This is the place, where you get probably the most famous cookies from Basel. They are called Basler Läckerli, kind of a ginger bread but delicious. If you pass by in Basel you have to try these cookies.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The schnitzel tasted simply delicious. I also tried the apple ring dessert, and it was so good I finished it in seconds. Even the coffee stood out; it was so rich and flavorful, I felt like I’d been transported to Italy for a moment. The atmosphere is another highlight. I really appreciated the old rustic charm, which made for a peaceful and cozy Sunday lunch. It wasn’t crowded when I visited, but I’d recommend reserving a table just in case—larger groups do come here, and it might be harder to find a spot sometimes. The staff were friendly and welcoming. After my meal, I stayed at my table for a while to relax, and the waiters were kind enough not to rush me or make me feel like I had to leave. If I could suggest one improvement, it would be to add some sauerkraut, bratwurst, and knödel to the menu. I know it’s not part of the local cuisine, but it would’ve been a great addition and something I’d personally love to eat. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be coming back!

Went there for a family dinner. Dinner was nice. They also have 1 vegan option which was also pretty okay. I don’t understand why they don’t have a vegan cordonbleu made from fake meat but a vegetarian option is always better than non. But for this price I would have expected a bit more. The others had meat options which was apparently really delicious but once again to pay +30 chf WITHOUT a side is a more than expensive. Now to the drinks: we paid more fore 1l of still water than for a glass of wine which is just NOT understandable. I understand that this restaurant is rather pricey also considering the quality of the food. But to charge 10.50.- for still water is just Kriminal at this point. Ambiente was okay, very rustical and traditional kitchen. Experience was okay, wouldn’t go a second time tho. So if you want a very overpriced meal in the best cordonbleu- restaurant in Basel, go for it and tick it off you bucket list.

An excellent little restaurant with some very creative takes on Cordon Bleu! Great service, great food. It is pricey (like most restaurants in Switzerland!) and it's smoking friendly which might be an issue for non-smokers. At the end of the day, I did enjoy my visit.

Wonderful dinner in a lovely setting. We sat outside and enjoyed an enormous piece of vienerschnitzel. What a bonus to know they can accommodate gluten free clients with an authentic dish! Staff were great and very helpful.

Stopped in for a late lunch. Great place. Traditional atmosphere. My husband and I shared a classic Veal cordon blue, au gratin potatoes and a french onion soup. It was perfect. Single portion is plenty for two. My husband said it was the best French onion soup he has ever had (he does order it everywhere we go). Extensive wine list, they also have cocktails and beer on tap. Servers were prompt and so nice!

If you’re looking for an authentic Lebanese or Arab restaurant, Za Zaa - Lebanese Soul Food is not the place for you. Despite its name, this is actually a vegetarian restaurant, with only two or three Lebanese-inspired dishes on the menu. The rest of the food has little to do with Lebanese or Middle Eastern cuisine. That being said, if you’re vegetarian or vegan, you might enjoy the variety of plant-based dishes they offer. However, be prepared for high prices, as the food is quite expensive for what you get. The restaurant is also very crowded, which can make it a bit uncomfortable during peak hours. On the positive side, the staff is highly professional and quick, ensuring a smooth dining experience. If you’re specifically searching for Lebanese food, I’d recommend looking elsewhere, but if you’re open to a vegetarian menu and don’t mind the price, you might enjoy it.

Delicious food, good and nice service. One of the best Lebanese restaurants I have eaten in. Hummus is especially tasty. Make sure you reserve when you want a table on the terrace in the evening!

We were at Zazaa today for lunch and thought there would be meat, but one of the male staff treated us a little strangely and too nicely, as if we were children or because we were women. That was upsetting for us. We left the restaurant because we wanted to eat meat. The atmosphere and the other staff were nice and it also smelled good. So, this restaurant is definitely good for vegetarians.

Stumbled upon this restaurant on my way back to hotel Rochat, and the smell of food was wavering to the street. The waitresses Sam, Debbi and Laura were very warm and friendly, the food was absolutely delicious and fulfilling and the atmosphere was relaxing with the oriental decor and the little Persian style carpets. Would definitely visit again and again

I love this restaurant always visit once a month ! But when it’s a bit full the service is bad honestly asked twice for something and got ignored. Cuisine is good !

