Nestled away from the hustle and bustle, The Baker's Coffee Shop is a charming French-style café that beckons with its rustic allure. Known for its mouthwatering baked goods, this hidden gem offers everything from artisanal breads to irresistible almond croissants and cinnamon morning buns. It's an ideal retreat for those seeking a cozy spot to enjoy a cup of coffee alongside delectable treats.
The coffee here was the best I had in NZ, so good. The staff are lovely, and kindly made us a couple of ham baguettes in the early morning before our road trip. The baguettes were very tasty and top quality. Thank you team!

This hidden away cafe is worth the effort to find. Not visible from the street it is on ground floor of a Radiology business. only a small sandwich sign outside. We arrived 10am on a Monday and I was a lil disappointed at the small selection of cabinet food available... particularly after the reviews I had read..... But the chocolate and date pastry was delish. The decor style is just a pleasure to the eye and service was both polite and prompt.
Josephine P — Google review
Good coffee and hot chocolate. Art on the hot chocolate was particularly spectacular. No WIFI though meaning I unfortunately had to engage in some conversation.
Daniel T — Google review
Great place, great coffee/earl grey and the almond croissant are amazing. I came here two times, just for the croissants. Staff is very friendly. No credit cards so don’t forget to bring cash

The interior design feature here has got my attention firstly . The old pieces plus new stuff works well. The tile paved on entrance floor and also some on kitchen wall,The kitchen shelve, the old bench desk second hand cabinetry, the old wood fire frame and the new concrete curve wall etc, all match comfortably well. I like sitting here for eating embraced by such nice atmosphere
Haiying S — Google review
The BEST almond croissants. Catered for our friend's wedding brunch beautifully, and so easy to collect! Thanks so much for looking after this aspect so well. The wedding was epic! Pictured is two examples of the wedding brunch, including slices of sourdough, pain au chocolat, and almond croissants supplied by The Baker's Coffee Shop.
Chelle M — Google review
The Bakers has become my regular cafe because the cinnamon morning buns are possibly the best pastries I have ever had. Worth going just for these. As a bonus, the coffee is always delicious and never sour, and the music and energy of the place is top tier. Nelson has so many fantastic offerings for coffee but the bakers has to be one of the best. It’s a little pricey but the whole experience makes it worth it.
Darcy L — Google review
Absolutely amazing pastries. Staffs are super friendly and welcoming. This will be my last cafe time in NZ. Thank you for making me good memories. I will miss the bread mmmmm. Atmosphere in the cafe is warm and cozy. I love it.

Bakery
The Bakery & Cafe is a charming spot known for its homemade breads and traditional Nordic baking using local ingredients. Visitors can enjoy a variety of freshly made pastries, eclairs, tarts, and cakes while also taking home a loaf of freshly baked rye or sourdough bread. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make it a delightful place to indulge in treats like apple pie slices, brie rolls, almond croissants, and more.
This was the exact type of bakery/cafe we were looking for! Very small and unassuming cafe from the outside but the coffee was great, and the croissants were unreal! We chose them based off a recommendation from a local in line ahead of us when we couldn’t decide what to go for! Many fresh baked goods, a veggie lentil pie

Travelling through the South Island and Nelson was our last stop before heading to the ferry. Stopped here for a roadie coffee and scone. The Best !!! Date and Orange Scone. 10/10. Coffee 10/10. Only teeny issue was no decaf and shop a bit crammed with a few people in there. Minimal really. If it were my local I would be there every day.
Debbie F — Google review
Beautiful little bakery with an amazing variety of bread & pastries and very friendly staff. As I couldn't decide what to get I had an apple pie slice with hot chocolate today and will go back tomorrow to try one of the rolls. Update : the brie roll was very yummy and the almond croissant was just amazingly delicious - a must have if you love marzipan.

I always look forward for their cinnamon bun but I tried the cardamom bun on my recent visit and it is really delicious! Must try cafe when you’re in Nelson.

