Brewery
American restaurant
Bar & grill
Located in downtown Rapid City, Firehouse Brewing Company is South Dakota's first brewpub, housed in a renovated firehouse built in 1915. The establishment offers a casual and fun environment to enjoy house-brewed beers and flavorful lunch and dinner options. In addition to their brewery, they also have Firehouse Wine Cellars producing traditional wines sourced from top growers, including their local vineyard.
This place is probably worth a visit, they have a nice beer selection and a full bar, the food was good, the service was good amd atmosphere was inviting. We walked to the restaurant from our hotel a couple blocks away but there is a public parking garage and street parking if you drive in. We sat in the patio area which is very nice when the bi polar weather is full effect in Rapid City. The patio has a big screen which they play sporting events on, go with the boys, the family or a date I think its suitable for all. I had the gumbo which was different from the gumbo I am used to but it works! I also ordered the Bison Lasagna which wasn't to bad either. The Wife ordered Mushrooms which were amazing, I've had better fish and chips before but these were pretty good as well, the coleslaw was amazing 👏
Gurpinder V — Google review
Great atmosphere, specially with their outdoor section being mostly covered. The entire building is amazing and a wonderful use of old buildings downtown. I tastes a couple of their beer selection and enjoyed them for the most part. No standouts, but I liked them.
Mehrdad M — Google review
Atmosphere is super cool and loved the decor! Food was pretty good. I had the BBQ sandwich, had a nice smoke to it but nothing special. My parents loved their food.
Rachel W — Google review
The service was great. The food was good, but just regular bar food. I did expect more based on the signs and advertisements for miles and miles on the interstate. But I got what I should have expected. Nothing wrong, just basic menu and the place is packed with tourist. Good experience and lots of people watching.
Brian C — Google review
A very nice place to eat. The staff was welcoming and the food was decent. I had a Ruben and my wife had the farmer's pie. We both were happy with our meals. The prices are reflective of a downtown establishment in a touristy place. There are a lot of choices for both beer and food for almost any eater. The restaurant was clean and efficient. The firefighter patches were a nice touch. It is walking distance from a lot of downtown hotels which makes it a nice place to eat in Rapid City.
Jason — Google review
Does not live up to the hype. Yes it was awesome seeing all the firetrucks for miles and miles coming into Rapid City but the actual food and experience wasn't up to par especially for the prices. Went in on a weekend at the end of June. Food: Was overpriced and very bland. Nothing special. Waiting 40 mins for overpriced food is not a great time especially after driving 12+ hours. Family had ribs, pulled pork, a burger, fish tacos, and chicken nuggets. Waitress was very nice and did a good job. Atmosphere: Very cool location, building, and decore. We were seated inside and it was so loud you almost had to yell to converse. Overall we would try other options if in the area.
Matt B — Google review
Da beans were so good! I had the South African cricket burger... delicious! Curds were different but very melty good. The loaded nachos could feed 6 people. My beer was very tastey! Service was excellent. The atmosphere is nice, theme is spot on, great bar... But some of our party wasn't as impressed so your experience may very.
Ben P — Google review
We enjoyed our dinner and beer at the Firehouse Brewing Company. Honestly after reading some of the negative reviews my wife said let’s move on after our beer. But I said I wanted to give it a try. We weren’t disappointed. My fish & chips were good and Judy’s pulled pork sandwich was excellent. She had beans as her side and said it reminded her of the beans her mom use to make. All in all, a great stop. I’d definitely come back. 👍

Reptile Gardens is a long-standing zoo located on Highway 16, offering an extensive range of reptile exhibits, bird shows, and even a greenhouse. It holds the title of the world's largest reptile zoo according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Visitors can get up close with various reptiles while feeling safe as the venomous ones are securely contained.
Absolutely amazing experience. Lots of fun things to do here. The staff are really friendly. The shows are put on very well and the girls love the excitement! Our favorite exhibit was the Koi fish and the giant turtles, the lady who was running the turtle exhibit, was super knowledgeable and told us all about them and about how most of their turtles are rescues, and how they take care of them. They have so many crazy snakes You could literally go through fifteen times and still learn something new. Overall all 10/10 would do again!
BryAnna T — Google review
Reptile Gardens was such an amazing experience for the whole family! The huge gift shop was fun to explore, and the dome is incredible — absolutely filled with fascinating creatures and so well done. We loved how interactive everything was. Getting to pet the giant tortoises was such a highlight, and the snake and crocodile shows were both really entertaining and educational. They even let you touch a snake and a crocodile after each show, which was awesome! There’s also a themed playground for the kids that fit perfectly with the park. Overall, it was a fantastic visit — definitely recommend stopping here if you’re in the area!
Kristen W — Google review
We loved it! They do a snake and gator show 5 times a day throughout the day. The shows are entertaining and educational. The brothers Joe and Dane were humorous through their shows and are amazing, they show they enjoy what they do. Once theyre done with their shows they let you pet the animals. Theres a dome to keep the birds they have (we only spotted 3) from flying out while people walk around. They also have a HUGE crocodile "Manic, giant crocodile." Pictures do not do it justice. A little play area and sand box for kids to let them run around on (next to where they do the snake show). And the Tortuises would have to be our favorite. They have 1 that is 120 years old and its just really cool that you can walk near them and pet them as they eat. They have military discount and an amazing gift shop with such friendly staff.
Logo C — Google review
Amazing experience!!! You cannot miss the Reptile Gardens when you visit SD! We had so much fun! The gardens are absolutely BEAUTIFUL and the jungle in the dome is breathtaking! The snake and alligator shows were fascinating and Joey was GREAT! The kiddos got to touch a boa constrictor and a baby alligator and the giant tortoises:) They really do have the largest selection of venomous snakes and it was fun trying to spot the little lizards in the dome jungle:) We had fun taking pics at the old western town area and enjoyed some delicious lunch and ice cream:) Loved the gift shop, too! And all the staff were so nice:) A special "thank you" to Lillee;) We would definitely recommend seeing the Reptile Gardens!!!
Charles B — Google review
My children loved observing the crocodile show and being able to pet the baby crocodile. The tortoise were absolutely beautiful. I felt so bad for the birds that were tied up though. I don’t think I could visit again because it broke my heart to know they couldn’t move very much at all. The place makes enough money with how much they charge they could absolutely give them birds their own cages and not have them tied up for show.
Mckenzie R — Google review
We've been several times and nothing has really changed! Great collection of reptiles/amphibians. We enjoy the dome and the gator and snake shows- be sure to see those! We had burgers at the cafe which were pretty decent as well, pricey but good portion. Grounds, bathrooms and other areas are always clean and welcoming!
Wyndi W — Google review
This was our second time here, the first was back in 2019. We had a great time both visits. The alligator and snake shows are entertaining, and the large tortoises you can interact with are really neat. The collection of snakes is amazing as well, I believe it's the largest I've ever personally seen. We didn't eat much but we did spring for the WI cheese curds, and being from WI we weren't expecting to be impressed, but they were darn good and you get a fair amount.
Kris C — Google review
we had a really great experience here! We arrived shortly before 8am when they opened and the parking lot was empty. We were able to park our 45ft camper along the back edge of the lot and there were also dedicated spots for other trailers which I appreciated. Off the bat, the lady at the entrance was very friendly. My daughter scraped her knee outside and she offered us a bandaid from her first aid kit and gave my kiddos a couple pencils which helped cheer the injured one up. The worker in the dome was very interactive and found us whenever she spotted another reptile in the dome to show our kids. We also stayed and watched the snake show and some of the gator show and it was very entertaining. The food was also good! So happy we stumbled across this place! Well worth the money and time spent.

