Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant Stucki - Tanja Grandits offers a refined yet relaxed dining experience in the Bruderholz neighborhood. Chef Tanja Grandits presents her unique 'aroma kitchen' style, featuring imaginative dishes with contrasting flavors and textures, such as wasabi mousse and green tea guacamole. Guests can enjoy the nine-course 'Aroma Menu' or opt for the more affordable lunchtime menus.
The culinary journey that was the nine course menu was pure bliss. Each dish presented was a masterpiece, both visually stunning and bursting with exquisite flavors. Chef Tanja Grandits's innovative approach to cuisine shines through in every bite, showcasing a harmonious blend of textures and tastes. The service was impeccable, with a knowledgeable and attentive staff who guided me through the menu with expertise and warmth. The attention to detail and genuine passion for hospitality were evident throughout the entire meal, making me feel truly valued as a guest. The ambiance of the restaurant was equally impressive, with a refined yet welcoming atmosphere. It is a true gem in Basel's culinary scene, and I cannot recommend it highly enough for anyone seeking an extraordinary dining experience. I left Stucki feeling not only satisfied but also inspired by the culinary artistry and hospitality displayed by Chef Tanja and her team.

To be honest i was a little disappointed. First of all the good points. -if you ask questions they are dutifully answered and even though they tried to accommodate your requests as good as possible. -the food was mostly very very good. A few dishes were not fitting into the concept somehow but overall superb quality of cooking -when mentioned we had some books to sign we were even shown the patisserie. -the armosphere was amazing. The things which didn’t go so well: -the wine pairing was completely out of synch with dinner. They poured the next wine before we even finished the last one. -the amouse bouche was somehow in a weird order and the one we tried first was overwhelming every taste. -the first starter was absolutely not fitting. -the apero was extraordinary expensive. This is something which bothers me generally. They never tell you how much an apero will cost even though it is important and 35 per glass is outrageous if you only get it on the bill. -we paid 1200 chf for two people and for that it wasn’t good enough to be honest. Most expensive star experience so far and i think other ones were much better.

We had lunch here and it was a feast. Every dish was very pretty yet never exaggerated. No artificial show elements. It is all about taste and textures. The cutlery and plating are even downright simple, nothing special, but you don‘t eat out to see knives and forks. Tanja greeted us at our table which was very nice. The atmosphere is pleasant, no music! Most guests seem to be locals having a regular lunch on a weekday, apparently the neighborhood is rich.
Hans M — Google review
Dining at Tanja Grandits was a true honour and memorable experience. We were lucky to find a table on the Jul 31st, the evening before Swiss National Day. We were especially delighted that the chef herself came out to serve us the first dish — a wonderful personal touch. Each course was exquisite, with unique flavours highlighted by creative use of herbs and spices. The portions were decent and satisfying, and the service throughout was warm, friendly, and attentive. A fantastic dining experience all around. A restaurant which I would love to come back again.
Clariss C — Google review
Indulging in the culinary experience at Tanja Grandits was an absolute delight! The food was truly exceptional, showcasing flavors that took my taste buds on an unforgettable journey. However, what elevated the entire experience was the impeccable wine pairing suggested by the knowledgeable sommelier. Each selection beautifully complemented the dishes and offered a global tour of flavors, making every sip an adventure. Without a doubt, investing in the wine pairing was worth every penny for the added dimension it brought to an already outstanding dining experience.
Michael B — Google review
In the 9 course meal, I would be surprised if at least 3 did not leave you utterly impressed. However, at the level of perfection that you expect from a restaurant that has 2 Michelin stars and at the price point they operate any detail less than perfect should be noted. These include: 1. The butter temperature when initially served was a few degrees too cold. Making it hard to spread. It reached ideal temperature around 90 minutes after it was first served. 2. The bill took too long to be brought after the dinner was complete. Over 20 minutes waiting without a clear way to request it again since our table was not in direct line of sight to waiters after their service was complete. 3. The meat dish towards the end was not as impressive as some of the earlier dishes. Specifically, the meat did not have the “cuts like butter” tenderness one comes to expect at this level of experience. All that being said, it is worth the experience and the level of organization and precision throughout are noteworthy.
Paulo — Google review
The food was excellent, the service was excellent, and the ambience had a quiet elegance without being too stuffy. It was a wonderful place to celebrate my birthday. Sending my warmest thanks to your lovely team for making my birthday special. They were gluten-free friendly.
Valerie R — Google review
I read some time ago, when eating at a 2 Michelin Star restaurant, you should have a continuous Oh Wow experience! A restaurant such as the Stucki, that also has 19 Gault Millau points should definitively give you that experience. Unfortunately we did not :-(. We were a party of 6. It started all good, the first few courses, of the 9 course dinner, were nice, perfectly made and presented. But then, it started to go downhill. The service was mediocre, the dishes lacked TLC (tender loving care). The meat dish was disappointing, rather tough and chewy, not what one expects in this price class. The cheese dish in the end was another utter disappointment. The cheese must have just come out the fridge, it was cold and hard, reminded me of a Migros Budget cheese!! The service, because of the many different servers, was a bit unorganized. At times it felt too busy around us, without anything happening. Last but not least, when dining in such a supposed class restaurant, one would expect, that somebody from the kitchen is coming out to the table to inquire how the guests are doing. But, no such thing happened. When asking where the Chef was, we were told Ms. Grandits was sick. The next morning we read in a local newspaper, she was attending the opening of a new local store!!!! Really??? Tell the truth!! didn’t already our parents told us that?? All in all, never again, in this price class I expect perfection

Italian restaurant
Tucked away in the charming city of Basel, Acqua is a unique dining experience that beautifully marries industrial history with Italian culinary delights. Once a waterworks facility, this enchanting venue has transformed into a romantic oasis adorned with flowers and offering an inviting atmosphere. Guests can indulge in authentic Italian dishes prepared in an open kitchen, where the essence of "Italianità" comes alive through every bite.
A unique place for its setting, but truly beautiful. We ate with other people. The service was excellent. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and even speaks Italian. I personally had the paccheri with eggplant. The pasta was very good, and the eggplant was cooked perfectly. Other friends had the sea bass baked in foil with baked potatoes. Highly recommended.

Nice restaurant close the the station with outside seating away from cars. The food was Italian with a twist. The starter (sweetbread) came with some tough brown crackers which didn’t taste very nice and were a bit tough. The octopus for the main was nice but the portion of rice was a bit missing flavour. Service was friendly, atmosphere was relaxed
Sarah L — Google review
We had a wonderful experience at Acqua in Basel. The place is stunning – an old water pumping station turned into a stylish industrial-chic restaurant with a lovely terrace. Perfect atmosphere for both a relaxed dinner and a special occasion. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the Italian-inspired dishes were beautifully presented with fresh, high-quality ingredients. We especially enjoyed the pasta and seafood options. The only small downside is that it can get a bit noisy when it’s busy, and sometimes service takes a little longer. Overall, a great spot in Basel that I would definitely recommend!
DROMSON I — Google review
Amazing food, very friendly and smiley stuff, speaking italian for fun with us and I loved it. But the food was amazing. Oh, I already said that 😉 interesting interior and lovely lovely garden, hope that life brings me back here!

Amazing service, friendly, good recommendations, always checking if we needed anything. Octopus antipasto was amazing, the sea bass main dish was food but lack a bit of more flavour. It was also very small.
Javier S — Google review
The food was very good. The service was quite good except that they spilled the drink they were bringing me on my shirt and chair. The atmosphere is nice, a bit unique but nothing that adds a lot of the experience.
Craig T — Google review
I visited this wonderful place last year. I recommend coming in the dusk/evening as the place is beautifully set out and atmospherically lit. The food was fantastic; I had scallops that were cooked to perfection, then rabbit, which was melt in the mouth. I can't recall the wine we selected but it was excellent. If anything, it's a little bit pricey, but it's a wonderful place to go for a romantic meal or special occasion.

We came here on our last night in Basel for our anniversary. Really great atmosphere, they sat us next to the fireplace (very romantic). The staff were great , food awesome! We had a great night that we will not soon forget! Thanks Acqua

Nomad Design & Lifestyle Hotel Basel is a trendy 4-star property located in the Vorstadte district of Basel. The hotel offers stylish quarters, a cool restaurant, and a bar. It's within walking distance of cultural attractions like Basler Munster and Fine Arts Museum Basel. The hotel features 59 rooms with garden views, as well as amenities such as free loaner bikes and storage for belongings.
Very well located, clean, convenient, quiet apartment hotel that is reasonably priced. Close to public transportation, Schoenberg, grocery store, KaDeWe and many other stores. My one bedroom apartment with a balcony was spacious and well appointed. Despite no front desk the staff was very attentive to solving a problem I had when I was there. Also, a washer and dryer is available for ultimate convenience.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. Everything was very nice — the place was beautiful and spotless, and the room was fresh and comfortable. The breakfast was incredible, and the staff was always kind and helpful. We had a small issue during our stay, but the manager stepped in and helped us solve it quickly, for which we are truly grateful. Overall, a great experience and we’d definitely recommend it!

Clean, beautiful design hotel. Excellent service. Clean modern gym, you can reserve sauna for private use. Breakfast is delicious. Location excellent, and my favorite plus was that every floor has their own beverage station with still or sparkling water from a tap, and espresso maker and tea with fresh fruit 24hrs a day

Stayed in Basel a few times...this is one of the nicest hotels I have used. Very friendly team...modern vibe. Lovely rooms, good breakfast and handy location....tram stop just around the corner. Would recommend and will be heading back for my next trip to Basel.

Great hotel, great design and good service. Room very comfortable with a super king bed, quality linens and ultra quiet. However the bed is very soft and only two pillows are provided. The hotel has a restaurant/bar, co working space, gym and sauna. Love the design and concept. Excellent location.

Perfect place to stay in Basel! Nice hotel, perfect location and super friendly staff. The breakfast buffet offers everything you"ll need to have a solid start into the day and beyond! Last but not least: The parking indoor is very convenient in case you travel by car! You wont use it for your time in Basel since the hotel provides you the Basel card with free public transportation.

"Stillness & Style at Nomad Hotel" I didn’t stay at the hotel, but I had the chance to do a creative shoot at Nomad. The space is stunning — modern, calm, and full of character. The team was warm, professional, and open to sharing the spirit of the place. Sharing a short video from the session to offer a glimpse into the atmosphere. If you’re looking for a place that blends design, soul, and serenity — Nomad might be worth a visit.

We stayed at NOMAD over the weekend. It has been a great experience. The room was very generous, stylish mainly concrete and warm wood. We loved the impressive high ceilings and accordingly doors, the very big shower and the minimalistic design of the furniture. Comfortable bed, natural linen, and ecological attention were also a plus point. So as the caffe, tea and water facilities at the rooms floor. Very nice and cosy library..don't miss it ! Very good and various breakfast. A young ,stylish cosy and welcoming hotel . Will come back for sure

Nestled in a stylish, riverside hotel, Brasserie Les Trois Rois offers a decadent experience with classic Swiss and French dishes served alongside an impressive selection of beer and wine. Housed in a grand 19th-century building overlooking the Rhine, this brasserie has been frequented by politicians and royalty for over a century. The individually designed rooms exude Neo-classical charm while offering modern amenities.
Right on the Rhine River this is my favorite French restaurant in Basel. It is definitely formal and a bit expensive but not expensive compared to restaurants in other larger cities like NYC or Paris or Michelin starred prefix menus. I feel that it is totally worth it especially if you’re a tourist and really want to soak in some of the best sites of the city. The restaurant has a very romantic vibe so it would be great for a date, dinner with friends or family, or something more social versus a business location. Our server was extremely polite and all around there was top-notch five star service. Everything that we ordered came out pretty fast and to say that they were very attentive would be an understatement. I started off my meal with a really nice glass of Bordeaux and it really got my hunger going for what was ahead. For my starter I chose the Saumon Marine which is basically a Salmon Crudo and I thought it was great. It was light and refreshing and woke up my taste buds for my entrée, which was the Sole Meunière. I’ve had this dish many times in my life at many different locations and this was one of the better ones I’ve had in a long time. It was made perfectly and the flavors lasted throughout the rest of the night. I would highly recommend ordering it and I also would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. It was one of our more memorable moments of our time in Basel.
Zan L — Google review
My husband and I celebrated a wedding anniversary at The Brasserie. It was a perfect evening; we thoroughly enjoyed the upscale ambience, the view of the beautiful Rhine, the personable service and of course the exquisite food and drinks. We would like to express our gratitude to Mr David and Mr Hervé: they both made our time at the restaurant extra special with their warm humour and sincere friendliness. The entire team signed a hand-written card for our anniversary - a memory we will cherish forever. Thank you all so much! ❤️ We think you are world-class and we can’t wait to be back.
Ekaterina — Google review
We visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and it was such a wonderful experience. The flavors were unique, the service was outstanding, and the recommendations were spot on. They truly made us feel special with their surprises. A big thank you to Alisa for her warm hospitality and friendly conversation!

