Very good restaurant in the center of Bayonne. The service is excellent. Food is delicious with fresh products, but there are better restaurants in the region for the same price range. A very good experience overall!

Excellent restaurant with good cocktails, delicious food, and attentive service. We got the pre-fix dinner of cauliflower soup, Basque pork, and flan dessert and it was wonderful. Right by the river, such a good experience. Recommended

Not only the staff was wonderful and kind, but the dishes were incredibly delicious. We had no idea it was going to be so good. Above and beyond and one of the best meals we had in the south west of France… thank you!

A beautiful setting with a very warm and friendly atmosphere. Loved the table layout. The crockery is absolutely amazing and the views all round very pretty indeed. The service here too can’t be faulted. Disappointingly though, the food, which was first and foremost what we came here for, was rather a letdown. The œuf parfait was sadly far from it. The star of the show so hidden beneath a sea of foam I couldn’t find it. In fact I’m not even sure there was an egg yolk there. On the other hand Mr H was served what appeared to be a superior version to mine and though it tasted better, overall this dish wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (no pun intended). For mains I had the “Dos de lieu noir” served with black rice risotto. The fish was so so. All the better with a pinch of salt but the risotto was chalky and starchy and frankly I couldn’t eat more than a mouthful. Mr H chose well with the pork fillet mignon. I tasted it and WOW… that was seriously delicious. Some guys have all the luck!! Of the three course menu dessert (for me at least) was the best. A tidy version of an Eaton-Mess though far less tasty and probably some time down the future road, far less memorable. The toilet however was really quirky and will definitely stick in my memory!!!

Very enjoyable dinner. Warm welcome, friendly service and a delicious dinner. I enjoyed the generous serving of ham, my friend had the foie. Both of our steaks were perfect cooked to our liking. I didn't try it but a neighboring table's duck smelled wonderful she (reluctantly) gave a bite to her husband and he smiled.

Amazing food, convenient location and nice views. It’s not the kind of place to bring small children, and yet they were super accommodating. They prepared them some white fish with mashed potatoes that tasted incredible and looked even better (see the picture). Everything we tried on the menu was perfectly cooked and so tasty! It’s a memorable meal to enjoy at ease, definitely not the place for a quick bite.

Wonderful gourmet restaurant located in the heart of Petit Bayonne. The exterior has the classical have timbered appearance. The restaurant itself is lovely, with fantastic attention paid to the service. The lunch menul is quite a bargain, especially when you consider that it is traditional Basque food, but done in an extremely high quality style. The chef was quite nice, having rushed out to say goodbye to us. Try to arrive early, as they wish to stop service at a reasonable hour. Definitely make a reservation for dinner. One of the best dining experiences we have ever had.

Wonderful little market with all the local food and wine. We had a mixture of meats and two glasses of white wine.

A bit expensive compared to other restaurants, it was good for trying local food. However the price was high for what you get.

Got the menu entree plat and dessert. Entree was the beetroot and granny's apple tartare. Was expecting it to be a cold dish. It was neither warm or cold. Would prefer it cold. Plat agneau purée carrot and dessert ice cream mascarphone were delicious. Will definitely go back soon.

Original flavours and perfect wine pairing with unusual wines. They have certainly taken thought and flair to create amazing menus. We also found it very reasonable pricing. Friendly service too and the restaurant is cosy and unpretentious.

It was our first evening in Bayonne and we had a wonderful dinner at Nuance. The star is definitely the food - very creative and unique. While you won’t know what you are getting before it arrives, it’s delicious.

Very VERY good food. We were nicely surprised by txangurro (crab) meat starter, “cassoulet”, mixed crab meat with soft cheese and some sauce. The place does not look attractive from the outside, but we saw lots of people there and decided to try. Highly recommended! My only complaint that they brought me white wine instead of rose :) but beef tartar I was eating with this wine was amazing (for lovers of mustard)

Came for dinner and went with the tasting menu, not a full house but the wait is super long for food, more than 2 hours. The steak doesn’t feel fresh and hard to chew, desert used either canned food and out of the shelf ones. And, I had a bad diarrhea afterwards… The worst dinning experience at France so far

Food is really good. The staff are friendly and make the effort to speak English. One complaint is we spent 450 euros on lunch and still got asked to leave for his lunch break. Good location thanks to the bus for having us. I recommend! Prices are fair for the quality of food :)

We have just had a delightful meal at this restaurant. On a Sunday night with not much open this restaurant delivered! From the warm welcome from our great waiter to the amazing dishes. The foie gras entree was the standout with beautiful combinations of flavour. Our waiter was patient with my French and explained things on the menu in detail. Highly recommended! 👍

I ended up having dinner at this place after arriving in Bayonne fairly late and because they had tables available even without a reservation.They didn't have English menu unfortunately but the waitress recommended me a certain entrée that I don't know the name of but it was first on the fish list (as of Oct 2016). The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly, and the sauce that came with it was really good, too. Overall, I was satisfied with the meal!

On a lovely weekend in Bayonne, this was the only "low". The French Basques are such warm welcoming people. Sadly at Chez Txotx things could not be further from that. We were treated so rudely by a very ill-mannered woman, we decided to leave --- and will never return.

