Urban Oyster Bar & Eatery is a trendy spot offering tapas-style dishes, ceviche fish tacos, sliders, and an array of oysters. It's a versatile dining option with a relaxed atmosphere that earned two Hats at the 2018 Cuisine Fine Food Awards. The head chef, Aaron Ballantyne, is renowned for his culinary skills.
An amazing restaurant in the heart of Nelson. A nice quiet spot for dinner. We had a few small plates to share and some yummy cocktails. A must try is the oysters (the restaurant name kind of gives it away!). The food was fusion Asian and didn't disappoint!
Charlene E — Google review
Super quiet night in Nelson when we chose to eat here. However that didn't affect the quality of the food. Was super delicious and massive portions. Super good for my coeliac wife as well. Service was excellent. Would highly recommend
Andrew D — Google review
Absolutely delicious spot in the centre of Nelson. Stopped in to enjoy the oyster happy hour and it did not disappoint. Oysters both mignonette and tempura were delicious and fresh. We also had the salmon like & beef tartar (ultimate girl dinner) and the ham hock! Wonderful atmosphere sat outside in the sun and staff were friendly and super helpful.
Hannah J — Google review
Absolutely loved this experience, I booked online in Oz a month before. Simply by reading the reviews, I thought I should also share my experience. The service was fantastic very friendly and personal. We ordered Oysters, (missed the happy hour) Natural & Tempura, we had the Crying Tiger Beef & Salmon Poke Crisps - small plates all were perfectly presented and delicious, complemented with a Malbec wine 🍷 🥰
Renae B — Google review
We had oysters and they were nice and fresh. We also ate tartar beef which was very tasty. My partner had mussels which were again worthy. I would recommend this place if you like good food.
Ján D — Google review
Had an amazing lunch here today. Friendly service, great tasting food, little bit pricey but I thought it was well worth it. Good presentation top notch, awesome selection of great tasting food, between 5 of us I think we tried almost everything on the menu. Would highly recommend and definitely go back again.
Paula S — Google review
Tapas style set menu has 5 courses. Attentive staff, nice ambience seated at the window (though you do have to perch on stools). Wonderful combinations of flavours, especially the ceviche and later the roasted stuffed kumara. The chicken was a bit chunky but filling. A top notch dining experience, thanks.
Andrew F — Google review
I ordered mussels and Fish of the day grilled Snapper peri peri spicy. I was surprised by the way the chef combined ingredients, enhanced the sweet and freshness of Fish and mussels, Western and Asian mixed like in Master chef/ Top chef, soooo delicious. Therefore, I ordered 1 more grilled Snapper and another King salmon poke crispy.... That taste I was craving so long. This is the best Eatery in Nelson to me :-)

Nestled on Wakefield Quay, the Boat Shed Cafe offers an upscale dining experience with stunning views of the harbor. The restaurant is perched over the water on stilt pilings, providing a relaxed atmosphere to savor globally influenced dishes. The menu is diverse, featuring a 'Trust the Chef' option for sharing complementary dishes selected by the chefs. Additionally, an extensive wine list from local vineyards and a variety of beers and ciders are available.
I was there in a windy and rainy day so couldn’t experience sitting outside under the sun. However, the food saved the day. All the dishes were generally good. Oysters were really fresh. The green mussels were a bit salty. Staffs were friendly and caring.
Uyen ( — Google review
Lovely restaurant and had a great experience overall. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a pleasant ambience that makes it perfect for a relaxed meal. The seating area is spacious and comfortable, but the best spot by far is the back deck it offers a stunning view of the sea, making it an ideal place to unwind and enjoy your meal. The food was generally good and satisfying. I tried a few of dishes, and most were well-prepared and flavourful. However, the chowder was a bit underwhelming compared to others restaurant I’ve had elsewhere , it lacked the depth and richness I was expecting. Would definitely recommend this spot for the views and overall dining experience!
Arjun B — Google review
We ate in the conservatory overlooking the water. Recommend when you book you ask for this best place to view the goings on in the harbour. Good food selections lovely vegetable side dishes
Karin H — Google review
Absolutely outstanding experience! We ordered 18 oysters, which were fresh, perfectly prepared, and delicious. The drinks flowed, the service was superb, and the atmosphere was beautiful. The only small note is that the tipping process at the end felt a little awkward, but otherwise everything was exceptional. A must-visit in Nelson amazing food, great service, and stunning views.
Ursula R — Google review
Excellent restaurant, located on the shore of Nelson Bay, with incredible views from the outside terrace. Service personal is efficient and extremely attentive, without being fancy. The menu contains around 5 sorts of various appetizers, entrées, mains, sides and desserts. Enough to make you hesitating about what to go for, or wanting to share.
Thiébaud — Google review
Delicious seafood combined with beautiful view of the sea! We came for late lunch on a sunny day and got seated on the balcony on top of the sea, it was so charming. The seafood chowder was creamy and delicious, and the price was very reasonable.
Tuomas L — Google review
We sat on the outdoor patio overlooking the water. We had the catch of the day, the scallops and a side of sweet potato. Everything was delicious!
Julie L — Google review
Late lunch here was amazing, I got the fresh oysters 6 (chef gave me 8 because some were small) and baked mussels, my partner got the garlic bread. All was fresh and delicious, the atmosphere was so calm and relaxing, with great friendly service. Will definitely be back next visit.

Restaurant
Hopgoods Restaurant is a sophisticated dining spot in Nelson, offering seasonal New Zealand dishes and a selection of wines. The historic interior and brick patio create a cozy atmosphere for diners. Located at the base of the Trafalgar Park steps, this well-established restaurant provides an unfailingly high-quality dining experience. The attentive staff ensures that guests can enjoy their meals at their own pace without feeling rushed.
Beautiful venue with a lovely understated menu and clean execution. Everything was delicious (special shout out to the paua and zucchini flower dishes) however the undisputed star of the show was the service, from entrance to exit attentive and charming without being overbearing. Nina who looked after us was world class! Highly recommend.
Joe D — Google review
Fabulous food and exceptional service. Sometimes I go to Nelson just so I can eat Aaron Ballantine’s food. It’s that good. And without question the best service I’ve had in NZ: warm, inviting, cheerful, fast, unobtrusive and knowledgeable. Last night I had scampi, bigeye tuna, sourdough bread, and a fig salad. The visit before this I had whitebait- a technical marvel because each one was tempura fried separately. The chef must be using magic. Tastes like it.
Robert C — Google review
I chose Hopgoods for my birthday dinner after a friend’s recommendation and was not disappointed. We had the tasting menu and the food was to die for, especially the tuna tataki - delicious! I have a number of food intolerances and this wasn’t a problem at all. Best gluten free bread I have ever eaten. The staff were lovely and the level of service was spot on. The building itself and atmosphere were lovely too, the rabbit art is a great touch. We will be returning for our anniversary dinner and we both can’t wait.
Paula C — Google review
Birthday dinner that will be well remembered. The food and service was excellent. The fish was super tasty and excellently cooked. The desert was amazing. The staff were very helpful and really friendly. I think when I am in Nelson, I will be back.

Great dining experience in Nelson. We finished our foodie trip to Nelson with an more than worthy dinner experience at Hopgoods. From the point we stepped in until we left, we only experienced warm hospitality you could only wish for. Dawa and her team was looking after us so incredibly well, we felt like being at home. Food was incredible and offered a a great variety - big kudos to the Chef and team. We will hopefully be back soon.
Wieland M — Google review
Food was simply fabulous. We had the bread and truffle oil butter to start, and the venison loin as our main. All was divine. Service was superb - prompt, helpful but not suffocating. Enough space between the tables so that you could talk without other people's conversations intruding; background music was at the right level too. As it was our anniversary, they produced a plate with 2 chocolate truffles on and Happy Anniversary written in chocolate as a surprise. Couldn't recommend highly enough!
Fiona H — Google review
After eating at restaurants around the globe, I can honestly say I would be thrilled to eat a meal this delicious in any location you can name. It’s world-class dining in little ole Nelson. We had the smoked salmon cakes, gnocchi, and snapper, with iceberg side salad. The first three dishes were a-maz-ing. The iceberg was good, but not necessarily my favourite salad of all time. Wrapping it all up, the desert was the butternut custard, a unique dish that I never wanted to end. The service was 5-star: attentive and very friendly without being obtrusive. The vibe of the joint is my favourite style, which is cosmopolitan and not even a tiny drop of pretentiousness. I may move to Nelson just to become a regular here.
Ken C — Google review
Fantastic meal and service. It is always a treat to visit Hopgoods' and it is consistently excellent. From the amazing bread and butter to start, melt in your mouth venison, tasty duck and to die for cocktails, it is so so good from start to finish. The experience never disappoints and I can't wait to go back again!!

Nestled in the heart of Nelson, East St. Cafe and Bar is a vibrant haven for food lovers, especially those seeking delicious vegan options. With its funky decor and inviting courtyard garden, it’s the perfect spot to unwind while enjoying a diverse menu that includes mouthwatering burgers, fresh salads, and even fish and chips. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming—ideal for anyone who might feel anxious about dining out.
I totally loved my first experience with the east street eatery! It was cosy, delicious and I just loved it! The interior design is really amazing and I loved that they use old vinyl covers for their menus. Also the amount of plants and the little fire place are amazing. The service was really nice and even took a photo of me and my friends after the food arrived pretty fast. I loved that everything was vegan and you didn’t had to think about something being not vegan. That’s why I was actually overwhelmed because it was nearly the first time you actually had to choose from soooo many options! And the food was great. I had the daily special which was Cannelloni : Pasta Tunnels with roasted broccoli, cauliflower, spinach and tofu ricotta baked in a Napoli sauce and cheese with a side salad. And for dessert their crème brûlée which had also passion fruit in it Overall great food for great value and it comes out fast so go and try out East street eatery!!! I loved it :)
Jo — Google review
We came here for yesterday afternoon and it was simply at best, okay. The decor was funky, with lots of plants and the menu had some interesting options. We ordered some hot drinks and a bowl of chips for the table. We waited about 45 minutes for our chips and nearly an hour for two coffees and a pot of tea. Apparently their POS system was down which we did understand, however the waitstaff’s response left much to be desired. Having heard great things about East St it was a shame to have this experience. Probably won’t be back. Our food and drinks were decent once they finally arrived.
Naomi H — Google review
Lovely little vegetarian restaurant in the heart of town. If you’re looking for something a little different East St. fits the bill. The food was great, atmosphere super casual and a bit funky, and the wait staff friendly and attentive.
Bruce P — Google review
Awesome! We ate there twice and everything was delicious. Great for vegans. Healthy and fresh. We loved it.
Sarah G — Google review
Such a fabulous vegetarian restaurant! Lots of delicious options and very helpful and friendly staff. Reasonable prices. We loved the decor, and the wood fire, which is great on a cold winters night. We will definitely be back next time we are in Nelson.
Charlotte J — Google review
Excellent experience at East Street, lovely interior/ decor and courtyard, staff super friendly, attentive and efficient. I’m not vegan or vegetarian but really enjoyed my meal (see photo). Others’ meals looked delicious too. I don’t personally like alt milk coffee so didn’t try it here and they don’t open till 12 anyway. Would definitely come back for food - must be pretty with the lights in the evening. Dogs welcome!😉
Steph K — Google review
When you walk in it’s an instant wow, the decor is amazing! I’ve been here twice now and both times the food has been on point with some of the best vegan food I’ve had. The first time I got the nachos which were amazing. My friend got one of the salads with falafel and it looked good so I came back a couple of days later and ordered it. It was really tasty, it had so many different flavours which had the sourness from the pickled cabbage and the nuttiness of the tahini and the seeds which made it really well balanced. My dad got the sandwich and fries which he said he really enjoyed, we also got the immunity tea which was really yummy. I’m here on holiday and I intend to come back at least once again before I leave.

