My favorite beach in the area. Never too crowded. Great for kids at low tide and some pretty decent waves when the swell is on.
Geoff C — Google review
When the tide too low for the long sandy beach of the La Baule's bay, this is the perfect not too rocky beach to hit and have a good time. Family and water sports friendly.

Perfect for letting go, especially when you don't know if you'll make it out

Grand Blockhaus is a must-visit for history enthusiasts, especially those interested in WWII. The museum provides locally relevant information about the experiences of French and German soldiers and civilians during the war. Visitors can request printed translations at the ticket desk, and English-speaking staff are available to assist. The site offers stunning coastal views, with wind turbines visible from outside the bunker. The curator's expertise and dedication to historic preservation are evident in the well-curated displays within this original coastal command and control bunker.
If you are interested in WW2 history the Grand Blockhaus and its museum is quite an impressive sight to explore. Our visit was made even more informative by the excellent guide book and the friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide - even in fluent German - great job Sir, well done. The museum features a vast array of relevant objects on display most of them provided by private individuals - a big thank you to all contributors. From my point of view a lot of love for details went into the different displays which provided me quite an emotional experience. Looking forward to visit also the other museums of that private group. Five stars from me and a clear recommendation. Oliver S.

Great place to learn about WWII in the region. There is an activity for the kids that takes you around the whole display. There are lots of videos and testimonies that help you better understand what happened there. Great display of memorabilia and great information. I recommend highly taking a trip there.
Julie W — Google review
A perfect place to visit if you enjoy military history from WWII. Lots of locally relevant information telling the stories of both French and German soldiers and civilians. There are printed translations of the main information - just ask at the tickets desk, and the staff both spoke English if required. Top tip: walk around the outside of the bunker to see the stunning views of the coastline - with wind turbines out to sea. The gift shop has lots of interesting military souvenirs and local produce.
Annette K — Google review
A nice stop over while on the coastal trek to learn more about WWII’s footprint in Brittany. Worthwhile visiting if you are already in the area.
Andrew K — Google review
Fantastic little museum. We rode past and decided to stop to have a look round, it turned out to be our favourite museum of our trip to France. Would recommend to those both new to and knowledgeable on WW2. Great information about the Saint Nazaire pocket, and also full of highly interesting individual war stories.
Alex A — Google review
Visited as part of a Leger Battlefield tour on 08/10/2025. Luc the owner met us and guided us in and around the Grand blockhouse. His detailed knowledge and enthusiasm for all things WW2 is obvious. Inside there are huge amounts of related items on display many, many truely eunique artefacts and each with a personal story which Luc is happy to retell. A great visit with an excellent range of information and books available on the Atlantic wall, including English versions. The owner also been the author of some.

Great visit of the blockhaus with a kid mission. You will learn a lot about the life in the blockhaus and the regional history. Lots of facts, historical objects, testimonies.
Audrey C — Google review
One of the very best thought out and executed upon small war museums in the entire world. The curator is a gentleman and scholar who has published numerous books and genuinely cares for historic preservation. You could not ask to see a more interesting series of displays immaculately curated in an original coastal command and control bunker. Simply amazing for any enthisiast of WWII Atlantic Wall history.

Chapel
Notre-Dame-du-Mûrier is an ancient Breton chapel with well-preserved ruins that offer a glimpse into its past, including a sculpture of a dragon made from milk cans. The chapel was destroyed by a tornado, but the remaining ruins still exude beauty and history. While it's not possible to access the interior, the site offers a fantastic and cinematic atmosphere.
Felt instantly warped to the Church of Elleh! You should visit, tarnished!

(Translated by Google) A very beautiful, romantic, Breton chapel. Only the outer walls and vaulted arches remain; the rest fell victim to a hurricane and looting. But the ruinous aspect is what makes it so special. It has a morbid charm and makes for great photo opportunities. The interior is generally off-limits—but that's okay; you can see everything clearly from the outside. I highly recommend investing €3 and climbing the steeple of the neighboring church. From the top, you'll have a magnificent view of Notre-Dame-du-Mûrier, as well as the town and the sea.

(Translated by Google) A stone's throw from the Church of St. Guénolé stand the spectacular remains of an ancient Breton chapel. You can walk around the ruined building to admire its architecture. However, access is restricted. There's a sort of photo exhibition on display that can be seen from afar, which somewhat spoils the mysterious and romantic atmosphere of the place. An explanatory panel tells the story of the chapel, built following a plague epidemic. We learn that the roof was torn off by a tornado, and the building remained in ruins.