Outstanding food, great service - everything is smooth and perfectly tied together. Any special request is granted as if it were normal. Location is great, overlooking the river

Brasserie Les Trois Rois – Basel, Switzerland An unforgettable dining experience in the heart of Basel. I enjoyed a candlelit dinner at the Brasserie and it was flawless from start to finish. The ambiance strikes that rare balance between elegance and warmth — perfect for both private evenings and hosted client dinners. The menu was beautifully curated, rooted in Swiss and French tradition, with every dish plated like art and full of flavor. Service was attentive even on a very busy night, and you could feel the team’s commitment to creating a memorable experience for every guest. If you’re in Basel and want to experience timeless European dining with impeccable hospitality, the Brasserie Les Trois Rois is a must. - Michelle

Wow, 5 stars for food, ambiance, and service. Each dish was so well executed. I had the turbot with risotto; the fish was perfectly tender, and I loved the tangy sauce that tied the risotto together. The salad was also excellent- so fresh, with crunchy, flavorful bits on top and just the right amount of dressing. And I love that they wheel out their dessert offerings so you can point and choose, like a dim sum cart ha! :)

We visit Basel once a year from Italy and each year we always have dinner here. It is always a highlight of our trip. Truly one of the best dining experiences from the time you arrive until the time you leave. Mr. Mahler, the restaurant manager sets a wonderful tone for the experience with his passion for providing an amazing, memorable experience. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Daniele. He gladly accommodated our request to sit at a table of our waiter, Francesco. Francesco is the epitome of excellence. His passion for providing an exceptional experience is only surpassed by his knowledge and kind, warm demeanor. We look forward to seeing him each time, a wonderful man. Bravo Francesco. The meal itself, is always exceptional. The menu provides both imaginative and traditional French and Swiss cuisine. The quality of the elements and wonderful flavors always the best. The atmosphere, overlooking the Rhine with candlelit tables and warm decor ties it all together, in a truly memorable experience. Thank you and see you next year!

Brasserie, Bar und Event Volkshaus Basel is a historic building dating back to the 14th century that has been transformed into a popular cultural and dining destination. The venue underwent a major refurbishment by renowned local architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron, resulting in an eclectic mix of furnishings and modern design elements. The bar offers a diverse menu featuring high-quality Swiss, French, and Spanish wines, beer from a nearby microbrewery, and tapas snacks.
We stayed an entire week for business at the hotel. It was a very busy week because the Eurovision Song Contest had landed in town. Staff created a home away from home. Very centrally located, with a nice courtyard and a great restaurant.

Quite good service initially but food a big let down. Steak (frites) was so tough as to be inedible. Waiter who cleared away plates didn’t enquire how our meals were but was happy to ask if to wanted to add a tip. Another colleague started to set up the breakfast tables beside us not halfway through our meal (20.15 reservation)
Drum M — Google review
My friend and I stayed here - we found the studio room to feel spacious and modern. I particularly loved the dark green colour scheme throughout the hotel. The shower and toilet were separate, and I liked the concept of drawing curtains around the bathroom area after stepping out of the shower for privacy. The hotel is located very conveniently near the historic Mittlere Brücke (bridge) and the Claraplatz tram station, where the No.8 tram can take you to Basel's main train station (e.g. to then get to the airport) and also into Germany, Weil am Rhein! Coop and Migros are also nearby for food shopping. Each floor has a water, tea, and fruit station, which was great. The downside was our room didn't have a mini fridge, so we weren't able to keep any drinks or food that required refrigeration. Additionally, the table in our room also only had one chair (and a lower reclining chair in the corner) so we weren't able to sit at the table together.
Joyce T — Google review
We were at the bar. The cocktails were delicious and service friendly but the loaded fries were terrible. Cheep truffle aroma and congealed Parmesan on top of what would have been decent fries.
The W — Google review
Went there for a business dinner and apero. It was a lovely setting with very good food and service. It is well located and 1 min walk from the tram. I am not sure about the price but I assume on the high end of a Swiss restaurant

We stopped for dinner in their beautiful courtyard in the evening. We were seated quickly and service was friendly and efficient. The food was amazing. We all had steak frites. It certainly isn't cheap but then I guess it is in Switzerland!

The staff were exceptionally friendly and professional, but the food itself was fairly mediocre and felt overpriced for the quality.

Fine dining restaurant
Haute French restaurant
Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl is an elegant and refined riverside restaurant located in the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois, offering innovative French cuisine. The restaurant prides itself on exceptional service and sourcing the finest ingredients available on the market. With a maximum capacity of 30 guests, the dining experience is set in a beautiful space adorned with striking chandeliers and high ceilings.
Great food, experience and service from all the staff in a beautiful setting. This is up there with the very best Michelin starred restaurants we’ve had the pleasure to dine at. Each dish was unique and flavourful, the perfect portion size that leaves you waiting in anticipation for the next course. Thanks to all you all for an experience never to be forgotten.
Sergio ( — Google review
If I had to pick one word to describe Cheval Blanc, it would be impeccable. From the greeting as we arrived a bit early to the flawless dining experience and finally, the unexpected, super enjoyable after dinner drinks and cigar bar, this dining experience was unrivaled. Our group of 4 came to Basel for one night and were fortunate enough to score a lunch reservation Friday, May 9th. From the moment we stepped into the stunning hotel and absolutely beautiful restaurant we knew our experience would be memorable. As we arrived early, we were greeted immediately and escorted to the bar area right outside the main restaurant. It was almost as if they expected us early. We drank some champagne before entering the main restaurant experience right on time. The dining room was tastefully decorated and the subtle touches (i.e. candles) made the experience special. The setting along the Rhine River was just one more Iconic element. The dining room was full and at the same time entirely intimate. We knew there were other guests in the room with us, but never really felt or heard their presence. To say the food was amazing is to sell it short. When you dine at an establishment like Cheval Blanc, you expect the food to be exceptional. The food on this day was more than up to the task. Two of us were grateful that the chef allowed us to substitute for our main protein course. The presentation was amazing with each course seemingly looking and tasting better than the previous one. I will post a few pictures and hope you will accept our apologies for the one course/picture that has a spoon in it. That course looked (and was) so delicious that we all started eating before we took a picture. The cheese course was a welcome and unique experience for us. Note: the picture I posted was AI adjusted as we removed the photobombers (coworkers and other patrons) from the picture. No cheese was altered by AI. The wine list was extensive and impressive and our selections matched up well to our menu. The Cheval Banc team was a perfect accompaniment to the food and drink. The entire team worked with precision, knowing just when to serve the next course with compelling descriptions. The team was personal and engaging, yet never intrusive. Flawless in execution while at the same time graceful in delivery. Our chef came out at the end of our meal and engaged our table for a few minutes. He was authentically interested in learning about our experience and outwardly pleased we enjoyed our time. To finish off the day, our group was escorted to the Cigar Bar for drinks and a smoke. It could not have been a better setting for our nightcap (err, day cap). The setting was reminiscent of a scene from a James Bod movie. Yet again, we felt refreshingly alone in a room with multiple groups present and our experience only enhanced by the people serving us. Our only regret was cutting or trip to Basel short by a day. Hopefully we will have a chance to return to the wonderful city on a future trip and be lucky enough to dine at Cheval Blanc again. Maybe we will see you there!

First and foremost, a big thank you to the staff. They made our evening a memorable. The atmosphere was fantastic. The food was delicious. It was elaborately prepared and served by passionate staff. Thank you.
Zebiba H — Google review
this was our 3rd michelin experience in Basel and unfortunately the most disappointing. We had the 6 course dinner menu with wine pairing. Nothing felt exceptional about a 3 michelin star restaurant here. We really expected an elevated experience, but it felt quite flat. The starters and even the menu itself were not very memorable. We liked the main courses of fish and deer but besides that, nothing stood out. We had to fill up on bread since we were not even close to being full. Also there was almost no explanation of why a particular wine was paired with a food; we were only given the description of the wine. We also asked many questions about the origins of the ingredients and most of the staff were unaware. Overall, did not feel even close to the 4 digit price tag we ended up paying.

Tldr: Excellent three Michelin star restaurant in a beautiful setting. Come hungry if you're having the prix fixe menu. Came for dinner. Ordered the six course prix fixe menu. Got 14 courses. Not disappointed. The service is excellent, the setting is beautiful, and the food is always high quality. I wasn't blown away by any single dish, like I often am when dining at a place of this caliber, but everything was very good, and there was a lot of variety. It's an excellent experience, but be prepared to linger over dinner. We arrived at 7:15 and left at 11pm.

Technical knowledge and understanding of flavours on show. Some of the best fish and seafood dishes I have eaten. Sea urchin outstanding and sole was inspired. The main course lacked cohesion and cooking of the lamb missed the mark for me. Service was formal, and attentive. Some low level music would help to break down the stuffy and stiff atmosphere.

Great food, Great experience. Highly recommended. I can see why they earned the Michelin Stars. Each dish was unique and flavourful. My favorite part was the briefcase filled with chocolate that was presented at the end of the meal.

It's obviously amazing since it didn't get three stars by chance but even with high expectations it was outstanding. Delicious food compositions, flawless service and a sophisticated atmosphere.

Soul food restaurant
Za Zaa is a calm, light-filled Lebanese restaurant that specializes in shared small plates. The menu includes many different types of Lebanese and Mediterranean dishes, as well as Middle Eastern and Persian options. There is also a full bar serving wine and beer, as well as healthy drinks. The restaurant has outdoor seating, wheelchair access, and accepts American Express, Mastercard, Visa. There is free wifi for guests.
Really nice place, great service. Food was delicious and served quickly. The restaurant was full with locals which is always a good sign. The menu is varied. Important note - they do not serve meat. Shakshuka was delicious, and the cold mezze as well. Recommended!
Miri T — Google review
If you’re looking for an authentic Lebanese or Arab restaurant, Za Zaa - Lebanese Soul Food is not the place for you. Despite its name, this is actually a vegetarian restaurant, with only two or three Lebanese-inspired dishes on the menu. The rest of the food has little to do with Lebanese or Middle Eastern cuisine. That being said, if you’re vegetarian or vegan, you might enjoy the variety of plant-based dishes they offer. However, be prepared for high prices, as the food is quite expensive for what you get. The restaurant is also very crowded, which can make it a bit uncomfortable during peak hours. On the positive side, the staff is highly professional and quick, ensuring a smooth dining experience. If you’re specifically searching for Lebanese food, I’d recommend looking elsewhere, but if you’re open to a vegetarian menu and don’t mind the price, you might enjoy it.

Delicious food, good and nice service. One of the best Lebanese restaurants I have eaten in. Hummus is especially tasty. Make sure you reserve when you want a table on the terrace in the evening!
Peter S — Google review
We were at Zazaa today for lunch and thought there would be meat, but one of the male staff treated us a little strangely and too nicely, as if we were children or because we were women. That was upsetting for us. We left the restaurant because we wanted to eat meat. The atmosphere and the other staff were nice and it also smelled good. So, this restaurant is definitely good for vegetarians.

Stumbled upon this restaurant on my way back to hotel Rochat, and the smell of food was wavering to the street. The waitresses Sam, Debbi and Laura were very warm and friendly, the food was absolutely delicious and fulfilling and the atmosphere was relaxing with the oriental decor and the little Persian style carpets. Would definitely visit again and again

I love this restaurant always visit once a month ! But when it’s a bit full the service is bad honestly asked twice for something and got ignored. Cuisine is good !

We went to eat at Zazaa with a group today. The food was okay, but a little too bland for my taste. However, the restaurant is very attractive and pretty throughout. The waiter who served us, on the other hand, was not so great. He was inattentive, didn't really take care of us and played around on his mobile phone from time to time. He was actually more interested in the female guests sitting with us. Was a bit annoying honestly… At least the other staff were very nice and friendly.
Olaf K — Google review
Left Without Ordering- lots of young waitstaff at the hostess station and lots of empty tables. They seated us right next to an office door that opens and closes and one person can only look at the door. We asked to move to one of the many other open two seat tables but were told that they were all reserved? Did not like his attitude. Then we realized the appetizer plate was dirty with a visible streak of something left on it. Left without ordering. I know they know we’re just tourists and that they’ll never see us again but that’s just not good business.

The restaurant Latini is a popular spot for Italian cuisine in the city center of Basel. The food is excellent, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The only downside is that it can get very busy, so reservations are recommended.
We went there without a reservation and were seated very quickly. The food was absolutely delicious 10/10. Fresh, tasty, well seasoned and the waiters were very nice as well. The restaurant itself, the enteriour is a bit outdated but still very clean and neat. Would go there again to try some more food definately

For visiting Basel, this is on my 'must go' list. Their vegan Planted Steak is artfully seasoned - flavorful, tender, and meaty. The staff was friendly and appropriately attentive. Love my meals here!

We recently tried Latini, reserved a table for dinner was easy via online reservation. Location is very central. But the supposedly italian experience was not what we expected the Spaghetti Vongole was bitter taste of burnt garlic the clams were tasteless.. the Ravioli di ricotta e spinaci al burro e salvia First and foremost Ricotta is a delicate cheese when not freshly made it got dry and tasteless. We were speechless dining in this called Italian Restaurant as theres nothing Italian here… though Bruciato saved our night! Antipasti, Primo, Secondo and Dessert Menu even tried their espresso.. Highly NOT recommended if you tasted the real Italian cuisine.. Dont eat here its a scam and a tourist trap..