Excellent spot for GF and vegan food. Not a vegan myself but definitely still enjoyed the meal. Super quiet when we went but still had a good atmosphere. Friendly staff and good sized portions of food. Definitely recommend it.

What an awesome place to visit! We came in for a valentine's evening dinner and the food was on point! Everything was freshly made and came out when ready which I loved, we got a whole range of different plates and drinks. The atmosphere was intimate and lovely. The staff were amazing! Polite, positive and attentive which is such an asset to th restaurant. Thank you

Believe the hype! This is a real Nelson fan favourite and I can understand why. Lovely fresh flavours and interesting combinations. I was worried the food would be too spicy for my taste but need not have been. Nothing was too over the top and they were very happy to accommodate. Great, friendly service - this is a well oiled machine with a great personality.
Sarah P — Google review
The best Bar-dining experience in a very long time. We booked beforehand and informed that we're having a kid with nut & seafood allergy and a young adult with chili allergy. When we've been brought to the table, the waitress already had a menu with all dishes highlighted that can be consumed for the dietary requirements. That's something I've never experienced anywhere that we've dined. The care and knowledge, especially since we brought the kids with their allergens, was outstanding. The food was just outstanding. We will 1000% come back.
Wieland M — Google review
Great, loved it, nice vibe. Excellent friendly service. Liked the interior design. Cool NZ music. Good wine list. Good food.

Great food. This is one of Nelson's best restaurants. We had a sliders, dumplings prawns, lamb shoulder and broccoli. It was all delicious. Our waitstaff were knowledgeable and friendly and made us feel very at home.
Wei L — Google review
Fabulous service by our Scottish waitress. Great welcome on entry and a good vibe inside. Disappointed with the food. Buns were dry and delivery of food disjointed. Although we were warned about this some kitchen consideration would have ensured the flow to match choices worked. We also would have appreciated spoons to serve.

This restaurant is a popular choice for Indian food in the Nelson area. It has indoor and outdoor seating, delivery, takeout, and reservations. The menu offers a variety of vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Very delicate and authentic cuisine. The food on the plates was plenty the service was very friendly and the waiting time was accurate. We'll come back.
Andreas S — Google review
We ordered the lunch platter and were disappointed with both the quality and quantity of the food. The portions were surprisingly small, and the dishes were served cold. Despite specifically requesting the curries to be spicy, they were overly sweet. When we asked for green chilies to adjust the flavor, we were told they didn’t have any—which is surprising for a restaurant. The staff was unaccommodating and unresponsive to our requests, which added to the overall poor experience.
Ankita N — Google review
Hey 👋 All Used to love this place back in 2016 /2017 ,Was great bustling food was yum . Went there after a while 2025 The customer service team have become relaxed , it was alright. The food was ok won't say bad , but definitely not good like it used to be . Ordered butter chicken but got chicken tikka masala . Gave the feedback but he argued back that it's not possible and it's the same chef since 11 years . As my Indian Heritage background I know my taste for Indian food . So might have won awards but not the same anymore has lost its touch ... Drinks were warm like coke had asked for more ice also i asked if it was cans , was told yes but just served from big bottles , was on flatter side. Mehhh Sorry team not rating you good becaus of honesty. Otherwise , enjoyed eating with family was alright environment . Hopefully you guys can up the game like it used to be as i truly love this place hopefully this feedback can bring positiva change in food and service Reply to the reply below : Thanks for clarifying that how the staff were and drinks . I guess you are truly proving me correct here rather taking the feedback to up the game you are taking it personally and pointing it back at the customer. And now also dictating how my taste buds inside my mouth might have tasted the food ? Rather actually tale the feedback and have a chat with the chef and see what went wrong to create a better tase for next time . Also thanks for pointing out to me that i was enjoying my food, yes i was hungry with my family and not that fussed when hungry . Hence i dropped a feedback so maybe you can up the game and make the improvement . I can also see that the business has been sold recently and seems like it now the same anymore . Anyway your choice guys your restaurant upto you how you want to take this feedback and get better or not . Not my loss :) il take away more stars as you’re dictation on my taste buds telling me how i would now taste food inside my own body . Have a good evening

Superb service, great food, Indeed the best Indian restaurant in the nelson!
B7 W — Google review
The Indian Cafe is located in a lovely old villa. The food is fantastic. The dishes are full of flavor and a good size. The Nan bread is hot and soft without being too soggy. I highly recommend the tandoori platter for 2 as a starter, it’s enough food for 3 to 4 people. If you still have food for a dessert you should try the Gulab Jamun. The service was good, but there was an older member of staff training a new employee, she was very condescending to the new employee.
J K — Google review
Awesome Indian food! This place really does it well. A nice atmosphere in either the indoor or the outdoor dining experience. Staff were good, local beverages were very good and the food was great. All the breads were exceptionally well done - and the curries were amazing. A great place for families, friends and even couples to enjoy a nice night out (if you are a couple and want to be away from the crowds (or kids) then the booths outside, down the side, are perfect for that romantic date night curry.)

This was a great place for a family Indian meal. The food was good quality obviously and the absolute best onion baji I have ever tasted. The only factor not to my particular taste was the spices. We ordered medium and there was no heat at all in any of our dishes. Lovely place though, nice staff and a vibrant atmosphere. I'll go for hot next time for sure 🇮🇳

European restaurant
This cozy european restaurant in the heart of the Nelson Region is a must-visit for tourists and locals alike. The hearty meals, local beers and wines, and charming atmosphere make it a perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing meal or drink with friends. Tables are set outdoors in the summer or indoors in the winter - no matter what time of year you visit Smugglers Pub & Cafe.
We picked a quiet lunchtime so it is hard to judge atmosphere as we were the only diners. However the staff are friendly chatty and efficient and provide a relaxed feel. The food was amazing and very well presented. $28.50 for a two course meal makes it great value too. The environment had much to look at with very quirky decor befitting of the establishment name.

It’s Easter holiday and the place was kinda busy - so we waited for a while before we got someone to give us a table and another while before we got our orders. The tacos were average but the fries were good! The atmosphere and vibe was cool!

Top notch place to have a brew and a meal. Steak, ribs and brisket were amazing. Big portions, juicey and tender. I live in Picton, and would be more than happy to travel back just to have dinner one night. Also, the staff were brillant to deal with. Keep up the good work team!
Luke W — Google review
Nice place, friendly staff. I'd only have to comment on the fact that some of our parties food order wasn't prepared, and we had to ask a staff member about the whereabouts of the meal. But within a short time, the chef had made up the meal. Otherwise really nice atmosphere

This place is an unbelievable gem! The theme inside the restaurant was spot on, the service of the staff? Fantastic. The food? Better than Lone Star and cheaper too! (Hot take) more themed restaurants like are exactly what this country needs. Everything is too dull and boring decor nowadays. Smugglers are 10/10

From the outside we thought this place would be a very average pub feed, but it outdid our expectations for sure! Lovely fish tacos, great kids meals, fish and chips for adults was huge incl a nice salad and the steaks with baked potatoes were delicious. Food came within 20 mins despite it being quite busy.

Seafood restaurant
The Styx is a popular waterfront restaurant located on Wakefield Quay, offering stunning views of Nelson Harbour. It's known for its inventive menu that includes sugar-free, keto, paleo, gluten-free, and dairy-free options. The double-decker restaurant specializes in fresh seafood and is praised for its delicious fish of the day and scallop carbonara. Visitors can enjoy a serene atmosphere with beautiful sea views while savoring real, honest food made from scratch.
Arrived in Nelson midweek, staying near the waterfront, so I looked for a seafood restaurant to complete the day. Took a short walk to Styx to find it packed (must be good). Host said they had a share table outside and a family of 4 were finishing up so we accepted that. Had a great view of the harbour and weather was great. Ordered our meal and our table was joined by another couple. Great food with wine and service was spot on.

Some of the best food we've had on this visit to NZ. Presentation was exceptional and flavours were great! Well done team!! Great location on the wharf - and they sat us near the fire on a cold day. Bonus! Beautiful food and good value for money.
Harvey G — Google review
Our lunch at The Styx was truly exceptional — one of those rare dining experiences where everything comes together perfectly: the food, the atmosphere, and the service. The seafood chowder was absolutely outstanding — rich, creamy, and full of fresh, perfectly cooked seafood. The balance of flavors was remarkable; it’s honestly the best chowder I’ve ever had, and I’ve tasted this dish in many corners of the world. The fish and chips were equally impressive — golden and crisp on the outside, soft and tender inside, with just the right seasoning. Simple, fresh, and flawlessly executed. And the service was nothing short of excellent. Our waitress, Sophie, was incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful. She made us feel genuinely welcome and added a personal touch that made the whole experience even better. A perfect lunch by the water — delicious food, lovely atmosphere, and warm, professional service. The Styx is a place I’d gladly return to and wholeheartedly recommend to anyone visiting Nelson.

Amazing food, view and customer service! We ordered the ceviche and fish of the day. Both were pretty good. The highlight was the fish sauce. Chocolate mousse worth it! Highly recommend!

It is one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. Service was exceptional all the staff were extremely nice and hospitable and catered for our needs. The chef did a wonderful job with our meals and it was super quick too. The restaurant was as full as it gets but they still did a very organized and efficient job managing the customers and kept everyone smiling and happy. It’s my birthday today, I don’t know if that had anything to do with my positive mood but they definitely complimented that and raised it to a new level.

We had such a fantastic dining experience here! It’s definitely a popular spot, so making a reservation is a must, especially around dinner time as it gets very busy. The atmosphere was lively yet comfortable, and the service was attentive throughout the night. The food was outstanding — the seafood was fresh and full of flavor, with the chowder being an absolute standout. Rich, creamy, and packed with perfectly cooked seafood, it was one of the best I’ve had. I also tried the venison, which was beautifully prepared, tender, and paired with flavors that really elevated the dish.

One of my favourite places to have lunch, staff are just fabulous! Bonus in the warmer weather as the kids love to go wharf jumping while Mum & Dad finish their drinks ❤️

Visiting family in Nelson and this was recommended as a good place for a meal (celebrating my wife's birthday). 6 of us on a rainy Sunday evening over Easter and the place was quite busy with several tables being used and a very large group in the outdoor covered area. We had earlier moved our reservation out 30 mins (they accommodated us no problem), the staff were friendly and attentive on arrival and with ordering, Ollie (6 weeks into the job) was great with advice on selections, drinks and keeping on top of clearing space on the table. The meals were great, food delivered quickly and was hot, fresh and well cooked/presented. A good selection of beverages were available for our tastes. The prices were fair for what we had in keeping with expectations and were good sized meals. Total $374 with 6 meals, 10 drinks (incl 3 cocktails). Will definitely be back when in the area again.

Tides is a hidden Gem in the heart of town. Service with a smile and a laugh and even when busy you're always recognised and somebody will come to your assistance. The brightly coloured Street-Art canvases and stylish yet fun furniture is fun. Harbour Light Bistro is located on Wakefield Quay overlooking the water with a great view of the lighthouse and boulder bank. The bistro offers quality, locally sourced dishes cooked in a “slightly different angle on traditional cuisine” according to the owner and head chef Steve Coyne. Many of their patrons mention great dishes and fine views.
My family and I had an excellent time celebrating my 21st at Harbour Light Bistro. We came on a Tuesday, so it was very quiet. The staff were very attentive, not overbearing or pressuring at all. The manager on duty, Matt, was a wonderful, friendly host to us. The food on the set menu was all beautifully cooked and well worth the price. We will love to come again.

