Conference center
Located in a former steel mill, Magna Science Adventure Centre is a captivating science and technology museum that offers interactive exhibits and an outdoor play area. It pays homage to Sheffield's steel heritage with four pavilions dedicated to the elements of earth, water, air, and fire. The highlight is 'The Big Melt,' a bone-shaking show that vividly recreates the steelmaking process.
Could have been better if we hadn't hit it the same time as coachloads of primary school kids, but we still managed to see and interact with most of the exhibits. Definitely a great place for kids of that age, with an amazing play park just across the road as well
Ghislaine H — Google review
It was the 1st time we've been to Magna this weekend and we loved it. Lots to do and see, the big melt was amazing and got my 6 year old attention which is not easy to do. My sons favourite floor was the water floor and he was drenched when we came out of it. Luckily we had a towel to hand but it was good fun. We had a mix of a picnic and food from the cafe (the cafe food is expensive). The playground adventure had lots for all ages and my partner even went on the zip line too. The water park looks lovely but my boy said it was too cold to go in.
Laurie P — Google review
An absolutely epic place for kids and adults alike! So interactive and interesting it kept us all entertained for hours. I loved the set up representing the 4 elements earth, wind, fire and water plus I found the big melt interesting (a little jumpy for my 2 year old). The outside park was huge and if we lived closer we would be there all the time! They had standard play area equipment but standpits I couldn't get my 2 year old out of and a water park I couldn't get my 5 year old out of! 100% recommend and we will be going back!

Went to the Magna science centre today and it was great. The exhibition was interesting, interactive and quite inspiring. The place is massive but it felt full of interesting things to do and look at. I felt like I was on red dwarf at one point haha. My niece enjoyed it and got involved. The cafe is ok, there are plenty of toilets and there is also a good park outside. The bonus is that you pay once and get an annual pass free, fantastic!
Ruthanna — Google review
We got there very early, highly recommend getting there for opening time. It is quite dark so be aware, it can be quite noisy so if you have a sensor problem with sound take ear protection. There are plenty of interactive things to do, you will be very entertained, great for all age groups, we went with a toddler and he love all of it ( not the noisy parts of course) They have toilets on every floor and seats for you to rest on every floor and entrance. They have a cafe with plenty of seating they also have a specific packed lunch area too with is different and nice. The food prices where good not expensive at all. They have a large outside play area with a dry part and wet part. Be prepared for your kids to gey wet. Bout indoor and out. Best are is the year round ticket
Janine R — Google review
Absolutely fantastic day out! Can't wait to visit again. The park and splash pad outside is a day in itself. Our 18 month old loved running round and all the interactive things. Cafe was nice, staff friendly. Only thing I'd say to improve was the baby changing facilities were a bit rough and would be nice to have some stations dotted round to refil water bottles. Otherwise really recommend Magna!
Lauren N — Google review
Went today with a 10 year old. He started off looking bored, but after 4 hours had to drag him out! Very good value for money. The exhibitions were great, but often too dark to see the words on the exhibits. Cafe was ok, long queues at busy times and slow service. The “Big Melt” was a little disappointing to start with but got better, although a lot of small children were taken out screaming - it’s very loud. We then were invited to tour the factory floor - probably just those with older kids- I loved it, but it went on a bit too long, just looking at rusty old machines. Be aware, it’s very cold, it’s a cavernous steel shed with no heating, it’s often rather dark and uneven floors, and the Water exhibit is, quite wet ! Outside the adventure playground is huge and suitable for a wide age group, very clean and well maintained
Anne S — Google review
Wow, absolutely amazing day! If I'd read other reviews before buying tickets I may not have gone but what a mistake that would have been. Went with a 9 and 10 year old and they enjoyed every minute. So many interactive things for them to do and so much to see. We could have stayed much longer, will definitely make use of the annual pass! The outdoor play area and water area is brilliant and a day out in itself. How anyone says they got round the museum in an hour is beyond me. I couldn't get the kids out! Was definitely not cold anywhere although im sure thats different in winter months but I'd happily wrap up to go back.

Clifton Park Museum, located in the heart of Rotherham, offers a fascinating exploration of the town's natural and cultural history within an 18th-century home. The museum features interactive exhibits such as a children's range kitchen and Nelson the Lion, a real lion guarding the entrance to a secret tunnelled tree. Visitors can also enjoy displays of retro toys and historical period clothing for children to dress up in.
An excellent museum with a wide range of exhibits showing the many aspects of Rotherham and surrounding districts. The museum also has an archive section with a vast database of entries. For a well earned break there is a fully equipped café and souvenir shop. Clean and tidy toilets are nearby. Well worth a visit!

A good day out looking at the gardens and museum. There's more to see than you might think. Friendly staff and excellent cakes in the café.

We had our wedding there and it was lovely. The staff where very helpful and friendly
Karl S — Google review
Really nice local museum specific to the Rotherham area. We met a very knowledgeable guide who pointed out specific objects and explained their history to the family. Nice cafe space with outdoor seating (and ice creams) on a hot day. Beautiful park with lots of things to see and do if you want a longer day out.
Catherine W — Google review
Its still fine but its missing the museam part, there's so much over the years that used to be there, that now isn't, there's also rooms upstairs about woman empowerment, that parts just stupid, its a museum.. they need to get a grip with those rooms and repurpose them.
Lynamator — Google review
We went yesterday and the museum was really clean but we was disappointed at the lack of old items like it was before. . Like the courtyard has gone with the penny farthing the kitchen has been opened up my kids loved going round the museum looking at that and the old nursery and the old plates crockery etc but sadly it has gone to other displays now which doesn't really interest the grandkids
Amanda W — Google review
Great Park and not busy during weekday. Playing equipment and huge sand area a bonus. The mini rides for kids within Clifton Park are also great with friendly staff (you purchase a top up card which is scanned for each ride so no messing with change). Food place provides bog standard yummies and ice cream van there too who could ask for more 😊 We'll worth a good day out.
Amanda T — Google review
Nice looking building in a great park, staff welcoming, actual rooms and interior a bit basic but interesting, but made up for by the various displays throughout, quite child orientated, though plenty to keep an adult entertained. 5 stars because of the cafe, my jacket potato was 10/10, delicious, give that girl a raise !! Coffee good and cakes looked fantastic but I was too full to indulge. Well done all.

The museum showcases an impressive array of vintage vehicles such as buses, trams, cars, and motorcycles alongside related artifacts. Visitors can delve into the intriguing history of public transportation in South Yorkshire while exploring the technical aspects of these vehicles. What an amazing place showing lots of history. All vehicles on display told a different story. Lots of memorabilia on display. Added bonus with a trip out to Conisborough Castle on a old double decker. Definitely a great afternoon out.

Open one Sunday a month so you have to plan your visit, but you can pay on the door and the ticket price includes a free bus journey. I brought my 2 year old and he loved seeing all the vehicles. Also 2 coffees and 2 pastries in the cafe was around £7
H — Google review
This museum is fantastic. All the displayed vehicles are in amazing condition. Loads to see. The staff are a credit to the museum. So friendly and knowledgeable. Our company held an even at the museum last week and it was so well run.

We hired an old bus from the SYTM for our wedding this weekend. They helped us out last minute after our original supplier pulled out and they were fantastic. The 2 chaps that came out with the bus were lovely. The bus was dressed for us which was a lovely touch also. All the guests were aboard and had a great time as well. Thank you so much SYTM.