We went to eat at Zazaa with a group today. The food was okay, but a little too bland for my taste. However, the restaurant is very attractive and pretty throughout. The waiter who served us, on the other hand, was not so great. He was inattentive, didn't really take care of us and played around on his mobile phone from time to time. He was actually more interested in the female guests sitting with us. Was a bit annoying honestly… At least the other staff were very nice and friendly.

Left Without Ordering- lots of young waitstaff at the hostess station and lots of empty tables. They seated us right next to an office door that opens and closes and one person can only look at the door. We asked to move to one of the many other open two seat tables but were told that they were all reserved? Did not like his attitude. Then we realized the appetizer plate was dirty with a visible streak of something left on it. Left without ordering. I know they know we’re just tourists and that they’ll never see us again but that’s just not good business.

A charming spot just by the water with lovely and helpful staff. The selection of food is rather limited to basically one of each standard animal you would expect to find in a restaurant and one or two vegetarian options. I rather enjoyed all that was on offer but I could imagine a world where I want some beef that is not of the Stroganoff variety and end up being discontent. Today was certainly not that day so I enjoyed the meal and would certainly come back to try other things from their menu.

We were out 5, trying all appetizers (my favorite was the bone with the marrow), then beef, vegetarian and fish dishes. All were really good. Bottled wine can be as cheap as 54 francs, water filtered but comes at cost. Portions are small but filling. Many Spritz available, not just the usual Gespritzter Wein and Aperol. We were sitting on the terrace, great view. Bit noisy from the street, but not disturbing. Service was excellent, by a lovely young waitress.

Completely full but the friendly staff pointed me to a local bar and I returned later and was able to get a spot on the balcony for one. Lovely atmosphere on a glorious evening. Good wine as well.

Our plan to have a lovely lunch was rather stymied by a bit of inclement weather and the restaurant running out of food. The only items on the menu were some salads and three mains: after ordering, one of our choices disappeared. As did we, to go elsewhere. Lovely staff, and the beer was good, but sadly lunch proved to be out of our reach.

Great restaurant with great food. The waiters were amazing, friendly, smiling, and suggesting the right food. Cozy nice atmosphere inside the restaurant. Prices are matched with food quality. Must try is their homemade ice tea. Highly recommended.

It used to be one of my favorite places in town, but sadly not anymore. The menu is now very limited, and everything is hugely overpriced, even by Swiss standards. The food is okay, but nothing special. It tries to come across as fancy and sophisticated, but the quality is often mediocre (though one salad was very good). The only real upside left is the location—right on the riverbank—but it can get quite noisy. At these prices, you can find truly fancy places nearby that offer top-quality food and a much better overall experience. Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll be coming back.

I only visited the rooftop terrace, and it was absolutely lovely — great view and atmosphere. What really stood out was the service. Cyrill was the best waiter I’ve ever had! Super friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. A true professional who made us feel welcome from the start. Highly recommend!

We visited back in April and it was the ideal hotel, the service was great and the river facing rooms were large and comfortable. The location was great, sitting right on the river surrounded by restaurants and bars. I’d happily stay here again.

Spending 5 nights in Basel visiting friends. Stopped at Krafft on their recommendation and was not disappointed. I was in a Junior Suite on the opposite side of the street from the main building and it was excellent. Very well sized and everything in the room was of a high quality. The service from everyone I met was exceptional - professional but very friendly and warm. I ate lunch in the restaurant and it was very good with first class service from Marcus (?) and the wine bar is well worth a visit for some high quality wine in a relaxed environment. Will definitely return.

Great looking hotel with everything you need, but way too loud. We had the room with the view on Rheingasse not the River. Even on the second floor it sounds like people are standing in your room. The windows have zero sound isolation and people were partying till 2am in the morning and Construction began at 7am. But even without construction the normal city noise at 6am woke me up already. You can hear every word of people passing. Ontop there is no way to darken the room the curtains do absolutely nothing. In itself a nice Hotel but i can go to nice places for atmosphere during the day, but if I book a Hotel I expect to sleep well and it was impossible to do here. I couldve slept better in my car in the parking lot. Breakfast was impeccable and service on point. Rooms were clean and you could get bathroom utensils like toothbrush/paste etc on the hallway same with coffee and tea. Please install good windows and invest in something to actually darken the room.

