Alcazaba is a large 11th-century fortification in Antequera, featuring impressive Moorish architecture, gardens, and panoramic views of the city. Built in the 14th century to defend against Christian invaders, it boasts sturdy defensive towers and a bell tower added in 1582. Visitors can enjoy an audio tour with re-enactments, explore archers' slits and ramparts, and admire the surrounding landscape from its viewpoint.
A must-see in Antequera. The place is very well maintained, and the views from the top are breathtaking. You get to see the entire town with its so many historical sites and the surrounding mountains. Make sure you wear some comfortable shoes as you will have to take the stairs to the top. One last thing to mention is that you can drive all the way to Alcazaba, but there is limited parking nearby.

Great place to check out. It took about 3 hours to look at the whole place. This place was a Roman fort, to a Muslim fort to a Christian fort. You can open a web page that gives an audio tour. Get ready for a leg workout because there are a lot of stairs. However, it's worth it. You get to look at how people of that time got to live. Sort of. Quite a bit of it have fallen apart or been destroyed. Not by any battle but maybe someone stealing to build homes or something like it. Either way, the views are unbeatable. I was also surprised how many churches there were. It's like ever ten houses got a church. Over by the church is a roman bath house that is in ruins. You can't get down there anymore, but you can get a good view by the restaurant. If you follow the path to the left under the church, you run into people's houses that are set in a very cool way. I always like to see little places like this.
Chuck P — Google review
We liked the setting of the Alcazaba than the palace itself, beautiful views across the city and the countryside, the Alcazaba itself is easy to navigate and explore. The audio guide is free to use on phone but it was a bit too slow for us, the information leaflet given with the ticket was quite helpful to get short snippets of insights. Entrance fee €5 only for the Alcazaba, there are combination tickets available with the church next door. Overall a good visit, easy to get to from the town centre, stunning views all around and I’d certainly recommend it anyone visiting Antequera.
Thomas G — Google review
A nice place, full of history, with wonderful views. The courtyard is not well maintained. Very thick walls, interesting history presented in the audio guide, but inside there are only empty spaces, there is not much to see.
Adriana C — Google review
Visiting the Alcazaba de Antequera was an incredible experience and one of the highlights of our trip! 🏰 Walking through the ancient gates, we were immediately transported back in time. The fortress is beautifully preserved, with impressive stone walls and towers that speak to its fascinating history. The views from the top are absolutely breathtaking, overlooking Antequera’s charming streets, the surrounding countryside, and even the distant mountains 😍. It’s the perfect place for stunning photos and to take in the scale of this historic city. We purchased the combined ticket with the Real Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor, which made visiting both sites seamless and great value. The Alcazaba is well signposted, and the audio guide added depth to our visit, sharing stories of battles, rulers, and daily life within the fortress. A must-visit landmark for anyone exploring Antequera — full of history, beauty, and unforgettable views. 🌟
G J — Google review
It is definitely worth to see the castle and climb the towers. Views from there are amazing. Not much information is provided, but tourists get a little map with an entrance ticket which is 5 euro per adult. There's a possibility to also see the collegiate but I skipped it. There's a small parking near the entrance if you are brave enough to drive the steep narrow streets.

The superbly well-preserved Alcazaba of Antequera is an impressive medieval fortress overlooking the city of Antequera in the province of Málaga. It was built in the 14th century by the Moors on the site of an earlier Roman fortification. In 1410, it was captured by the Christians, after which the fortifications were partially rebuilt. From here, there is a panoramic view of the city of Antequera and the famous Peña de los Enamorados (“Lovers’ Rock”).

The Archaeological Dolmens of Antequera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2016, is a significant ancient megalithic complex consisting of three cultural monuments and two natural landmarks. The site includes the Dolmen of Menga, facing the Pena de los Enamorados; the Tholos de El Romeral, overlooking the karstic landscape of El Torcal; and the Dolmen de Viera, uniquely positioned to face the sun.
Amazing constructions from 5000+ years ago. Amazing the size of the rock slabs they used. The museum exhibit is quite well done as well. And totally free, no admission fee.
Rodd G — Google review
This is an extremely well constructed exhibition centre and everything is very high quality. Sadly there is little detail about the sites. What text there is is difficult to read because of the lighting which is designed to look artistic, rather than to be easily read. The site is fantastic but a small investment in the practicalities would make it even better.
Jeff B — Google review
This is an amazing place, really worth a visit. A wonderful museum. Ask at reception to view the video, which will explain the process of the building - an incredible feat of engineering! I actually found it very moving - to imagine our ancestors, who really weren't so very different from us.
Wendy M — Google review
If you are an Archeology Buff, this is a must see. We stumbled across it. Free access and does not take much time to visit the three locations. Wish they would open up more in the tombs, but the museum is still interesting and summarizes the history.
Scott T — Google review
A bit disregarded but together with the Tholos a very important historical site; Dolmen of Menga is still as it was a long long time ago! to be visited! no tickets for EU citizens; Unesco site.
Luana — Google review
Not to be missed. And the information centre is magnificent also. Free but tickets issued, presumably to control numbers.

