Excellent food and service was so nice. I never recommend so high a place but this one is incredible if you compare quality price.

Just returned from a 3 night stay, what a wonderful place, staff were great, so polite and attentive, food was remarkable! A great stop off for us as we have family in France , here was very relaxed!
Stephen H — Google review
As always, we were delighted of having lunch here. The staff are professional, friendly, respectful, attentive and really nice. They pay attention to every detail and they make sure everything is perfect while you are there. The food was amazing. Fresh, well cooked and tasty. We have missed coming here while the Covid pandemic so much. We were delighted of celebrating our little man 4th birthday with our parents here. We have all enjoyed a lot.
Tere R — Google review
We came here for lunch, it was a real treat! The food was delicious, the setting lovely, the staff professional.
Inge B — Google review
We stayed for 1 night and felt for the price the hotel was fantastic. The hotel is in a renovated old mill and has a very cozy and warm atmosphere. They have an indoor fireplace too which was great for December. We felt some of the things could be improved on like the initial yard you see from the road had junk and some of the interior had a broken windows and lock. We had dinner and got the roomservice breakfast 15 € ea, highly recommend. the rooms were spacious and beautiful.
Craig D — Google review
It almost deserves a 5 star but for some small details that were not quite right, like room not done quite properly on first 2 nights (missing bedsheets). But overall, it still is an absolutely delightful place, with friendly and helpful staff, beautiful and cozy rooms and all the amenities you'd expect. It's really well situated, walking distance from the empuries ruins, the beaches and the centre of the charming town of l'Escala. We may well visit again
Stephan S — Google review
The food is fantastic and delicious. The service is excellent. We arrived at 15:15 (the kitchen closes at 15:40) and they served us anyway! That to me is the epitome of hospitality. The space is also sort of magical and cozy. I want to come back here all of the time!
J T — Google review
Beautiful restaurant just in the entrance of l’escala, with a huge parking and cool terrace. We had dinner there and we have ordered some dishes, the best were cod fritters, eggplant tataky and carpaccio of foie and truffle. The food was exceptional and the wines were well priced. From the other side the dishes took 25’ to come and the service (waitress) was not the best, everyone could have a bad day but in front of the people you need to be careful. We were expecting more kindful attitude and more attention due to the name of the restaurant. I hope they will sort it out and I will give more stars next time!

Mediterranean restaurant
Nestled in the heart of L'Escala, La Gruta is a culinary gem that beautifully marries Mediterranean and French influences. This charming restaurant boasts a rustic-chic ambiance, complete with a cozy terrace perfect for al fresco dining. Guests can indulge in an array of dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients, ranging from classic black rice to innovative seafood creations. The six-course tasting menu is particularly noteworthy, offering an exquisite journey through flavors that leave diners delighted and satisfied.
We had dinner here last week and cannot recommend it highly enough! Our most treasured meal in four weeks in Spain. We chose the six course degustation which changes daily. For us it included sashimi, beef carpaccio, cantaloupe soup with basil mousse, fish of the day, truffle filet mignon, and the most amazing dessert I’ve ever had, a twin eclair with chocolate ice cream. I do not know how they made the gelato so delicious, it was so reasonably priced for a Michelin star restaurant, not pretentious, and the wine list was brilliant. Beautiful atmosphere sitting in the courtyard, we were the last to leave! The kitchen team were amazing and it has created lasting memories for us. Definitely recommend.
Lindsay R — Google review
Amazing meal at La Gruta. We came here to celebrate our 20th anniversary and we loved every bite. We got the 6 course tasting menu and it didn’t disappoint. They had a fantastic selection of wine as well. Service was fantastic and we left with smiles on our faces and full bellies. We highly recommend going here if you want to experience a truly divine culinarily experience and great atmosphere. I do recommend sitting in the stone room (planta 0) or outside. Planta 1 was a little quiet and lacked any excitement. Request the table by the kitchen if you want to see the chef in action!
Peter M — Google review
This was perhaps one of the best “fancy” dining experiences of our lives. We all chose the Chefs Menu and were blown away by the flavors and presentation. We drank house wine which was excellent! It was a complete dining experience. Highly recommend.
Brian G — Google review
One of the best restaurants this year!! Every dish was delicious and every flavour was very well developed. We had the 6 course menu, what an experience! Damage: very well worth it.

Recommend by a local. Chose a 3-course menu (it’s a bargain! Only €30! Michelin star quality) - absolutely amazing. Must try their sirloin beef 😋 super friendly staff and beautiful terrace.

Very nice gastronomic expérience. Very good service, excellent and surprising food. They adapted the menu for our allergies. Very good wine advice and choice. We will be back! A must do in La Escala

First discovered this place in 2012/2013 and have loved it ever since. It has become a MUST every time we are near Perpignan. Warm welcome, great service and food that takes you places… The couple that run the place have found their calling and perfected it…

Exquisite location paired with very attentive service. Menu at lunchtime well-coordinated, including water. Wine is a mere 7€ additional fee, but it’s worth every penny. Foie Gras, Salmon Supreme, Chocolate cake and Cardahio (Coffee with brandy).

El Roser 2 is a charming family-run restaurant that beautifully blends traditional Mediterranean cuisine with modern culinary creativity. Located along the stunning coastline of L'Escala, it offers diners breathtaking views of the Bay of Roses. Since 2005, brothers Jordi and Rafael Sabadi have been at the helm, ensuring that each dish reflects their passion for high-quality local ingredients while embracing seasonal flavors.
Great views behind glass at many tables. Excellent food. Shrimp carpaccio, foie gras, L'Escala anchovies
Kent W — Google review
No bad places only bad prices. Despite the small portion size you should expect upwards of 50€-70€ per person. Certainly a very centric location with great seaside view can inflate prices. But still plenty of restaurants nearby offer similar view, product and service for a better price.
Tyra — Google review
Fabulous place with delicious flavored food that tastes as great as it looks.. Place located in beautiful location with peaceful views.. We had an amazing dinner with sunset over the sea.. Really recommend this place..
Sanita T — Google review
Quite the most delicious seafood in a beautiful setting. A well deserved Michelin star restaurant with good wine at reasonable prices.
Cathy J — Google review
Gorgeous views, overpriced food and average service. The food was not outright bad, just bland and underwhelming. Eaten at high-class restaurants, all over the world with renowned Michelin stars, so disappointing. You can eat better and cheaper in other places in l'Escala. This is not a terrible restaurant, it's just not worth the price and, in my opinion, doesn't deserve to be a Michelin Star.
Courtney P — Google review
Tiramisu has to be named differently !! This one is offensive !
Alexandra P — Google review
High expectations but turned out an overpriced and disappointing food with a bad service. We hat a table reservation at 2:30pm. They sat us on the only table with no window and facing a big stone wall behind a column. They didn't take care of our table after 20 minutes been sitting there,. We ordered the Menú Degustació and the first plate arrived to the table after 25 minutes we ordered, a total of 45 minutes sitting there with no food, any apology neither a plate explanation. The first dish was modified from the initial menu because they run off peas, the main ingredient, the alternative ingredient, fava beans made the dish no tasty how it was supposed to be. The second dish was really salty, we didn't finish it, we told it to the waiter but we didn't receive any explanation or apology about it. The third dish was okay and the fourth, the only meat dish, was the best. Neither the bread that they served us was good, it was a bad quality bread, re-defrosted dry bread. We ordered wine by the glass and it was a small selection that we could choose from, in opposite from the big wine menu. We got the smallest wine glasses ever. Unfortunately our experience was a disaster, they didn't take care of us and the food quality was just okay being nice. Only when we were leaving the table came the owner to ask us about the experience and when we explain it to her, she said a simple "sorry". I can understand that an Easter Sunday is a busy day, but your business and service has to be good no matter that. You can't make differences between the usual costumers and the new ones, because these new ones won't come back again and they pay also. So sorry that they obviously don't care. We won't go back. Grans espectacions destrossades per una qualitat pésima del servei i un menú Degustació amb moltes mancances. No tornarem.

