Fort National is a 17th-century granite fortress located on an outcrop that can only be accessed at low tide. Guided tours are available for visitors to explore this historic site. The fort is part of a range of popular sightseeing attractions and activities in the area, including Saint Malo, Grand Aquarium, St Vincent Cathedral, and beaches. Visitors can also experience local culture, dine at great restaurants, find budget-friendly accommodations, and enjoy shopping and nightlife options nearby.
Came during low tide in winter and it was truly spectacular even during this time of the year. It’s even better when you don’t have to fight the crowds during the most favored times of the year. Definitely worth your time to visit, but check the local tide schedule if you wish to walk along the beautiful stretch of beach here.
Jonathan L — Google review
Fantastic with great views. Definitely worth a visit at low tide, it is open when the flag is up. It costs €5 to access the fort, cash only is accepted
Stuart — Google review
When I arrived at the gate it was €5 and they accepted only cash so I wasn’t able to go in. Views from the gate looking back to the city are stunning and well worth the walk over.
Louise R — Google review
It’s opened only from June to September for visits. But it’s placed beautifully in the middle of the sea and reachable only on low tides.
Florin D — Google review
If the France flag is on the castle means it’s open to public to visit. However even visit the beach is fun.
Hao Y — Google review
On the Michelin scale, it would be ⭐️, worth stopping in if you’re around, I would not make a dedicated trip just for this. Saint Malo is very nice though.
Mike L — Google review
Very nice castle on the bay. You can walking to the castle only when there is low tide. This is an ancient guard castle to defense the city from sea attack, so there are cannons inside. There is a large grass for resting, it's also beautiful for child who want to run. In the sunny days is a very spectacular place for taking pictures. It's important so pay attention at the tides, if you don't want wet your shoes..
Sergio — Google review
I went there at 3:30 on a Friday at low tide and it was closed, even though in the picture I took, you can see people inside. I’m not sure why they can get in and I can’t. Not good. Also, the hours on Google say it’s open. Too bad they don’t update it when they’re closed. I went to the office of tourism and she said that is closed for the next three days, but she didn’t know why. I found out why it was closed for three days because it was due to a wedding. I guess rich people have priority over the regular people. Also, it says to look for a French flag to see if it’s opened, but they fly a Britain flag along with the blue flag to confuse you. Luckily I was able to go back another day and their website said it was opened and when I got there they said I could tour it for 30 minutes. About five minutes later, they told me I had to leave even though the tide had not blocked the away.

Aquarium
Nature & Parks
The Grand Aquarium Saint Malo offers a modern indoor experience with close encounters with sharks, mini-sub rides, and pirate exhibits. It is one of the best sightseeing attractions in the area, providing fun activities for visitors to explore. In addition to the aquarium, there are numerous other attractions nearby such as historical sites, museums, and natural landmarks. Visitors can also find information about local culture, dining options, budget-friendly accommodations, shopping areas, nightlife spots and relaxation opportunities in the vicinity.
Wonderful place! It would make a great afternoon visit with kids or even to go on a date. Not much in English but it's fun and interesting.
Maureen E — Google review
Very nice aquarium, not only regular fish, but also a variety of more obscure, more interesting fish. The ride at the end is very entertaining and creative. Beware of loud children though, they’re not just shark bait unfortunately…
Julian K — Google review
Visiting from the UK arrived on the morning ferry with hours till accommodation check in.. Called in here to the Grand Aquarium.. Wow.. a great couple of hours spent with the Fish.. Well laid out, a great family visit.. The Nautibus tres Magnific.
Simon P — Google review
A visit for the kids who love their fish and other sea animals after a walk round the old town of Saint Malo. Lots of parking, some under cover so the car isnt too baking when you return to it. Entrance fee was reasonable for family of 4, less than UK Seaworlds. The signs were electronic and helpfully cycled through each animal in each tank in French and English, more informative than lots of tired UK Seaworld signs. Lots of different sea creatures to see, including turtles in the main tank and spider crabs, a nice flow to the different sections, and a surprise at the end, a simulation of a visit to an underwater station and submarine ride. Quite slow moving queue (whole thing probably took an hour) in a confined area, the videos along the way are all in French, and the sub ride itself is arguably more exciting than what you can see outside of the sub, but a welcome addition to end the visit on that a UK place would make you pay extra for. Worth a visit, rain or shine.
Chris W — Google review
Really lovely trip out. I think the price was reasonable considering it is similar to prices back in England and that doesn't even include a fantastic submarine ride, like here at the Grand Aquarium. Fantastic selection of fish, crustaceans and turtles to see, some I've never seen before. Lovely clean glass on the aquariums. Huge multiple touch pool area with sharks, rays, fish and crabs to touch. Animal welfare seems really good here too. Throughly enjoyed ourselves. The only thing I think they could improve on is having english subs or dub on some of the videos, so we can understand a little better. We entered at 12 noon and there was no queue, no rush to enter as open until 7pm. Spent a few hours walking around and then went on to Dinard close by for a seaside walk.
Kirsty P — Google review
Excellent experience. Very good aquatic husbandry. I really enjoyed the behind the scenes tour.
Jimretr0 — Google review
Good - but really was busy! Busier than when we went to the larger one in Paris but great fun. The sub ride at the end is good fun and not to be missed!

