The Old Barracks Museum, located in Trenton, is housed in a 1758 British military building and offers a glimpse into Colonial American history. This historic site played a pivotal role in the American Revolution, witnessing George Washington's troops defeating the British army. The museum showcases its significance as it was used to house British soldiers during the French and Indian War and later served as a military hospital during the Revolutionary War.
I'm a huge fan. The barracks are a little rough around the edges. But, I understand it's getting a bit of a refurbishment for 2026.

Great museum, plenty of history and great tours where u can touch real armor and clothes from the British, guide tour was very interesting and kind, nice price

Not too many places this old left in the United States. Most of the structure dates to the 1760's. On top of that, they frequently hold re-enactments. Lots of history can be learned here from a period people forget about.
Kevin J — Google review
Good place to learn/visualise about historical events. I wished I was able to get the outside exhibit like they promised. Good time with school age children.

This is a great place to go during Covid because it’s one of the few things that’s open!! You have to book your tickets ahead of time online and then show up for your designated time slot which is two hours. And let me tell you - my mom and I were there for a full two hours! We were actually the only people there and basically got a private tour the entire time! I can’t compare it to pre-Covid times as we had never been there before, but we got a thorough tour led by Asher who took us through the barracks and let us explore an exhibit, which was indoors, on our own. Then he handed us off to another guide dressed in character as a solider who told us all about his duties and fired a couples shots with his musket just for us. Then we watched a shoemaker and carpenter, in full character, for another half hour do their jobs while they told us all about them. Overall it was super thorough and very enjoyable! The staff played their parts just as if a whole crowd of people were there, except it was only two of us (again, basically a private tour!). Im really glad places like this are open so people can get out during this strange time of social distancing. Take this opportunity to go visit while it’s not crowded and support this local historical site in downtown Trenton! Plus, depending on the day, you can park for free right next to the Barracks (something we realized after we had already paid for parking)!
Ashley O — Google review
In my opinion it's too much money for the tickets. I didn't have a good time there. I feel I gave $20 away. I could only see a small room with the French Indian War Exhibit and a small room with a boring movie. No guides were available at the time to escort me on the other rooms. (I would had to wait half hour for that and I needed to check out at the hotel). And on top, no money back. Only a voucher so I could come back later (no way I'm coming back)...
Luis C — Google review
This is a little hard to find and surrounded by the city but parking was okay when we arrived. It was however closed because they had just finished a special event. We were allowed to walk the grounds and an off duty staff did give us a little history. Amazing to think you can stand where General George Washington took command of the Continental Army.
Erin N — Google review
This was a really neat experience during Patriots Week when SO many people in Period costume, and reenactors were present. It really made the place come alive!

The New Jersey State Museum, located at 205 W State Street in Trenton, offers a diverse and educational experience for visitors. Established in 1895, it was the first state museum in the country with a primary focus on education. The museum's exhibits cover natural history, fine art, cultural history, and archaeology.
Went to visit here since it was a free museum and saw everything except the planetarium. It’s not bad at all, very reasonable experience given that it’s free of charge. You get to see a ton of NJ history, paintings, art, old civilization life, artifacts, etc. The fossils and animals room definitely was our favorite since we had never seen them up close before in person. There was a very wide array of things to look at and read about in that room in particular. Definitely the highlight of the visit. The planetarium costs about $10 per person too so very reasonable. We didn’t end up going but the option is there. Only thing I should mention is there were barely any people there on a Saturday afternoon! We saw maybe 5 families throughout the entire building minus the staff. It was very very empty compared to other popular places like the Franklin Institute and Art Museum in Philly. Still worth a trip since it’s free experience, but just something to mention since we thought we were in the wrong place the whole time because there was one around.
Richard L — Google review
I hadn't been to a planetarium since I was a kid and wanted to bring my husband and daughter for their first time and WOW! We had such a wonderful time. We chose the show "The Great Solar System Adventure" and it was the perfect balance between whimsy and science. Pre the 'movie', we were given a tour of our very own night sky and the gentleman who provided us this celestial tour (I don't recall his name at the moment, my apologies) was excellent! He was incredibly knowledgeable and you could hear the excitement in his voice. It was obvious he knows our universe very well and enjoys sharing that knowledge. I even spoke with him after the show and his enthusiasm remained. I asked for book recommendations for someone wanting to begin to understand the cosmos on their own and he gave plenty! I hope he's paid well. The show we saw was at 12pm Saturday September 27th. There weren't too many people there and the overall experience brought our whole family so much joy. We will be returning!
Trust J — Google review
Smaller than we expected but still a nice visit. Lots of animals and dinosaur bones to look at. A great art selection. And an old furniture section. Word of caution. Depending on the day you go, the parking lot fills quick and so does the parking in front of the building. We needed to park two blocks away on a garage and walk over. Staff were super friendly and offered us a map upon arrival and additional information without being asked.
Kayla H — Google review
Love it, First time here and would go again only if it wasn't in Trenton. That's my only complaint but overall I loved the museum.
Chanelle W — Google review
One of our favorite spots in and around Trenton. Had so much fun going through all the different exhibits and exercise/activity areas. Being FREE doesn't hurt, and the planetarium show is worth the nominal fee for the show.
Ian S — Google review
A nice little-ish free museum to spend a few hours in. The planetarium is always fun, they seem to mix up their exhibits every once in a while. Clean, safe, good time for the family and just to peruse around. Would definitely recommend.
Ed — Google review
Visited on a weekend. The museum has about three floors and was just okay overall—not something I’d return to. I walked around for a bit, but nothing really stood out. Parking was a hassle; it wasn’t clear that street parking was free, and most nearby garages were closed. I ended up driving around for about 15 minutes trying to figure it out.
Eunice T — Google review
The New Jersey State Museum is a wonderful destination in Trenton that offers a perfect blend of education and entertainment. Whether you’re a history buff, an art enthusiast, or just looking for a fun day out, this museum has something for everyone. The planetarium is a highlight, offering engaging shows about the stars, planets, and space. Each show lasts approximately 30-45 minutes, making it easy to fit into your visit. Tickets are affordable, priced at $10 for adults and $5 for children. Shows are scheduled multiple times a day, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to catch one. It’s a great way to spend a few hours and gain a deeper appreciation for New Jersey’s history and the wonders of space.