Nestled in the charming town of L'Escala, L'Esculapi is a beloved dining spot that has stood the test of time. This inviting venue boasts rustic wooden beams and outdoor seating, perfect for soaking up the stunning Costa Brava views while savoring delicious home-cooked meals. The menu features an array of delightful options, including baked lamb, grilled sardines, pasta dishes, pizzas, and traditional paellas—all crafted with care using high-quality ingredients.
I’ve been here three times and the atmosphere is wonderful, the staff is very attentive and the pizza is the best pizza ive ever had - Wow! The crepe was so tasty and my stepdad could attest to a nice burger. I would highly recommend trying their pizza!
Anna F — Google review
The food, the service and the ambiente are very good. The appetizer sardines, the paellas and the pizzas are really good and are definitely ‘must eats’. The offered house wine is so so, there is room to improve. Considering the valuable price the overall rating should be 4,5 stars. Unfortunately the system doesn’t allow number in between 4 and 5.
Michael S — Google review
the service was great and we appreciated that alot the food - artichokes fried a bit boring and needs a sauce, they brought us mayo and ketchup the duck canneloni is pretty good the lamb shoulder had no seasoning but otherwise was ok we failed to ask for tap water and thus were forced to pay for the bottled water... and why do they bring it to the table uncapped? it should be opened at the table in front of the customer my wife was happy but i was neither wowed or impressed.

Went for the proper lunch. Excellent restaurant top on small hill near by the beach. We ate mussels as a starters and mixed paella for a main. Definately need to go back to taste scorpion fish. + dogs allowed atleast at the terrace!👍🏻

Fantastic local cuisine at a fantastic location, with a strong emphasis on fresh seafood. We visited for Sunday lunch and the restaurant was very busy but the staff still found us a great table. Service was prompt and efficient. The local anchovies were a standout part of our lunch.
Paul O — Google review
The food was a very good standard and the staff very professional. The food isn't that different to thousands of other restaurants in the area but the location is what makes it special. There was nothing wrong and maybe a 3 star on the food is a little harsh but for me to mark a 4 or 5 there need to be something different to the rest. I highly recommend a visit.

Incredible tapas bar in the heart of l'escala. Scrumptious food, authentic Spanish recipes with a twist of modernity and style. Great service and pleasant atmosphere, will definitely be back.
Sebastien T — Google review
Tapas were quite good, the sashimi was very good and tasty but almost frozen, the croquetes were really excellent, the Spanish omelette was overcooked and finally the clamps were tasteless, same as the lemon pie that was "home made" but it did not taste like home made. The service was very good and the environment amazing. As you see below the price is in line with the food, 20 euros per person, I will come back to taste different options

Super friendly staff and very good food. Even though the menu is in many different languages, it is not a tourist trap. Would come back any time!

Very nice restaurant. Good service with tasty food. For main We ordered fish, ravioli and panzerotti. No disappointment here. Fantastic food
Arek G — Google review
Excellent service, nice ambiance. I really liked that one of their desserts was ‘solidari’ which means they donate the earnings to some NGO. It’s the mango foam and it’s delicious! I recommend the vieira and the corvina carpacio too. The rest was good too, but I wouldn’t repeat. Probably would not come back here cause there are sooo many places to try in L’Escala.
Anca C — Google review
The Hamburger was okay and warm, but the French fries were absolutely cold. Drinks have a pretty small size. Service was good. The restaurant is located in the old town near a small beach.
Frederik — Google review
Disappointing! We looked forward to eating here at the end of our stay in l’Escala mainly because, unusually, the menu has many vegetarian or vegan choices. We ordered spring rolls, the vegetable lasagne, a chickpea and black olive burger, lemon basil sorbet and the chocolate fondant. The starter was two tiny rolls of filo? pastry containing a few strips of cabbage and one piece of carrot in only one of the rolls. They were dry, only browned at the ends and about half the size of the rolls pictured by previous customers on Google and Trip advisor and on Grop’s own site. Despite being shown as “spicy” on the menu they did not appear to have been seasoned. Thankfully they came with a sweet chilli sauce. The lasagne was in a dish with a lot of thin white sauce flavoured with nutmeg and possibly a little cream. Between the layers of pasta there was a kind of paste with some flecks of colour but no distinguishable vegetables despite supposedly being made with onion, leek, carrot, courgette, mushroom and red pepper. The burger was a patty of chickpea purée flecked with slivers of black olive and on one side there were enough for the olive flavour to actually come through. It was garnished with one slice of tomato on top and one underneath plus nine leaves of rocket. The menu says it was flavoured with spices but none were detectable. The sorbet was well flavoured with a hint of basil that went really well with the lemon. The chocolate fondant was two small buns of dry chocolate sponge one of which was burnt on the bottom. The fondant was thin liquid and not the unctuous thick sauce that normally oozes out when you cut into a fondant. The food was edible but overall it was bland, poorly seasoned and did not live up to expectations (or descriptions) with the exception of the sorbet. As always, the restaurant was very busy so it may be just the vegetarian/vegan options that could use some TLC. There was a large group being served at the same time as us, so we probably did not see the restaurant at its best but we will not be giving it a second visit any time soon.

This inviting eatery is open year-round, making it a perfect spot for both casual dining and romantic evenings.
Really good Catalan food here. One can tell the product is fresh and things are cooked nicely. We loved everything we had. We went for the regular menu and we were quiet full. It might be a bit pricey for Spanish people as 50€ x person is a lot and one could argue there are cheaper places but quality here is top! I highly recommend this place and I would definitely come back!

We stopped by in this beautiful place and got lured into Meson del Conde restaurant for lunch. Boy, we didn't regret it. The setting is very nice for outside sitting, and the menu offers quite a few great options. Our monk fish special and the suckling pig both were simply amazing. Highly recommended.

Non descript restaurant - terrace too hot in august. Inside very nice furnishing( 60 year anniversary when we went) with a/c ( essential in summer) Firsts we had mussels - half of which were closed and 2 were borderline off. Tomato salad which was good but too much onion. Seconds I had turbet supreme on grill - a little dry. My partner had sardines a la brasa - somewhat mushy texture (grilled sardines should be crispy outside firm meat) We mentioned the mussels and received no reaction. On paying 88 euros the waiter did not offer me the receipt - and i had to ask for it. To sum up - its a tourist restaurant that has seen better days. They obviously are not interested as the passing tourist trade will keep the tables full. La Terrasa restaurant next door is far better but only has terrace ( no a/c)
Paul B — Google review
One of the best arroz negro y pulpo I have recently had. The rice was super crunchy, not too salty, the fish and shrimps were super soft - that indicates it’s just so fresh. Honestly a great lunch, I would repeat it!

Spanish restaurant
Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of LEscala's town center, Mas Concas is a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. Set within a beautifully restored 17th-century masia, this restaurant radiates a unique medieval charm that feels both inviting and authentic. The menu features exquisite regional dishes paired with delightful local wines, all served in an enchanting historical atmosphere. Guests have praised the impeccable quality of the food and attentive service, making every visit feel special.
We had been recommended to visit Mas Concas by an American friend and the 2nd time passing we managed to schedule Lunch. The restaurant is slightly off of the beaten track but easily accessible, a local farmhouse in appearance its welcoming and familiar. Upon entering the dining room is not immediately obvious and no indication of direction a small arrow or sign would be great, you are however greeted with the history and connections of the owner and staff , the walls filled like a mini museum. The dining room is upstairs and has been modernised and updated To a comfortable aesthetic. The staff were immediately attentive and appeared many and well orchestrated. The menu was interesting in a few languages and had a section for the menu if the day at current prices the Chef Menu is €37 for 3 courses and the daily only €27 and included a glass of wine , a bargain in such a classy establishment. My partner and I chose different dishes and as I don't eat meat I hit the fish dishes for 2 courses . The food was delicious in all cases and on occasion beautifully presented. The mixed seafood starter was interesting but mostly followed local traditions the 2 marinated fish items did somehow lack flavour just slightly, the Foie Gras was fabulous but not necessarily very ethical to be honest. The Mains were also great my Paella was perfect and the prawns sympatheticly cooked and tender it was the attention to details that made the meals shine. The Steak was delicious and medium was mostly rare but appeared well hung slightly shy on flavour and not comparable to a Tuscan grass fed steak but at this prices you could not expect that. Deserts were just beautiful and rewarding. We had a delicious bottle of white wine served very cold and professionaly. Overall the experience was very satisfying and of an elevated level in all areas, I must compliment the owners and staff for providing excellent food and service at what is excellent value. We would love to return hopefully not to far in the future. Thanks.