Nice spot on a cold winter afternoon with a roaring fire and good coffee. We loved the baking, the creamy chicken and hand pies were great, perfect pastry. Not sure about the vegan stuff and Buddha bowls but what we had was delicious.

First time ordering anything here. Obviously a top spot as super busy, which is always a good thing! Very friendly staff. Food in cabinets looked very fresh & delicious. Ordered 2 takeaway pizza for our evening dinner. Best pizza ever in NZ & 2nd only to a tiny town in Colorado! They looked yum at 11am and eaten cold at 5pm they still were. Awesome food & service. Thanks!

Came for dinner and was lucky to find a spare table. Limited menu on offer for dinner, mainly pizzas and chips. Big selection of pizzas, including kid's pizza. The large is huge, so we shared a Medium between 2 adults and the kid's had a cheese pizza each. Lovely service and delicious food

We were excited to try their pizza. We order the large Popeyes Plus and golden fries. The service was friendly but the food requires some improvement. The fries were delivered from the fish and chips next door which were amazing. We could have ordered them directly if we knew. The pizza toppings were super tasty but the base was hard and tasted like cardboard. We liked the location and the atmosphere even with the below-average pizza.

Anchor Restaurant & Bar is a popular spot for those arriving by boat, offering a great dining experience during off-peak hours. The lunch menu features a variety of options under $20, including steak sandwiches, catch of the day, gourmet fish & chips, red curry and mussels, salads and pasta with stunning ocean views. Seafood enthusiasts will appreciate the ample seating both indoors and outdoors.
Great advert for Nelson. Tucked away in a corner of the industrial land, this lovely spot is more than you’d expect, and has a real friendly vibe to go along with the space and the food. The food is excellent. A mix of scrumptious seafood, as well as a few vege and meaty options that you can’t go wrong with. The staff are friendly, helpful, and seem genuinely happy to be there. If you need a feed, and you have this as an option, go. The outdoor seating offers a scenic space from which to chill with your chosen food or beverage, and inside is light and airy.

We have been to this restaurant a few times over the last few years. Compared to the first time we went, it has taken a bit of a dive. The service was fast and pleasant. The table was sticky as... even after waitress wiped it. The Salt & Pepper Squid, originally was to die for and reasonably priced... now you get a mouthful for $19, and it has not got any taste to it. Mains Ordered: 2 Ultimate Surf and Turfs (med), one came out well-done (maybe due to it being thin). The Fisherman's Choice, battered fish very oily. The Pork Belly, looked big due to the huge amount of mashed potato. The meals in general looked great, other then the oiliness of the batter on the fish. There was no real great taste to the meals; the sauces did not stand out; and the salads (which I am all for!!), were covered in something but not sure what - as no taste. A huge disappointment.
Nina B — Google review
Pre booked table weeks ahead. Our table was against the wall, three tables pushed together with two people each end and four on one side, very squashed, hot and not much room. Waited close to 40 minutes or more to get served and then another 45 before the meal was served, six of the eight people enjoyed the meal two wished they had ordered something else. No one came to see how the meal was, no one came to clear the table or ask if we wanted dessert or drinks, we had to go up to the counter to ask for dessert. Service was not rude but not friendly. Certainly not going back anytime soon.
Joanne K — Google review
My friend and I called in for lunch. I ordered the soft crab dish, something I'd never had before. At $27 I was expecting it to be better than what I could do at home. Instead I received what appeared to be a plate full of salad with a small crumbed crab on top. It was awful. Definitely not worth the price. I complained twice and should have asked to speak with the chef or manager. One of the worst meals I had. Will not go back.
Marie P — Google review
Higher end of pricing for a lunch meal but the food was incredibly good. Very rich as well. Mussels + fish of the day:
Liam A — Google review
We went here for dinner and the starter breads were really good but the mains not so much unfortunately. The chicken and fish portions were a bit too small for the price you pay and the chicken was slightly over done. The mains were also bulked out with average tasting mash potatoes too. Overall not bad but for the price, we expected far better.
Bray W — Google review
Seafood chowder is my favourite! Staff are so friendly & if it’s a nice day, sitting outside is the best! They have great kid meals as well! Very family friendly 😀
Adrienne P — Google review
Braving the storm, I decided to take my parents out for lunch as they were on holiday with us and the rubbish weather reduced our options for entertainment. We were looking for something to warm us up, something tasty and somewhere interesting, and all being seafood fans, we decided on The Anchor. While the venue was busy, we were quickly seated and immediately asked if we wanted coffee - Great start! The coffee came and was nice, and got our gears moving ready to order our lunch! I ordered the Salmon Nicoise Salad, as I had been feeling a little chubby with all of the eating and sharing I've have been doing! The salmon was served cold, a smoked fillet, whiskey cured, sitting on a bed of fresh salad with potatoes and a poached egg. I really enjoyed this dish, and was surprised at the freshness and quantity of the salad given the season and current cost of lettuce! My wife had the chowder, as she often does, and this was well received and warmed her up on this cold, wet day. My mother had the prawn risotto, and while it wasn't something she would normally order, she enjoyed it. Dad ordered the duck parfait, and this was very tasty although he was eyeing up mum's risotto and helped her finish it! The restaurant is a great place to visit, you can sit and watch the boats come and go. I have often visited on a nice sunny day and sat with a cold beer and watched the boats. A very relaxing undertaking! This day was very wet, but the restaurant was warm and dry, a great way to spend the afternoon!

Great food, and perfect service. We loved the silken tofu, pork belly lava and the rotis especially. The eggplant nuggets were a bit flavourless but still good to eat with the honey. Brownie was comfy and generous. Thanks for having us!

The stunning views set the perfect backdrop for a memorable meal, and the friendly staff made the experience even better. A must-visit for anyone craving incredible Thai cuisine in a beautiful setting. Highly recommended!

This was hands down the best meal we’ve had in our 5 months travelling around NZ! We had a duck red curry, the tom yum calamari, coconut chicken skewers and ended off the meal with the banana sticky rice. the curry is so flavourful and goes amazingly well with the lychee and grapes. the duck was very tender too! It also tastes authentic and we felt like we were brought back to Thailand. the calamari was super fresh and the batter was so light and crispy. it was not rubbery at all. the chicken skewers were also very tender and delicious too. we were stuffed but could not resist ordering dessert - and we’re so glad we did. the warm sticky rice paired with the caramelised banana was a perfect match! the star of the show was definitely the red curry and the dessert. everything tasted authentically Thai but with a twist! we wish we had more time in Nelson so we could visit again and try everything on the menu. The service was also impeccable and the staff were very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is situated next to the beach and has an alfresco dining area as well. We’re so glad we discovered this restaurant!

A wonderful dining experience while staying at The Hotel Nelson. We dined here for breakfast, dinner, and dessert, and not a single dish on the menu disappointed us. Some of the dishes made us gasp in delight and I ate till stuffed. I in particular enjoyed the onion rings, and the belgium breakfast waffles. The service was top notch, the woman I assume to be the restaurant manager was friendly, attentive, and a delight to talk to, and the rest of the staff were also attentive and polite. Amazing high class restaurant with attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff and the absolute best food experience we’ve had in the South Island!! Absolutely everything was delectably delicious and tantalised our tastebuds. Reasonably priced as well for what it is. We’re definitely coming back for breakfast in the morning!! The potato skins, garlic bread and beef brisket tacos were to die for and i dare say probably the best I’ve ever had anywhere in the world. The lady we had serving us was great! very kind and patient with us presented tidily and the bartender was super cool!! The music they played definitely complemented the vibe and atmosphere of the restaurant as well as two tvs playing the news and friends for entertainment. Overall 10/10 in my book and I’ll definitely be booking this hotel and restaurant next time we travel to the South Island.

Went there for dinner tonight, the bar service was slow and forgot a drink, the wait staff upstairs was wonderful, food took forever, and my partners steak was chewy and not very nice one of the worst steaks my partner has ever had. The guy behind the bar when we went to pay didn't listen to what we said about the food and just laughed it off and my partner told him that he just laughed off what we said. Not happy about it.
Rebecca P — Google review
The restaurant is clean and very well presented. Prices are very reasonable in my opinion compared to many other restaurants I have visited over the years. Food was very well presented and tasty. The only downside was that our food was left for almost 10min under the heating lamps, which kept the food warm but not hot like it is when it’s prepared by the chef and ready to be served. Lucky this is not the standard practice as our food was the only one left like that between 18:00 and 19:10hrs on the 23/04/2024 all other dinners were served immediately after the bell rang. We have booked for another dinner tomorrow night, to see if this was a one off for us. This restaurant is wheelchair accessible unfortunately many patrons of the adjacent The Hotel, were parked on the path for wheelchair access, therefore making it difficult for mobility challenged people to access the restaurant. Location: ***** adjacent to The Hotel in Nelson NZ Cleanness of this restaurant: ***** Staff courtesy: ***** Food quality: ***** Price: $20 - $30 person inclusive of one drink each Will we return: Yes Value for money: ***** Portion size: More then satisfactory

This was my first experience with this restaurant. I chose this establishment as the venue for a reunion with my cousins, then breakfast the next morning. The choice was made due to the fact we were staying at the Hotel Nelson. This has been by far the best choice without hesitation or doubt in our minds. From the confirmation of booking alongside the greeting apon our entrance to the end of our farewells, this has purely been an extremely professional and memorable experience. The food was of Masterchef quality, presented beautifully and the customer service from Marcia was above and beyond our expectations and was not only attentive in every way imaginable but professionally done with an amazing attitude and smile, thank you for making our experience so enjoyable. We will be returning in the not so distant future. We fully recommend the staff of this establishment for your 5⭐️ efforts. Once again, thank you 🥇🏆

Awesome location, great service and really yummy food. We got fish and chips and chicken waffles!! Fish was fresh and well cooked, hot sauce was available to go with that! Despite the nearby construction and the café being fairly busy, River Kitchen managed to keep a calm and relaxed atmosphere. It was the kind of place where you could still chat and catch up without raising your voice. The staff were excellent, attentive, and quick on their feet when it came to serving drinks and food. I ordered the Big Breakfast without mushrooms, and it was delicious. There was a pinkish sauce on the plate that added a nice touch, though I wasn’t entirely sure what it was, possibly cranberry. Either way, it complemented the meal nicely. Overall, River Kitchen delivered a great dining experience with friendly service and a peaceful vibe, even with the busyness and construction outside. Next time, I might give the pancakes a go.

I came here after reading all the glowing Google reviews, and wow — it absolutely lived up to the hype! It was a rainy night, and we sat by the window watching the rain fall — the whole vibe was super cozy and chilled. Our server recommended the Hop Federation Pilsner and I was blown away! I’ve officially found a new favourite beer profile that I’ll be keeping an eye out for from now on. Now, the burger… incredible. The red orange marmalade was such a standout — it added this perfect sweet tang that balanced beautifully with the savoury beef. We also had curly fries with black garlic aioli on the side (so good), and finished it all off with Mars balls for dessert. Every bite was a treat. Loved the atmosphere, the service, the food, and that beer! Can’t wait to come back.

While on a short work trip to Nelson, I went into the CBD to find a nice place to have dinner. I popped in to check out the place. I received a pleasant greeting and handed a menu. I ordered the Johnny Smash with Fries. The fries arrived first and were perfectly cooked and salted. The burger arrived a couple of minutes later and tasted amazing. There was a generous amount of bacon and burger patty and I thought that I got good value for money. The staff were great as well.