Interesting place, clean and resourceful . The tombs or Barrows are nice with a lovely a lovely view especially the main one which faces the mountain

An extraordinary place, it is important to watch the video before going to the Dolmen to understand the construction process and its meaning. The Visitor Center area is newly built and still lacks exhibition areas. The staff is very attentive and makes the visit very pleasant.

Real Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor is a historic collegiate church situated in Antequera, Spain. It was established by Bishop Diego Ramirez de Villaescusa in the early 16th century and features a blend of Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles.
Inaugurated in 1550, this church is the first example of Andalusian Renaissance architecture with Gothic influences. It played a significant role in the Catholic Monarchs’ efforts to Christianize Antequera. The coffered Mudejar-style wooden ceiling and Florentine-style windows are some of its most distinctive features.
Seokjin H — Google review
The pictures im posting show it in-its entirety !! Not that 4€ is alot but this place is empty and void of anything meaningful to see.. yes it is historic and has a story you can read online. But the church has been emptied other than 2 or 3 items . Its a hard pass in my opinion LAST IF YOU DO WANT TO GO GET TICKET FOR ALL 3 sites 8€ total Church, Museum and Alcazaba they dont tell you that Iglesia de San Juan de Dios (free) and more presence

Visiting the Real Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor was like stepping back in time. The breathtaking façade immediately impressed us, and stepping inside to see the towering columns and intricate arches was unforgettable 😍. The whole place has a serene, majestic atmosphere that speaks to centuries of history. We bought the combined ticket with the Alcazaba, which was great value and made it easy to explore both iconic sites in one visit. Inside the church, we discovered fascinating artifacts and historical displays, from ancient stone carvings to religious art that tells the story of Antequera’s rich past. One of the highlights was learning about the Tarasca, a symbolic figure of faith and tradition 🐉. This is a must-see landmark when visiting Antequera — a perfect mix of culture, history, and stunning architecture.

Real Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor This is one of the earliest examples of Renaissance architecture in Andalusia. There isn’t much to see inside, but it is a very neat and atmospheric place with an incredibly beautiful carved ceiling and a statue of the Virgin Mary standing on a seven-headed serpent. In front of the church, there is a monument to the famous local writer Pedro Espinosa. A bit of history: • The collegiate church was founded on the initiative of Bishop Diego Ramírez de Villaescusa. • In 1503, Pope Julius II issued a bull allowing the old church (Santa María de la Esperanza) to be transformed into a collegiate church. • Construction of the current building took place from 1514 to 1550. • Pedro del Campo is considered the original architect. • The church has BIC status (“Bien de Interés Cultural”), meaning it is a cultural heritage site.
Mykola S — Google review
We bought the combined ticket for 6 euro - we visited both Acazaba and Colegiata. Church looks great from outside. Inside you can spend 5 - 10 minutes only. The most interesting thing for us was the sculpture of the half lady and half serpent. Other than that, the whole area is worth visiting -Alcazaba, Colegiata, and Arco de los Gigantes. All these places are next to each other.
Kamila Ś — Google review
Interesting church within the old town of Antequera on a strategic hilltop overlooking the entire valley. Free Parking at entrance to Arcos or along street. Can get a combined ticket with Alcazaba next door. Or come on non festival Tuesday’s between 2:00 and 5:30 for free entrance to both!!! Enter the hilltop plaza containing the sites through the large Arcos and continue to the end of the plaza with church on the right. It really is a good visit. Makes a great Antequera day visit with the Dolmens and The El Torcal rock formations! If you are heading back to Málaga, take the scenic route back on A7075 until it connects with A7!
G G — Google review
Didn’t go inside but the views from the outside are quite stunning.

Arco de los Gigantes is a significant arch with inscriptions related to Roman Anticaria and surrounding towns, as well as a dedication to King Philip II. It stands as an essential part of the historic area in Antequera, Andalucia. The arch's impressive thickness and Latin tablets lead to a plaza featuring the Alcazaba, Roman baths, and Real Colegiata Santa Maria. Visitors are encouraged to spend time exploring this stunning site while enjoying the beautiful city views.
A must see and entry to the alcazaba and church! Stunning.
Cody G — Google review
It is the entrance to the ancient Arab medina and the route to the souk. The outer part of the arch features the coat of arms of Fernando I, depicting a lion, a castle, and stargazer lilies.