My most favorite bakery in town. I named this bakery is "Happiness Bakery". It's not only about trying many kinds of tasty pastries but also the taste of happy, joys and happiness that baker has put into them.
Theodora N — Google review
Absolutely melt in your mouth delicious. On par with, if not better than, not only European bakeries but also top bakeries in other major food cities (San Francisco comes to mind) trying their best to recreate that authentic flavor/texture. Highly recommend even if just passing through Nelson as I was.

Amazing food, with great service. If you go here, and I recommend you do, you'll be presented with a wide variety of food that you'll find hard to choose from. If you're passing through Motueka, this place is a must stop.

Fantastic coffee beverages that are larger than expected. The foam on my wife’s cappuccino was perfect. Pantries had great flavor and were a tasty breakfast. Could not recommend this enough.

Wow, I just gained weight looking at the pie and kai cabinet 😋. Popped in for some kai and kāwhe. Got a Mince & Tīhi and Chicken, Bacon, and Tīhi pie. Both were delicious, pastry so soft and buttery. The Mocha was perfect. Wera, chocolatey and tasty. It's definitely a place to call in for some ka pai kai and kāwhe.

Bakery
Nestled in the charming Māpua Village, Māpua Village Bakery is a must-visit for anyone craving delicious baked goods. This delightful café and bakery boasts an impressive selection of savory pies, including standout options like the Chicken Roast Pie and Bacon & Egg Pie, both praised for their perfect filling-to-crust ratio. The flavors are rich and satisfying, with hints of roast chicken and crispy bacon that elevate each bite. But it doesn't stop at savory delights!
OMG! I have eaten a lot of pies in my years and these pies are at the top of my list. Roast chicken actually has the perfect amount of stuffing, an amazing roast flavour possibly a little gravy and roast vege pieces. The beef bacon and cheese, has wickedly crispy bacon, tender beef a lovely gravy mix. The pastry is the perfect wrapper to an amazing experience. Get these to the bakels annual nz pie competition!!! Soooo good!!!
Sam B — Google review
A fabulous selection of baked goods both savoury and sweet. Loads of unique pie fillings like Venison and Chorizo. Cakes were quite expensive at $6+ each but very tasty. Fast service. Lots of shaded seating which was appreciated
Kim S — Google review
I went for my usual feed which is always delicious. But. I am not prepared to wait 15 mins for my two sausage rolls The way you pay and que needs to be looked at with customers looking confused as to where to order and pick up as it’s not clearly marked. Staff were waiting around and with only the one Eftpos people were having to que I had a similar experience last month but thought I’d give the benefit of the doubt. It’s a great bakery if you’re not in any hurry to get your takeaway. Management need to address this as it’s an easy fix with a bit of training of their young staff. Footnote: My visit, as always, was during the week, and you were not busy at the time.
Mark H — Google review
Horrendous pricing. $10 for a pie that whilst was ok, was far from setting the standard locally. Prices on other things in the cabinet also extremely high $6+ for almost everything. Overall considering the prices best avoided Added after reply: The fact you use Big Bens pies as an example says it all. Whereas I was comparing to other local renowned pie outlets. Apples and oranges etc.
Warwick R — Google review
We outta towners and found this place on Google and it definitely is worth the drive to it! Gorgeous looking cafe/bakery with the best pies I have tasted bloody yum chicken ratio to the filling sooo dam good. Ordered the Chicken Roast Pie, Bacon & Egg Pie also Spinach & Feta Roll then we discovered the sweet cabinet and ohhhhh helloo cream donut along with an apple Square slice yummmooo! Worth the drive from Nelson, was that good we drove back the day we left and ordered some to take back up to Auckland. 10/10 for food, service and bakery itself as it has fantastic indoor/outdoor area.

