My wife and I visited last night for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We loved it - the staff were lovely and made us feel very welcome. The complimentary homemade bread, hummus and oil was a real treat along with the pallet cleanser between courses. The food and menu choice we thought was exceptional, as was the wine (Chablis). Brilliant atmosphere. A fantastic evening - definitely recommended.

We had the most incredible experience at Ditto and would recommend to anyone visiting Whitby. The food was incredible - probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Special shoutout to the duck starter and pork main - couldn’t fault them and generous portions. Loved the fact it was a small menu that was done to a high standard as opposed to trying to do too much. The intimate size of the venue meant the ambience was really special, and the waiting staff were amazing - so tentative, personable and patient. Served to every single need, and went above and beyond (with free bread, dips and sorbet to cleanse the palette). Will be back if we’re ever in the area!

I booked Ditto after reading the reviews from other customers. We were visiting Whitby for the first time since 2017. It’s a 5* restaurant in a lovely quiet part of town. Warm welcome, lovely professional front of house but with an informal feel. The food is to die for, everything is cooked, seasoned and presented to perfection without pretentiousness. I would advise booking in advance as there are only 8 tables, most for 2 people.

Incredible starter, which was duck confit, very tasty and beautifully cooked. For the main both me and my partner got the chicken supreme. Unfortunately we thought this was bland and lacking in flavour. The chicken was nicely cooked but the sauce just felt like it didn't excite us like the duck did. We had the chocolate cake to share, this was nice tasting but denser than a black hole made of chocolate. I think this is a great little spot,l with limited options in Whitby, scope it out. Imagine the belly pork main would have been much better

The restaurant was recommended by a friend and it was fantastic advice. The food was amazing, the service excellent. One of the most delicious meals I have ever had. I will be returning the next time I am in Whitby. Booking early is essential to avoid disappointment.

What a lovely coffee shop. It was empty when we arrived, but we decided to risk it and we're very pleased that we did. The lady front of house was very welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious. We had the 2 specials and fries. There are even very nice toilets there. I would highly recommend it.

The food was as expected, fantastic! Best mushy peas I've ever had in my life. My husband was swooning over the fish and chips, and crab bisque...lol Service was fast and our waitress very pleasant. I had a little trouble navigating the stairs to enter, since I use a cane to walk, but I was very happy to see they had a lift inside to get to the floor with the restrooms.

We had lunch here today. They sat us quickly. They are very helpful. The food was amazing cooked perfectly. The best cod and chips I have ever had. Chips light and fluffy. The batter was delicious and crispy. The cod was super fresh and flaky. And that’s coming from a fishmonger of 17 years. Also had their curry sauce. The best chip shop curry sauce I have ever had. This is one of THE best fish restaurants I have ever visited. It was absolutely packed and we are glad we pre-booked. Considering how busy it was, we were served within 15-20mins. Size of the portions were more than expected. You MUST try the Sundaes too. 10/10!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely fantastic experience at The Magpie Café! The food was delicious from start to finish. The fish and chips were top class, crispy, perfectly cooked, and full of flavour. We also tried the seafood medley, and it was amazing, fresh, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. The service was friendly and efficient, making the whole visit even better. Wow! This is such a great spot! It's really popular, but the place is quite big, we waited for 15 minutes without a reservation. The food is so fresh! I really can say that the prawns were the best I've ever had. They were truly a delight. The salmon is really good as well. Fresh and delicious. This was the highlight of our Whitby trip!

We pre-booked to avoid the queue and were seated promptly, though the table was quite small and a bit cramped. Starters were the highlight, especially the goat’s cheese salad and the black pudding bon bons, both packed with flavour. Mains were a mixed bag: the crab and chips were enjoyable, but the salmon salad was disappointing, with the salmon being quite tough. Overall, it was an okay experience, but we’ve had better meals elsewhere in Whitby.

I ordered the Four Fish Platter with Cod, Haddock, Plaice, and Skate Wing. It was my first time trying Plaice and Skate Wing in a fish & chips style, and they were absolutely delicious perfectly cooked with a light, crispy golden batter and fresh flavour. The scallop starter was beautifully presented and just as tasty. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. A must-visit in Whitby for fresh seafood lovers!