Large Gate entrance with Latin tablets leading to plaza with Alcazaba, Roman baths, and Real Colegiata Santa Maria. A must see as part of your visit to Antequera!
G G — Google review
Access to the Alcazaba, the Colegiata de Santa Maria la Mayor, and great views Puff your way up the steps of the Cuesta Barbacana hill and at the top is this gateway. Built in the mid-sixteenth century, it gives an interesting view of the Colegiata de Santa Maria la Mayor, now unconsecrated as a church and used for concerts. The precinct - Plaza de los Escribanos - on the other side of the arch shows some very attractive little houses, and a good restaurant. Escribanos - scribes - as this is where the clerics lived and wrote. Once through the arch you can visit either the church or the Alcazaba, or both! Don't forget to show proof of age for the 65+ reduction in the normal entry fee of €3 for each. .

Art Museums
Nestled within the stunning 18th-century Palacio de Nájera, the Museo de la Ciudad de Antequera (MVCA) is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Antequera, Malaga. This enchanting museum offers an immersive experience into the region's rich history and artistic heritage. Visitors can marvel at a wide array of exhibits that span archaeology, contemporary art, and ethnology, each telling its own unique story about Spain's cultural evolution.
The museum, located in El Palacio Nájera, opened in 1972 and houses a wide range of exhibits from prehistoric artifacts to modern history. It showcases exhibits related to Antequera's prehistoric megalithic sites, such as the Dolmens, along with displays on local art, folklore, and significant historical events.
Seokjin H — Google review
It was a great museum. It is free all you need to do when entering the museum is to advise what country you have come from. The exhibits are really good and spans a huge time period. The exhibitions were also fascinating. Well worth popping into if you have a spare hour or so.
Julie E — Google review
This was a great provincial museum with the main strength in archeology. The Neolithic, Greek and Roman parts were the best, with the Efebo of Antequera gorgeous. There was an Idol of Fertility and a few Roman busts and animal figurines. The jewelry collection was also outstanding, with emeral being especially prominently present. The building itself is interesting, with the inner courtyard and a great staircase. The paintings are of the local interest. This museum was free at the time of our visit.
Anna S — Google review
An interesting collection of prehistoric and Roman artefacts collected from the region. Not usually keen on religious art and objects, but the Delgado Collection paintings upstairs really are a step up in class and the subdued lighting really shows off their quality. No photography allowed anywhere inside.
Chris — Google review
Beautiful building in a charming square in the heart of Antequera. Free entry (like so many in Spain) Laid out across four floors the bottom floor contains the pre historic and Roman exhibits. The second is largely Religious paintings/sculptures and gold articles. The third and fourth are devoted to Spanish painters from the 19th and 20th century. They have an exceptional view of a Roman Tomb and a beautiful Roman bronze on the ground floor and other very interesting Pre historic/Bronze and Iron Age finds. Not enough information in English so had to resort to Google translate. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

We came across Parroquia San Sebastián while exploring the area and were so glad we stopped by. ⛪ The church is beautifully designed, with a peaceful atmosphere that feels welcoming the moment you step inside. The architecture and details are stunning, and even just pausing outside to admire it is worth the visit. A calm, serene spot that offers a glimpse into the local history and culture — perfect for a quiet moment of reflection during a busy day. 🌟

Bernadettesea M — Google review
Church that you can see from everywhere . . . Whenever you are admiring a panoramic view of Antequera, you can almost certainly see the tower of the San Sebastian church. It is the most ornate - and I think the tallest - of the towers of the 28, yes 28, churches in the town. You are bound to have a photo of it somewhere among your pictures! At the very top sits the gilded weathervane called the Big Fat Angel - El Angelote. San Sebastian church is slap bang in the middle of Antequera, in the Plaza San Sebastian where we find Kilometre Zero, from where they measure all the distances to other towns. This Plaza, where the main street Calle Infante Don Fernando ends, is important in the life of the town in Holy Week as all the processions (except the one on Tuesday) go through here. The big procession for the San Sebastian Church is the Wednesday one, with the Cofradia del Mayor Dolor. The procession starts at 21.30 at night, and finishes at about 2 the next morning. Another interesting thing on this Wednesday is at lunchtime - 13.30 - when soldiers from the Spanish Foreign Legion carry the statues into the church, ready for that evening's procession. Well worth going to see that if you are in Antequera in Holy Week.

The Museo Conventual de las Descalzas showcases the artistic heritage of the Discalced Carmelite Convent, founded in 1632. The museum is home to a diverse collection distributed across four rooms and the church.
Finding and viewing this small museum was a weird and wonderful experience. You may see the small, but exquisite, collection of religious art, escorted room by room, every half hour during opening hours. Buy mantecadas next door through a wooden contraption built into the door.