Whatever your interest, there is something for you. Local history, bicycles, prams, motor bikes, milk floats, tram, train, carriages, trucks, buses, coaches, memorabilia. Well worth a visit, enjoy the exhibits and relax in the cafe.

Nice place to visit love to go at least once a year and see the bus my dad passed his pcv on

Really well run and a great day out. The staff are mostly volunteers and are really knowledgeable. The cafe is lovely and they offer a range of coffee, soft drinks and cakes.
Philip B — Google review
South Yorkshire Transport Museum is an absolute hidden gem! I've lived locally for years and had seen the buses but could never find it (you turn down by the Arc car wash and then follow it to the end). It's only open for one day a month so you need to check for the weekend but every month as well as a rotating number of buses they have a different theme (have seen meccano and lego models, steam punk and 40 Christmas). The highlight of every open day is the change to ride on historic buses. The Museum is run entirely by volunteers who painstakingly restore buses and vehicles to their full glory. As well as buses they have military trucks, milk floats, scooters, bicycles, a Romany Caravan, cars a coffin transporter and an old tram. They even have a section with WWII memorabilia and a huge model train set. The staff are incredibly helpful and as they are all volunteers you can tell its a labour of love and it shows in their enthusiasm. The ladies in the cafe even make a great cup of tea and a slice of cake! With kids entry being free and adult entry relatively cheap this is a fun and educational great value day out. They even have annual memberships that cost less than an average take out! This place is definately worth and afternoon of your time.

Thrybergh Country Park, located in Rotherham, offers a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy. The park features footpaths, picnic areas, play areas for children, and an open water venue. It is an ideal place to explore the English countryside with its reservoir and natural preserve. Additionally, the park provides opportunities for fly fishing and has a cafe where visitors can relax and enjoy refreshments.
Had a lovely family walk around the lake at Thrybergh Country Park. The sunny yet Autumnal weather was glorious and the lake was so clear, it was really impressive. The flat and level path around the lake was a nice steady walk and on a Saturday afternoon didn't seem too busy with dog walkers and joggers. Approximately 50% of the path around the lake is relatively new tarmac, with the rest compacted material with a few puddles, but nothing difficult to navigate. The small playground entertained my kids for about half an hour and me and my wife enjoyed a great and competitively priced coffee from the cafe to enjoy on the benches nearby. I was thoroughly impressed with how free from litter the whole county park was. It was noticeably clean and tidy, so the park rangers are clearly doing a fantastic job.

Lovley place to go for a walk £3 all day for parking. The cafe is a basic but has choices of sandwiches and drinks.
Zoe L — Google review
Update July 2025. The cafe is being refurbished and will open around November? Parking for all day is £3.10. You can get coffee, cakes, ice creams, chocolate, crisps and pizza (which look great) at the ice cream cafe. A beautiful 3 mile walk round. On one level, wheelchair accessible. A pleasant 17⁰. Some nice wildlife to spot, including a hummingbird hawk moth, damselflies, meadow browns, ringlet butterflies, pondscaters, and a heron. Hope Fields is lovely, with its bug houses, wild meadow, sculptures, bird watching hide and pond. It has a great little cafe, a good selection of food for a quick bite to eat, plus various coffees and other drinks. Lovely sitting outside to eat today. Proper ice creams are available in an adjacent building, ice cream parlour. There's a small wooden play area/ structure and outdoor seating overlooking the lake. Seed was £1 for feeding the wildfowl at the ice cream parlour. Parking is cash or contactless. We paid £2.70, all day parking, as we would have gone over the £1.60 for 2 hours? (I think) It's definitely worth a visit. Ideal for a stroll and dog walking and that important quality family time. A perfect time to chat in a lovely, peaceful place.
Victoria S — Google review
Had an unexpected delightful walk round here! 3 quid to park, cafe, toilets, a little trail, a few seats on the way round - not all with a watery view 😆

Small park with a flat walk around it. Nice and scenic. Toilets and a cafe. Only downside was the nearby Hooton Lodge which was way too loud. Been back, lovely and quiet. Great cake at the cafe.

Rotherham Minster, a Church of England church originally constructed in the 14th century, has been a cornerstone of the region for over a millennium. The gothic architecture, including stained glass windows and high-vaulted ceilings, exudes European charm and offers visitors an enchanting experience. The church is renowned for its 12 bells and serves as a focal point in downtown Rotherham.
This is a beautiful building in a location up the hill so good views all around and down onto the town. The stone work is lovely with intricate decorative features and inside there are wonderful examples of stained glass in the windows and striking ceiling displays. There were only a couple of people in the building when I visited but it was plain to see that this is very much community oriented with children’s play areas, tables and chairs in addition to the pews and also lots of information.
Anne S — Google review
It looks a lovely building, and I really wanted to see inside. I was disappointed it was closed, especially as all the online information said it was open from 10.00-12.00 on Saturday.

Nice. Really good to visit. A lot of interest history to be found. Unfortunately showing signs of untidy neglect and could do with some attention. No-one in sight when we visited. Check times before visiting. Not open much really.

Impressive from the outside. Found one info board in the surrounding area about an old pub next door that was demolished. Not open when I was there around 10am.

Visited on the 19th August for the Thomas Rotherham exhibition. I joined the tour of the Bell tower which was amazing. Malcom was our tour guide and was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. So was the warden Richard. The church is an amazing place well worth a visit.
Caroline B — Google review
Beautiful building. Visited when in Rotherham for the first time. Monday afternoon about 2pm, was able to access the Church for quiet and private prayer. There is no holy water available by the main entrance door (or anywhere I saw inside). Also, have to say I do not think they reserve the sacrament (couldn’t see any sanctuary lamps at the high Altar or chapel) which is a shame. The presence of Christ would have been welcome for my prayers. Did not attend a Mass / Eucharist service but would like to.

Museum Of The Moon - sound bath (event) Enjoying a relaxing sound bath under the moon! Museum of the Moon is a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram. Measuring seven metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface. Sound baths are a meditative practice involving the use of resonant music. This creates an immersive sound that fills the space, and the body, aiming to help people relax and let go of stress, anxiety, or other worries and concerns. People report feeling deeply relaxed after sound baths, which may have health benefits. This event was part of a day of programming by WOW Rotherham.

Really enjoyed my granddaughters fourth birthday party here. Great place, staff are very good and made sure the children had time to play on the equipment but also time for games with them. I was impressed with how they engaged with the children while they ate, magic with the dragon and made it an interesting time. I wondered if a tinkling bell or chime bar might help when the helpers needed to attract the children( and adults ) attention when they were wanting to speak sometimes

What a wonderful birthday party experience we had for our son’s 5th birthday this weekend. The host put her heart and soul into greeting, entertaining the children at dinner time and disco time, had the whole room in laughter and engaged and honestly did everything she could to make it an enjoyable experience for the birthday boy and his family but also individual guests throughout the night. I honestly could not have asked for anymore and this place has clearly made a fabulous impression on children coming to their parties time after time as my son asked specifically to have his party here after being a guest at other parties and he felt very special. Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts we will remember this party forever and in certain we’ll be attending plenty more as guests!

Grimm & Co is a charity that helps children in need. They work with organisations such as the NSPCC and Comic Relief. Every purchase you make contributes to their cause, which makes this charity one of the most important on your list. The staff are friendly and engaging, especially with young readers. The shop is bursting with creativity, and there's never a dull moment.
A delightful magical environment for all age groups. Gifts cafe the coffee is excellent & the staff welcoming & really pleased to receive visitors of all ages groups. We are so lucky to have this in our Rotherham Town.