I got the beef mince pie and my partner got the steak and stout pie. We loved THEM! The service took a bit of time for them to say hello and seat us— there were only a few tables in at the time and to get our bill. Either than that, everything was lovely. Highly recommend this place to visit and the beef mince. I prefer it to the steak and ale, but that’s just my opinion :)

Literally not joking, the absolute best pie I have ever had! Very decent filling, VERY flavoursome, light short pastry, proper seasoning, mash and mushy peas top notch! Super friendly staff. It would be lethal if I lived local to this place, I’d be in there for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day! You’d have to roll me home!

What a unique and unexpected experience! Having traveled to northern Yorkshire for the day, we walked the shopping district and happened upon this quaint restaurant in a building and ties with deep history dating back to King Charles I's era. Having had bangers and mash and these steak pie for the first time, both were SO good! Everything was drizzled with this yummy gravy, which was so good we had to ask for more. The restaurant decor made it feel like you were sitting in a real pub back in the 1700s. The service was super friendly and fast!

The best pie and mash in the country! We travel from Scotland a couple of times a year just to visit humble pie and mash! We enjoyed our second meal of the week there today and it was gorgeous as ever and the staff cannot do enough for you. I get the chicken pie every time and my husband always gets the steak and ale pie!

Lots of great reviews for this place. I would rate my sausage and black pudding pie as average at best. Mash was OK and peas were hard. Soft drinks only. Not expensive but not great value for a pie. Maybe the others are better.

Such a lovely little restaurant! But mostly down to the Lovely lady at the front of house, super welcoming and friendly. Service was so fast and the food was lovely. The decor was beautiful, so cozy and wholesome. Really brilliant vibes. Would definitely recommend whilst visiting whitby !

My favourites amongst the dishes we ordered are the fish pie and fish cakes. They were absolutely delicious. I personally find the lobster slightly overcooked but it’s fresh and tasty. The restaurant has a very nice view looking out the sea. If you want a window seat I would recommend booking for earlier lunch or dinner which we did. Price wise, I think it is pricier than another establishment we dined at

Although the restaurant has lovely views of the sea, the food itself is unfortunately extremely overpriced for both the quality and portions. The cod didn’t include sides despite the high price and the scampi and scallops were both tiny portions and very overcooked. Additionally, the bathrooms very very cramped and very dirty which was disappointing. Overall, although the views and staff were nice the food was a major disappointment.

What an absolutely delightful experience .We enjoyed the freshest seafood, with the mussels and oysters being particular highlight.delicious ,amazing views and the wonderful company. Highly recommend any one love seafood.

Visited recently for a birthday treat. The food was very nice, was clearly fresh and cooked to order. Would highly recommend.

Great location with a terrace overlooking the harbour. Large and spacious with tables spread out - very comfy. Food was good especially the whitebait which was amazing. My husbands white fish was a little overdone but otherwise would definitely return here.

Abbey Wharf is a wonderfully welcoming spot with incredibly friendly staff who make the visit feel special from the moment you arrive. The views are absolutely stunning—worth the trip alone—and it’s great to see access for all, including wheelchair users. We tried the new Craven cod, and it was awesome—plentiful, satisfying, and beautifully cooked. We also had the salmon, which was epic, and the burgers, which the boys loved. I wouldn’t go so far as to claim it’s the very best fish and chip shop in Whitby, but it’s definitely up there. Highly recommended, especially for that amazing view and thoughtful accessibility.

Dog friendly place for really good food and drinks inn heart of Whitby. We had mussels, huge portions well cooked and with lovely chips and bread for sauce dipping 👌 cod and chips very good, calamari and chips again very good, friendly service great location lots of space, live Music on a Saturday night. Lively atmosphere, great views. Does the basics on food well. Dog friendly. Staff seem a little over it. Expensive on the drinks and extras. Felt a touch exploited by the cost of drinks really. bar staff had lost the will to live a little… you decide on value, receipt in photo. It’s a reliable and friendly place overall - always busy.

We had a fantastic evening at Cosa Nostra in Whitby! From start to finish, everything was perfect. The cocktails were delicious and both our starter and main course were packed with flavour. Very lovely atmosphere, all staff were friendly, happy to chat and probably the best customer service I've had. The food was amazing, we had Tiger prawns for the starter and the chefs special for the main. Thankfully they offer boxes to take the food to go, as I couldn't manage all of it and didn't want to waste it. So I had it the next day. Absolutely will return here.