(Translated by Google) Another example of the inexhaustible historical heritage of Antequera. Even after having lived in the city for seven years, I continue to find new corners and angles that awaken you with monumentability (excuse the word) and beauty. In this case, the baroque-style convent-museum-school skillfully plays with a walled front, following the spirit of the neighboring Alcazaba, with the detailed splendor of the interior. It can be accessed by going up from Carretera del Dolmen or better yet by walking along Alameda and Calle Estepa with a mandatory stop at the Church of San Sebastián. After visiting the museum, the Alcazaba and the Collegiate Church are just 10 minutes away, although it is difficult, but the effort is rewarded. There are numerous restaurants in the adjacent plazas of Viagas and San Sebastián. If you can, and are not afraid of crowds, a recommended visit on Holy Monday or Corpus Christi (Original) Otro ejemplo del inagotable patrimonio histórico de Antequera. The Dolmen de Menga is a significant megalithic tomb located in Antequera, Spain. It is part of the Antequera Dolmens Site, which consists of three cultural assets and two natural assets. Dating back to the Neolithic period, this ancient burial site was constructed with large stone blocks to form chambers and spaces used for ritual and funerary purposes.
One of the largest prehistoric dolmens, built around 3,700 BCE during the late Neolithic period. It consists of 32 massive stone slabs, with the largest capstone estimated to weigh over 180 tons. The method of transporting such massive stones with the technology available at the time remains a mystery. Unlike most dolmens, which face the rising sun, it is oriented toward Peña de los Enamorados, a distinctive rock formation. This alignment is believed to have religious and astronomical significance for prehistoric communities. Human remains were discovered inside, indicating its use as a collective burial site.
Seokjin H — Google review
There are two man made cave megaliths on this site. Then, a third just a short walk up the hill in another location. After that, you should go up the hill to the castle (alcazaba). It's a little under 20 bucks and self paced with an audio tour off of a website to listen to when you get to certain stations. It takes less than a day to do it all. It was very good as a day trip. This site, they are not sure who built them. Aliens and giants are theorized by conspiracy theorists, which i find wonderfully hilarious. They do know the romans wrote about it as though they found it. The Romans may also be the builders of the well in the Menga cave. They are also not fully excavated. The first one you run across (don't remember its name) has golfball holes drilled into the rocks. They believed it was to commemorate a funeral. The bodies were brought into the cave first, then carried out to be buried or burned. The Menga cave does not have these markings. Both face the mountain that looks like a face looking towards the sky. It had significance for each group that lived there. From the pre-Romans, to the Romans, to the Muslims, to the Christians, and even to today's locals. We couldn't figure out what face mountain was called. Technically, there are two face mountains, but who's counting. You can also drive to the right of face mountain, and there is an abandoned town, but we could figure out how to get to it. The roads that seem to go to it are through a farmers' olive orchard, and that's just rude to drive through. So we took some photos from the road. For the navy folk, this is about 2.5 hours from Rota.

If you like local history, this is worth a rest stop. It's free, you do have to go in to the museum to get your free tickets and tell where your from, but that gives you access to nice toilets to. We didn't spend much time here, but it was a nice rest and a great walk around the museum and out to the toms.

This is a fabulous UNESCO world heritage site that for me was a must see site in Antequera. Going back almost 6000 years Dolmens de Menga was the most impressive. The modern museum was good and you have to go there first to get your free ticket to visit both Dolmen on this site. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting Antequera.

Great stop if you are passing through or are into prehistoric times. It’s all free and the views and staff are great. We were there the day after winter solstice so the atmosphere was amazing and symmetry magical visually. They also had a concert happening.

I sort of feel I ought to give four stars 🌟 , it is a UNESCO World Heritage, but it is frankly not particularly impressive. We stopped by on our way to Rute, it was a nice break, but otherwise nothing much to write home about. Perhaps a keen student of neolithic / prehistoric Spain 🇪🇸 will see it differently, but as a plain tourist .... Entrance is free of charge, but don't forget to go to the museum first to pick up your free tickets.

Located next to the Convento de Santa Eufemia, Iglesia Parroquial de Santiago Apóstol was originally a hermitage in the 16th century and later transformed into an 18th-century church. The exterior showcases Mudejar elements, adding to its simple yet attractive design. This church is considered one of the most original examples of Antequera Baroque and was constructed by builder Cristobal Garcia in the 17th century.
We spent two nights in this place as Pilgrims, because inside there is a small albergue for people walking (or riding) the Camino Mozarabe from Málaga. Thanks a lot for your hospitality!