Breakfast restaurant
Diner
Tally's Silver Spoon, located in downtown Rapid City, has a rich history dating back to the 1930s. The restaurant offers a blend of classic comfort food and fine dining, creating a unique "fine diner" experience. Chef Benjamin Klinkel, a Le Cordon Bleu graduate, showcases his culinary expertise through an upscale New American menu that includes dishes like curried mussels rouille, root beer bison, and Wagyu tenderloin.
From the moment we walked in, Tally’s Silver Spoon gave off a vibe that was both upscale and unpretentious. It somehow pulls off that rare balance—feeling classy without being stuffy, cozy without being kitschy. Our server was genuinely kind and helpful, offering smart recommendations and answering all our questions without rushing us. It felt like she actually wanted us to enjoy our meal—not just turn a table. And the food? Creative, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. It wasn’t just “good for Rapid City” or “good for a vacation town”—it was flat-out excellent. If I lived nearby, I’d be a regular. If you’re looking for something memorable while you’re in the Black Hills area, Tally’s absolutely earns the hype.
David M — Google review
Our waitress Davinna apparently just started here but she crushed it! They have a really fun "Indecision" tasting menu here where the Chef just does what they want for X number of courses. It was delicious. Pork Loin and Compressed Pears, Salad with a delicious Egyption topping, Duck, and a hearty steak. It was immaculate.
Noah D — Google review
Great of the greatest! That place honestly deserved at least 2 of Michelin Guide stars. Harmony of tastes and freshness is indescribable. You must try everything! From each salad to each desert, everything was mouthwatering. Extra joy for us brought the waitress, thank you Justice for such proper explanation and welcoming and professional service.
Vladislava K — Google review
Stoped in for breakfast before my flight out— was told it was a must-try! The service was phenomenal, friendly and attentive. I had the breakfast BLT. Eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly, it was well seasoned and very filling. Good drip coffee as well. My server was fantastic. The kitchen was a bit behind, which he let me know. When I told him I may need to take my food to-go due to my flight, he made sure it was done with enough time to enjoy.
Kait B — Google review
Hands down the best place for breakfast, brunch, or dinner in Rapid City. Tally's Silver Spoon is one of the best restaurants I've been too in years. The staff, atmosphere, and location are great. There is plenty of parking nearby at the city garage which is free evenings, weekends, and holidays. They offer indoor and outdoor seating weather dependent. The food... It's just spectacular. So much of it is made in house. From the pancake batter, sausage gravy, syrup, and more, I haven't had food that tasted as fresh as this in ages! Their pasta is made in house and is delicious! I'm not normally a fan of Chicken Fried Steak, but their's is amazing. It blew my socks off! I travel often and have lived in DC and just outside of Boston and the food here can easily compete with anything I've had in either place. The prices are super reasonable and I have nothing negative to say. TRY TALLY'S!
Chris B — Google review
Good golly what a fantastic dining experience. I didn’t have a reservation for dinner however, the host kindly sat me right away. Everything from service to the food itself was amazing. I will always remember this restaurant!
Alyssa C — Google review
Exquisite. The bison burger was delicious it was cooked perfectly and the waiter we had was terrific. My lady had the buffalo Marsala and it was also amazing. If I ever return to SD I’d come here again… don’t forget to try the dessert!!

Super delicious and great quality food! I got the Duck, Duck, Goose with sourdough and the Buffalo Steak Sandwich medium rare with the Hollandaise on the side. Both were absolutely fantastic! Thank you!

Storybook Island is a charming park featuring playground attractions inspired by characters and locations from beloved children's books. Spanning 8.5 acres, the park hosts over 100 playsets, including iconic figures such as Cinderella, the Cat in the Hat, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Winnie the Pooh's treehouse, and more.
This was such a nice add to our trip! And best of all it’s free!! My kids 8 and 6 loved it, thank you!! If you want to ride the train it’s $2 and the carousel is $3 each ride.
Courtney R — Google review
I absolutely adored Storybook Island — it was a dream come true for my kids! From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere feels straight out of a storybook. You walk through castle gates over a charming drawbridge, passing a sparkling pond with ducks, whimsical water features, and playful pretend animals. Rapunzel hangs her golden hair from the castle tower, with a prince climbing up to meet her — such a magical and enchanting welcome! There is so much space for kids to run and play among adorable storybook-themed displays. The train ride was a highlight, and at just $3 per rider, it was very reasonable, especially since admission to the park is free. The beautiful carousel inside a covered pavilion felt absolutely precious, and the friendly staff helped the kids hop on their horses with care. Disney-style storybook music plays throughout the park, adding to the fairytale wonder. We loved the playful drinking fountains shaped like a lion and a hippopotamus, the pirate ship with its little pond and bridge, and the playground for kids 5 and under — all clean, safe, and spread out beautifully. Shady trees and plenty of benches made it easy to relax and take it all in. Each bench had a placard honoring its donor, and there were beautiful engraved stones along the pathways with names of people who contributed — a lovely reminder that the park is funded through donations and community generosity. Storybook Island is operated by the Rotary Club of Rapid City and welcomes donations to help keep the magic going. There’s also a cute little gift shop packed with tempting souvenirs, and an ice cream shop on site that wasn’t open yet when we arrived but probably operates later in the day. Overall, Storybook Island is pure childhood magic brought to life — whimsical, charming, and absolutely worth a visit. Highly recommend!

I loved this place so much! It is a must see if you are in the Rapids City area and have kids. It is set up very nicely, well maintained and free. My kids were not the only ones that had fun; I thoroughly enjoyed myself! I only have a few suggestions: An Alice in Wonderland piece would have been neat to see, and a bigger magnet selection in the gift shop (I love magnets!). Visit.Have Fun.Donate!
Emily A — Google review
My kids love this park anytime we are in the area. It has so many fun scenes to interact with your favorite story book characters. The children of all ages enjoyed exploring and interacting with the scenes. For a small fee of $3 you can ride the train or carousel 🎠. Entrance to the park is free. No pets inside the gate. Ample parking and even a rv/bus strip for us out of towners
Julie E — Google review
Lovely park themed in classic childhood comic characters. The park doesn’t have an entrance and is so cool to just walk through. Really special place for Rapid City.
Kevin W — Google review
I have two little kids under 5 and they really enjoyed it here. My husband and I did too! The park was very pretty! Kids loved the carousel, the train, and the park near the middle! We will be back!
Jessica M — Google review
Cute family friendly place. They remodeled some stuff and removed some beloved characters from when I visited as a kid but overall it was nice . Cheap ticket rides for the carousel and train.

Five-Star Review for the Sky Bar at Hotel Alex Johnson The Sky Bar at the Hotel Alex Johnson is an absolute gem in Rapid City! From the moment you step onto the rooftop, you’re greeted with breathtaking panoramic views of the Black Hills and downtown. Whether you’re catching a sunset or enjoying the twinkling city lights, the atmosphere is unbeatable. The drink selection is top-notch, with a great variety of craft cocktails, wines, and local beers. The bartenders are friendly, knowledgeable, and make fantastic recommendations. The ambiance is stylish yet comfortable, with cozy fire pits and plenty of seating to enjoy the view. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, the Sky Bar is a must-visit for a memorable night out in Rapid City. Highly recommend! Thank you all so much for an amazing first experience!

Just stopped in for a drink on the rooftop bar. Cool spot. Pricey drinks, but they were good. You're paying for the vibe. Great views. If just sitting outside, get your drinks at the bar then sit outside. Located within the hotel. To get there, enter the hotel lobby and take a right to the elevator up to the 10th floor. There are two levels to sit outside. There was a cool guy up there playing records inside. Nice on a good weather day. Metered street parking nearby is easy, free after 6.

The staff at Vertex did an AMAZING job preparing and serving our wedding dinner. Alexis made us an absolutely gorgeous cake and Emilio and staff went above and beyond to ensure the night was perfect. The food was phenomenal! Thank you for making us the perfect dinner!

Where to start on this…. I guess at the front door where we met annually nice and sincer Gentleman who gave us our card pass and instructions how to get to Juniper since we have never been there. Met an Awesome young man in the elevator who worked there and gave us an over view of Juniper and what to expect. Greeted by Jamie and led to our table looking east over the city!!! Great view. Jamie was also our server and helped and made suggestions for our meal!! She was SUPER SWEET and knew her job…. And was soooo much fun as she helped make this a Special Evening for my wife and I. We started out with an appetizer of Bread with French Baguette bread, Garlic Butter, Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil… one of my favorites!! My wife ordered the the Roasted Beet Salad and I a Caesar Salad. Both Excellent!!! Our Main entrée was Wild Caught Alaskan Halibut and I had the Steak Special with Scallops. Both Dishes were INCREDIBLE!!! The flavor of her Halibut was outstanding and I would order anytime. But I have to say about my steak…. It was the BEST STESK I’ve had in Rapid City in the 51 years I’ve live here. Cooked to PERFECTION (Med Rare) with the most outstanding sear that added sooo much flavor!!! Only place that compares to this is Mortan’s Steak House in St. Louis. This was Truley a night for us to remember with the view of Rapid City at night, the EXCELLENT FOOD and SERVICE!! I can’t Thank Jamie, the Chefs and Staff for making our Night Out one to remember!!!!!
Rich N — Google review
We've been visiting Juniper since their Sheridan Lake Road location, and the food has been consistently great. Our most recent visit was no exception: the filet in particular was perfect in every way and remains the best we've had in SD by far. The service has largely been wonderful. The only reason for less than five stars was the service at our most recent visit - this was the first time we've ever been made to feel we were not worth a server's time. Karla was visibly annoyed when we needed to make any request of her, walking away while we were still talking and with even an eye roll at one point. It unfortunately put a bit of a damper on a special evening.
Trey E — Google review
Unacceptable Negligence and Lack of Accountability My companion was served an alcoholic beverage—discovered only after consumption—after explicitly ordering a virgin cocktail. This is not a simple mistake; it is a dangerous service failure with potential liability. I informed staff that my companion was on medication sensitive to alcohol and had never consumed alcohol previously. Management's response was wholly inadequate. The drink was replaced with only a cursory "sorry," and no further attempt was made to rectify their error. We were charged the full amount for an evening their negligence ruined. For an establishment of this supposed caliber and price point, this demonstrated a shocking lack of professionalism and concern for guest safety. We will not be returning. I emailed them in response to their response below and they never got back to me. Absolutely awful.

