Mountains
Rauschberg is a 1,671-meter mountain in Germany that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Alps. Visitors can easily access the summit via a cable car, where they can enjoy the stunning scenery and explore easy walking trails. The area also features cozy mountain restaurants and opportunities for hiking. The journey to the top on the gondola provides an exhilarating experience as it ascends along the rocks.
Cable car up to top. Great area to walk around and see the views!!! Great food at top!
Jon S — Google review
Some info for those wanting to climb this moutain. The cable car is closed and they are building a new one to replace it (in theory). Currently no work has started so who knows when it will be. The bar/restaurant at the top are therefore also closed. If you want to hike up to the top: we took 2h10 to go up at an (above) average pace and doing some small mistakes/side wandering. To go down we took 1h20. So in total we did 14km, 900+ and took 3h30. Note that the indicative panels indicate 3h30 to go up only. If you follow the main path, it is very clearly marked and very « easy ». It is a well maintained and wide path. The only difficulty is the distance and gradient (7km one way, 1000m d+) but that’s up to your fitness. We started from Aschenau. To sum it up: no cable car. Go by foot. 7km one way. Ps: there is a danger sign , if you don’t speak German, no worries it is about being careful with your dogs. Some animals might have babies and be protective.

(Translated by Google) Super nice hike, the train was already closed, so there wasn't much going on at the summit. Very happy again. Sehr gerne wieder.

(Translated by Google) Very nice as a half day trip. When the weather is nice you have a great view from Lake Chiemsee to the main ridge of the Alps. We have been up there many times, also because travel is free with the Chiemgau card. The steep journey with the gondola along the rocks is also an experience. At the top there is a viewing platform right next to the station. We also recommend hiking for 20 minutes to the actual summit.

(Translated by Google) Very nice ride with the cable car to the summit. That day we had a very good view over the Chiemgau Alps and Lake Chiemsee. The hiking trails were well laid out, some of which required sure-footedness.

(Translated by Google) The cable car takes you quickly to the mountain station. From there, you can enjoy magnificent views of the Alps in good weather. The varied network of trails offers beautiful hiking opportunities and pleasant spots on the mountain for a snack.

Vita Alpina Erlebnis & Wellnessbad is a fantastic aquatic center offering both indoor and outdoor pools, thrilling slides, and an indoor wave machine. Visitors can enjoy the huge indoor wave pool and several outdoor pools, including a heated one. The facility provides a relaxing experience with minimal crowds, allowing guests to make the most of their time. The on-site restaurant is highly recommended for its friendly staff and delicious food at reasonable prices.
Visited beginning of February, Friday noon. I was worried about being too crowded, but turns out we were max 10-15 people, which was fantastic! Wave pool is nice and made us workout a bit which was good, we enjoined the steam cave (40-45 degrees). We then relaxed in the outside pool with nice views of the mountain 🏔. No waiting line, we were max 5/6. Nice way to spend 2 hours for 11 eur.

Excellent facilities and friendly staff. We visited here on a Sunday and were pleasantly surprised with everything there is to enjoy all in one place. The changing rooms were spotless and the various pools, steam room, and sauna were fantastic.

Hi dear review readers, I recommend this small Therme in winter very much, it is not crowded and outside swim pool was really heated well. There are waves generation slide for kids. Thought the pool for wave generation is colder than outside pool, I don't know if this is the intention. :) There is also a restaurant in it where you can order food and the prices are just like any other restaurant and are not costly. Especially service was really friendly and there is a waitress called Natalie who is really very friendly and does her job with smile on face all the time and time to time asks if everything is good. I have not seen such friendly service not even in bigger restaurants. All in all me and my daughter had very good experience and highly recommend it. Cheers!
Prem P — Google review
Had a great time here. The indoor wave pool was a favourite. Everywhere spotlessly clean. Highly recommended.
Julian K — Google review
Such a nice place, I felt rejuvenated and really enjoyed saunas and swimming pool. Important tip: bring two towels and a robe - one big towel for saunas and one for the shower :) robe is helpful to rest in common areas. The food in a restaurant was tasty, we really liked it. Thank you 💛💙
Malika — Google review
Therme bad was so nice and comfy. Really you can spend 4-5hours easily. Cleanliness is good and worth for money. You gave good view of the alps mountain, very good wave pool where kids and adults can enjoy. It's a great Therme bad in this region. I will always come again with my family.