Really lovely place for kids and adults with kids. They have turned the old church into some where quite magical. Well worth a visit the kids loved it. Great cafe with friendly staff. Wasn't sure what to expect but it's really impressive

Me and my son spent a lovely couple of hours here today. The staff are incredibly welcoming and warm, an Elf lady showed us around and gave us the story of Grimm & Co. The space is beautifully converted and the attention to detail is incredible, with little fairy doors hidden around and holes for peaking. The shop is really cute and we bought a 'dragon egg' bath bomb. We read lots of books from the donated bookshelf while we ate in the cafe and the staff made sure we took one home which was a nice surprise. Also had the nicest cheese scone I've ever tasted!! The menu seems to have come along really well since the other reviews on here. Would recommend a visit to anyone for a little slice of magic ♥️

Visited Grimm And Co today. My first visit since the creative writing mecca's move to the old Talbot Lane Methodist Church. What. A. Place. Only sorry I didn't take any pics... Truly magical, with real Harry Potter vibes. An inspiring venue, and very welcoming... Something for Rotherham to be proud of.
Tom S — Google review
Went for the cafe and was disappointed. Dry chewy bread that was full of holes and fell apart, cut so thick my daughter couldn't eat it. The salad was just a bowl of leaves and citrusey vinegrette
Faye H — Google review
As a grandparent I would consider myself as a bit of an expert in places to take children. As many of our family are on the autism/ADHD spectrum the overstimulated theme parks just don't do it for us. Then we came across Grimm and Co. We have had several visits now, across an age range of children. Each visit has been perfect in its own right. Enough creative interest to grab all imaginations but in a space that excites but dosent overwhelm. We love that we can do things at a pace that suits us, so many different activities which are free. All the team make it a fun safe place to be that is just different enough without being totally odd. Special thanks to Sarah who is a shop elf I think. Her story telling skills are the best I have ever come across. She talks to the children with such fun respect and intrigue. Each child feels like they are the most important person she has spoken to. Of course the rest of the team deserve recognition too. It's rare to find a place that is as enertaning for a toddler and a teenager and all the adults in our parties have loved being there too. If you are not sure if it's the place for you please just go. The photos and descriptions can't fully explain how amazing it is. In June we visited with our Australian family who were on a huge UK tour. They had visited London, lots of Scotland and various places. Their children still rate Grimm and Co as one of the best places they visited. 😍 Brilliant for children and young people of all abilities but it's unusual in the fact that neuro diverse children feel particularly at home there alongside children of all abilities.

Clifton Park in Rotherham, England is a sprawling 47-acre park that offers a variety of attractions and events for both locals and visitors. The park boasts beautiful gardens, a water play area, mini-golf, an outdoor gym, and a skatepark. Its iconic bandstand hosts live music performances and theater shows during the summer months. Additionally, the park is home to Clifton Park and Museum as well as Eureka! The National Children's Museum.
It’s probably 50 years since I was last in Rotherham so I had only vague memories of Clifton Park. I am so pleased that I made the walk up the hill to revisit. I visited on Monday so I knew that the Museum would be closed but missed the fact that this would also mean that the cafe would be closed. The site is huge with amazing facilities for young families. I managed to visit the small modern walled garden which was lovely. The memorial at the entrance is very striking. Great maintenance of the Park by a dedicated team of gardeners. Clifton Park is well worth a visit and perfect for picnics etc.

Brilliant had a great day here Got here for 9.50am on a Sunday and parked fine by 10.30am the carpark filled up after 11.30am no chance parking unless on side roads. Had an awesome time. The outdoor parks, crazy golf, funfair, splash park and land train loads to do.

What a brilliant place! Our lad had so much fun all day!! He was exhausted and happy, then slept like a log!

The park is really nice, a lot to do. The one thing which I will NOT RECOMMEND is the ice cream van next to sand play area. These prices there are HUGE. Robbery durring the day £4-£6 for single ice cream with cone. But just 100 meters down to the toilet entrance is the little coffee shop with some tables and chairs and there you can have the same ice cream for little as £2.

It was amazing day out with the kids, I recommend it to everyone. Also contains big water splash area
Mohamed S — Google review
We are so privileged to have a park like this near us. With the various areas of recreational areas, mini theme park memoral rockery as pictured to name just a few.Work is well underway with the splash park revamp should look amazing when finished.
Christopher J — Google review
They've done a good job of renovating the children's splash pool area, its now looking great! The coffee hut could be bigger with more windows for service but the park itself as a whole is fantastic for a day out.
Matt S — Google review
Clifton park is great for the whole family for all ages , the rides, crazy golf, play area, skate boarding, tennis courts, splash park and a museum. The park is well looked after , and it’s great, few things missing, decent toilets, more seating areas and more bins, apart from that it’s a great park Oh apart from the ice cream van! . Went the other day between £4 and £8 for an ice cream.. ridiculous…. tip..it’s cheaper at the little cafe near the splash pool .

Wentworth Woodhouse is a grand Jacobean manor house located just outside Rotherham, England. It is the largest privately owned house in Europe and boasts a unique blend of baroque and Palladian architecture. The estate covers 87 acres of magnificent gardens, making it a popular attraction for visitors. Additionally, the area offers various other attractions such as Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Stainborough Park, and Cannon Hall Museum.
Good venue for a full day out. Big garden and grounds to explore with families and young children. There are picnic areas outside as well as cafés inside the main building. There are two floors to explore with stately rooms, however, there are bare of furniture with various modern expositions instead. Various watchful and stern staff can be found inside the building throughout, checking for wristbands and that no one does anything untoward like touching paintings. Overall a good day out.
Cristina D — Google review
Wow what a stunning venue and grounds with spectacular views. We visited during the new steampunk event and I was blown away by the scale of the building. The accessible areas are beautiful and the history on show is super interesting. I can’t wait to go back as more and more is renovated and opened to the public. They offer tours and behind the scenes events you can prebook and have an onsite cafe with good menu choices available. The staff are friendly, helpful and incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the building and grounds. There’s a fantastic creative area in the gardens for children and rooms set up in the house for them also. A great day out.

This was once an astonishing house and grounds, and still is although it had a tough 20th century. There is now a trust beginning it back into use, and doing an excellent job by the look of it. Most of the original gardens have been lost, but there are a few areas of interest (kids area is particularly good) and lots of space for generally rambling. I had a nice lunch at the Butler's pantry although wish I'd waited and had something up range at the Camellia House. Look out for the deer on your way up to the house.
Andrew J — Google review
We went to the steampunk weekend and was not disappointed. The stalls were brilliant and the displays were very good too, I especially enjoyed the Doctor Who part 🤩. The trail through the forest of bewilderment was brilliant with of engaging stuff for children.
Lizzie P — Google review
Spectacular on the outside however nothing really to see inside except some walls. Only a few rooms are open for visits and there is literally nothing in them, all furniture has been removed. Was expecting to see how people lived back then but all the rooms are empty. I went at the begging in of November and was not impressed by gardens either as they looked like everything was left behind in them. May be better in summer or when they hold events but on a regular day is not worth the money at all.
Irina — Google review
As a couple we have been to some large buildings from the likes of Blenheim to the vastness of Castle Howard and even still, nothing prepared us for the sheer size of Wentworth, driving past to park your car the building feels like it just keeps expanding. The house is nice but the gardens are the magical part, from the orangary to the temple overlooking what once was a trully vast estate, we only explored behind the house and up the path to what once was the stables, itself a large building (closed to the public). The other beautiful thing here is the difference in architectural styles from the front to the back of the house, feeling almost like you are visiting to very stunning buildings without moving more than a few hundred feet. My only criticism and its very slight is the sign to the garden at the rear of the property needs enlarging and reiterating as its down a panelled corridor and through a door that doesn't scream garden but more a staff area door, for staff consideration, i might suggest something hung or stuck as you come off the undercroft above the passageway. The cafe was scrumptious and the staff really added a smile and a kind atmosphere and charm to a wonderful venue, we look forward to returning and seeing what one visit could fit.