The bison short ribs with the shaved onions, mushrooms, and beet sauce were incredible. Nice view as well, we were seated in a romantic alcove for people celebrating their anniversary. My wife enjoyed the pork tenderloin.

The Mud Hole of the Black Hills is a small cafe located in the heart of Rapid City. It serves delicious breakfast items at a price that is more than fair, and it has an antique store atmosphere mixed with a dive diner feel. The people working there are friendly and the customers are frequently seen dining there. Additionally, the coffee is superb.
We stopped in for breakfast with our School of Mines student before leaving town to head home. The Biscuits and Gravy brought us in, and honestly, they're better than the ones my wife makes! Cool homey atmosphere and very reasonable prices. I can't wait to come back and try lunch!

Definitely an interesting little spot definitely hole in the wall not open very much only from 7 to 11:00 Monday through Friday good food like to say everything is homemade sausage patties aren't but the gravy and biscuits are awesome definitely worth it you can make it in

We came in not knowing what to expect and pleasantly surprised off of an 8 hour car ride starving <3 this place is absolutely delicious! I got a fat ass Hashbrown onions and peppers, smothered in gravy. Honestly it's probably the absolute best breakfast I've ever had at a restaurant (I'm not a breakfast for breakfast person) my party of 8 (one child) everyone has absolutely loved there meal and we all cleaned our plates for the most part lol. Listening to the chef cooking and singing rockin and rolling the kitchen made me smile you can tell he loves it.... (I've been a opener/chef for a small coffee and Bistro for a few years, cook in general) my heart is full. Traveling from mn if I ever get back here I'll absolutely stop, amazing portions, amazing flavors, amazing staff and the vibes are perfect <3
Sarah S — Google review
Now don't get me wrong just because I give "atmosphere" only a 3. I do that because "Mud Hole" isn't for everyone. It is the very epitome of a "hole in the wall". It's part restaurant, part garage sale, part local dive. In short - it's Freaking Wonderful! It's hard for me to get there during business hours since I don't live very near, but literally EVERY TIME I'm near there during business hours, it is Always my first choice for breakfast! LOVE the place! Great Chicken Fried Steak with eggs and hash browns!
Mr. D — Google review
This place is super rad definitely worth a stop. The atmosphere is super cozy and feels like you're at a family get together. The food was insanely delicious and portions were great in size. Also the price here is amazing for the quality of food. If I'm driving through again I'm definitely stopping back here.

I ordered bacon and it was cooked more than I like - I normally just get on with it. I knew I’d be miserable if I did that today so I asked if they could recook it - less cooked. The staff quickly redid the order, no fuss, no quibble ❤️ The bacon and the toast was exactly as I wanted it. My breakfast (a bacon butty for those in the know) was perfect, tasted delicious and my day was set. Thank you 😊

What a great hole in the wall restaurants. Small charming, the waitress’s are very friendly and quick. The kitchen is open and can see what the cook is doing which I found intriguing. Food was awesome and prepared quickly and extremely tasty. I highly recommend this place to anyone. If your in the area and need a good breakfast, this is the place to go.

Que Pasa Cantina is a vibrant and spacious Mexican eatery with a patio, offering classic Mexican dishes and an extensive tequila list. The restaurant prides itself on using the best ingredients and authentic cooking methods to create modern Mexican cuisine. Their menu features traditional favorites like Carnitas, Enchiladas, and Burritos alongside fresh new dishes. The lively atmosphere and delicious food make it a great spot for families to enjoy flavorful options from tacos to enchiladas.
Came here after driving 14 hours into Rapid City and we were not disappointed! Our server Elijah was attentive and energetic even while handling sections intakes and outside. I enjoyed the pork belly tacos and really appreciated how the beans tasted home-made rather than canned. My husband loved his brisket torta and it literally devoured it in minutes. They were hosting a party on the patio too which seems so fun! What a great place, we can’t wait to return!

The restaurant is very nice, with a pleasant atmosphere that invites you to linger. Everything was very clean and well-maintained, which is always appreciated. The service was excellent: the lady who served us was very friendly, attentive, and always attentive to our needs. As for the food, although it was well presented and portioned adequately, the flavor wasn't entirely convincing. It could be improved in that regard to match the rest of the experience, which was very good.

Tasty Mexican food with a dedicated gluten free menu (thank you). Not good enough to want to return ... Enchiladas were good, small, not terribly flavorful. Atmosphere is excellent.

Chips and salsa were great, and elote dip was great as well. I thought the tacos were on the salty side... The waiter was pretty friendly and attentive. Multiple tables were left with food in the outdoor seating area, which caused birds to become an issue.

We made this a must stop while at Sturgis before we headed back home to Nashville. Rad was the best! Great service, food was outstanding and the atmosphere was just perfectly authentic.

Food was good and drinks even better. However, They were clearly short staffed for servers when we came in for lunch. The table was sopping wet when we sat down.

Pretty decent Mexican food, for being so far away from Mexico. My chair was so worn out that I sank so far down that the table came up to my boobs. I moved to a different table with different chairs, and everything was fine. When I got there at 8:24PM, the host said, "we close at 6 minutes." To which I replied, "can you serve me within 6 minutes?"

Murphy's Pub & Grill is a modern Irish pub offering both classic and updated pub fare, along with a patio featuring fire pits. Established in 1933, this iconic Rapid City establishment underwent a significant renovation in 2011, transforming it into an upscale gastropub while retaining its historical charm.
Went for St. Patrick's Day. The atmosphere and the food was excellent. Had the fish and chips. They were every bit as good as I had in Ireland. The Firehouse doesn't have the best in town like they claim. They are far superior here! Beer battered to perfection. Enjoyed with a nice tall Guinness. Can't wait to go back.

8/2/25 Enjoyed a delicious dinner at Murphy’s. Wonderful server. Many different seating options. Next I’ll try and sit at the Awesome bar or on the patio.

The overall vibe of this place is great. Very welcoming and definitely has seating and a bar that inspires conversations. I have to give some criticism though, you can't be an Irish bar and deliver a Guinness that badly poured to a customer. We know it takes time, so take the time. I would definitely come back for the vibe, but not for the Guinness. I heard the food was really good, hopefully will experience it next time.

Great restaurant with delicious food. My hotel gave me a free appetizer so I decided to check it out. The fancy pickles were delicious and my meatloaf dinner was even better. My bartender(Andrea?) was awesome and we chatted it up about life. Definitely check this place out if you're in RC.

Loved this place so much, we dined 2 days in a row. The asparagus was one of my favorites. We split the mac and cheese with pulled pork as an app and pictured is my chicken wrap, sweet fries, and said asparagus. Service was quick and super friendly

Food was great, only knock was an extra charge for salsa if you want another bowl. Im not a fan of mushrooms at all, but our friendly waitress ensured me it was cooked in and I'd never know. She was right and the sandwich was a hit...

I would recommend this place. While I did like the Rueben, it was not my favorite. The sweet potato fries with the maple bacon butter stole the show. The waitress was amazing and ensured our dog was taken care of as well as we were.

Steak house
Dakotah Steakhouse, located on the outskirts of Rapid City, offers a unique dining experience that celebrates the region's rich ranching history. The grand ranch-style building features a welcoming interior with wooden beams and a roaring fireplace. The menu is steak-centric, featuring options like the legendary 28-ounce bone-in rib-eye cowboy steak, lamb chops, and elk ravioli. Additionally, the restaurant offers Thanksgiving-inspired dishes perfect for social gatherings.
My meal at Dakotah Steakhouse was absolutely amazing! I tried the fry bread, walleye fish fingers, and buffalo satay, and every dish was bursting with flavor. The fry bread was perfectly golden and crispy, the walleye fish fingers were tender and seasoned just right, and the buffalo satay was incredibly juicy and delicious. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with a rustic charm that made the dining experience even more enjoyable. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring everything was perfect throughout the meal. I highly recommend Dakotah Steakhouse for anyone looking to enjoy unique, flavorful dishes and excellent service. I’ll definitely be back to try more!