An amazing aquarium with overcrowding problems. As a wheelchair user I struggled to see the exhibits as people clambered in front of me to press themselves against the glass.

Saint-Vincent Cathedral of Saint-Malo is a stunning architectural marvel that showcases Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance styles. The cathedral's interior is adorned with exquisite stained glass windows depicting the city's rich history. Visitors to Saint-Malo can explore a myriad of attractions and activities such as the Grand Aquarium, Mémorial 39-45, Jacques Cartier Manor House, and the beautiful beaches.
Beautiful Cathedral. It was a warm day outside and I couldn't believe how warm it was inside due to all of the burning candles! Peaceful place with interesting religious artwork. Free entry but donations appreciated. You can however donate for a candle.

My wife and I were fortunate to visit on the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker and attend Mass. It was a beautiful and reverent liturgy. The church is also visibly stunning and filled with history.

Marvellous Holy Cathedral Fantastic historical Cathedral in the town centre of Saint-Malo. This is obviously the heart of the city. The building is very grand and beautiful. We really enjoyed the architecture but also the feel we had inside the building. Felt very relaxing. Highly recommended to step inside.
Paul V — Google review
This Cathedrak is fantastic . Inside thanks to the beautiful stained glass windows, you are treated to one of the best light shows going . The skill involved in achieving this is immense, unfortunately my skills at photography are lacking and my photos below par . Oh well you will just have to visit yourself and give your eyes a treat . I almost forgot this is just one cathedral on the Tro Breizh (tour of Brittany) linking the towns of the seven founding saints of Brittany . So get your walking boots on I am half way around .
Heimdal O — Google review
This lovely cathedral in the centre of Saint Malo is completely free to enter. It has a lovely peaceful atmosphere, beautiful stained glass windows, a large organ at the back. It's a wonderful place to head into for a calm and quiet break from the busy tourist streets of Intra Muros, or to get away from the weather, whether rain or sunshine!
Josh W — Google review
Amazing Cathedral, beautifull side altars and a little shop with rosaries, postcards and medals. The main altar however is very strange looking, and dispenses an almost pagan atmosphere, wich is of course, very unfortunate.

Les Remparts de Saint-Malo, also known as the walls of Saint-Malo, are a historic and picturesque feature of this coastal town. Built between the 12th and 18th centuries to protect the town from invasions and pirate attacks, these mighty walls played a crucial role during World War II. Walking along the 2 km stretch of ramparts offers stunning views of the old city and the English Channel.
Walking here is a fantastic experience, allowing you to observe the beautiful sea. At sunset, the walls transform into a dreamlike landscape.

Not completely overrun so far! Gives you a great understanding of old town structures and has a super nice flair! Just beat the crowd and be early there to get one of the parking spots outside of the city center.

No tickets necessary. Just over a mile to walk round. Steps up to the top of the ramparts. Beautiful views of the town and sea

Historical & Landmark Saint-Malo walls This is a great place to come and visit. It is free of charge, so all you have to do is find one of the staircases leading you to the walkway the wardens & guards would have taken to check if the enemy was not coming ;) This is also a fantastic viewpoint and it is really good to start your visit of SM here as it does give you a perspective of the whole city somehow (obviously talking here about the intramuros part). The views were great & the walk is fantastic specially on a good day. Highly recommended!
Paul V — Google review

Fantastic place to visit for it's amazing views, shopping and restaurants. Places for a dip in the sea if you are brave enough if the weather is good. Boat trips available

Demeure de Corsaire is a historical mansion and museum located near Le Grand Hotel Des Thermes in Saint-Malo, France. Built in 1725, this imposing mansion offers guided tours in French, allowing visitors to step back in time to 18th-century Brittany and explore the elegant interior with historic furnishings, including wrought iron banisters, open fireplaces, and sumptuous bedrooms. The museum also features a terrace with stunning views of the old town.
Amazing mansion that brings you back to the 17th century. It was an amazing visit with a very good tour guide that knew a lot of the history of the mansion and the history of Saint Malo.
Hugo G — Google review
I anticipated that the tour would not be accessible to non French speakers but I was not prepared for a whole hour just spent in 3 rooms - I was very disappointed not to see more than the ground floor (rather than the 56 rooms advertised) but I couldnt stand up any longer ! My feeling was that the lengthy (interminable) explanations were (way) too long even for French speakers. Sadly I left after an hour - my choice ! Just couldn’t take any more …. Re bathroom - no toilet paper and basin sink bin overflowing with yesterday’s used towels. Madame was 10 mins late opening up so maybe they had a problem 🤷🏻‍♀️ if you don’t speak French I would say don’t go - this is a real pity as I didn’t lack interest or realise the rarity of the maison.