Mirador de las Almenillas offers unparalleled views of Antequera, making it a must-visit spot. Situated at the entrance to some of the city's most popular historic sites, this viewpoint provides a stunning vantage point to admire the impressive churches and witness how Antequera has evolved over the centuries. It is also the first free-access viewpoint in the area.
Almenillas refers to small towers or battlements on the walls where people could take shelter during battle. This viewpoint is one of the best places to enjoy views of the city of Antequera and its surrounding landscapes. Located near the Alcazaba, it provides a great opportunity to experience a medieval atmosphere.

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Antequera, the Tholos de El Romeral stands as a remarkable testament to Neolithic architecture, dating back to around 1800 BCE. This ancient structure features a corridor leading to a chambered tomb, all elegantly covered by an impressive mound. The site is part of a larger ensemble that includes other monumental dolmens like Menga and Viera, showcasing the architectural prowess of early civilizations.
A megalithic burial structure built around 2,500 BCE during the early Bronze Age. It was constructed using the tholos technique, forming a circular dome with stacked stones. The interior consists of a large round burial chamber and a smaller annex chamber. The entrance is aligned with El Torcal de Antequera, a famous karst landscape. Used as a collective burial site, it contained multiple human remains and ritual artifacts. If you walk, you can save time by crossing the railway tracks through Plaza Industrial Azucarera.

This megalithic site was built by Neolithic settlers for ritual and funerary purposes. The dolmen, along with other ancient burial mounds in Antequera, offers panoramic views over the town and is surrounded by traditional Spanish white-washed houses.

(Translated by Google) We find ourselves in front of a magnificent temple from the 17th century and in the Baroque style, whose works began in 1628. It is dedicated to the Virgin of Remedies. The interior of the building stands out especially, which is profusely decorated, mainly its High Altar. The decoration of its vaulted ceilings is also very notable. Another point that draws attention is that the front door to the street gives access to an interior patio with a portico with columns, in a typically Andalusian style. In this beautiful patio is the entrance to the church. (Translated by Google) It stands out from everything else I saw in Antequera because of its originality. The chapel is Baroque-Mudejar in style, with brick and limestone as the predominant building materials. An image of the Virgin of Help was placed on the upper part for popular veneration. Now, what I don't understand is how this chapel can function as a motorcycle parking lot and a café terrace. Can anyone explain this to me? Behind the chapel there is an excellent viewpoint of the walls and part of the city. Published on 27 Apr 25. (Original) Destaca-se de tudo o que vi em Antequera pela sua originalidade. The peace and quiet that is disturbed only by the murmur of tourists, decorated walls, ceilings and glass surfaces and altars decorated to the smallest detail, all this gives the monastery that something for which thousands of tourists come to it. Restaurante Plaza de Toros is part of a joint promotion by the Tourism and Heritage Departments of the Antequera City Council. The restaurant offers a 10% discount to cardholders on its services, along with other collaborating establishments. Located in the town north of Malaga city, it is one of many excellent dining options available in the area. Visitors can explore nearby attractions such as Plaza de San Sebastian and historic churches while enjoying unique local dishes and products.
One of the best restaurants I've been in a long time. I had delicious duck wrapped in a crunchy pancake and codfish with sweet onions. Simply delicious! The service was really good too, very polite and friendly staff.
Pali G — Google review
Seen the advertising board outside while passing. Menu del dia for €15. We were the only people there. We weren't really sure what dishes were coming to the table but made sure we got different ones and shared each dish. The starters, a cold type soup was really good and an egg with bread crumbs was ok. The mains, a meat wrap deep fried was nice and I wanted to try this dish for a while and an egg in a ratatouille style soup was ok but not very filling for a main. The desserts, were two chocolate type dishes which of course you can't go wrong with chocolate. The glass of red wine was lovely but the bread was stale. Overall a lovely experience to eat in the bullring and view all the pictures on the walls.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers picturesque landscapes with its unique and otherworldly limestone rocks, formed from the deposit of marine animal skeletons and shells. The area is renowned for its exceptional flora and fauna, making it a must-visit for nature enthusiasts.

Beautiful Hiking Area! We have been doing this Tour at the beginning of the year in January. The Weather was perfectly fine. You should bring good shoes as some parts might be a bit slippery. But overall the paths are quite good to walk at. We did bring our Dogs but they must be on the leash all time as you might spot Capricorns just around you in between the rocks. The Landscape is just breathtaking and beautiful. Definitely a Must-See place here in Andalusia!

Absolutely fantastic area. Other worldly and incredibly scenic. You can drive right out to the visitor center where there is ample parking. The road there is surprisingly well serviced and wide enough for vehicles to pass each other. My six-year-old son had an absolute blast, exploring and climbing.