Located in historic downtown Trenton, the New Jersey State House is a must-visit for those interested in the state's government history and architecture. As the third-oldest state house still in use in the United States, it offers guided tours that provide insight into its rich heritage. Visitors can explore various chambers, including those for the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly, as well as the governor's office. Additionally, surrounding parks feature innovative historic exhibits that educate visitors about the area's history.
We had the opportunity/honor to visit the New Jersey State House in JUL_FY2024 and it was an amazing experience, a great opportunity to learn more about NJ's history and legacy. We did a plant tour aroud since it was possible to visit, only with scheduled tour, and for sure it's a remarkable building. Definitely, it's a place that deserves my respect. It was a privilege.
Robertson S — Google review
WOW! The New Jersey State House is absolutely beautiful! I came here to be honored for the NJCBAA Honor Society representing Rutgers University Camden School of Business and what an absolute honor to sit inside of such an amazing historical place. The history shared was incredible to hear and the architectural details are beautiful. Definitely take a tour because it is worth it!
Jaqui V — Google review
The only reason this is getting 5 stars because of a generous and courteous woman named Carol. Stopped to take a self guided tour like I have of other statehouses. Well, this one you have to have a scheduled appointment. Only time I've heard of that. They gave me a number to call and Carol called me back willing to take me through the building. Not the most impressive of statehouse but still beautiful in its own right. They just recently went through a remodel as well. Thank you so much Carol.
Brian D — Google review
Great capitol building. They have a free parking garage which is always nice for visitors. The reason I give it 4 stars is because of the fact you need to book a tour in advance and cannot do a self guided tour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and the tour lasted around an hour.
Dennis L — Google review
Enjoyed the guided tour highlighting the history and architecture of the state house. All of the staff were very friendly.

From the civics lessons to local jokes, tour guide Matt has truly mastered his craft. He looked into our souls and truly educated us out of state travelers on the inner workings of the NJ State House. Stay classy, Matt. P.S. He is patient with hyperactive children.

Trenton Farmers Market, located at 960 Spruce Street in Lawrence Township, is a beloved destination for those who appreciate locally sourced produce and artisanal foods. Established in 1939, it is the oldest farmers market in New Jersey and showcases the region's agricultural abundance. The market features a wide variety of offerings from farms such as Terhune Orchards and Pineland Farms, including fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, baked goods, and artisanal cheeses.
Two excellent butchers inside: Pulaski Meat Products and Cartlidge's Quality Meats. Quirky gift shops, good food stands (don't sleep on the Italian hot dog from Ray's Market Cafe), plus fresh produce at the farm stands. Get a pint of perfect ice cream from Halo Farms next door after shopping and eating lunch.

I love when I'm visiting the area going here. All the stands are great. I always get some steaks, BBQ, soursop, and miscellaneous vegetables. Clean location. Lots of parking. Everything is friendly. See you next time I am in the area.
Josh M — Google review
I can’t get enough of this place! This was my second visit and it’s so much fun! You can literally get everything from fruits and veggies to soaps, clothing, bread and dessert. The weekend seems to have more vendors but everyone is always friendly regardless of when you visit. The bbq stand…let’s just say the brisket beats any we had in Texas or the south in general. My only qualm- hours are confusing. Facebook says one thing, recording says another. In this day and age, Facebook trumps all so I went with that.
Leslie P — Google review
The two times that visited (first on Sunday and again late Saturday) we found the market not very crowded. I would imagine things will pickup in mid-summer to late fall.
Saeed G — Google review
Warning! Not all the vendors are nice and respectful but most are. It was my first visit. I had a very unpleasant experience with one of the vendors, Pineland Farms. The short woman was very dismissive and nasty. However, the manager of the Farmer's Market was very helpful and nice. He offered to help me put a 24" watermelon I purchased inside my car. You could tell he was just a naturally authentic nice guy.
Nunna B — Google review
Older establishment with a good amount of local vendors selling everything from clothing, sea moss, fruits and vegetables, hot food. Prices were good on some items, okay on others. Old school, flea market type interior with friendly vendors. One Amish hot food vendor. Ribs, chicken per lb. hot food vendor quality and price very good.
Norman T — Google review
I stopped in here today for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised. There were a lot of great vendors here. And I was able to eat lunch and grab dessert. It was pouring rain today, and the bathroom is in a separate building where you have to get a key to get inside. I was also hangry when I got here and some guy was trying to force me to talk to him about some charity. Other than that, a very good experience. I love that there are two vegan places to eat here.
Melissa S — Google review
Place to get fresh locally grown, organic produce. They have tonne of small shops inside this place ranging from a breakfast place, fresh juice center, local boutique, coffee chain. Awesome selection of fruit, vegetables, hot prepared foods, 2 vegan eateries, Deli meats and baked goods. Lambertville BakeHouse, excellent bakery with great bagels and pastries. Porkroll from Cartlige's Meats will change your life. Support local, and shop small!