Disappointing Tour for Non-French Speaking Tourists Review: I was very excited to visit the "Demeure de Corsaire" in Saint-Malo because of my great interest in the history of privateers. Unfortunately, the tour was a huge disappointment. Firstly: The entire tour is exclusively in French. There are no indications that other languages are not supported. As a tourist, you feel misled when you only find out upon entering the museum that you won’t understand anything if you don’t speak French. Secondly: There is no information or warning that the tour is only in French before you purchase the tickets. Given the rather high ticket prices, I would have at least expected an audio guide or a written summary in English. Instead, you end up stuck with expensive tickets without being able to enjoy even a fraction of the tour's value. Thirdly: When I brought this up with the staff, I was brushed off in a very unfriendly and arrogant manner. There was no willingness to help or provide alternative solutions to make at least part of the experience comprehensible. I cannot recommend this museum if you do not speak French. It is really a shame that such a historically significant place is not better suited to international visitors. Saint-Malo has many other attractions that are much more welcoming. Avoid the "Demeure de Corsaire" if you are planning a pleasant and informative visit.
Leonard L — Google review
It's a nice, historic house but it's inhabited and so it cannot be visited in its entirety. It was an okayish experience but would not repeat it. The owner is either a historian or very passionate about (local) history and takes tourists around the house, providing details about French corsairs and their sea interactions with the English and the Spanish. He doesn't like to be contradicted or challenged.
Andreea S — Google review
All visits are guided and in French only. Much of it concerns the history of the corsairs.
James K — Google review
Excellent visit with a well informed, funny, entertaining, engaging and patient guide who made history come to life by telling us surprising stories, enacting scenes and revealing secrets of times gone by + answering lots of questions and giving plenty of explanations and details. Despite the house itself and displays being limited to several rooms, the visit was made memorable and enriching; the corsairs suddenly seemed approachable and their adventures intertwined with day to day life, were described with insightful and rich historical background. The rise and fall and rise again of the town of Saint Malo makes for a fascinating story. A very enjoyable visit (in French) that I would highly recommend.

(Translated by Google) The construction of the castle was ordered by Duke John V of Brittany in 1424. Only the "Small Keep" and the western curtain wall are earlier: they date from the 14th century. Built between the 15th and 18th centuries, this proud castle has been listed as a historic monument since July 1886. During the reign of Louis XIV, Vauban carried out alterations and had the two buildings built along the north and east walls in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. He also reinforced the Bastion de la Galère, shaped like a ship's prow, at the far east. In the Great Keep, there is access to a very interesting museum, the "Museum of the History of the City and the Pays Malouin". Saint-Malo Town Hall and municipal services are housed in the barracks added by Vauban. (Original) La construction du château a été décidée par le duc Jean V de Bretagne en 1424. They can be seen from the castle wall and even visited at low tide. The town itself was founded as a settlement around the 1st century AD. It was destroyed many times, especially during World War II. The town has many cafes serving traditional Brittany crepes. It's a truly memorable experience, especially when you delve into the history of the town and its people. Grande Plage du Sillon, situated in the northern region of Brittany near Saint-Malo, is a popular city beach known for its long stretch of sandy shores and views of the historic Fort National. The area boasts a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages when it served as a refuge for pirates. This beloved resort destination offers visitors an expansive golden coastline, clear waters ideal for swimming, and a family-friendly atmosphere. Additionally, it provides stunning vistas of the walled city and surrounding islands.
Douce France où la mer qu'on voit danser:) It's really a wonderful place, unique, but also one of many beautiful places in northern France. There is this certain vibe there, this sort of wild, sauvage feel to these places. Maybe it's a feeling of freedom, or the incredible history that is preserved by the marvelous architecture?

At 3 km long, it is the largest sandy beach in Saint-Malo. The dike was built from 1883 to 1913 on an old sandy beach. With a length of 1671 meters, it runs along the Grande plage lined with numerous villas built at the end of the 19th century. Along the Sillon, a line of breakwaters protects the dike from the force of the waves. Built at the beginning of the 19th century, the oaken breakwaters have a depth at least equal to or even greater than their visible height.