(Translated by Google) Batz-sur-Mer is an essential place to visit if you are passing through or local with this magnificent little marina whatever the weather. Numerous rocks crisscrossing the walk on the coastal path with beautiful holiday homes which have their charms and a small café to stop to eat or drink. It reminds me of Saint-Malo with this dike and the little ramparts to separate the bank, the water is rather clear and during sunny summer periods it's a really pretty little spot, I think. Beach
Nestled in the picturesque Batz-sur-Mer, Plage Valentin is a delightful local beach that beckons both boaters and surfers alike. Spanning an impressive 740 meters of soft golden sand, this expansive shoreline is perfect for sunbathing, swimming, or simply unwinding by the sea. The beach was named after Monsieur Killian, affectionately known as Valentin, who established it as a small bathing therapy resort that quickly gained popularity.
Excellent spot. You can go in the water without stepping on rocks. It's supervised. Many access. A neat spot.
Nina S — Google review
This is a lovely beach. Small but perfectly formed. One small cafe, a lifeguard station and a couple of toilets but what it lacks in glamour it makes for in acres of sand. This seems to be one of those secret places that the French tend to keep for themselves. Quiet in the morning and early afternoon. Can get busy around 4pm as the locals come down. There is also plenty of free parking. The sea is calm enough for swimming and paddle boards but as the tide comes in there are waves fir during and body boards. It is our sons (14) new favourite beach.

(Translated by Google) Valentin Beach was the end point of our oceanfront walk, which began at Port St. Michel. The beach itself is very large: we were spoiled for choice when it came to finding a spot to put our things and towels on this vast stretch of sand. It's not the kind of beach where you feel close to each other. Unfortunately, the water was too cold and choppy due to the wind for me to swim. I only managed to wet my toes and walk in the water.

(Translated by Google) Very interesting visit to a saltworks with our enthusiastic guide. You will discover the customs and traditions of the salt workers and their tools, including the las; this long tool is used to collect salt. The latter is light for its size but it is unbalanced, its entire mass being located opposite to where the salt worker is carrying it. Thus, it is a fool who would deny that the las is heavy, alas, and that any superhuman strength required to handle it is much less needed to throw the madman into the pond! More fear than harm, although the guide was not short of salt... The Marais salants, located in Batz-sur-Mer, is a captivating destination steeped in history and natural beauty. This area has been producing salt for over two millennia, with its origins tracing back to the Gauls. The Gallo-Romans refined the salt production techniques, which were later enhanced by Benedictine monks from the Abbey of Saint-Sauveur de Redon.

(Translated by Google) Buy your salt directly from the salt marshes! Top-notch quality and small producers are fairly paid. Salt is really reasonably priced! We loved it.

It was a beautiful experience, very friendly welcome with English/ French speaking staff. The entrance fee is very cheap compared to the amount of information and fun ( for knowledge lovers) that can be experienced inside the museum. We noticed that there is even a fun activity for kids to help them discover the museum better and there is a book in English for those who need further information about the items in the museum. Visiting the museum made Visiting the actual salt marshes afterwards, easier to understand and much more interesting and appreciative to the amount of work the Salters do to provide the world with our tables' beautiful white beast Mr.Salt! For the time being there is an exposition The Salt of the Incas exhibition which highlights the salt-producing site of Maras in Peru. Highly recommended!

Interesting museum on the history of the salt industry in the region. Worth visiting!
Peter S — Google review
Great museum for an amazing low price. It's not just about salt, it's the whole history of the region. A visit that can be surprisingly long (2 hours) if you take the time to read everything.
Gregory D — Google review
Excellent exhibition about the history of salt in the region, covering the mining, trade, taxation and the people who lived in and around the sector.

Situated midway between St. Nazaire and Le Croisic, there lies a charming French village that is definitely worth a visit. At the heart of this authentic location stands the magnificent Saint-Guénolé Church of Batz-sur-Mer, an exquisite catholic church that captures the essence of elegance and tranquility. Its grandeur and architectural beauty make it an exceptional sight to behold, particularly when basked in the warm rays of sunshine.
Half way between St. Nazaire and Le Croisic. Worth a stop in this authentic French village.

(Translated by Google) A superb view from the top, spanning the marshes, the coast, and the town of Batz! The climb is definitely worth it. Be careful, however, on the stairs, especially with young children. But once at the top, the panorama is worth the detour. Thank you to the volunteers who keep this place alive!

(Translated by Google) I fell in love with this charming little town of Batz-sur-Mer. The lantern tower of the Saint Guénolé church is the town's iconic monument. It's visible from far away. Once you reach the top, you can't help but be dazzled by the 360° panorama that unfolds before you: the ocean as far as the eye can see, the Croisic Peninsula, and the Guérande salt marshes. The interior of the church is also worth a look. The stained-glass windows are magnificent. My friend pointed out the slight deviation of the choir.