I really enjoyed this steakhouse. I have had better steaks, but not at this price. Service was good, drinks were never empty. The sides and appetizers were tasty. We ordered the tomahawk medium rare and it came out just right.
Brian M — Google review
Cool place, but they were busy on a Wednesday afternoon. Pros: Steaks (and bison), fried bread and butter, hostess and waiter were nice, and clean Western style interior. Also the drinks were good (including Guiness). Cons: They were out of the honey glazed carrots and the brussel sprouts were shredded instead of whole (I prefer the texture of whole or cut in half sprouts). The wagon wheel potatoes were over seasoned.
Käea B — Google review
Just not it. Went in for an evening reservation for 2 adults and still had to wait past our reservation time to be seated. Waited long for drinks beyond the complimentary immediate water. Ordered entrees and waited long again. The glazed carrots somehow were cooked (steamed?) but tasted raw with no glaze. Instead there was a sauce dripped over the carrot sticks. Multiple ounces of the 16oz prime rib were just fat and gristle, more than would ever be expected from a prime rib. Service was slow and not the most attentive. Spent 1.75 hours for 1 drink and 1 entree and only spent about 20 minutes of that consuming the food and drink. Chain steakhouses have the same quality steaks, sides, and service at 1/4 of the price. Genuinely baffled how this restaurant gets good reviews, must be good marketing focused on offering buffalo meat?
K D — Google review
I HIGHLY recommend Dakotah Steakhouse! I made a reservation for Saturday (and I'm glad I did, because this place was hopping) and my table was ready the moment I arrived. The atmosphere was welcoming, yet sophisticated. My server, Jesse, was friendly, informative on the menu, and prompt with service. My cocktail was well prepared and my filet was cooked to perfection! The fry bread was a delicious addition as well. I was very impressed with the price point, given the high degree of quality! 10/10, will absolutely be back!
Anna H — Google review
The service was amazing! The facility was very clean 🥰. The food I found was lacking in flavor… in fact I was reaching for the salt to give it a more flavor so that was a little disappointing. The roles were pretty good to me. They remind me of a funnel cake. Would I recommend going here? Yes… in fact we travel through here often & I would like to see if the flavor improves.
Diane — Google review
We started with walleye appetizers, and they were delicious. We ordered a $70 steak, med rare, but it was brought out cooked medium. I'm not sure what the deal was with our waitress, but she had an offput unhappy attitude. She also couldn't be bothered to clean our plates between courses. My husband had to ask her to clear a few plates to make room for our main entree. We arrived early and there were barely any customers so she wasn't so busy that she couldn't have cleared our dishes without being asked. After she delivered our entree, she didn't return to inquire if we needed anything or to ask how the steak was. I expect better service and servers with better attitudes at a higher end steakhouse. In the past, we received excellent service and steaks cooked to order until last night. Very disappointed.

Took my cousin and his wife here while traveling here for his birthday. Our waitress made the evening (Crystal) was an absolute joy. Funny and gave perfect recommendations. We had the filets, a hamburger, the walleye, wedge salad and two bottles of wine. Steaks were tender and flavorful, hamburger juicy and cooked perfectly, the walleye was (I had) amazing (it came with a sauce but it’s not needed). The only item we didn’t care for was the Brussel sprouts, they were not cooked enough for my liking. Two people also got the wedge and tortellini soup, very good! The prices were very reasonable also. Thank you Crystal for your service and indulging my cousin.

Colonial House Restaurant & Bar is a beloved American diner known for its hearty meals and warm hospitality. The restaurant offers a nostalgic charm and uses local, seasonal produce to create popular breakfasts and other classic American dishes. One of the highlights of any visit is the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked caramel rolls, which are a favorite among loyal diners. The spacious eatery can accommodate large groups and serves in-house bakery dishes throughout the day, including dinner, lunch, and breakfast.
Fantastic place! We were there before and came back to have a brunch. The people working there, from the entrance until the payment were absolutely awesome. Menu is delish, you won't be wrong with the food here.

Stopped in for lunch and enjoyed the Chicky Dilly sandwhich. Only negative is the booths in the center are very tight and when we asked to move they said all the booths were the same amount of room which didn't seem true. However they gave us a table and we enjoyed our food and service.

We’re in South Dakota on vacation and happened to come across this place — and we’re so glad we did! The breakfast was absolutely amazing. The chicken fried steak was cooked perfectly, and the scramble was delicious. But the real standout? The pancakes! In my opinion, they’re a must-try — especially with the vanilla caramel sauce. The staff were equally fantastic: friendly, courteous, and made us feel right at home. Highly recommend stopping here if you’re in the area!

I have ate the Colonial House for many years. My recent visit was good. I was greeted by a friendly upon entering the restaurant. Hector was a great server! He is incredibly attentive and remember a previous order. One basic thing that I fault servers for not keeping my drink topped off. Hector did fantastic. On to the food. The prime rib was flavorful and done to perfection! The entrée was served with a decent sized fresh side salad (Cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices and a small celery stock) and omg delicious onion rings. I have had the mashed potatoes and brown gravy which I wasn't a huge fan of. I have also had the chicken wing appetizers which were great. One complaint is the steak was pretty tough. Good but not needed was the asiago cheese crust. My girl had the chicken tenders and onion rings. She had no complaints and it was definitely fresh and hot. I highly recommend the Pumpkin Torte (or 2 or more). I look forward to coming back!

I love diners for breakfast. My husband and I travel quite bit and have had some bad experiences, but not here. The restaurant itself is clean and well decorated, the staff is very friendly, the food is good and plentiful, even the bathroom is great. I’m somewhat picky about smell, cleanliness and overall quality and this was top notch. I watched the busboy not only clean the table top, but also wipe down every seat! We split the Dixie Plate and a pancake. Very good and more than enough for two. I highly recommend the Colonial House. We’re from Texas, but if we lived in Rapid City this would be our breakfast spot!

Food was amazing. Best cinnamon rolls ever. Breakfast were delicious as well, great size. Coffee had great flavor. Oh! And the sugar cookies are amazing, big, soft and delicious. We stopped there in our way to Mount Rushmore and had a lot of parking. I recommend this place 100%.

The fiesta bread is great, it is complimentary, it is loaded with a sausage, and cheese. My boyfriend had the prime rib, medium rare, with mac & cheese. The Mac & cheese was a little on the tough side. But the rest of the food made up for it. I had the mushroom and Swiss burger, with Mac & cheese too. The burger was juicy, and the Mac & cheese was a little tough too. However, we enjoyed the dinner.

Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews in Rapid City has a vintage burger joint vibe and offers a variety of options for all types of diners. Their menu includes crazy combinations like the Bunless burger, Eggstraordinary burger, and Fifth Wheel with three patties stacked on top of each other. The restaurant also accommodates dietary restrictions by offering veggie patties and gluten-free buns.
We’re most-time RVers on our Dawg Haus hunt for the best cheeseburgers across the U.S. and Canada. While staying in Spearfish, we had Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews on our burger joints to try. Great garage and motorcycle-themed vibe with friendly, top-notch service. Mick had the Jameson Burger with whiskey BBQ sauce, onions, cheddar, and peppered bacon; Karla had the Hatch Green Chile Queso Burger with sweet giardiniera and mild queso. Both came out medium-rare on toasted brioche buns with tasty fries and sweet potato fries on the side. They’ve got over 50 beers on tap and fun adult milkshakes—our Mango Cart and Kona Big Wave mix was a hit. Overall, a really fun stop with Good burgers, great service, and a cool atmosphere. Much better than Sugar Shack in Deadwood, SD.

Loved the decor of the restaurant from the outside to the in. Very nostalgic memorabilia from the past. The music playing inside was good, and the sound was perfect. We were seated right away, and our waitress took our drink orders. We did order the chicken sandwich and burger with fries. They were both really good. The only critique we are providing is the error the waitress made. When ordering my burger, she asked me what side I wanted. I already looked at the menu and asked her if it came with fries. She told me I could choose from the menu. I pointed to her that the menu shows prices for certain items. She said no, it is included. So I ordered a side of Chili. (Was a cup, mind you). When the bill came, I noticed I was charged $3.99. I called her over and explained again what I had asked her earlier. Her response was that she was not familiar with the menu. So I take it, she was new. (?) She told me she would just pay me the $3.99 ($4.00) from her pocket so she did not have to get it corrected. I told her not to if she was taking out of her tips. She insisted and counted the o es and handed me $3.00 and walked away. Again, incompetent in counting? I just ignored that dollar and added it to her measly tip.

I had such a delightful experience at this place! The atmosphere is inviting, and the service is truly fantastic. Everything fried, sweet, or salty is absolutely delicious! I tried the burger, and it was almost amazing—it just needed a little tweak. The burger buns were a bit dense and large at room temperature, which took away some of the flavor. But I'm excited for my next visit! I’ll definitely ask if they have other bun options or see if I can get the buns warmed up. I can't wait to enjoy it even more!

We enjoyed our burgers at Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews in Rapid City, as it was an excellent experience. The place has a fun & casual atmosphere perfect for a relaxed meal. We ordered the classic burgers, which were absolutely delicious—juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The fries and tater tots were crispy, hot, and perfectly seasoned, complementing the burgers really well. Each burger was $17.99, a bit on the higher side, but the quality and portion size made it well worth it. The service was prompt, friendly, and attentive, with our server Amanda checking in just enough to make sure everything was perfect without being overbearing. Overall, Sickies Garage delivered a satisfying and enjoyable dining experience—great food, fun atmosphere, and excellent service. Definitely a place we’d return to next time we’re in Rapid City.

This was such a fun place to eat at! From the decor to the music it was great!! We love eating local places to the spots we vacation and this one didn’t disappoint. The menu is a little daunting being there are so many burgers, we had no idea where to start! But our waitress, Theresa, helped us with the most popular and what she liked! We ordered the kids cheeseburgers, which were priced right for kids. The burger was a little small for the bun. But overall the kids ate everything! Another plus is, they don’t charge for sweet potatoes!! And they were so good! My husband and I got the hot rod burger off their $10 lunch menu and the smoke shack burger. Both were good, great I wouldn’t say but they were good! This was one of the only reasonable places we ate on our trip and was good!! $50 for family of four. We would definitely eat here again, thank you!