Grande Plage du Sillon is the largest beach and was voted the most beautiful beach in France in 2018. It stretches over three kilometers of fine sand and connects two neighborhoods of the city - Intra-Muros and Parame. During high tide, the beach completely disappears, and during low tide, it becomes a very wide beach.

The Jacques Cartier Museum, located in the Manoir de Limoelou, is a unique legacy of the famous French explorer. This museum offers a glimpse into Cartier's life and history, showcasing his summer residence with period furniture and rooms that serve the same functions as they did during his time. Visitors can join guided tours to learn about Cartier's exploration of eastern Canada and see some of the navigation instruments he used.
Great visit. We learned a lot not just about Cartier but about navigation. We loved all the explanations and anecdotes.

A 25 minute walk inland from bus stop. Long even road. Nice walk. Visit includes a short video and guided tour. Museum really well put together. Lasted 1 hour. I had contacted them before arriving and they had a guide who spoke English to show us 2 around. It was lovely. Worth going to.

Great Place to visit for Canadians, but also the others Lots of activities for kids while you are waiting for a guided tour (or after).

Interesting museum for people who are interested in French Canada’s history. The museum is very small and doesn’t have much stuff but it is staffed by helpful young people.

We really enjoyed this very interesting visit. The guide was clearly passionate and knowledgeable about Jacques Cartier, the history of navigation and Saint Malo. The gift store has lovely things, sold at a reasonable price. Attn: you must deserve to visit.

Excellent guided tour of just over an hour. Interesting history of the man who discovered Canada, how they used to live in those days and also how they counted time & navigated before clocks & GPS were invented.

Cannot leave a review as we had no chance to enter. You have to travel very far to see it. On google the time table is not added, the website is outdated, on the booklet one information is written and in reality we were told that they have a lunch break and museum is closed and that we can go inside only with the tour guide and it is only in the certain hours.

Grand Bé is a rocky island near Saint-Malo that can be reached on foot during low tide. It features the remnants of an old fort strategically designed by French architect Vaubun and the tomb of Francois Rene de Chateaubriand, a prominent figure in French romanticism. The island also played a role in World War II, serving as a location for German gun emplacements before being quickly liberated by American forces.
Fascinating place to visit. Beautiful views back to Sant Malo. Great walk.

Good hotel located in the heart of the walled city of St Malo. Stylish decor, in all areas, public areas, rooms and hallways, seperates this from comparably priced hotels. High end restaurant and Spa facilities available. Limited parking is available for those brave enough to tackle the maze of cobbled streets. Recommend booking parking in advance especially if your vehicle can't fit in the underground parking.

Awesome view ! The road is hidden half the day, for us it became possible to go there a bit after 18h00. After a bit of a walk and a small sandstorm we were greeted with an unforgettable view. Snapped some really cool photos, should be fun for photography enthusiasts!

It's a majical place to visit. Crystal clear water surrounding the area during high tide. You can walk out to the fort in low tide, although it's not open to the public. The walk itself is spectacular

Gran Bé is a tidal island, at low tide you can reach the island on foot from the nearby beach of Bon-Secours. On the island you will find the remains of an old fort. The site was reused by Vauban in 1689 for the defense of Saint-Malo. And during the Second World War, the Germans reused the island by installing a heavy naval battery there (antiaircraft and anti-tank cannons, as well as two searchlights) which led to it being heavily bombed by the North Americans.
Natalie D — Google review
We waited for the tide to go out far enough to allow us to cross the causeway and spent some quality time looking at pebbles and stones

Solidor Tower, located in Saint-Malo, France, is a 14th-century dungeon with three towers offering striking coastal views. It stands as a symbol of the city's maritime heritage and houses a museum that delves into Saint-Malo's seafaring past. The tower also features a parish church that hosts cultural events and shares historical collections with St. Malo Castle.
A nice place to visit. There are even benches on one side for you to sit and enjoy the view.
Janet L — Google review
There is a trail you can take before the tower, under the arches and off to the right. If you walk out there it takes you to the bay with a beautiful view. Would highly recommend

Fantastic building, set on this stunning bay. We parked our Motorhome just in the carpark next to it, spent several hours just looking around, taking a coffee and spending sometime on the beach at the bay. So peaceful,

This place is closed. You can see the outside from the street and it looks pretty nice, but the front gate is locked and the information kiosk just has a bit of local history... No hours of opening because it isn't open to the public. Weeds growing inside, so it probably hasn't been open for years.

Beautiful beach with an incredible natural pool that allows for swimming even with low tide. Very nice views both of the sea and the city. Would highly recommend visiting even if it’s too cold to swim, as it provides a great view. We visited nearing the end of August and had a great time!

Due to the changes in the tides, especially when the sea recedes many meters, Rene Lesaunier had the idea of building a seawater pool, thus allowing his guests to swim all day long. The pool was built during the year 1937.