We enjoyed a meal at Ristorante Latini in May 2025. Just a short walk from the tram station in Barfusserplatz, Ristorante Latini is tastefully decorated and is larger inside than it seems. I had the Kalbfleisch saffron risotto and found it quite delicious, although the portion was a touch on the small side. I also enjoyed a cream of asparagus soup as a starter, which was absolutely amazing. Prices were good and reasonable for Switzerland. As with most restaurants in Switzerland it was a bit warm and stuffy inside for my liking, and it wasn't particularly hot out yet. Fortunately a couple of cold beers helped to make the climate in the restaurant more bearable.
J B — Google review
I liked the cosy atmosphere, with candles on the tables. Service was good. To be honest, I didn't care so much for the spaghetti all’aglio, olio e peperoncino, which felt very heavy on the stomach. I had expected it to be lighter. Maybe another time, I will opt for something different. Very nice presentation of the wine, though: Rather than just a glass of wine, it was presented in a mini carafe, which I liked very much.

The service and atmosphere were great. Everyone looked happy. The Lasagne was a little dense but the sauce was fantastic. I would still go back for sure.

Spacious interior with bar an restaurant part, menu with lots of choice of well known Italian dishes. Quality and taste of the food good. Average sized servings. The personal parmasan cheese grater you get with the pasta dishes is nice gimmick. Had dinner here on a late Sunday evening. Staff very friendly and service is fast.

It is highly recommended to visit the Italian restaurant Trattoria Aroma for a delicious meal. The owner is friendly and the food is excellent, with a variety of options for vegetarians. Every time I have visited, the experience has been great. The service is attentive and polite too.
We finally found a 5 star restaurant in Basel that blew us away albeit at a cost. It was our last night in the city and we were getting worried we would not find something to stand out but Aroma stepped up and knocked it out of the park for us. The food is properly authentic and absolutely delicious. The guanciale in the carbonara for example was so well prepared that it was crunchy on the first bite and then immediately melts in your mouth with an explosion of porky delight. We have been to restaurants in Rome itself with worse food that we had here so we can't recommend it enough. Special thanks to Stefania who was an excellent host and made the evening even more memorable.

Amazing food served by great and personable service in a vibrant Italian mood. When we asked off-hand if they could make a cheese board for dessert they drummed something up and didn’t charge us! Tiramisu was also delicious.
Eric F — Google review
Unfortunately the food was very disappointing, especially for the price! Both our pastas were extremely salty and otherwise just tasteless. The server was not really friendly either and he definitely did not like the fact that we did not want starters and rushed things from then on. The terras itself was nice enough but all in all it was not the warm and welcoming place you would be looking for. We do not recommend at all, if you're a foodie and/or want value for your money, don't go here!

Markthalle Basel is a popular indoor food market in Basel, offering a wide variety of international cuisines from different countries. The market features numerous stalls where visitors can sample diverse dishes and enjoy their meals at the large communal tables inside the unique building. In addition to the culinary offerings, Markthalle Basel hosts evening events and a weekly Sunday brunch known as 'Zmorgeland.' Families with children can take advantage of the small play area while parents dine at surrounding tables.
Loved this amazing international indoor food market!! So many different options - Thai, Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Israeli, Italian, Lebanese, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals from Taste of Jerusalem and Vietnamese and would definitely return to this gem in the heart of Basel.

10/10 Diverse food options from around the world. A great place to connect with people and enjoy the cuisine you prefer. From Parisian, Korean, and Thai to Italian, it has it all. On weekends, it can get quite busy. No table reservations possible unless it’s a corporate event.

First of all its location is great, very close to Basel Station. The tram station is just outside. It's a huge hall under the biggest dome in Europe built in 1929. There are food stalls from almost all over the world. Beside there is a wine cellar and a big bar. On certain days in the morning they also sell fresh fruits and vegetables. Its a free seating. After you order your food, they give you a beeper. Meanwhile you can select your seating place. One can also sit on outdoor patio. After going through all stalls, we had our lunch at Goi's Thai Kitchen. The food and service was very good. However our favorite was Schokolade, a great place for deserts. We had Tiramisu and Chocolate cake, very yummy. Different stalls have different timings for opening and closing. Worth visiting...

Rubino is a mediterranean restaurant in Basel with an elegant approach to food and wine. The kitchen does the rest, serving four, five or six dishes per person according to guests' food restrictions. Wine pairings are offered for each dish.
We came for our usual group dinner a few days ago. The setting is quite elegant, and suitable for medium sized groups. They serve what is called inventive/imaginary cuisine, where there is a surprise menu. You choose the overall menu and leave the specific dishes to them. But the staff will explain the dishes to you. Overall, the experience was enjoyable, reflective of high Swiss standards
Gilbert C — Google review
Rubino is a very special restaurant for me! It’s small but elegantly decorated and from the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a genuinely warm welcome. They take the time to explain the dishes, ask about any food allergies and consider your dietary preferences. As a starter, the German bread served with Swiss butter and Turkish olive oil was such a lovely surprise for me! Every dish we tried was delicious and carefully prepared. I highly recommend you experience this place for yourself it’s truly worth it! It’s also a perfect spot for a date! ✨ We had such a lovely and flavorful evening that we completely lost track of time.. If you’re ever in the area, make sure to stop by, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss!

It takes a lot of trust to pay more than 100f for a three course meal that you have no idea what you will be eating, but every mouthful was exquisite! The wine accompaniment was delightful - completely new grape varieties and flavours that suited the wine perfectly. Magnificent! Situated in a quiet street minutes walk from the Basel Kunstmuseum.

Rubino is an absolute gem of a restaurant and wine bar! From the moment you step inside, the cozy and inviting ambiance sets the tone for an unforgettable dining experience. The atmosphere feels warm and intimate, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing evening. The food is nothing short of amazing. Each dish was prepared to perfection, with flavors that left a lasting impression. It’s clear the chefs put immense care and thought into every plate. Pair that with their impressive wine selection, and you have a match made in culinary heaven. The service and staff are truly exceptional. Everyone we encountered was friendly, attentive, and made us feel like valued guests. Their genuine hospitality made such an impression that we couldn’t resist going back for a second night in a row. Rubino is a place that leaves you wanting more, and it’s a must-visit if you’re looking for a memorable dining experience. I can’t recommend it enough!

Friendly service, Good dinner. Only surprise “Omakase” course you can have, but they offer some flexible options including vegetarian menu. It seems to be a bit expensive, need to be better. You may feel potential of them but some dish is missing something like balance of taste, some of them is too salty. The wine selection is great.
Ke I — Google review
Full disclosure: My recollection of the food that I had isn't very clear. A fact, less attributable to the food and more to the circumstances of the evening. I do remember the service being excellent, very attentive and knowledgeable at guiding us through the various courses of the surprise menu. Especially one of the wine pairings was a highlight for me. The vibe was very welcoming which was especially important due to the beforementioned circumstances: I was on a date. And I hadn't been in a while. And it was perfect. Thank you for creating an athmosphere where two people can walk in, sit down and get to know eachother. Thank you for not having any friction and requiring few decisions. Exactly the right experience when your stomach is empty and filled with butterflies at the same time.

Taverne Johann is a restaurant with an excellent experience. You can mix and match dishes from the menu or order a la carte, and the service is quick and friendly. The food is outstanding in both taste and presentation, with delicious sauces adding extra flavor to each dish. Prices are on the higher end, but still reasonable. The atmosphere at Taverne Johann is always cozy, making it a great place to enjoy food.
The food here is gorgeous - we tried the 7-course taster menu and it was lovely but the service was so sedate that we were there for four hours which was a bit torturous at the end. The food is exquisite and the wine is really nice but the mark-up is a bit OTT - we paid 63F for a wine that cost 18,50F in the SBB wine shop.

My partner & I were lucky enough to get a table as we had not booked. We had what I consider to be one of best dining experiences I’ve ever had, everything was perfect. I had Coq au Vin, absolutely delicious. My partner had Venison sausage with potato, gravy & mustard, he loved it. We were given a basket of complimentary bread, superb! Service was friendly, helpful & attentive. And the restaurant itself is very charming in an understated way, lots of mood lighting with tealight candles, very pretty. The restaurant filled up quickly, I would strongly recommend booking a table. If I lived in Basel (we’re from Australia), this would be my go-to restaurant for special occasions.
Bron R — Google review
Fantastic cozy little restaurant. The chef puts a lot of thought into the beautiful and inventive dishes he prepares. Delicious of course. There's also a great selection of wines and drinks. Highly recommend that you book ahead. As starter, I had a "black forest cake" that's actually a mini tower of smoked trout, cured ham, pate and dark bread, dressed with melon and more cured ham shaving around it. As main course, I had a more "traditional" dish of stewed knuckles (lammhaxe) but hidden around the sauce reduction and salad are these crunchy bits of crusted flour helped along by perfectly stir fried kale leaves that bring this heartwarming old school dish a textured delight in every bite. This review is already getting a little long. So, all I'll say about dessert is that it's a deconstructed classic that made me want more of the meringue and berries, and I don't usually eat either. I would have gone back if I had a second night in Basel, and it seems they only open for dinner.

Really love this place! Super cozy atmosphere, amazing brunch, and so many great vegan options. They’ve got lots of different matcha choices too (like a really nice matcha brownie, which I always get).

Food is good, just overpriced for the amount of food that you get. Service is very disorganized (if you’ve never been to the place and you make a reservation, there is no one to receive you at the entrance and explain to you what to do or to ask about your reservation) and the place is very loud.

I like the place. Their biggest advantage is their open hours, combined with good coffee quality. I liked the meals I have tried so far. The lemon cake is very good. Attention is good and kind. You have to order yourself at the bars. The noise is usually loud inside, the place is big and cozy.

Absolutely the best café in Basel! Every time I visit the city, my day starts with breakfast at Unteremitte. It’s become my little ritual. The place has such a relaxed vibe, the staff are super friendly, and everything they serve is top quality. I love their coffee and fresh Gipfeli (forgive my pronunciation 😅). It always feels warm and welcoming. Can’t wait to be back.
Fabio N — Google review
Visiting Unternehmen Mitte is always a pleasure - they serve some of the best coffee in Basel, and the atmosphere is always very welcoming. I also really appreciate that there‘s no pressure to order anything in order to stay. On this particular visit, I had a homemade iced tea and the raspberry cheesecake - both were delicious, highly recommended! My friend ordered a cold chai and the lemon cheesecake. While the chai was great, the lemon cheesecake was a bit disappointing, the base was overly lemony, and she couldn‘t finish it. That aside, we both really enjoyed our time there!
Clarissa P — Google review
The place looks nice and the staff are kind, but the problem clearly lies with the management. The delays are excessive, and it’s obvious there are not enough employees. Prices are normal – not cheap – so customers should expect proper service, not long waits and self-service frustration. This trend in Switzerland where you pay full price but do half the work yourself is getting tiring. The owners should hire more staff and rethink the concept before relying on aesthetics to make up for poor organization.

Modern European restaurant
Roter Bären is a popular and trendy restaurant located in the hip Ochsengasse area of Basel. The chef, Roger von Buren, is highly regarded for his thoughtful and cleverly sourced dishes that offer a modern twist on Swiss specialties and European cuisine. The restaurant's casual vibe and excellent cooking have earned it a reputation as a must-visit dining spot in the city.
I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Roter Bären. We had an interesting gastronomic experience with most plates being a success. Quite expensive but good value for money if you celebrate a special occasion or fancy a high-end bistronomic experience.

Creative. Delicious. Great concept with the same sized portion. Kind service. Highlight was the filled ravioli! Definitely a gourmet restaurant but with reasonable prices!
Rainer G — Google review
Nice food, but slow. Long wait between courses. Service was very slow - which was surprising for a Michelin guide restaurant. Cutlery wasn’t replaced or changed between courses; after the cocktails we requested right at the start of the meal, we weren’t asked if we wanted anything else to drink throughout the meal; we had to ask for more water after our bottle was empty for 20 mins. A nice restaurant, but being Michelin guide raised our expectations to other similar restaurants and overall we were left disappointed.
Suraj — Google review
Wow. First of all, the atmosphere was amazing - intimate and cozy yet modern. But man, the food was incredible! I think the menu rotates but some of my favorites were the celery/white chocolate/quinoa soup, grilled lettuce with potato ice cream & truffle shavings, truffle tagliatelle w egg, and the venison with spatzle and cherry. Prices are set for 3, 4, or 5 plates per person; my friend and I ordered 4 each (to try the full menu of 8 items total) and we were quite full (but very happy). The service was great, from recommending good wines to asking if we needed a break between courses (which we did). Overall, it was excellent!!
Stephanie C — Google review
My review is based on the bar, as I didn’t have dinner there. It felt a bit overrated, cocktail was just a regular cocktail not even cold enough…. You pay more for the views of the terrace that in the weekend is too crowded (no music in the background ) just a lot of noise of someone’s else conversations

Mark G — Google review
Subject: Serious Concern Regarding Recent Dining Experience Dear im Ackermannshof Team, I’m writing to express my deep disappointment with a recent dinner at your restaurant, which sadly caused me significant physical discomfort and has shaken my trust in a place I once considered a favorite. When I arrived, your waitress kindly assured me that my dietary requirements—lactose intolerant, vegetarian, and no alcohol—would be fully accommodated across the 4-course menu. I appreciated this, as I always communicate these clearly due to the severe discomfort I experience if they are not followed. Unfortunately, the dishes served to me included buffalo mozzarella, fried feta cheese, and undercooked eggs, all of which I would not have expected based on my restrictions. I ate them, trusting that my needs had been taken into account, but not long afterward, I began experiencing severe bloating and pain, to the point I could barely sit still. I spoke with the waitress during the meal, but was told the chef was too busy to address the issue. I ended up paying 400 CHF (with tip) for a dinner that made me sick. This experience was not only disappointing but physically distressing. At the very least, I would have expected your team to take responsibility immediately and offer an appropriate response. I urge you to take dietary restrictions more seriously moving forward, and I would appreciate hearing how you plan to address this.