We stayed here our last night on a twelve day trip. It was a perfect ending! We floated the Rhine with the locals all day and ate at local restaurants and got Gelato twice! The room was huge and even had a disco room! Highly recommend!

Great place for Sunday brunch, with excellent service and a good choice of food. Good quality products, salami and cheese - top. Hot dishes and cold cuts, salmon, cava, pastries - all delicious. big questions to roast beef, sorry guys, it looks great, but very hard to chew. Overall, well done colleagues, thumbs up!!!

The place looked great for lunch. Ordered Falafel for 24CHF and got 4 little slices with nothing but a little sauce. Could easily pass as little side-snack for your beer. When asked by the cashier how it was, I replied that the volume was not up to par. She ignored that. Nomad used to be the place to recommend to visitors, but it is now showing signs of decline.

The place is buzzing with people every evening, has an amazing bar and serves delicious food! Cocktails are made professionally and served rapidly. If you're a burger fan, you must try the Nomad burger. Absolutely fantastic. Could do with a little bit more sauce for the fries, nevertheless, an excellent choice.

The Sunday Brunch was absolutely wonderful! Lots of delicious dishes to choose from. Drinks incl. tea, coffee, prosecco all inclusive. Ambience cosy, live music, attentive waiters. Can definitely recommend.

Place is beautiful. Maybe I didn’t get the message of the food. The one I ordered is the fish one. It is fish with tomatoes not quite something I would expect (not understanding the German menu and didn’t ask…). Taste wise it is ok, spicy for me. It is definitely not WOW effect for me. But place is good. Nice to sit and drink and chat.

Brunch in Sundays is just super with musicians playing live from time to time. Casual lunch with friends or colleagues during business days is convenient. I recommend their Nomad Burger

Delicious food and high-quality ingredients. While the menu falls short, the few dishes are really tasty. The potatoes are incredibly delicious. The service is good and quick.

Fantastic beef (veal) pan fried, in mushroom sauce with Rosti. You can taste the butter and steak cuts so clearly, heavy but very well worth it. The three sausages were also good, but the veal is the real star here.

We enjoyed the lunch menu on a rainy day — delicious soup of the day (potato cream) really hit the spot. We also ordered one of the specials for the day which was a fabulous beef ragout. This was one of the tastiest meals that I’ve had while visiting Switzerland. I’m so glad that we stopped in.

While the food was quite tasty (the star dish was definitely the veal in sauce), I would be hard pressed to praise the service. When booking a table, there is no mention that you will have to share the table with other people. All of this would have been fine, but when the person we were supposed to share the table with arrived, the waitress took a decorative cushion and placed it on the table while we were having dinner. In my opinion, this was quite distasteful, especially when there was food on the table. The food itself would have deserved a higher rating, but unfortunately, this was one of the worst services I have ever experienced.

Good starter salad at lunch, nicely dressed. Service was good. Pasta was well cooked and the rosti was lovely and cheesy with a good quality prosciutto. In general not seasoned to my taste but salt and pepper available. Wine is reasonably priced...for Switzerland. A number of reservations which appeared not to show leaving us with a table in front of the door while the restaurant was not completely full.

The food was very authentic and tasty and the location certainly seems very historic and beautiful. Staff was welcoming and helpful even though we didn't speak the language which is not always a given. My only complaint really is the prices. We paid 40chf for some veal and rösti and 30chf for sausages and rösti. There is certainly an argument to be made for authentic preparation and quality ingredients but we could have prepared the same sausage dish for less than a third of the price using ingredients from the local Migros supermarket.

I am staying at a nearby hotel without a restaurant and wandered in to the restaurant at this hotel. I was immediately greeted and seated as a solo diner without a reservation. The staff was amazing at paying attention to when I was ready to order another drink or food, or ready to pay, I never had to try to get their attention. The food was excellent as well, especially the escargot. The interior is also so charming in both a rustic and elegant way. If you've got the budget for a lovely french meal in Basel, this is the way to go!