Really nice restaurant! The interior of the place was really well thought out and made you feel super cozy. The food was really good although the portions could’ve been a bit bigger, especially the main course. The desserts weren’t quite what we expected from the description but nevertheless also very delicious. Recommend it 100% 🥰

Nestled just 50 meters from the stunning Cala Montgo beach, Restaurant Oreig is a delightful culinary gem located at the crossroads of L'Escala and Torroella de Montgri, right in the heart of Costa Brava. With its spacious terrace, it’s an ideal spot to unwind with friends or family while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. The menu is a feast for the senses, featuring everything from delectable sushi and traditional fideuà to exquisite seafood dishes infused with Japanese flair.
The food was tasty and delicious! Most of us in the group had sushi, and we loved it. Service was just okay. We booked for 2:00 PM, but they told us to come between 3:00 and 3:15 PM. We arrived around 3:05 and were told to wait 15–20 minutes. In the end, we waited almost an hour because one staff member missed our spot in the line and gave another group a table before us. We ordered drinks while waiting. Once seated, we ordered and the food came out quickly, which was great—we were starving! The restaurant atmosphere itself is cozy when it’s not too noisy. (I forgot to take photos of the other food we had and the restaurant area)
Syeny R — Google review
We did not feel welcome. The service was friendly but very patronizing. The difference in treatment between us and the Spanish-speaking guests was noticeable. For an establishment of this standard, this is not acceptable. We run a hotel ourselves and do not tolerate such behavior. The food was ok. We had Pasta with lobster and Hamburger.

Nice trendy restaurant close to Montgo beach. Very nice food. We ordered from the sushi menu, and the rolls are creative and very good. Very fresh ingredients and very well-made. Extensive drinks options as well. Service is fast and friendly. Book a table in advance to avoid being disappointed. Definitely recommended.

Absolutely the BEST place to eat in L'Escala if you love authentic sushi and Japanese cuisine. Definitely worth the visit, just make sure you book before you arrive, as the waiting list can be a week! ❤️👍❤️👍

We are here on our first night in Montgó. The food was good and atmosphere great.

Terrible! We arrived at 8:00 PM. After we ordered, all the appetizers were brought to our tables at different times. One salad simply wasn't brought at all and was only added to the main course. As a result, two of us couldn't eat for an hour. The appetizers were overpriced and some of them weren't worth the price. The paella was burnt, and the tortellini were simply salty and had little flavor. My chicken salad had a piece of gristle in it. Some leaves also tasted like dirt. If no one speaks Spanish, you're automatically treated worse. Bad service, expensive, and not worth the price!

Ultramar restaurant offers a pleasant ambience with its attractive surroundings, soothing jazz music, and well-designed interior. Notably, this establishment is pet-friendly on the lower level. The cuisine served here is delectable, leaving customers satisfied with their meals. However, it should be noted that some patrons were unaware of the additional charge for bottled water, resulting in unintended multiple purchases. Despite this oversight, the staff are amiable and proficient in English communication.
Amazingly stylish place at the probably most beautiful location L'Escala has to offer. Cocktails are worth trying, and the sound system is pristine. Will come back definitely!

We visited towards the end of the season so quite a lot of the menu was not available. My husband had chicken and chips which he said was quite basic. I went for the octopus and was thoroughly impressed! It was absolutely delicious. We also had a very good bottle of white wine and some lovely sea views. I think the experience may have been better in peak season with more menu options.
Laura D — Google review
Food become pretty awful here, we use to come here a lot before the pandemic, but now the food quality and taste has dropped drastically. Most of the dishes we had are close to tasteless. The only good thing was the drinks, highly suggest the owner turn this place in to bar with some snacks choices, instead of keeping this place as a restaurant. Service was so so, atmosphere was not bad a nice Mariana vibe.
Charmander L — Google review
It’s a very nice and cozy restaurant, the decor and style are just pretty. The menu has some pretty nice options, classics but with a twist (quality of the ingredients could have been a bit better). Reason for my 4 stars instead of the 5 is the service: I don’t know, maybe due to the restaurant has such a beautiful position and amazing ambience I was expecting something more (I mean, a little bit more of attention and professional service). Choose a table on the first floor and ask for views.

The food was okay, i liked the sardines a lot and squid was good too. You can also buy oysters (which were amazing) from a lady working right next to restaurant. I think they are in collabration not quiet sure. The problem is service, it is slow and i found it pretty rude that the menu was taken in front of us and given to another customer. I would be alright if there were no other menus but there was a stack of menus over there. We wanted to order something else and waiting for the menu took pretty long. Anyway the vibes were good, right near to see which is lovely.

Booked for the Benjamin Herman jazz evening at 10pm. When we arrived, chefs were acting as waiters and the place felt chaotic. We were told our table was being prepared, but ended up waiting 25 minutes past our booking time with no apology. When we asked if we could at least get a drink while we waited, we were told no “the table is being prepared, give us one minute.” Ten minutes later, still no table. So we left. Really disappointing experience. The venue felt understaffed and disorganised. A real shame, because the location and view are incredible.

The view from the restaurant, jazz music, interior were all good..they accepted dogs downstairs. Food was yummy..enjoyed the meal...but didnt know they charged a bottle of water for 2.20..so ended up having 7 bottles... the staff were friendly and spoke English.

Ultramar must be visited when in L’Escala. The food is tasty and local, creatively crafted and delicious. The restaurant is a mix of seaside colours and hints of eclectic art. I recommend the anchovies and the bacalao buñuelos, as well as the tuna. Worth visiting for a drink before sunset and a relaxed dinner right by the sea. We’ve come both for lunch and dinner and can recommend both. If you’re looking for a relaxed meal, look no further. On some days they even have live music, so keep an eye out for their event on their social media.

Restaurant El Gotim is a cherished gem in L'Escala, evoking fond memories for many who have visited since childhood. Its charming interior sets it apart from typical dining spots, creating an inviting atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and unique. Although it doesn't feature a terrace, the restaurant's authentic Catalan ambiance makes every visit worthwhile. Located a few blocks away from the beach eateries, El Gotim offers well-displayed daily menus with options often translated into English and French to cater to tourists.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch at this cozy restaurant. Service was prompt and very efficient. Atmosphere is quaint and unpretentious. Our food was fresh, light, and perfectly seasoned. We left feeling to perfect amount of full. Recommend the crispy bread starter. Would definitely return!

We had an absolutely delightful fideuà for early lunch along with a delicious burrata salad. The fideuà was so rich and flavorful. And the salad was rich and refreshing. They were welcoming snd able to seat us right away, even without a reservation. The atmosphere with the vaulted brick ceiling was wonderful.

The quality was really good. I like the two dishes we chose. The negative point goes for the price and the quantity of the foods. Especially the lamb dish was really small according to the price they offered.

For the last 4 years we have our summer holidays at L'Escala. We drive all the way from Switzerland. The first thing we do when we arrive to our destination is having lunch in 'El Gotim'; it has become a tradition. We have never been. I am not sure what do we wait with more yearing, for the whole year, our first bath on the sea or our lunch in 'El Gotim'. Great Catalan food!

Nice little old school restaurant in a traditional volta catalana setting. The restaurant was clean. Service was relatively fast and on point despite being busy at lunch time. We didn’t get the set menu but instead ordered few dishes to share as starters (parmentier with anchovies, shrimps, and shrimp carpaccio) and rice with scallops (3 people portion) as mains. Everything was absolutely delicious and all came in generous portions. We had to take some rice home as we were so full. We went there for early Sunday lunch around 1.30pm and it was packed. Booking in advance is recommended.

El Remanso - cuina a les brases is a hidden gem that truly captivates with its warm hospitality and generous portions. If you're a meat lover, this restaurant is your paradise, offering an array of succulent meat dishes reminiscent of the flavors found in Argentina. Diners rave about their patatas bravas and calamares a la andaluza, alongside other mouthwatering options like clams, cuttlefish, and meatballs.
The food is absolutely outstanding. We had the clams, cuttlefish, meatballs, an ensaladsa russia, another salad and our kids had the kids steak combination platter. Everything was excellent, the sauces for several of the dishes were outstanding and overall we loved it. Add to that the views from their outdoor seating while the sun sets, and I'll be back many times.

I have never been treated with this much disregard !!!! To avoid !!! Details of what happened We asked for 1 ginfizz, 1 ti punch, blue lagoon and one ice tea... waited 20-25 min for them while there was nobody. ALL three cocktails were failures except the ice tea fresh from the bottle. I kindly went to the waitress and explained the situation she called the owner which as chilling and drinking with her friends. She asked us what was the matter. We explained politely that the cocktails were not good. She asked us to leave while we were ready to pay for new ones. Dont be fooled by the fake onwer which appear to be nice... she is nice when things go her way. You are warned !

Skip everything else in this town and go here. Not exaggerating one bit. Prices are 70-80% of what everyone else asks but their flavours and cuisine is 200%. It's only slightly out of the touristy zone, yet insane what kind of difference. Atmosphere is nice and quiet, easygoing, the place itself is filled with interesting memorabilia which u can feast your eyes upon while u wait. Best Sangria we've had in this town. In terms of food: I've travelled all over Europe, I have never had SUCH a flavour experience as here. Everyone in the family agrees. Can highly recommend the provolone and squid with shiitake. Staff is genuinely happy and nice people. Not forced to smile while stressed out running a double shift. A MUST DO if you're in L'escala!!!