We were welcomed by the team at Ackermannshof with a level of hospitality that makes dining out truly a worth while experience. The food is visually enticing, and the curation of flavors are exceptionally delightful. The wine selections, and spirits are well researched and justly compliments the quality of the cuisine. From the chef's recommendations, to the server's elegant and knowledgeable level of service - we were more than impressed and immediately trusted that they understood our needs. I sincerely look forward to dining here again, and discover the menu in greater depths with the restaurant's well curated design furniture and ambience. Kudos to the team for your on-going passion and contribution to the industry.

Roots is a sophisticated and elegant restaurant located in the Rhypark event venue, offering a mostly vegetarian culinary experience with some fish and meat dishes. The establishment boasts a glamorous and modern interior, as well as a terrace overlooking Basel's old town and the Rhine. It is known for its haute cuisine, with Pascal Steffen at the helm focusing on vegetable-centric creations. The Michelin-starred restaurant provides a very pleasant dining experience, making it an ideal choice for date nights in summer.
A sumptuous experience for the eyes and the palate. Excellent service and a beautiful setting overlooking the Rhine. Mostly vegetarian with a few meat and fish courses. A chef who appeared twice to connect with us and expressed genuine delight and humility at our enjoyment of the whole experience. Every team member was unobtrusive but attentive. The wine pairing was superb as each sip enhanced the flavours on one’s plate. An excellent experience and well deserving of two Michelin stars.

Went here to celebrate a special birthday and had a wonderful night. This is exactly the type of high-end restaurant which was missing in Basel. The new location is lively, stylish and suits the service and food & beverage offered. Very cool & knowledgeable service team and heartfelt interactions from the chef and kitchen team. No fuss about dress code / come as you are (creates a diverse more interesting crowd than at other ** restaurants) We requested a mix of alcoholic and non alcoholic pairings - absolutely fantastic! Food Highlights: Fish dishes, Veggie dishes and out of this world patisserie / desserts! Wishing Roots continued success at their new location…!

A magnificent restaurant for a high-end, discreet, and culinary experience in a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. With carefully crafted menus and recipes created using fresh, local products, it deserves to be a two-star Michelin restaurant, and many thanks to the friendly and warm welcoming team.

The king of veggies truly deserves his reputation! The cuisine proposed by Pascal Steffen is absolutely mind blowing (especially considering the size of his team). A pure fireworks of tastes and textures, and a solid contender to the title of the best place to dine in Basel. We particularly appreciated the cuisine (give me more of those veggies 🤩🤩🤩) and the nicely relaxed atmosphere. Service was great and relaxed too, creating a cozy atmosphere. We loved our evening and dinner and are truly looking forward to the next occasion. A massive thank you to the whole Roots team! 🙏

Food portions were perfect so that when we left we didn’t feel saturated or saturated towards desserts! Rather it was satiating and the wine pairing was perfect, the stand out wine pairing was Cypriot wine Kουμανδαρια with cheese dish ! They accommodate vegetarian requests Overall memorable experience Service 4/5 Rest 5/5

2nd review here. Just wanted to also point out how well the sandwiches travel if the take out option is used for the Philly cheese sandwiches and a vegetarian egg sandwich. From the restaurant in Gebenstorf, we drove to the Badi in Brugg, it's a good 15 minute journey and they were perfect! See photos

I went to roots to celebrate my birthday. From the moment we walked we felt special. The personnel was amazing, very kind and attentive and everyone, chef included, gave me birthday wishes. For the menu we chose the 8 plates menu and I think it was perfect from quantity and quality (2 entree, 2 first, 2 mains and 2 desserts). The food was simply spectacular, few ingredients but so nicely assembled and thought of. Beautiful plates and super tasty and genuine food. We loved that they use regional and seasonal product whenever they can. The restaurant is quite minimal decorated but once it is full (which it was) it was a very cozy ambient. We will definitely return to try out more plates!

Restaurant zur Wanderruh, an establishment where the culinary experience is truly delightful, stands out as a rare gem. This dining spot, located in Basel, offers outstanding service and an exquisite selection of dishes. Upon entering, guests are immediately greeted by friendly staff who ensure a warm welcome. The appetizers are highly recommended and include delectable options such as soup, salad, and bone marrow.
I was the only Asian. He knew my name from the first time I came in and the service was great. The salad was so delicious. So awesome ! The main dish was a little salty to the taste of Koreans, but it was still delicious. The chef came out and asked me how the food was, and I was so impressed. Everything was a perfect dinner🤩

TOURISTS BE CAREFUL. Went here with parents. At end of meal, waiter asked where we were from (America) and proceeded to ask us “how much will you tip?” while he did this with none of the other tables. Switzerland and Europe tip is already included. Only asked us this trying to take advantage. Food, service, and ambience was amazing. Recommend, just be careful.

Gatto Nero is a simple yet charming Italian restaurant located in the lower Kleinbasel area. The menu is limited but features fresh, authentic Italian dishes that are cooked to perfection. The interior is minimalist and the prices are reasonable, making it a popular spot with sometimes long waiting times. Guests praise the cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food with intense flavors. While some wish for a larger terrace, others appreciate the small but well-considered menu and excellent service provided by the welcoming host.
We called them and got there quite late (just after 10pm on Wednesday) and they were really nice to still take us up and let us have some of their really good meals: bruschetta, pizza, lasagna, as well as their bread were all really good quality. And very nice service.

Nestled in the heart of Basel's Old Town, Hotel Les Trois Rois is a luxurious 17th-century riverside hotel that has hosted renowned figures like Napoleon and Pablo Picasso. The hotel offers refined accommodations with complimentary WiFi, access to a fitness center, and a BaselCard for free public transport and discounts on cultural activities. Known for its acclaimed dining and cigar lounge, this historic establishment also hosts special events like Mother's Day Brunch.
There is no more extraordinary grand hotel than this one. The staff is competent, friendly, helpful and exceptionally well trained. There is hardly a wish that cannot be read from your lips in an almost magical way. The rooms are bright, large, very well equipped, clean, almost clinically pure. The housekeeping, concierge, reception, directions assistance and front office manager are a well-coordinated team. A taxi is called for the customer in seconds, the bar is well stocked and the staff are knowledgeable, friendly and always good for a cocktail surprise. The cigar lounge ‘The Council’ was my living room during my stay, with a very good selection of Cuban cigars of the highest quality. The entire hotel is on par with any international museum in terms of its international art collection. The bar cuisine is exquisite and the restaurant is of world-class quality. I felt at home here and look forward to coming back. It's worth travelling the furthest distances for this place!

Toxic, biased, and completely unprofessional security – avoid this hotel if you care about fairness and safety I had one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a luxury hotel — all because of the incompetent and biased security staff at Hotel Les Trois Rois. During my visit, I witnessed and experienced blatant gender discrimination. A male guest made a completely unverified comment, and without hesitation, security sided with him — no questions asked, no effort to understand the full context, no interest in hearing both sides. They immediately took action against me, simply because I’m a woman. Their behavior was aggressive, condescending, and rooted in outdated attitudes that have no place in any professional setting, let alone a five-star hotel. The way they handled the situation was not just careless — it was dangerous. Their actions sent a clear message: women are not respected here. The security staff do not behave like trained professionals. They act with prejudice, arrogance, and a disturbing lack of accountability. They treated me with suspicion instead of respect, and it was clear they had already made up their minds before speaking a single word to me. This is not just a service failure — it is a serious reflection of a toxic culture that starts with poor hiring, lack of training, and a complete disregard for guest safety, especially for women. If you're expecting world-class service, safety, and fair treatment, stay far away from this hotel. Until the management overhauls its security practices and addresses the bias in its staff, Hotel Les Trois Rois is not a safe place — it’s a risk.

Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois – Basel, Switzerland Staying at Les Trois Rois was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I arrived, the service was seamless, warm, and attentive, setting the tone for a stay that felt both luxurious and personal. ✨ Accommodations: Spacious, elegant rooms that combine old-world charm with modern comfort. The bathtub alone was an experience — the perfect place to unwind after exploring Basel. ✨ Service: Every interaction felt thoughtful and genuine, from the front desk to the housekeeping team. The attention to detail is what makes this hotel stand out among Europe’s finest. ✨ Atmosphere: There’s a timeless grandeur here, but it never feels overwhelming. Instead, you feel like part of the story, walking in the footsteps of history while enjoying every modern luxury. If you’re looking for a hotel that embodies heritage, refinement, and true hospitality, Les Trois Rois is the pinnacle. A stay I will never forget — and one I can’t wait to repeat. - Michelle

Worst security experience I’ve ever had – disgraceful treatment of women The security team at Hotel Les Trois Rois is not just unprofessional – they are outright disrespectful and biased. I had a deeply unpleasant encounter where a male guest made a false or minor accusation, and without any effort to verify facts or speak to me directly, security immediately acted against me. They treated me, a female visitor and professional, with no respect or courtesy, showing a shocking lack of basic investigative protocol, empathy, or neutrality. Their first and only instinct was to take the man’s word as truth, without question. This wasn’t a misunderstanding – it was a clear pattern of discrimination. The security staff acted with an aggressive, arrogant, and authoritarian attitude that has no place in any hotel, let alone one with five stars and a reputation for luxury. To be blunt: the security staff here behave like they’re guarding a nightclub, not a historic luxury hotel. They’re poorly trained, deeply biased, and damaging the hotel’s reputation. If you are a woman, a solo traveler, or anyone who expects to be treated with fairness and dignity, do not stay here. The security behavior was offensive, outdated, and dangerous. This hotel clearly prioritizes the comfort of men over the safety and dignity of women. I urge management to take serious action, because the current state of their security team is nothing short of shameful.

Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois — Where Civilization Still Dares to Dream, somewhere between Basel and the edges of myth There are hotels, and then there are living myths — and Les Trois Rois is the latter. A monument to human decency, a sanctuary for those who still believe that class, kindness, and romance belong together in the same trembling sentence. You arrive, like a weary pilgrim at the gates of civilization, and the staff receives you not with corporate smiles but with genuine warmth — the kind that could thaw the Swiss winter and make even a cynic believe again in the possibility of grace. From the first moment you step inside, you know you’re walking through the pages of some grand European story. The chandeliers hum. The leather whispers. The service it’s not subservience; it’s art. Everyone here seems to understand an unspoken covenant: that romance isn’t dead, that beauty still matters, that the world can be civil if only for the span of one perfect evening. And then there’s the patio, that blessed stage overlooking the Rhine. It’s not just a view — it’s a meditation, a Jungian dream made real. The river rolls on like the collective unconscious, deep and ancient, reflecting gold light off its dark surface while couples lean close over glasses of wine, rediscovering their purpose in the myth of each other. You can almost hear Carl Jung himself sighing somewhere upriver, murmuring about archetypes and rebirth as the night drifts in like smoke. Then the beef tartare arrives — a dish so precise, so deliriously good, it could rouse the gods from Olympus for one more dinner on earth. It’s not merely raw meat — it’s a declaration of faith in craftsmanship, in sensuality, in the power of a single bite to silence the noise of modern existence. Pair it with a glass of Saint-Émilion and watch your pulse slow to match the rhythm of the Rhine. Les Trois Rois is a hotel birthing civility, a place that believes in the romance of being alive. The kind of establishment that makes you remember why people once dressed for dinner, why letters were written by hand, and why love — that fragile, impossible thing — is still worth chasing through the centuries. Proof that in this mad, mechanized age, elegance still has a pulse and it beats here on the banks of the Rhine.

ART HOUSE Basel - Member of Design Hotels is a stylish hotel with chic rooms, some featuring balconies, and amenities like a restaurant and rooftop bar. The hotel's location in Basel makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the city's attractions such as the historic Basel Town Hall and the unique Hoosesagg Museum. It is also conveniently situated near top-rated hotels and popular landmarks.
Absolutely fantastic! Stayed for one night, and I arrived early. When I asked if I could leave my bags in storage, the gentleman at reception said he would give me an upgrade so I could get in a room right away. I was given a suite with huge windows, delightful shower, and a great vibe. There was a music party on the rooftop, but it is August and it was a Friday so it’s understandable. They provided ear plugs and that was more than sufficient. It was an incredible location, came with a Basel card so public transport was covered and museums were half off. Will absolutely stay here again when in Basel!