Petit Be Fort is a historic gem located on a small tidal island outside the walls of Saint-Malo in Brittany. Dating back to 1689, this Vauban-designed fort offers visitors a glimpse into its well-preserved architecture and houses an exhibition on tides and cannons. Accessible by foot or boat depending on the tide, it's essential to check the tide schedule before visiting. The fort provides stunning views of St.
We didn't actually go inside the Fort (there is a charge to enter) but we wanted to walk up to it as not often have the chance to go on a tidal causeway! Fortunately the tide was out and it was worth visiting the island for the views.
Elizabeth B — Google review
A beautiful fort on the smaller island. This is a tidal island so when the tide is low, one can walk to it. Unfortunately the fort wasn't open when we were there but the views from the island are magnificent. Make sure you look back to the walled city when walking to the island.
C N — Google review
At the end of the 17th century, maritime warfare between the French, English and Dutch wreaked havoc. In the heart of this economic and military battle, Saint-Malo was on the way to become the main port of France. So it became urgent to defend the famous corsair city whose strategic position was of first importance. For this purpose, Louis XIV commissioned the architect Vauban to implement a military defense. Vauban created an ambitious defense system that perfectly integrated the geography of the coasts and possible maritime attacks. At the heart of this system of fortifications is the Petit Bé. A flag is raised to indicate that the fort is open to the public.
Natalie D — Google review
The walking path to this fort is easy once you have low tide. Just make sure to check the opening timing sometimes they change the opening hours.

The visit of L’Etoile du Roy was an extraordinary experience, not only exciting but also incredibly educational. The ship's historic atmosphere, paired with detailed insights into maritime life and seafaring made the stay (round about 1h) truly special. The "crew" (espacially Jorge, Marie and Emerick - many thanks to the warm welcome abord and the kind words to the three of you) was friendly and knowledgeable, and it's clear how much dedication goes into preserving and presenting this floating piece of history. I brought me 16-year-old lad to Saint-Malo for some father-son bonding, and what better way to do it than aboard a full-sized, honest-to-Neptune pirate ship! L’Étoile du Roi—“The King's Star” they call it, but I be thinkin’ she’s more like “The Black Pearl's Well-Mannered Cousin.” She’s a grand vessel, all ropes and cannons and enough timber to make a Viking weep. As soon as we set foot on deck, me son turned into Jack Sparrow and I became Captain Dad-beard. I even attempted a pirate accent, which made him pretend not to know me. A proud parenting moment. We climbed the rigging (with our eyes, not our limbs—insurance doesn’t cover spontaneous swashbuckling), explored the captain’s quarters, and gazed wistfully at the cannons wondering if we could fire just one. (Spoiler: ye may not.) The crew—museum staff dressed like landlubbers but friendly enough—answered our questions without even once making us walk the plank for our dad jokes. They told tales of naval battles, the corsairs of Saint-Malo, and the general hygiene conditions of the 18th century, which convinced my son that he would’ve lasted about six minutes in the real pirate era. “No Wi-Fi and dysentery? I’m out.” The ship be a beauty, restored with care and polished until ye can see your reflection and regret that second croissant. In short: if ye find yerself in Saint-Malo with a teen who needs a break from TikTok and ye long for the sea breeze in yer face and the faint aroma of historical wood polish in yer nostrils, L’Étoile du Roi is the place. Avast ye boredom! Bring a hat, bring a sense of adventure, and prepare to call everyone “matey” until they ask you—politely but firmly—to stop. Cézembre is a small inhabited island with a rocky coast and a sandy beach, making it an ideal destination for relaxation. Visitors can enjoy the cozy atmosphere of the island's bar, featuring luxurious materials like old oak parquet and leather club chairs while sipping on cocktails or herbal teas. The island also played a significant role in history, with its artillery aiding in the defense against German forces during World War II.
A rather unique island of the Saint-Malo coast. Its beach is south oriented (very rare for Brittany) and protected from the north winds, which makes it feel warmer than any beach in the area, it has almost Côte d'Azur feel in good weather. There is a restaurant on the island, but reservation is a must, they will turn you away otherwise.

