City park
Parc du Thabor, also known as the "Central Park rennais," is a must-visit in Rennes. Spanning over 10 hectares, this 18th-century park features French and English-style gardens, a botanical garden with over 3000 species, aviaries housing non-native bird species, a music kiosk, and a rose garden boasting more than 2,000 varieties of roses.
A simply lovely place to visit and walk about. A great variety of plants, trees and flowers. There's a children's play area and a super collection of birds, chickens and roosters. The birds kept us captive for a better part of a half hour and the chicken entertained us for another quarter hour .

Lovely place! Suggest to have a peaceful walk there

Parc du Thabor in Rennes, France is truly a delightful escape in the heart of the city. Spanning over 10 hectares, this beautifully maintained park offers a perfect blend of French formal gardens, English-style landscaping, and a lovely botanical garden. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, it’s a serene spot to relax, take a walk, or enjoy a peaceful afternoon. What makes Parc du Thabor special is its charm and diversity. The rose garden is absolutely stunning in bloom, with hundreds of varieties adding color and fragrance to the air. The tall, shaded trees and open grassy areas make it ideal for picnics or simply lounging with a book. Families will appreciate the well-kept playgrounds, and there are even aviaries with exotic birds to admire. Throughout the seasons, the park remains a lively yet calming place — perfect for a morning jog, a romantic stroll, or some quiet reflection. It’s also close to the city center, making it easily accessible and a great break from the hustle of urban life. Overall, Parc du Thabor is a must-visit if you’re in Rennes. It’s a beautiful, peaceful space that showcases the natural beauty and thoughtful design typical of great European parks.
Rahul N — Google review
Must visit in Rennes! Come with kids and your family and you'll find a charming French garden with pleasant greenery. In particular you need to visit the birds nest! Try to grab a stick under the surrounding trees and let parrots come up to you. Such a wonderful place to visit in summer time.
Osbern H — Google review
I would have liked to give 4 stars but I think it will make more impact on reducing to make sure this catch the attention. I went to this park on the 29/08/2025 and first of all this is a very pretty and lit park. It’s free to enter and I also found some ducks and chickens I think :) (correct me if I am wrong) as I went to the park and explored then I needed to use the toilet so I didn’t check if there was any other as the Google maps led me to this specific toilet but I wasn’t the only one trying to use the facility. But,I am very disappointed by the fact that the toilet facility is not looked after at all. It looks like it has been clean for weeks. I mean how can you take care of a place you opened for the general public and the tourist alike, then ignore the fact that if you are expecting them to see there and spend time they cannot have somewhere to go and satisfy their humans needs(🚽🧻🧼🧴🪣). At least do some effort. Overall it’s a great park to visit but be mindful of this when planning to go there.
Mo — Google review
Cute and best park I've been to. It is quite big and colourful with flowers blooming. And you would also find love birds and chickens. Definitely a must visit in Rennes!
Ancy C — Google review
The prettiest park I’ve ever been to! I visited around 7-8 pm on a Thursday night (summer)and the weather was perfect for a walk. There was a modern art gallery plus a small bird sanctuary and the place is filled with beautiful flowers and greenery. I promise you will have a great time there. Bonne visite!

Museums
The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes, established during the French Revolution in 1794, houses a diverse collection of art spanning from Greek and Celtic antiquities to modern works by artists like Picasso. The museum's elegant 19th-century building provides an enchanting backdrop for the rich history and magnificent artworks it holds. Notable pieces include relics from Ancient Egypt, sketches by Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt, as well as contemporary art.
I really enjoyed my visit to this amazing gallery . There are many great paintings to see here my favourites were by one Francesco Casanova . I also loved the copy of the Mona Lisa by Giovanni Rota alas I haven't seen the original as yet but I will one day . Jan I van Kessels Noahs Arc was cool too I thought . A most enjoyable day spent in Rennes ,Thank You very much .

It is one of those museums that has a lot of small collections of art in the galleries. Organised by art style and period. There is an archaeology gallery with items from Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Wondering through the galleries here and there, you see something that makes you stop to look better. The nice thing about the museum is that it's free
Seimen B — Google review
Very nice art museum, way better than the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. It is much less known but so much more worth a visit.

A great day out with some lovely and interesting art objects to see. It is generally free to visit and concentrates on French art.
Eddie B — Google review
Went with my family to visit and liked the speakerphone which I've never seen before.

Small collection, and not a lot that really caught my attention, but art is subjective, there are a few absolute gems, and the permanent collection is free to explore, and so worthwhile a visit if you are in the city.