Best assortment of bake goods - if you can’t find something you like you are just not trying - even a good selection of gluten free! Obviously I’ve not tried everything but what I have were very good! The coffee is good and a nice place to start the day before heading off on the great taste trail
Paul S — Google review
One of our favourite spots in Mapua with good gluten free options in seperate cabinet. Coffee can be a bit hit and miss at times but still one of our favourite places to grab a bite to eat.
Cushla H — Google review
Lovely quaint wee bakery, it was busy as. They had two counters operating so they kept up with demand. Pies looked good and I got a massive breakfast sorted for $13. However the steak in the pie was a bit dry indicating it was not seared before being slow cooked. The pastry was lacking butter in the mix but overall it was an average but filling pie. The sausage roll filling was cheaply made, tasted like bread crumb stuffing. Looks and feel of the bakery are good but product is only average on this occasion.

The atmosphere is perfect for breakfast or brunch with loved ones, and the friendly staff ensure that every visit feels special. Whether you're indulging in their famous Steak and Mushroom pie or enjoying a refreshing mixed berry milkshake alongside a blueberry tart, you’re guaranteed quality ingredients and exceptional service.
Maybe the best Steak and Mushroom pie I've ever had, ever. The coffee was also perfect. The staff was very friendly. I can't say more about how impressed I was with my experience here. Must stop in for pie, if you get the chance
NEWS R — Google review
Unfortunately I am a picky pie eater and experienced pie maker. So I returned two pies.. it was a simple error. The first 2 pies had been in the warmer too long. The staff were extremely patient , polite and apologetic dealing with me. Long story short. I got a great pie, for a reasonable price and the best service I have experienced in a very long time. Thanks
Keli W — Google review
$9.50 for a Steak Pie (Gourmet according to them!) and it had TWO pieces of Steak in the whole pie, the rest was just meat flavored gluten - so disappointed and ripped off, I would have been better paying $5 at the bakery 2 doors down. Same for the Chicken & Bacon Gourmet Pie @ $9.50, it had two pieces of chicken and four pieces of bacon. $19 later, two half eaten pies in a bag on the floor of the car. Won't be stopping there again and probably cured of pie cravings for some time.....On a good note, the girl serving behind the counter was great, as was the Vanilla Slice
Vivien W — Google review
very nice place to have breakfast and brunch with the loved ones. Yummy pies and delicious desserts, the only problem is too many options to choose from.

10 out of 10 food, service and coffee! Great things come in small packages, this one stands out in the crowd for us. Absolutely beautiful, thank you chef! We highly recommend stopping if you love a good pie and coffee. Very reasonably priced.

Delight. Made a trip to Murchison for a small part from a trailer company. . Enjoyed lunch so much we made a return. Good as ever. Varity and great atmosphere as surrounded by local Sunday Market. . Well worth a stop over. Off the main road so.parking easy and every park is a short walk as town is very small.
Josephine T — Google review
Holy-heck-a-roony!!! Get your tastebuds here. This was hands down the BEST coffee, best pie, and best slice I've had in a few weeks. This little trailer is jammed to to ceiling with the best food in Murchison, and possibly the region. It is phenomenal. The chocolate ginger slice is perfect, not too much of either, just balanced and lush. The pies are a sour cream pastry, and beautiful. I had classic steak and cheese, and while it was excellent, I envied my son's bean chilli pie after a taste. Oh and all the pies we got were rammed with filling. My steak pie had nice chunks of steak, beautiful cheese, and minimal gravy because it was so well packed. And the coffee was just.... Heaven in a cup. Check if Tutaki is open of you are passing (only open 4 days a week). It is so worth it.