Burgers felt a fair bit overpriced, and underwhelming, not particularly hot, a little under seasoned, just missing the X factor that the price promised. Didn't meet my moderately high expectations (based on price). Beef burger texture was not amazing, perhaps needed more % of a fatty cut? I don't know, I don't own a burger shop, but I've definitely had better. Staff were attentive.

Beer & Burgers – Wide range of burger options, in terms of toppings, to include their “black bun” (charcoal smoked). The curly fries are excellent. Large selection of beers on taps and in cans.
Dale S — Google review
This place is cool! The burgers are so delicious and they have such a great selection to choose from to. I tried the Diana Soss and hubby had the Chicolas Cage and both were delicious. Loved the pork sausage patty and the mushrooms along with the cream peppercorn sauce and wholegrain mustard was an amazing combination. The curly fries were yum. We also tried their passionfruit soda which was nice and refreshing. The place was packed so there was a little wait on being served but nothing to complain about because the food came out reasonably fast considering there were a few large tables ordered before us. The service was friendly! An awesome range of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Was tempted to try the donuts but we were absolutely stuffed full. The music was a vibe!!!!
CC B — Google review
It’s a modern place where you can grab burgers and beers. The menu is quite large, they offer several types of beers and different burgers. I had the tandoori chicken burger. I was told it’s spicy but it’s not spicy. It has a lightly spicy taste but that’s fine. I rate the burger 4/5 because the chicken was a little dry. The beers are very good and the staff is hilarious. They’re very friendly, funny and make it an even better experience to be here. 5 stars and a go to!
Aaron — Google review
Really yummy burgers ! We had the Lorena fried chicken and the spice up my life. Both were tasty. The vibe is cool at the venue as well. Burgers are well priced but their sides like the curly fries are ridiculous, $10 seems to much for that.
Adida R — Google review
Beer House has opened up at Culture and it’s a great - funky vibe, same great burgers…now with Hop Federation Beer choices (and cider). Taste a few beers (a flight of 4) or have a pint of your favourite. Wide selection of yummy burgers: Love the enamel plates! There’s no leftovers because always delicious food.

Babagatto is a welcoming Italian restaurant with amazing food and great service. The chefs are passionate about their cuisine and make sure that you have a wonderful dining experience. The food is fresh and delicious, and ale is especially talented - Definitely worth trying!
The best things in life are simple. Like the Italian cuisine. Raffaello is not simple at all: he is a true Italian passionate. But luckily he is true to the essence of Italian food: simple but so yummy yummy good!! And his love for Piemonte wines made our dinner perfect...

Absolutely delicious and authentic Italian restaurant in the city center of Nelson. The Italian owner Raffaello is a very friendly person making sure that everyone is having a great time. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for some delicious homemade pasta and deserts!!

The home-made pasta here were beautiful. We celebrated hubby's birthday on Thurday night. They were very busy with one staff serving tables. He managed very well with good manners. Satisfied with the food especially!

Wow what an experience. The owner is a really cool Italian guy and we were lucky to get a table on a busy night. The carbonara was to die for. No cream, parsley or mushrooms. It's made with a lot of cheese the Italian way. Must go if you like Italian food.

I have often looked at this restaurant as I passed during the day. Tonight I am happy to say that I booked a table to see what all the fuss is about. I was not disappointed. The food was beautiful beyond my expectation. We had pork belly and egg plant parmigiana and just wow. Pork belly was melt in mouth delish and the egg plant was rich, vibrant and well balanced. We had 2018 Sangiovesi at only $14 a glass! And a dark sultry caramel pannacotta, to finish. The golden lining to an awesome meal had to be the host, authentic Italian, fun and kind. He made dining a true experience. I cannot wait to return.

Visited for the first time for a special celebration. Had seen a recent review in paper and wanted to taste what all the rave reviews were about. Having been to Italy a few times I know what good Italian food is. This place is the real deal. Amazing genuine Italian dishes with amazing flavours. A wide ranging menu with great wines and beers. Had a great 4 course meal with wine and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Highly recommend. Will return.

Babagatto really is one of the very best Italian restaurants I've been to! The food is delicious and the place has such a great atmosphere. I came for a meal the other night and really was blown away by friendly the staff. The owner is an absolutely lovely guy who treats you like one of the family from the moment you step through the door. They are very attentive and understanding about any dietary needs you might have. They really take it seriously. Absolutely delicious food, wonderfully lovely staff and a great atmosphere. A must visit if you're looking for great Italian food in Nelson.

The most authentic Italian restaurant outside of Italy 🇮🇹 we went with my 6 month old daughter and my family. Baba was fun, friendly, authentic, knew his wines, suggested the best dishes and gave my daughter a cork to chew. Food was amazing. Wine was amazing service was fantastic, warm and friendly. Really felt like we were in Italy again. Told us a lot about authentic Italian cooking. Can’t wait to go back.

Little India Nelson is a must-visit for those craving delicious Indian cuisine, particularly Punjabi dishes. The restaurant prides itself on using recipes passed down from Grandmother Premjit Kaur Gill and offers an indoor dining experience that shouldn't be missed. For those unable to visit in person, the restaurant also features a cookbook on their website so patrons can recreate their delectable meals at home.
We had an excellent Indian meal here and it is not often I get to say that. We thought we were going to be disappointed with the fish tandoori starter as it had no flavour but when we did not eat and brought this up the chef made a Punjabi version which was great and if you like spicy food the version to go for. We then had the Amchaari lamb another very good dish. The staff were lovely clean and moderately priced

The host was incredibly kind and made sure we had everything we needed. A genuinely wonderful place with great people. Highly recommend!

Two days ago we went to this restaurant for dinner…. As a seasoned diner of fine food and after 70 days in the South Island we have dined out 65 of them…. 5 of them Indian Restaurants …. The food we ordered lacked substance … only a little bit of lamb in our potion but mostly sauce …. And our friend had chicken and even that was minimal and he complained to me saying that chicken is as cheap as and still mostly sauce. To save your restaurant from more critical appraisal as what is coming from us … be generous with the meat/ chicken/ …..don’t be mean … Paul & Lucia and our friend John .

I had ordered food from Ubereats from this restaurant. Worst experience ever. The lack of effort put in the preparation was appalling for a service business. Forget taste, I found a metal piece in my food. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Absolutely horrid service.

friendly atmosphere plenty of seating. my pet hate is being sat down and then to wait 20 minutes for a drink. we don't go out to drink water. however in this case $10 for a 1.50$ bottle of beer or 12$ for a 333ml of average tap beer makes the water appealing sadly. and the problem with the sad state labour has left us in from their tragic leadership is that restaurants have become uber bars to survive therefore lose their identity and forget that dining out should be a memorable experience for good reasons. the food quality is good flavor is good ive had a lot better and I've had worse. this place is capable of a lot better but are struggling in this disastrous economy. hopefully next time will be more memorable.

We've been to Chokdee a few times and enjoyed the food and service. However this evening 21 September we were disappointed. We were hurriedly pointed to a table, left menus and water with no explanation of specials. Others arrived, their order was taken and we were forgotten so we left. The restaurant was not busy. Found another Thai which was excellent in always. Shame.

Lombardi’s Ristorante, located at Queenstown's Hotel St Moritz, M Gallery by Sofitel, offers a delightful dining experience with Italian-inspired meals and an extensive pasta menu. The restaurant is known for its gluten-free options and even has a children's menu available. Guests can enjoy the picturesque view of the steamboat 'Lady of the Lake' against the backdrop of the snow-capped Remarkables while sipping on specialty cocktails like the Honeynut Martinis.
I had a very pleasant experience at this restaurant. I’d especially like to highlight the waiter’s service: he was very kind, gave me great recommendations, and was always friendly, which made the visit even more enjoyable. The pizza was amazing: thin, crispy base and full of flavor. Congratulations to the chef for such a delicious dish. The dessert was good, though a bit too sweet and rich for my personal taste. Still, it was nicely made. Overall, the value for money and portion sizes are excellent. The place feels cozy and the location is very convenient. Definitely a spot I’d love to return to.

We had made a reservation for New Year's Eve for 2 people. When we arrived it was very full and crowded, as expected. So we made our way to a staff member to tell we had a reservation. We were told to wait outside because everything was full. The owner then stopped and said several times that it was full and we had to wait at least an hour for a free table. I asked, "Even though we have a reservation?" which was only answered with a "you see how full it is." While we decided to look for another place, he told my husband again that he was sorry but there was nothing he could do. My husband pointed out that it's frustrating because we made sure to have a reservation and we won't be able to wait an hour since I am pregnant (8th month). We were rushed inside to a free table and got apologies from owner and staff. Food was good (we've had pasta and pizza), but it would have been a kind gesture to at least get our softdrinks or at least the water on the house. While paying, the owner stopped by and apologized again. But in the same sentence, he also said how fat I look - which is exactly what a woman wants to hear on New Year's Eve while eight months pregnant. Even though the food was good, I can't really recommend the place. The treatment was not blunt but simply rude.
Rahel M — Google review
Three of us ate here last Sunday, 26.01.25. The food was spot on, we had spaghetti con gamberi x 2, penne premavero al polo, tiramisu, pana cotta cafe & tarte au pesce. The young French waiter did his best to manage all the customers during a busy period. The only letdown was having gone earlier to book an outside table. It was disappointing to arrive at our booked time to find there was no table available. The booking system is non- existent, and customers get placed as they arrive. We decided to wait a short while for an outside table to become available. Please just say outside dining is on a first come, first served basis.

Jellyfish restaurant is a great place to enjoy some delicious seafood dishes, full bar and beautiful waterfront views. The service is friendly and the food comes out quickly and hot. There's also plenty of seating outdoors if you'd like to soak up some sun (or rain) while you dine.
My wife & I dined here the second night of our New Zealand honeymoon/vacation (mid-March 2025). Located in Mapua Wharf, which is a cluster of shops & restaurants overlooking the water (absolutely beautiful btw). The Jellyfish offers outdoor seating, but it was unfortunately too cold/windy that evening. A large, ambient indoor setting with a fireplace. Very friendly, accommodating staff, in which all the delicious courses were brought out in a reasonable amount of time. All the seafood choices on the menu looked incredible. Great drink selection too! Highly recommend for a nice seafood dinner night out (and outdoors if the weather is applicable)

Absolutely perfect lunch spot in Mapua We had the most wonderful lunch at Jellyfish, everything from the setting to the service and food was faultless. Sitting by the water with the sun shining and a glass of wine in hand made for such a relaxing afternoon. The fish and chips were some of the best we have had, beautifully crisp batter, fresh fish, and golden fries with a side of tangy tartare. My kokado was light, creamy, and full of flavour, perfectly paired with the crisp kumara chips. We finished with a divine trio of desserts, a perfectly caramelised crème brûlée, a soft macaron, and a rich chocolate brownie topped with toasted almonds, all beautifully presented. Service was friendly and unhurried, and we never felt rushed even though it was a busy day. It is such a lovely spot to unwind, enjoy great food, and take in the view of the boats on the water. Highly recommend Jellyfish to anyone visiting Mapua. It is easily one of the best places to eat in the area. We cannot wait to come back.