The Parlement de Bretagne is a historic courthouse located in Rennes, France. The 17th-century parliamentary palace was designed by Salomon de Brosse and features ornate chambers and an inner courtyard. Although it suffered a fire in 1994, the palace was meticulously restored, showcasing French-style ceilings, gilded woodwork, and allegorical canvases. The Grand Chambre is particularly noteworthy for its exceptional decor.
The Parliament of Brittany (Parlement de Bretagne) is a historic institution located in Rennes, France. Originally established in the 16th century following the union of Brittany with France, it functioned as the region’s sovereign court of justice. The current building, completed in the 17th century, is an architectural landmark blending classical and Breton styles. Though it no longer holds political power, the Parliament remains a symbol of Brittany’s historical identity and autonomy, and today houses the Rennes Court of Appeal. It is also a popular tourist site, known for its richly decorated interiors and cultural significance.

As English speakers with limited French, Sacha was a wonderful guide and gave us a brief overview in English before moving to the next room, despite the tour only being officially only in French. The parliament itself is amazing and not to be missed, both for understanding Bretagne and Rennes. He was well received by the native French speakers. He is well versed in French and Breton history and ably (and graciously) answered all of our questions.

The Portes Mordelaises in Rennes is one of the few remaining vestiges of the city's ramparts. Known as royal gates for their role in the enthronement of the Dukes and Duchesses of Brittany, they consist of two gates: a large one for vehicles and a smaller one for pedestrians. Surrounded by two symmetrical towers and a drawbridge, these gates served as a defense system for the city.

The Musée de Bretagne, located in the Champs Libres building near Gare de Rennes SNCF, proudly showcases Brittany's history as an independent duchy. It houses archeological artifacts, interactive displays, and photographs that depict the region's rich heritage. Despite its seemingly small size, the museum offers a wealth of information, documents, and audiovisual materials spanning from the Neolithic era to modern times.
The architecture of the museum and adjoining library is beautiful to behold. It draws you in and opens your curiosity to explore, learn and interact with the stories within. The permanent exhibit traces the entire span of human habitation in the Armorique peninsula from the earliest prehistory to our time and beyond. It challenges the visitor to reflect on how to manage the future of this unique place. There is much more to see. A temporary exhibit showed the world of mountain glaciers in the Pyrenees and the life forms of the intertidal zone through the photographs of researchers. In the center of the building, a planetarium invites exploration of the cosmos. The library is connected on the ground floor and soars 6 floors to offer views of the city. There are workspaces and a small café as well. Le Musée de Bretagne is so much more than just a museum. As a frequent visitor to Brittany, it enriched my understanding of the human geography of this extensive rocky peninsula. It has much to offer the Bretons themselves: a place to explore and understand their own culture, transmit this understanding to new generations, or simply relax in a space that stimulates the mind. Extremely well done!

It's a nice thing to do while I'm Rennes. The entrance is free which was a nice surprise. You can get a glimpse about the history of the region , and an interesting fact is that besides English and French the info boards have the local language Breton as well. Going through the whole museum it will take you around 1h and a half maybe up to 3 if you read every info board.

Went here to see prehistoric finds and was not dissapointed. They do try to give attention to the whole history of Brittany until present day, so it was not that much. The big chunks of text are translated in English, so thanks for that as well! Beautiful museum with way much more going on then what we had time and energy for.

Excellent museum. It takes a very broad view of the history and culture of Bretagne and tells it in an interesting and engaging way. As a foreign tourist I am very grateful for the English audioguide and many of the explanations also offered in French and English. And they even make it free!! Merci 🙏 Definitely worth a visit if you are spending some time in Bretagne. (And Rennes was a lovely city to visit as well)

Im writing this because I couldn’t find a direct email address. Your Horse is in a horrendous condition. It needs to be brought to a vet as soon as possible. Someone needs to trim its hair and more importantly it’s hoofs! It can not walk properly with these cracked dry and unkept hoofs. This pain while walking likely causes its slight obesity. For reference: I have great experience with horses and I honestly ask you to bring the Horse to a vet as soon as possible!!!! Apart from that I really like the museum but I wanted to bring this to you attention

Nestled in the historic heart of Rennes, the Basilique Saint-Sauveur is a captivating minor basilica that beckons visitors with its rich history and serene ambiance. Originally founded before the 11th century, this Roman Catholic church has undergone several expansions and a significant reconstruction in the early 18th century. Renowned for its neoclassical architecture, it became a basilica due to numerous miraculous tales associated with it over time.
(Translated by Google) Compared with the nearby main church, this church is slightly smaller, but the interior design is still worth seeing. (Original)

