Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
Pont Julien is a well-preserved Roman stone bridge dating back to 3 BC, located in a serene and picturesque setting. The bridge features three elegant arches designed to allow floodwater to flow through without causing damage. Situated near Bonnieux, it was originally built for Julius Caesar and is now part of the green Calavon cycle route. Visitors can explore the cedar forest nearby and enjoy marked botanical trails through the woods.
Great area that you can bike through or drive your Caravan to. Great to take in that history in a beautiful region.
Gary D — Google review
Pont Julien is a well-preserved Roman bridge in Provence, built around 3 BCE as part of the Via Domitia, a major Roman road connecting Italy and Spain. The bridge's three arches showcase impressive Roman engineering. However, the river beneath it has dried up, which detracts from its scenic charm. Despite this, the bridge's historical significance and architectural beauty make it a worthwhile visit for history enthusiasts, even if the absence of water lessens its overall appeal.
S J — Google review
What a great little stop, the bridge is worth exploring from above and below. Plenty of parking, WC available
S P — Google review
Great to see such an old bridge in such a well kept state. Worth a quick stop. The river bed is also worth admiring. (Assuming the river isn't flowing!)
Tony A — Google review
How can a 2000+ Roman made structure not be 5 stars??? This is a simple, and outstanding monument to the Romans. Used as a modern bridge until 2005 when someone finally wised up maybe it would be better to use a modern made bridge for vehicle traffic! The Pont Julien is impressive and beautiful!
Stefanie F — Google review
A bridge that has been used for two millennia! (There's a new road bridge but pedestrian and bicycle traffic still uses the Roman bridge.) Well worth stopping to see this.
Giles M — Google review
Hidden from through traffic on the D300 from Avignon to Apt, the Roman-era Pont Julien crosses the River Calavon. Nowadays no longer for motorized traffic, but part of the green Calavon cycle route, based on an old railway. Due to the wet spring, water actually flows through the bed of the Calavon in June this year.

Nestled in the scrubby hills just south of Bonnieux, Forêt des cèdres du Luberon is a stunning cedar forest that offers a refreshing escape from the summer heat. The forest features marked walkways and lookout points that provide breathtaking views of the fertile valley and the picturesque villages perched on the Luberon mountain. Visitors can explore various paths, including a wheelchair-accessible nature trail, and choose from different hiking routes based on difficulty levels.
Our favorite forest in the area, just great, we enjoy every time we go, you can spend the day, free parking.
Andreea N — Google review
Great trails to do with family with different difficulty levels. There's one that is wheelchair accessible too. Amazing vantage/view points.
Arup A — Google review
Perhaps there are other trails that are better. We took one that was marked. It was a pleasant hike with one nice view spot, which could have been much better marked. But overall nothing to "write home about" - rocky path, little diversity of trees, very few views, not much geographical diversity, and final peak view wasn't marked, but thankfully, we just made our own way to the top for a great view. It was my first hike in the Luberon area, but I'd be quite surprised if there aren't better ones around somewhere.
Beale O — Google review
Gorgeous forest of cedar and other trees atop a ridge of hills in Provence. There is a level series of trails through the magestic trees. Many parking spaces are also served by a few porta potties. The park can be driven or walked to from adjacent towns. The walks up and down are a little steep and stoney but beautiful and dramatic. Our walk from Bonnieux and back took about five hours.
Josh — Google review
Very nice park on top of a mountain surrounded by some other mountains. Halfway through, it feels like a walk on a jungle, and suddenly, you are on top with magnificent views. We tried yellow trail, took around 2 hours. You can also spend some calm time on the top with nature, may be meditate. Lots of parking space. Could not find any toilets or benches for picnic.
Kushant V — Google review
Gorgeous hike with beautiful views. Free to enter. Options for easy to more strenuous hikes. Wheelchair accessible hike option, as well

J’aime beaucoup. Last visit was over 30 years ago. I had this memory of lots of woods and trails and occasional views as far as the eye can see. Yup. It’s still the gorgeous same.