Nature & Parks
Cadwalader Park, located in Trenton, is a vast and tranquil green space spanning nearly 100 acres. The park features expansive lawns, winding paths, and various trees. One of its notable attractions is the Ellarslie Mansion, also known as the Trenton City Museum, which houses the Museum Society's impressive collection. Visitors can explore ceramics from Trenton's renowned pottery industry and view historical artifacts and regional artwork.
We go there because it has a special meaning for us. It’s a quiet park during the weekday and they cut down the really old trees (at least 3 of them) which were a hazard and planted new ones. So it has been well maintained over the years. We love coming here.
Forever Y — Google review
Cadwalader Park is my go-to refuge when the city noise gets too loud and life feels too fast. Nestled in the northwest corner of Trenton, it offers a gentle escape into nature's embrace. The moment I step onto its winding paths, the urban buzz fades, replaced by birdsong, rustling leaves, and the kind of quiet that feels like a deep breath. Whether I'm strolling beneath towering trees or simply sitting and listening to the symphony of nature, this park never fails to restore me. It's not just green space, it's a place to reconnect, reflect, and recharge. If you're looking for peace, beauty, and a break from the concrete rhythm, Cadwalader delivers
YIMS N — Google review
This park is such a nice place to walk around. I was truly impressed by the size of this city park. It has a steam along one side, threes throughout, but not so many that its like being in the woods. Some beautiful historic buildings. All tucked into the city of Trenton. Im impressed.
Sarah S — Google review
Great place to walk, eat out on the bench, park for kids... Wonderful trees and scenery.
Emil J — Google review
Nice park to enjoy the outdoors. Beautiful landscaping, new benches and BBQs just bring your own charcoal. Lots of wildlife and since it's right next to canal some fishing opportunities. There is also a really nice playground area for the kids with many different age appropriate options.
Eric W — Google review
This park is a hidden gem! Beautiful grounds and the mansion is a museum which is wonderful and the park is so nice and in the middle of Trenton! There is multiable BBQ grill stations and a newly redone play ground, the security is very good and very helpful, I met on security man and he told me about how it was back in the day and that he has been going there since 1965 and now he works at the park, he was very helpful. I would definitely go, bring some BBQ and grill up a snack under a tree! Show up early as it gets busy during the afternoon, what a hidden gem and there is reminents of the old zoo there as well!
Danny M — Google review
Despite being a little apprehensive about this park due to the bad surrounding neighborhood, the park itself is lovely. They just built and opened a beautiful new playground. I am sad that I feel paranoid whenever I go into the park. To help this, I bring absolutely no valuables but my phone and leave long before sunset. Taking a walk in this park is great.

Monument
The Trenton Battle Monument is a striking memorial that commemorates the 1776 Battle of Trenton during the Revolutionary War. Construction began in 1891 and was completed over two years, creating a landmark that dominates the city's skyline. This monument serves as a reminder of New Jersey's role in the Revolutionary War and honors General George Washington's victory on December 26, 1776.
Ok- monument is Awesome. Very tall and quite similar to the Trafalgar monument in London. However- that area of town is a total disaster. Run down, and jyst not attractive. So sad
Pts P — Google review
The city needs to take better care of the area. Grass hadn't been mowed in a long time.

Perfect little park to sit and enjoy the day and learn about Trenton’s importance in US history.
Tony R — Google review
The Trenton Battle Monument is a notable historical site worth visiting if you find yourself in the area. This impressive monument commemorates the pivotal Battle of Trenton during the American Revolutionary War. Standing at 148 feet tall, the monument offers a striking presence and serves as a reminder of the significant events that took place here in 1776. Visitors can take an elevator ride to the top of the monument, where you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of the city and surrounding areas. The site is well-maintained, and there are informative plaques and displays that provide context and historical background about the battle and its importance in American history. While the monument itself might not take long to visit, its historical significance and the perspective it offers make it a worthwhile stop for history enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. If you're exploring Trenton or nearby areas, the Trenton Battle Monument is definitely worth a look.
Kieran M — Google review
The Trenton Battle Monument was dedicated in 1893 to honor the American troops who fought in the Battle of Trenton on December 26, 1776. This battle was a significant turning point in the American Revolutionary War, as it boosted the morale of the Continental Army after a series of defeats. The monument stands 148 feet tall and features a striking obelisk design, topped with a statue of George Washington, symbolizing his leadership during this critical moment in history. The monument is surrounded by a beautiful park, which provides a reflective space for visitors to appreciate the bravery of those who fought for independence. It serves not only as a tribute to the soldiers but also as a reminder of the struggles and sacrifices made for freedom. The surrounding area is also rich in history, making it a wonderful place for both history buffs and casual visitors to explore.
Susan W — Google review
Great statue but the interior museum is closed to the public because the elevator is over 100 years old and unsafe. Would cost a fortune to repair and the city of Trenton is strapped for cash. The granite monument is beautiful and worth a visit during the day or during a special event. It's not terribly safe for tourists at nighttime.
Seven B — Google review
Good historic place but the downtown is so rundown that it was a disappointment. A capital city should not have roads, Streets like that. A better cleaning, but more planting and upkeep will go a long way.
Ashar K — Google review
This monument is a towering memorial to George Washington and his army for his stunning victories over the Hessians and British army at the Battles for Trenton. It can be seen from several blocks away from the center of this city. There are several benches to rest and reflect about the Colonial army's victories here. It is also the commencement point of the Battle of Trenton re-enactment on 12/30/2023. A great historical and hallowed ground in American history. Well worth a visit here in Trenton.