Came here for an Italian as this place was largely recommended to us. The food is absolutely brilliant! It is a bit pricey however worth the price in my opinion. The service however unfortunately was not great. We felt extremely rushed. Within a minute or 2 of us sitting down they took our drinks order, and before they even arrived no more than a few minutes after that they wanted our food order. We asked for more time and they gave us a minute in which we asked for me and this time they were more patient. Whilst eating our food the wait staff was walking up and down the stairs past the tables. I thought that this was so they could be on hand in case we needed anything. The minute I put my fork down to take a drink they came over to try and take our plates, whilst my partner took our son to the bathroom. I picked my fork back up and they then retreated. It felt like we were being watched and timed to eat our food and unfortunately this dampered our whole experience. One extra positive that we quite liked was that they offered lego boxes to the children who came to help distract them!

Best service in a long time, super friendly and helpful staff and the food was top, so we had a brilliant evening to celebrate a special occasion. We had the prosciutto pizza and the pasta with gorgonzola sauce (to die for), lovely Italian red wine and desserts. Cannot recommend enough!

Nice atmosphere with efficient staff. Compact menu comprising of typical Italian dishes. My starter of mushrooms in a cream source was luke warm which I sent back. However, it was taken away and a new hot dish was presented. The other starters and main courses were very good. The only comment I would make is that the sauces in the starters and two of the main courses lacked seasoning. All of us thought the same. Would we come again? Yes.

Just spent 2 nights here for our 30th wedding anniversary. The room was perfect, we stayed in the Martini suite. Lovely decor, spacious and a comfy bed. The view was an added bonus as well! The staff were all lovely and couldn't do enough for you. We opted to have breakfast in our room, which was spot on. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a posh restaurant in Whitby and we ordered lobster, steak, stone bass, and seafood pasta. It doesn’t have a view as the shops cross the street blocked it. Overall we enjoyed it for the special occasion.

Looked a nice place 2 cocktails for 15 pound sounded nice, however you could not get different cocktails they had to be the same, I asked for a porn star martini which cost 12 pound so went back and asked if I could do the 15 pound deal to be told that cocktails was not included. I realise there was a list of cocktails but felt the staff could have been a bit more helpful. We would have stayed and come back but not now

Didn't stay in the hotel just popped in for a drink and lunch. Everything was really good excellent service. So good I even decided to go back in the morning for breakfast will definitely be back next time I'm in whitby and it's even dog friendly

We were here on holiday last week, and visited this restaraunt pretty late in the evening, but they could not have been more helpful in seating us, and getting us menu's. The staff were very good, explaining everything, service was quick, and the food was delicious, especially those hanging kebabs! Definitley will be back next time we visit.

Lovely setting inside this evening. We both had Chef's specials, Hake with Sag aloo & Bhaji was excellent but the chef's fish pie was disappointing, description was white fish, salmon, prawns & mussels. This had absolutely no mussels in it and was mainly salmon & prawns with one chunk of white fish. The server gave us a glass of wine to compensate which was a nice touch but it was ashame there was hardly any white fish or mussels which are a local catch.

Came here with a hen party big group during busy goth weekend, they very kindly opened up early for our group (planned ahead of time). The staff were phenomenal, friendly and on the ball with their service. They gave us recommendations for where to go out after and we’re so energetic with us. The food came out hot, delicious and fast with very generous portions. You set up our day so well, couldn’t have been better. Thank you

One of the best restaurants we have been to in terms of food quality, staff friendliness and hospitality. We arrived with no booking and informed there was an hour wait so to grab a drink elsewhere. well worth the wait! The Verde and american (hot) pizzas were excellent and so filling. all the staff showed such attentiveness and it made for a perfect date night. 💗 (photos are only of the females bathroom as it was decorated to the theme and had lots of feminine products for free which was a kind touch)

Wow. To say that was the best pizza I have ever had is saying something. I got the cajun chicken pizza which is hot but I cooled it down slightly with the garlic mayonnaise. My partner got the Di Mare which was an unbelievably good pasta dish rammed with gorgeous seafood with a lovely creamy sauce. We got talking to the staff and leant this was a family run business and they were so friendly and even bring their dog to work who sits on her chair and behaves so so good. We both loved it so much we will be most definitely be going back there!