One of the best restaurants in the area for sure , stuff is very friendly and food is tasty as hell . Priced average and I may say even not expensive. Restaurant itself is beatiful with a beer garden outside and lots of free parking next to the restaurant. Madagascar pork fillet and rump stake are best dishes served .

Very nice and clean Sauna. You can order food from the restaurant as well. I also booked an hour of Massage which was super awesome. Very relaxing for my shoulders and the whole body. Thank you Dominique!

Museum
Specialty Museums
Nestled in the picturesque Bavarian Alps, the Holzknechtmuseum Ruhpolding, or Ruhpolding Forestry Museum, offers a fascinating glimpse into the rich history of logging in the Chiemgau region. Established in 1983 by local forestry enthusiasts and historians, this museum is a treasure trove of interactive exhibits that engage visitors of all ages. As you wander through its thoughtfully organized displays, you'll discover authentic examples of historical buildings used by loggers and gain insights into their daily lives.
Base on the topic someone may not be interested but I totally recommend to visit it. The museum is pretty organised, very interactive and full of insights to have everyone ( adults and kids) enjoying it. On top of the information they have a great display with examples of houses and buildings needed and used in the past by loggers. Very interesting and totally recommend. An additional plus is that there is a nice hike close by. Tip: if you pay 7€ per parking then you can redeemed 4€ in multiple stores so you just really pay 3€ for the parking.
Carolina D — Google review
Very well done and interesting museum. The old buildings in the garden are a real bonus. In the museum some information available also in English.
Kirsi H — Google review
A well-made display illustrating the history of fire-wood logging in the Ruhpolding area - initially serving the needs of the salt industry - and the loggers: the way they worked and lived, the methods and equipment they used, and the evolution of the industry itself.
Jyrki H — Google review
No Museum parking. One have to park on municipal parking which is a rip-off by design. They offer 3 hours parking for 4 euros, or whole day for 7 euro plus write that one will get 4 euros back on purchases in that village, Ruhpolding. But they fail to write clearly that you can't use those 4 euros today. Only tomorrow. It is a deliberately mislparking parking policy.
Ihor K — Google review
Good museum displaying old techniques of log cutting, forestry and about the lifestyle of wood cutters. There is a theatre also. It is also extended outdoors. Few huts/houses are made in which old fashioned ovens, utensils etc. are replicated. You can also buy wooden stuffs, honey, herbs etc. at very reasonable prices.
Narmeen K — Google review
Great stuff but a warning that all exhibits are in German language only. It is worth a look around still. Even if you don't speak the language you can get an English map from reception and work most of it out yourself.

(Translated by Google) A really great hiking trail starts from Unternberg to the Brander Alm. (Translated by Google) Beautiful view of the valleys. A very nice hike that is also possible with children. Of course you can also take the lift up and down. Our family had a great time here. The ride starts on the first and comes down through the meadow which is quite nice. You can go quite fast which is great. There is a little cave and playground as well.

A pretty fun and reasonably priced alpine coaster. It's a little short but easy to go more than once. The staff was very nice and they have a little beer garden too.

Great activity for both adults and kids. Prices are reasonable compared to similar Rodelbahn’s.

Kids had a great time on the Rollercoaster. It's a longer ride than it looks from the bottom of the hill. Worth a few rides for sure. Plus parents can sit and have a coffee or a beer at the bottom of the hill while the kids enjoy the rides.

Nestled in the charming town of Ruhpolding, the Heimatmuseum Ruhpolding is a delightful gem that invites visitors to explore its fascinating exhibits spread across multiple floors. One highlight is the beautifully curated story of the last brown bear, which captivates and educates guests about local wildlife heritage.