Everything about this hotel is amazing. The rooms are wonderful, very cozy and comfortable beds. The service is very friendly and quick to help if you need anything. The breakfast and rooftop bar are also really good. The location is super central and you can reach anything pretty easily and quickly. It's a 5 minute walk from the train station, there is many restaurants, shops and public transport close by. BUT the street is in fact incredibly noisy: it didn't matter if it was a weekday or on the weekends, the noise was terrible even after 2 or 3am. If you close the windows it's a bit better, but you definitely still hear it. The hotel provides ear plugs, but I find it very uncomfortable to sleep with these. Anyone considering to stay here should be aware of the location and noise level until early morning hours. Other than that: nicest hotel I've ever been to!

The Art House Hotel is a very nice place in the heart of Basel, perfect if you want to stay in the livelier part of the city. The rooms are spacious, well-equipped, and the beds are very comfortable. Towards the weekend it can get a bit noisy, but that’s the trade-off for the central location. Breakfast on the sixth floor is excellent, with a wide selection, a warm welcome from the staff, and lovely views over Basel.

Sometimes a hotel exceeds the expectations from all perspectives .. Art House did it for me! Everything was spot on for me, the room had everything, spacious, comfortable bed, large bathroom + walk in shower, fine amenities, high quality in room coffee and tea, a Marshall Bluetooth sound system, a big balcony, a filled ( free of charge minibar !! ) and a pair of very comfortable chairs. The building has a very calm atmosphere with nice photographic art on every floor. The hotel is located in a lively street with many restaurants so no need to go far for dinner. Breakfast is served in the rooftop bar and is of high quality, with lots of fresh ingredients. Seriously, I travel a lot for business and stay in many hotels, Art House truly exceeds the expectations.

We’ve just spent our first night at the hotel, here for the Women’s Euro final. I have one main thought—or rather a vision of how this place might have been created: The people behind it must have sat down with a piece of paper and listed everything that pissed them off during business or personal trips in hotels. And then? They built this place exactly the way they’d want a 4-star hotel stay to feel—if not even better. A wonderful place, great service, and beautiful design. I’m truly impressed!

Highly rate my stay at AH Basel. Stayed 4 nights in a modest room in Oct. Very friendly staff. Clean rooms and bedding. Great style with the wood surfaces and flooring. I was worried about the sound from the bars below at street level but the window (which slides open) is heavy and seems to have sound proofing. Great location with the Rathaus only a few minutes walk and also close to SBB train station. Breakfast was nice, and I think decent value for what you pay compared to going to a cafe in the street (Switzerland is always expensive for an Aussie). Perhaps my only concern would be if I was sharing this room with a partner - the toilet situation is not so private as they using sliding Japanese screens for the bathroom. But the shower and accessories are all tops. Oh and I loved the late check out time. Danke!

Nestled in the vibrant Erlenmatt Ost neighborhood, Silo Soulfood Hostel is a unique gem that transforms a former grain warehouse into an artistic haven. This boutique hostel features minimalist design elements and striking architecture, including circular windows and spacious corridors that create an inviting atmosphere. Guests rave about the well-organized dorms and immaculate washrooms, ensuring comfort during their stay. The friendly staff are always on hand to offer recommendations for exploring Basel, and they even provide complimentary bikes for easy city navigation.
Beautiful and peaceful. I liked the rooms' the style and design, our room was quiet with no sound from the street, it was very clean, the bed is comfortable and the towels are a treat. We had coffee with oat milk which was delicious. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The room was very warm (no thermostat, so I can only guess: 27 degrees Celsius) and we couldn't find out how to adjust it, the windows wouldn't open. I was also a bit confused about the hotel's bicycle offer (one of the reasons I chose it), they told me they only had one - there were two of us - and I'm not sure if they only had one for the time we stayed or at all. The breakfast was okay, the coffee was really nice, but I would add vegan bread spreads for those who eat vegan.

I had a wonderful stay here! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, going above and beyond — they even offered to prepare gluten-free bread for me next time after learning about my allergy. The free breakfast was delicious with plenty of variety. The bed was comfortable, and I appreciated having a privacy covering and a phone charger right by the bed. The bathroom was clean and well maintained. Highly recommend!

The hostel is so peculiar - nice atmosphere, nice people, nice staff: loved it! It has wide spaces and it is a peaceful and silent place. Also, the staff was so nice with me. If I'll ever come back to Basel, this hostel would be my choice! About the breakfast, there aren't many options, but I reckon it's common in Swiss hostels having a restricted selection of food at breakfast for sustainability reasons and I appreciate it.

Unsafe for Solo Female Travelers! I stayed at this hostel for 14 days while completing coursework in Basel, and I regret choosing it. What should have been a straightforward, secure stay turned into a series of mismanaged situations that left me feeling unsafe and disrespected. I specifically booked a female-only room, yet midway through my stay, I was moved to a room with only men due to a guest’s misbehavior. When I requested to be moved back to a women-only room, I was told my spot had been given away, and my concerns were repeatedly dismissed. The staff was unhelpful and indifferent to my discomfort. One staff member’s attitude was particularly troubling. She giggled when I asked about my reassignment to a male-only room, and her behavior seemed personal—possibly stemming from her own negative experiences in Barcelona (my hometown). It felt like a form of overcompensation for her past. When I escalated the issue to management, I was told they "didn’t know" it was a problem because they "don’t speak English or Spanish"—a clear lie, as they speak both fluently. Instead, I was told they had more important matters to focus on, like organizing events for pharmacists. Take into consideration that they work until 5 PM, and there's nobody at the desk to manage any issues at night. You’re on your own. At times, it felt like I would be safer outside the building. The hostel's facilities were equally subpar. Common areas were often off-limits to guests. One lounge had an awful smell due to poor ventilation, and there was no access to clean drinking water except for the bathroom tap. Privacy was non-existent, and rooms lacked even basic amenities like power outlets near the bed. If you are a solo female traveler, or a guest from Spain or Japan (like myself), I strongly advise you to avoid this hostel. The lack of professionalism and blatant disregard for guest safety make it a risky and deeply unsatisfactory place to stay.

Manger & Boire is a charming bistro located in the bustling Gerbergasse shopping area of Basel. The restaurant offers a variety of Italian-inspired dishes, with some claiming it serves the best fresh pasta in the city. The daily menus feature options for vegetarians, fish lovers, and meat enthusiasts, while the a la carte menu clearly labels vegetarian and vegan items.
My wife and I were in Basel and stopped in for a coffee and pastry. Both were delicious. But what drives me to write this review is the people, the vibe and cafe itself. Very bohemian vibe in the heart of old town. We absolutely love that. The guy behind the bar and the gal serving were awesome. We had no idea where we were going but hoping to find a place like this and when we stopped in, the couple running the cafe were incredibly welcoming and made us feel completely comfortable. So friendly! We weren’t able to spend a lot of time here but as I was paying, I conversed with a super interesting customer. Again, epitome of a bohemian vibe and this fascinating dude was very much that. I highly recommend if you’re into such a cool place as we are and I sincerely hope we make it back to Basel and visit this cafe again!

Friendly, cheerful, authentic. Good food at reasonable prices. My favourite place to meet up and feel at ease in Basel; although I confess I have stopped going anywhere else. Really nice dishes, maybe a bit expensive, but quality is good. They changed their menu a few months ago and it's not the same anymore, they replaced the good dishes with a lot of vegetarian and vegan alternatives. The restaurant continues to offer delicious Italian cuisine with a touch of authenticity. Guests can expect the same friendly service and professional staff that create a convivial dining experience. Whether it's the welcoming greeting or the opportunity for pleasant conversation, patrons are sure to enjoy an evening filled with good humor and delectable food.
Lovely food and very nice staff! I will definitely go back!

Nice to have this Basel institution in a new location. Always a pleasure and always delicious, warm and friendly with a scrumptious taste of Italy to boot. Good humour and a nice chat as well as a warm greeting set things up nicely for a convivial evening. When you leave it certainly was a "bona note."

The service here is top class. We literally felt like dining at home. However, I have been to Italy and tasted quite a lot of Italian cuisine, so I wouldn't call the food at this restaurant "Italian". The food here is a bit too salty or sour.

I had several times a pizza to take away and I haven’t been disappointed. Really good pizza. I have also had a week day lunch which was very good , very fresh. It difficult to know whether I give it a 4 or 5 rating. But I definitely will go back . The restaurant is very nice inside and clean , you can see the kitchen area and the boss is very friendly . Am going again quite soon and so maybe I will improve the rating

Zum Wilde Maa is a neighborhood-style restaurant in Basel, Switzerland, led by experienced chef Andreas Schuermann. The modern cuisine offered at this establishment has received high praise from diners. The menu features dishes such as perfectly cooked salmon with crunchy skin and tender walleye. While the veal was slightly overcooked for some tastes, the cheese plate and sweet wine pairing were delightful.
We had a table for Friday night to go there for dinner with our two small children while we were traveling through Basel. The restaurant is decorated with excellent taste while we felt warm, relaxed and welcome. We experienced flawless and dedicated service and enjoyed our dishes which were each for itself very good. The wine selection is small but nicely curated so it was not easy to decide but we were really happy with a Pet Nat from Graubünden and we always appreciate open sweet wines for dessert. All together it’s worth to leave the main streets of Basel to walk over to this gem.

Good (but inadequate) main but very poor starter. Perfect for customers who have not very high standards and want to pay a lot for very little food. Starter - 2/5. Salmon had way too much soya sauce; Chinese cabbage was served crunchy - very poor choice of cooking and wholly inappropriate for the salmon which is better paired with sautéed not raw cabbage Main - 4/5. A lot better, but at most 100g of meat, basically the size of a main on a degustation menu, not 3 course meal Dessert - 4/5. The size of sorbet which is a regular size scoop is significantly larger than the tiny sliver of tart, about 2.5cm on the wide end

The visit to 'Zum Wilde Maa' left us with a pleasant experience. The 4-course menu was very well balanced, with a vegetarian option available. All the courses were excellent. The highlights were the mushroom risotto and the tongue from Appenzeller lamb. The dessert wein Koehler-Ruprecht Riesling Auslese 2015 was a delightful new discovery for us. The main point of the restaurant was its atmosphere and highly experienced yet friendly service team.

Never disappoint at restaurant Zum Wilde Maa, Basel, Switzerland. We had ensemble of six course dinner with phenomenal wine paring. Assortment of delicious Swiss Salmon Ceviche to slow-cooked Beef Shoulder and seared Pikeperch were part of our gastronomical menu.

Would I come again, unfortunately not. However the food was fantastic. I had the menu with 4 courses, Salmon, Walleye, Veal and cheese. The fish was cooked perfectly the skin of the salmon crunchy with hints of salt and innside still very "pink". Same for the walley. The veal was cooked too much for my liking and was not very tender. The cheese plate was also great complemented by a sweet wine which was by itself mouthwatering. Now unfortunately the only downside I experienced. As we wanted to pay, we asked for separate checks, however she said that wouldn't be possible, we should have mentioned this before we ordered. I said that no one asked us if we wanted separate checks. The discussion went on and the lädt thing she said it was not typical for Switzerland to ask for separate cheques. Sounded pretty arrogant to me which left a little bitter taste for the great food. Oh and one more thing, the chairs are super uncomfortable.

Fabulous bistro off the beaten track in Basel. Food was delicious, and wine pairing was excellent. We liked the presentation and the flavours of the 4 course meal which we recommend as we were very satisfied after those courses (we could not have managed 6 courses). They were short staffed on the night we went and we felt compassion for the wait staff who did not stop all night. The food was of good quality and locally sourced, but the magic of flavour infusions was good but not yet perfect for all courses. The courses that they got right were excellent (loved the cervice) Seemed to have quite a few locals dining here too. Overall very pleasant.
Karen S — Google review
The food, wine, ambiance - all excellent. Servers and host very polite, accommodating and informative. We reserved for 6:30pm and 4/5 of us had the 4 course chef's menu - at 9pm we were 2 courses through the menu and my mother (who ordered three courses) had only eaten bread and soup. The wait between courses ~40-50 min, wine for the the course served 20 min before it arrived. We later noticed that most diners did not have food on their tables and the one next to us received a dish they didn't order. When our main course finally arrived, other diners who had entered the restaurant an hour after us received the same course. It seems like there may have been some communication and timing issues (aside from the extremely slow pace, we were offered water twice before it arrived; silverware placed and removed 30 min before food, my mother started to receive wine pairing without having ordered it). Again fantastic food - but for the wait and ultimately the price I cannot say we fully enjoyed. I only wonder now if it was an exception.

Tibits is a popular restaurant chain known for its vegetarian and vegan offerings. With over 40 seasonal dishes, the restaurant takes pride in using fresh, regional produce to create delicious and healthy salads, soups, juices, and desserts. The food was very creative and tasty. However, if you're hungry, you quickly spend a fair amount of money. The concept is essentially self-service so you feel like you're in a cafeteria, although a trendy one.

Tibits restaurants are our all time favorite all over Switzerland. It was our first night in Basel and we came here walking (thanks to google) for dinner. Though there was outdoor seating but due to cold weather everyone was indoor. We started with white wine and whiskey with Nachos. I don't know why they don't serve scotch whiskey ? The buffet spread of veg and vegan dishes was great. There were many Indian dishes. The concept of paying as per weight is good. The food was delicious. The staff was very helpful. The washroom was upstairs. While coming down, one of the staff found me struggling. He took me behind kitchen and brought me down by service elevator. Thanks a lot. The ambiance was great, totally family oriented. Don't miss it when in Switzerland...