Bad! Ordered l'entrecote steak which was very thin. After we got it the next table beside us (locals) ordered the same and got steaks that were 50% thicker! Someone else in our party ordered the cod and was over cooked and had a bunch of bones.

Classic french traditional style restaurant. I would highly recommend visiting! Wonderful atmosphere and very kind staff. Pretty much everything we took was from the specials and the dishes did not disappoint! We took a bottle of Chardonnay which was delicious and excellent value. I'd recommend booking as it was quite busy on the Saturday night that we visited.

A very interesting culinary experience of the Basque cuisine. Situated in the old city of Bayonne very near the cathedral. Asparagus with ham was very good and so was the roasted lamb. Friendly and helpful service, I would recommend it!😊😉

I had been to the Chistera before, but this time I decided to have my Christmas Eve lunch there. A charming welcome, with very competent and professional service (with a BIG smile) throughout my meal. The whole team is visibly made of "the right stuff" with truly excellent and authentic cuisine and food. I had the best "foie gras" for a long while, and the "magret aux cerises noires" was totally delicious. I even needed extra bread to mop up ALL the remaining sauce ! I encourage you all - Go there, and leave a generous tip. 🤩🤩

What a disappointment this place was. We saw a table available on the terrasse and sat there as you do 99.9% of the time in France. The waiter came and asked us who seated us to which i replied we did ourselves. He became rude, said it was full and we always had to ask inside to get seated, which was fine up to this point but then as he was leaving he added ‘it is a matter of respect’. We were not disrespectful (as mentioned in France you seat yourself on a terrace 99.9% of the time) we apologized and got up hence disrespect was from the server who needlessly added a rude comment as we were leaving. Sad to have such unhappy people in a service industry…To note; conversation took place in french since we are fluent in the language.

Awesome restaurant .. excellent taste … we had both of the fish dishes .. the Sole and Bar .. excellent dishes .. the sauce on the Sole was light, the Bar was very tender and the dishes were not over salted … you cannot go wrong here … all made fresh every night .. the meringue was good but the floating island dessert was great! Only reason it has two Stars? The service. Longest wait I've ever experienced in a restaurant, we arrived at 7h45pm , left at 10h40 ... Ordered 3 entrés, two of them came about 40 to 50 Min later, waited another 10 min then proceeded to ask where the third one was (which came 10 min later). They took about 30 min to clear out plates , and the wait for the main dishes felt like forever too... Even the two deserts took a long time to come. Throughout the time we were there , several people had to manually wave at the waiters to have attention. Lack of waiters. Anyway, the food was really nice although the risotto rice was slightly cracking , nice fancy presentations , good wine. Would recommend if more waiters.

Overall decent but: 1) Lower than expected quality/price ratio and 2) Lower than expected service level. We have been there tonight. We were two adults and two kids. We spent 122 euros for three menus touristique (entrée, plat, dessert) and a couple of dishes a la carte, one bottle of their cheapest wine and two coffees. We had croquantes de chèvre chaud, axoa de veau, merlue a l'espagnole, douceur de apricot, profiterole Maison. The croquantes were tasty but far too greasy. The vegetables in the merlue and the axoa were too similar, the merlue didn't benefit from it, tastes were somewhat disconnected from one another and the dish was not as tasty as I wished. The douceur was cooked apricots in a yogurt creme. The apricots were cut in two and hard to eat. The rest of the fruit were cut in a fruity cream variegated in the yogurt. Too homogenous in texture and tastes. The profiterole were two chunks of chou dough filled with whipped cream and icecream, good but far from artisanal as claimed in the faite maison name. Waiters were distant and cold, as if they diswliked us...

Reasonable price and high quality. We are more than happy.

At entry I announced that unfortunate 2 others cancelled last minute, first reply was no “welcome” or “good evening” but grumpy reply why not inform them… (I just got notified about cancellation) Tortilla appetizer was great! So was the fish… But steak mains was far undercooked and simply raw and un-chewable!! Service replies clearly annoyed about it. Same time about 40-50 teenagers came in and were loud n obnoxious (can’t help that I got the impression this place turned into a mass chew house). 2nd and last time I’ve been here..

The "traditional" menu set is €35 you get first a nice omelette then you have a big piece of fish served with peppers and fried garlic, then you have the master piece, the beef was cooked to perfection and so tasty 😋 and then they brought a plate of cheese with coin jam and a basket of walnuts. This set menu also included unlimited cider and bread. The service was great, a very nice and smiley Spanish lady. I would recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a great time in a very typical place. I'll go again for sure. 🙌

One waiter, one chef - perfect execution. It’s not always you find a menu where you want to try everything. We were in a group of 5 with everyone ordering something different. Chef is very versatile as each dish from fish to lamb to pork to pigeon was very pleasurable.

A delicious meal that exceeded my expectations. Perhaps somewhat more expensive than neighboring lunch spots, but worth it. The food was of excellent quality, the service was great and friendly, and the location is especially peaceful on a quiet street with a view of the Cathedral across the river. I went there twice, and I wish I could have gone a third time on my last day in Bayonne, but unfortunately, it was closed. I was so disappointed! The food here is absolutely lovely, and the service is friendly and welcoming. If I ever return to Bayonne, this restaurant will be my only choice!