We held our family reunion dinner here last weekend, 31 of us aged from 5 fo 84 .. We chose Jellyfish because it is a lovely venue and easy for our group .We were also lucky that our booking was honoured even though just now the restaurant is closed evenings. However we were blown away by the service and the food both of which were impeccable. The staff were unobtrusive but attentive and our meals arrived at the same time, somehow The food was perfect, everyone was happy with their meal. The pork belly was particularly popular and was cooked to perfection. The sauces and accompaniments were just right. Our sophisticated Melbourne contingent were really impressed and we were proud Mapua could put on a function like this . Quantities were generous and our choice of the 3 course option was probably optimistic but we left little on our plates. I rave on but I mean it, that evening was a highlight of our reunion and the best food eaten over 4 days by far . We are really grateful to the Jellyfish staff for they did us oroud.

Service is great. Hooked is a truly lovely place, offering not just great food but truly exceptional service. Our server was fantastic—we noticed them actively recommending dishes to tables around us, and everything looked superb! They even went above and beyond the call of duty: while we were enjoying the beautiful sea view, they quickly and cheerfully sourced tweezers to help us remove a splinter. That level of unparalleled attention is something you simply don't forget. For dessert, I cannot recommend the Affogato highly enough; it was the perfect end to the meal. We genuinely wish we had planned to eat here more often! Highly recommended for a wonderful experience.

the food is AMAZING! We went with a party of four, my partner and I got a selection of the small plates which were all so delicious and a feast for the eyes and mouth! If you are staying in the area or just want to head over for a day trip I highly recommended checking this place out.

Dinner tonight was devine, we had the lamb rump and prawns. Every mouthful was a delight. Thank you 🙏😋🤤 Even though we had food in our fridge, we had to return to dine again the next night. We shared a couple of entrées maple crispy chicken and fish cakes, they were delicious. I had the fish and chips which was nice (the salad was ordinary). My partner had the pea risotto with snapper, which was amazing. The second night we walked in, no reservation (we did try to phone, but couldn't get through) and minutes later many others also walked in and swamped the restaurant. I highly recommend the food, the front of house staff were were very helpful, friendly and product knowledgeable. The view if you are facing the water is also beautiful. Would return if we could 😁

Food was tasty but portion sizes were quite pitiful and poorly presented. Expected a lot better for the premium price. I had the braised lamb special which constituted 5-6 small chunks of braised lamb on mash with a gravy/sauce poured on top. Tasted lovely but could have eaten the same again (and I'm not a big eater). Definitely not worth the money.
Aidan S — Google review
The food is delicious here and portion size was just right for us. The snapper was especially good. We ate here twice and the waiting staff were smiley, friendly and helpful. The overall experience was let down by front of house who consistently ignored people whilst she finished what she was doing, shlepped around with an air of boredom and never smiled. Maybe it was a bad week. It wouldn’t stop me returning but I’ve marked down the rating. Need to prebook.

What a wonderful evening we had at The Apple Shed. We we're celebrating our wedding anniversary and everything was perfect. From the moment we arrived the staff were all friendly and attentive. Beautiful restaurant on the waterfront. We sampled a few bites from several restaurants nearby, and this was our last stop. The risotto with the shaved black truffle was amazing. My husband had the muscles and they were fantastic. So nice to find such yummy food with such an amazing view. Delicious food but I couldn't give you five stars, as mussels were lukewarm but maybe that is temperature you serve them at. We will be visiting again.

Had a really nice lunch here on a beautiful sunny day. It's a busy spot but the staff did a good job of fitting us in, as we didn't book (but I get the feeling we were lucky and you should book). Our food was pretty good, some of the ingredients in a couple dishes were quite bizarre (king fish and salmon I'm looking at you) but not bad! Hot chicken!!! Nuf said! This has to be the best cafe in Nelson right now. The service is out-of-the-park. We loved the presentation of the food, the cafe was warm and cosy on a wet day and the food was plentiful and delicious. I ended up having a Bloody Mary with my lunch which why the best ever! We loved it so much we went back the next day for coffee and almond croissants. I can't recommend this cafe enough! I'm looking forward to going back and trying the bubble waffles next time (even if I am trying to avoid eating wheat).

Seems a constant issue with NZ food place, staff wonderful but let down by the kitchen, buttermilk pancakes a little doughy and my eggs Benedict a fail with hard boiled eggs, coffee was lovely though and one of those rare places that don’t charge you extra for iced latte

Initial impressions great as we were greeted in a friendly, welcoming manner. Seated and allowed to order food even though the kitchen was about to close. Good looking, modern interior, clean and tidy. We just wanted a snack and coffee so ordered fries. There is a choice of sauces. The chips were delicious, shinny with skins on and a morish spicy seasoning. Unfortunately the coffee was horrendous. Possibly the worst I've ever had. Worth trying some other food off the menu probably. But will never return for coffee.

During my recent adventures in Nelson, I had the pleasure of visiting The Vic Public House multiple times, and each visit was a delightful experience. This charming pub boasts both indoor and outdoor seating, with the outdoor area being particularly popular on sunny days. The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming, thanks to the friendly staff who contribute to its relaxed vibe. On one occasion, I stopped by for drinks and found them reasonably priced amidst lovely surroundings.
What a great pub/eatery they have established here. It some how has that old school pub feel, with a great restaurant/ eatery to boot. The food is excellent, well priced and fresh! The staff are fantastic, helpful and chatty. Loved our visit here and will absolutely be back.

The Turkish restaurant NYSA in Nelson offers delicious and authentic kebabs and salads. The wait staff is friendly, and the food is served quickly. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are large. The sauces are flavorful, and there is plenty of meat in each dish. However, it's worth noting that the restaurant was unexpectedly closed on one occasion. Despite this, customers find the food so good that some may consider traveling all the way from Auckland to Nelson just to eat there again.
Delicious Turkish food. My friend and I came here three times in our one week in Nelson because it was so tasty. The chicken is well marinated and juicy. The small size was a great portion. The large size comes with an additional row of chicken. My friend is vegetarian and ordered the mixed vegetarian kebab and she says it’s the best she has had. I would show a picture of it but she ate it so fast that I do not have one. She highly recommends it for any fellow vegetarians.

We chose this place looking for no fuss, homely Turkish food and it delivered beyond expectations. The chefs platter for 2 was huge and incredibly well priced. Everything was cooked and/or spiced to perfection, and it is clear that the owners put a lot of care into everything. If we're ever back in Nelson we will be back here first.

Nice and cosy family run Turkish restaurant with a good, fresh food and friendly service. Delicious Turkish food and many options with something for everyone’s taste. Multiple vegetarian and vegan options on request. We tried Vegetarian maze platter and it was amazing giving a chance to try a bit of everything. Pita bread with hummus is delicious and freshly made. Owner was very nice and customer friendly, but young waitress not so much, she clearly doesn’t wants to work here and wasn’t very polite. Luckily food was really great and that’s what we came for.

I had Kilim in Petone, Wellington as my favourite goto Turkish restaurant. Just upstaged by my recent lunch at Nysa. The food is very authentic and delicious. Very nice and friendly service. Sitting arrangement for about 9 tables I'd think We were very impressed with everything we ordered. The Mixed Grill was awesome. So was the Chicken Meze platter and the Doner Kabab. The Baklava to finish up the lunch was delightful. Good price and good portion sizes. Very strongly recommended. If I'm ever in Nelson, I'll check back again

The Smoking Barrel, located at 105 High Street, offers a cozy atmosphere with a fire burning beside an old truck. The menu features tasty appetizers like vegetarian nachos and rustic fries, as well as excellent donuts for dessert. Customers recommend the fall-off-the-bone ribs with delicious BBQ sauce and the charred broccoli. The BBQ meat sharing platter, Joe's burger, burnt pork belly ends, and chicken quesadilla are also highly recommended.
I originally came for the donuts but ended up staying for the warm smiles and friendly hospitality of the staff, the enticing aroma of BBQ meat, and the rustic, natural charm of the restaurant. While chatting with some friends in Nelson about donuts, they recommended I visit an outstanding spot in Motueka called The Smoking Barrel. Since I was staying in Wakefield, it took me about 40 minutes to get there, so I decided to make a little excursion out of it. The moment I stepped inside and was greeted by the lovely smiles of the staff, I knew I couldn’t just grab some donuts and rush off, and I’m so glad I didn’t. I visited on a Friday Pieday, which helped me narrow down my choices amid an impressive variety of treats. Even the pie specials were a tough call, as everything sounded incredibly delicious. Of course, I couldn’t leave without grabbing some donuts to take on the road, and they were absolutely divine. The only downside was that they were a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it for the quality and experience.

Best dining experience to date. The decor really sets Smoking Barrel apart from other places, every small detail adds to the fantastic ambience. The food is out of the bloody gate, best meal I have ever enjoyed by a landslide. I ordered the chicken waffle stack, my partner had the brisket and bacon burger. We were both stunned and thoroughly impressed with the quality of the food! We will definitely be back with a vengeance and our appetites!

Have seen multiple influencers advertise this place. So had to check it out while I was in the area. Breakfast was amazing. Service was amazing. We got in early, as by the time we were leaving the place was filling fast and getting quite busy. We had heard about the infamous hamburger donut. Unfortunately, they did not have them today, but we took away a Boston Cream and Eggs Benedict Donut. Enjoyed them that much later that day when returning back through the community, we stopped and grabbed another two donuts, Cinnamon and Apple Crumble.

Deliciousness! We always come back everytime we visit Abel Tasman. Yummy food, lovely staff, great vibes! Love their donuts, too. Keep up the good jobs, guys!
Tanti A — Google review
The food was okay, but a bit too sweet for my liking. Most dishes seemed to be covered in sugary sauce, even the fries had a sweet coating. The cornbread and the special butter were also very sugary, which made them hard to enjoy. The coleslaw could’ve used a bit more flavour and seasoning too. I know this place gets a lot of hype, and the staff were friendly, but for me, it just didn’t quite live up to expectations. Overall, it was an average experience, good in parts, but not somewhere I’d rush back to.

Our son wanted to come here for his birthday this year - primarily for the meat selection (but also donuts!) - and the Smoking Barrel did not disappoint. Jo was super helpful in the planning stage, the FOH staff were amazing at taking time with us (even sang Happy Birthday), and the food was amazing. Meat. Donuts. Milkshakes. 8/8 people were completely satisfied and happy! Thanks again.

The Park Cafe Marahau is a popular spot with both locals and visitors. The atmosphere is relaxed and unique, offering a groovy vibe that captures the essence of Golden Bay. The attentive service and friendly staff contribute to an exceptional dining experience. The menu features a variety of dishes, including possibly the best pizzas in New Zealand, such as the highly recommended Vege Frizbee. Whether it's for dinner or breakfast, the food consistently impresses guests with its quality and flavor.
I can’t rate this place highly enough. The most delicious food and friendly welcoming staff. We did a 24km section of the Able Tasman track and this little gem is conveniently located right at the entryway to the track so we stopped for a celebratory drink upon arriving back to Mārahau and then came back later for dinner and desert… safe to say we were definitely not disappointed! We will be back one day :)
N.R — Google review
The location and view is pristine right before you start the track. Good ambiance with music and decor. However, the service is quite lacking, especially the two female staff who aren’t friendly. The portion is quite small for the price. Would you really spend $20+ for half of a taco? Would recommend packing your own food and maybe grab a drink here instead? Either way, don’t feel comfortable recommending this place.

Lovely location down by the water. The bed was very comfortable the best bed I have stayed in away from home. Shower pressure was amazing. We had dinner here which wasn't that great the pizza was overcooked and the base was dry and the pork belly was very dry and not overly appealing with a very large amount of kimchi in the side. Would definitely stay again but maybe not have dinner next time.