Situated across the bridge overlooking the harbour on your right. A small very warm/hot place with a massive brick built pizza ovan as you walk in pelting out heat. We were sat under the mezzanine with low ceiling so it was hot. They've packed alot of seats in so its quite noisy and adds to the warmth. Friendly staff who were very helpful. Mainly pizza's and pasta dishes. We had the Verde pizza, which was; goats cheese, asparagus, spinach and artichoke. I loved the toppings but the pizza was hard, probably due to its thinness. I like a thin pizza base, but this was too thin. I've had better Woodfired pizza's. Toilets are downstairs. Love the dog which has its own chair.

always loved dining here , the food ,service and atmosphere are all excellent , however on 4 occasions our booking has been cancelled a few hours before we were due to eat , i understand that on this occasion the chef was in hospital and i wish him well and hope that he is recovered , but as 8 of us are returning to whitby in a couple of weeks with 2 children i feel i dare not risk being cancelled again . great shame as its our favorite place to dine .

Great pizza place with cozy, modern interior. A bit out of the center but that's not a bad thing in Whitby as there was plenty of parking. It was busy and booking is recommended, but we got a table last minute which was much appreciated. The pepperoni pizza was too spicy for our taste.

Average pizza, very thin and lots of cheese. Prawn pasta was good though. Very bad music playing through speakers. sounds like it was made on garage band in 10 minutes. Nice decoration though

Absolutely love their gluten free pizza. They actually do large size and fill it up with toppings. They are not stingy and the pizza tastes amazing. I would go to Whitby from London again just for their pizza.

Managed to walk in with two friends and get a seat at the bar thanks to helpful and friendly staff. Best gluten free pizza I've had in a while. It was great to sit and watch the excellent staff work around each other. Young people putting a shift in making pizza, preparing drinks and waiting tables. If you own this place you have a great team working for you. Highly recommend Pizza West and I will always eat here for a night whenever back in Whitby.

Atmosphere and food was great! We started with the garlic bread and meatballs and they were both amazing! Dough of pizzas were fresh and tasty and the pasta dishes were really nice! Would highly recommend!!

What a find. Whilst staying in Whitby we were lucky to find Pizza West. An amazing atmosphere. Relaxed and modern. The food was superb. All fresh ingredients and so tasty. The pizzas had a unique twist but I’ve really not had better, and I do love pizza. My personal favourite (and I’m not usually a pudding person) was vanilla ice cream, with olive oil and sea salt. Yep. It works. The team at Pizza West know how to create a relaxed atmosphere but were both attentive and professional. As my father in law said after our meal - “First Class Food.” Many thanks

Came for our 10th wedding anniversary back in July (taken me a while to remember to post a review). The meal was absolutely fantastic and the hospitality even better. We were lucky to get in on the Jazz evening which made the atmosphere really special too. Service was very professional yet relaxed in a typical French way so we got to enjoy a great 3 hours of food and entertainment. I must admit we were left rather tipsy with the multiple very generous free glasses of champagne for our anniversary. We'll definitely be back when we're sans children!

What a fabulous restaurant, the atmosphere is straight out of Paris, amazing decor. The staff are brilliant, our waiter Daqwan had such a pleasant friendly manner and his smart appearance made a great first impression. Thank you Daqwan, great to meet you. The owner of the premises also visited each table a fabulous fella who made us feel as though our custom was valued. We also bumped into him in his French cocktail bar five minutes walk away, again well worth a visit. The star of the show was the food though, indulgent and delicious, worth every penny and for the quality you are getting the price was very reasonable. The scallop starter in particular was a dish that i never wanted to end. If you're visiting Whitby and you want a nice romantic meal with your wife then don't hesitate to book a table here, you wont regret it.

Sat outside on a lovely sunny day watching the world go by. Nice coffee, followed by an excellent wine. Good, friendly service. Recommended.

I have gluten intolerance and I never get to try anything like fish pie. But the servers were extremely knowledgeable and even without me asking told me that I do not need to worry about cross contamination. Whenever I ask for anything related to gluten in London, people are confused. It's so refreshing to see a tourist town having such know about allergens. The food was great. Generous quantities and worth the money.

Really good fish and chips! They cook their chips in beef dripping, but also have a vegetarian side cooked in vegetable oil. I was a little disappointed in the size of the cod. I ordered the large at £21.95 and it was no different in size, even smaller than some of the mediums I could see on others plates. The mushy peas were excellent, the curry sauce looked bland but was very tasty!