A Blooming Good Time at the RHS Flower Show, Despite the Rain! What a truly fantastic day at the RHS Flower Show! This year's event was a spectacular affair, boasting an impressive array of stands and exhibits that showcased the very best of horticulture. From stunning floral displays to innovative garden designs, there was inspiration around every corner. Beyond the visual delights, the fantastic food selection truly stood out. There was a diverse range of delicious options to choose from, catering to every palate and making for a delightful culinary experience. The only minor setback was the weather. While the intermittent rain didn't completely dampen spirits, it would have been much more comfortable if there had been more tables under cover. This would have allowed visitors to enjoy their refreshments without battling the elements. Nevertheless, it was a memorable and highly enjoyable day out!
Alison C — Google review
Absolutely wonderful! After so many years of neglect, it’s been lovingly and carefully restored to its full splendour. Every detail has been brought back to life with such care and respect for its history. It’s truly heartwarming to see something so beautiful given a second chance — a perfect blend of preservation and passion. You can really feel the love and effort that went into every part of the restoration.

Kelham Island Museum in Sheffield is a captivating destination that delves into the city's industrial history. Located on a manmade island with over 900 years of heritage, the museum offers interactive galleries and skilled craftsmen showcasing Sheffield's manufacturing roots. From steel-making to the mass production boom during the Industrial Revolution, visitors can explore various aspects of industry, including exhibits on knife-sharpening and a working 12,000hp steam engine.
Great museum, well worth a visit to find out more about industry in Sheffield. At 2pm they run the steam engine that is well worth watching. Free entry and accepts donations, don’t forget to complete your gift aid if donating. Staff were very nice and very helpful. Toilets are clean, well stocked and tidy. Cafe is good for a coffee and cake, like other museum cafes a little expensive but well worth it. There is a kids activity sheet to complete and some hands on exhibits and a little dress up area too so kids will like it here. Not one negative to our experience. Suitable for all ages. Free parking or 10 to 15 minute walk to town.

A wonderful museum detailing the history of steel making and the making of tools and of the cutlery trade in Sheffield. Helpful friendly staff. You can wander at your leisure or have guided tour. No entry charge but donations welcomed. Small car parking further on past the museum entrance. The Museum is a ten minute walk from Shalesmoor blue tram stop.

Nice visit to the museum with the kids, free entrance however donations recommended (cash or card) educational for the kids. They enjoyed looking and learning about the dofferent items on offer. Parking at the back, reasonable prices £1.50 for 2 hours.

A must visit for technology and history buffs when in Sheffield. While the museum is free, donations are welcomed. I spent a good deal of time here just exploring and absorbing the steel industry. Who knew that aside from armoury and steel plating, sheffield was also famous for cutlery and other steel based utensils including pocket knives! Friendly staff just enhanced the whole experience. You also get to see the huge steam engine made for rolling steel and which they turn on allow to run on Thursdays to Sundays. Check the times as I missed seeing it run having visited on Wednesday. Still an amazing site to behold!! Love the visit and I highly recommend it.
Dharm N — Google review
This is fantastic if you are an engineer or interested in the history of steel making. Lots of great exhibits the best of which are the large steam engine which you can see running it made me tingle watching it. Also a Crossley engine that turns over showing how these things worked plus plenty more things check out their website. Suggested payment is £5 which is frankly very low for the display on show. You must go

The most spectacular little museum which turns into a tardis inside. This is not just about steel or cutlery but about the growth of a city. Try to visit when the are running the River Don engine it is spectacular.

The Millennium Gallery, located in Sheffield, England, is a modern museum that opened in 2001 as part of the city's Heart of the City project. Divided into four sections, it features the Special Exhibition Gallery showcasing touring exhibitions from renowned galleries like the Tate and Victoria and Albert Museum. The Craft and Design Gallery displays works by past and present craftsmen and designers, while the Metalwork Gallery highlights Sheffield's metal industries.
As a wedding photographer based in North Wales, the majority of my work is based around the countryside. When I was invited to shoot a wedding at The Millennium Gallery in Sheffield I was so excited. The ceremony was held in the gallery and it was an absolute gem for a wedding! Flooded with natural light it created the perfect conditions. The central location made it easy to explore the city right after the ceremony for some epic, cityscape shots with the couple. I’m now desperate for my next Sheffield wedding!

Close to the Sheffield theatres and accessible from the Sheffield Winter Gardens, the Millenium Gallery is a small but very well curated space with some permanent and some temporary exhibitions all situated to one side of the Gallery. The space also includes a small shopping area with books, prints, jewellery and more for sale. The staff are lovely! Well worth a visit if you are in Sheffield for even a short period.

Millennium Gallery is a small but well curated collection in central Sheffield. We accessed it through the Winter Garden. Entrance is by donation. The gallery is informative and well signed. While our visit wasn’t long (under an hour) it was well worth our time. There is also a lovely gift shop. Exhibits and gift shop both tell some of the history and culture of the city. It was a great stop before seeing a show, as it’s right next to the theatre.

A lively Gallery at the heart of the city, vlose to station and city centre. There's always something going on. Has a cute shop, good cafe and toilet facilities. Events and exhibitions run all year round. Really good and welcoming staff. I had the pleasure of working with them for an art installation for one of their exhibitions and the experience was good.

Whether you're an ice skating enthusiast or just looking for a fun and healthy activity, this facility has something for everyone. It's also a great place for families to enjoy quality time together on the ice.
We attended happily ever after event and it was brilliant !!!!!. I want to mention the staff that was brilliant with me and my family we had an elderly family member that was very unsteady on her feet and on oxygen. When I asked if there was a wheel chair we could borrow as it was extremely busy they didn't hesitate on helping us and proving a wheelchair chair and making sure we had an enjoyable experience a true credit thankyou.

This is a great place. 2 ice rinks in building, ice hockey camps and ice hockey team (Sheffield steelers)play out of this rink. The café is large, superb food with good selection, non alcohol drinks and also small bar. Lots of seating to watch games. Would highly recommended this arena

Great rink but customer service has gone really downhill since they were taken over by everyone active :( every time I’ve rang the call just gets cutoff, very frustrating. It’s also really really difficult to find where to book for a public skate! They really need to make it clearer / easier.

It is a well maintained place, especially with 2 ice rinks, and the ice is not too bad. It is quite busy sometimes. However, there is enough space on the ice. Visitors have praised the friendly staff and stewards, as well as the overall family-friendly environment.
Came here as a Saints fan and hugely impressed in the family atmosphere of the whole place. Games, stalls, really welcoming and friendly staff, stewards and organisers. I'll be honest, not the place I'd normally visit, but my daughter was appearing in one of the shows, so I couldn't say no. To be fair, it's a nice little place. Clean, efficient, and friendly staff. Parking is either on the street (if you can find a space) or in one of the car parks that are very close (1 is a minute away, the other 3 minutes away) Like a cheaper version of the West End, in a good way.