Beautiful room with a view of the cathedral, the hotel is up high above the town centre so no traffic noise at night. Friendly staff at reception, we also had breakfast here which was continental style, plenty of choice and lovely fresh bread. Easy access via the lift straight into the centre of town. We ate at the restaurant on our second night (it's closed on Sundays). Beautiful setting under the trees, a good quality meal, well cooked, lovely waiting staff. We would definitely stay here again, it was a perfect 2 night break on our journey to the Alps. The only problem was the lack of air conditioning in the room as we were there during a very hot week.

We loved Au Violin! It’s a lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Basel. It might slso been one of the most unique hotels where you enter through a lovely courtyard but can exit via an elevator that that takes you down approximately three floors and exits just steps from the restaurants, stores snd where the trams are located. The hotel used to be a woman’s prison and the rooms, while small are very cosy and comfortable. Ghe mansger, Mary was wonderful and we were slso impressed with the rest of the staff. Wexwere fortunate to be there during the Eurovision Song Festival!

Reviewing the restaurant. Went for lunch. The restaurant has a lovely, shady terrace. Not cheap. Delicious French food, nice wine list, and good service. I had fish and a very nice French Sauvignon Blanc.

Christian was one of the nicest, kindest and best Maitre D I have ever met. The restaurant is one of the best I have ever been in Europe. I have some serious allergies Maitre D Christian took very good care of me listened carefully. We chose and arranged our food almost together. When I visit Basel again I will make sure that I will pay a visit here. Thank you Christian for being the kindest Maitre D.

Beautiful restaurant. We sat in the garden area as the weather was very hot. They have lots of horse chestnut trees giving dappled light, along with plenty of umbrellas to shade other areas. Staff are great, food is superb. If in Basel you should definitely go - you will not be disappointed

Over many many years I have been coming here. The food is typical Swiss fare and good, good size portions as well . My only problem is they don’t have very often liver and Rösti on the menu. At one time it was the best in Basel. Love the atmosphere .. it’s special . I particular like that they even know who I am . If you have friends visiting from overseas this is the place to visit lunch or dinner

What an amazing experience! Finally, a place with authentic flavors! like a trip to Thailand. You can ask for extra spicy 🌶️ for a more authentic experience. I was very impressed! I didn’t know such a level of authenticity existed in Basel!

Frankly impressive. I think best thai food I had out of Thailand. I always brace for the worst as I love thai food so much, and most restaurants are so far away from actual thai food. We were a table of 8, took a bunch of starters and a bunch of different plates. Absolutely everything was fresh and delicious. The pad tai was crazy good. The green curry out of this world. Everything is made to order so our two guests who had a bell pepper allergy and a nut allergy were perfectly safe. Really impressed.

Excellent Thai food with satisfying portions. We tried Pad Thai with shrimps and tofu, Red Thai curry with chicken and Bai Kapao with beef. All were very delicious and mesmerizing!! The service was good and quick. We did not need a booking for a Saturday lunch but the place was almost full. Highly recommend and will be visiting soon to try the rest of the menu.

I have eaten a good Phad kaphrao! The dish was spicy however you could also ask for even spicier version! The service was efficient and fast and the portion was excellent!

I had a wonderful experience dining at Restaurant Boo at Messeplatz! The staff was very friendly and provided fast service, which made us feel welcomed and well taken care of. I ordered the Massaman Curry with planted chicken along with a side of rice noodles, while my friend had the Fried Rice with Tofu. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and filling, with authentic flavors that stood out. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy our meal. Plus, the pricing was very reasonable, especially considering the generous portion sizes. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys good Asian food. We’ll definitely be back to try more of the menu!

The highlight of this authentic Thai restaurant was the spicy peanut curry followed by the sticky rice with mango for a dessert. These two dishes will definitely be my order next time around. The downside to our visit was the service. Our table seemed to have been forgotten with us having to remind and request updates on our order frequently. Additional requests for sauce were acknowledged but not fulfilled. Then we requested the dessert menu, ordered the dishes, only for a different waiter to come around afterwards asking us for our dessert order again. The whole evening was very chaotic and we thought about leaving early more than once. Hope it’s better next time because the above-named dishes were delicious. Another side note, the appetizers, like the satay, seem slightly overpriced.

Worst fried rice of my life, wait, maybe i shouldn’t even call it fried rice. Don’t even bother to give them a try. I didn’t even know I was at a Thai restaurant, until my friend told me.