Lovely prehistoric place, you can park on the Visitors Center open until 17:00 hrs, have a drink and a bite, use the toilet and begin your journey. There's 3 routes you can take, green, orange and yellow. Orange is a direct line go and come back and the other 2 are circular. We took the medium one and walked around 2.5 hrs taking many pauzes it was 32° when we were there at 18 hrs but luckily we had a wonderful wind to cool us off, we could enjoy the view, admiring the place where you can find fossils, wild goats and many birds. Amazing to see, a must to do when you visit Malaga. We will come back again and will take another route.

Very spectacular park. The yellow route is moderate and suitable for most people. We also did orange rout, that was a bit harder: the carved road was smaller and sometimes a bit harder to find. Advise: use "alltrails" as app to geolocate the route. The visitor cetre has a restaurant with enough choices. Come early: before 10AM so you can park at the main parking area. When full many people park down the road, but you will get fined. Police is checking on regular base.

. The Puerta de Granada - the way to Granada. This archway dating back to the mid 18th-century, although having its upper section renovated and changed subsequently, marks the place where the road to Granada originally entered - or left - the town of Antequera. Slightly out of the way, but in a pleasant position near a little park overlooking the river, you can reach it on the way back from visiting the Dolmenes. Leaving the Dolmenes site going back towards the town, you come almost immediately to a crossroads with a triangular flowerbed in the centre. the road straight ahead leads up hill, you take the street to the left and follow it round. You soon come, on your left, to a wide esplanade viewpoint (although the view over the little river is nothing much to write home about), with those "playground Fitness machines for grown-ups" that the Spanish are so fond of. Just a few yards further on is the Arch. On its first side it has a statue of Our lady of Rocio, on the other the Town coat of arms. On top is a wrought-iron structure which seemed at first sight be a weathervane, but that I then realised was an ornate cross. Unlike the Puerta de Estepa, it has only one arch. You can walk but not drive through it - there is a brick pavement with a step up to prevent crazy drivers trying to do just that!. .

. A pleasant place to sit and ponder. Just round the corner from the Parador and the Bullring is this quiet little garden decorated by a large statue of Jesus. In January the orange trees were groaning with fruit; in March/April the perfume of the orange blossom will fill the air. Don't be tempted to try and eat the oranges, however. All through Andalucia the oranges on trees in public spaces are bitter. Presumably to stop precocious picking, leaving them to look pretty on the trees. There are a large number of benches to choose from, so as in the bullring you can usually choose Sol or Sombra: Sun or Shade. .

(Translated by Google) Located in Antequera, the Agustinas convent church or Convent of the Mother of God of Monteagudo, was built between 1747 and 1761 and today arouses great interest among art scholars. The exterior vessel of the building surprises with the enormous height of its brick walls, highlighting two autonomous volumes: the domed tower of the main chapel, an elegant work of the Baroque-Mudejar style of Antequera, and the beautiful bell tower. The interior of the Convent of the Mother of God of Monteagudo is one of the most beautiful creations of the Antequera Baroque from an architectural point of view. Starting from a very simple convent church model, thanks to a skilful play of straight lines, curves and concave surfaces, one of the most original spatial ensembles in all of Spanish architecture is achieved. The interior cannot be visited. El interior del Convento de la Madre de Dios de Monteagudo es una de las creaciones más bellas del Barroco antequerano desde el punto de vista arquitectónico. (Translated by Google) The Convent of Madre de Dios de Monteagudo de Antequera owes its origin to the establishment of the community of Augustinian nuns in the city in 1520, although the current building is, in very significant parts, from the mid-18th century, a time when the fire of the previous property forced its reconstruction. It is a valuable example of its typology, with evident achievements, recognized by artistic historiography, in the spatial solution of the church, in the treatment of the tower and the façade and in its interior decoration, which, on the other hand, houses interesting pictorial, sculptural and altarpiece works. The place is really nice and well taken care of. I went there with my family and it was definitely worth the visit. The guide was really nice, it was clear she really knew about the wolfs ecology and habitat, and really loved and cared for the animals. I recommend this for families and groups

Finally went this year as closer to where we stayed. So good to see them up close. Guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Spanish and English spoken. Booked our reservation online for the 1pm slot. Guide feeds at each enclosure so they do come to the fence. Even if it takes a few minutes.

Waauw, what a great experience. We took the English tour and had a great guide. She knew so much about the wolf's, their history and what is best for them. I love how they rescue and take care of them. I will certainly come back with my other daughter. Please keep up the good work.

We absolutely recommend visiting this place. Our tour guide was super nice and explained interesting information about various kinds of wolves. Tour could be conducted in English or Spanish. Tour costed 15eur per person and it took around 1,5 - 2hod. Wolves were really interesting and looked to be happy in this place. When visiting wolves our tour guide offered to wolves some snacks and we could see almost all wolves come to us and we were able to took photos and videos.