Freizeitpark Ruhpolding is a one-of-a-kind amusement park nestled in the heart of a forest. It offers an array of activities that cater to both young and older kids, such as rope gardens, water slides, bag slides, and even a crystal mine. The park also features small animatronic houses that tell stories and a roller coaster for added excitement. While it may be more appealing to younger children, older kids can still find enjoyment in the park's nature-focused rides.
Such a unique, beautiful and fun park! In the heart of the forest, so many things to see and do, perfect for younger and older kids. The only thing to note is that the climb to the park is very steep and could be difficult for younger children or grandparents.

I had an amazing day at Freizeitpark Ruhpolding 🎢🌲. The park is beautifully located in the middle of the forest, offering fresh air and stunning views. There’s a wide range of rides: interactive and gentle ones for kids, and more thrilling ones for adults like roller coasters and giant slides. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 The park is very well-organized, and the staff are friendly and helpful. There are also plenty of seating and dining areas, which makes it very comfortable for families. The ticket price is reasonable compared to the variety of activities and fun offered. Overall, this place combines adventure, fun, and nature, and I highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area. 🌟

One of the best family theme parks I've been to. They've given the park design serious thought and made good use of the hill layout. There was plenty for the kids to explore, touch and interact with. The toilets were also super clean and in excellent condition. I can only recommend families with smaller (pre-teen) kids to visit.

It's a little bit dark for young kids, some attractions seams to be from a scary movie. It's nice, but not sure if kids will have good memories or nightmares. For adults, attractions are boring, for kids scary, hard to say.
Jaime A — Google review
Unique and close to nature. It's literally in the woods at the foot of a mountain. Mostly designed with natural materials, not much plastic. Very well done. The food is mediocre and a bit expensive, but you can bring your own if you want. There are plenty of sitting opportunities and tables (also mostly made of wood). You can spend money for some extras inside, but you don't have to. Great, unique theme park you can easily spend the entire day. You won't find this anywhere else.
Alexander E — Google review
It’s such a beautiful place, up in the hills of a forest, full of enchanting folktales and play equipment. Very adapt to children’s needs, even the toilets are little! A lot of space for picnics and resting and a cafe and restaurant, very convenient and relaxed. Definitely recommended and looking forward to our next visit with our 6 year old!

Amazing fun Park for the whole family... One can easily spend the whole day there. My daughter loved it, so did Oma, Opa and our dog was also allowed in. Restaurant food and prices were very reasonable. The detail in all the entertainment and rides were amazing. Being in the middle of forest also shaded us from a 30 degree day. Great little blacksmith museum with “hammer forge” where the waterwheel moves large hammers to flatten out the steal. All the boards are in German, but it’s worth looking around. There are 2 short movies in German, but you can get the general idea with the words. Tickets are €4.50, and probably worth it. If you are in the area, interested in a little old timey blacksmith trade and have about 2hrs to burn, I highly recommended. You can also buy a ligit hand forged cowbell.

Nestled in the enchanting Ruhpolding area, Märchenwald is a whimsical forest that feels like stepping into a fairy tale. This accessible woodland is adorned with fascinating rocks and trees, alongside charming gnome houses crafted from wood and stone. As you wander through its meandering paths—some of which may lead you off the beaten track—you'll discover delightful surprises like a small waterfall.
Nice place to go with kids, especially in hot days.

- Crowded (it‘s normal, but in Corona time it‘s not so recommended). I didnt have so many pictures because I was lost in enjoying everything there 😂😂. So here are the Plus + billig (about 20€/person for everything exept food and beverage, kids under 86cm tall free) when you compare price to enjoy rolling coaster in Okterberfest or any other game there, it‘s totally billig. + wc is clean, diapers change room + foods are good. Enough places to sit down and eat + Kids and Parents have so much fun. Here comes the Minus: Parents are so exhausted 😂😂😂. After 3-4 Hours when our kids still didnt want to go home, we did have no mood anymore + it‘s in forest, kids enjoy plays and nature at the same time *** when it rains, dont go 😇

Really magical place although short! For first time forest visitors it's a really cool place to visit. With hideouts and primitive style shelters it's really fun for the kids. Would have been better if there was a longer walk.

