Where to eat: the 50 best restaurants in Tlaxcala

Stopped here for brunch, had some omlettes with white wine which were excellent. We chose to sit on the rooftop terrace that overlooks the central square and the Church of San Jose. Views are magnificent. As far as the service, it was a bit slow but i imagine the staff has to truck up and down the stairs from the terrace to the kitchen to pick up orders. I would come back.

A nice place... good atmosphere. Two main criticisms. We ordered tapas and it was served with the main meal instead of the way tapas should be as an appetizer. Also the steaks were quite overdone. Medium rare was medium well plus and medium well was overcooked and dry.

So you all will know the seriousness of my warning, I shall say this in English: The terrace is just for tipsy couples to take selfies. They didn’t fire up the elevator for us, we scaled a very steep, narrow flight of stairs to access this disappointing seating. You can’t see the view while seated. There are clouds of mosquitoes. There is loud disco music blaring from a cheap portable stereo, not conducive to romantic conversation. They have a much-touted wine cellar but instead of a wine list the server brought 2 overpriced wines from western Mexico. We chose one, at an insanely inflated price, because we were not in the mood to argue. A few minutes into the bottle the server returned to say she misquoted the price, it’s really more than discussed. We were not in the mood to haggle and said yeah, okay. Of course she didn’t bring us any complimentary food or drink or dessert to make up for this little oversight, or to reward us for being good sports about it. She said they didn’t have the hummus ciabatta, so I ordered another ciabatta, it was bland and featured boiled frozen shrimp. My date ordered a beef medallion plato fuerte and reported that it tasted like a school lunch cutlet. At the end the horrible server asked for her tip in cash. It was a depressing experience and it hit my card at 165 USD. Plus the cash tip. Great celebration, these guys ruined our Saturday night date, and charged us enough for 3 dinners. We shared a scanty salad with over sweet dressing, the beef dish, the ciabatta and the one wine. No cocktails or appetizer. Nearly 200 United States Dollars, almost 4 mil pesos.

Nice restaurant and bar, though please present a wine list cause your regular menu does not have any wines. Overall good service.

The best thing is the atmosphere you can get from the view or the building. The architecture is very nice and the service is very friendly. They have a good selection of wines but i think the food needs improvement. Not accesible for wheelchairs, they accept debit and credit and there is not parking on the premises.

Came in for breakfast, what a wonderful find. Clean, beautiful colonial yet modern setting, offers a breakfast menu as good as Vancouver or New York. Innovative cuisine, great service, delicious coffee and beverages. Is a tad higher price than the usual Zocalo fare, but worth every penny. We will definitely return for lunch and/or dinner.

The tasting menu of 5 pulques was a good idea. The menu at first appears to have nothing for vegetarians but then we found quesadillas with hongos, setas, huitlacoche and they made sphagetti as vegetarian and there was potato fries. The dessert was good too. Attentive service, good portion size, prices were moderate.

This place is a little restaurant outside Mexico City in a state called Tlaxcala. It's the first time I ever had Pulque, which is a fermented cactus drink. I recommend getting a sample of all the flavors. My favorites were cranberry & nuez (nuts)..but i drank them all😉

If you are here you can try the pulque curado flavor "Amor imposible" Orange milk and pulque are a combination that you are going to remember!!!!

Lucero and Anna gave a good service, always attentive and kind. I ordered the Salmon and was a bit dry and ordered a drink and they forgot it. Paella was ok. But overall good.

I loved the decoration and structure; however, the food (steak)was not the best; the soup and bread were really good. The service was not that great. The drinks were very good though. Not only is Val'Quirico magical, but the food is so delicious. We chose Spaniard food and we're so happy we did. Leonardo was very welcoming and helpful. We had the grilled octopus, Buyovesa (crustacean soup), and the trio dessert with coffee Americano. Everything was so delicious but what stood out the most to me was the dessert and coffee.

We walked to each of the restaurants on the plaza and settled on Meson de Los Reyes. An absolute delicacy and the service is splendid. Leonardo was friendly and kind. We had the seafood soup, grilled Octopus and grilled veggies. My fiancé and I shared the plates and the food was plenty.