Wow!!!! We had a great dinner, in a great setting, with fantastic service! We shared six entrees between the two of us. The waitress organized to served them in the perfect order and with great care. Every dish tasted great! I have been in restaurant and hotel business for the past 45 years working as a chef and it’s been a long time since I enjoyed myself as much as I did tonight!!! Thank you very much for such a great evening!

Very disappointed - four of us arrived to a half full restaurant with plenty of outside seating at 10:30pm on Saturday night wanting to sit outside and enjoy a bottle of wine. We were told by a waitress that “We are a restaurant and don’t serve just drinks”. This is despite you advertising you serve cocktails. In the 25 years I’ve been coming to L’Escala I’ve never been to a restaurant that refuses customers to enjoy just a drink. Very poor service and won’t be coming back as clearly they’re doing very well and can afford to turn away business. This is a shame as we’ve eaten here and it was nice.

If you're a fan of exquisite wines and refined cuisine, Uain bar&store is an absolute gem you shouldn't miss. Nestled in the charming town of L'Escala, this cozy wine bar offers a delightful blend of traditional dishes reimagined with a modern flair. The extensive wine list can be quite impressive, but fear not—the knowledgeable owner is on hand to guide you through the selections and recommend perfect pairings for your tapas.
On our first evening in L’ Escala we were looking for something special, but also cozy. We have found this wine bar by accident, what a luck! The bar offers a great selection of delicious and creative tapas paired with a great selection on unique wines. The wine card can seem pretty overwhelming, the owner however is very professional and makes great recommendations on which wine pairs with which tapas the best. We have chosen 5 tapas, suggested by the owner. We started with a glass of cava. The tapas was served one by one. Allowing us to savor each course with a corresponding wine. We had a fresh salad with St. Jacques, smoked tuna sashimi, foie gras, saam of chicken and tartare. Our highlight was a red wine from 1995. For our delights including at the end a coffee and a dessert. We have paid 150€. A great value for the impeccable service, unique wines and delicious food. One of us had multiple allergies, the service was professional and the kitchen adjusted the tapas, so that it can be enjoyed by all at the table (thank you for that)! If you can visit this wine bar while in L’Escala, you won’t regret it.

We were lucky to get the last table, having not made reservations. And this is off season, mind you. The interior design is tasteful and cunning. While you are led to your table you walk over glas and you can see the vine cellar in the basement. There are 4 smaller tables and 2 bigger ones. The team consists of 2 men at the tables, providing impeccable service to the guests and two women in the kitchen to churn out delicious tapas. While you should at least reserve 2h for this culinary course, you do not feel left alone for a minute. Everything works hand in hand flawlessly and the tapas do come in the right order and composition. A feat not easily done when 9 tapas plus dessert and beverages are to be harmonized. Each tapas is more or less double digits and than there is the fireworks for 2 persons with all the kitchen can muster and wine included for 175,-. The Man of the house, a sommelier, prides himself of flanking every flavor with the perfect match of vine . The tasty dessert menu even makes suggestions of the perfect companion to the sweets. Like I said, expect 2h of culinary delight and your account to be lightened by triple digits together with your better half. I am certainly happy that this family enterprise knows how to make this concept work. And while not every course suited my pallet the whole experience is well worth it. Strong recommendations for a special evening. Don't miss the Xuxo :-)

A reservation in advance is actually smart, considering that the restaurant is pretty small but super cozy and furnished with loving details. The food was incredibly delicious, so many special flavors, the bowl but also the curry’s tasted so incredible, we were very happy with our food choices! We can recommend it to everyone!! Absolutely amazing experience! One might not immediately think of eating Thai food when visiting Spain, but you’d be wrong not to, this place is a true hidden gem. We visited this wonderful Thai restaurant while traveling through Costa Brava, and it completely exceeded our expectations. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted so warmly. I had the Tom Yum soup, and it was hands down the best I’ve ever tasted, so perfectly balanced, fragrant, and flavorful that I even wrote down every single ingredient so I can try to recreate it at home! We also shared the samosa starters, which were absolutely delightful, crisp, light, and packed with flavor. What really blew us away was how pet-friendly it is. We were traveling with our dog, and they surprised us by bringing out a special little bowl of healthy food with rice just for him, along with some water. Such a thoughtful and heartwarming gesture, it made the whole evening extra special. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, the service was outstanding, and you can really feel the care and passion the team puts into everything they do. Highly, highly recommend this gem to anyone visiting the area! You better reserve your spot up front though, we were lucky we entered right when they opened and they had a spot left for us.

With an inviting atmosphere enhanced by fantastic music and attentive service, it promises a memorable dining experience. The culinary offerings are impressive, showcasing ambition and creativity that go beyond typical fare. Whether you're enjoying dinner on their charming terrace before catching a concert nearby or unwinding with exquisite cocktails post-show, Bretta is perfect for any occasion.
Came after a walk through the Ruins with my family, we had a hamburger and fried shrimps and it was better than I expected, service speaks mulitple languages and was doing their best so everyone was attended and treated correctly. Great experience and different than a casual spanish restaurant or bar. One thing to improve: the staff also has to take care no one trespasses to the museum as its open from both sides, which made one of the waiters run into the ruins to catch someone who entered without a ticket.

We sat outside and were immediately struck by the atmosphere—fantastic music, fantastic service, and food that genuinely impressed. It’s tucked away, so not the easiest to stumble across, but well worth seeking out. What really stands out is that they’re clearly not resting on the usual tourist traffic. There’s ambition here—an effort to push boundaries, curate quality live acts, and deliver something memorable. A refreshing change. Check what music’s on and make the effort to visit—you’ll be glad you did.

Excellent experience. Great recommendation to the shared prawns lunch with three different sauces dish. The waiter (Max). Awesome overall. The service was good too, considering it was at lunchtime. Loved the music too. Definitely be back…

Very nice place inside the ruin area. Dishes are middle price. We order some arroz de costilla and it was pretty good. Service normal, we were waiting for the bill, being attendet and the food.

After strolling through the ancient ruins of the Greek and Roman city, you can end your walk at this great restaurant, which not only serves excellent food and has friendly staff, but also lets you, with an Aperol in hand, travel back in time.

Our second time at Bretta and, as always, impeccable in every way: the culinary concept, the food, the space, and the service… even the warm welcome is a solid 10. This time we went before a Portal Blau concert at the Empúries ruins, and it was the perfect formula: dinner on Bretta’s terrace at 8:00 pm, done by 9:30 pm and ready for the concert (just around the corner), and then, after the show, back to enjoy some truly magnificent cocktails. The outdoor space is perfect in summer — even in the middle of August, we were comfortable and relaxed. Service was attentive and friendly at all times, and we never wanted for anything. The food was eclectic and full of personality, with a Japanese grill whose aroma greets you the moment you arrive. The grilled sea bream was spectacular — one of the few places in L’Escala where you can enjoy fish grilled to perfection. The lighting sets a wonderful atmosphere and, as always, the wine list is superb. A flawless experience we will definitely repeat. And if I have to mention the worst part… it might have been me, who, in all the excitement, probably drank a little too much. If at any point I was too much… my apologies!

Delicious pizza. I ate there several times. The service is excellent, the food is clean, and the service is excellent

Nice service, good pizza, but a 4.8 as of this writing? -Definitely not. It has zero atmosphere as a restaurant. So consider it more like a "over the counter" pizza joint. And while the pizzas are good, I would rate them just above average, as is the price. The calzone is indeed one of the better ones.

The atmosphere is enhanced by live performances from local artists. Visitors can enjoy delicious food and refreshing drinks while taking in the cozy ambiance. We would give the restaurant setting and decor 5 stars. It had so much promise but was left sadly lacking by unfriendly, unwelcoming and surly service. We’d planned to have drinks followed by food but were left feeling so unwelcome by the rude waitress we didn’t stay. We tried to order some drinks and asked for a drinks menu - we were told they didn’t have one- I asked for orange juice and was told “no” and then suggested coffee and told “we don’t make coffee”. I was left to guess what they might have! She didn’t make any suggestions and seemed angry and irritable. My husband had ordered a beer and our daughter some wine. I didn’t order anything. They finished their drinks and we left as quickly as possible. We’ve spent two weeks in this beautiful area and have eaten gorgeous food in welcoming restaurants and cafes. I’ve never experienced such bizarre behaviour from a member of staff at a restaurant. Avoid Marokko .