The fish absolutely Very Good. I must say. The Salt And Pepper Squid is SMASHING. I would take 3 orders of squid over the fish it’s that good. And I love fish more than you know. The smoked fish excellent. Mixed plate of seafood very good.

Delicious! We had the most friendly and lovely server called Michelle 😀 It's a very busy restaurant, buzzing in fact. Everything was fabulous quality. Clean washrooms. Well worth a visit!

My favourite fish and chips restaurant in Whitby . Excellent fish and chips. Great service wether your eating in our takeaway. My wife and I had cod and chips. Small for her and a regular for me. They even do a large. Perfectly cooked meaty flakes of white fish and proper chips. Delicious

Brilliant fish and chips! Shared them with my wife, as the portions are generous. The mushy peas were also excellent! Really impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant, the staff were really polite! Price is irrelevant when recieving such high quality food and service!

Delicious fish n chips. Thin, crispy batter around fresh fluffy fish. They leave the skin on the fish which gives it extra flavor. Chips are thick and fluffy. Waitress very accommodating and fast service.

Had seafood linguine and mussels with chips. The mussels were big, fat & juicy. Best I've ever had. In fact this was the best meal we had in Whitby.

I wanted to eat seafood during my holidays in Whitby and chose the Marine Bar & Restaurant for a very early dinner. There were not many other guests yet so it was nice and quiet. The food was absolutely delicious! On top of that our table had a lovely harbour view.

A nice place if you love seafood! Here’s the feedback on food we had: Sea bass - nice but feels like there wasn’t much with it - my partner was glad he ordered fries to go with it. Sea trout - really nice! Crab linguine - tasted nice, lots of crab and reasonable at £20. It did feel like it was missing something in terms of flavour but can’t put our finger on what. It also gets very spicy as you keep eating so be aware of this! Crème Brûlée was AMAZING! Service was really good and we were glad we went, would recommend a visit.

Had a beautiful meal at the marine. The staff were accommodating and friendly, the environment was clean and comfortable and the food was incredible. Me and my mum had never had oysters so were allowed to order one each as a starter just to try, which were delicious! We then had a whole lobster thermidor each which was amazing also. Excellent place for seafood and good wine. We had the seafood platter which comprised whole lobster; whole crab, oysters, gravalax; mackerel pate, prawns, langoustines dressed with samphire, lemon wedges sourdough toast and the usual accompaniments of shallot vinegar, Tabasco, horseradish mayo... delicious. Washed down with some very nice French white

Very disappointing and overpriced. The scallops were undercooked, the pasta linguine tasted like it had been frozen rather than fresh, and the whole dish lacked seasoning or flavour. For the price, we expected far better quality and care in preparation. A positive Would be that the staff were nice and friendly. However, would not recommed.

Make sure you book in advance! We heard lots of great things about this place so came here for dinner and it didn't disappoint! The team were very friendly and welcoming and the place itself had a great atmosphere as well as being in a very picturesque area! The food is quite pricey however it was delicious and so fresh, so worth the money! Would highly recommend the scallops if they have them as a special! And the loaded fries with crab!

Beautiful, quaint fish/seafood restaurant in Sandsend. The service was great which complimented the beautiful food on offer. I had Fish and chips, Jo the fish tacos and Jay the Godzilla burger. SIt was so good. We didn't even share anything with the pooches though they had an ice cream later. 😂 Will be going back asap. Thanks fish Cottage. ❤️

We had a fantastic meal here and can’t stop thinking about the fish tacos – easily the star of the show! Perfectly cooked fish, crispy on the outside but still tender and juicy, wrapped in a warm tortilla with fresh, zesty toppings that pulled everything together. You can tell they really care about their ingredients and flavours. The rest of the meal was excellent too – great service, relaxed atmosphere, and everything beautifully presented. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommend for anyone who loves seafood done well!

Fantastic place. Food is amazing, ample parking (especially for us on bikes) We’ve now made this a regular route. Bit pricey but you get what you pay for. 100% will be back again, looking forward to it.