What an incredible coincidence, we wanted something to lunch on a sunday and so few options open... there were other restaurants near but I felt that this one might be a good choice, and it was... the typical french restaurant... full of local people eating (always a good sign). We had 40€ menu with appetizer, first, second and dessert... i had the Coquilles first, later a cannard with petit poies and few typical french desert, everything was sensational.

Great italian food, in our case some generously decorated pizza’s. Tiramisu for dessert is a no-brainer, though initially it seems expensive. However, the portion you get is rather big and simply delicous. No regrets :) Also note that the lady who seems to be the manager speaks English well.

First time in my life I have been to a place that is two business at the same time and both are really good! So I live in Bayonne for 3 years now and Im wondering why havent been here before? All is home made using local products, the prices are very good for the area and if you are a music lover you can have your coffee while looking at their great stock, really wide range of styles and epoques. We will be back..many times! Great discovery! And dont forget to try their black burger!

The atmosphere of this place is great. It feels like a little record store where you can listen to good music and grab a bite. It's perfect to stop for a coffee and a cookie and browse through records. The food, however, it's not that great and I found it a little over priced. Maybe my lunch choice was not the best... I'd go back just for a drink or dessert.

The food was good, the service was timely and polite, and they are kid friendly (we had a party of 9 with 5 kids and they were happy to serve us and very accommodating). They also had a really cool aesthetic with a record shop theme (you can buy music from their displays).

They were able to offer adaptations for gluten free dishes and also lactose and meat free plates on the menu du midi which was well worth the €22 for entree + plat. Vegetables were succulent and the ceviche excellent with clearly a talented chef. Plenty of space to sit either inside, on the pedestrian street or in the building opposite, all with a pleasant ambiance. The homemade lemonades for €3.50 were distinctly refreshing to wash down the meal. Overall an outstanding restaurant with really friendly and efficient service in the heart of Bayonne that can also cater well for dietary requirements, which seemed challenging in these parts.

My family and I stopped here for dinner and we had really high hopes, the reviews online looked really good and we were excited to try traditional local food. We started with the fois gras, and I went to the bathroom to wash my hands however by the time I came back the waiter was already back taking our main entree meals. I wasn’t ready to order so I told him that I needed an extra second to decide and to come back however he said that the kitchen was closing and that he couldn’t come back. Normally I would understand but it was 45 minutes before their official closing time and I felt super pressured which led me to order a burger because it was the first thing I saw. On top of this the same waiter continuously checked his watch and was incredibly eager to go home. I would understand if we were the last customers in the restaurant but it was still more than half full at this time and other tables hadn’t even ordered yet. The fois gras wasn’t too bad however the waiter didn’t tell us how small the portion size was, which made it hard to share between all of us. My family ordered the menu with an entree, main course and dessert. The entrees we received tasted okay at best, however the portion sizes were downsized compared to the rest of the menu which I felt was pretty predatory but nevertheless understandable considering the difference in price. Regardless I was more hopeful for the main courses however I was quickly disappointed by my burger which was incredibly dry, and as seen in one of the pictures the sauce and caramelized onions were all bunched up in one spot of the burger leaving most of it dry and flavorless and one bite of it incredibly overpowering. The bread was super dry and irritated the roof of my mouth which was very unappealing. Additionally the fries were way overcooked and I felt like I almost broke my teeth while eating them. The salad was once again okay at best because it was frankly flavorless and their “vinaigrette” was just mayonnaise. The fish that my sister had ordered had absolutely no flavor, the sauce that was left over wasn’t even worth scooping up with bread. I was happy that the chef accommodated my other sister, who is vegetarian, and let us change out the main course with a vegetarian option. She got the truffle mushroom ravioli which was the only good tasting thing we had that night, so maybe the chef should stick to vegetarian dishes. Another thing that irked me a lot was that towards the end of our meal, when the waiter started putting the chairs up they put the feet of the chairs directly on the table top (as seen in the pictures). Not only is this probably a health violation but it’s simply disgusting who would want to eat on the same table where the feet of the chairs stay?! I’m not sure if we got unlucky or came too close to closing, but I would definitely not recommend this place if you come within 3 hours of closing or you have a very high chance of getting rushed out. I also wouldn’t recommend being the first in the restaurant because I doubt they clean the tables after taking the dirty chair feet off of them.

They have an artisanal vegan burger that’s easily one of the best I’ve had in the world, and hands down the best in France. Grilled squid with risotto is divine. I too witness this behaviour whilst I was enjoying my meal. I strongly suggest they re-evaluate this practice in order not to impinge upon their success as restauranteurs. Nevertheless, I would not hesitate to frequent the establishment if I ever return to these parts.

Incredible service. Super healthy food. Compact menu and more importantly incredible food. We got the Vietnamese Pho with Tofu and Nasi Goreng with chicken. The pho was slightly sweet but the sriracha that you have on the table got it to the desired spice level. Nasi Goreng with chicken was awesome, would definitely recommend ordering it.