(Translated by Google) Today, September 7, 2025, we came to this island that had been recommended to us. Here's my take: I suppose that in summer, the beach facing the coast is pleasant in good weather, but must certainly be crowded! I didn't have that experience because the weather was overcast and windy. I also suppose that the island's restaurants are of good quality, as they are popular with Parisians, today being Sunday, who only come for that. We weren't lucky enough to get a seat. That said, it might not be a big deal because having lunch around these pretentious people, which is a pleonasm, who each in turn go to relieve themselves behind the restaurant buildings, isn't necessarily my favorite thing. If you like shell holes, destroyed bunkers, and rusty artillery pieces, this island is for you! You'll have completed the authorized route in 15 minutes, taking your time, and then it's over. Aside from the beach, there's the view of Saint-Malo, Dinars, and the start of the Estuary of the Race; the trip is largely unnecessary. There are so many other places much prettier and much more interesting that I regret having wasted my day here. Have a good vacation! Bonnes vacances

Rest and relaxation on the sand of the warmest beach in the region, the only one facing south. Quietly contemplate the beauty of the Emerald Coast from the sea. Enjoy relaxing and swimming. In August 1944, the granite island, solidly fortified by the German army as part of the Atlantic Wall and the Saint-Malo Fortress, was intensely shelled for almost a month by Allied bombers who used it for one of the first times in Europe napalm bombs. More than 20,000 bombs will be dropped. The island did not surrender until September 2 due to lack of water. The surviving German soldiers who resisted this hell were saluted militarily by the American officers taking a foothold on the island. Due to these bombings, the island has rare vegetation and rugged terrain. There are more than 2,000 bomb craters there. It is still not completely cleared of mines and access to most of it in the northern zone is prohibited. The southern area with the beach and since this year a path to the west of the island are accessible.

Nestled in the historic city of Saint-Malo, the Micro Zoo offers a delightful escape into the world of biodiversity. This charming attraction showcases over 130 species of animals from across the globe, making it an ideal family outing. As you wander through this captivating space, you'll encounter around 350 living creatures and even get to marvel at a fascinating colony of 40,000 ants! It's a perfect way to spend time with your kids while learning about wildlife.
Great activity for small children. Lots of good animal enclosures and benches for small children to get a good view. Highly recommend on a rainy day or a hot afternoon.

I really enjoyed this little zoo! It is in a historical building, very authentically organized terrariums and is a big refreshment to go there while visiting St Malo. Thank you Nature Fairy for directing me there, had a great time!
Zoltán L — Google review
Definitely worth a visit!! The animals are in a good environment and partly rescued from bad living conditions in private collections, so you also support a good cause. Very diverse zoo with fish, amphibians, spiders, reptiles, birds and the highlight: the most adorable little sugar gliders and a king quail!!!
Jade M — Google review
An unusual small zoo inside the walls of the old city. You can see it in 30-45 minutes. Animals (mostly reptiles, amphibians and fish, with a few birds and mammals) look very well cared for and have good-sized, well set up enclosures. Everything is extremely well documented in both French and English. Glad I went.
Grant D — Google review
This is a fun place to stop for a little while! Entry fee is quite reasonable and the member of staff who greeted us gave us a good rundown of the site's history. There's a fun range of animals to see, including adorable sugar gliders, energetic little turtles and the coolest dwarf crocodile you'll ever see. Definitely worth a visit!
Jake F — Google review
I really liked this place and want to give an honest review. First for the visit time, it took us about 1 hour and 15 minute for the entire visit, but if you rush through it you can do it in 10 minutes and just click a quick photo for every animal. The animals displayed are more common, which does not take away from their interest. What we found especially fascinating though were the location of the zoo (inside the rampats) and the great effort (and I reckon cost) the zoo took to replicate the unique soil composure and enivironment for each aninal. Way beyond what most of such establishment do. Also the staff really showed great passion and friendliness which we appreciated it. Room for improvemt though is definetely in how the information is displayed. Its quite old school, simple info signs, whose design lack clarity and also information. A lot of information is also only presented in French, which isnt too friendky for international visitors. Have seen it done better. Still, overall a 5 star experience for us and definetely worth the 10 euro entry if you care about reptiles in a unique historical environment.

Visited today and was absolutely brilliant, staff are excellent, warm welcome and great introduction to the animals and the ramparts that you are walking underneath, details of each animal available in both French and English, great value and fascinating to see the animals up close in a unique environment. Cannot recommend highly enough, just a minute or two from the tourist office. Well worth a visit and we shall be back.

Parc de la Briantais is a serene park featuring a 17th-century château and expansive lawns that offer stunning views of the city and the Rance estuary. The estate, once owned by wealthy ship-owners, boasts the remains of a baroque mansion from 1666. Visitors can also explore a newer 19th-century chateau hosting art exhibitions and music concerts.
I really love this park, even more so since a little café opened there, where you can get a drink and a snack and hear some music. The park is huge, with lovely mature trees everywhere, which frame the views you get of the surrounding emerald sea. I always feel like I've topped up on good vibes after a walk around this park. Highly recommend!