Booked here mid week for our wedding anniversary lunch, we always like to do something special and special the Fish Cottage was. We've been aware of the Fish Cottage for a while but this was our first meal there. We arrived a bit early and managed to park outside in their few spaces, I think there is enough for about 6 cars. If that's full you can drive further up into the pay and display, it's only a minutes walk back. Even though early we were shown to our table. It was a breezy fresh day and a couple of doors were open, it made the restaurant interior cool and they were soon closed and locked. A great menu, I had the salt and pepper squid with extra aioli to start. Not squid rings, big juicy flat pieces of the body breaded and deep fried. Delicious on a bed of samphire. Wife had the seafood chowder, rich creamy and rammed with fish, prawns, clams mussels and scallops served with sourdough bread. Potatoes in it were slightly underdone but otherwise very very good. I had for mains a seafood linguine with clams, mussels, scallops and shrimp with a half lobster to be decadent! Wife had 3 fish tacos with a side of crab fries. Washed down with a nice glass of white wine. Very good. We shared a dessert of burnt basque cheesecake with coffee. Couldn't move! There were specials available and many other lower priced options so a visit here does not have to break the bank. Most definitely will be back, they also have a lot of outdoor seating for a sunny day where they serve good fish and chips and it's always rammed so must be good. A great find.

What a let down! Couldn’t get a table as they were all “booked” and referred to the outside hatch. Ordered, given buzzer, and told to go inside to collect once ready. Buzzer goes off, I go inside, server looks at me and simply says “outside”. Collect food, which was so bland and disappointing. Salt and pepper squid was actually plain battered squid, no seasoning and definitely no pepper. Chips were good but hard to get wrong. Fish tacos were lacking any flavour in the sauce or salad, just a plan fried bit of fish no seasoning. I honestly wouldn’t bother! Best part is, when leaving 45 mins later, tables inside were still empty. Rude staff, food bland. £30 for two tacos, squid, chips, can of orange and wine. Parking not great either.

My first visit and it was a great experience with amazing attentive service delivered in a timely fashion! I had the prawn tacos and crab fries both of which tasty, definitely would recommend it!

Interesting pub. Went in there as it was advertised they would a football game on one of the tv's. Nobody was watching tv, so asked if I could have the efl cup final on. NO!! Can't change channels (why advertise it then?).

Visit this pub 4 or 5 long weekends a year and spend 50 to 100 a visit! Visited over the bank holiday weekend, refused a loyalty card that we where willing to pay for(not had to purchase one before) just because we are not local, always had a loyalty card from the place before, left after that, will not return. Such a shame we loved the place.

Called in at 10.45pm on a Saturday night to a welcome of we are closing in a bit. Asked for spirits but limited choice. No ice available and pub not the cleanest. Poor atmosphere and felt they just wanted us out. Zero stars for the Star Inn.

Beware if you have an Irish/Scottish accent and God forbid if you are mixed raced. You will be set upon by the regulars and the landlady, they still live in 1970s here. Not a safe pub if your are visiting whitby.

Just had a drink, so can't tell about food, but we did enjoy the beer and the atmosphere, so did the dog!

Visited The Star Inn (briefly) during a pub crawl along Whitby Harbour. Although it is a Cask Marque pub, there were only three hand-pumped ales - of which two were out of stock and I just had had the remaining one at the pub before that (the altogether far superior The Ship). It is a typical old-style boozer with rather worn furniture: a whaterhole. Given the disappointing selection I only had 1/2 pint of (too cold) Guinness Draught and left quickly for other, better pubs. Cannot recommend it.

We had the mussels which was terrific- sauce was good and mussels not overcooked. Haddock Fish n chips was beautifully fried - fish was fresh and cooked to perfection- fish proportionate to the crunchy batter which was not oily. Not a huge menu but choices were good Fish pie was good as far as fish pies go- maybe a bit to much mash potatoes. Service was friendly and attentive. They even gave us a complimentary dessert with a lit candle for our birthday girl in the group Our meal deal was a great deal

New restaurant by the famous fish and chips restaurant Trenchers. We had a great time. The waitress were very nice to us. We took the regular size Haddock and it was very good. The toilets were very clean and modern. I recommend this place for sure!