(Translated by Google) From the outside, the basilica appears rather modest, as if it didn't want to offend the city's more magnificent churches. Yet inside, it exudes a quiet elegance: golden altars, soft candlelight, and ceiling paintings that hold your gaze longer than you might expect. Here, the sermon is not grandeur, but atmosphere—a place that invites whispering rather than wonder. Those seeking a moment of peace will find it here, framed by centuries of quiet devotion. 👍

Rennes Centre Historique is a charming area with a rich history dating back to 2 B.C. It boasts vibrantly colored medieval buildings, including the Maison Ti Koz built in 1505, which are still inhabited today. The picturesque city features typical houses, fortifications, and beautiful access gates. Additionally, it offers diverse experiences such as shopping, historical sites, bars, and even nightclubs set in former historic locations like the Saint Michel Prison.

This park is small but enjoyable. There is a playground and a small pond with ducks (and other water birds) for the kids. You can find both shade and sunny areas and the overall feeling is pretty peaceful and quiet. Good for a picnic or an afternoon of outdoor rest !

Absolutely gorgeous little park where to enjoy a nice picnic and rest on the grass. Beautiful huge trees, a small lake and ducks and a children area. Really nice

It's a quiet park with very big old trees. There is a playground for kids but it's not rich with toys or playing stuff. I wish there was a sand ground for kids or a better playground.

The Saint-Georges swimming pool in Rennes is a public pool housed in an Art Deco building constructed in 1925. The city of Rennes boasts a mix of architectural styles, from medieval dwellings and Gothic cathedrals to 17th-century buildings, art nouveau and art deco structures like the Saint-Georges swimming pool.
An amazing place. The old school decor is well maintained and so aesthetically pleasing. I spent a lot of time staring at the mosaics. The changing room setup reminds you of Wes Anderson movie. A must visit even if you don't want to swim.
Karthika S — Google review
Very nice swimming pool, that kept the old and beautiful decorations! Otherwise prices are pretty expensive, especially a single entrance is too much. And the schedules are a bit weird and difficult to follow, but at least everyone can find a good time to go. Sadly it's a small pool so it is getting crowded pretty fast.
Alex A — Google review
An absolutely amazing pool space, and a great visit for swimmers. The art deco building is like stepping back 100 years. The 33.33M length is odd by modern standards, but interesting to experience. The pool is fairly deep at it's shallowest, so may not be the best for inexperienced children (consider Piscine Gayeulles). The changing stalls are in the older tradition, where you enter one side, change, and pass through the other directly onto the pool deck itself. Note there is no parking for the pool, although I've found street parking easily in the past. There are several bus stops nearby and it's a very short walk from the Saint-Germain Metro station. Unfortunately, Saint-Georges is often closed for long periods (the entire summer 2023, for example), and even when open the times change often, so check with the pool website before going - don't rely on the times posted by Google.

Not only is this place an absolute joy to see but the water is not overly chlorinated which is great. Enjoyed the experience thoroughly.

A nice swimming-pool with 6 lanes, 33 meters long. It features an Art Deco style designed by a locally famous artist (Odorico): that an opportunity to swim in an historical building. Unfortunately, it's crowded every evening :-(.
Jean R — Google review
More functional than it appears in the photos taken on special occasions, but a full 25m pool and a very refreshing example of the architecture that it represents, and friendly staff. A very agreeable pause during a 3-day visit.
David H — Google review
The architecture is really nice and you have enough space to swim at your convenience. The restroom is a little far from the pool though so not very practical.

Good place to swim. Not expensive. Half is 3 meters deep. The other half is 1.5 meters. No children's pool. Kind staffs. 6 lanes. 33 meters long. Need to check the time table for public use.

Brilliant place. Friendly, helpful staff. My son's spent a very happy afternoon here.

I really like the boulder problems offered by this gym, very interesting and a lot of different levels for everyone. It's graded from 1 to 14, so I was disappointed to not have a french scale which gives you a better idea of your level. You can also do top roping by yourself which makes the experience more diverse, they have a small portion of the wall dedicated to it (this one with french scale). They have a nice warming up space upstairs. I had a good time overall but I do wish for more boulders problems because it gets crowded really fast and a french grading system to better evaluate what you're doing.
Mae S — Google review
Nice venue and friendly staff (even though my French is awful - they were very nice). Facilities were good, and enjoyed using the exercise bike after my climb. Only criticism is that I found there was big skill jump in routes - with Medium being a little too challenging vs. the lower difficulty level - so that I was either a bit bored (too easy) or a bit frustrated (too hard) compared to other gyms I have climbed in with more varied difficulty curve. But, that is just as much a personal - between levels - issue. All around would recommend it.