Plage de l'éventail is a picturesque beach located near the center of the old town of Saint-Malo. It offers stunning views and is especially beautiful at low tide, with its rows of posts creating a great photo opportunity. The beach itself is a mix of sand and rocks, and during low tide, it's perfect for building sandcastles. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and panoramic views of the national fort.
I didn't get a chance to see the high tide but it was still a lovely dark town. Kids frolicked in the crystal clear water (although it was quite cold to swim).

Unless it is nice and sunny and the sea is not withdrawn, it is definitely not worth going there. We visited it while the water was far away and the beach was dirty, full with algae and semi-dead warms, basically looking like mud. This in the middle of August. Scallop entree was tasty, main course beef was superb, cheese plate afterward was ordinary. The staff started out attentive and interested, but service quality dropped away later in the evening. Not much atmosphere. For the price, it was disappointing - apart from the beef main course which was faultless.

Such a fantastic venue, we want to stay here on our next visit. Friendly staff and courteous, well prepared food and presented first class. A little background music would bring the atmosphere to the next level. Decor was perfect.

Overall a disappointing dinner experience. My wife and I had dinner at Le Petit Be and were underwhelmed. There was no one major error but all elements of the experience were a let down. Overall the menu appears good and when plated the food looks impressive. We both ordered “The Egg” as a starter which was fairly good but not very memorable. My wife got the langoustine which was served with wantons also filled with langoustine. I ordered the pollock which was served with onion, potatoes and clams. In both cases the dishes were under seasoned and surprisingly bland. The pollock seemed to be cooked correctly but lacked a lot of a flavor. Lastly, the service. It wasn’t rude or gruff, rather more indifferent and not attentive. Our waiter was ignorant on the elements of some dishes when questions were posed and kept having to go to other staff for answers. Also food was served with no explanation of the dish which would be more typical given the price point. We only ordered a bottle of water to drink and the total came to over 80 euros. Spending that much for dinner isn’t a problem if the quality of the service and food are on point. I’d consider trying this restaurant again if the service were tightened up and the food improved to match the price.

In Saint-Malo, France, the city is dotted with grand Malouinières, built by wealthy ship-owners in the 17th century. Many of these opulent mansions were eventually abandoned, leaving visitors to marvel at their former glory. Venturing into the countryside surrounding the town reveals more of these Malouinières, once belonging to the prosperous shipbuilders and corsairs who brought fame and fortune to Saint-Malo in the 18th century.

Estrees Gate in Saint-Malo, France is a picturesque spot along the beach where you can find one of the medieval city ramparts' gates. The gate is known for its window that offers stunning views of the walled city, harbor, and coastline, making it a perfect location for capturing memorable photographs. The massive fortress walls and watchtowers surrounding Estrees Gate are steeped in history, adding to the charm of this historic site.
This is the gate young Etienne uses with her Aunty and often to go to the beach in the book/TV Series “All the light we cannot see”. A captivating story and staying in Sant Malo is like being within the story. Etienne’s uncle’s house was around the corner, as seen on Google Maps.

(Translated by Google) No signage to show you the rum route on foot. On the site or the app, it is nowhere indicated that dogs are not allowed. I find it important to know this in order to organize your stay accordingly. Security is very fast. Dark people, very difficult with children, they don't see much. Entrance is free so if it were paid, some people would not come every day to stock up on items that will not be used, and this would leave room for others to see the boats and enter the stands. Then, in front of the boats we don't know who the skippers are. Put up a poster with their country, their route, type of boat. That would provide information. Little signage on the village, the application difficult to use because it does not identify us. One thing we loved was the water dispensers everywhere. In 2 hours we only visited the Charal stand, which is great with friendly hosts. They offer us a game like a skipper, reeling a vertical bar, then taking a photo in a boat... Overall very disappointed, because we learned nothing with the children. Nestled along the stunning coastline of Saint-Malo, The Sculptured Rocks is a captivating sculpture garden that showcases the artistic genius of Abbot Adolphe Julien Fouéré. From 1894 to 1907, this remarkable monk dedicated his life to carving intricate scenes from local history into the granite cliffs overlooking the sea. Visitors can easily access this hidden gem by strolling out from Le Benetin restaurant in Rotheneuf, where breathtaking views of Saint-Malo Bay and Cap Frehel await.

Mémorial 39-45 is a significant museum located in Saint-Malo, offering visitors an immersive experience into the city's wartime history. Housed within a vast anti-aircraft bunker in the Cité d'Alet, which is part of a 17th-century fortress designed by Vauban, this exhibition spans over 500 square meters across three levels and ten rooms.
The memorial is a beautiful and quiet place with a great view! Although you can visit without, it's highly recommended to take one of the tours, they start every hour and there are two different tours available, they are not expensive and the guide is very animated about the subject. The tour is in French, but you get a translation on paper so you can read along.