Food is not bad at all, the restaurant can get a bit noisy as the table is so closes to each others. The dover sole was pretty good. Service wise is efficient enough in Spanish standards but lack of attentiveness or friendliness.

We recently had dinner here, 2 nights during the same week. The food is of a high standard and well worth the money. We were a party of four and everyone remarked on how good the food was. The location also adds to the ambience as it a frontline beach. If you are looking for guaranteed satisfaction this restaurant is well worth a visit.

Had the last dinner of our holiday here. We have been several times over the years and it never fails to impress, whether you want to wander in off the beach for a simple lunch or push the boat out with a gourmet meal. Our waitress Raquel was very friendly, professional and kind. The food was superb - great flavours, fresh ingredients, classic Catalan dishes done very well. We will always come back here when we are lucky enough to stay in beautiful, joyful L'Escala.

Horrible food, dirty dishes.. Service plates was dirty from other dishes, we told them they said sorry and picked it up. Salad should have some vinegar sauce, they have put PLAIN Yoghurt 😂 instead of the sauce. Nothing we ate was nice they also fully charged everything which was funny but we really didn’t have the motivation to fight for it.. Proper tourist scam, never again

El Pati Bistrot Tapes is a hidden gem that truly captures the essence of tapas dining. After missing out on a previous visit due to being fully booked, I finally secured a table and was thrilled with the experience. The menu boasts an array of delicious dishes, from succulent gamba to crispy patatas bravas and flavorful chicken sticks. Each plate is crafted with care, ensuring that every bite is packed with taste.
It was a pleasure to be able to eat here tonight. The restaurant was very busy. Good sign. After a short wait, we were offered a table outside. It was worth the wait. The food was fabulous. Every bite left you wanting one more. We shared 4 tapas and a goat cheese salad. We cleaned our plates. Then, we ordered one more item and dessert. The view, the service and most importantly the food were absolutely excellent. If we had one more night, I would go back tomorrow.

Start here, not at the tourist traps. El Patio has everything right, great drinks, kind staff, and a relaxed atmosphere. But the best part? The house dog. A sweet, soft Labrador Giya who made us feel at home. We lived right above this place and regret not coming sooner. Everything about it is genuinely wonderful.

Really too bad we couldn't eat here the day before, they were fully booked for the first round. So we booked for the next evening. The dishes are great ! Tasty and good as tapas should be. The gamba's were so good. We got 5 big ones. We also ordered patatas bravas, chicken sticks, fried potatoes, an appetizer excisting out of bread olives, Spanish sousage and cheese, beef slices and fries squid in batter. All in all verry good. The portions are fair, I mean it is tapas. Price quality is good. The drinks are not to expensive compared to the rest of the boulevard. They made a dessert for our doughter on our request. They had that on their menu. The service is considered and nice. We had a really great and enjoyable evening. After the bill, they treated us with a drink from the house. If you like tapas, this is the place. They also have a sweet dog chilling inside on her mat. Hey buddy, you come here to pet me, sure go ahead. I love it. Keep up the quality and ambiance, awesome and respect!

Nestled among the charming stone cottages of the historic fishing district in L'Escala, Restaurant Escala Park-Palm Beach offers a delightful dining experience. Guests rave about the attentive and swift service, complemented by an extensive menu featuring exquisite tapas, fresh seafood, and mouthwatering meats.
The service was great. The food is good too. The owner is french so as french people it was great because we could talk to him in french without trouble but the rest of the staff understand and speak a bit of french for the most part (they the know the necessary parts for sure). I even hit my Irish coffee and broke the glass, it was almost full and I genuinely told the owner that it was my fault and he didn't need to give me another one but he insisted and gave me another one. He definitely didn't have to do it since I was the one at fault but I must say this is a great commercial gesture and I would definitely come back. I'll be careful about not hitting my glass the next time though.

The view was nice, and the service was good, but the food could be better. We were with two, and one had rumpsteak, which was literally cold in the middle. It had to be sent back which led to us eating separately unfortunately. Also the plates were a bit boring; you order a steak, you get nothing but a steak and blank patatoes.

(Translated by Google) A good restaurant in L’Escala! The setting is pleasant, with a superb terrace ideal for enjoying the sun. The service is both attentive and fast, and the dishes are tasty for an establishment by the sea. As an added bonus, the waiter who welcomed us spoke French, which is appreciated by some. The value for money is excellent. The only downside: the tartare, which lacked finesse, looked more like minced meat than a real tartare cut with a knife, with just a small egg. Despite this, I highly recommend this place for a good meal with family or friends. (Original) Un bon restaurant à L'Escala !

(Translated by Google) We visited as a large family with five children and four adults for lunch and felt at home from the very first moment. The menu was also available in German. The service was extremely attentive and courteous. We were particularly impressed by how naturally and professionally our gluten-free diet was accommodated. When the salmon was served, a waitress immediately announced that it was the gluten-free dish (because we had ordered salmon three times), which simply gives you a good and secure feeling. Especially for a child with celiac disease, this is not something you can take for granted, and it really made our visit to the restaurant easier! The meal itself was truly delicious! We received a small greeting from the kitchen beforehand. The main course was also perfect: The food arrived for everyone at the same time, which isn't always the case with a larger group. All in all, a thoroughly successful restaurant visit, for which we would like to express our sincere appreciation!

We liked this so much we came back twice. My wife is Catalan and was impressed at the number of homemade style dishes, and also that they were presented in the regional style. We had xai (roasted baby goat) which was exceptional, and canelons (Catalan style cannelloni) which are an absolute must try. For the kids, we had a platter with a regional butifarra sausage, served with a fried egg, French fries and tomatoes. We also tried a burrata salad and calamari in a traditional sauce and bother were excellent. Desserts were great too with the lemon gelato being the sleeper hit.

Cal Galan 1966 is a beloved family-run spot in L’Escala that’s been around for decades. Known for their famous "galta" (pork cheek)—especially with creamy mushroom sauce and a side of eggs—this place delivers true casolana (home-style) cooking that warms the heart and fills you up. They also offer tasty house-made canelones, salads, and more, all at very reasonable prices. No reservations, so it’s best to arrive when they open, as it fills up fast during lunch. The staff are lovely, pets are welcome, and there are a few outdoor tables in the alley, perfect for a small group. Don’t miss their sangria—a great match for the food!

The best food I had in a long time. The restaurant is very popular. We arrived around 8 and were asked to wait 30 minutes for a table for 2. We were served drinks while waiting and got our table 20 minutes later. The food is excellent. The menue is relatively small but the items are prepared skillfully. Pork cheeks were so tender they fell apart in your mouth and the rare steak was on point. The starters were excellent as well. The wine recommendation was good. There is a broad selections of wine for your taste. The service is fine as well. While it might take a few minutes in busy hours the waiters do their best to help you select your dishes or drinks and make you feel very welcome. There is a broad selection of local spirits after dinner the staff is happy to explain and serve you as well. All in all it was a very pleasent experience. Went here on our first night in L’Escala and was thoroughly disappointed. Ordered a selection of tapas which was probably some of the worst I’ve ever eaten. The calamari was completely undercooked with soft, pale batter. We were then served chicken croquettes that were cold in the middle and garlic prawns served with burnt garlic. A really disappointing start to our holiday. Whilst we were given a discount on our bill after sending the food back, it’s safe to say we will not be returning. Would not recommend.

White wine by glass was quite average compared to what I had at the other restaurants in the neighborhood. Fried calamari and garlic shrimp was ok but nothing special. The only dish that was above average was the pork cheek. The service was quite good.

Delicious! Fantastic! You'll never regret coming here for dinner! Local cuisine mastered to perfection. Super friendly staff! We are definitely coming back!

We had a disappointing diner. Paella was served with way to much liquid, it was nearly a soup. And the staff seemed pressed to see us go out again. Starter came almost directly after being ordered, only moments after we have got the aperitif. Paella was served right after that. The pan and my plate and most other things were already being cleared from the table while my wife was still finishing here meal. No time to enjoy your meal.

Nestled just off the beaten path, Taverna de la Sal is a delightful culinary haven that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This charming spot not only boasts a menu rich in modern Catalan cuisine but also offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. The attentive service provided by Matt adds a personal touch, making guests feel like part of the family rather than just patrons. With its focus on high-quality ingredients and an authentic Mediterranean approach, every dish allows the flavors to shine through without unnecessary embellishments.
Excellent place. Each dish was amazing. The service was very efficient, outside a storm was falling and they reacted very well, they placed customers outside to the inside and picked up all very fast. At the same time the food continued to be served, fast and the most important delicious. The boss attended us he was very kind and treated us very well. We’ll come back fore sure.