(Translated by Google) Avoid! A terrible experience with the staff at Next Adventure in Vitré, where we had planned to celebrate our son's birthday. Zero flexibility and no commercial sense. The customer is completely disregarded. To avoid losing our 50% deposit, even though we'd been trying unsuccessfully to reschedule the session for a week, we chose to honor the reservation, but once we arrived, we had to pay for all 8 reservations, even though there were only 4 of us left! In the end, they won the day because we refused to pay the balance, so no laser tag for us. They pocketed the deposit for 4 tickets and were able to resell the 8 reservations. A great deal for them. However, for us, we lost €64, and my son didn't get to celebrate his birthday at the laser tag. We'll never go there again. Furthermore, after reading the T&Cs, he writes: "if fewer USERS show up to participate in the game SESSION than initially planned when booking, the BUYER and/or USERS cannot claim a refund of the price difference, a credit note corresponding to said price difference will be issued, this credit note will be valid for 6 months after the date of the initial booking." However, no credit note was offered to us. I inform you to file a report with the fraud prevention service. (Original) A fuir!

If your kids are in for a little adventure I would highly recommend going to this place. Staff is very friendly and helpful and the price is reasonable. Only minor point of critique is that the gloves were rather dirty and smelled musty. If I am ever in the neighborhood again I will definitely go here again. Be aware that the place closes between 12 and one for lunch.

the attraction is great! our 6 & 3 year old had lots of fun, they do really have things to do specifically for each age and this is amazing. LESS amazing is the fact that the crew on site decided that from 11:30 to 13:30 the site is closed for their lunch, and since we just arrived around 11:30 we had to wait around for 2 fricking hours!!!! i double checked on their website and this is not written anywhere, so that was a disappointment, but when you get in, this is a great attraction, and the crew was nice and informative.

It's an ideal spot for dog sitters to take their furry friends for a leisurely stroll. The park offers a pleasant mix of nature, including forests, meadows, and playgrounds suitable for children of all ages.
Very nice park, even in rain. Mostly paved and gravel paths with some lighting and many signposts. Several spots have picnic tables and other places to relax. There are at least two photo blinds to watch the birds and highland cattle. The water running through is also quite scenic with overhanging trees and other elements that lend a relaxing atmosphere. Parc des Hautes Ourmes, also known as "Bois des Allemands" during the Occupation, is a densely wooded park that was developed in the 1970s while preserving around a thousand trees surrounding a large clearing. The park features beautiful typical oak trees and offers various amenities for children such as a paddling pool, slide, and sandbox. It's an ideal place for families to enjoy the outdoors, with the paddling pool providing relaxation during hot summer days.
(Translated by Google) This park is perfectly suited to all residents of the neighborhood. It offers games for children and a very pleasant wooded area with shaded paths and wilder paths. There is also a large clearing ideal for playing and picnicking.

(Translated by Google) Overall, it's a good dog park, with a much-appreciated mini-wooded area. Grass and few, if any, holes, so there must be little dog use here. There are pieces of tree trunks used as "chairs." Be careful! The double gate system is particularly faulty and opens by itself in the wind.

(Translated by Google) Great discovery in the heart of Rennes. It's nice to have such a large, quiet and peaceful place surrounded by nature to unwind from city life! 😊 The children's games are fun, the park remains clean and well maintained despite people dropping trash there. The paddling pool area was closed that day due to technical problems so we were very disappointed not to have been able to test it under 30°C. There are large green spaces without anything... too bad, that could leave room for a corner for animals (goats, sheep...) or many other play structures. It was a pedestrian crossing and we still saw a guy there who was wandering around all afternoon with his scooter doing I don't know what business 😑.

(Translated by Google) Aging games and not enough structures for young children! Nothing to do with Landry Park! No toilets available in case the little ones want to go... No more paddling pool like when we were young... On top of that, no supervision when our children were playing there were lots of young people who were there playing smoke their weed! Great for a children's playpen!! (Translated by Google) Pleasant park for young (and middle-aged) children. Small gates that secure the play area, very useful when you have a 19-month-old running around. I removed a star because one of the games seemed soiled with piss, another game was unusable with an orange stud but not sufficiently secure in my opinion and the place is not very well attended.