I recently went on a drive from Nelson to explore the area further along the highway. I stopped at a cafe called R across the road, but decided to leave because it was unpleasant and disappointing. Instead, I ended up at The Bakery in Wakefield, which turned out to be a fantastic choice. They had an excellent chicken pie and an outstanding vegetable pie with a delicious swirly potato top that was lightly crispy and sprinkled with sesame seeds.
Did I die and go to heaven? Have meaning to come here for such a long time. I walk in with steak and cheese the standard pie on my mind when oh my lord, a Lambs Fry and Bacon pie .. OMG so very very tender tasty just everything. Washed down with a very nice long black and followed with a super yummy Custard Square! My new stop when I am in this neck of the woods.
Tess C — Google review
Horrible pastry. Not a good pie and overpriced and the veggie is just frozen broccoli?? I’m seriously not sure where all these highly rated reviews come from because you can get a better frozen pie. Skip
Kyle — Google review
Amazing!! A small line up but that just speaks to its popularity. Butter chicken pie was rich and a little spicy but not too much, only lost one star as it could have been a little warmer. The strudel was huge and certainly enough for 2.
MELODY C — Google review
The potato topped pie is on of the best I have ever had, the potato was fluffy and combined well with the very juicy mince underneath. The pastry on the potato pie was just right. We also had a steak and mushroom pie, my wife really liked this, but I didn't feel it was any better than the average steak and mushroom pie in Australia. The coffees were both really good and we got an apricot and apple turnover to go. Well priced and huge serves
Karl C — Google review
This popular bakery has always been a favourite for us but as of recently we have started missing it on our way past. The pies are amazing although the pricing is a bit high but the service has seriously dropped. Have had three occasions now where the staff couldn’t even bother with a smile. We also visited on an occasion where the tills were down and no apologies were given for the wait and when I mentioned that I had to leave and leave my items, the staff were not impressed. Amazing food but service could do with some improvement.
Maddie — Google review
This bakery runs like a well oiled machine! The food and service is top class!
Julie B — Google review
This Bakery was ace! really delicious food and excellently smooth tasting coffee! The server needs to brush up on his listening skills and communicate better with fellow staff so stuff-ups don't happen.. Anyways... Thanks team, i'll be back for sure :)
K H — Google review
If you read some of my other bakery reviews you will understand the relationship I have with that delicious parcel of pastry and filling. A friend and I decided to go for ride on our bikes, and to also share our mutual love of food. An hour or so later we were in Wakefield and contemplating the queue of hungry folks lined up out the door to the Bakery. Making our way to the cash register, I order a ham, cheese and tomato croissant, a savoury gem muffin and a chicken and camembert quiche. The quiche was warmed perfectly, was soft and light, with a delectable crust. The savoury gem (scone) was fresh and tasty. The absolute star was the croissant. With fresh ham and perfectly melted cheese, it was a delicious snack perfectly cooked. Now you may note that I did not get a pie this time around, but I have eaten here before. Some of my favourites include: Steak and Kidney - generous servings of melting steak and large lumps of kidney in a delicious gravy. Steak and Stout - A wonderful hearty pie in a rich, slightly sweet gravy. Lambs fry potato top - Need I say any more?! Bacon and Egg - A kiwi classic perfectly executed. To sum it up, you really can't go wrong here, and everybody will find something to tickle their taste buds!

Kiwi Bakery in Nelson offers a variety of gluten-free options, including a delicious apple pie that received high praise. Customers regret not trying more items from the extensive frozen gluten-free selection after enjoying the pie. Some feel that the bakery could benefit from improved decor and presentation to better showcase its offerings. Despite initial doubts about its appearance, visitors were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the pies and found them to be delicious.
I had their gluten free apple pie and it was really good. I also realised that they have heaps of frozen gluten offerings, but I didn’t wanna buy them without trying the pie 🥧 now I regret this decision given that I am not in Nelson anymore. I think they need a nice deco and good presentation of their offerings so that people would be more willing to taste. When I first saw this place I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go in because it didn’t attract me. Anyways if you are gluten free, this might be one of your favourite places.

Nestled in the charming Tukurua, Bacca Bakery is a delightful gem that specializes in crafting traditional breads and pastries using organic ingredients and locally sourced, stonemilled grains. This boutique bakery offers an impressive selection of wholesome loaves, baguettes, and unique treats like naturally leavened spelt croissants and wholemeal danishes.
What a special little place. Def don’t go thinking you’re getting French Viennoserie because you’ll be sorely disappointed. What you’ll be getting is so much better! Much more flavour and nothing like (thankfully) those 100% white death roller milled flour things that are all air and butter. The Danish’ are especially amazing. So so yum.