Château La Canorgue, located in Bonnieux, is a must-visit for fans of the movie 'A Good Year' by Peter Mayle. This beautiful chateau was featured in the film and is just as stunning in real life. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings at the chateau's wine shop and soak in the picturesque surroundings. The wines are delightful, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
Beautiful place with delightful wines and welcoming service. The setting is paradise and I can understand how it would have made an excellent choice for a movie. The wines are fantastic and the lady that helped us very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.
Walter M — Google review
So disappointed. My wife and I stopped by there today and the place said it was closing at 7 pm and we were there at around 5:30 pm. No one was there. No cars in the parking lot. We did not end up going in. We were going to take some pictures but then noticed this sign. They could have made this such an awesome place with maybe some tours or some pictures of the movie but it was totally disappointing. Not worth going at all. I understand that they want their privacy but did they really think it though when they decided to allow a movie to be filmed there???
Attila V — Google review
I would like to share impressions from our recent visit. Château La Canorgue was one of the must-see stops during our short journey through Provence. We knew from the very beginning that the estate was created with great passion and love, and we simply could not miss the chance to visit. We arrived early on a Monday morning and were the very first visitors. A gentleman (unfortunately we did not ask his name) kindly welcomed us and dedicated his time to us. He explained the different processes and nuances of winemaking, and guided us through a wonderful tasting, which led us to make some delightful purchases. We also had the chance to walk through the garden, which is beautiful, and when we were leaving, a shepherd dog accompanied us, making the experience even more memorable. We just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for your kindness and hospitality. Everything we bought safely made its way back with us to Estonia, and we are so happy to bring a piece of Provence home. Château La Canorgue is truly a magical place — we would be delighted to return to again and again. We wish you a successful harvest and continued prosperity. Ksenia and Tarmo

I never write bad reviews but our experience was bad. Pretty winery but cold and distant service that is not friendly or enticing to want to buy wine. It’s a pity because we were really looking forward to the experience as there were wine lovers in our group and we had all seen the movie A Good Year. Wine wasn’t great either but it could be that our taste buds were affected by the lack of enthusiasm shown by the person serving us.
Jonathan S — Google review
We stopped for a wine tasting. It seemed closed, but you have to ring a bell and someone will appear. We expected to have a sit and drink some wine, maybe bite to eat as well. We have tried two red wines and decided to buy one. It was 6 Euros. My wife told me that a film was made here, ".Good year", with Russell Crowe, Ridley Scott film. The setting was beautiful, but the presentation could be better. I guess that tourists have more enthusiasm so one should take advantage of that. If you offer a glass of wine for 20 Euros on the place where Russell Crowe had his wine, everyone would pay. However, the lady was sweet, offered us two different wines, they were out of stock for some wine and we bought one bottle cause we didn't have space in the luggage. We just enjoyed it in our room. I would recommend to the manager a wine tasting package, (4, 5 wines to taste 20, 30 Euros), maybe a cheese, two aside, couple of chairs in front, quick tour at the chateau, some angdote from the movie set, (people love stories, even if they are half true), or something like that. If it wasn't for the movie, no one would know about this place, so try to take advantage of that. Still the lady was nice to us, charming. We would spend more than our lousy 6 Euros , but didn't have the chance.
Vladimir G — Google review
The winery featured in Ridley Scott’s “A Good Year” is a delight to the eyes & your taste buds. The property is gorgeous & the extremely helpful staff will help you taste their delicious selections of red/white/rose.

NEIL B — Google review
My husband and I stopped here for a wine tasting during our four day stay in Gordes. We were lucky to have Pauline who spoke fluent English and helped us really understand the differences in wine in the Ventoux and Luberon region. She was welcoming, kind, patient and the visit here was a highlight. We purchased several boxes and bottles of wine, the quality is quality and the prices are very reasonable. A beautiful experience thank you!