While visiting Basel, I ate here twice in two days. I loved the inventive vegan selection and all the different choices of area to sit in. Some real thought has gone into this place (for example, types of food, no smoking outside, coat hooks, bag hooks, plug points), which is rarely seen. If I lived here nearby, I would eat here VERY OFTEN. Great service, too.

Cozy family owned restaurant, with great service and incredible food. Definitely do try the balanced Sunday 4 course menu with homemade soup, the freshest salad you’ve tasted, a broad choice of main dishes (we took the veal filet with morel sauce and the legendary cordon bleu) and homemade desserts. The incredibly skilled chef came to our table after the service for a chat and shared from his broad experience

Had been intending to visit for a while and we weren't disappointed. However, we got lucky by booking the "just after the lunch rush" slot (14:00). I think there will be times in the year where booking well in advance is a must. Mostly we went with the set menu but a few in the group went for steaks. Either way it was all top quality, but I do think you're missing a trick if you don't go for the menu (soup/salad/main/dessert). All the course were very good but, personally, the dessert really moves things to a level where the chef is doing something exceptional and giving it a personal twist. I had the Gugelhopfglace with spirit (somebody else was driving!) Yes, save some space for the last course.

Lovely quaint restaurant, with fantastic service and some of the tastiest food from the region that Basel has to offer (and the bar is high). Make sure you pay it a visit - especially in autumn, their venison is an absolute treat!

A very warming, filling and tasty meal from the 'wild' menu, with many varied components that felt like I was being given a traditional taste of the northern alps. Perfect for a rainy autumn day before heading to the airport. Service was very quick and while the place was large it felt cozy. Unassuming allotment-filled neighborhood away from the bustle of the riverside - yet accessible by bus with ease.

Wonderful place, highly recommended! My plate of veal liver with Rötsi (a typical Swiss dish) was truly delicious! There was an option to have the liver cooked in either red wine or in butter and the chef - Marcus - made a small portion of the latter as well for me to try. I liked it even more🙂 Really nice of him, he even stopped by to ask whether I had enjoyed my meal. As a cherry on top of a cake, this place is very cozy, clean, and the waiters are extremely friendly. I hope I’ll come back soon for a full portion of the butter liver😀 Thank you guys, keep up great work! I would even give you six stars but there are only five available 🙂

Lily's Maxim is a popular all-day Thai, Chinese and Indian restaurant in Kleinbasel. The menu features a mix of authentic Thai, Chinese and Indian dishes, from curries to noodles and soups. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and reasonable prices, making it perfect for diners looking for an affordable option with all the favourites covered.
We had a wonderful dining experience at Lily’s Maxim Bssel. The food was delicious — we ordered vegetarian Dim Sum, Pad Thai noodles, fish red curry, and chicken green curry, and everything was superb. The service was fast, and the staff were friendly and attentive. We also enjoyed their homemade lemonade and ginger tea, which were both refreshing. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating available. Since it was sunny, we chose to sit outside and really enjoyed our meal in the fresh air. There’s also shaded seating if it gets too hot. Highly recommended!

Disappointing experience from start to finish. The staff was inattentive, barely acknowledging me upon arrival. When I asked if the waitress spoke English, she simply passed me off to another waiter without explanation, making the whole interaction feel awkward and unwelcoming. The food didn’t make up for the poor service either. The Tom Yum soup was overpriced and tasted completely off—nowhere near the authentic flavors I was expecting CHF23 for some vegetables and vinegary water. Overall, an uncomfortable and underwhelming dining experience.
Renee L — Google review
A taste of Asian dishes prepared authentically (as close as possible) by the team is a good break from cheese and bread! The space is good, all wooden furniture with minimal work but quite spacious. I tried the vegetarian Thai curry with rice, a good Nepali drink and finished with an ice cream. The Thai curry was served hot and tasted super delicious. On the table you would find chilli pickles, flakes and sauce for that asian touch and the craving. Ice cream was okay!
Neemi T — Google review
Tried the papaya salad 'Somtam'. It was far too sweet for me and you couldn't taste the garlic (spiciness) and acidity (lime). Friendly staff tried to help and asked the chef to try again...unfortunately without success. 🫣 I was told that this variant is made because otherwise most people wouldn't like it. The consequences: Authentic Thai cuisine is out of the question. This is a pity because the Lilys used to stand for this in the past. Anyone who has been once to Thailand will open their eyes at the first bite...😅

I ordered Pad Kapao which was not delicious and was not cooked properly because it was no have Thai Basil and long Beans not spicy enough . I would give Lily’s 10 stars if I could. Everything about this restaurant is amazing. I travel to Basel often for work, I’m not sure how I only just discovered this place. My colleagues and I dined here 4 nights in a row! The atmosphere is very laid back and inviting. The service was top notch; everyone was so kind and friendly. We got to know a number of servers, and they remembered our orders and came by to chat. The food was unbelievable. Every dish ordered was so full of flavor. The food came out fast, hot, and fresh. I will be returning whenever I am in Basel.

The food is great, the location is unbeatable, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is relaxed and uncomplicated. We wanted somewhere for a relaxed Friday night dinner and decided spontaneously for Lily's. The place seemed full but the waiter easily found us a space on one of the tables. Ordering was quick and easy and with all the guests busy chatting it had that vibrant buzz that you normally only find in big cities. Lily's is now an established eatery in Basel. We first came here 15+ years ago and it just seems to get better with time. In summer there are also the outdoor tables and the large glass doors opening out onto Claraplatz which just adds to the atmosphere.

The most overpriced and ungenerous restaurant ever - they just added all the random dishes from like 5 different countries (Thai, Indian, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese…..) with the worst quality possible. I had a Tom Kha Gai and ordered a large one which is supposed to always be eaten with rice, but we had to add on rice separately. Super dry rice and overly salty soup. Spring rolls are vegetarian but they just added a bunch of noodles into it. Super odd and tasted like nothing. We ordered a Pho bowl and it was probably the only thing okay to eat. And the sakura drink was nothing different of just bare water. Not forget to mention, the staff was so rude. Disappointing!

The menu boasts an impressive variety of options, catering to all tastes—from beef and poultry to fish and game—ensuring there's something for everyone.
I really liked Rösti with salmon. My partner ordered a chicken woot fries. Both were delicious. However the meal was small and I still felt hungry. Unfortunately dessert was not an option since they were closing the kitchen in the middle of the day. It's surprising for a foreigner that all restaurants in Switzerland are closed for a few hours during the day. I guess we should get used to it ;) Servers were nice and professional and the restaurant looks amazing inside.

Beautiful restaurant with a really nice ambiance in the heart of Basel. The wait staff were extra cordial and pleasantly engaged us. The food was good but could definitely use some improvements here and there. My salad was absolutely delicious- fresh and crisp with just the right amount of dressing. My pork tenderloins were very good and I loved the apricot "stuffing". The gravy was not nearly enough and my potatoes should have been cooked for 8 minutes longer. Portion sizes are on the small side. Overall, a nice visit.

The food was great but not very impressive. Definitely need to try their tapas-like starters and chicken on puff pastry. The bread that they serve at the beginning with the spread was very nice. Service was great and price of food was not bad (not expensive in Basel but very expensive when comparing it with the food in London, which is also expensive to some).

It's unfortunate that a place where you can eat good food for fair prices (by Swiss standards) had such a mediocre staff. We waited for 15 minutes before we got asked what to drink and we waited more than 20 minutes just to pay our bill. The flamkuchen was really good, the cocktail we got (caiprinha) was not. Walliser Kanne is a renowned Swiss restaurant located in Basel, offering a classic and elegant setting with an outdoor terrace. It is celebrated for its traditional Swiss cuisine, including a wide variety of Valais specialties and gourmet classics. One of its iconic features is the preparation of Wiener schnitzel at the table using the original recipe. The restaurant also offers three different types of fondue: moite-moite, porcini mushroom, and champagne.
This restaurant is a super authentic spot, where the traditional atmosphere immediately captivates you. The service is excellent, with friendly and attentive staff meeting every need. The high-quality wines and the very delicious fondue create a perfect combination for an unforgettable gastronomic experience.

In the bustling walking streets of old town Basel there’s a dizzying array of dining options. We chose this for its traditional Swiss cuisine. We had the schnitzel with pork instead of veal with noodles and the perch with boiled potatoes. The side salad was extra. Add a beer and the total was easily over a 100 CHF. Our server was friendly with a gentleman’s sense of humor. This is a good place for outdoor dining and people watching. Food is good.

The food was lovely and delicious. Dinging a star for them not serving tap water. (Feels like an unnecessary money grab.) The venison was perfect for a chilly, rainy fall day. A very generous portion of everything, and beautiful plating.

We wanted to experience Swiss fondue. We were not disappointed. Had the original Wiener schnitzel and cheese fondue (ordered just for 2 people even as a party of 4 - it was plenty of food). They have bar seating (great for just stopping to have a drink) and offer outdoor dining.

Amazing food and excellent service. For dinner we had fondue, raclette and steak. Everything was delicious! Special thanks to Jelena, her great service made our night very special!
CLAUDIA B — Google review
I was recommended to visit this restaurant for traditional Swiss cuisine by a few locals. My friend and I came here for lunch. The place is located in the heart of Basel, right on one of the main promenades, so it was quite busy that day, mostly with tourists. The restaurant has a big indoor area, plus outdoor seating. We decided to sit inside to enjoy its classic Swiss design and cozy vibe. You can sense the historic charm in the atmosphere, but everything inside was still well maintained and spotlessly clean. Our waiter was very nice and helpful – he gave us tips about Swiss food and recommended a couple of dishes from the menu. The menu,by the way, wasn’t very big, and it focused on traditional Swiss classics. We decided to share two dishes: Wienerschnitzel and Cheese Fondue (Käsefondue). The food came out quickly, within about 15 minutes. The pork schnitzel was flavorful and tender, with a perfectly enjoyable texture. We chose French fries as the side, and they were cooked really well. But the star of our lunch was definitely the Cheese Fondue – absolutely delicious! The cheese they used was incredibly rich and flavorful, and the fresh bread served with it was also tasty. Dipping the bread into the melted cheese made it a truly delightful experience. Both dishes were generous in size and more than enough for two people. The only negative about this restaurant is the prices, which are extremely high. The Cheese Fondue cost 38 CHF (about $48) PER PERSON, and the Wienerschnitzel was 40 CHF (about $50). Even though the food was excellent, I found these prices far too steep. The soft drinks we ordered were also expensive – 6 CHF ($8) for a cup of black tea or a Diet Coke. I’m from Miami, where restaurants are pricey too, but not this expensive, so even I was shocked when we got the final bill. Finalizing my review, I can say that I loved every part of my experience at the restaurant except the prices. It’s definitely not a place I could afford to eat at every day (like I do in many restaurants in Miami, since I don’t cook), but I still recommend checking this restaurant at least once for the experience – to try truly delicious Swiss food. Trust me and order the Cheese Fondue for sure!

I've eaten three times over the past years and overall its a good experience - reliable and no surprises. This time we were a group of eight and sat outdoors - lots of seating area here and plenty of umbrellas to avoid the punishing June sun. Despite the large group our meals and drinks arrived quickly and no one seemed disappointed. I had the calabrese (sauce, cheese, spicy salami) and it was okay. A bit bland and I would have liked to try something a bit more interesting - but I could not read the Italian menu very effectively so went for what looked easy. Overall a nice meal and place to enjoy a drink. As mentioned it was the third time visiting and had no qualms about returning.

Pretty good pizza, not the best I’ve tried and a bit pricey but better than other options. The tuna was a bit fishy and could have been better, the Napoli pizza with sardines was very good. I loved the taste of the mozzarella. They are very fast and the staff is very friendly, they speak English. A pity they run out of tiramisu at 8.30pm on a Friday night and we could not try it

I recently visited this Italian restaurant in the heart of Basel, which specializes in pizza. While the prices are on the higher side, the food quality is truly outstanding. The staff is friendly, but there's room for improvement in terms of their warmth and hospitality. The ambiance inside the restaurant is just fine, nothing too extraordinary, but it's a comfortable setting for a meal. A noteworthy point is that reservations are only available for groups of 10 or more, which could be limiting for smaller gatherings. However, as there aren't many tables available, it's understandable. Payments can be made through credit/debit cards, as well as cash. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and has a baby changing room, which is a plus for families with young children. The washrooms are quite old and could use an update, but they're functional. Their speciality, fried pizzas, didn't impress me much, and I wouldn't recommend them. However, the rest of the menu offers high-quality, delicious Italian fare that's worth a try. Overall, this cozy Italian pizza gem in Basel is a good spot to enjoy a tasty meal, but there's room for some improvements in service and ambiance.

With a manageable menu and daily specials, guests can savor dishes like veal cutlets with fried potatoes and wild pepper jus. The intimate space exudes charm, featuring nooks and crannies to explore while enjoying freshly prepared meals.
Amazing service and great dishes in the courtyard in old Basel.

What a disappointment! We ordered a salad for a starter and a main course of fish. The salad was ok, nothing special. The fish came cold, and row I returned it to the kitchen. It came after a while and was still row in the middle. It is unfortunate to see the same fish served at the same table, which was different. The Basmati rice was half cooked. The taste of the fish and the rice was blant, no flavour at all. The service, was unprofessional. I did not expect this from this restaurant. I have been in this restaurant since we moved to Basel. Thank god they did not charge me for my fish.