This is my first time staying here and and I must say WOW!! also I dined downstairs at the bar style restaurant and I must say the lamb shank and vegetables was absolutely amazing and the passion fruit cheesecake just made the whole entire dining experience worth it , the owner of the establishment even lit the fire for a fine dining experience , the staff were very friendly and really easy to deal with and weren’t in your face throughout your meal like some places I’ve been they were also happy and had a very positive energetic vibe which made me smile whilst enjoying my meal , an absolutely beautiful place right by the water secluded away from the busy city and a Lovely ambiance inside and in there outdoor setting , a lot of car parking off the street aswell is always a bonus , nice comfortable bed and shower I would highly recommend this place if your ever in Nelson

⭐️ Restaurant Review: Great Potential, Needs Management Attention This venue has a fantastic outdoor area that is spacious and ideal for families, complete with a giant outdoor chess game and a great grassy area for kids to run and play. The staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly, demonstrating a genuine commitment to service even under pressure. Areas for Improvement: * Seating/Weather Protection: The need for umbrellas is critical, not just for sun/rain but due to the significant presence of seagulls. Having full table coverage is essential for customer comfort and safety. * Service Efficiency: On this Sunday visit, the facility was severely understaffed. The queue for re-ordering drinks was consistently long, taking around 20 minutes due to only one staff member managing the line initially. I felt very sorry for the staff, who were clearly "run off their feet" but maintained their friendly demeanour despite the impossible situation. This seems to be a management/owner issue and not a reflection of the hard-working employees. * Live Music Volume: While the live band was a nice addition to the outdoor atmosphere, the volume was slightly too loud. We had to almost yell to hold a conversation. I would suggest having a technician adjust the sound level to a more comfortable background volume. Overall: A lovely spot with excellent staff and great family amenities, but the owners need to urgently review their staffing levels and outdoor setup (umbrellas) to match the facility's capacity and improve the overall customer experience.

Beautiful location in Collingwood for a stop to eat. Lovely outdoor seating with shade and a little play area for children also. High chairs available. Sadly no changing table despite all these other amenities for kids. No vegan options on the menu but staff were able to make the vegetarian burger vegan. Would be great to have some more plant based options available, and nothing wrong with having curly fries on the menu :) pottery area was gorgeous! Loved having a peak whilst we waited for our food

Looking forward to lunch but the cook was a no show. Only a seafood chowder and whats in the display cabinet. Well made Latte & Mocha. Chowder was super creamy and full of seafood but too rich for my palette. Quiet with plenty of seating.

As the only cafe open on a rainy day, we were drawn to the courthouse cafe and were pleasantly surprised. We ordered a diverse selection, including Eggs Benedict, hot chocolates, coffee, scones, and cake. The drinks were expertly prepared, and the service was truly exceptional. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. After a brief wait, all our food and drinks arrived promptly. The eggs bene for $24 was very nice but very small portion and had me wondering if they forgot the rest. The cafe was bustling with activity, a testament to its popularity. While the noise level was high due to the lively atmosphere, it didn't feel cramped. However the noise and standing around of people all around you wasn't ideal if you don't like a busy and loud environment.

Stefano's Pizzeria is a great place to go for pizza in Nelson. They have a variety of different types of pizza, and they also make their own dough. They have a traditional stone oven, so the pizzas are really crispy. The prices are good, too.
Took the kids for classic wood fired pizza today, food was outstanding. Kids typically eat 1 or 2 slices of pizza from the bigger franchise pizza places, they both ate over half of their small size pizzas - we'll definitely be back

Well the food is okay the place is easy to locate , the people are nice but , the service is between bad and awful and the worst that they play it cool like nothing happend , sat us down without a menu waited 10 minutes (tried to bring polite) nothing happend until they asked us if we would like to order then they realized that we don't have menus to order, another waiter came and took the order yet the surprise was that he didn't take it fully which kept me waiting for another pizza for 40 minutes yet it didn't come and when I asked him for it he said I didn't know you wanted another pizza , I dont know if he just didn't want to take the order or he has hearing problems , but i assured to him and he repeated after me the order and I confirm meaning they just don't want to make another pizza for me , either way it ruined the whole experience and impact the way I see the place , I wouldn't recommend this place due to my major disappointment 2/10

I feel bad for the negative reviewers that had a bad meal at Stefano’s, because we just enjoyed a delicious meal of fresh salads and two very yum pizzas (Margherita with sausage and artichoke, and a Capricciosa). As a 40-something male who grew up in the 80s, loving motorbikes, jet planes and movies, when I heard that a new Top Gun was in the works, I was a happy chap! A group of similar aged friends and I got together, and thought that a nice precursor to the movie would be...Beer, wine and pizza! We booked a table for 6 and off we went! Firstly, the staff here are incredible. We immediately felt welcome, and were quickly seated and greeted by staff who were friendly and enjoyed a bit of banter. We asked for some advice around a wine option., and the gentleman who served us recommended a red which went PERFECTLY with our meal. We ordered 3 medium pizzas for the table, and don't let the size fool you, these were huge! The first pizza was the Napoli, the anchovies and capers were a great balance, and this was a favourite of the table. The second pizza was the Padrino, as we have some blue cheese fans amongst us. This is a MUST TRY if you are a blue cheese fan. The ham and salami sit well with the cheese, and the capsicum provides a nice burst of freshness. The third pizza was a vegetarian, as we had a couple of those in the group also! And they were not disappointed! I even had a piece of this, and as a pretty keen omnivore, I was sated. The artichokes provided some good texture and the pizza was light and tasty. Overall - This place makes a banging pizza dough, and this is what can make or break a good pizza. All of the ingredients were fresh and you could tell that experience and care has gone into constructing each pizza. Do it, you wont be disappointed.

We got takeaways. The food was ready when expected, and the staff friendly and professional. The satay beef on veges has become one of our new favourite dishes, but wouldn't get the sweet and sour pork or duck on noodles again. $80 for takeaway dinner for 4 felt a bit steep (though the duck option added a bit), but worth trying on a monday when everything else is closed. Transparent pricing gives different cost for the different options, and there is lots of variety to choose from. The restaurant looked clean, tidy and comfortable for those dining in.

Lovely thai food, made how we like it. After living in thailand we decided to try this restaurant during our travels, it did not disappoint, although not authentic Thai, as it's made for westerners, it was perfectly made and we got to meet the thai chef who was very nice and spent some time chatting with us. All the staff are friendly and helpful, and service was efficient. We went 2 nights in a row as we loved it so much. Definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking thai food.

Absolutely dreadful experience. I went there expecting a pleasant dinner, and instead, I got a sneaky $7 charge tacked onto my bill for ordering a "lunch special" during dinner hours. Let me be clear: there was NO mention of this surcharge anywhere on the menu, and the server didn't bother to inform me when I ordered. It's not even about the $7 itself; it's the sheer audacity of hiding fees like that. It feels like a cheap, underhanded tactic to squeeze a few extra bucks out of unsuspecting customers. I asked the staff about it, and they just shrugged and said, "That's how it is." No apology, no explanation, just a blatant disregard for customer satisfaction. The food was mediocre at best, but this hidden charge left a truly sour taste in my mouth. I will not be returning, and I strongly advise anyone considering dining here to double-check their bill and ask about any potential hidden fees. Avoid this place if you value transparency and honest business practices.

Went there for dinner this week with two friends, and we all really enjoyed our experience. We ordered the nachos and two pizzas and all of it was absolutely delicious! Also, the size of the nachos was very generous. Moreover, it was a very busy night as it was bingo night, but we still got our food very quickly! I would not hesitate in going back. Thanks to all the staff for a fun evening and the finger licking good food!

We had a great meal here for my wife's birthday. The owner went out of her way to make our evening special and we thank her for it. We had the steak for dinner and it was cooked to perfection, going very well with the wine. Highly recommend it!

Great food, Nachos are excellent! Pizza has a fresh made thin base and great toppings to choose from. Friendly staff, relaxed beach vibe, neat atmosphere. The evening entertainment is fantastic! AJ is a talented one man band pumping out all of the classics. I look forward to coming back regularly. Thanks guys, see you soon!

Mussels with noodles was really bad, the mussels had a sour after taste, as did the soup. Garlic bread was good. The service was very good, the poor guy was on the bar, the waiter, and clearing the tables. He had alot to deal with and was very pleasant, friendly, and accommodating. Great atmosphere outside.

These guys were amazing with accomodating to my dietary requirements (Coeliac, no seed oils, no sugar, Carnivore diet) They were able to cook the muscles in only butter and provided butter on the side too, was absolutely delicious! - the cooked butter tasted so good I was using the shells as a spoon to scoop it up to drink. My husband had the Thai Salad and he enjoyed it.

Super fun filled tavern with live music and a pool table kept us entertained all night. Come here for the atmosphere and vibes rather than fine dining.

Was scared because of reviews score, but really was ok! Food came faster than expected, cold beer on tap in the mean time and everything was decent. It's a bar, pretty good for bar food. Fish n chips hot and good. Pizza crust, premade but not too bad. The brownie dessert fine, apple crisp was really good! Staff working hard and nice.

Forsters Moutere Hills is a magnificent restaurant with breathtaking views. The exterior resembles a cabin, while the interior is elegant and sophisticated. The cuisine is exceptional, with standout dishes such as the delightful bulled pock belly and perfectly cooked chips. For dessert, one can indulge in a heavenly honey comb and white chocolate cheesecake. The staff provides excellent service, ensuring a wonderful dining experience.
Thoroughly recommend. We enjoyed a lovely, and beautifully curated lunch. Relaxed and friendly environment overlooking the vines- request to sit outside if you can on a sunny day. Staff were friendly and efficient and even though it was busy it didn’t feel hectic and it was well paced. We shared the salmon to start and the fish main was beautifully cooked. The ‘tapas’ style longboard was a nice way to enjoy a variety of tastes. Orange cake to finish was the star.

Wow this was an amazing dining experience! We had Friday evening dinner on the patio with a magical view of the vineyards. The food quality for the price was amazing. Loved the wine pairing recommendations. Exceptional service.

Beautiful setting, friendly attentive staff and great food and wine. I enjoyed a wine flight before a stunning lunch (I recommend the beef). A couple of veggie options to choose from so my wife was happy. Leave a little space for pudding, the deconstructed cheese cake is a must.

The problem with eating incredibly delicious food is that eventually it either runs out, or you become too full to eat it. And I’m telling you that Moutere Hills Restaurant has created that most perplexing paradox. This is easily one of the best two restaurants in the Nelson/Tasman district. The views are vineyard perfection. The crew are a group of welcoming, accommodating and kind humans, you feel lucky to spend time with. Jeremy is a delightful host, who you will want to get to see on a regular basis. The chefs and co are magicians who feed you a spread that will lead to the problem I described earlier. We thoroughly enjoyed our asparagus salad and uniquely created salad of the evening- all so fresh, you could have been eating them while sitting in the garden. We luckily also ordered the chicken with pickles starter, which I could describe, but I’ll just urge you to order it (and thank me later). The mains were a longboard of delights (that rotate regularly), which, if the yums of the day float your boat- get it! Also, the market fish of the day was snapper with an assortment of miso and vegetables that were perfectly paired. And for dessert, we boggled at 5 textures of orange, a variety of delicious items (sorbet to cake to merengue to fresh slices to…) that stunningly celebrate the most cheerful of citrus. There is no way you leave here unsatisfied. It’s a gastro-extravaganza.