Nestled at the base of the picturesque Black Hills, Chapel In the Hills is a serene Lutheran church that beautifully captures the essence of Scandinavian architecture. Built in 1969 as a replica of Norway's Borgund Stave Church, this wooden marvel showcases steep gables and intricate craftsmanship that will leave you in awe. It serves as a tranquil retreat for visitors seeking solace from their hectic lives, inviting both locals and travelers to experience its peaceful ambiance.
This church is one of those hidden gems that you'd never just stumble upon. An exact replica of a Norwegian kirke built in the 1100's, it is a beautiful wooden work of art in addition to being a house of worship. An audio tape orients you to the church and grounds, which you can explore at your leisure. The gift shop and small museum are worth a look. There are also two short paths to walk near the church. Enjoy the quiet stillness of this magnificent little church in the hills near Rapid City.

This was a really fantastic place to visit, and I recommend going if you are in the area. The big church chapel is apparently a replica of a Norwegian chapel. It was very beautiful to visit and look at. There is also a mini museum not far from the chapel and a really cool gift shop with Norwegian books and wooden nativities. I bought one of the nativities, as I learned someone had carved them and made them on their own. I do feel the history could be better explained. I just wish there was more of a tour that explained the history in depth. There is an audio tour in the chapel and signs that explain the history, but it would be nice to have a guide to explain all the pieces of the puzzles in the place. We didn't have a long time here, nor could you spend a long time here, but I would definitely recommend seeing this and asking about the history because not all the questions and sites are fully explained.

Super cool Norwegian-style, wooden church The chapel is open to public to walk through. While it’s not large, it’s upper cool to see all the design and though that went into this.

Chapel in the Hills is an absolutely beautiful and peaceful place to visit. The rich history of the chapel is fascinating, and the audio narration they offer is well worth listening to — it really helps you appreciate the story behind it all. The prayer walk is amazing and so thoughtfully designed, providing a quiet and reflective space surrounded by nature. They even have a scavenger hunt in the gift shop for the kids, which was such a fun bonus and kept them engaged while we explored. Overall, it’s a truly special stop that feels both inspiring and welcoming. Highly recommend taking the time to visit!

Definitely worth a stop if you're in Rapid City. The grounds are so peaceful and pretty. The chapel itself is very unique and beautiful. There is a cabin full of antiques that are interesting to see. If you're looking g for a souvenir, the gift shop has many useful and decorative items.

During a very busy vacation sightseeing the a black Hills, a visit to Chapel in the Hills was like hitting the slow motion button in a really good way. There was a sense of peace and calm. Our family took the time to take the prayer walk ((very short walk in the woods behind the chapel). I appreciated the attention to detail in the wood, even the rain spouting was made from wood. I highly recommend taking the time to visit this extraordinary site. Didn't miss the gift shop either.

I was really impressed. I didn't know that there was an exact replica of the Norwegian 1108 church, but in this case, it was built in 1969. It's a very peaceful place, and you can really appreciate the architecture work and the spiritual environment in this place.

The restaurant features a wide, high-ceilinged space with elegant white tablecloths and stylish monochrome furniture. Guests can savor dishes like fresh ahi tuna seared rare with seaweed salad and ginger soy glaze, or aged rib-eye with poblano chilis and caramelized onions.

My hotel was just 3mins walk to this restaurant so I decided to try it. I booked a reservation online, walked in, and a big smile from the receptionist right in front of the restaurant. She checked me in, asked me to wait in waiting area while they set up a booth ready for me. I waited less than 5mins to get my table. I was worried about the food would be too salty like the other places but the server was nice and explained to me which option is salty and which is not. I ordered medium rare Wet Aged Ribeye with asparagus and baked potatoes. It was delicious. The meat was juicy, tender, and not salty. It came out hot with exact how medium rare that I wanted. I had to wait a bit long for my food came out but it was worth for the wait. The restaurant wasn't too noisy and has a lot tables which good for big group as well. I actually found a fly during my dinner. It was flying around my food. I think the owner should do something with that problem since they seem like an upscale restaurant. They have paid parking in front of the restaurant.

It was about 3 pm on a Friday afternoon. I was looking for an upscale place to have a relaxing lunch. Most restaurants are closed at this time. I found Delmonico's and it was great. I had the wedge salad and a nice glass of cab franc. So nice.
Dede F — Google review
Ordered 8oz filet medium-rare w/loaded baked potato. Was cooked nicely but was fairly bland so I unfortunately needed A1 sauce. Took 8-10 mins to get that so meat was lukewarm by the time I actually ate it. Potato came out warm with just sour cream and butter. Not my definition of a loaded potato. Bread before meal was better than the meal itself. Server also forgot to bring Brussel sprouts we had ordered as an appetizer.

This is a truly wonderful classic dining experience Caleb was our server for lunch on our first day there and for dinner on our second day there five star meal on both experiences and six star service would like to express our thanks to all the staff and the chefs for the wonderful meals my wife and I enjoy and don't forget the desert you won't be disappointed

Food was excellent. Steaks properly seasoned and cooked to order perfectly. Tempura veggies were delectable! Appetizer came out promptly, but the rest of the food took a long, long time; especially as we were early evening and the place was almost empty. We enjoyed the relaxing time, but, if you're in a hurry, be warned. Service was good, attentive and friendly.

We've always loved Delmonico Grill for steak, burgers, an excellent wedge, and the best French onion soup in Rapid. But this week, we tried some new (for us) items, and I just have to say — there are some hidden gems on the menu that you don't want to miss!! My husband had the half roasted chicken, and it was absolutely amazing — crisped to perfection. They served it on a bed of mashed sweet potatoes, which was the perfect blend of savory and sweet. I had the strawberry, pesto, and burrata salad, with chicken for a protein, and I just have to say — it's my new favorite item on the menu. Our server Kinsey was exceptional – sweet, fun, beyond attentive, and had the best recommendations. We can't wait to go back, now that we've discovered even more menu items that shine!!

Prairie Edge Trading Co & Galleries is a two-story retail store and gallery that spans an entire block, showcasing a wide array of Native American books, music, jewelry, and ceremonial items. The establishment serves as a platform for Northern Plains Indian artists to display their work and educate the public about their rich heritage. Since the 1980s, Prairie Edge has been dedicated to preserving the remarkable legacy of its artists.
Spectacular selection of local crafts, Indian inspired art, Western clothing, turquoise jewelry, fine art, amazing painting, sculpture, textile arts like Indian blankets.

The only positive aspect of my experience was Maya. She's helpful, kind and polite. I've been a long time supplier of Indigenous botanicals to Praire Edge. I wanted to try their products for the first time. I definitely regret that decision. I purchased $350 worth of herbs and teas. They didn't have the decency nor the respect to package my goods correctly. All of the products I bought were open, spilling out, and thrown into a bag. I didn't check the bags at the store because I trusted they would be properly packaged. The teas were falsely advertised at 2oz, most of them weighed less. I called concerning this issue and had no resolution. They kept transferring me from person to person. The staff started to speak to me rudely and attempted to be condescending. They continued to tell me management is "out of office". Once I finally got to speak to Brenda(GM), all she did was constantly interrupt me when I tried to explain the situation, became rude and raised her voice throughout the conversation. She wanted me to speak to Nancy, and that never happened. She's conveniently always on leave. No accountability from the staff or management. They even told me I'm not welcome back as a supplier or customer for voicing my concerns. From an Indigenous person's perspective it seems like they exploit indigenous cultures and treat the native people with no respect that buy from them.

Lovely shop with many beautiful objects for sale, including a wide variety of pendelton blankets and clothing items. Prices definitely seemed to reflect quality.

The menu features an extensive selection of curries, tandoori dishes, and other specialties from the region.
Food is phenomenal. We love spicy and the medium heat was perfect. Saag Paneer was the perfect blend of spicy and creamy without being too creamy. We also enjoyed the chicken curry, aloo gobi, and garlic Naan. Highly recommend!!

Visit cute bistro! Garlic cheese Naan was hot and delicious. I recommend the Alligator Bhuna and Chicken Biryani; both are generous portions. I couldn't take my leftovers because I didn't have a place to safely put it, so I was very sad to leave all that food behind. Excellent food and service!

At first, it was unassuming from the outside, and the temp was a little warm inside. But oh my gosh, the food was so good. Easily 5 stars. We were on a cross country road trip, and my 11 yr old son said this place was his favorite across 6 states we went to. The service was excellent and everyone was super nice. Food came out quick, and we were stuffed. The flavors were both familiar and unique. Would 100% come back. On top of it all, I accidentally left my credit card, and they mailed it to me! Such good people and food. Highly recommended.