We have been when it first open and it was amazing including gluten free fish batter and garlic prawns. This time limited changed menu. We werent advised about the specials board. The food was mediocre. Do not recommend seafood platter. Nice greek salad

Thoroughly underwhelmed. Related to the other store which boasts award winning fish and chips, I had hoped for something special. I ordered cod and chips. The batter was excellent… crisp, and light, but there's a clue in the name… it's FISH and chips, not batter and chips. The fish inside the batter was utterly limp and tasteless. Can't say for certain, but I suspect it had been frozen… that's the only sure fire way I know of turning good fish into a tasteless mush. The chips were adequate. Not crisp, a bit tough, and unappealing. The peas were, I'm fairly sure, scooped from a tin. How can a restaurant serve that? My partner ordered the fish pie, and can confirm what others have said. It's a potato pie in the form of a treasure hunt for pieces of fish. Unbalanced, and not very good. Fish is expensive, and potatoes are cheap. All you need to know.

What a find this place was. We had oysters and calamari for starters. The spiced sauce on the calamari was fantastic. The menu supplied a great choice but we went for haddock and chips. The fish was perfectly cooked... white and flakes. The batter was tasty and all the usual accompaniments were there. Will definitely come here again.

We bought 3 kids fish bites and chips . The.fish was delicious. Fried perfectly in beef fat. The chips were proper. Generous portions. With a side of curry sauce. Fed a family of four. Great value for money. Highly recommend.

The service was great - prompt, friendly, and very accommodating. We asked for a couple of small things "off menu", such as a portion of olives, and this was not a problem. The food was well prepared, and delicious. We tried a few restaurants during our stay in Whitby and Tide was, in our collective opinion, better than some of its better known neighbours. Well worth a visit.

We managed to book a table for our group of 8 and really enjoyed it. There are plenty of seats in the front with a direct view of the sea and harbour and also a lovely big dining area upstairs. The restaurant is located perfectly on the busy promenade where it's very central but not too loud. The service was great and the food well made and tasty. Everybody had a good time!

Staff were lovely, it was a nice spot. The cocktails were okay - not much to the mojitos. For a cocktail bar expected a bit more. The food was good - but for the price it was a bit on the high side. However everywhere around the area the prices were high, but I understand that’s just the current economy. Would come again, but would not drink.

Great little pub. Loads of cocktail options with classic cocktails and ones with a twist. A great selection of mocktails too. The staff are always friendly and happy to see you. Great view of the Abby whilst sat outside and in one of the quieter places of Whitby so there's not loads of foot traffic going past.

Sat outside and enjoyed a lovely mocktail. Spotted this place on our trip last year but it was always so busy which was a good sign. We managed to get a table outside one evening to enjoy a drink. I had the French martini mocktail which was lovely. My partner had the spicy watermelon margarita which well…wow! Look at the photo of it. Friendly staff.

Modern bar directly opposite the harbour so great views, especially sat outside on a lovely night. Didn't eat there so cannot comment on the food but the expressio Martini and Aspall cider were great. Friendly staff.

Lovely place to watch the world go by. Plenty of choice of spirits and cocktails and a really good pint of Guinness too. We will be back on our next visit to Whitby

Visited Hadley Fish and Chip Restaurant on 23 September and again on 26 September whilst on holiday in the area. On each ocassion we received a warm and friendly greeting. We were shown to a clean table promptly. The 4 of us ordered The Special which consisted of Cod, Chips, Peas, Bread and Butter plus a pot of tea. It was evident that all were cooked fresh, served hot, in a timely manner, cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. The price was excellent £20.85 each for a regular portion. Smaller portions were also available. There was no after taste and our meal was not greasy at all. We would definately recomend and return. Many Thanks.

First time trying here after it being recommended by numerous people. The service was attentive and super friendly. The portions wern’t as large as we’re used to in West Yorkshire (we’re big fans of Murgatroyds whale like fish in Yeadon) and no option for skin off on haddock so we all opted for cod which was fresh & succulent. They use vegetable oil when frying which isn’t as flavoursome as beef dripping IMO and the curry sauce & mushy pea’s were a little bland. But the fish,chips,peas & bread/cup of tea deal for under £25 is a bargain and a steal compared to other Whitby chippies.

Visited Whitby today and stopped in here for lunch before tackling the 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey. One of the best Fish & Chip restaurants we’ve been to. Had to queue at the door for a few minutes until a table was ready but arranged quickly and friendly welcome to our table. Food arrived before drinks and one order was missing mushy peas which we realised after leaving but didn’t spoil a great meal.