A wonderful place with great service. The charming patio offers a bit of coolness on a hot day. Unfortunately, we were probably unlucky with the food – out of five people, four received heavily oversalted dishes (steaks and lamb), and the gazpacho had nothing to do with a proper gazpacho – watery, lacking blended bread, and with no noticeable garlic flavor.

For my boyfriends birthday, we came here for a dinner yesterday. It was a wonderful surprise that they accomodated this special event with a special table secluded from the rest of the restaurant, ideal for a romantic dinner for 2. They even prepared a little gift and a note. We had the steak and lamb menu - both perfectly done to our taste. They have a huuuuge wine selection! and a very interesting palette of starters. Service was also perfectly executed.

The starter and the main dish were delicious! A lot of different flavors, a very nice combination. The meat was tender and melting in the mouth, and was accompanied with a delicious sauce and puree. The service is quick and competent. I am very pleased by that. Only negative thing, with all honestly, The dessert is awful. I didn't even finish it, I ate only one bite and it was enough. It is such a shame as it is the last part of the meal. Nevertheless, I would recommend this restaurant for its various starters and dishes, but not for the dessert.

Exceptional restaurant. I tried the steak. It was tender and flavourful cooked to perfection, with a very good Chianti. The waitress was extremely friendly and very professional. The setting is excellent for romantic dinner or professional gatherings. Apparently you can buy paintings on site.

Nice place. Presentation of dishes is excellent. The quality is quite good, but the steak was a bit small and not flavored well. Service decent but not amazing.

Schlüsselzunft is a historic guildhall turned into an elegant dining room, known for its traditional ceramic stove and charming atmosphere. The restaurant offers Swiss-international cuisine with vegetarian, fish, and meat options complemented by interesting sides and sauces. Housed in the oldest guildhall in Basel, it caters to both casual diners and those seeking gourmet experiences. The menu features dishes like homemade ravioli stuffed with garlic and black angus filet steak with potato hash browns.
Lovely experience and ambiance. It's a must if you're in Basel. For me, this was the best thing in Basel. Lucianne (Lulu) was amazing. The food was exquisite. We will be back just to nosh.

Dined here two days in a row due to the wonderful quality of the food and the very warm and welcoming service. Both times, the food was of a very high standard and super tasty. The interior of the building is stunning and very inviting. Highly recommend!

Unfortunately it was covered in plastic and scaffolding. The food was OK. Although see other reviews not as good as other places I dined at. The food which came off the menu beforethe starter and afterthe dessert-the petit fours were delicious. The Venison chipolata | Caponata | Scamorza cheese | Bacon-Thyme foam soup was good. Duo of wild duck | Autumn polenta | Cowberries | Brussels sprouts | Chestnuts would have been good apart from the Chestnuts were too like marron glace too sweet if they had done just roasted Chestnuts it would have worked. They served wine from giant bottles which were too gimmickry for me. So if they didn't peer pressure you when you first came in to have a glass of red wine from the massive bottle I would have enjoyed it more.

The food is incredible! Slowly served in the European fashion. There was NOT one bad bite and worse, my wife wouldn’t let me lick the plate. Services is European (letting you enjoy your food without bothering), but quick to help if you have questions. Top notch. From a dumb American, try it. You will not be disappointed! Wish I could give 10 stars

Great quality food! We ordered their set menu and they came with different degrees of flavor and strength. They have menu for vegetarians or pescetarians as well! I went there three times on special occasions especially with friends and families when they have their birthdays. The staff were very friendly and made sure to chat with us. Great Swiss hospitality indeed! 😍 😍 😍

Wonderful dining experience in a historical setting, yet the restaurant didn't lose its touch on modernizing itself. From the manager to waiters/waitresses, everyone was courteous and kind. The main dishes here today are the white asparagus soup and beef fillet with potatoes. The meal ended with two pieces of sweets, which are not too sweet and on point!

1777 Kaffee Restaurant is a low-key bistro with classic burgers and Mediterranean options. It's named after the year the Stiftung der Gesellschaft zur Beförderung des Guten und Gemeinnützigen was founded, which also owns the Schmiedehof property where 1777 Kaffee resides. In an urban setting with retro charm, you can enjoy delicious coffee inspired by Vienna café culture.
A great concept - you can build your own salad, burger or sandwich. You choose the bread, main protein, sides etc. The burgers we tried tasted delicious and the service was great too. 10/10 recommend!

Really nice cozy place in inner street. Food was okay, burger patty was cooked well, the bun was a bit too crispy, which was unexpected..
Tatjana K — Google review
Not bad but could be better. Bun too hard/crispy and big compared to the meat patty which could be bigger. Also the bacon was too little. The burger lacked some flavour which could improve if the patty was thicker and it was cooked longer. The potato chips were good but for my taste they could be cut thinner for crunchiness. The service is friendly (they made a mistake with the order but I’m not considering this) and professional. The place and atmosphere is pretty cool, seems tricky to find as it’s in a hidden square. They also have outdoor sitting. The homemade ice tea did not have sugar and I appreciate that (not common practice). Overall I would not go back for a burger as the value for money is not justified for me, but open to other options or a drink

Excellent burgers, great choice as you can “build“ your own burger. Very nice staff. Quick service. Cosy place. Outdoor seating. Centrally located. However charging 1chf per glass of tap water is a bit too much: charging once is OK, but we had a second round of tap water and were charged each 1chf again :( ...

I love the inner court. Take an apero outdoors and then eat indoors or whatever pleases you. Their specialty is something else, which is worth another post and it is quite trending. But in this post I want to speak about the marvelous burgers and options they have. Go there and try for yourselves. The 1777 burger is my favorite and if you are like me I eat the burger, I do not need the fries. They come as an optional side, so there is no way around it. Focus on the burger. The only modification that I do to it is that you ask for the bunny of the vegan burger, which is some kind of wholewheat bun. The place is on a first view interesting but a bit blunt, but the overall experience for most of the people I talked to like it extremely. It's kid friendly, it requires you to book ahead, as it is relatively small.

Selen G — Google review
First thing to note here: It's an expensive restaurant. Second thing to note: I don't think I've ever been so mad at the food while I'm eating it. It honestly feels like them disrespecting their own food. Starting from the good part because I'll rant for a quite bit later on. The service was the only thing that is carrying the score for me, which is quite sad to experience, I was guided to my table very nicely despite it being quite full. Coleslaw and french fries were alright but none of them fit to their price range. Now to the bad parts. Starting from the top, the buns were the lowest tier of buger buns i've ever had. very breakable. The patty was very hard to cut even with fork and knife. if you try to bite into it the whole burger just breaks apart as all the ingredients gets squeezed to the sides while the buns fall apart. You can clearly smell and see that the patty wasn't hand/home made, which is something I'd at least expect at a price range like this. The burger was actually worse than a 8$ fully industrialy processed burger i can buy from the street. None of the food outshined in any way and in total: burger+fries/coleslaw/a beer i paid over 54.- just to get disrespected by their food. I was there during dinner so you'd expect a lot people. But I didn't expect it to be louder than a McDonald's. It's as if they are trying to rush you away with this ambient so they can get more customers. I haven't tried their other meat variants yet but from what I saw the size is quite sad compared to the other restaurant i reviewed (Schindler Frohsinn) which is also meat focused, about the same price range. I don't plan on changing this rating nor do I plan on coming back again unless I'm forced to by family or friends, then I'll review again.

Nestled in the heart of Basel's Old Town, Gifthüttli is a cozy and rustic restaurant known for its hefty local dishes and a wide selection of beer and wine. Despite its name, which references an early 20th-century promotion about off-brewery beer being poisonous, this charming spot offers a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The restaurant has been in operation for hundreds of years and has a proud history. The dining room has lots of character and the patio has umbrellas and is large and spacious. Menu is multi-lingual. My order included 2 draft beers from their extensive beer menu, a side of spatzi potatoes (a rather large order and a dish made of dark bread soaked in white wine and baked with lots of cheese (kind of a grilled cheese sandwich). Everything was tasty and sufficient for 2 people. The bill was SF49.80.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The schnitzel tasted simply delicious. I also tried the apple ring dessert, and it was so good I finished it in seconds. Even the coffee stood out; it was so rich and flavorful, I felt like I’d been transported to Italy for a moment. The atmosphere is another highlight. I really appreciated the old rustic charm, which made for a peaceful and cozy Sunday lunch. It wasn’t crowded when I visited, but I’d recommend reserving a table just in case—larger groups do come here, and it might be harder to find a spot sometimes. The staff were friendly and welcoming. After my meal, I stayed at my table for a while to relax, and the waiters were kind enough not to rush me or make me feel like I had to leave. If I could suggest one improvement, it would be to add some sauerkraut, bratwurst, and knödel to the menu. I know it’s not part of the local cuisine, but it would’ve been a great addition and something I’d personally love to eat. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be coming back!

Went there for a family dinner. Dinner was nice. They also have 1 vegan option which was also pretty okay. I don’t understand why they don’t have a vegan cordonbleu made from fake meat but a vegetarian option is always better than non. But for this price I would have expected a bit more. The others had meat options which was apparently really delicious but once again to pay +30 chf WITHOUT a side is a more than expensive. Now to the drinks: we paid more fore 1l of still water than for a glass of wine which is just NOT understandable. I understand that this restaurant is rather pricey also considering the quality of the food. But to charge 10.50.- for still water is just Kriminal at this point. Ambiente was okay, very rustical and traditional kitchen. Experience was okay, wouldn’t go a second time tho. So if you want a very overpriced meal in the best cordonbleu- restaurant in Basel, go for it and tick it off you bucket list.

An excellent little restaurant with some very creative takes on Cordon Bleu! Great service, great food. It is pricey (like most restaurants in Switzerland!) and it's smoking friendly which might be an issue for non-smokers. At the end of the day, I did enjoy my visit.

A lovely restaurant! We went on a Friday evening and had the set mystery menu. The options for vegetarians were lovely and the meat-eaters were very happy too. We had a work event at Viertelkreis and rented it out just for us. Hence, we had a set vegetarian and non-vegetarian menu. Food: We started with a mushroom arachino accompanied with a savoury light mushroom sauce and fresh herbs. A wonderful surprisingly light start to our meal. It was followed by a filet of salmon perfectly cooked and surrounded by thinly sliced fennel bedded on a sweet potato mousse. As a main we were served a mouthwatering juicy lamb fillet and a stacked potato and beetroot ratatouille. This was followed by a variety of savoury cheeses and chocolate mousse as well as tiramisu in a small pot as dessert. We experienced a fresh, tasty and well balanced meal. Staff: Amazing and efficient. Lovely and attentive at all times. Tanja made me a lovely variation of a Lady Old Fashioned which I enjoyed at lot. The service was flexible and very accommodating. Overall: Good food, good wine, very nice staff, good location.

Very surprised about this location. Been there for a birthday meal, it was top from beginning to the end. Queerbeet starters were the highlight foodwise, so tasty and refined. A shoutout to our server who was simply outstanding. Perfect knowledge of food and beverage, high English speaking skills, an example how it should be done.

A charming spot just by the water with lovely and helpful staff. The selection of food is rather limited to basically one of each standard animal you would expect to find in a restaurant and one or two vegetarian options. I rather enjoyed all that was on offer but I could imagine a world where I want some beef that is not of the Stroganoff variety and end up being discontent. Today was certainly not that day so I enjoyed the meal and would certainly come back to try other things from their menu.

We were out 5, trying all appetizers (my favorite was the bone with the marrow), then beef, vegetarian and fish dishes. All were really good. Bottled wine can be as cheap as 54 francs, water filtered but comes at cost. Portions are small but filling. Many Spritz available, not just the usual Gespritzter Wein and Aperol. We were sitting on the terrace, great view. Bit noisy from the street, but not disturbing. Service was excellent, by a lovely young waitress.

It used to be one of my favorite places in town, but sadly not anymore. The menu is now very limited, and everything is hugely overpriced, even by Swiss standards. The food is okay, but nothing special. It tries to come across as fancy and sophisticated, but the quality is often mediocre (though one salad was very good). The only real upside left is the location—right on the riverbank—but it can get quite noisy. At these prices, you can find truly fancy places nearby that offer top-quality food and a much better overall experience. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll be coming back.

The Italian restaurant Ristorante Da Roberto is a great place to go for a familiar Italian menu served in a relaxed and welcoming space. The prices are fair, and the atmosphere is great. The only thing that they could improve is the desert.
The same great italian cuisine but with a better central location and new outdoor tables. We used to visit the restaurant when it was in front of Basel SBB and are glad to see the staff, the décor and the high standards remain. The pizza base and toppings are delicious. Everything is freshly prepared and the pizzas are cooked in an authentic wood-fired oven. Great for a business lunch or a family treat.

This served its purpose for a quick bite before heading out to a performance. It’s in the midst of old town and on a corner. We shared a salad and pizza. Both were ok. Know that when paying by credit card they don’t allow you to bypass leaving a tip.