Nestled in Trenton, the William Trent House Museum is a captivating historic site that dates back to 1719. Originally the residence of fur trader and merchant William Trent, this charming brick house has been lovingly restored to reflect its original character since it opened as a museum in 1939. The property once featured beautiful English cherry trees and has witnessed various transformations over the years.
Great little museum. Only able to visit via guided tour, but no need to make a reservation. Simple enter the grounds and someone will take your through the house. My guide was very informative and I learned a lot about the origins of Trenton.

First time there today with my family, and it's a great museum. Easy, free parking. House is gorgeous with an informative tour guide who does a nice job balancing the information and the flow through the house. Tour length about 45 minutes. Because only one person was working we did have to wait for a previous tour to finish and there was no sign to let us know that so we stood around for 10 minutes or so, but there were plenty of informational displays in the admission area to keep us occupied. A great piece of Trenton and NJ history!

Love their mission to preserving American history and their commitment to tell Black History within their work. I went for a reading of Frederick Douglass July 5th speech to honor the contradiction of a nation born in service to freedom with the chains of slavery intact. The actual house is now back open and fully air-conditioned to help preserve its original state.

The veterans memorial at World War II Memorial is an impressive tribute to the lost souls of WW2. The design is wonderful, and its location across from the statehouse is convenient. While it was disappointing that the fountain or waterfall wasn't operational during a visit, the memorial itself was well put together. Reading the names on the memorial hits you harder and serves as a reminder of their sacrifice. Despite being smaller than expected, it has a big impact and is very well maintained.
The World War II Memorial in Trenton is a poignant and well-designed tribute to the brave individuals who served during the war. Located prominently near the New Jersey State House, this memorial is easily accessible and makes for a meaningful quick stop. The memorial features a variety of elements that honor the service and sacrifice of New Jersey residents, including statues, plaques, and inscribed names of fallen soldiers. The central sculpture, depicting soldiers in action, is particularly striking and evokes a deep sense of respect and remembrance. Surrounding the memorial, well-maintained landscaping and benches provide a serene environment for reflection. Informative panels offer context about New Jersey's contributions to the war effort, adding an educational component to your visit. Even if you only have a brief time to spend, the World War II Memorial in Trenton is a worthwhile stop that offers a solemn and respectful commemoration of history. It’s a fitting tribute that leaves a lasting impression and deepens your appreciation for the sacrifices made during World War II.

It honors the great sacrifice to all who served and courageously defended the United States and our Allies in both the European and Pacific theaters of war. A must visit if you are ever in Trenton. You will not be disappointed.

Located in Trenton, the CURE Insurance Arena is a popular red-brick venue that hosts a variety of events including professional indoor football games, concerts, and family-friendly shows like Disney on Ice. With a seating capacity of over 10,000 people, it has welcomed renowned artists such as Cher, Bruce Springsteen, and Carrie Underwood for sold-out concerts. Additionally, the arena is home to sporting events like hockey tournaments and basketball games.
A Fantastic Venue for Events! I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cure Insurance Arena, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. The arena is spacious, well-maintained, and offers a fantastic atmosphere for concerts, sporting events, and more. The seating is comfortable, and the view from every angle is great. The staff was friendly and helpful, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience from start to finish. Parking was ample, and the location is easy to access. I highly recommend Cure Insurance Arena for anyone looking to attend a live event in a vibrant and welcoming environment. Can’t wait to return for the next event!

We saw Hot Wheels Glow and Fire! We did the pre-show meet and greets! It was awesome to be next to the trucks. We were there very early and the staff was nice enough to open the stadium a little earlier since it was freezing outside!! We found free parking nearby too!!

Nice and well organized place for concerts and all kind of shows. Traffic was well managed by the management. They do up charge for parking near arena but free parking can be find on near by streets.

Your normal arena with plenty of seating. Quite intimate. Took my family for Hot Wheels Monster Truck show. Pretty fun. My kids loved it. Good food options as well, chicken tenders, fries, burgers, hot dogs, pretzels, popcorn, icees, all the stuff families love and get.

We went here for a cheer competition. The seating was okay, but some of the chairs were tearing up or dirty. The food was overpriced and did not taste the best. I was able to see the suites at the end, and I wish my team would have went with a suite because they definitely looked worth the cost compared to general admission. You can’t bring any outside food or drinks, so be prepared to spend money because everything was pricy.

Such a great small arena with seating that gives a great view in any angle. Great food options, and family friendly. The facilities were very clean and the staff was really helpful. Bonus too that they still take cash!

Disney on ICE. It's still a great place to take the kids. The last put on a magical show. There were many police around keeping our kids and family's safe. #disneyonice

Terrible, overpriced food and badly organized parking. It's ridiculous that the parking gets closed down even when spots are available. They say it's to allow for the cars to exit, which doesn't really make sense. There's no reason people can't both exit and enter like everywhere else. They also don't have enough spots.

Artworks Trenton is a vibrant visual arts center in downtown Trenton, celebrating 50 years of success and 25 years at its current location. The center offers a wide range of art classes for all ages and an open studio for visitors to use. With three galleries, including one dedicated to student and community work, Artworks provides opportunities for artists to showcase their creations. One highlight is the annual Art All Night event, where any artist can display their work for 24 hours.
A gem in Trenton. There are lots of art-related events in the city and so often, the best ones are run by or with Artworks.

We visited for the first time to see sculpture by Clifford Ward. The space was terrific to showcase his dynamic work. The opening was jammed with art lovers, but didn't feel stifling. High ceilinged and expansive, Artworks appears to be a converted warehouse. In the back, a few artists had open studios, which was a pleasant surprise. Our only unpleasant surprise was completely empty walls near the refreshments table -- why not fill those with art or artistic textiles too (anything besides boring plain white drywall)?