(Translated by Google) A dreamy little piece of accessible forest. As an adult, I couldn't stop marveling. So many cool rocks and trees, with gnome houses built of wood and stone scattered throughout. It felt like we were going cross-country, as there are paths everywhere, but often they end. We then followed the GPS and returned to the "main path." We continued cross-country (although in the middle of the forest we saw the SalzAlpenSteig symbols – officially a network of paths) up to the small waterfall. Not suitable for small children, as the drop is quite steep. It's best to just bring a camping chair, find a place, and let the children play, or rather, join in. But it's more suitable for children with surefootedness and an aptitude for climbing. We parked across from the leisure park at the hiking car park and then walked about 800 meters to the forest. There's also a small parking lot right in front of the forest. We were there at lunchtime during the week at the beginning of September, and there was nothing going on.

Lake
Weitsee is a picturesque lake nestled in the valley between the Gurnwandkopf and Dürrnbachhorn. It is part of an idyllic trio of lakes, including Lodensee and Mittersee, connected by a scenic bike path weaving through woodlands and waterside. The area offers a great hiking experience with pure nature immersion, perfect for exploring on foot or by bike.
We have been here wir #Bigfoot and #Littlefeet cause we read that this should be a great place. Als the smaller lake Lödensee was recommended. So we went there and it was quite nice. The is a mix of stones and meadow next to the lake and the water is fresh and clear! We loved it (but the Lödensee lake a little bit more). When you walk from the parking area to the “beach side” you cross a small river in which you can see a lot of big and small fishes. Amazing for the kids. We enjoyed this place! We recommend it and the Lödensee too. Nature deluxe!

Mountain peak
Hochfelln, a green peak standing at 1,674 meters, offers a variety of experiences for visitors. Whether you choose to hike or take the tramway, reaching the summit rewards you with panoramic views and a charming chapel. The hiking trails vary in difficulty, with some offering an easy 30-minute panoramic route while others present a more demanding journey that takes several hours. Along the way, hikers can enjoy scenic views and natural beauty.
On one side a beautiful view of the Alps and on the other side a view of the Chiemsee, with the Wagingersee visible in the background. Easy walk from this parking lot (free): 47.7514182N, 12.6291168E along Wanderweg 66 Hochfelln, past the river and the waterfall. The elevation gain is 1000 metres, total route length 7 kilometres, about 3 hours. We walked completely alone for the whole walk, there was no one else around. Watch out for the signposted Maximiliansweg (Beyern), it is in the part after this signpost 47.7574844N, 12.5864965E towards Rupholding is very dangerous. It leads up a steep cliff, the path is cut into the rock, only 20 centimetres wide. There is nothing to hold on to, the abyss below the path is extremely deep. A very, very dangerous place. Completely impassable for dogs. I recommend avoiding it and taking the nicer Wanderweg 66 Hochfelln. It is longer but easy and offers beautiful views of the countryside.

Its a cool mountain to climb, one can use the mountain lift to either go halfway or full way. With 4hours up and 4hours down, it can be a bit steep at the top but the way down is very relaxing and goes quite fast. Its better to drop off at Bergen and then walk about 15-20minutes to the mountain bottom. Its clever to take good shoes, and light bags.

The lovingly landscaped herb garden is particularly ingenious: herbs, flowers, and plants grow everywhere, many of them even labeled with informative signs. You can really learn something – or simply stroll through the beds and enjoy the scent. A real highlight is the natural Kneipp pool. Crystal-clear water, surrounded by greenery – but be careful: ice-cold is an understatement! Stepping in will wake you up instantly. It's like an espresso for your calves. 😄 What particularly impressed us was the bee house. It opens up on the side, and behind a glass pane you can watch the busy bees at work – absolutely fascinating and educational at the same time. Throughout the park, there are plenty of seating areas, beautiful paths, flowers, well-kept green spaces, and the pleasant scent of fresh herbs and blossoms. Children are also catered for – a small playground offers plenty of space to run around. In conclusion: A place to breathe, explore, and enjoy – absolutely recommended for all ages.

Guests can indulge in an array of wellness facilities, including wood-fired saunas and outdoor hot tubs that promise relaxation after a day spent exploring the stunning surroundings. The hotel’s beer garden is truly a gem, where visitors can savor delicious Bavarian classics while enjoying refreshing local brews under the shade of ancient chestnut trees.