Minh D — Google review
All in all it was an interesting experience to see the old bunkers and the view from the old fortress. Still I think there’s a lot to do. The area outside is free for visitors, but you can only look at the old bunkers and enjoy the view. That’s it. I think there should be a bit more information about what is what and what happened back then. The information should be available in French, English and German not only in French. This place is important for many people and maybe also for the young generations who don’t understand French. Even just English would be enough for everyone to understand! The opening times to the museum (which you can only visit by booking a guided tour in French, just some printed text in English and German) should be longer. You visit the place and the museum is not open and you won’t come again. In a nutshell, there’s a lot of change to be done…
Jacob — Google review

Time to brush up on history. This open area is an important place to walk, visit, and honor. For bunker tours, call ahead to arrange a guided tour. The place is an old German fortification that extended along the tip of the coast and was eventually conquered back during W.W.II. The bunkers are well preserved, restoration takes place to help preserve the forts/bunkers. A sense of admiration for those who fought and died for France is palpable.

Bidouane Tower, a historic structure in Saint-Malo, stands at 23 meters tall and was originally constructed as a gunpowder storage facility in the 15th century. It played a significant role in the city's defense and was targeted by an 'infernal machine' in 1663. Today, visitors can climb to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding islands and shimmering waters.
I think this is the most scenic place and a must when in St Malo. When I was there, the pianist was playing under the clear sky and it was wonderfully moving and elemental.
Kentarieeenu 3 — Google review
It was against this tower that the Anglo-Dutch tried to operate an "infernal machine" in 1663, which consisted of a ship full of explosives that was sent near the tower to explode it. It is one of the main fortified towers of the walls. It is 23 meters high and 13 meters wide, and was part of the desire to make of Saint-Malo an important fortress. It was built on a rocky promontory during the second half of the 15th century. It takes its present name in 1691, when it was rebuilt.

(Translated by Google) As we walk along the ramparts, this place always calls out to us: a small footbridge to cross and we find Surcouff and a very beautiful view of the sea. Wonderful statue perfectly representing the city's most famous privateer. Robert Surcouf became the most popular privateer in France and Brittany, the most feared by the English: his nickname was the “king of privateers”! Privateers who are not pirates, be careful! The difference? They are not outlaws. They act in the name of the king, only in times of war, “letters of marque” in hand. Embarked at the age of thirteen, he then became a privateer captain. He harassed the British merchant and military navies, not only on the seas of Europe, but also on those of India. His activities earned him recognition — he was named a member of the Legion of Honor on 26 Prairial Year XII (June 14, 1804) — and enriched him. He became one of the richest and most powerful shipowners in Saint-Malo and a prosperous owner of eight hundred hectares of land.

Castle
The construction of Saint-Malo Castle began in 1424 by John V, Duke of Brittany, to secure his control over the town. The castle features a D-shaped keep and is the oldest built on a corner tower of a rampart. It stands at the bottom of Grande Plage du Sillon and measures 20 meters high and 33 meters in diameter.
Fabulous walk and inside the wall of the castle is so lively. Watch the kids growing into the sailors life, they take sailing lessons ⛵️ Parking is really difficult and it fills up quickly. So many nice cafes and it is great place for people watching.
Nusynasy S — Google review
Very nice that we could walk around the walls and enjoy the view. There are parts where you can sit and enjoy the scenery. Parking is challenging but I recommend walking around that beach area and visiting the castle. A lot of good restaurants, a bit overpriced at times but affordable. Shops inside the castle could stay open longer during high season.
Afra F — Google review
The Chateaux was built between the 15th and 18th centuries. The castle was built by the dukes of Brittany to ensure their guardianship over the city of Saint-Malo. Anne of Brittany, future queen of France, ordered the construction of the tower of Quic-en-Groigne between 1498 and 1501. Today it has been converted and houses the services of the City Hall of Saint-Malo, while the General Tower and the Great Keep house the Museum of the History of the City.

Built in 1674, transformed during the first expansion in 1708, it was built to protect the city from attacks by Dutch fleets. The Bastion de la Hollande dominates part of the walls of the northwest of St. Malo. A statue of Jacques Cartier, a Malouin sailor who discovered the Gulf of St. Lawrence and eastern Canada in 1534, was placed there. The bastion is also equipped with several cannons dating from the end of the 18th century, recalling its use in the defense of St. Malo during the time of the corsairs.

The bastion of Saint-Philippe dates back to 1714, the time of the 2nd expansion of the city. It was named in honor of Philippe II d'Orléans, Regent of France. It bordered a district of rich shipowners' houses in the 18th century. On the corner of the bastion, in front of the Môle des Noires, there is a beautiful watchtower crowned by a fleur-de-lis. From here there are beautiful views of the city of Aleth and the Bas Sablons.