A long overdue review as I've been visiting this gallery/art center for a while, even taken a few of the weekend classes here and there over the years. I'm learning that some of the top emerging artists in New Jersey can be found right here in Trenton at Artworks! Their Art All Night and Art All Day events are community centered (great for my kids and teens), and the curators/staff who run the gallery really know the local art scene. If you are an art collector and art advisor looking for fresh perspectives, Artworks is a (increasingly not-so) hidden gem. I suggest signing up for their newsletter and attending an opening reception, which makes for a fun, artsy start to a night out.

The outdoor area is beautifully landscaped with changing sculptures by both up-and-coming and renowned artists like Kiki Smith and Clement Meadmore. Visitors can enjoy moonlight tours, sculpture classes, and even host personal events on-site.
It’s absolutely beautiful here. An artists dream. The landscaping is enchanting and dreamy. The sculptures and art work are also quite alluring. The restaurant, Rats, is incredible with an amazing decorating theme inside. There is a lovely lounge area/bar inside with an inviting French-Moroccan feel. You could also eat on the patio overlooking the gorgeous pond.

Today, I had the privilege of meeting a truly remarkable and deeply talented Mexican-American artist whose work left a lasting impression on me. His art, exhibited in the East Gallery and through powerful outdoor sculptures, centers on the themes of the Mexican border wall and the broader immigrant experience. Both visually arresting and emotionally resonant, his work speaks with honesty and urgency. Through his art exhibition in the East Gallery, he addresses the complexities of the political landscape with grace, courage, and profound humanity. This experience served as a poignant reminder that, at our core, “we are all human” worthy of dignity, compassion, and respect. Art like this transcends borders, challenges division, and invites us to see one another more clearly. My deepest gratitude to Grounds For Sculpture for making this impactful event possible. And to the artist, thank you for sharing your vision, and your truth. Your work speaks volumes, and it truly matters.

Visiting Grounds For Sculpture with my family was an incredible and inspiring experience. Naively, I thought two hours would be enough—but even a quick round took us about 3.5 hours, and I could have easily spent the whole day. The grounds are huge, filled with sculptures that are funny, modern, thought-provoking, and stunning. Tip: come right at the opening to avoid the crowds. Bring water, a snack, and comfortable shoes, then give yourself permission to wander and soak it all in. There are also cozy cafés tucked into the grounds. Absolutely amazing, one of the best sculpture garden and a must-see.

We couldn’t have asked for a more magical experience — thank you for helping make our wedding day so special!

Such a great spot! I highly recommend stopping bye. If you need a nice gift, their shop has something for everyone. They also have a great collection of Trenton pottery. Also take a moment to walk around the park. If you want a good weekend trip, go-to artworks, the state museum, and here! Last I should also recommend coming here when ever the seasons change, the landscaping of this park it's amazing!

I’m giving this sleepy little museum 5 stars to hopefully get more people to go. Growing up in North Jersey I thought Trenton was a wasteland, and I was I surprised and proven wrong! It’s such a charming little city on the historic promenade of the Delaware river. This museum sits in a beautiful park that is well loved and it had a great museums shop and lots of local history. Staff is also very amenable and kind. Go for the special exhibits.

We attended for an African Mask Making workshop. It was a fun event and staff/volunteers were extremely helpful with gluing and recommendations for structuring your art. You were able to touch other actual art mask with white gloves and there was an African mask history book being passed around. Everyone was extremely friendly and introducing themselves. There were a ton of materials, snacks and family friendly from age 2-adults/couples. We were not able to see the entire museum but the grounds looked beautiful. Parking was convenient, park security at all entrances as well. After we explored the beautiful architecture of homes in neighborhood across the street afterwards (Calwaldere Heights I believe) that reminded my of my previous neighborhood NY. I would definitely recommend for families.

Very nice visit to Ellarslie today. Two artist friends had work on display so I went with friends to see their work. The museum is easily accessible through the park and the road was set up for easy parking. Staff/volunteer members were fun and informative. The display for the art exhibit comprised two floors. Most were framed work gathered nicely on the walls and a few stand alone sculptures. Some of the work was incredible. Also on view are many of the museums permanent collection. And of course a stop in the well stocked gift shop$$$. Everybody in my small group of three made purchases. Unfortunately, there was no A/C but the place was very well ventilated and although the sign on the door suggested masks, the staff went without such attire. After my glasses fogged up I removed mine as well. I only saw two other guests on this hot Friday afternoon.

Love Trenton Thunder!!!! We went during their dog friendly night, which occurs multiple times per season. Great experience. They have a small area for dogs to go to the bathroom. Our dogs loved the interaction with people and other dogs. Great family outing that is reasonable priced.

Great stadium, and Trenton thunder games are always a good time. Friends and I got a box here and it was very reasonable with good food and we weren't baking in the sun. Everyone seemed to enjoy, and we were well taken care of by the stadium staff! Security was a little pushy and rude at the end, but whatcha gonna do.

Just a great time at the ballpark. $5 parking, clean and well-kept stadium, beautiful river view. The baseball itself is not quite double or triple A but is still competitive and fun to watch. My kids enjoyed their time at the park as well and only sparingly went on their phones so points for that. But the highlight of the night without question was Rookie the bat dog. We are a dog loving family and that adorable retriever, um, retrieving the bats got the biggest cheer of the night by far. Great time and would love to see the Thunder back as a AA or AAA affiliate in the near future.