Wow! What a find! So unexpected - driving & just around on a corner of the road - a quaint lil wooden bake shack 👌 Took 5 mins to select from an array of delectables. Snapped up the remaining 2 custard plum danish's & a quality as sourdough loaf 🍞 fresh as could be - warm, straight out of the oven 😋 Keep up the great mahi lads 🙌

Been looking forward to this for a while but was very disappointed. Burnt croissant and burnt almond croissant. The loaves were very dense and nothing like traditional sourdough, each to their own in that regard but serving burnt products was very disappointing when I got them home.

A great place to go as a tourist in Golden Bay! Literally the best bakery I’ve been to in a long time. The cinnamon scrolls are the best I’ve ever had. These dudes are doing god’s work with wheat and I love that you BYO your own cup (RIP the climate). Also get a sourdough croissant. xox

If you are in the area come here! ,a local run bakery with amazing sourdough and coffee. If you have your own cup bring one(you can pay a small amount for one when you are here). Really nice guy al hand and home made products - if you want a baguette get in early or pre order 😊

This little place shouldn't be judged on a par with a city cafe. It's a gorgeous wee local one man band bohemian bakery. I loved it's quirkiness and the fact you bring your own cup. The guy was very friendly, coffee and partries were great x

Service - 0/5 the guy manning the market stand was obnoxious and arrogant. Tried charging me extra $2 for a loaf of bread claiming it was larger than normal. So I asked for the "normal" size instead. It was exactly the same. They don't display prices so I guess they just eyeball you and decide on the spot how much to charge. Bread - 4/5 it was very tasty. I've had better, but this one was definitely in the top five. Cinnamon bun - 3/5 tasty but tiny. Nothing special, just your average bun. Croissant - 0/5 it was disgusting. Even the dog wouldn't eat it. As a French descendant I'm insulted. It was sour, dense and vile. Whose idea was it?! As much as taste is a personal preference, there are no excuses for poor customer service. As a minimum, be nice to your customer and acknowledge them before proceeding to rip them off. Don't get the hype. Hopefully, only a matter of time before competition moves in.

Its not very often these days you find artisan breads that are solid, dense, yummy and produced from locally grown grains. Its like traveling back in time eating one of these loaves. Bacca Bakery are doing it right (and also creating a beautiful kaupapa in the bay with their community dinners.) Looking forward to being involved in the next one! Arohanui from your neigbour over the hill.

Devon Bakery makes the best bacon and egg pies in the Neson area, and my partner has tried them all. The staff are friendly, and there is a good selection of other top-quality things to eat and enjoy as well.

What a amazing place. Really reasonable prices, I thought very cheap. Such a range of pies, slices and much more. Try it out your tummy will thank you for it.

Lovely customer service. We had a pepper steak pie, and a steak and mushroom. They were amazing and the meat was so tender.

Unmemorable cheese and steak pie. Unsure why this place has 5 stars.

The best pies and their cinnamon scrolls are so fluffy and yum! Great prices and really nice service.

Le Posh Patisserie in Nelson is a delightful haven for pastry lovers, showcasing the exquisite art of French baking. As I was making my way home, I stumbled upon this charming spot on Haven Road and couldn't resist turning back to explore its offerings. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by an array of delectable treats that transport you straight to France. From flaky croissants to beautifully crafted dessert pastries adorned with fresh seasonal fruits, every bite is a celebration of flavor.
Oooh freak'n la la, these are the best croissants, pains aux raisin etc. this side of the Canal du Midi. They're so authentic that, if you don't speak French before trying these, you will afterwards. C'est un Fait.

Got myself chocolate eclair, butter croissant and almond croissant. I personally like the croissant texture but feel like the chocolate eclair was too sweet to me. Those with sweet tooth can go for their banoffee and other sweet pastries. Didier was really friendly and welcoming.

The strawberry tart is 9/10! The ham and cheese toast is also good but the 🥐 is a little too dry and cold.