We had a terrific dinner last night .We were greeted and seated by the very welcoming (fellow Kiwi) Matt and enjoyed wonderful service thereafter . Great burgers and drinks. Recommend .

An exceptionally pleasant place to dine — lively surroundings yet a haven of tranquility. The service is attentive, professional, courteous, and personal. A delight. The cuisine is consistently excellent. Very good products – an authentic Mediterranean approach to culinary philosophy: only as much is 'cuisinéed'' as is necessary, allowing the ingredients to shine. This is efficient, authentic, and simply enjoyable. It also demonstrates confident mastery. In addition to the hotel's already praised service, the restaurant is highly recommended. I will repeat the experience as soon as possible!

Absolutely the most amazing food that we had in L'escala. The menuu is perfect in its simplicity paying attention to flavours and quality. We enjoyed the duck and pork ribs for a main and the escargot and local anchovies as a starter and it was DIVINE. As was the dessert and regional liqueuer. AMAZING

Great food, very comfortable setting inside and on the terrace. Very efficient service. Great recommendations from the owner. I ordered a steak and it was perfectly done, very delicious. They specialize in grilled food, and they have a good variety well executed. The restaurant was full but the wait staff managed everything very well. Would love to come back when in l'Escala. Consider making reservations as they get pretty full for dinner.

A hidden gem just off the main path Taverna de la Sal gave us one of the most meaningful dining experiences we've had in Spain. The food, drinks, and prices were all excellent, but what made it unforgettable was Matt. He sat with us, shared his story, listened to ours, and reminded us what real human connection feels like. In a sea of rushed, impersonal service, he's a gem. There’s a beautiful hotel upstairs we hadn’t even noticed, but the heart of this place is the sense of community. Warm, generous, and authentic. Skip the tourist traps. This is where you want to be.

If you're on the hunt for an exceptional pizza experience, look no further than Pizzes Síbaris. This charming eatery serves up thin, authentic pizzas that are simply delightful. The tomato sauce strikes a perfect balance of lightness and flavor, while the cheese is just right—creating a satisfying bite every time. Their sangria adds a fruity twist to your meal, making it even more enjoyable.
Delicious, thin, authentic pizza. The tomato sauce was perfectly light and flavorful. The amount of cheese was just right. This hit the spot! The sangria was fruity and refreshing. The service was wonderful - very kind, polite, and welcoming. The chef cares about his food, that’s for sure. I highly recommend this place for a lovely atmosphere and the kind of pizza you can trust to be tasty.
Erica W — Google review
The pizza's are great, nothing wrong with those. But beware of the calamari a la romaro and the cannolini. The calamari were undercooked, the batter was still liquid inside. Not very tasteful to say the least. The cannolini for desert were at least 1 year old: the filling was dry and like shifted butter. The outside cookie was soft and leathery like. A shame to serve this to your clients. And you are served by a gentleman in a black jacket, not very admospheric...

We had some very nice pizza. From bacon to veggie. Everybody like it. We only had pizza's so cannot judge the other dishes. Staff and service was quick and friendly. Will definitely come back here.

Tasty pizza, the maxima was very good with pickled cucumber. Unfortunately, the margarita was burnt and my children didnt enjoy it. They where extremely busy, so quality can be affected but a pizziola should not let a burnt pizza into the pizza box.. I worked as a pizza chef myself and would remake the pizza and apologise for the extra wait.

An amazing experience. Came for lunch and did a bit of a tasting menu, let the kitchen decide, and everything was unreal! Had 7 courses, each one delicious and unique. A gorgeous family-run restaurant. Eating here was a highlight of both my visits to L'Escala, 5 years apart. As a semi-Swede I love that they offer Sweden-inspired dishes as well as delicious Mediterranean fare.

The owner is very nice and friendly, her origin is Swedish and the character of the dishes is also rather nordic, which gives an exclusive and excellent taste to it. It is definitely worth a visit! Miriam D — Google review
Nice location, but the food isn't very good, at least the vegetables. We had a bowl and a quinoa burger, and both were quite bland. The burger came without any sides, and we had to order the fries separately, but they were very nice. The service was good, but the concept was a bit confusing: one waiter took food orders, and another handled drinks. We wondered why we couldn't just order everything from one person. The drinks were great, and the prices were okay, but not cheap.

banging fish spot right on the port came recommended by a local winemaker. calamari to dream about great fish soup wonderful razor clams and a very decent organic cava to wash it all down! question mark over whether all the fish on the mixed plate were fresh but all in all a truly local delight :)

Fresh fish was not really fresh, it tasted like supermarket fresh fish or farm fish to the most. We complained about it but no response. Overall poor food and service

Casual usual spanish dinner overlooking the nice fishermans quay of the port of L'Escala. Much quieter than the city center dining area.
Olivier O — Google review
Friendly service, the seafood is great. Our kid got chicken fillet and fries. Too salty, especially for kids. The chicken was good tough. Our dishes existed of seamonk and gamba's. The seamonk was delicious, sturdy and tasty. The gamba's were a bit overcooked. The dish was also on the salty side of the moon. We got some bread on the side which was free of charge. I can recommend this place, just ask for less salt if you don't like it.

Abundant, quality fish & sea-food, but very expensive for Spain. Chipirones + parrillada de pescado (were both excellent) + 1 beer + 1 glass of wine (for 1 person) = 30€...The same quality (and better) can be found elsewhere for half the price. Usually very crowded too

Nice restaurant on the beach. We enjoyed the Paella and the Burrata salad, wine was cheap and very good. We later ordered Sangria de Cava, which was horrible and was left untouched, nobody asked us for a reason and we ended up paying for it because nobody spoke a word of English and it felt pointless to try to prove anything to anyone, which ruined the impressions of this place. P.S. We did go back one more time - Paella was as good if not better, Burrata salad was once again amazing and the service was in better English.

The food was fine, but the service was really terrible. First our friends were not allowed to go sit with us because they just wanted a drink, not food. They directly took our table away. The food was nice, but much to small for the prices. In the end, we couldn’t pay separately, even though we were four people who ate different meals. They forced one of us to pay for us all. As a repeat customers libing locally we knew this was a 'quirky' venue due to the attitude of the staff but the food was great. Sad to say this time the portion of fish was half the size of previously and the service even worse than usual. Rude, dismissive, unintelligible and unwelcoming if you are not French or Belgian (even though we're in Catalonia/Spain) we felt very unwelcome, it was almost laughable how rude they were - seemingly a father and some team? - and absolutely won't be back, and we shall tell our friends.
Jane T — Google review
Very bad, made a reservation with friends for 4, there were people sitting at our table when we arrived because the restaurant allowed them to have a drink until we arrived. it resulted in us waiting 10 min standing until they freed our table, we waited another 30 minutes before getting the menu, because the staff isn't organised. We asked for water and the restaurant told us they didn't have any left!! So we had to go buy our own water at the vending machine near by because they were not able to provide us water. When the food arrived (45minutes after we ordered), one of the dish wasn't the one we ordered, and the staff was extremely pissed off when we told them we didn't wanted a dish we didn't ordered. Ultimately, we almost got kicked out by the staff requesting us to leave our table to go pay because they were closing (not our fault we had to wait so long to eat), and while waiting another 10 mins to be able to pay since they asked every table to leave at the same time and we had to wait behind other clients, we got asked not to stand in the way and to leave if we had already payed (which again, we were waiting in line to pay). The food wasn’t even good, to conclude avoid!!

We had high hopes for this place but unfortunately it was not great. Firstly the food was plentiful and delicious, a big plus. However, the service was bad, long waiting times, dismissive attitude and bad communication. Half the menu options were not available . As for the dining room it was overly loud and gloomy. Nestled in a tranquil street just off the bustling seafront, Los Compadres is a charming family-run restaurant that offers an authentic taste of Spanish cuisine. Known for its fresh seafood and delightful tapas, this eatery serves up mouthwatering dishes like mussels, grilled squid, and their signature mixed seafood plate. The warm hospitality from the friendly owners creates a welcoming atmosphere where diners can enjoy quality meals at reasonable prices.
Amazing food. Friendly staff. Best mussels I've ever had! Everything tasted super fresh. We had a range of dishes and they were all great. We had two noisy children and the staff accommodated us and made us feel welcome. We'll be back for sure!

Lovely fish restaurant in a quiet road behind the seafront. Extremely fresh, well cooked fish and seafood. Absolutely delicious. Special mention for the outstanding mixed seafood plate but also the chipirones and the patates los compadres, which the owner told us are actually Patates d’Olot, and that her husbands parents gave them a new name when they started the restaurant in 1968 as people from outside the region didn’t know Olot! Highly recommended.