We brought my 5 year old here for his 5th birthday treat. We also took his 3 year old sister with us. We watched the ‘Exciting Science’ and it was brilliant. Staff were all super friendly from staff to finish & very helpful. It was a very chilled, relaxed atmosphere. The show itself was amazing & the people on stage were great in their roles. It was interactive for the Children & a good length interval half way where we could get the children some snacks. Although they were young, they still gained a lot of experience by going & really enjoyed it. There were also a few of easy accessible car parks very close by. I’d recommend the booster seats for younger children which they have if you need so they can see over peoples heads In front. Thank you. We look forward to coming back when we find something else we’d like to see.

A small old fashioned theatre. A great place for an immersive close up theatre experience. Parking can be challenging a small pay and display car park close by and some on road metre parking. A nice little refreshment bar selling snacks, hot and cold drinks also a licenced bar and some comfy seating. Toilets are clean. Foyer sells programs, and also has the box office situated there. Located in the heart of Rotherham, Centenary Riverside Nature Park is a peaceful and beautiful nature reserve that's perfect for a walk. With no signage or advertisements, it's easy to miss if you're not looking for it, but the lower path is much nicer than the upper one, which is blocked by mud. The park also features steel henge and deck chair sculptures, which add interest.
Go in the spring. Wildflowers are gorgeous. Paths are mown. Lots of birds and evidence of wildlife. Steelhenge is very cool. Perfect place for a walk.
Mindy H — Google review
Probably the saddest, most depressing place I have visited. Strewn with pollution and rubbish, not pleasant and not well looked after. There is an interesting steel henge sculpture at the top but I'm surprised this place isn't biologically dead with all the rubbish strewn in the water and leeching in from the surrounding industrial businesses.
Vee D — Google review
Sadly the site is neglected for whatever reason. There used to be a large maintained pond on the top bit with a walkway for dipping, but the liner has been pulled away and of course we've had drought but had the pond been maintained, the sticklebacks may have survived. They were left in one small pool under the lily pad but it's just mud now and all the snails and the fish are dead. I know ponds have their cycles, but this has been deliberately destroyed and so it had no chance. Like so many projects, they get funded initially but can't be kept up. Sad.
Rosiecatbandit — Google review
Lovely hidden nature reserve in the centre of Rotherham. It was very muddy around the lake which is to be expected as it is part of the flood plane for the river Don and we have had a lot of rain. The upper path was much better and has lovely views over Rotherham. Our dog enjoyed the walk round too. The steel henge and deck chair sculptures add interest. Looking forward to going in the summer when the wild flowers are in bloom. Bonus was seeing a beautiful kestrel fly over our heads.
Rachel M — Google review
Small nature reserve situated on old steel works . It's not huge but it's a pleasant enough, there are significant signs of wildlife, I saw traces of rabbits and foxs, going on the amount of rabbit droppings there must be a significant population. The sculptures are nice and use the remains of the steel production in the area.
Shox W — Google review
Great little place to walk the dogs although I don't recommend going after heavy rain it is after all a flood plain and the lower part is prone to flooding

Never been before until today and heard great things. Needs better signage on building or on fence outside as easy to drive past. Sadly price had gone up significantly but no notifications of price change on social media or online. Still had cheaper price at the till my friend questioned it to be told it had just gone up. Skate hire Fab no problem Ring great Clean near ring Lots of dumped bags everywhere so could use some lockers or hooks. We did skate and eat. Cafe was rammed and small lots of people sitting without food or drink. Lots had left rubbish everywhere despite signs and bins. Food freshly cooked so make sure you factor that in. Chips were nice. An unassuming industrial unit that hides a wonderful roller skating arena and public rink. The staff are friendly and helpful and the cafe is excellent. They cater for parties of all ages, private functions and even football parties. They have several pre-organised functions throughout the year such as ladies nights or Halloween parties. Thoroughly recommended.

Aberavon Beach in Port Talbot is a spacious sandy stretch, perfect for catching stunning sunset views. It's one of the longest beaches in Wales and is well-equipped with RNLI lifeguards, ample parking, and a lively promenade featuring play areas and an exciting Aquasplash water park. The beach is a hotspot for surfing and offers various other water sports like windsurfing, kite surfing, and kayaking.
Perfect family day at Aberamon Beach We had such a lovely day at Aberamon Beach! It’s a long, sandy beach with shallow water – perfect for kids. I wasn’t worried at all letting them run down and play in the water. They had fun the whole day! There’s a good fish shop nearby, and the ice cream stand had really yummy ice cream – we all enjoyed it! Plus, there’s a big playground close by, which was great for keeping the kids busy and happy. One thing I really liked – the parking! It was super cheap, just £4 for the whole day, and only about a four-minute walk to the beach. That made everything so easy. We stayed all day, and even at the end, the kids still had energy to jump in the waves. The water was cold, but they didn’t mind at all. We all really enjoyed ourselves. Can’t wait to go back!

An outstanding beach. Wales does it again! This is a really lovely beach which is well worth a visit. It’s clean and spacious. It has places to sit on the steps if you don’t want to go on the sand. The sand is great for playing and building! The sea was not cold (temperature was 18 in the last week of July). There are play areas right next to it; one for toddlers, for older children and an aqua park which is a must-visit. There are a few places to eat nearby (Marco’s) which are a standard fare. There was nowhere to rent umbrellas or loungers but you can buy buckets and spades at the RNLI gift shop which is just next to the ferris wheel (I am not sure the ferris wheel works as it was never on when I was there). I would personally come to this beach again, definitely one to come back to.

Beautiful long stretch of clean sandy beach, plenty of parking/disabled parking. Some little cafes and shops along the sea front serving some really tasty food.

The beach is nice but the sea is disgusting 🫣 I would not recommend swimming in it ,it is brown. There is a cafe, fair ,big wheel, ,free toilets and playground near the beach which is good, some free parking and some paid parking.

Lovely beach and Francos chippy is yummy. Can take dogs to the far end of the beach during the summer. Really nice day out
Amie B — Google review
Nice beach. Not pretty, but great for a day with the kids which is what's we went for. Loads of facilities- parks, splash pad, chip shop, ice creams, toilets, funfair (seasonal). The sand itself was very clean with no rubbish or seaweed. The sea was a little polluted, I'm not sure what with exactly but looked a little 'frothy' and left brown muddy, bubbly patches on the sand, that's the main reason for loosing a star. The beach is huge so I doubt you'd ever feel crowded. Lots of cheap parking.

Parks
Rother Valley Country Park is a sprawling 750-acre expanse in South Yorkshire, serving as the gateway to the Peak District. It offers a variety of outdoor activities such as walking and cycling trails, water sports at its large lake, and mountain bike hire including options for families with young children. The park also features a nature reserve, a cafe, and an arts and crafts center.
We ended up here by chance so it was our first visit, it has a range of activities for you to take part in and the staff are very knowledgeable and happy to talk. We just walked around this time but it was a lovely walk which you can decide the distance you are going to do. Our only criticism would be how the cafe service area is set out and is confusing who's queuing or waiting for their order, I think it would be very hectic on their busier days.
Andy F — Google review
Walked around Rother Valley many times over the years but 1st time for my 17 year old daughter and we really enjoyed it. Beautiful scenery and lakes to walk round, lots of activities going off when we went but not in your face, ample parking, some interesting shops, nice vibe.

