The Ayuntamiento de Sos del Rey Católico is a stunning example of 16th-century Renaissance architecture, located in the heart of this charming medieval village. This three-story building houses official offices and proudly displays the town's coat of arms at its entrance. The upper level features an Aragonese palace style with a gallery adorned by arches, while inscriptions from the Old Testament grace its facade.
Nice cozy village, one of the #pueblosmasbonitosdeespaña . Walking on its narrow alleys you will now why it deserved this prize. Highly recommended to take a detour, even if it is not on your route plan, to spend some time wandering around it.

Quaint medieval village with magnificent stone palaces and narrow cobbled streets. It is famous for being the birthplace of king Ferndinad the Catholic of Aragon. There is a tourism office that will also give you brochures and information about the surrounding villages.

Located on the main street of Villa, Fernando el Catolico n 13, La Cocina del Principal occupies the former stables and cellar of a noble house from the 15th century. It was later known as the Casino Principal de Sos, from which it takes its name. The restaurant offers typical Aragonese cuisine based on local and seasonal products such as vegetables, legumes, game meats, and mushrooms.
Party of 3. Was a surprise find on our stopover at this town.. And it didn't diassapoint. Everything was fresh and tasty. Service followed our own pace. We loved it here. Highly recommended!

✨ An unforgettable dinner at La Cocina del Principal in the heart of Sos del Rey Católico 🇪🇸 We kicked off with perfectly crisp croquettes, followed by rich, melt-in-your-mouth foie gras, and their signature Firigolla—each bite celebrating local flavors and tradition. The stars of the night? A soul-warming lamb shank and incredibly tender lamb ribs, grilled to perfection. All beautifully paired with a glass (or two) of Tres Picos Garnacha. 🍷 From rustic charm to honest, local ingredients—this place is a gem. Highly recommend if you’re in Aragón! 🌿🍷🔥 #SosDelReyCatolico #LaCocinadelPrincipal #AragonEats #SpanishCuisine #FoodieTravel #LambLovers #GarnachaMoments

Churches & Cathedrals
The oldest section of the cathedral, known as Iglesia de San Esteban, can be traced back a millennium. This place holds significant historical value and is renowned for its association with King Ferdinand the Catholic and Queen Elizabeth of Castile, who played pivotal roles in shaping modern Spain. As a prominent landmark, the cathedral stands as a testament to the nation's rich history. Its architectural beauty is truly remarkable.
(Translated by Google) Beautiful Romanesque church, with Gothic and Renaissance parts at the foot of the remains of the castle, which hides in its crypt some wonderful Romanesque frescoes, which can only be visited if you do it with the guided tour (lasts 1.15 hours), which on the other hand is quite interesting. Cover that must have been fantastic in its day, but today is very deteriorated due to erosion. (Translated by Google) The church of San Esteban is in the highest part of Sos del Rey Católico, so if you want to get to it you must be willing to climb several slopes and steps. There, Fernando II of Aragon (Fernando the Catholic) was baptized and was born in the palace-house of Sada at the express wish of his mother, Mrs. Juana Enríquez, who wanted her son to be born in Aragon. The view from there is magnificent and you can even see the Pyrenees, on this occasion very snowy. The Torre del Homenaje del Castillo is a remarkable remnant of the historic castle in Sos del Rey Católico, originally constructed for defense using wood before being transformed into a stone structure by King Ramiro II of Aragon in the 12th century. To get there you have to leave the car outside the town (in 5 minutes or less you can get wherever you want) Walk through the town, pass the passage with Templar crosses, go out to the terrace of the church or climb the stairs to the top and see the views of the monastery. See how his shadow is drawn in the next field... Nestled in the charming town of Sos del Rey Católico, La Lonja is a historical gem that once served as a bustling medieval fish market. This stunning building not only showcases the rich history of the area but also reflects its significance during the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, which began attracting merchants and travelers in the late 11th century.
(Translated by Google) Beautiful building with a great history. The fact that Sos is located was sold by merchants. On the Camino de Santiago, starting at the end of the 11th century, as a result of the encouragement given by the church to pilgrimages, many improvements were made along the route, including bridges, hostels and hospitals. This flow of people crossing the place towards Santiago attracted a large number of merchants. The fish markets were established, which were wholesale sales centers, and the markets, where merchants sold what they bought or produced. This particular Lonja, of uncertain origin, predates the Town Hall and dates back to the Late Middle Ages. A wonder to enjoy. (Original) Hermoso edificio con una gran historia. The Judería de Uncastillo, dating back to the 12th century, showcases a rich tapestry of history woven by its Jewish community. This neighborhood was thoughtfully organized around a main thoroughfare called Carrera Mayor. However, following the expulsion in 1492, it was rebranded as Barrio Nuevo. Today, visitors can explore this fascinating area that reflects centuries of cultural heritage and transformation.
(Translated by Google) Starting in the 12th century, in Uncastillo, the Jewish community had its own neighborhood structured around a central axis known as the Carrera Mayor and renamed in 1492 as Barrio Nuevo after its expulsion. It is characterized by being less wide than the neighboring streets of the Christian neighborhoods and converges perpendicularly with narrow alleys, called callizos or gallizos, with or without exit, which serve various purposes such as drainage walkways, connection with the fortress or access to homes. . The neighborhood is a space endowed with a great personality, delimited by portals that were located at both ends of the street, to close the neighborhood when so ordered, as well as small lateral trenches at the forks that lead to the outside. The semicircular voussoir arch that leads to the Valero gallizo and the gaps where the doors were blocked at the southern end of Barrio Nuevo street remain to this day.

(Translated by Google) Perhaps the most beautiful door in Sos, through which, according to history, Queen Juan Enriquez entered Sos to give birth to her son Fernando (the Catholic). In addition, Sos has other simpler doors and a magnificent historic center.

(Translated by Google) It is worth taking a walk through the streets of the town. The only negative thing...is that both to access and leave the town, and take the national or highway there are bad roads.

The "Estatua a Luis García Berlanga" stands as a tribute to the renowned film director, celebrated for his work on "Las Vaquillas," which was filmed in the charming town of Sos del Rey Católico. This statue commemorates the 25th anniversary of the movie's production during the summer of 1985. The locals honor Berlanga for bringing attention to their historically rich yet often overlooked town, which is deeply rooted in Catholic Spain's heritage.
(Translated by Google) The town hall of Sos, and its inhabitants, pay tribute to the director of the film "Las vaquillas", filmed in this place, for making this tiny town known and recognized, with a history deeply rooted in the birth of Catholic Spain, but that with the passage of time, has been somewhat forgotten. Which is not so bad, perhaps, because mass tourism is not always beneficial for the preservation of heritage records.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful town by day. Very dead in the late night. And above all, we didn't know how to choose a place to stay. Museum spa. Place not to return. Beautiful photos... but it was the only thing. Nothing to do with the reality of service. (Original) Pueblo bonito de día. Muy muerto en la tarde noche.