Highly Dissapointed!! We were given one side of tapas we didnt order, which were then put on the bill. Out of 7 people 2 of us were waiting for the main dish until the Rest of the group was already finished only to hear that the fish we ordered is sold out. It would be a nice gesture to take the wrongly served tapas dish off the bill After waiting for 2 main orders for over 20 minutes but the staff was really rude and disrespectful when we confronted them afterwards about our problems. We then ordered some else fish that was served with green beans. To be honest i have never eaten such horrible beans. Everything tasted like it was frozen and reheated in the microwave and the meat was cold when brought to our table. Fries were not salted, meat and fish not seasoned. We paid 8€ for the Tapas dish „Asparagus with Mayonaise“ which consisted of TWO cut in half pieces of canned asparagus and a side salad… We do not understand why this place has such good reviews considering the quality of the food.

Visited twice this trip, firstly for tapas and last night for mussels and grilled squid amongst other things. I'm learning Spanish and the lovely family staff are most appreciative and encouraging. This is a Spanish family restaurant and the clientele are almost all Spanish. It is only a couple of streets from the main tourist venues but could be a million miles. This is now a regular fixture for us, love it!

Great place to try tapas with sea food. Extremely good service, very kind, food of excellent quality. Ratio of price to quality much more above average. This restaurant is located at the smaller street, with less tourist traffic, so it is peaceful to eat. If I come back to the town for sure I will come back to this place as well.

Great staff. We followed her suggestions and do not regret it. The food was very good and the amount just right. Try the "sepia con albóndigas" and the mussels, both great. The rest was also very good. With service like this one enjoys spending time in the place. Will definitely be back soon.

Cheap and good "home cooked" style food. Nothing fancy but good quality. The mussels in particular were great (and you get loads). Dessert was a bit of a let down. Service was friendly and quick.

Kairos Bistró is a delightful gem that truly stands out for its exceptional tapas, making it a must-visit on your beach stroll. The friendly staff enhances the experience with their warm hospitality, ensuring you feel right at home as they guide you to the best terrace table where stunning beach views await.
This is fabulous restaurant which is run and staffed by the most amazing, lovely people. From the moment we arrived they couldn’t do enough for us. Including bringing a bowl of water out for the dog. The food was exquisite as well, we will definitely be returning here in the future. Everything we had was amazing, but one thing you shouldn’t miss out on are the truffles, they are to die for. Not that we went to any other restaurants in the area, but to us this felt like it had to be one of the best restaurants in this town. Not to be missed.
Pub R — Google review
The staff are lovely and the location is very nice, the food is not so great. Sardines in garlic and parsley were so overcooked they were dry and desiccated, and much too salty. Calamari tasted like it was straight from a freezer bag into the deep fat fryer. Patatas bravas were nice. Tomato bread was nice. Steak was fine. We complained about the sardines and it was taken off the bill.

Visited this place mid November. It was very crowded and loud so after a while we started losing the climate of the place. Then we waited for nearly an hour for our paella, and I assume we got it only because I've asked the waiter about it. And finally the food (both paella and starters) turned out to be really average. I recommend choosing some more local places bit further from the beach

My buddy and have been backpacking through Europe and we stopped here after visiting the Roman and Greek ruins and it had a beautiful view and great beer and food we had two appetizers, and two entrees and I had a dessert along with copious amount of beer and wine and we ended the night at around 65 but if you drink normally then you should get out around 40-50 euro. Great restaurant a street performer even played some Louis Armstrong towards the end of our dinner over all great food amazing view and incredible service. Would love to eat here again.

The best tapas I've had in a long while, and the tastiest on this stretch of beach. Please try the calamari, spinach and gorgonzola croquettes and the cod fritters, you won't be disappointed. The waiters and waitresses were also incredibly friendly and gave us the best table on the terrace with a beautiful view of the beach and sunset. They even popped a candle on the cheesecake (which was also delicious) and we all sang happy birthday to my sister after I told them we were out celebrating.

The small sepias tasted good but had sand in them. Also, the plate was rather small for the asking price. As to the chipirones, again, a small portion and very dry. Disappointing quality of the food compared to nearby places. Service was rather minimal. Lack of enthusiasm to serve customers. Finally, they only had the wine list in catalan. We wanted to like the place but our experience did not come any way near our expectations.
Yolanda B — Google review
Very disappointed in this restaurant. As soon as we came in, the waitresses were acting bothered and annoyed, like they didn’t want to work there. Regarding the pizzas, they use 1/4 mozzarella and 3/4 emmental (of what I understood) for their pizza, which means that the pizza essentially comes out burnt!! The first one was dark brown, which we sent back. The second one came back light brown. After tasting, we understood it was emmental as it was sweet (emmental burns in high temperatures but is cheaper than mozzarella!) We complained and got shouted at so badly by the boss! We explained that if it is the way to make pizza (as he was saying) and everyone likes it like that then he should put the ingredient emmental on the menu next to mozzarella and all others; that sent him in a rage. I suspect he understood that we knew he was doing that to make cheap pizzas! The bill came in half a second and we were made to feel extremely unwelcome! A.V.O.I.D (Photo is a simple margarita)

Great gluten free pizza and everything that's gluten free is marked on the menu. The dough was a little undercooked, but I assume this is because we arrived at their opening time so the pizza oven couldn't have been up to temperature yet so not a fault of the restaurant in my eyes!

We came here on a sunny day for an ice cream, but didn't like it. The ice cream I took was the "Blong Jhon". When we received it, the ice cream was almost completely molten away. This while my wife hers was really fresh. So there was probably something wrong with the timing. My ice cream didn't good either, in the end I just left some over because I couldn't anymore. My wife took the "Copa Crocant" which was good in taste, but not easy to eat. It was stacked rather high in a small bowl. We will not be coming back here for ice cream.

(Translated by Google) Seven of us came, and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. It took over an hour and 10 minutes for the first courses to arrive, and we weren't even served at the same time: the dishes arrived up to 15 minutes apart, which is unacceptable for a group meal. The quality of the food also left something to be desired: the mashed potatoes were cold, and the paella was more like a risotto, far from what you'd expect from such an iconic dish. The service was slow and disorganized, with no apologies or goodwill gestures. We won't be back and we don't recommend this place; there are much better options in L'Escala!

This lovingly family-run restaurant was our favorite culinary discovery during 10 days Costa Brava. The tasting menu for 39 euros exceeded all our expectations. Local spot with delicious fideua. They have their own parking lot and the ambience is homey/welcoming. My boyfriend and I came strictly for the fideua as his sister loves this place, and I highly recommend it. The portion is generous and they give copious amounts of garlic aioli on the side to mix in. It was a high quality meal and one that would be good for lunch or dinner.

I've been here four times over the last 10 years or so and it's always, and I mean always, great. If you like your food then this is a fantastic place to go. There are very few places like this in L'Escala. I see some reviews that complain about the prices. I went with my wife, and we had 2 evening menus, and a bottle of wine and it was 100. This is a starter, main, dessert and a glass of wine (plus the extra bottle we ordered). In England, it would be double. Highly recommended.

Staff were lovely and very friendly to me, my wife and our 1 year old. The snails for starters were delicious, galta for main was a bit average and small portion of mash. My wife’s chicken was good. Puddings were good. Wine was nice. My real problem was there is no kids menu, they charged us €15 for canelones and we asked for some fruit for desert (for our kid), they charged us €5.5 for a peach we had to cut ourselves. Pretty outrageous pricing!!

Fresh anchovies excellent and brought still sizzling in the pan to the table. Sardines also fresh and fried. One skate wing in caramelised a balsamic glaze was slim pickings. Each of these dishes was accompanied by the same smidgen of salad and purée potatoes. One desert, fruit del Bosque in yoghurt/cream was indifferent Total without wine €50 – not a great experience.

(Translated by Google) The setting is magnificent, the waiters friendly, but you feel quite watched. As soon as a drink is finished, for example, someone comes to take it away from you, which is quite annoying; it's one of the only flaws we have to point out. We ate as a group of 6. The children had carbonara and Bolognese pasta, which they quite liked. The portions are generous; they couldn't finish them. A small flaw: very little bacon in the carbonara. We had a pizza (which is made on bread), it was excellent, and also a potato omelet sandwich, a treat. For 6 (5 courses because we had a little one who ate from our plates), we paid 90.50 euros, including drinks. We recommend! Fantastic location, just a couple blocks from the water! Great place for a night or two, but be prepared for just a place to stay and rest for the night. Check in was easy, the owner is incredibly friendly (and patient for those learning their Spanish)! This place gets an extra star because of her- she made this experience extra special for us. Parking is a bit tricky- the owner will gladly help if you get confused like we did (and a few other guests). I'm not sure if we ever really figured it out but we had to pay for parking (1 euro) every morning before 8am, then place the ticket receipt on our dash. The machine was finicky and again, not sure if I really figured it out but we didnt get in trouble for the two days we parked there. We were super pleased to see an elevator (we've been in a few places with stairs only), and enjoyed our clean and air conditioned(!!) room. We regret not having enough time to eat at the restaurant- we will have to come back!!