Most Italian restaurants behave as if they are the best in town just because they are Italian. And that arrogance can extend to judging their customers taste too. But a simple basket of bread can humble their reputation and disappoint the customer. And that's exactly what happened. The moment the bread basket was laid on the table, I knew it will be an average experience at a not-so-average price.

I strongly recommend to have a lunch in DaRoberto. Today we ate one of the most delicious pizza here in Basel at 13:30. The restaurant is well located in the center of the city; perfect place to recharge the “battery“ and to visit the rest of the city.

When you find a restaurant that shares your name, you know you have to give it a try. However, I was disappointed I did. Da Roberto is in a great location in the city of Basel and the food was tasty, however, I don't think they served what I consider "Robert" sized portions. The Calzone I ordered was one of the smallest I've ever eaten in an Italian restaurant and it was very doughy for almost the first inch and a half (3.81cm*) inwards. Serving it on such a massive plate may have added to the effect, but I didn't feel full after eating either. My dear wife ordered the lasagne which I thought had some nice flavours, however it again was on the small side (maybe about 9 square inches / 58.06 sqcm). Thankfully, my dear wife dislikes bread so I ate all four complimentary bread rolls which were filling, though unremarkable. My dear wife though had to eat a bag of crisps for a snack an hour later to fill full. Yes, we could've ordered a second course of food, but have you seen the prices in Basel? Although Da Roberto is on paper reasonably priced, this seems to be at the expense of portion size in our experience. Lastly, the restaurant said they would not give us a jug of tap water (our go to drink) and we had to by a bottle of still water - despite the fact the table to our immediate right was served a jug of water. In conclusion: nice location, nice atmosphere but underwhelming overall and would most likely try somewhere else next time in Basel (once I've remortgaged to be able to afford to). Note: all dimensions provided are approximate - I left my tape measure in the hotel!

I had fake snails!! because of good reviews & being the restaurant’s specialty but they were nothing special except an overpriced dish with 6 very small cubes of beef in a garlic butter sauce like Escargot’s + a big load of fries. Restaurant Fiorentina Basel offers a wonderful atmosphere, especially when the weather is nice and you can enjoy the balcony next to the river Rhein. The food is flavorful and colorful, with some dishes receiving high praise such as Caprese salad, Tagliatelle with meat, and lasagna. The staff are attentive and friendly, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. While the portion sizes are generous, making it difficult to choose due to their size, the overall experience is highly recommended.
The restaurant offers a very diverse menu, including a great selection of meats. Both the indoor and outdoor areas are very cozy and welcoming. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and the service was excellent.

Very nice restaurant with lovely terrace. A nice variety in the menu. All dishes are very nicely prepared. A good wine list. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Come with patience since the food can take some time when it’s very crowded.

The terrace has a very romantic atmosphere and is the perfect spot for a date, with a wonderful view of the Rhine. That said, the tables are quite close together, so you can easily hear other people’s conversations, which might be a drawback if you value privacy. We ordered paccheri with shrimp, a margherita pizza, and cocktails. The food was decent, but nothing extraordinary — I’d rate it as average in terms of food quality.

Fiorentina is a great choice for upscale Italian food with a great view of the Rhine river. Wide selection of meat and vegetarian dishes, including pizza from the wood-fire oven. All dishes were delicious, flavorful, and freshly made. Friendly and accomdating staff.

The pizza restaurant Pizzeria Ristorante Molino Basel in Basel serve up some of the best pizzas around. They have a variety of toppings to choose from and always make sure their pizzas are cooked to perfection. The staff is friendly and professional and will make you feel right at home. If you're looking for a delicious Italian meal then this is the place for you!
Food was very good and atmosphere was great. However they wouldn’t allow us to change tables to be in the shade. Several vacant tables were available for the entire time we were there.

I recently dined with my friends..and had a rather unusual experience. While the service was generally polite, there were a couple of points that left me a bit disappointed. Firstly, I ordered a pizza that unfortunately didn't meet my expectations. It seemed to have very little cheese, which is a key component for me. When I inquired about it, I was informed that the cook had to leave unexpectedly, leading to the pizza being prepared quickly. While I appreciate the honesty, the quality of the pizza suffered as a result. Secondly, I was surprised to find an extra charge on my bill for the cheese, despite the limited amount that was actually present. I understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise in a restaurant setting, and I appreciate the waiter's polite explanation. However, I feel that the pizza's quality and the extra charge didn't align with the overall dining experience I was hoping for. I hope this feedback can be used to ensure better consistency in the future.

We were here on a Sunday for lunch. The staff was very kind and efficient, and friendly. They brought very quickly the pizza for our 3 year old son. The pizza dough is really nice and not too salty, which we found good also for our kid. The ingredients seemed all fresh. Coffee was also really good!

The food is good , reasonable prices. I was here with 12 colleagues , all enjoyed their meal and agreed to come back again. We had an excellent , friendly waiter who knew exactly and was prepared what to do , as we all paid separately . Service was very good. We had a reservation since we were a large group but generally they can find a table for you as the restaurant is fairly large.

An unforgettable dinner experience! The hospitality at Royal Palace was truly outstanding – the staff welcomed us warmly and made us feel right at home. The food was incredibly flavorful and authentic. The butter chicken was rich and very delicious, perfectly paired with soft, buttery naan. The mango lassi was refreshing and a must-try! We were also delighted by the complimentary salad – such a thoughtful gesture that added to the homely vibe. Every bite reflected the love and tradition of Indian cuisine. Huge thanks to the wonderful team for their kindness and excellent service. We’ll definitely be back soon!

Best Indian food available in Royal Palace,Basel! I’ve ordered other Indian restaurants before, but this is truly the best Indian food I have ever tried.I ordered Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Naan, and Chicken Curry to deliver at my residence. Everything was absolutely delicious, authentic, and full of flavor. The food arrived right on time, and the price was fair as well. I’ve also tried ordering through Uber Eats before, but the delivery was delayed. Ordering directly from the restaurant was a much better experience — punctual and perfect. Highly recommend!

Good Indian food at a reasonable price. We had 5 dishes which we shared and had a bit of leftovers to take home in a doggy bag provided by the very friendly staff.

I was a loyal customer for 6 years, despite inconsistent food. Yesterday, they crossed a line. My husband went to pick up our order, and staff assumed he was an Uber driver, telling him to fetch his Uber bag solely because he is Black. And for the ignorant who’ll try to justify it by saying, “maybe he looked like one because he was dressed similarly,” he was in smart pants and leather loafers. They’ve seen him with me many times before, but I guess they also think all Black people look the same. This is racial profiling, and I won’t support it.

Restaurant Löwenzorn, also known as "lion's fury," is a popular dining spot in the historical area near Marktplatz in Basel. Despite its intimidating name, it offers traditional Swiss dishes in a charming rustic setting. The building has a rich history dating back to 1327 and was once owned by the Mitz family, former mayors of Basel. Today, it is an elegant restaurant with friendly multilingual staff and quick service.
It wasn't my first visit to this restaurant, but it was definitely memorable this time again, especially since I had a larger group of ten people with me. Half of them were from the other side of the globe, from Australia. This restaurant is one of the best in Basel, offering exceptional food, a special friendly atmosphere, and an ideal central location. Highly recommended for expats, tourists, and visitors!

Great place to try good quality Swiss beef. The veal schnitzel was perfectly cooked and the accompanying vegetables were so flavourful and roasted to perfection. I'd be eating here every day of it was not so expensive 🫰
Ava ( — Google review
The service was very kind and even spoke English but sadly we can’t give it more than 3 stars as the value for money was not justified and food was forgettable. We had two types of sausages (white and standard) and the broccoli in vinaigrette. They could improved it with better pretzel and bread, and with some nice butter. The rosti could be done better too (potatoes more caramelised). We liked that they offered locally brewed beer though. Would go again if right occasion came
Jessica S — Google review
Restaurant Löwenzorn is such a popular local restaurant that it's always full !!! During summer they let customers sit outside at their courtyard, a very relaxing dining environment. Ordered one of their specials, Vitello Tonnato, which is cold roast beef served with tuna sauce, you know what, this is one of the perfect chemistry I've ever had in my mouth, with the decorations of capers in the mix of flavors, OMG, you have to order this dish !!! I will definitely look forward to come here again during winter to sit in the indoor dining area of this almost 600 years old historical landmark, a lovely traditional swiss wooden decorated place.

Guaranteed to be one of the best Thai food spots in Basel! The restaurant has a cozy ambiance, with very efficient service and professional staff. Popular Thai Restaurant in Klein Basel. The restaurant was really busy and you definitely need to reserve a table in advance. The food was descent, it wasn’t spiced enough in my opinion, like it was very toned down. The pakooras were a bit too oily in my opinion and especially the veg biriyani wasn’t special,it tasted almost like plain rice. The service is descent, they seemed a bit clumsy but they weren’t rude or anything and the interior is nothing special, pretty average. We went for dinner and around 19:15 it got so loud you could barely hear your company talking. And it’s quite pricey.

During our initial time in Basel, I searched for an Indian restaurant in the neighborhood. Indian Tandoori Palace popped up in search with good reviews, and we decided to give it a try. We went to this place during our birthday party. No doubt that it had such a high rating. The food was awesome here. It was so tasty that we couldn't resist ourselves from coming back again. We tried 7-8 curries from non-vegetarian menus, and all of them were delicious, finger-licking. They have lot of varieties for vegetarian as well. What added sugar coating to it is the super friendly behavior of the staff and hospitality. I'll highly recommend it for Indian Cuisine in Basel and will definitely visit again and again!

Restaurant Safran Zunft Basel is a Swiss fine dining establishment located in a historical guild house with tall arched ceilings and murals. I visited Restauration zur Harmonie in September 2025 and had a reasonably good experience. There was minimal seating inside but was able to secure an outdoor table. This area of Basel is quite beautiful and its a serene and comfortable place to enjoy a meal. I had the rosti with fried eggs - was debating between that and the rosti with raclette cheese and wish I'd chosen the latter instead. The meal was fine - nothing wrong with it, just a little bland and the eggs were fairly well done so there wasn't much yolk to mix in the with the rosti. I had a veal sausage on the side and it certainly is not among the best I've had in the city. The establishment itself is rather quaint inside and is a perfect example of the kind of beautiful experience that makes Basel and Switzerland such an amazing place to visit.

We went there with my partner a few days ago and honestly we didn't appreciate the service and atmosphere. Event though the restaurant looked super cute and the first waiter was very warm, the lady that served our food and took our order was very pushy and insisting on doing everything suuuuper fast. She seemed very upset and angry at anyone she was serving and made a lot of noise collecting the plates and forks etvc from the tables. We rushed into eating our overpriced potatos and cheese in half an hour, but eventhough we know that switzerland is very expensive, it didnt make so much sense to eat a single plate of rosti with cheese at 28.5 francs plus 2.5 for tap water... If the atmosphere was better i wouldnt mind the price that much.

The food was very tasty and the waiter was very friendly and explained to us the brewing process (which happens behind the restaurant). This meant we had really nice beer and were even given a tasting of the beers they brew locally. The only thing I can complain about is the price, but the costs are very transparent even on the menu at the door.

A rather mediocre and underwhelming experience with decent but bland food. The restaurant staff was very friendly, but seemed rather overwhelmed and not in control of the situation, sometimes not even responding to us asking for a refill. They forgot about our table reservation and offered it up to a spontaneous walk-in group, while leaving us with the choice of splitting up or squeezing in tight. The food was decent, but way to overpriced for what it was and felt rather bland (Might be my personal preference though, cause I enjoy good seasoning). Meat wasn’t medium and instead done and on some parts randomly rare, while the herb butter was a frozen chunk. Portions were adequate, but some of the plates we received were dirty. All in all not a bad experience but I will not go again and definitely not recommend it to any of my friends.

The welcoming staff and attentive service further enhance the dining experience. Despite its concise menu, Bel Etage offers intriguing culinary options. During our recent visit, we had the privilege of being among the first to sample their new seasonal menu. The Mushroom Ravioli with leek and the veal were particularly exceptional, showcasing the restaurant's culinary expertise and creativity. Overall, Bel Etage is a culinary gem that should not be missed when visiting Basel.

Was here for the last official dinner of the year for our working group. The restaurant has a traditional and elegant feel to it, with wooden flooring. We had a 3 course dinner consisting of salad, main course and dessert plate. The main course was the veal escalope with pepper sauce, tagliolini and zucchini. The veal was soft, juicy and delicious. The dessert plate plate was good and refreshing. But italians might find the tagliolini a tad overcooked and soft. Overall, an enjoyable experience. Very good for fine dining

Visited the restaurant back in November (menu has changed since then). Warm and quaint interior. The service was delightful, both waitresses were very eager and helpful. The dishes were tasty, although a bit simplistic, and thus I’m ambivalent about the michelin star. However it is a fine restaurant by swiss standards and the value for money is unbeatable.

In the restaurant pretending to be "Michelin" they add white wine to the glass even though it's not empty yet. The kitchen is good but the waiters are not well trained.

Service was really good. They catered for my fructose intolerance right down to the smallest detail and gave me different options without reservation. The food was very tasty especially the tuna tartate. Highly recommend

Absolutely delicious and stunning food. Not a single fault to complain about. Truly exceptional. The service was also very kind but seemed a bit incompetent and slow when it came to splitting the bill.