Rother Valley Country Park is a great place to enjoy the outdoors, with plenty of things to do for all ages. You can walk around the lakes, cycle along the flat paths, or try something more active like paddleboarding, sailing, or using the aqua park. The trails are easy to follow and suit both casual visitors and keen cyclists, while families can enjoy the large play area near the Northern Lake. The park feels calm and open, making it a lovely spot for picnics, walks, or just relaxing by the water and watching the activities around the lakes. The park has good facilities that make your visit more comfortable. The Stables Café, set in an old 18th-century building, is a nice place to stop for drinks or snacks with lovely views of the lake. There is plenty of parking, with both paid and free options nearby, and clean toilets close to the main area. Everything is well looked after, and the park has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you come for adventure or a quiet day in nature, Rother Valley Country Park is a lovely place to spend time outdoors.
Nicholas M — Google review
Beautiful place to have a picnic with friends and family. You can hire bike for £9 per hour, best to take yours if you can. Loads of space to park but the payment was confusing, I paid for the hours I stayed at the pay machine but the barrier wouldn't open until I paid another £1, don't know why. The tech should be working better. The water sport center has lots of activities. If you are into water stuff and swimming, pack a swimsuit. It was my first time and I will return with better preparation now that I know you can do your barbecue fresh on site. It was generally a lovely place to hang out and loved the vibe of everyone doing their stuff. Didn't interact with any staff so can't comment about them.

Very lovely place to visit and just wander. Cafe serves hot & cold drinks and food. Very dog friendly. We only went to have a wander, however there is an activity centre, watersports area, cycles allowed, runners use the pathways. Lovely day out.

The country park is beautiful. Sadly the cafe is unbelievably banal and lacking in healthy & tasty food, plus closes early whilst the park is still active which is a massive missed opportunity, but maybe one day we can have both! All the nature on and around the water is really wonderful.

A beautiful bank holiday at a busy Rother Valley. Lovely walk with my teen who enjoyed chips n cheese from the cafe whilst watching so many people enjoying the facilities and on the water. Top Tip buy your ice creams from the shops as the vans are extortionate!

Great place to visit. Different walks available. We went to the summit which was a lengthy and challenging walk. We did make it on quite a hot day, but took several hours up and down the same route. Amazing to do and kits to see.
Trudi G — Google review
Absolutely enjoyed this hike! Peaceful, challenging, with some of the best views and plenty of sheep. The water from the lake is super clean, and I even went for a swim. On top of that, the parking is cheap at just £3 for 4 hours. Would recommend it to anyone, 5/5 stars. Ps: the water is cold and hiking path becomes a lot more challenging after you reach the lake. Summit is the second peak to the right. Bring plenty of drinks and remember to leave nature better than you found it!
Doritos — Google review
We, as a family of four, did the hardest route and it was so worth the burn. So pretty and the perfect temperature. The hardest part of the hike was definitely the first little bit through the woods but once you get up the first mountain, it’s really easy. We went into a little shelter for lunch and met some nice people and surprisingly, a mama sheep came in and hung out with us! A few minutes later her baby sheep poked its head in. So cute!! It took us about 5 hours to do along with little breaks we took every once in a while. The walk down was a bit hard on the knees and some areas are made of gravel so be careful there as they do roll out from underneath your feet. Overall a very fun hike!!
Anastasia C — Google review
Maybe the best walk in Wales,so much better than Snowdon. The views are spectacular, the lakes christel clear and there are less people. Plus there are loads of side walks to other peaks for the adventurous. Its a steep climb with loose shale in some places so wear solid footwear. You can do the circuit in 4 hours if you really move and don't stop to enjoy the views but for most people its about 5 hours in good weather. Allow 6 if you are not good at climbs or want to do some side walks.
Rennie S — Google review
Fabulous walk and didn't want to come back the same way. I decided on the circular but extended it to walk down onto the Mach Loop and see some fighter jets. This was a very steep and sketchy descent. Used the bridleway adjacent to the road to get back to the car park. You do have to walk the last 200mtrs on the busy road though. Well worth the extra effort.
Andy — Google review
Went to Wales last weekend with the lads and visited Llyn Cau. We climbed Ben Nevis on a previous trip but this time we wanted to mix it up and spend more time actually enjoying ourselves, so we went for the hike up to the lake and gave the full walk a miss. But I’d definitely come back and tick that one off the list. We spent the day paddle boarding, swimming and flying the drone, which was perfect for mountain surfing around the ridgelines. The scenery was stunning, one of those places where you just stop, breathe it in and feel lucky to be there. The water was cold but properly refreshing after the hike. Cracking day out. If you’re after a scenic adventure with a good mix of effort and chill, this place is spot on.

A hard slog at times, respect your ability and respect the mountain. I'm 72 and fit for my age and made it to the top. Very, very rewarding, stunning views and you're bound to make friends with other hikers. Take your time, I took 7 hours on the pony path and back and it was worth every step, enjoy

Aston Springs Farm, founded by sisters Sam and Emily Swain, offers a delightful farm trail experience where visitors can interact with a variety of animals including alpacas, rabbits, sheep, birds, pigs, deer, goats and reptiles. The nature trail walk allows guests to feed the animals while enjoying the picturesque surroundings. Additionally, the woodland farm trail features meerkats, alpacas, sheep and rheas. Families can make use of the picnic area and play zone for children.
The VIP experience here was absolutely fantastic, holding reptiles, small mammals, baby goats, feeding lambs, picking eggs from the chicken coops. My 3 year-old absolutely loved it and Lauren the animal keeper who took us on the tour was super friendly. Fantastic value - we will be back! Topped off with a delicious ice-cream!

Lovely little small farm and you can feed the animals. Amazing cafe, had a scone and cappuccino, best scone I've ever tasted and I'm fussy with food. All staff were friendly and polite.crafts to do as well in courtyard. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because of the incline up to the animals, saying that there were plenty going up with pushchairs and children.

Chapel
Historical landmark
The picturesque Our Lady on the Bridge Chapel, constructed in 1483 as part of Rotherham Bridge, serves as a significant Christian place of worship. Renowned among locals as the town's most historic site, this charming landmark harbors an intriguing crypt that once served as a prison and bears ancient graffiti etched onto its walls. To immerse oneself in an authentic British encounter, seek out the numerous volunteer groups found nearby.
I had the opportunity to go inside and down into the vault on one of their open days. Such an interesting little building steeped in rich history. The volunteers are a friendly and welcoming bunch who are very knowledgeable about the local history that surrounds this intriguing building. Well worth a visit even if you just admire their famous history stain glass window which tells the story of the civil war days in Rotherham. To get to the vault you do need to go backwards down a small ladder and the ground is rough and uneven but you will get to see some historical graffiti and the original 15th century doors.

I've passed the chapel many times and I always believed it to have been closed or abandoned building,a intriguing to look at but thinking it was closed never sort to actually visit it.the volunteer's we're lovely my friends son with a broken arm managing to visit the jail cells in the basement of the chapel.which is a little tricky to get to and a little more if you have a broken arm.well worth a visit
Martin B — Google review
A beautiful little medieval chapel with loads of history and atmosphere. On the occasional open days they have they give you a guided tour of the crypt which used to be the local jail. There are cell doors down there covered in graffiti written by prisoners long ago. You really get a feel for the prisoners who stayed in those tiny damp cells with stone bunks.. There is a beautiful stained glass window at the back of the chapel and a tiny window at the front reached by a staircase where in medieval times the chaplain used to place a candle every night to welcome visitors to Rotherham.