They didnt had what i wanted from the menú the service is slow and they cant substitute some item on the dishes if you are alergic to shellfish.

A restaurant which definitely needs to be renovated! It seems that the interior design wasn't changed for years! The location is perfect, but it would be better if they put some tables outside, because there's quite dark inside, especially on the basement floor. The service was polite and quick. The food tasted ok, quite regular. Don't expect much from it. They also have buffet options at the weekends at 198 $, which is elevated to my opinion for regular meals. Better make an order a la carta.

I visited this place in july 2021, the attendants try to do their job but the service is slow, regarding to the dishes the taste is not good the chilaquiles was a little burned, the meat was a little chewy. If you are in a hurry and no have high expectations regarding the food you want to have you can visit this place but if is not your case I suggest to find other place.

We visited the restaurant on May 19th 2024 at around 1220hrs without a reservation, they sat us down without any issue. It was not busy, just four tables were being waited on with what it seem 3 waiters. After 5 minutes of them walking by us, one said hello and gave us the silverware. Then we waited 15 minutes exactly without any of the waiters stopping by to offer us the menu or just to see if we were taken cared off. So we got up and left. The hostes sat us down in the terrace facing a waterfall with a beautiful view, it was just two of us and again, the restaurant was not busy at all. As we were walking out we noticed the another family that they sat inside at the same time as us, they were still waiting for service. We mentioned to a waiters on our way out about no one approaching our table and he said "oh ok" and left somewhere as if he was going to do something about it... but all the waiters were standing chatting and having a good time with their conversation. Unfortunately the food smell great but I will not recommend this catastrophe of a so called service. Too bad since the place is beautiful. Such a waste.

A Hidden Gem of Relaxation! Don't let the small size fool you—this boutique spa has a really peaceful view with a waterfall, although it was a bit gray from the recent rains not like in the IG photos. The staff is incredibly attentive, making sure you feel completely spoiled and well-cared for. While the drinks menu isn't wide, the meals were surprisingly good, and every bite felt like a special treat.

My family and I went to this place to have our breakfast there. It has a small restaurant with a wonderful view and a waterfall. But for me the most important thing was their food. To be honest, I was disappointed because for such a price they serve a small quantity of food. For example, I ordered the dish - huevos en cazuela. It consisted of two eggs cooked with some minced meat in a small pan with no salsa or any spices, and it was followed with some sour cream. It also included 1 cup of coffee (150ml) and half of a glass of orange juice. That's it! No fruits or even side salad! I missed some fiber at least! And it cost 185$! I believe that the price is elevated! Yes, the atmosphere around you is great, but for a person who wants to enjoy new flavours and is hungry it doesn't matter.

As an Australian visiting Mexico, I can honestly say that Xolchuca delivered one of the best meals I’ve had during my entire trip. The quality of the food was absolutely outstanding—fresh, full of flavour, and clearly made with a lot of care and attention to detail. The service was exceptional—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The staff made us feel right at home and helped us navigate the menu with great recommendations. If you’re visiting Tlaxcala, don’t miss Xolchuca.

Excellent food and drinks. We started with the recommended house cocktail, a Yellow Lady, a variation of White Lady - absolutely superb. The food we had was equally good, especially the heirloom tomato salad and the Gnocci. Attentive service, nice ambience and pretty tableware as well. If you‘re in Tlaxcala, go eat there! Especially if you love meat, it‘s actually a great grill place.

The food was delicious and the service was top notch. We shared a rib eye with masked potatoes, asparagus, and guacame and had calamari salad to start. Definitely a great meal!

The place itself is nice, with attentive staff and ok pizza made in an outside charcoal oven. The food takes a while to arrive, but in the meantime you can enjoy a beverage. It seems to me that they try to do something edgy but kind of fail at it. But more than anything I really did not appreciate their policy on drinks: wwe got there when the place was empty and they served us without issue but then, a couple of people showed up and they decided no more drinks were allowed. I totally understand, but I think this should be clearly stated somewhere so you don't waste your time going there in case.you want 3 beers instead of two. I think that given this limitation, there are better places around with better food and service.