Nice Mexican restaurant 10 mins walk from the train station. We had the quesadillas and mixed tacos. Taste and flavour were good though the taco filling portions were a tad small. We found it a bit pricy though, despite being in city center. Good for a quick bite before heading off to catch the train.

Went here on a wednesday evening and it was very pleasant. We were two people and shared a sampler platter. The food was really good and our server was great! The restaurant was packed so i recommend reserving. Despite it being quite loud the atmosphere was still relaxed. Will be coming again!

Great Mexican food. We had tortilla chips with delicious salsa and guacamole; chicken burrito, chicken quesadillas, sweetcorn “ribs” and sweet potato fries. It was all super tasty. The portions were large (we couldn’t eat it all). We had a glass or two of the lovely Italian wine (Vermentino) with the meal, Super friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend.

Great size meal portions and Outside seating area. Toilets are not accessible and are outside the restaurant area. The pulled pork burrito was tastefull and the nachos with sauce + guacamole were ok.

Went there on a Tuesday evening. The place was quite full but the tables are not close to each other. So you can talk with the others easily. The service was really good. Always available and friendly. It was the first time there and they gave us good recommendations. Tuesday is tacos night. We went for it and ordered various types of tacos. All were very tasty. Good value/quality for the price. Recommended!

Great restaurant, particularly the service. Shamefully eating very little because we had a late lunch and it was me plus a child,but they sorted us out for our late joiner and our supermarket yogurts. We had our shrimp bowl (cooked at just the right level) and pork tacos (proper ground corn tacos). Would absolutely come again.

Their salsa sampler was a bomb! Loved it. All the foods were good. Just some chips - you had to be lucky for stale vs crisp ones. And beef taco was bit tough. But would definitely come back again!

The restaurant was ok. We ordered a four course menu. Like many Swiss restaurants, the food was a bit salty. But something strange happened: we ordered sparkling water. The second bottle was only half empty, but the waiter still took it away and opened a new one. We had to pay for three bottles. I found that odd.

The food was absolutely fabulous, we had so much fun and the wine pairing excelent. The staff was so nice to give us a table without reservation. It was truly an experience. The restaurant is a cute place, intimate and elegant, perfect for a date.

This place was really fabulous! We had a four course menu and every course was just perfect, special, and delicious - the meat was just on point although we were quite a large group. The outdoor seating contributed to the great atmosphere on this warm summer evening. The courses could have been served a bit quicker, but assume it took longer since we were quite a large group. We will come back!

Great, thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented and - - most importantly super tasty food lands on the table with no other option but to enjoy every bite. Been several times and each time one of the courses is standout above the rest - sometimes the dishes are a little on the salty side but overall super! The only niggle of the place are the acoustics - if something could be done there it would be perfect - and as a side note, the kitchen is in the restaurant itself - it's a pleasure to watch the team work and interact - it's apparent where the quality comes also from the fluid and convivial teamwork - thank you for bringing this restaurant to Basel :)

We had the 4-dish tasting menu, and recommend it. I didn’t like the dessert option in the tasting menu, but rest all was great. Overall a great vibe, we sat outside by the tram line and ambiance was still cozy.

It was my 2nd time here but 1st time for the other 3 guests. I love the concept and creativity of the dishes. The wines are also great! Friendly staff and English speaking as well. The only thing that bothers me is that both times I’ve gone they’re not checking Covid certificates and it’s a very small restaurant. I hope they can revise this discrepancy so we can return feeling totally safe!

Absolutely amazing food! We had the 4 course dinner which included dessert and an additional small appetizer to start. Requested wine pairings and Salvatore was happy to oblige. Each dish was perfectly balanced and a work of art. Highly recommend!

Amazing traditional Swiss/German food with strong focus on very high quality meat. Everything is or can be made gluten free. The garden outside has a very nice quiet atmosphere. Highly recommended.

My 10 years old nephew asked for raviolis that were normally a side dish. They said it was ok, and I appreciated that. They charged it CHF 34.- !! Otherwise food was excellent, just order what's on the menu or recommended. Traditional cuisine.

The price vs quality is great. The crew serving the food is was also very friendly and kind. It will definitely will become my choice of enjoying lunches. Much appreciated.