Monastery
Nestled in a picturesque valley shaped by the renowned landscape designer Capability Brown, Roche Abbey is a stunning remnant of Cistercian history. Founded in 1147 for the White Monks, this site boasts one of the most intact ground plans of any English monastery. The abbey's Norman Gothic church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, was completed just 25 years later and adds to its ethereal charm.
Superb and wonderful. Approach by car is down a charming single track cobbled surface. Small car park. Extensive ruins with fast flowing stream running straight through the middle. Utterly charming and idyllic. So glad we stopped.

This place was wonderful! It was amazing to see the ruins, and it's great for a nice walk as there's no entry fee. The only downside was that there was quite a lot of graffiti on some of the walls, which was really annoying as these kind of places should be preserved as best as they can be.
Connor C — Google review
Not a large parking area and it can get busy at a weekend . Just a note that a gate is closed at the top of the road at 5.30 which could lock you in . At the moment it's free to enter so no facilities are available. It's lovely for a quiet picnic and a couple of hours outside in the fresh air
Janice W — Google review
Lovely tranquil place. The water running through it makes it even more magical. The only downside is the pointless damage caused by people carving names and such in the stone at the old gatehouse. I mean really what is the point???
Mark — Google review
Would have been a 4 or even 5 star a while ago, but the nice little gift/information shop on site looks like it's shut down. No drinks, no toilets, no information, no help. I've paid money to join English heritage and now my nearest site is free for anyone to just stomp around. I'ts like English heritage have given up on it. It's a beautiful place that could be fantastic if only a bit of money was spent on it.

The Town Hall Museum & Art Gallery houses a historical collection of local finds, including Roman pottery and many Civil War relics, as well as art from the past and present. It is located in Newark's historic Town Hall building.
This small museum, in the exceptionally fine Georgian Town Hall, is well worth a visit (and free!), with a fascinating collection of the town's history and an interesting art collection, especially featuring the Nicholson family. What a gem. On the first floor (you need to ask to see it) there is an absolutely stunning ballroom. I had no idea and was not expecting anything so magnificent. Designed by John Carr and built in 1776. It has the mayoral offices and the "tiny house". The guide was so friendly and knowledgeable. Gilded columns, "wedgewood" plasterwork and original colouring - restored in the 1980s. Available to hire - stunning!!! In the attached museum and art gallery see the proclamation chair - and various paraphernalia of the town council. Art displayed from many wonderful artists including William Nicholson and William Caparne.

Rather disappointed by Newark as a whole. Interesting castle - shut. Interesting church - shut. Town hall and museum - shut. Despite Monday being one of the market days, many stores were shut. Don’t you realise people visit an all days of the week and may well come for the market. If you’re not open, you’re not making money

The Rockingham's Mausoleum, a memorial dedicated to the 2nd Marquis, stands tall at a height of 90ft. It is only accessible on Sundays from 2pm to 5pm during the period from Spring bank holidays until the end of August. However, I do not recommend walking through the woods to reach it as pheasant hunting takes place there. This place offers peace and tranquility along with the best vantage point for viewing Wentworth Woodhouse.

Canklow Woods is a charming woodland area that offers the perfect setting for a peaceful and scenic circular walk. The woods are home to beautiful silver birch trees, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts. While some paths may be muddy at times, the overall tranquility and natural beauty of the area make it worth exploring. Visitors can enjoy free parking at Boston Castle and choose from various routes to explore the woods.
free parking at Boston castle. there are many routes inside the wood you can explore, beawear some routes are overgrowth with nettles, brambles and ferns.

Lovely wood and can do a circular walk. If yr favourite tree is a silver birch this is the place to go. Paths a bit muddy just now (had me on my bum) but will soon dry up. No one there so if you want a peaceful work ideal

Impressed with the quality of the plants. It was good to be able to view them and ask questions about suitability and get valuable advice. We bought a tree fern and it was priced attractively compared to other places we have seen them. The tree fern was delivered by arrangement this afternoon and we are really pleased with it. It looks great. Thanks so much for your help and prompt delivery.

I recently purchased a selection of plants from Dirt Cheap Plants for a garden design project. After the initial enquiry I received a reply in good time and additional information on the stock available. The plants are great quality, price good value and delivery to Norfolk very accommodating. Would highly recommend!
Kelsey G — Google review
I can only say the best about Janet and Graham. The communication was excellent just as their customer service. All my questions were answered and I even received plant care suggestions from Janet in my garden. Delivery was ultra quick. The palms are perfectly healthy, beautiful and they got set into their final positions ready for planting. They went beyond my initial expectations and were kind enough to offer to move the plants into my back garden saving me from the headaches moving them myself. They definitely gained a new returning customer.

I would thoroughly recommend a visit here to anyone that’s into or looking for exotic plants. Janet has a lot of knowledge within the plants that your purchasing and aftercare also. I had been after a proper Rex form tetrapanex for some time an I finally managed to get hold of one.

Fantastic quality plants from independent family run business. Since they started offering delivery I was able to buy a 6.5ft fren tree I wouldn’t have been able to before, delivered next day was incredible service. Highly recommended

My Banana plant arrived very quickly and in great shape. Janet was great with communication. Will definitely buy from these guys again. Edit: The courier company somehow managed to damage my Sago palm, I contacted Janet and a new one was quickly dispatched. Excellent service and communication. Can’t praise them enough!

We were really happy with the service. Purchased a beautiful palm tree and it was delivered the same day. Very approachable and lovely people, gave us all the advice we needed. Will definitely use them again.

More like, Anston Stones Wood. A wonderful little place, woodlands and the brook. It was a bit of a struggle to get to... We parked on a lay by on the A57... Not a good idea unless you park on the right side of the road. We had to cross the very busy main road with two little ones...😓 But once you're in there, it's peaceful, beautiful and so calming. The kids were prepared with their wellies to paddle and play in the brook that runs all along. We ventured up to the Dead Man's Cave, a shame it was littered with shattered bottles and other rubbish... But the kids had a nosy. Just opposite the little path that takes you to the cave, we came across an open field and spent about half an hour in there, just to chill and take in the vast open space. ♥️♥️ I didn't see anywhere to have a little picnic, but there were many logs and big fallen trees... No doubt they'll come in handy to rest tired legs and grab a quick sandwich. ♥️ We are definitely going back, this time armed with towels, change of clothes and a picnic. 😍😍 Beautiful.... P.S. while driving near South Anston, at the lights, if you turn like you are going towards the Butterfly House, there is a Children's centre there opposite which is a car park. A friend parked her car there and walked from one end to the other. I'm keeping that in mind for the next time.