First visit in a couple of years. To me it is much more enjoyable than Major League parks, large enough to feel the crowd, yet roomy enough to get into the game without having to have field glasses to see the players. Parking was reasonable, convenient to the park. The personnel were friendly, helpful and in some instances entertaining. There were games for the kids between innings which helped keep them satisfied. The fireworks after the game were also quality and lengthy enough to satisfy most everyone. All in all it was a nice night, the game was good, the players played hard and it made it interesting. Enjoy what we did and we plan to come back soon.

Such a great show, and that's not including the game! There is always some sort of crowd competition in between innings, great food and drinks options, free merch thrown out and characters mingling with the crowd. Great night out.

The Lower Trenton Bridge has been a fantastic money-saver for me. Even though the U.S. 1 Trenton Morrisville Toll Bridge is only $1.50, I've probably saved around $50 over the past couple of years by taking the Lower Trenton Bridge instead. It only adds about 2 minutes to my trip, which is well worth it. Thank you for keeping this bridge toll-free!

This used to be true in the 30's up to the 60's not so much now, this has become a relic of what the US used to be. There is probably another bridge in China with similar wording now.

The New Jersey State Senate, housed in the historic New Jersey Statehouse, is a significant government building and museum. Constructed in 1792 by Jonathan Doane, it stands as one of the oldest statehouses in the United States. The site offers guided tours that showcase period-furnished chambers and provide insights into the state's history, art, and architecture. Visitors can explore notable rooms such as the assembly chamber, senate conference room, state house annex, and plaza.
We had the opportunity/honor to visit the New Jersey State Senate in JUL_FY2024 and it was an amazing experience, a great opportunity to learn more about NJ's history and legacy. We did a plant tour aroud since it was possible to visit, only with scheduled tour, and for sure it's a remarkable building. Definitely, it's a place that deserves my respect. It was a privilege.

I will be honest, this was a really bad state capitol, and I have been to many. Outside of the scaffolding which I know is temporary, it is not in the nicest style; state capitols usually have loads of statues and memorials, but this one only had the WWII, for which the one star is given, because it is admittedly very nice. Other than that, it is not in a nice place, and when you try to take a photo from the other side, you are/will be in the road. Lastly, it isn’t even open on weekends like every other state Capitol I’ve been to, and there are no self-guided tours. If you’re wondering why Jersey is so poorly run, look no further than here. I’d take a photo then get outta there.

A very good baseball stadium with a right size for family oriented game and events. It is clean, well maintained, and have good food service. The golden retriever of home team fetches bat back from home base and brings a lot of applause and whistles.

Quaint but at the same time NJ modern ball park currently the home of the Thunder baseball team. We decided to do our Fourth of July celebration there and it turned out to be a fantastic idea. The only down side was the incompetence of the parking staff. We waited over 1 1/2 hour in the parking lot after the game before we even reached the street. They were confused and even rude to people who were asking them questions.

I've been coming here every season consistently since 2015 with the exception of covid. This place is such a great way to mix up you week and enjoy a great game. You get all the fun of professional baseball without that hours of traffic and massively overpriced food. Come here and have a great time with friends, family, date night, or even solo.

Really nice ballpark right on the water. Plenty of parking ($5). All the staff is super friendly. Not a bad set in the house! It’s really cool when the dog comes out to grab the bats. Very fun atmosphere for adults and kids. Plenty of food options, and they have steam store. If you are looking to take in a ball game and not break the bank, this is exactly what your looking for. Hope this helps! Happy Travels!

Great development league stadium - seating is comfortable and close to the field, prices are cheap, lots of fun extras, and good food options. Originally Arm and Hammer Field (and some branding remains) since the 2021 reorganization of Minor League Baseball, the Trenton Thunder are now a summer development (MLB Draft League) team. I had an unpleasant experience in Trenton Public Library. On 3/26/21 I Went there seeking a notary. Needless to say after being questioned and what felt like interrogated for about a good half an hour. I didn't get what I came for. Instead I was given an appointment for another time. On top of that I ask to use the restroom. When the security opened the door I was greeted by this unpleasant stinking odor I Immediately had to turn away. Unable to use the restroom because it was just that bad. I never expected to be treated with such unprofessional behavior from what supposed to be one of the city most pleasant place to go for help. Very nice place. Modern and clean, lots of pastries and breads. We've gone twice for breakfast which are delicious. Nice to have a breakfast platter with an Hispanic touch, both of our platters had fried plantains, refried beans, a slice of farmers cheese, and more (besides the eggs and meat).

Mill Hill Park is a popular destination in eastern Hamilton, offering close access to the Chedoke Civic Golf Course and various community green spaces. The park features the Hill Park Recreation Centre, which includes basketball courts, a fitness center, and a swimming pool. Additionally, it hosts family fun nights and other events. In Trenton, New Jersey, Mill Hill Park is an open space along East Front Street with historical significance as the site of re-enactments of the Battles of Trenton.
This is a park in the capitol city of Trenton, New Jersey located on the banks of the Delaware River. On this day December 30th, 2023, Mill Hill Park played host to the re-enactments of the two Battles of Trenton the first on 12/26/1776 and the second one on 1/2/177. Both Battles culminated here with much fanfare and huzzahs and victory for Washington's army. The Park features a large statue of Washington at the far end of the park. We enjoyed this day and were fascinated by the firing of both cannon and muskets. The players of the day were dressed authentically and played their roles aptly.

I love this park. Very nice paths to walk through along the creek, and love the historical significance it has associated with the iron bridge in the middle. Not a lot of shade, and no benches underneath trees which is a downside, but nonetheless great place for strolling. Great location great park!!!