Fawlty Towers @ l’Escala, we were greeted by masked Manuel, it took 10 minutes to explain we hadn’t reserved a room but a table for 5. It all went downhill from there. The ordering process was chaotic, we had to scavenge for cutlery on other tables between dishes. Our main dish was black rice with cuttlefish and lobster; the lobster was not cut lengthwise but hacked into pieces with all the good pieces in one plate and the rest in the other, we never found out where the tail had gone...The bill was wrong and had to be rectified 3 times. 2 stars instead of one because we had a good laugh.

Common courtesy is lacking here. This is the restaurant of a hotel in which many of the locals seem to eat. It is located behind the town's Catholic church about six blocks from the ocean. They have a second restaurant under the same name, a few block away facing the ocean, which I read in their website that it is run by their two sons. We visited this town because my 3x great grandfather was born & baptized here in the early 1800s as well as other ancestors generations before him. Given that we were visiting during the second half of November the town was virtually empty of tourists. The 4 or 5 tables that were occupied were local people. We noticed from the very beginning that our reception was cold and the treatment remained so until we paid and left. There were 4 people serving, a 60ish couple and possibly their two 40ish daughters. At various times the older lady and one of the younger women came by to sit us, take our order and serve us. They were very dry and did not make eye contact. It was as if they did not really want us there. We speak both English and Spanish so language was not a problem. The menu was in Catalan, but we could understand it enough to order. We had fish soup followed by seafood paella, red wine and crema catalana. The food was very good. They were friendly only to what seemed to be locals at the other four tables. In order to pay one had to go to the register. The older lady was abrupt in handling the processing of my payment. Unlike every other single place that we have ever paid in Spain, the lady did not allow me to respond to the questions on the credit card gadget, namely, to confirm the total amount, select currency as Euros or U.S. dollars, and finalize the transaction by acceptance. She did it all herself as if I had no choice in the matter. We were never asked if the food was good or anything else. Not even a thank you. The bottom line, although the food was good, If you are an American, I would not eat here unless you like to be poorly treated. I can say that the other catalans treated us very courteously in every other place we visited during our 12 day vacation.

A very friendly family hotel, now updated to The New Roser, a lovely central place to stay, very good quality at a reasonable price. Very good for the price, extremely friendly staff, clean and comfortable, close to the centre but not noisy

Way too expensive -- -- The internet stopped working after a few hours. The shower was extremely hot for a few second, then lukewarm, then extremely hot again, .... you get the picture. When we arrived, the lady at the front desc tried to rip us off. The nearby churchbells are very loud and ring every quarter of an hour. The cleaning lady came into our room after we told her not to. The towels were stained. Nearby parkingspace is for maximum 3 hours and costs 3,70 for three hours. + + Located close to the beach and restaurants

Great bang for the buck. The place and rooms are old and on the small side, yes, but clean and well maintained, and with all the basic amenities you'll need. Great staff and pretty good restaurant onsite.

They were very accommodating to our large, loud group of 20 plus cyclists who were hungry and very thirsty! Good home cooking at a very reasonable price!

Red Pepper is a delightful gem that boasts stunning seaside views and an inviting atmosphere. The friendly staff and owners create a warm environment, making every visit feel special. Diners rave about the diverse menu, which includes crispy prawns, Roman squid, and flavorful tapas like patatas bravas and calamari. Main courses such as risottos, chicken burgers, and seafood paella are consistently praised for their outstanding taste.
Lovely place, a front view to the seaside, and even better food. Very friendly staff and owners. We have ordered multiple food from the menu as it was 8 of us, and none of us were disappointed. We had crispy prawns, Roman squid, hummus, and peppers for starters all tasted lovely. For main, we had risottos, chicken burgers, and salmon, and they all were outstanding. Thank you.

Had some tapas which were good, with some very good cocktails. Amazing setting right on the beach. Staff is super friendly!

We've eaten here a few times now. First time, was mainly due to the great location. But the service was so welcoming and friendly and the food delicious we keep coming back whenever we visit L'Escala. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

Excellent!! Cava de sangria to drink. Then tapas - patas bravas, calamari, prawns and Camembert. All fantastic! The service was excellent too, all staff really friendly. We’ll be back.

We ate at quite a few of the restaurants by the beach and this was the best meal we had in L’Escala. Super friendly staff, anchovies were delicious, lovely seafood paella with meaty prawns, I think the cheesecake was the best dessert I’ve ever had!

I tried the vegan options, like the hummus, pan con tomate, fries, they were acceptable. The staff was really friendly!

Restaurant El Xiringuito is a delightful dining spot that truly stands out for its exceptional value and quality. The friendly staff creates a welcoming atmosphere, making every visit enjoyable. Guests rave about the delicious food, particularly the monkfish with its flavorful sauce and the outstanding paella. The menu of the day offers a fantastic selection, ensuring there's something for everyone to savor. Pair your meal with a local white wine like Rueder for an even more memorable experience.
Really good value for money, the quality was amazing and we don't understand how the food we had cost so little. Really recommend the monkfish, it's sauce was really tasty.

Drinks and food arrived surprisingly fast, however the food was bland. I myself ordered a spaghetti bolognese starter which was, thankfully, delicious. Next I ordered grilled chicken, and immediately regretted my choice; the meat was grilled perfectly, but the portion was too big, so I ended up eating only 2/3 of the meat. The worst part is that my parents ordered a paella that had a similar look to the photo attached to this review, and tasted awful according to them. And to top it off, the waitress walked around sloppier than even the worst of Macdonald's employees. 3 out of 5 stars for my experience, 0 out of 5 stars for my parents' experience P.S. we ended up paying ~70€ for the food and drinks, while a much better restaurant would just cost you around 10€ more.

At first I didn't really believe the bad critics. But now I have tried it. I feel obligated to write a review. The people are nice that is for sure. Normally I don't judge a book on the cover. So we arrive there as the first guests. Omen 1. And for Spanish standards it was early. It was about 19:30. But there were other restaurants with plenty of guests. Anyway our first course was grilled gamba's. They were kinda small. I prefer bigger ones and only a couple instead of a bunch of small ones. They were ok. Then it started. Omen 2. If you eat prawns or whatsoever with your hands it is normal that you get wett napkins. In this case we get those pre packaged. That is ok, but they were all dried out! All 4 of them for the two of us. So I kindly told the owner about it. So I get a normall napkin, awesome. So I washed my hands in the restroom, that is ok. For our second course we ordered paelja, oh my dear lord of good food. Do you excist! If he excists, he would have torched the place with his trident or some kind of mjolnir. Never mind wrong gods. I think these guys would have blasted the restaurant for me. Back to the paelja. Of course there are plenty of variants of paelja. This was the not eatable one! The mussels were; honey I shrunk the kids! You can tell, the shells were big, but the mussel was micro. The lobster was totally overcooked. I mean, mussels should be 30% smaller then their shells, juicy and tasty and lobster should have a bite and not dry and falling apart. In short it was like the paelja was treated with napalm! Ok honest, the lemon was fresh. So I accepted to pay for the drinks and the first course. On the bill there was an extra. The bread we got. I thought it came with the course. My bad, next time I will ask if it is complemental The bread was not expensive, but still. When we came out off the restaurant I almost wanted to stop another couple who just came in. The poor souls. We payed € 32 for an ok shrimp starter € 28, a bottle of water € 2,50 and the bread € 1,50. And still hungry. Dear people be warned! Judge a book on the cover! So I really wonder were the good reviews come from. I think those people were lucky and did get a good cook. In our case, we had a can't cook, won't cook kind.

Unassuming eatery with wide selection of home cooking dishes.daily menu @€14.00 inclusive of local wine and bottled water is a bonus. pleasant staff and good service..the owner/cook comes around the tables asking guests if all is OK..on the down side...the free open buffet as a starter very unimaginative and mostly consists of a variety of pickles and raw onions +hard boiled eggs...

Excellent menu of the day, good choice of meals

The prices are a "tourist trap" specially in the Paella. The prices are written for 1 person but you need to order doble. Even when I explicit asked about the prices before, they charged me for 2.