(Translated by Google) Yesterday we went to the post office for the first time. From the outside it looks very appealing! The renovation was also very successful inside! The service was very good and courteous! However, when I took a look at the menu, which wasn't particularly appealing, it wasn't particularly clear to me what concept the post office was pursuing. Our drinks were well made and came quickly too! For dinner we had the cheese spaetzle and the natural schnitzel. The plates were arranged absolutely carelessly, in my opinion the spaetzle was tossed in butter, spiced up ready-made spaetzle. In terms of taste, it wasn't bad if the price was reasonable. However, the prices are at a higher level than the quality. All in all, we paid over €47, which in my opinion would only justify the ambience and service, but not the food. We are both trained hotel professionals and know what we are talking about. Maybe we'll give the post office another chance in a while, but then a lot will have to change!

Since the weather wasn't ideal on these days and therefore there was no beer garden operation (it was pouring), I don't know what else would happen, but as everyone knows it is a problem with the lack of staff in the hospitality industry (based on the sometimes bad reviews). But all I can say from my side is that the food was excellent. We were served very friendly and asked again and again whether everything was okay and whether we liked it. A fascinating vault in the dining room. It's nice that there is a guesthouse like this again in Bergen. I wish the young, extremely friendly team all the best for the future and keep it up. It's so simple: add the table number to the order on the plates or drinks to be served and it's fine. The waiter then doesn't have to go from table to table and ask whether this food/drinks belong at the table. A little more staff would make sense when the number of guests is high. Museum
Nestled within a charming 19th-century forge, the Glockenschmiede Museum is a captivating destination that showcases the art of bell-making. This historic site offers visitors an authentic glimpse into traditional craftsmanship, particularly in the creation of cowbells. The museum features fascinating exhibits that highlight the differences between handcrafted wrought-iron bells and those produced in foundries.
(Translated by Google) A must-see, especially if it's included in the Chiemgau Card. It's precisely in this place, in this workshop, that cowbells were made. You can clearly see the difference between the wrought-iron bells made by these blacksmiths and those cast in foundries. The old black-and-white documentary is fantastic. Everything remains as it was then, including the designs on the plaster. Tutto è rimasto vivo e funzionante come allora, inclusi i disegni sull'intonaco.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful little family-run blacksmith shop. You get a lot of information from the two films shown upstairs. A very nice lady, who seems to be part of the blacksmith's family, told us some interesting stories and was very happy that we were there. You can also buy forged bells and pans at the entrance and exit. A great destination for young and old! It's wonderful that something like this has been preserved and kept alive to this day.

(Translated by Google) Very interesting and informative about the history and the hard work of the bellsmith. Informational videos and a well-represented forge with a water wheel illustrate the process. There are a few steps to navigate, so not all areas are wheelchair accessible. Our 2-year-old was able to walk around and enjoyed ringing the bells. Souvenirs were also available at the small entrance booth.

Schnauferlstall Museum, located in Ruhpolding, Germany, was established in 1976 by Johann Schnauferl, a local farmer with a passion for preserving traditional farming tools and equipment. The museum showcases countless historical treasures on two and four wheels, making it a must-visit for motorcycle enthusiasts exploring Chiemgau. Visitors can admire ancient Mercedes Benz vehicles with wood carburetors and motorcycles dating back up to 100 years.

(Translated by Google) A private museum that has been created over two generations with motorcycles, vintage cars and other old collectibles. Although we are not motorcyclists, we were impressed by the many lovingly restored machines. Here you can experience old technology up close. Those familiar with the subject can talk intensively with the owner Georg Hollweger. He restored all the machines himself and knows every detail. You immediately notice that the “Schnauferlstall” is a decades-long passion project. I was particularly impressed by the Mercedes with a wood carburettor, which is currently being restored. The “Schnauferlstall” is an absolute recommendation for lovers of motorcycles and old technology.

The peace and quiet, the sound of the birds in the forest, was simply beautiful. The ride took half an hour. I've rarely experienced such a beautiful ride up a mountain. Thank you so much for this.