Simpy put, just an old fashioned open air park. There's a Thursday Farmers Market (May to October), free concert series every Thursday during the summer, plus a great safe open space in the middle of downtown Trenton. The walking trails that circle the park and close proximity to the historic section of Mill Hill, makes this park truly special.

While entry to the museum is free, there's a small fee for the planetarium shows which are worth it to support educational initiatives.
Free parking on Sundays. Great musuem with a lot of art. The planetarium show was very interesting.

I rented out the planetarium to propose to my fiance. Garland, Jacob, and Denny facilitated everything flawlessly, from making up a reason why we were the only two people in the room for the movie, to "will you marry me" being written in the stars across the screen at the end of the movie. Thank you for making our special day unforgettable!

The New Jersey State Library, established in 1796, is a treasure trove of historical resources including rare books, maps, and specialized collections like Genealogy and Jerseyana. While it was originally designed as a law library, it caters wonderfully to the general public. Visitors will find an abundance of friendly staff ready to assist with any inquiries. The library boasts ample working space and public computers, making it an ideal spot for studying or simply enjoying a good book in its tranquil atmosphere.
While designed as a law library; this library is a terrific library for the everyday layman. Always ovwrstaffed; there are no shortages of people to help you. They are kind, decent, friendly people and pleasant to work with. They have public computers and ample working space. Very under utilized. Highly recommended.

The guy working behind the counter was incredibly rude to me when all I was doing was going to the bathroom. He made me feel unsafe I don't understand why someone like that can be allowed to work here.
Chloë — Google review
For someone who can make the best of any library, this one wasn't worth the trip. There was a very rude, difficult woman with an extremely heavy accent working on the ground floor there when I visited. While I kept my feelings to myself, and didn't make a scene, I'm curious as to how she ever ended up working in a state library in the US. There’s not much else to say about this library... it's not pleasant to look at, or visit, or study. The pickings are very slim outside of the law library. There’s free garage parking. That’s the only good thing I can say about the NJ state library.

I love being able to get my hair cut as early as 6am on warren street at State Barber Shop, than being able to walk up one block to sunrise luncheonette where they know my two usual orders. Pork Roll Egg and Cheese or my breakfast platter, they typically can tell which one I'll be ordering if I am carrying the Trenton Times and or the Trentonian.

We've reached out several times seeking support for an event we’re hosting at Mill Hill Park on August 2, 2025 — the International Overdose Awareness Unity Event in the 609 — and have yet to receive a response. This day holds deep meaning for our community. It's a time to mourn those we’ve lost, and uplift those we are still loving and supporting. It’s especially disappointing given that this is the first event of its kind in the city, and we’ve made consistent efforts to engage the Downtown Trenton Association — through calls and emails — but our outreach seems to go unanswered, and at times even feels like a nuisance. We’ve done meaningful work in the downtown area, and this is not the first time we’ve struggled to get support from an organization that previously encouraged us to reach out when planning community events. The silo mentality in the 609 is real, and it’s one of the reasons our city continues to face the challenges it does. We know we’re stronger together — and collaboration, especially on something as vital as overdose awareness, should never be this hard

In reality, it's 4.7. It's not enough benches and it's not easy to find a restroom 🚻 at some spans of the trail. The pavement is not for thin tires. What is good, it is enough shade. Not so crowded, I saw the police on patrol. Fellow bicyclists and hikers behave very politely. You can rent a kayak or a canoe 🛶.

Located in Trenton, NJ, the Mill Hill Playhouse is a charming theater housed in an old church. The venue offers an intimate setting with walls adorned with art and a concession stand offering beverages and snacks for purchase. While it no longer enforces a vaccine policy, it previously required mask-wearing.
We enjoyed a wonderful show at Mill Hill! The staff was welcoming at the door, everyone was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is super cool, with the exposed stone of the original church. Seating and temperature was comfortable and the production quality was great! We saw Alma and cried a lot, but also laughed. Staff provided a recommendation for dinner at the Station to accommodate vegetarians and overall we had a great time in Trenton. Would highly recommend.

The theater has welcomed renowned artists and entertainers such as The Philadelphia Orchestra and American Ballet Theater.
I went here for the Trenton Fire Department promotion ceremony, which included the promotion of Trenton's first female captain. It is a beautiful old, well-maintained theater. My only complaint was Parking. There is a deck about a block and a half away. But it's not obvious when you get there unless you know about it.
Selket D — Google review
Stately building with history and a historic feel. Well maintained for a state government cultural asset. ( not sure if it’s a state or county property). The sound and acoustics on the lower level are very very good. Makes the balcony sound feel Inferior. However the art / decor are very pleasing. Chairs very comfy. Weekend parking is a breeze and there is some street parking if you drive around. However, despite me noticing the presence of 3 janitors the restroom directions are not marked clearly. We went to the basement and even tho the rooms were operational the janitor there had them cordoned off and sent us back upstairs. Then it took are a little run around and another janitor literally walked us to one. The restrooms are just fine. However the event we attended had about only 200 people yes the trash was overflowing in the men’s room ! Little embarrassing for a magnanimous place such as this. Worth attending at least one event here. Especially something with music / theatrical.

The establishment was satisfactory. The complimentary parking was a welcome amenity, and the visible police presence contributed to a sense of security. While the staff's demeanor could have been more welcoming, it is understood that this is Trenton.