Château de Mille, located 8.5 km north east of Bonnieux, is a historic winery dating back to the 13th century. The property has recently undergone renovations with great attention to detail and care, including the transition to organic farming under new ownership. Visitors can stay in one of the charming Gites and explore the beautifully restored grounds that include a 14th-century fort ruin once visited by Popes from Avignon.
A one of a kind experience! Great wines, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and absolutely gorgeous grounds. Once you pass the wooden barrel at the entrance and glide by the vineyard’s rolling hills , you’re greeted by a magnificent chateau steeped in history and surrounded by the stunning scenery of Provence. In addition to the wine tasting, I highly recommend doing one of the tours to learn more about the fascinating history of the place. A true gem! The perfect place to try some local wine and soak in the magic of the Luberon.
Kristy L — Google review
Just absolutely gorgeous! The wine was amazing, the owners so friendly, the staff knowledgeable and friendly and we loved our tour of the facility. Their interest in art and the preserving the beautiful history of the place only adds to the stunning quality of the wine. I wish I would have taken more pictures, but I was too busy enjoying! I'm having wine shipped home! There are some very special wines in the Luberon and this is a great place to experience them.

Visited with a party of 12 and had an incredible experience. The castle dates back to before BC with many new additions throughout the centuries. The wines and winery were a fantastic, definitely worth a visit!

Insanely beautiful grounds, a delightful winery built into a 14th century fort ruin that once hosted Popes from Avignon. The owners are lovely. There was a great little art exhibit when we visited and most importantly - terrific wines.

Björn L — Google review
Visiting Château de Mille was an unforgettable experience. The drive in alone is mesmerizing — winding through the vineyard with incredible views of the countryside. The integration of the modern winery into the beautifully preserved 13th-century castle is simply astonishing. We happened to stop in unannounced, and Pierre welcomed us like old friends. He explained the free self-guided tour of the grounds and castle, which was both fascinating and fun to explore. Afterwards, he treated us to a tasting of their most popular wines — from crisp whites to refreshing rosés to bold reds. Every wine was excellent; we ended up buying a case of six (we would have taken more if we weren’t flying back to the States!). Pierre is studying to build a career in the wine and spirits business, but he already conducts himself like a seasoned professional. We wish him the very best. If you’re in the region, Château de Mille is an absolute must-visit!

Nestled away from the bustling tourist spots, L'enclos Des Bories is a hidden gem that showcases an ancient settlement of dry stone structures. (Translated by Google) It is an enchanting place, very confidential. A somewhat rough but passable track leads there: take the road which goes to the cedar forest, then turn right. Very beautiful bories, there is even a double one, threshing floors, a surrounding wall...not forgetting the view of Bonnieux and Lacoste! Be very careful when entering and especially when leaving the bories, the lintels are treacherous (although we had been warned)! Good welcome. Bon accueil.

Rent Bike Luberon had initially planned to rent three hybrid bikes, but upon realizing that the uphill climb to Bonnieux would be too difficult for 70-year-olds to return the bikes after a 30-mile ride, they quickly accommodated a switch to Trek electric bikes at a competitive rate. During the trip, one of the group members experienced a serious puncture caused by a nail, resulting in large cuts on both the outer and inner tubes.
Great range of bikes and really helpful staff. They care about their bikes and their customers. My wife hired a decent Trek stepover e-bike and I hired a carbon road bike. The guys kindly fitted flat pedals with toe straps as I didn't have my cycling shoes packed. Had a lovely day exploring the hilltop villages. Food and drinks available every 10km or so at each village, so no need to carry much food or water (unless it's very hot weather). Top service and highly recommended. Also spoke good English which helps as my French speaking is terrible !

We rented a couple of e-bikes for a ride through some Luberon hill towns. The bikes were well maintained and we got panniers, helmets, and emergency maintenance kits included with the rental. The guys at the shop were a mixed bag - left us standing in the shop looking at them while they helped another customer and it was over five minutes before they even acknowledged that we were in the room. Also, they were blaring some pretty horrible music on the sound system the entire time. Once they got to us the experience was good. I asked for advice on the route I had planned based on some maps on their website and they confirmed that it was an appropriate route for us. I would knock off half of a star for the wait and shop music but that wasn’t enough to drop a full notch.