Went here for a birthday lunch food was beautiful and delicious, my issue was the service. Had multiple different waitress who lacked communication between all of them, it really seemed like no one willingly wanted to serve us. Felt a bit discriminated and unwelcome which was a shame as the food was amazing. Also I mentioned on the booking reservation that it was my birthday and did an add on for whatever a ‘birthday plaque’ is and wasn’t acknowledged, but that was the least of my worries. Would love to come back but not with the terrible service I was given, extremely disappointed. We were also seated in a corner with no view when there was multiple seats available, this was a reservation. It really felt like we were being profiled 0/10 service please treat all guests equally :(

Was given the menu to choose from was looking forward to the Samon 10 minute later when we ordered they said they where not serving that today.disapointed i had the Crudo fish and a small bowl of chips 44 bucks. Glass of chardonnay 18 bucks. Lot of money for a little. 4 bucks of fish pencil filings and a dozen peas. Partner enjoyed her food and drink. Went into town for dessert. It's getting fare to Exspensive to eat out at these places. Good luck guys not more me anymore.

Nestled in a charming garden setting, this cafe is perfect for those seeking a relaxing lunch after an adventure, like cycling from Rabbit Island. Guests rave about the beautifully presented dishes; the prawn and kumera fritters are particularly noteworthy, complemented by an exquisite onion jam and fresh salad. The atmosphere is inviting whether you choose to dine indoors or enjoy the lovely outdoor seating.
We came for a cold drink here this afternoon. The sodas were nice, service friendly and atmosphere pleasant with fresh flowers on every table and plenty of seating options both indoors and out. Our highlight was definitely Bella the cafe cat! She was very friendly and entertained us on our visit

The Best Café in Richmond! I honestly can’t recommend this place enough. I've been here twice in the last two weeks and both times were a solid 10/10 — from the food to the coffee, everything was spot on. The chicken focaccia is massive — packed with heaps of chicken and served on delicious, fresh bread that I’m pretty sure they bake themselves. Great value too — the portions are super generous without the price being high. On my second visit, I came with friends — one had her toddler, who loved playing in the fully fenced playground right next to where we sat. It felt really safe and made the whole experience extra relaxing for everyone. Another friend brought her newborn in a pram — the layout made it easy to get around, order, and settle in without any hassle. I had the eggs benedict and it was just as amazing. There was a cozy fire going, and the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming. Just an all-round perfect café experience. I’ll definitely be back!

What a find! We were recommended this cafe from a bike hire place. We cycled from Rabbit Island and were in need of a well earned lunch. We sat outside at a lovely table in the garden. Our food and drinks came quite quickly and were all beautifully presented. I had the prawn and kumera fritters which was so delicious, the onion jam was amazing and lots of salad included. My friends had a build your own meal and a garden breakfast. They didn't enjoy the carrot rostis unfortunately but loved everything else. The cakes in the cabinet looked amazing but we were full and had to get back on the bikes. Would definitely come again.

Little India at 269 Hardy Street is also known for its reasonably-sized meals on the lunch menu ranging from $12 to $17.
One of my favourites, has never let me down! I have been going here since 2017 and took my sister here today. They gave us free spring rolls as it was a special day for the restaurant. She ordered the green curry with chicken (medium spice) and it was so flavoursome, without being too spicy, great for a cold day! I got the stir fried rice noodles with beef which is a usual for me and they’ve always been consistent in delicious flavour with lovely fresh vegetables. Great prices for lunch and the service has always been exceptional here, very attentive! 110% recommend to Thai lovers 🫶🏼

Been a regular customer at Tongtara since 2018, so all the more galling what happened. Put in a take away order last Sunday and picked it up. They've changed to paper bags for the order presumably to cut down on plastic use. Drove home with order on son's lap. When we got back to the house he said it was leaking over his lap. Picked it up at which point the bag was disintegrating and leaking over my lap and then trying to get to house the bag fully disintegrated and dropped the meals over the drive. I called the restaurant and their first reaction was 'that couldn't possibly have happened' (why would I be ringing?). Their second reaction was 'well it was fine when I left the restaurant therefor my fault'. Their third reaction was disinterest and 'what do you want me to do about it?' Given that I was a long time customer I felt I would be treated better than just being a trouble maker and would at least have had some acknowledgement of the issue and an apology. Consequently they have lost a regular customer - beware if you have issues they don't treat you well

As a frequent consumer of Thai food, it was time to give Tongtara a try. While I had eaten here before, it had been years ago. I remember my first experience fondly, so was looking forward to this visit. We were seated, served a bottle of water and drink orders were taken. The drinks arrived and we then ordered our dinner. We took advantage of the Silver level group deal, 4 people get a selection of entrees, a main each and ice cream all for $34 each. The first course arrived quickly. The chicken nibbles were tasty, although somewhat small serving, A lot of vegetable spring rolls and some other bits and pieces. Our mains arrived and they were fine. The most successful was the beef masaman, which was rich a flavourful. I ordered the chicken cashew nut stir fry and it was tasty. The vegetables could be a little fresher, but the flavour was good. The only complaint here was that the main took 30+ minutes to come out after the entrees were finished, and this time was noticeable. Dessert was ice cream with a sauce selection and this was OK too. Not the best Thai in town, I prefer Chokdee on the corner, but a good effort and appreciate the service.

Went for lunch with my sister and the service was amazing, So friendly! They gave us 4 free spring rolls to share due to it being a special day for the restaurant. I got the green curry with chicken and it was sooo tasty and my sister got stir fried noodles with beef and she loved it! Food and service was so good! Was a bit quiet in the restaurant so it felt a little weird but it made it easy to be able to have a good conversation. Love love love Tongtara and will definitely be going back as soon as possible 😁❤️

The best roti I have ever had in my life, light and cooked to perfection. Had the rice paper spring rolls as another starter, fresh and tasty dip, have had a little more punch/acidity in the dip elsewhere which is purely a personal preference. Had a Thai classic, Green Curry for the main, VERY flavourful and well presented, generous portion of rice. Partner had the crispy tofu salad she was a fan, gone before I could try it. The main highlight aside from a delight to the taste buds and ann affordable meal was the service. Felt very warm and welcoming, prompt but not pushy, attention to detail. We will be going back and taking friends/family.

They seemed to seat all the young families in one area to give other diners a peaceful experience which was also brilliant.

Absolutely blown away with the service we received tonight. All the staff were super friendly, polite and the service was so quick. Such a relaxed atmosphere. My hubby ordered his meal to be Gluten Free so we could share meals, he ordered a side of Mushroom Sauce (not gf) and the manager came to talk to us about the fact it was not gluten free and would put in in a side dish to prevent cross contamination. The extra care blew my mind, you do not find this at many restaurants and to be honest most places I have dined at lately the service has been less than average but not the Lone Star Nelson. If you want good food, great atmosphere and incredible service this place should not be missed. Thank you so much.

On the plus side Coffee was beautiful, so a big applaud to the Barista...however very let down with both meals ordered, the open steak sandwich which we ordered the steak medium cooked was rare and bleeding for the 30+ price tag on this meal you would expect it to be cooked as requested, my chicken and bacon burger was also not to satisfaction, as chicken was not at all tender and had the consistency of rubber and i couldn't bite through it...we abandoned our meals and left very disappointed. I hope Elevation takes this review on board and meals are improved as the price tag on both was very high for a substandard and very below average meal.

Polished, friendly staff. We didn't have to wait long either. Their blackboard menu is always amazing. Reasonably priced. Hot chocolates - on point! Decore is trendy (arty) in it's sustainability, and comfortable. You are not rushed out. It's just a great place to hang out... Can't go wrong with a good ol creamy pasta. 🤌 Edit : Went back for a second time with friends. For $26.50, the lasagna was a very small portion! Smaller than the salad it came with, it was like a Salad with a side of lasagna. Unfortunate as the first meal (see above 'pasta') was really good. Lasagna was still tasty though, so hopefully they can change the serving size next time :)

The large pizza is a good sized dinner for one person which for $20 is steep. The meal itself was well made and tasted of quality. The atmosphere within the takeaway portion of the restaurant was cramped however and I ended up having to wait on a bench outside facing the road. But it is close to the beach which is certainly I good spot to have a pizza

Think the quality has changed dramatically service wise and in takeaway preparations. Takeaways used to be prepared in separate boxes and little sauce cups so that the food don’t get soggy but nowadays they dumbed everything in between two paper plates. And when asked about it, “nothing is the same here!”quipped the chef..

I have loved Nicola's! Had been a few times and Mexican is my fave. Took a friend recently, and we were sat at a table in the middle next to a pillar that we could hardly sit at, it took over 20 mins for someone to come and take our order, while the food doesn't take long, it was cold. Cantina Nicola came highly recommended, however arriving at 1930h two nights in a row they refused service, stating they were closed. I can understand closing early occasionaly if it's quiet, but both nights they had one or more tables seated being served. Very disappointing.

The best & the only authentic Mexican food in Nelson was extremely scrumptious, however you may have to re order your mains because of the portion size. Loved the vibe of the restaurant. Definitely looking forward for our next visit!
Sneha B — Google review
Such lovely decor and a really chill vibe. We enjoyed the margaritas at $18 a piece. The cerviche was excellent ($24), although I would have liked more of it for the price, as we're the small tacos at $10 each - esp the fish taco yum! The coconut flan was delicious but I only remembered to photograph it when almost gone! The churros were a little over cooked, but still tasty. Would definitely return as the service was also friendly and fast.

We came in late on a Wednesday evening and were the last to order. The staff were fun and friendly and we were happy to enjoy a good atmosphere and have a great dinner. Really generous margarita and a surprise when we left!
Jasper G — Google review
Cute atmosphere and good drinks, but the food itself is pretty underwhelming. I feel people just think it's good because there aren't any other Mexican restaurants in Nelson to compare it to... Re-reviewing after a recent re-visit: It started off poorly where we were asked to come 15mins later as they had overbooked. A friend also mentioned how they were asked to come an hour earlier that week as "it was a quiet night". When we arrived the waitress refused to let us order entrees before mains - when we asked why, she said "I don't know". When the food came out they then missed one persons order all together and didn't even apologize. Finally when their order arrived, the male server had a mouthful of food while he was delivering the food. Overall, the food (other than the twice-cooked chips) was incredibly underwhelming and overpriced and the service was super unprofessional.

Nestled in the charming town of Collingwood, the Collingwood Tavern is a delightful spot that perfectly captures the essence of local hospitality. This inviting tavern boasts a warm and friendly atmosphere, making it an ideal place to unwind after exploring the area's rich gold mining history or stunning natural landscapes. With both indoor and outdoor seating options, guests can enjoy their meals while soaking in beautiful views, especially from the sunset balcony.
With not many options open late between Collingswood and the Farewell Spit, this became our only option. However, I would have to say the staff is very friendly. I enjoyed the food, and the beer while I sat outside on a perfect weather day and watched the sunset reflecting off the water. They did forget one item on our order, but it wasn't enough for me to think this place shouldn't be recommended as they are human sometimes things get missed. The food was great, the staff is friendly, and it's worth the stop, catch them around sundown and watch the sun set next to the water as you sit just meters away.

Lovely setting in a tiny wee historical town. Food as you would expect for a pub just a little on the small size but very tasty. This has to be a reflection on the current economic situation as I've noticed a common theme over the last few months the price of the meals are around the same but plates are getting smaller. Like everyone in this industry they have to make their money somehow so don't let this small detail put you off from still going out. They need us to survive. Pub inside is just that it's a pub so don't expect the Hilton. A couple of gaming machines and a pool table. Large restaurant area if the weather is a bit dodgy to be sitting outside. We were lucky to strike a gorgeous day so were able to sit outside and if we wanted we could have also sat over looking the estuary. One of the many that I will go back to some point. Don't forget to shop at the small number of shops in the area. Again they need us to survive.