The theater is antique and very lovely. The lighting inside the theatre was very impressive. The dim lighting effect is nice for dance competitions. It was cool but not freezing inside the theatre. Some of the seats should be , as they were broken. Overall the seats were soft and comfy. The sound quality was also good - probably because the theatre was designed with sound effects in mind; the music filled the theater in a delightful, crispy way 👏👏 The exterior of the Theatre is very majestic & impressive. We were there on a very rainy, gray day. I'm sure it will stand out even better in the sunlight. Bathrooms were clean. Dressing rooms were also comfortable and spacious.

Parking is also easily accessible downtown and the theatre is also easily accessible in downtown Trenton through 29 or local roads. A great place to stop if visiting Trenton.
Chris W — Google review
I went there for a concert venue, first time at this place. Parking is there, free, limited and poorly organized: took us at least 45 min just to leave the lot. Better of find some street spots. The building itself is not designed to handle music venues, acoustics are awful. And only non alcoholic drinks for sale. Seriously, some open stadium place would work better

They encouraged the youth and the parents about taking care of each other and baseball being a great vehicle to do it. Then the teams played ball!! Let's go Trenton!!!

I was having a day that started out with a psychotic snap. All a tizzy, hadnt known who to turn to to ease my mind and thoughts that had not been really pretty. Got in the vehicle and drove over. Can't help but cry EVERY time i sit on that bench. I dont know how he did it without violence. 😔

33Watson Woods

Park
Watson Woods is a hidden gem with a network of trails like Island Trails, Watson Woods Trail, and Abbott Brook Trail. The area features unique sights such as a makeshift bridge known as "Shakey bridge" and tree stumps crossing the river. It's perfect for dog walking with two distinct trails leading from different entrances but converging at the same point. The woods are teeming with diverse flora and fauna, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts.
I love walking my dogs through these woods. It has 2 different trails, one that is closer to Independence Avenue and the other is more into the actual park. There’s 4 entrances into the trails (2 for each) and it all leads you back to the same place so you won’t get lost. My favorite part is the tree stumps that cross you over the river.

This place looks like one of those little kept secrets that only the adventurous wander into. A lot of cool trails that lead to different sights. There's even a man made bridge that looks like someone just grabbed a bunch of wood and cords and whatever they could to create a bridge. Someone wrote on a sign nearby "Shakey bridge"

34Stacy Park

Park
Stacy Park, located along the Delaware River in Trenton, offers a charming riverside experience. The park features ample riverfront benches and artwork, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll. One of its main attractions is the visually striking Shaky Bridge, gifted to the city by John A. Roebling, known for designing the Brooklyn Bridge. Additionally, visitors can learn about Mahlon Stacy's role in Trenton's history through informative plaques within the park.
Mahlon Stacy Park is a little slice of pretty right alongside Route 29 South in Trenton. Mr. Stacy was pivotal in the establishment of Trenton as a city proper. Read the plaque and you'll see what I mean. However, the draw for me here was a bridge built by John A. Roebling & Sons in 1908. Yes, that's correct... a Roebling bridge right under our noses with little to no acknowledgment. Shame! Shame! In any case, the historic "Shakey Bridge", so called because, well, it shakes when you walk on it, was both an act of good citizenship and an advertisement for the bridge builder when it was constructed at an enormously discounted price for the City of Trenton Waterworks. This gorgeous little suspension span very closely mirrors the design of the bridge that Roebling built at Niagara Falls. It was too much fun visiting this little treasure on a quiet Sunday in Trenton.

I had an enjoyable experience at the Trenton Fire Department on Perry Street last Friday. The firefighters kindly hosted a gathering for Hannah, who loves pizza, and her family. They prepared delicious homemade pizzas from scratch. In addition to the delightful meal, I had the opportunity to explore the impressive Meredith Havens Fire Museum and view their collection of fire trucks. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and camaraderie as I interacted with the Chief, Captain, and other firefighters.
We had a great time with the Trenton Fire Department on Perry Street this past Friday, July 7th, 2023. Once the firefighters discovered that pizza was Hannah's favorite food, they invited our family to sample homemade pizzas made from scratch! While there, we also had a chance to tour the tremendous Meredith Havens Fire Museum and the fire trucks on sight. Our son pitched in, as always, to help out in the kitchen, and it was great to laugh and joke with the Chief, Captain, and other firefighters amid their camaraderie. We highly recommend that if you are in the Trenton area, to stop there one day to greet and wish them well and to visit the firefighter museum, which has memorabilia back over 200 years! They are always open, 24 hours each day!

Amazing, hidden gem!!! Go around to the back, on Allen St., and get one of the friendly firefighters to let you in & show you around. It is attached to the main Trenton Fire Department headquarters. 👍👍

38Anchor Thread Park

Park
Anchor Thread Park, situated in the Groveville area of Hamilton, spans 3.25 acres on the former Anchor Thread Mill grounds and runs alongside Crosswicks Creek. It has been transformed into a serene recreational spot with walking paths, seating areas, a historic gazebo, and a canoe launch for creek access. While some visitors enjoy fishing and picturesque views of the creek, others caution about muddy areas near the canoe launch.
This place is very chill. Some people fish down here but I do have to say it does get pretty muddy down by the canoe launch so just be careful. There isn’t a lot of walking trails so it mainly just land with a gazebo and some old abandoned factories. Overall Anchor Thread Park is a really good place to look at Crosswicks Creek or just to take pictures.

The Civil War & Native American museum is housed in a quaint tenant house dating back to 1730, situated behind the Abbott House in Veterans Park. Open on select weekends, this museum has been welcoming visitors for three years. It offers intriguing exhibits featuring artifacts from the American Civil War and Delaware Indian culture. A must-visit for history enthusiasts, it's a place that provides an immersive experience into these significant historical periods.
A really fascinating place for history buffs...hope they can reopen like normal again soon!