Great cycle hire shop. We rented a range of bikes, e-bikes and road bikes, and the guys in the shop were super helpful at all times, really excellent service and incredibly friendly. After the first hire we decided to hire again for a few days from this shop, despite knowing there were other bike shops much nearer to our accommodation. Fabien in particular went beyond the call of duty to assist us when one of our group had to change plans due to a medical issue, many thanks indeed for all of the help!

(Translated by Google) Hello to all of you. I had the pleasure of visiting the bakery museum in Bonnieux. But what a marvel. What a joy to have had the chance to know such a place!!! Everything is done to attract., Explain and teach an extraordinary world. We have the impression of living in all the eras mentioned and we are just completely caught up in this whirlwind of flour, of characters who were able to work and make bread appreciated!!! There is so much to say... I learned that it was going to close its doors even though it could accommodate children, people... The vocation can be born... And above all, learn, relearn, so many things that are unknown but which must continue. I sent an email petition to try to give him some hope of longevity. ...no response... That's life. Thanks to the lady at reception. Warm, smiling and eager to give the best information. I was delighted. My family too. Case to be continued. Goodbye and maybe see you soon.

Château de Lacoste, located on the edge of the village of Lourmarin, is a captivating blend of medieval and Renaissance architecture. The village itself boasts a rich history and charming cobbled streets, once home to the infamous Marquis de Sade. While the chateau may be closed for visits, its surroundings offer stunning views and intriguing artifacts related to Pierre Cardin. The restored castle has a tumultuous past but remains an impressive site with sculptures adorning its grounds.
Beautiful little village, with its long history and cobbled streets. Worth a stop to see where the infamous Marquis de Sade once resided. Steep climb up to the Chateau in the hot sunshine. (There is a road that leads to the chateau itself, we discovered once we climbed up) Unfortunately the place was closed but the views are beautiful.

Not a lot to see here. Some good views and picture opportunities but goto the Chateau at Les Baux instead.
Jim H — Google review
Read up on this, the REAL Chateau de Lacoste before you visit, such an interesting story, from the home of the Marquisbde Sade, to a ruin, then resurrected by a local, and then purchased by Pierre Cardin as the fashion center of the south. Now largely occupied by SCAD an American art school. Wow what a history! A fun place to visit for the day.

Beautiful part of Provence and not crowded as the coast. Villages are nice and each off them has it’s own charm. The only negative thing is that people rarely speak English... Price level for hotels is high, food is average and vine is cheap ;)

The art center Fondation Blachere is an excellent establishment and showcase. Its artistic creations are of the utmost quality, arguably unparalleled in the vicinity. A must-visit if one finds themselves in Apt. This center offers remarkable exhibits hailing from Senegal, which undergo regular changes throughout the year. These displays are vibrant, imaginative, and constructed using upcycled resources. There is an enchanting aura surrounding this destination that goes beyond ordinary expectations.
A must-visit! A neat little museum with changing exhibition of contemporary African art, just 5 minutes from the D900. Today was my fourth visit. The 5€ entry is a bargain. A small shop and cafe next door (see separate review). Pictures from various exhibitions.

Artist
Discovered this art gallery and artist Rahim a few years ago and recently purchased my third painting from him. The gallery offers reasonably priced original artworks that showcase an exquisite blend of form and color, along with a delightful assortment of affordable posters featuring Rahim's masterpieces. Rahim infuses his Persian flair into the luminous landscape paintings of Luberon, adding that distinctive touch of an exceptional artist. These captivating creations now adorn my home in Dublin as true focal points.
We happened upon this Gallery and artist Rahim a few years ago and this week bought our third painting by him. The gallery has reasonably priced original paintings with wonderful use of form and colour but also a nice selection of low cost posters of Rahim’s paintings. We think Rahim brings a Persian sensibility to the light and pallet of Luberon landscapes with that special touch of a great artist. The paintings have pride of place in our Dublin home. We have not met Rahim himself but his lovely wife Suzanne is a pleasure to deal with.