An authentic Nepalese restaurant in Rapid City…impressive. The mere existence of this place gets 3 stars for spicing up the local scene. However, the flavors and tastes aren’t life changing if you’re used to South Asian cuisine. I tried getting specifically Nepalese dishes as opposed it the Indian dishes that most ppl get. They were fine but nothing terribly new or exciting. Certainly beats burgers.
K C — Google review
My family, which included an 8 yr old and 3 yr old, loved their food. Although there were some slightly more adventurous options on the menu we had the chicken vindaloo, aloo gosht and the chicken tikka masala. Really delicious. The naan was just next level. Lovely open feel in the restaurant with good service. The chai masala was not as sweet as we are accustomed but that’s probably because we are used to a certain restaurant at home. Would love to be able to come again.

The Fort Hays Chuckwagon Supper & Show offers a delightful experience that combines a hearty meal with live music and comedy. Guests can explore the Dances with Wolves film set and workshops before indulging in an all-you-can-eat feast featuring BBQ beef, chuckwagon potatoes, and more. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the Old West, complete with tin plates and cups. It's a boot-stompin' good time that promises laughter and full bellies for all who attend.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The food is fantastic and we loved being served cowboy style. The show afterwards is fantastic. Great musicians and entertainers. Our group had a great time! 100% recommended.

We didn't make it to a Chuck wagon dinner but enjoyed the buildings around Fort Hays. The office where Lt Dunbar gets his orders for Ft Hays is so cool to see. Lots of places on the grounds to take pictures (try the coffin). The buffalo shoot coaster is more fun than it looks! That thing books!

We did the Chuckwagon supper and show. What an awesome way to end our trip! They efficiently serve a large crowd in a friendly manner. Food was delicious; we particularly liked the chunky applesauce. The musicians were top notch - super talented and entertaining. We brought our 10 and 12 year olds and they enjoyed the sing alongs. At $40 per person for dinner and a show, we found the price to be quite reasonable. Thanks for a fun time! ~ Erica and Roy from NJ

This place is an oasis in the desert. You want to stop here and fill up and plan the day. The .99 cent all you can eat pancakes are delicious! And the biscuits and gravy hit the spot so hard I had seconds. The staff is friendly and the live pianist was a treat. We did not mean to stop on our trip to SD but it is the reason we will be planning a second one. We stayed in the area for a week and ate here 3 times. We can't wait to return. The Journey Museum in Rapid City offers an enriching experience for families, providing insights into the geological and archaeological history of the Black Hills. Visitors can explore exhibits on Sioux Indian culture and early Black Hills history. The museum also houses a diverse collection of Native American art, including traditional and contemporary Sioux artworks such as beadwork, quillwork, metalworking, and ceremonial regalia. Additionally, temporary exhibitions featuring modern American Indian artists add variety to each visit.
We primarily stuck to the museum itself, rather than the cafe or gift shop. Even with a tight schedule, this was a nice stop. It is always great heading to cultural museums that shed light on the history of the area you are visiting. I would definitely swing in here, because it is educational and has activities for kids, as well.

Heidi G — Google review
I was in the area with time to spend and after some research, decided to check this place out with my preschooler. We went on a Friday afternoon and nearly had the place to ourselves! We had a BLAST in the archeology dino digs- looking at fossils and playing in the super fine sand table were my preschooler's favorite. The STEAM corner was somewhat small, but with no other kids present, we had so much fun checking out the plasma ball and the giant microscope. My preschooler thought it was the BEST launching the parachute up the wind tube and racing to see who could catch them as they fell down! Although most weren't my toddler's speed, the curation of artifacts from early Americans was absolutely beautiful. The amount of native beadwork and garb as well as pioneer regalia was really impressive and well displayed. The frequent nooks for kid activities were well thought out and very engaging. We spent nearly 2 and a half hours here and enjoyed every moment. The only point of potential improvement would be that the bathrooms while marked as handicap, are not fully handicap accessible. Although we are not ourselves handicapped, we do work closely with those that are and noticed some things weren't quite up to our hopeful expectations. The sinks, soap, and paper towel were all too high and while you could maneuver a mobility aid in, it could be challenging to close the door due to the inward swung hinges. Aside from the room for improvement in the bathrooms, this place was a 10 out of 10 for us and my preschooler has already asked when we'll be back. If you're in the area, this is a place worth checking out.

Was not expecting so many kid-friendly activities! They have stations throughout the museum for kids to stop and play/learn. Very interactive. The worker was running around resetting all the stations so each group could enjoy the activities too! Our little one is only 1 1/2 and she loved it!

Highly educational and a great field trip for homeschooling families.

We were genuinely impressed (and grateful) for the lovey rooms the Journey Museum provided Sea Reach Ltd to conduct three days of interviewing. Sea Reach Ltd is an exhibit design firm from Portland, Oregon. Under contract to the US Forest Service to tell Indigenous history, we flew in to Rapid City to interview Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota people. The smaller conference room was perfect for the film crew to set up equipment. It was quiet and easy to control the light levels. The larger room was perfect for greeting the interviewees—bright with sunlight, large windows, and space for guests to cluster, share stories, and enjoy a refreshment. Museum staff were gracious in accommodating a our needs, including a late interview where staff had to wait for us to finish, rearranging a room to make space for the camera crew, and setting out coffee, tea, and water each morning.

Firstly, the museum has an eye-catching building design. There was a wealth of good information in this museum, and we didn't plan enough time to see everything. Really appreciated the Native American history and culture that was incorporated into the exhibits.

Art Alley, situated between 6th and 7th Streets in downtown Rapid City, is a vibrant back alley adorned with striking graffiti-style murals and writings. This urban gem offers a unique insight into local culture and interests, allowing aspiring artists to obtain permits to create their own masterpieces on approved buildings. The ever-changing street art adds to the area's charm, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic urban experience in Rapid City.
Wow! Seeing all of the art in person was amazing! 😍 It was just a short walk from the parking lot a block away. People apparently live back here, but I'd say its fairly safe.

Some nicely done but mostly just graffiti. They even paint the trash bins. The bins were in the way of some of the nicer ones. Easy to find.

This is a quirky art installation in a one block alleyway in downtown Rapid City. My wife happened upon it in some travel literature, so we drove down to check it out. Easy parking on downtown streets, then an easy walk up and down the alley. Art is by permit only and runs the gamut. A fun few minutes if you are near downtown Rapid City
Gregory S — Google review
Truly some beautiful works of art lining the alley. There are a couple that take up entire walls by themselves and some so small you have to be a foot away to see. Could do with more illustrative type graffiti and less tagging graffiti but even some of the tags are pretty cool.
FoxAndMonk — Google review
I honestly thought it would be a bit bigger but it’s still a fun little walk with some cool artwork and I can never hate on that.
Bernard J — Google review
Located in downtown Rapid City, between 6th and 7th and Main and St. Joseph. Art alley consists of dumpsters, utility meters and the backs of the buildings on both sides covered in street Art and graffiti. This unique area was established in 2003, giving artists the freedom to express personal and political views through art. Its an outdoor gallery of a wide variety of styles and subject matter. Although some people are put off by the initial view of the alley, keep in mind, it is an alley that runs behind fully functioning businesses on both sides. The dumpters and utility meters are being utilized, but have been incorporated into the public art space. Permits must be obtained and certain rules do apply for artists to create here, but, the Permits are free and are fairly easy to obtain. This ensures a constant change to the Art on display. I make a point to stroll Art alley every single time I am in the area. It truly is a work of art!

Paddy O'Neill's Irish Pub & Grill is a laid-back tavern located in the Hotel Alex Johnson, named after the hotel's first guest in 1928. The pub attracts a diverse crowd, from businesspeople to younger patrons drawn by live music on Wednesday through Saturday nights. The venue offers typical pub-style food and a rooftop bar with craft cocktails and panoramic views.
I’ve been to a lot of Irish Pubs, and I actually don’t know how many times I’ve been to Ireland, it’s a lot. However this place might have my favorite bone in wings of all of them. I literally immediately ordered another batch on finishing! Per always garlic parm is the best variety!! Their buffalo sauce isn’t the best, but the actual wings themselves came are big and tender, reminds me of 1998! Plus they have a fridge just for cold glasses, wonderful!! Creed cam on while I was posting this, ‘so let’s go there’

Got some food to go since I was staying at the hotel. I tried the Buffalo Chicken Flatbread and sweet chili bone-in wings. The flat bread was absolutely amazing I should have gotten too. The wings were not they were either fried too long on some parts and not enough on the others but the sweet chili sauce was really good. I would still go back for the flat bread alone!!

I wasn't too impressed. I ordered the nachos and they tasted good but I wish there were more of them. I was part of a group and the waitress forgot about us. One guy ordered another beer and she forgot and 35 minutes later she came with our bills. I wouldn't go back.

I visited Paddy O’Neill’s last night and had an excellent club sandwich. I usually expect a Club to be bland but this one had a great flavor. The bacon was crispy. I had a side of fresh fruit, which was fresh and not sad looking. I got here about 7:15. It was a busy Thursday night in Rapid City, but I got in right away. The place had filled up by 8 pm. I had to wait a bit for the meal, but that was understandable because of the number of people sitting g inside and outside on the patio. The wait staff was hustling and worked well together. There were plenty of tvs to watch. Katy was a great server.