Service was outstanding. the lady behind the counter was like a busy bee , and she was doing everything in her power to make my visit perfect!!! Beautiful food , cold drinks , lovely surroundings, and very clean and tidy building. I highly recommend this place!!! I was in Collinwood visiting a friend and stayed in the old post office building across the street, so I didn't have far to go to enjoy the fantastic friendly service on offer .... It's a must if you are thinking of dining or a relaxing drink by the ocean , as the ocean is right at its back door with shade and seating for all the family members! Can't wait to visit again soon. Great little tavern. Beautiful scenery, great service and friendly staff. Glad we stopped in here for a few cheeky beverages. They have a great little takeaway area too for some delicious greasy food when you're done. Worth a visit.

Lamb shank was good, but the pre-frozen vegetables were bad. Seafood platter was greasy and very average, batter made everything worse. Roast beef was just ok. Overall would probably avoid but not too many options really. Beer on tap was good.

Great family feeling bar, with plenty of cheap food and beers available for a small town. Has a great sunset balcony at the back, and plenty of seats within. Does takeaways, gluten free options, milkshakes, pies, chicken and more. Heaps of beers, RTDs etc in the fridges too if you don't want anything on tap. The burgers are absolutely delicious! I'd recommend the takeaway menu as it is great bang for your buck.

The Vietnamese restaurant Green Bamboo is a great place to enjoy delicious food. The dishes are well-balanced and full of flavor, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant is situated in Nelson, which is a beautiful city to visit, and you will not be disappointed by your visit here.
Food comes out quickly every time. Portions are good and it tastes delicious. The Vietnamese coffee is also such a nice treat. Only been for lunch but the dinner menu and cocktails also look good. Always a favourite spot for lunch whenever I visit Nelson.

Well presented and tasty meals. Kids enjoyed the crispy spring rolls. Dumplings were a bit too dense and tasted like sausage meat. The two curries were delicious but we felt expensive at $32-36 each. Some gluten free options available but I would love the vietnamese pancake to be made GF as I can never have it and it looks so good. Overall, a basic meal for five (two kids under ten) was $191 which is certainly not going to be done often. Kids had juice and two adults had a beer.

Big portions, fair prices, and really friendly staff. The place itself is simple but cozy and clean. Perfect spot for a quick, delicious meal in a relaxed atmosphere.

Also a BIG shout out to Nick who was meeting and greeting the customers as front of face.He remained calm ,friendly and coped under a lot of pressure. We had the Seafood Gratin and a Mediterranean Vege Lasagna, the salad with the Gratin had lots of different little combinations including even thinly sliced strawberry!Would highly recommend this restaurant and I hope Nick is on a good wage as he is Gold!!

The setting was rustic and the communal dining experience encourages conversation and a relaxed atmosphere.

It is rare to get a combination of great staff, and great food, but we found it here. Staff extremely accommodating, as busy as they were, and so very attentive. Quick to seat us at a toddler friendly table, and provide paper and pencils for their entertainment. There was a wait on food, that was explained at the time of ordering, and the pizza was well worth the wait.

The Stables Tavern & Restaurant is a typical pub in a provincial town that offers decent food. While it may not fully qualify as a restaurant, the meals are enjoyable. The steak lacked mustard initially, but the chef managed to procure some upon request, which was greatly appreciated. The only downside was the limited beer selection, consisting only of lagers and artificial ales. It would have been nice to have real ales like Kilkenny or Sprig and Fern IPA on tap.
Really friendly staff, and they even give adults the option of ordering off of the kids menu (you just don't get the drink), which suited my elderly parents very much, as they are not big eaters. Everything was well prepared and came out in a timely manner. I asked for no tomato in my burger, and not long after, the chef came out to double check it wasn't an allergy thing, as the relish is made of tomato too, and I truly appreciate they went to that effort to check. Would happily go back in a heart beat :)

Food took over an hour to come out after we were told a 30 minute wait, the table next to us got their food a good 15 minutes before us even though we ordered well before them and were both only tables of 2. We got the chicken burger which was super chewy and over cooked with a huge white chunk of lettuce no leafy greens at all. The breakfast meal only came with 1 piece of sausage that felt microwaved, no hash browns but some potato type sticks that were gross. Didn’t eat most of the meal. Weren’t offered a second round of drinks not that we wanted any but not the point. We used to come here every trip to Nelson but will not return again. Disappointing.

Our experience here was absolutely stellar! Beautifully presented and cooked pork belly and healthy portions that’ll leave you full for the rest of the day - Try the garlic bread, it’s truly the best! Great banter from staff who seemed happy to be there, and our meals were served by the chef which was a really nice personal touch. Shame we didn’t stay for dessert! Would highly recommend.

It is the night before our daughters fly back to their cities of residence, so a perfect opportunity to go out for a bite! We sat down and chatted out our options, and what each of us felt like eating (A common dilemma!) and through previous experience and some recommendations we came up with The Stables in Richmond. When we entered the venue we were greeted by a busy room, with a few people standing around enjoying their after work drinks. A good jovial atmosphere. There were also plenty of staff, and we were seated promptly. Once drinks were ordered we settled down to peruse the menu, and found a number of items which suited our moods for the night. Pork Ribs - These were very tender (perhaps a little too soft) and the sauce could have been a little sweeter, but overall these were enjoyed and the plate was left only containing bones. The side was a coleslaw. Smoked Chicken and Mushroom Carbonara - This was delicious. The pasta seemed to be made in the kitchen, and was cooked to perfection. The chicken and mushroom was flavoured well and cooked nicely. Perhaps a little more sauce, but this is a personal preference. Chicken Salad - This was a child sized serving, but was ample for an early 20s lady! The salad was really good with some amazing flavour and fresh vegetables. The chicken was cooked and flavoured well. Southern Chicken with Potatoes fried in Duck fat - The chicken was cooked well, being nice and moist, and the southern coating was good with a bit of fire from the pepper. The potatoes were a star of the night with all having a taste and smiling at the experience. We also had a seafood platter - this consisted of 4 Mussels, cooked well. A cold smoked salmon fillet. Salt and Pepper Calamari. Prawns in a seafood mayonnaise. Deep fried fish and a couple of sauces. This was a great starter with everything cooked well and with fresh produce. Overall it was a good pub meal experience. The price was good and the food was good. We will be back!

It's just a shame that the atmosphere was spoiled when we discovered that the place supports Gaza and the Palestinians... It would have been very nice if the place and the owner had checked the facts before supporting... But facts are probably not their concern... Certainly not historical facts... It's a shame because the history books indicate otherwise... So with great regret I cancel my recommendation to visit the place... And stay away from places that take one-sided positions without checking the facts. It's a shame that the owner forgot one important fact and that is the second Holocaust that was done to the Jews... On October 7, 2023... I ask myself whether the owner of the place would have tolerated and contained missiles on his house for decades and finally a massacre of Jews or alternatively New Zealanders???? I wonder what the answer is...??.

"The Views" Vegetarian Restaurant in Kaiteriteri has received positive feedback from visitors. The restaurant offers a variety of delicious vegetarian dishes that even non-vegetarians and gluten-free individuals have enjoyed. The fusion of flavors in the meals is exceptional, and the presentation is beautiful. The wait-staff are friendly and provide excellent service. Guests have praised the vege stack, lasagna, vegan cauliflower dish, and manuka cream brulee as particularly delightful.
Amazing vegetarian food with a variety of tasty options. Rather small servings but that means there was more room for starters and dessers (which I enjoyed!) amazing view. Nice to be able to not only eat a veggie burger as a vegetation but to have so many delicious options. Would definately come back again! Recommend booking in advance.

The meals were well presented but didn't hit the mark for the price. I feel like their is no actual chef in the kitchen and maybe more a cook. Meals were luke warm and just didn't match to what others have shared on Google. Very small portions at $30 for a entree size main.

Decided to try this vegetarian restaurant as menu looked interesting, pleased to say it did not disappoint, really nice tasty food and not you normal veggie offerings which makes a change. Reasonable price for three courses and a bottle of wine, staff were lovely too, would definitely recommend and will return when we are next up this way. Thank you The Views, just keep doing what you're doing, it works 👍

Delicious food! The pasta with the vegetarian corizo was amazing and also the vegan cauliflower dish was great! Service is also very friendly - we liked it a lot and can definetely recommend it!
Peter D — Google review
After a good hype up from friends, we were beyond disappointed with our experience. Our entree was bad enough to make us cancel our mains and take our business elsewhere. $21 for 3 measly pieces of jackfruit, served on half a piece of lettuce, was rather appalling and the flavour profile didn't do it any justice. As big lovers of food, we have a genuine appreciation for the price of fine dining. But unfortunately this was the polar opposite and it left a bitter taste in our mouths. Fortunately, we voiced our concerns and were given 20% off the dish when we departed. We were gutted, because our journey to Kimi Ora was filled with excitement and we were already discussing how it was going to be our new regular place. The positives here, are that the staff were pleasant, the view is beautiful and the area makes you feel like your overseas. Thanks for trying to make up for the disappointment. But please seriously reconsider your price points and your portions.
Culain W — Google review
Very average food. Not a chef designed or prepared vegetarian menu, rather quickly thrown together ordinary food. Certainly not value for the prices. The decoration and ambiance is dated and boring. The wine list is average also. This place relies on the fact that there are few options in the area.

The Lemongrass restaurant, situated on Queen Street in Richmond, offers a delightful dining experience with its spacious venue that can accommodate up to 70 people for lunch or dinner. Patrons have praised the promptness at which their meals were served, along with the generous portions on each plate. The delectable dishes received no criticism and were highly recommended by those who dined there. Moreover, even on a Wednesday night, the restaurant appeared to be busy; hence making prior reservations is advisable.
My friend and I went here for lunch and had the Duck Noodle soup. It was delicious and very generously proportioned! The duck was 'melt in your mouth' and the broth was soo yummy! The noodles were 'next level' and the added crunch of the bean sprouts finished off an overall tasty delight. Highly recommend this soup.

Just had a meal at Lemon grass. Booked table for 4. We arrived to almost empty restaurant (1 couple dining) We asked to sit in the window looking out onto the main street. Maitre D said that table only set up for 3.. sat in another window set up for 4 no view and very bright lighting. Food was ok - seafood tempura basket (perhaps not tempura) nice not hot. Paid and mentioned this to Matrie D who came to our table to clear while we were finishing up. At the table he spooned through all the uneaten batter. 2 trainee wait staff were nice. One was cleaning men's during dining hours. 😩👎

We had a really lovely dinner here. All of the food was just outstanding and the service and atmosphere were great too. We were looking forward to giving them a lovely 5-star review. However it looks a lot like they intentionally tried to overcharge us... When we went to pay they said it would be $123, and I asked to see the itemised bill (which I typically do at restaurants to check it is correct - as often it isn't). Without hesitation he instantly screwed up the piece of paper that had already been printed, and a second later printed another one which he gave to us. It was all correct but the total was $115. We paid that, but asked why he had originally said $123. He said that he had noticed that the cost of the corkage was wrong and he corrected it, so he was going to charge us $16 (for two people and one bottle) but changed it to $8 which is of course what it should have been. This explanation didn't make sense given the speed which he noticed, screwed up one bill, made a change and reprinted it - all within a second or two. It looks like they have a standard practice of overcharging on corkage and only fix it if you ask for an itemised bill. I recommend to the restaurant that they print the itemised bill for all customers to check, and then charge them once all is confirmed to be OK. This standard practice will show they are no longer trying to rip customers off. Such a pity as other than that, this place was just lovely.