Such a beautiful place to spend the day. The visitors center has an informative video and great little souvenirs at a restaurant price. The restaurant on site is also very good and so much cheaper than the things that you would find in the city. The quality was also very good and the service was quick and friendly. We left no crumbs. We really liked the vegetarian burger and the normal burger as well. And the salad was quite good as well. We were pleasantly surprised.

El Torcal is an absolutely breathtaking place that you simply must visit! The rock formations are unique and unforgettable. There are two hiking trails to choose from – a shorter and a longer one – both offering incredible views. I highly recommend wearing sturdy ankle-high shoes, as the ground is uneven in some places. For those who prefer not to go hiking, the Visitor Centre is a great option, where the friendly staff are always happy to explain everything. Right next to it, there’s a restaurant with fair prices and free parking, which is very convenient. The best part is that the entire attraction is free of charge – a fantastic bonus! The only small downside is the lack of WiFi, which would be useful for anyone hoping to relax with a drink and work on a laptop outdoors while enjoying the stunning scenery. Hopefully this will be added in the future. Overall, El Torcal is a true gem and I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone visiting the area! 🌟
Grzegorz D — Google review
El Torcal has the most amazing rock formation, a lot of the rocks are balanced on top of one another. Incredible views from the look out platform. You drive up quite high, then park and walk to see the amazing rocks and the view. You can have something hot to drink and something to eat. Take warm jackets for the viewing, it is really cold up there. There are also goats on the rocks, you might be lucky to see one or two.
Delia L — Google review
The information in the visitor's center is only in spanish. Too bad, since the history of this place is worth to read about before hiking or taking a short walk to the nearest view point. There are also free clean toilets inside, which is considered a huge advantage.
Ell L — Google review
We were there at 10:00 and there were not many people there, so we got the trail pretty much to our selves. We walked the short, green trail and it took 40 min, and we stopped plenty of times for some photos. The path is very rough and a bit tricky to walk on. When we came back the parking lot had filled up. The food was OK, but nothing special. The almond soup was quite bland. The tomato soup, salmorejo, was topped with tuna. There are clean bathrooms.
Angelica E — Google review

Must do walk. Great location and food is good at visitor center.

Landscape is amazing we did the 2 hours walk which was the green and yellow trail. It is quite a physical trek and not for the faint hearted. We where very lucky to get a beautiful hot day but would not recommend in bad weather. Hiking boots recommended although good trainers can also serve the purpose. The rock formation and flora is beautiful. I visited in autumn and the range of colours was amazing. The views are breathtaking and at the visitors centre you can find a restaurant and toilets. The drive up is through winding roads but it is well signposted and the road is in a good state also at the visitors centre there is a large car park.

The Puerta de Estepa, also known as Bullon Gate, is a stunning historical landmark located in Antequera. Originally constructed in the mid-18th century during the reign of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, this gate has an intriguing past. Although it was demolished in 1931 to accommodate growing traffic, it was faithfully reconstructed in 1998, preserving its original design.
Busy spot and a lovely statue in the plaza of the lovers flinging themselves from Lovers Rock.

Set in lovely town of Aguilera as original entry to town. Alongside a bull ring

This gateway leads to the main route into town where the bars and restaurants are frequent, it's next to the bull ring which is free to enter and has a nice cafe.
Rian G — Google review
Only a reconstruction, but very attractive. It's not the real thing, I'm afraid! The original, built in 1749 with a central arch for carriages and two lateral arches for pedestrians, was knocked down in 1931 because cars couldn't get through it easily. Good gracious, what a reason! However in 1998 they had the clever idea of reconstructing it according to the original design, and using stone from the Torcal area just outside the town. They solved the problem of the narrow arch very easily by putting it in a roundabout so everyone drives around it instead of through it. Now why didn't they think of that in 1931? Puerta de Estepa - the Estepa Door - as it was and is the main entrance to Antequera coming from the town of Estepa. Estepa is famous at Christmas time for its polvorones and mantecados, by the way, delicious calorie-filled sweetmeats traditional at that time of year. The best time to take a photo is at night when it is illuminated, or fairly early in the morning, on your way to have chocolate and churros perhaps in the bar A La Fuerza just 100 metres away, when the sun strikes it and illuminates the beautiful golden stone. .