Interesitng little cave with history situated in the woods. Nice walk through the woods to get there, bit tricky to find as its off the main walkway, I advise googling a guide before you set out. Even if you do take a wrong turn, there's interesting rock formations to look at. Just be careful you don't fall as it is a long steep drop down.
Michael D — Google review
Was a nice walk and rather tricky to find such a shame that it has been vandalised by graffiti.very pleasant walk with the kids and dog

35Veddw House Garden

Garden
Veddw House Garden, located in the picturesque Welsh border countryside near Tintern Abbey Cottage, is a highly regarded garden featured in The Good Garden Guide. Known for its intricate design, distinctive style, and lush surroundings, this two-acre ornamental garden and adjacent woodland have attracted numerous admirers over the years. One cannot help but be captivated by the garden's stunning structural hedges that beautifully reflect the natural landscape while promoting wildlife conservation.
Garden visiting is a very subjective process. A garden is or is not to your taste. Although I'm not a fan of show gardens at Chelsea etc., the judging process is, perhaps, relevant to the appreciation of gardens generally. A major factor in awarding medals at Chelsea is how well the garden has met the design brief. Any garden open to the public (including the NGS) will have some sort of design brief - in the case of the NGS this will be the owner's description in the Yellow Book. When you visit, you have to judge whether the garden meets that description. If it does, then great. Veddw House Garden is heavily documented both online and in print. Its makers, Anne Wareham and Charles Hawes are well known garden critic and photographer respectively. I doubt anyone who has researched the garden before visiting it would venture to suggest it was not as expected. Anyone who visits a garden without some, at least minimal, advance research is "going to look at the flowers" rather than appreciate the garden for what it is. There is no tea and cake at Veddw. This is plainly stated on the garden's web site. And long may that remain. Running a teahouse operation requires high visitor numbers to make it commercially viable. Veddw is an intimate garden. It would be ruined by high visitor numbers. If you want tea and cake, there's a pub just down the road. You can whip round Veddw in half an hour. Or you can experience the garden. It's your choice. I find that even after several visits, it takes nearly an hour to "experience". I want more than pretty flowers, thanks. At Veddw I get more. Google's quick questions about a location include "is there disabled access". This garden is multi-level. There are steps but it is usually possible to get somewhere using an alternative route avoiding those steps. But there are some fairly steep slopes which would make getting around in a wheelchair difficult unless the "pusher" is strong. Paths are generally wide enough to cater for a wheelchair and the garden owners are always ready to help with transporting someone from the car park to a lower (private) entrance. Best approach is to contact them in advance of a visit to discuss any special requirements. They will bend over backwards to help.

We were here today, and thoroughly enjoyed it as a family. What a treasure of a place, owned and run by thoughtful people. It was an honour to have been able to share in their garden, my only wish is that we had been able to thank them on our way out
Fin S — Google review
The garden that stops you in your tracks. Amazing structural hedges mirroring the landscape and wildlife friendly and relaxed planting. Well worth taking it all in slowly.
WALTRAUD E — Google review
A unique combination of sculptural topiary and carefully chosen flowers. No matter how many gardens you've seen, Veddw House Garden is well worth a visit.
Gordon P — Google review
Small car park, the view of the garden as you enter is breath taking. Then you should head down to the house to pay your entrance fee and get a map to see the rest of the garden. Worth a visit but a little pricey.
Vicky F — Google review
I have visited Veddw garden several times in the last few years. What a gem! I am so grateful that the owners, in return for a modest entrance fee to help with the upkeep of the garden, are willing to share it with others. The garden is like a secret, lost world; through a small gate you enter a little haven, tumbling down the valley, sitting perfectly in the surrounding landscape. The garden design reflects the history of the place with enchanting references to the place name....something to ponder on as you walk around. The beautifully chaotic planting blends with the surrounding countryside perfectly. The superb, modernistic pond with its wave of hedges and the back drop of the surrounding woodland is inspirational. The owner's home, which has thankfully not been ostentatiously extended like so many of the rural Monmouthshire cottages, sits unassumingly in the middle of the garden. I cannot recommend a visit more highly. Combined with tea at the Old Station at Tintern (wonderful cakes!)and a gentle walk in the meadows by the river Wye, it makes a perfect summer's day out. My only regret is that they are only open for the summer months - I would love to visit in the autumn and winter. However, I quite understand them not wanting to have 'Joe Public' all through the year!
Celia B — Google review
Lovely garden with great amount of benches with great views and privacy.
Aurthur P — Google review
An interesting garden with some very arty design features and sculptural hedging , however as a keen gardener I found the planting far too informal for my tastes, and it had an unkempt feel , not what I was expecting and the entry fee of £7 was not worth it in my opinion as you couldn't really spend more than 50 minutes there so really not worth it . I would be happy to pay up to £4 or the entry fee should include some kind of refreshment .

Can't believe I've been asked to write a review for a War Memorial haha! So I'll try: It's still there. It is kept clean & tidy and a nice tribute to those that gave their lives back then so we can waste ours today. I did find myself having a quick read of the names on there so they don't ever get forgotten. Respect.

From our first class we were hooked! Caroline is so welcoming and as a mum of 2 little girls... she gets parenting can be very hard at times. The classes encourage you to bond with your little one and help with development. However I enjoyed talking to other mums and swapping horror stories. They offer coffee and cake... absolutely a must after class!! The play space is so calming with wooden toys, soft play and low sofas. It welcomes anyone and everyone into a very safe space. Please do not hesitate to book a session or enjoy the play space with a little coffee and cake £7.50- bargain!!

Bright Stars is simply amazing. I’ve tried the sensory, massage and yoga classes which have all been fabulous, as are the one off events like photoshoots and workshops. I’ve met some of the loveliest mum friends here too, and I can’t thank Caroline and Molly enough for the endless laughs and welcoming atmosphere. ❤️

Would definitely recommend Bright Stars Play Space! Having a baby is such an overwhelming experience but bright stars is so welcoming, never rushed after a class, even better you can stay for a coffee. Brilliant to meet other parents. The classes are brilliant, we've done welcome to the world, which is a great taster of all the sessions with tips of what to do with your baby at home. I've also met friends in the play space, yummy cake and a warm drink, whilst the babies can play and are safe. We can't wait to start aquatic Nurture and baby sensory in the new year. Thank you for making the first weeks enjoyable and a lot easier.

Bright Stars was my first place I attended with my little girl when she was 4 weeks old and it was everything I could have ever asked for and more. As a first time mum I was petrified to go to classes on my own as I had never done anything like this before however Bright Stars and Caroline made everything so much easier and perfect. I really lacked confidence and being in a class with Caroline, made me feel relaxed and calm. She is ace with my little one, everyone is so approachable, loving and caring. You can tell this is not just a business it is a family and a home. This comes across in every class they do, every interacting I have ever had with them all. I walked in petrified and I now have friends in Caroline and lots of other mums and babies I've met along the way. We cant get enough and keep going back for different classes so we get to experience everything. I can't thank Caroline and Bright Stars enough for everything they have done for me, my little one and filled my maternity leave with wonderful experiences and memories. Hayley x

As a first time mum, this place has been a godsend. I've met so many amazing mums, some like me and others being seasoned mums that are just full of helpful advice. Everyone is so friendly and whether it's Molly, Caroline or a fellow mum, I know that I can rely on Bright Stars to be full of positivity, encouragement and support. It may have started out as us just going to baby massage, but now I'm going to really miss everyone when I return to work, but I know that I will return at every opportunity! Roll on Saturday classes!
Ruth M — Google review
We did the baby massage course at bright stars and it was brilliant. I ummed and ahhed about doing baby massage as friends had said their classes (with different providers) were poor. Bright stars was nothing like their experiences and we really enjoyed it. We've just started baby sensory and will probably have a go at baby yoga after that. Caroline is really lovely, knows what she's doing and we even got little sheets each lesson of the massage we'd done that day so we could practice at home and really continue with what we'd got from the class.
Lucy K — Google review
The best place to go for classes with little ones or for a relaxed coffee and cake with friends while the kids play. Everyone is welcome. Definitely a hidden gem!

Lovely little play space for babies and toddlers. Plenty of room for them to run around but small enough that you can sit down and be able to see them. They even have a small basket of nappy change time essentials in case you're caught short. Can't recommend it enough