The Dinosaur Museum in Rapid City boasts the world's largest collection of prehistoric animal sculptures and is conveniently located next to the Reptile Gardens. It offers an engaging and educational experience for both kids and adults, featuring lifelike exhibits, interactive activities like mini digs and touching real dinosaur bones, as well as a mirror maze and mini golf course.
My grandson and I had a blast! The dinosaurs were very realistic, the mirror maze was fantastic and the mini golf was perfect. Definitely worth the $14. Also got the free season pass for going today.

Wonderful museum to kill some time. Half hour to 45 minutes, maybe a bit more if you choose to mini golf. Small theater. Mirror maze.
Elise L — Google review
Pricey for what it is. We spent $42 for the 3 of us to get in. My son loved everything and spent a lot of time in the maze. As an adult, I found it very run down and in disrepair. It's your typical tourist trap, kids love it and the adults think it's meh 😕 at best.
Amanda M — Google review
Based on the outside of the facility my hopes weren't high on what to expect. The cost for what you see, in my opinion, is not worth it, but with updates to the facility could be! The dinosaurs are neat to see. There are some as bones, but the majority are life-size, realistic replicas to show you what they were like. There were several of the replicas that had damage to them (one raptor was missing an entire digit). With your every fee you get access to their mirror maze and mini golf course. The mirror maze was small but fun and well put together. One mirror was broken toward the end, but that didn't detract from the experience. The mini golf course, on the other hand, was a big disappointment. The course is not maintained, there were sticks and debris at every hole. I feel they missed a big opportunity with the dinosaur theme at this course to help with drawing in more customers! There was one mid sized dinosaur sculpture in the middle of the course, but other than that the course was very basic and had no decor or theme. Overall, if the facility had some much needed updates, I feel it could be a great draw for families to enjoy!
Briana Z — Google review
Just a great place to go and learn about dinosaurs 💗 kiddos loved the mirror maze and sitting in their little theater watching and learning about dinosaurs🦕🦖❣️

To be honest I’m surprised this place only has 4 stars on Google because we thought it was FANTASTIC and definitely deserves 5!! I read through some of the bad reviews and got the impression that the bad reviews were from the type of people that will have something negative to say about everything…. This place is wonderful!!! The exhibits are very lifelike & had detailed information. The interior of the building has neat lighting to give a more Jurassic/ scavenger appeal which my kids and I thought was great. Not to mention the awesome decor with greenery that made it feel even more real. I saw some reviews that mentioned the building being worn down but in my opinion I thought it was made to look rustic as part of the experience, but that’s just my perspective. I have a 7 year old and a 1.5 year old and they were both entertained with plenty of things to do. We went through the mirror maze about 10 times and giggled uncontrollably every time. We also got to play a game of mini golf outside which was such a great addition! The movie theatre had great sound and we were impressed with the quality of the video. Both my kids LOVED digging for fossils in the sand boxes. Supporting local businesses like this dinosaur museum is crucial for our communities. Let's uplift and celebrate our hometown gems together! Five stars all the way!

Went yesterday and I think the man we spoke with was the owner. He was super accommodating as he was doing maintenance and we had to wait a bit before we could go in. Gave us free passes for the wait. We really enjoyed the exhibits and the maze was really cool. Mini golf was fun. They are continually making improvements and I'm excited to see this place get better and better. Please support this local business and this awesome owner.

Main Street Square is a bustling city center complex in downtown Rapid City that has completely transformed the area. The centerpiece of the square is an interactive water fountain during the summer and an ice skating rink in the winter, making it a year-round attraction. Surrounding the square is The Sculpture Project: Passage of Wind and Water, featuring 21 large pieces of ancient granite carved by Masayuki Nagase.
What a delightful park, fun for the kids, fun place for the family. Good seating, well kept, water games for the kids. Was a delightful surprise to walk around this area. Loved all the statues of the presidents in the downtown area.

If you didn't know you could rent out Main Street Square, now you do & it is a great space! We recently hosted our client appreciation event at Main Street Square and couldn’t have been happier with the experience! Pomai was incredible to work with—so organized, professional, and attentive to every detail. She made the entire planning process feel easy and stress-free. The team at Main Street Square took care of everything—they handled the full setup (including fencing to give our event a more private feel), provided the bar and bartender, and even took care of all the cleanup afterward. It allowed us to just show up and enjoy the evening with our guests, which we really appreciated. The space was beautiful, the staff was amazing, and everything went off without a hitch. We got so many compliments on the event, and we’ll definitely be recommending Main Street Square to anyone looking for a top-notch event venue. Huge thanks to Pomai and her team!

Music and happy kid noise from the spray park were wonderful background noise for a very enjoyable visit to the Square. A toy store and ice cream shop were open into the evening. I also found a delightful independent bookstore around the corner.

Italian restaurant
Sabatino's Italian Ristorante is a charming eatery that offers a unique dining experience in an industrial-style setting. The restaurant prides itself on using locally sourced ingredients to create delicious and authentic Italian dishes. Owned by immigrants with a passion for bringing true Italian flavors to Rapid City, Sabatino's menu features seasonal items, including fresh pasta with house-made marinara and pesto sauces.
The staff here was very welcoming and friendly. When the food came that I had ordered it was unbeknownst to me that there was fresh onions in it as it wasn't listed in the description of the food item and I have a food allergy to fresh onions. My husband and I brought this to our waitresses attention and she was very understanding and immediately took the food back to the kitchen to have it remade with no fresh onions. Her and another staff member apologized and made sure my food being remade was top priority. My husband and I both had the tiramisu for dessert and it was beautifully presented and was very delicious. Will definitely come back here.

10/10 Recommend! The food was prepared perfectly & the staff were knowledgeable, efficient & kind. The biggest thing is seeing ownership working alongside their staff! It speaks volumes as to who they are as people & business operators. We will definitely be regulars here!
Rebekah W — Google review
I am from the New York City/east coast area and this authentic Italian restaurant reminds me of home a lot. Amazing dining atmosphere, food was so addicting, and the servers there will treat you well like a family member! I personally do not like to compare restaurants but this is definitely worth going for than Olive Garden. If you ask the servers what you really want on your food, they will tell the chef to do it your way depending on what you order. Making a reservation is strongly recommended because this ristorante can get pretty busy and packed like a full house. Wait times for walking in can be long and seating can be very limited or difficult to find. I would highly suggest this place for a date with your significant other, family night outs, birthdays, or even a casual hangout with friends.
Jonathan T — Google review
The food was good, but the portions were on the smaller side. It's spaghetti, spaghetti is cheap. There should be lots of it. We also couldn't believe there was a lot of italian dishes missing from the menu, no veal , only a few chicken dishes. We had the cannolis for dessert, and they were just okay. The tiramisu was watery.

Not sure why they made us wait for 10 minutes despite manyany empty tables. Food was excellent. We tried beet salad, spaghetti, fettuccine and pizza. All were decent, nicely cooked and delicious.

The entire dinner was amazing. They are from Italy so sauces are great!! I wish they had more pasta like stuffed shells or manicotti!! However, the Tortolini with peas, ham, and white sauce was amazing. I also enjoyed the Chianti wine, very yummy. So overall, a wonderful evening

$100 gift card for Sabatinos. It is scannable with your phone and active and ready to use by toast. Our family bought it for us in 2022 but we have 3 kids and it took us 3 years to finally get out of the house for a date night at Sabatinos. Unfortunately the owner said the card is too old and they can’t take it anymore and they usually only last one year. No where on this card does it say that. And I checked the balance before I came in. So we had to pay them $203 total for a $103 meal that honestly was just OK. Shame on you Sabatinos!!!

Canyon Lake Park is a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike, offering a range of activities for all ages. The park features playgrounds, open fields, ponds, and trails that provide endless opportunities for family fun and relaxation. It is also part of the Leonard Swanson Memorial Pathway, making it an ideal day trip for cyclists. With its picnic areas surrounded by lush greenery, it's perfect for outdoor picnics on sunny days.
One of the best parks in the city. It has it all. Plenty of grass (best maintained out of every Park) and play area space with grills that are scattered around for any picnics you may choose. A lake that is stocked with trout with plenty of geese and ducks that are never far away. There are two main gazebos and a Bridgeway that goes to a little mini Island with a small gazebo. If you follow the path across the bridge to the very end section there is another path area that's in a shaded portion along Rapid Creek which is fun to explore.

Gorgeous park to walk any time of the day. Always a lot of fishermen here, and the water is so clear you can see the fish swimming near the shoreline. Lots of playground equipment for the Littles, and on the weekends lots of families picnicking and barbecuing. Lovely, lovely scenery and very clean. Great spot to while away a sunny summer afternoon.

The Dahl Arts Center, a nonprofit municipal venue established in 1974, is a hub for arts and culture in western South Dakota. Managed by the Rapid City Arts Council, it features five visual art galleries showcasing regional and local artists, a gift shop, and an interactive gallery for children. The center also boasts a nearly 200-foot Cyclorama Mural of American history and an events center hosting performances and community events.