(Translated by Google) Monument raised before the walls of the Torre del Asalto, and inaugurated on September 24, 2010, the date on which the VI Centenary of the Incorporation of Antequera to the Crown of Castile was commemorated. On that date, but six centuries ago, the Nasrids who remained entrenched in the Alcazaba capitulated and abandoned the town to march to Granada and found the Antequeruela neighborhood there. The sculptural group represents a Muslim family made up of a married couple and two children, one of them a baby in the mother's arms. In a somewhat more advanced plane, the male figure walks, wearing a turban and carrying in his right hand the key to the abandoned house, who brings his left hand close to his forehead in an attitude of seeing the path he must take in the direction of the Peña de los Enamorados and towards Granada. The wife appears at his side, looking sad and trying to cover her children with her body. The Museo del Aceite - Dcoop is a notable establishment showcasing the olive oil production, with an emphasis on cooperatives. Dcoop, being one of Spain's largest cooperatives, holds a prominent position among the numerous cooperatives devoted to olive oil production.
If you like olive oil and have an interest in the history of its production, then this place is well worth adding to your day out in Antequera. This is a small museum (in fact exhibit would be a better description) but it does have some interesting reconstructions of various local pressing methods depicting the olive oil producing heritage of the Hojiblanca region. You can complete your visit in under 30 minutes easily, but are free to take your own time. I leaned some things that I didn’t know, so for me it was time well spent. But the reason I will be coming back from time to time and telling my friends about this place was the ability to buy quality oils & vinegars at a fraction of the price in supermarkets, I left with sever bottles large and small!!

Very interesting place, great place to visit.

It is a nice maintained and small setup. With a rustic (somewhat overpriced) restaurant besides it. Great place to stop by, but nothing like the bigger attractions in this part of Andalucía.

(Translated by Google) Magnificent establishment known to me for years but in continuous improvement and adaptation to the times without losing its essence and continually increasing quality. We ate a porra that I thought was the best I have ever eaten. The exceptional ajoblanco, an excellent anchovy toast and an exquisite vegetable scramble with shrimp to share. The restaurant is located in a recreation of a classic Andalusian farmhouse from past centuries, very well decorated. Next to it there is a recreation of a beautiful hermitage with antiques. The attention of the owner and exceptional waiters, speed in the kitchen and neat cleaning everywhere.

(Translated by Google) The San Benito Museum of Uses and Customs is located in the grounds of the Caserío de San Benito restaurant, a new building but built with materials from the 16th and 17th centuries, mostly from noble buildings in the Antequera region that have been have been disappearing: palaces, stately homes, churches and monasteries. This is a curious museum, which displays a collection of very varied objects from different periods: toys, sewing machines, radios, ceramic pieces, coffee grinders, photographic cameras, etc., all collected over thirty years by its owner, Antonio Galindo. The traditional character of the San Benito Museum of Uses and Customs makes it an endearing place, where visitors look back to the past and recognize everyday items that have been part of their life at some point, triggering multiple memories and evocations.

(Translated by Google) In the city of Antequera, the Triumph of the Immaculate Conception is the work of the sculptor Antonio del Castillo. Promoted by the Community of Capuchin Fathers with a contract date of October 4, 1697, its purpose was to occupy the existing esplanade in front of their convent. This artist undertook to make only the pedestal, since the sculpture of the Immaculate Conception that was to top it had already been in the convent since 1681, the year in which it was brought by Father Francisco de Luque and placed over the main door. The Triumph of the Immaculate Conception, an important piece of Andalusian Baroque, presents the following scheme: superimposed rectangular parallelepipeds with narrowing between both and, above them, a column with a Corinthian capital, a pedestal with curved profiles and finally the sculpture. The image of the Immaculate Conception, in alabaster, is an anonymous work but of great strength and movement: its mantle in the wind acquires its full meaning when it is placed outdoors and at a high altitude.

Park
Parque de la Negrita is a top-notch playground in the city, perfect for families traveling with kids who just want to play. The park offers a well-designed children's play area with plenty of shade from the surrounding trees. Additionally, there's a convenient cafe nearby where parents can relax while keeping an eye on their little ones. It's a wonderful spot for kids of all ages to have fun and enjoy themselves, making it a must-visit destination for families looking for some outdoor entertainment.
Great place for a coffee and a chat, and a play ground for children.

Well situated & beautifully maintained. We came on a breezy day during their Féria weekend. There are enough trees surrounding for parents to sit in shade and enough varying activities for children to find something to do. Some of the Astro turf will need to be replaced in parts of the park at some point in the near future but a wonderful place for children and families even in the hot of summer. We’ve seen children use cardboard to go faster on metal slides in Spain- I would recommend for metal slides in summer as well (just so they don’t get burned on super hot days).

Postigo La Estrella is a charming and historic passageway in Antequera that serves as a gateway through the ancient city walls, leading into the former Muslim Madina. This picturesque alley not only offers a glimpse into the past but also holds significant historical importance, as it was here that Christian troops entered to reclaim Antequera after enduring six months of siege.