TOURISTS BE CAREFUL. Went here with parents. At end of meal, waiter asked where we were from (America) and proceeded to ask us “how much will you tip?” while he did this with none of the other tables. Switzerland and Europe tip is already included. Only asked us this trying to take advantage. Food, service, and ambience was amazing. Recommend, just be careful.

Really good service. The food was even better. By Basel standards, we thought this restaurant was a good bargain (remember we thought the food was very good :) ). Highly recommend the apps (soup, salad, bone marrow), the cordon bleu was delicious, and the lamb was impressive too! We will definitely be back.

We recently visited Switzerland and ate at McDonalds. The food was really good and warm, the staff were very friendly especially Nadeem who helped us with our order as we were not sure what to eat. Amazing chocolate that isn't presented in such a pretentious manner like the other confectionery shops in Basel. Their chocolate cakes are rich and dense, the hot chocolates are velvety and beautiful. Their own brand chocolate bars are also delicious and a reasonable price. Stayed here for 4 nights during artbasel in a capsule, for the price and for just needing a clean bed at night, it was a nice option. Its about 3 mins to the train station and 40 mins walking to the messeplatz (or 10 with the street car, no changes). . wifi was fast and worked well. For the price you can't find anything better in Basel during the fair. The capsules are surprisingly quiet (but I could imagine if you get a loud person in the rooms shared spaces or sleeping above you, it could be really unpleasant). There isn't much air circulation in the capsule when closed as others have stated, so I slept at night with the door open which was fine. The room was quiet and until morning there was no issues with parties or sounds. My major negative is that the door to the room and capsules all make a bunch of beeping sounds when opened, which can be obnoxious when people are coming in and out a bunch in short periods during the morning or night and you want to sleep. It would be great if the sound could be turned off/down. All and all I would stay again. I found the staff fast to address any issues and the common spaces were well kept and clean

Pinsa differs from the standard pizza due to having a mix of flours and being more crispy and flat than most pizzas you would normally get at a restaurant. The place allows for choice of several varieties of pinsa, among which are vegetarian and vegan choices, which can be selected most of the times by choosing the ones with a green color on the side. Of course the staff is friendly and will kindly listen / adapt most of the requests within their possibilities. For the price the quality is great, and it’s good to have different variations to try. Would be nice to see a more varied vegan choice as well (there are focaccia too to choose), but overall it’s always a good experience when we choose to eat from here. It is also possible to sit at the restaurant next to it and order the pinsa for eating there, in case you’d like to sit down and relax rather than do take away. Give it a try if you’re in Basel, just be mindful that lunch time is usually very busy!

Overall a great place to get an affordable meal in a land where seemingly nothing g is affordable. They also had the coldest beers I found in the city after staying for a week. The gyro Kabab is gigantic and is easily enough to split between two people. The only reason I have this a 4 star is due to the fact that it was hot inside both times I went.

The portions are generous and the food is delicious. You can enjoy authentic Turkish flavors at very reasonable prices for the quality.

I don't like giving bad reviews, and I try to find something positive. But the experience was horrible. "Whopper BBQ menu." The fries were over-fried, already brown, and very tough. I never give bad reviews but this has to be an exception because of just how bad eating here was. Avoid eating here at all costs. I came in just before lunch time and even though it was still early in the day, i was served with the driest chicken burger i've ever come across. It must've stayed there overnight or something because there was no way any piece of fried chicken would have dried and hardened up that quickly in a few hours. The fries were similarly overfried or simply just left on the heater too long as there was nothing but what felt like eating wooden chips. Even the chilli cheese balls were dried up and hardly edible. Genuinely no idea how the serving staff get away with serving food like this, but i would avoid this place like the plague.

The salad reminded me of a burger a bit, and I liked it! I wish I could have gotten the gherkin but they didn’t include it in the sandwich. You might need to ask for that specifically or pay extra? They have so many sizes to choose from and actually weigh the meat so I like how precise that is. We got the smallest (100g) for CHF 13.

My wife and I got Kebabs this evening and they were really good. Not only were they tasty, but they were huge compared to other Kebab shops we have been to. A huge assortment of different drinks. A simple place but a very convenient location. Friendly service with a smile - and he spoke English too.