G A — Google review
A beautiful and well organized institution with exhibit spaces for art that celebrates South Dakota and beyond. The exhibits are well curated. My two recent visits saw exhibitions focused on South Dakota artists. This is such an important place, as it highlights and makes accessible the talent and creativity in the state. It is also a community space. In December 2018, I saw a well attended holiday concert around lunchtime. The event space seems suitable to any use. The permanent exhibit of the Cyclorama mural documents US and regional histories. Completed in 1975, it is just as impactful today, and an incredible piece of history. Take some time to really look at each section for the depth that’s there. There is also a children’s area with art themed activities. It gives parents the chance to give your child a way to see the adult exhibit and then go to their own space if and when needed. The gift shop has many unique pieces by local artists. The handmade soaps by Black Crow Soaps never disappoint. There are also artist created greeting cards and photos of South Dakota landscapes and objects. All around a great museum

The mural room by Bernard Thomas is truly amazing! Finished in the mid-1970s, the mural was commissioned by a local banker (A.E. Dahl). The fantastic details are rendered in spectacular fashion. The mural has become controversial by some in the arts community, who profess perfect vision. Some have even called for defacing the mural because some scene offends their sensibilities. Art is not supposed to be a sedative! It is supposed to engage people. I hope that someone who is truly upset will raise money to tell their viewpoint. In fact, I hope many people do exactly that. We need more art, NOT more censorship.
Ted L — Google review

The Dahl Arts Center was the perfect location for the Great American Book Festival and related events. The building is perfectly suited for an arts/culture related event and fits our theme to a "T". The facility is well maintained and the layout offers a variety of configurations for multiple uses including private meeting spaces. But above and beyond all that, the staff is nothing short of amazing! Having hosted literary events around the country for over a decade I can say that the Dahl Arts Center has, by far, the most delightful people who always go above and beyond. And they do so with a smile and a kind word. We are so very grateful to the Dahl for all that they do. We've hosted our events with them two years in a row now and can't imaging a place more suited for our Writers' Conference and related events. Also a special shout-out to event coordinator, Caitlin, who is the glue that helps hold everything together. She's a Rock Star!

Pretty standard dive bar with bar type food. They have weekly specials and I happened to go on prime rib day. However I ordered a Cajun burger and I’m not sure there was any Cajun in it. This spot seems more of a place to drink and hang out after hours than go in for lunch, which is probably obvious to regulars. Love the inside decor. Service was great.
Katelyn — Google review
Not clean, outdated, mid-level service. Seems to rely on inexpensive drinks and gambling, and high volume traffic. One of the highest revenue bars in South Dakota, and very reasonable priced. High volume, large dive bar. But too large to be cozy, very outdated and inadequately maintained. Unpleasant odors. There are multiple pool tables, gambling, bar games, open late, tons of easy parking, and bargain drink prices. The outdoor areas are lovely when traffic isn't constant. So there are many positives. And I love a good dive bar, so I wanted to love this place. But the owners seemingly aren't engaged enough, and it feels like a declining venue despite all the local support and history. The team and clientele deserve more.
Mike B — Google review
Came to a baby shower here, a literal child / family oriented event with my 10 week old daughter. Once arriving, we were told we cannot have children here. Our child was actually in her car seat, sleeping. As if a 10 week old is going to crawl around, steal booze or play lottery. The mother to be had no idea children weren't allowed, dont you think they'd tell an 8 month pregnant woman that her friends WITH KIDS cannot bring them? No. They serve food, yet can't have literal babies, or children here. 10/10 a shitty communicated establishment.

Our family met up at Kelly's expecting a good time when the service dashed that thought. Our table was basically ignored. I mean for a long long time. No one took our orders or acknowledged us. But becareful for what you wish for because when someone did come by to our beckoning calls they acted so put off by us like we were taking their time away. They were outwardly rude. No eye contact. Barely fininishing talking to us before leaving. Of course no smile! We were left on our own when the food arived hours later. And had to get up and ask for the check to pay. I've used "they" as the service people because it was two people. After one abandoned us another madder one came by.

Came in Thursday afternoon to watch my favorite college football game. I asked the waitress (over weight long black hair, tomboy type, never saw her before) to put on the Boise State Broncos and Southern Florida game. She must of only heard the word Broncos. She said the game was not on tv. I explained it was on ESPN, easy enough. She disappeared so l found the game on another tv when she reappeared l showed her the game was on and asked once again if she would change the Chanel at the table l was sitting at. She said if l have a problem she didn't have time for it. I've been going to Kelly's for years and never encountered a situation like that. I would think someone with no football knowlege probably shouldn't work at a sports bar(especially Kelly's). If anything ask someone who understands sports instead on making a fool of herself. I went across the street to the Park and watched the game spent over $40.00 on drinks and food. Great Service.

I came here for my first time and was blown away... Literally with all the tobacco and weed vape in this business! The staff clearly saw this and did nothing but the The worst part of what I observed was people that were served clearly past their limit and was offered more alcohol when I confronted the server about this she tried to deny it but I clearly heard her offer more alcohol to a woman that was clearly way over her limit and all of our table said "no! close her tab!" when I confronted the server about this she denied it and said "no I was just going to close her tab" but that is not at all what she said she asked if she wanted another drink and this woman was clearly way intoxicated to the point where she probably shouldn't even been in the establishment at all! And I just can't believe the staff allowed this she even won a prize was up on the stage and couldn't walk on her own and the staff helped her! How is this legal in any way? You guys are serving people way too much alcohol and the illegal activity going on in your establishment is unacceptable by far! And this was just one example I actually observed several other instances of very intoxicated people that could barely walk and were still being served including a pregnant woman! This place just left a really bad taste in my mouth and I definitely will never be back! Also the amount of people that were noticeably intoxicated and leaving the establishment and getting into vehicles and then driving with the staff observing this was also unacceptable!

The Brass Rail Lounge is a cozy and unassuming dive bar located in the heart of Rapid City's lively downtown area. Despite its small size, it offers a laid-back and welcoming atmosphere where regulars are known by name. The bar features wood paneling, comfortable leather stools, and a classic brass rail that adds to its nostalgic charm.
To say the least, I had one of the best and most memorable experiences I’ve ever had in my life. The breast has been more than accommodating to my needs, but also just in general as a bar, but the bartender Zach kinda gives a homie vibe gives you the feeling that you are at home with your friends, a good place to hang out very well-maintained and well groomed bar where you have an ability to play Some video games and or just the normal camaraderie of a bar to say the least that zach will go out of his way to make sure that you are well taken care of within legal limits and make sure that you get home safely. I went in this town, making sure that another patron Got a physical ride home rather than walking or driving to me that is worth it waiting and gold I think this bar or this establishment deserves a five star rating and she can be kept that way no matter who sees it and I greatly appreciate the camaraderie since I’ve been here

The Windsor Block Bar, located in the historic Windsor Block of Downtown Rapid City, is a chic and upscale establishment that opened in August 2022. With a focus on crafting unique versions of classic cocktails and creating new favorites, the bar offers an extensive menu of craft cocktails with over 900 spirits to choose from. In addition to its impressive selection of liquors, including an extensive whiskey collection, the bar also serves small plate options such as Chicken Artichoke Bruschetta.
The other reviews do not overstate the impressive nature of the bottle collection here, it’s a sight to behold. But, what made this a favorite stop for us on our adventures in Rapid City was the attentive and helpful service and unpretentious willingness to educate in all things whiskey. The old fashion recommendation was excellent and the gin based cocktail that the bartender created on the spot was delicious and well presented. If you enjoy the art of the drink and are looking for a unique spot to visit this place should be at the top of your list - they may even deserve a sixth star.

Cute cocktail bar with impressive whiskey selection and good cocktails. The rationale for the low rating? Service. The bartenders acted like we were inconveniencing them. We weren’t spoken to, weren’t asked if we wanted seconds, we weren’t informed of last call, and when we were finishing up our drinks we felt hurried and in the way of the staff as they picked up chairs and stacked them on the bar around us. It wasn’t even closing time quite yet. Unfortunate service experience at such a promising place.

KJ knows how to treat visitors! He and the entire staff was fantastic everyone should go on the Alpine Zipline totally worth it in every way!!!!

The zip line was very short, but good. The walk up to the departure point was a little rough for this 'old lady'. BUT worth the effort.

Nice quick adrenaline rush. Employees are friendly. Steep hill climb to get to ride but other than that it’s amazing.

Great, friendly service. The ride was fun and felt safe. My kiddo, who isn’t much into crazy adventure, loved it! Buy the 3 pass ride vw the single ride. Definitely worth going multiple times!!

We will be back ,, wish you had ride photos and or videos. And wish it was accessible for all the gravel path could be hard to navigate for some since it goes up hill

It was a great experience, me and friends enjoyed a lot. Also the staff offered a great service, they are very kind. I really recommend you to stop at Sugar Park if you're on the way to the Mount Rushmore.

I’m glad I found this place it was pretty fun . Kinda pricey for what you get but all the tourist attractions around here are overpriced