There are a number of things which the French are known for: Architecture, Art, Music and Food. Le Posh Patisserie is a wonderful example of the fine art of pastry. I was on my way home from Nelson and happened to be coming around Haven Road at lunch time when I noticed this store. I was so intrigued that I actually turned around at the wharf carpark to go and check it out! Boy am I glad that I did! A lovely little store, it is a little unfortunate that the location does not get as much foot traffic as I imagine that this would give them a lot more custom. Anyway, in I go - The first thing that caught my eye is the array of sweet cakes, slices and treats in the cabinet. A huge array of different things and all looked delicious, but I moved past these as I was looking for something savory. A large toasted sandwich caught my eye, it was almost glowing in the cabinet, golden and brown with cheese and very inviting. I was informed that this was called a Croque Monsieur – the ultimate ham & cheese sandwich! Loaded with 3 different cheeses and golden with a crispy cheese topping, I was sold. The sandwich was loaded with ham, and the cheeses really added a creaminess and nice tartness to the flavour. While I had satisfied my savory requirements I also simply HAD to try the croissant, they were sitting there staring at me enticing me to try one! I purchased an Almond Croissant, you cant come to a store called Le Posh Patisserie and NOT get a croissant right? The pastry was light with a subtle sweetness which allowed the pastry's natural flavours to come through. This was baked with expertise is a must try. All in all this was an awesome lunch visit, and while the location can be a little awkward to get to, it is certainly worth the effort.

UPDATE 16/07/24 What is happening Posh, your Tarts have deteriorated drastically. Bought three today, they were partially broken, thin and did not taste the same as they used to. The Strawberries tasted “old”. You need to lift your game and get the regular chef back. UPDATE 03/11/23 The size of the quiche has deceased and ekkkk, the young woman serving used her fingers to put my quiche into the container - just after using the same fingers to take some cash - not cool and not hygienic. I will give this crowd a miss for awhile. The food is really tasty, the tarts are colourful and Devine. The one part of the business I do not like is the use of plastic for people to take the quiches away in. You can get a range of cardboard takeaway boxes now and cardboard sleeves that are used in conjunction with the double layered paper bags. The plastic containers are large and thick and not a good look in 2023.

They've done a runner apparently, now closed. Was exquisite French patisserie, excellent croissant 🥐 perfect dessert pastries with fresh seasonal fruit flans etc Great lunches, tasty quiche, crunchy filled baguettes, filled crepes and superb hot meals, I recommend their coq au Vin..👌
Ray B — Google review
I missed the French pastries and was overwhelmed by the chocolatine (they call it "pain au chocolat"). I didn't try croissant but seemed to be very good. I recommend to people who want to taste pastries like those made in France ☺️

Popped in because I needed a sweet treat, and the range was amazing! Got a little Banoffee and it was incredible! Will 100% be back for more!

Gloucester's Bakehouse is a beloved bakery in Nelson known for its addictive pies and mouthwatering sausages. The friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere make it a top choice for locals and visitors alike. Whether you're craving a classic steak and cheese pie or a hearty breakfast option, this family-run bakery has you covered. Plus, their delectable donuts are not to be missed. Be sure to arrive early as their popular items tend to sell out quickly!
I've been frequenting here for a long time, I can honestly say the quality and consistancy is well reflected in the pricing. Favourite pie is Steak & Double Cheese followed closely by their creamy Palusami. Don't look past their world class donuts. The staff are really friendly and work hard to please their customers. Always welcomed with a smile and a big "Hello". If you haven't been here yet then you need to forget to take your lunch to work and make the trip in and grab a couple items. You won't be dissapointed!

Not consistent. My partner's pie was amazing. Mine appeared to be missing the filling. Little disappointing. For $7.50 a pie did expect more.
NiK — Google review
We got some pies and coffee for breakfast. My partner couldn't get the pies he wanted as they sold out but got something else. They were quite filling. I loved the bacon and egg one was so nicely made and tasted delicious!

Me and my work mates always come here. We were always served with a smile, and these pies are darn addictive. Some mornings they run out pretty quickly. But man, you won't get enough of these pies!

Been stopping here most mornings for a quick munch, absolutely brilliant food! And the lad running the shop is super nice! I highly recommend the butter chicken pie. It's one of the best I've ever had!