We walked into Hadley's and was immediately shown to a table. We ordered the fish and chips for two and my daughter, who is vegan had a side salad and some of our chips, which she loved! The best fish and chips we've had for ages, truly delicious, we emptied our plates. The staff were very helpful and friendly too ❤️

Our favourite place anywhere in the UK to go for fish and chips. Every time we have been to Whitby we go here for food. Whether it is just the two of us or all the family. The staff are friendly and very accommodating, would recommend this place to anyone.

We visited this take away fish and chip shop on a Saturday early evening and there was a queue of others waiting and many others joined after us! Good value food served promptly, given the numbers waiting. There is a small restaurant area there too, for those who can't wait to get their food home!

4 people had the Wednesday curry deal and the food was amazing.We don't usually have a starter other than popadums but took advantage of the offer and they were delicious, the mains were equally as tasty and we ended up taking a couple of doggy bags home. Just finished the leftovers the following day and it was even better, service was great and I highly recommend this restaurant.

5 of us ate here last night. Having seen polarising reviews we didn't know what to expect. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and took the leftovers to eat later. Flavours, portion sizes and choice was very good. The service was decent. Would definitely revisit. Would highly recommend the Duck Tawa.

We ordered from here, simply because there seems to be no other Indian food options locally. The food was terribly bland, I’ve had better jar curries from the supermarket. The meat was a questionable texture and the naan lacked any substance whatsoever. When we collected our food the place wasn’t busy at all, and this was around 8pm on a Friday night! If another Indian restaurant or takeaway opens locally with half decent quality food these are done! Won’t be returning and I can see why they have such a low rating. I do not recommend.

Lack of atmosphere. Felt more like going into a noisy greasy spoon cafe. Service was very slow. Seemed better setup for larger groups than a small family. Had to ask several times for the bill and couldn’t wait to leave tbh. Not good value for money and couldn’t understand the bill when I tried to read it as it was hand written and altered several times. Oh and all the waiters lacked any kind of personality.

A bit overpriced, our meal was a bit hit and miss... Downside: lime pickle was so salty that it was bordering on toxic. Vegetable panoramic was soggy and we found a bit of plastic in one 😳 Upside: the bindi ghost and matar paneer were both amazing.

Not bad for an after-beer sort of curry house. Standard menu neither done badly nor particularly well. Think it is the only option for curry in Whitby so that is why they get away with being so average.

Had a takeaway from here which was delicious, as I had some left over for the next day I popped in asking to buy some more poppadoms. With every intention to buy the staff just handed over some with no charge. Great food and customer service

An unfortunate first experience at Botham's Tearooms to celebrate my mother's birthday. We preordered the Botham's afternoon tea via telephone days prior. The afternoon tea that was discussed to us was mistakenly The Yorkshire afternoon tea. This caused slight confusion. Nonetheless we waited, and waited and 40 minutes had passed before we eventually received our order. I was accompanied by my two young boys and as you can imagine they lack any sort of patience. The afternoon tea itself was delicious however we had drank our pot of tea before it had even arrived. There was also a very large queue of elderly customers that wished to be seated. I'd suggest in future that tables are on a prebook basis. I'd like to enjoy my food without feeling pressured or bombarded by the sheer magnitude of customers. Finally, on receipt of our bill I noticed that the prices did not correlate to those on their website menu. We were charged £15.25 per person and not £14.95 as shown on the website. I was told that they would not honor the price stated online. This will need to be updated. To conclude, the Tearooms were not well managed and sadly I will not be returning. It was not the experience we'd hoped to receive.

There is nowhere that does cakes better in Whitby, even now I live away only coming back to visit my family I still get bothams deliveries as you just can’t beat them. When I am back home I have to get the traditional traffic light and strawberry tart as they cannot be posted. Wonderfully delicious and fresh always

A very traditional experience! We came here for breakfast and were very impressed with how large the selection of food was. I highly recommend the fruit scones and the hot chocolate, they were delicious! We had a lovely meal and were pleased that it was priced very fairly. The decor was very traditional for tearooms and looks as if not much has changed in the past 50 years! Although this is not to everyone’s taste, our group really enjoyed it! The staff were also lovely and greeted us with a big smile. It was overall, a great experience!

Sweet Perfection! This wonderful tea room has served delicious food to Whitby since 1865. The tea- room has hardly changed since then! Lovely, old worlde atmosphere. A quiet & pleasant place to enjoy the scrumptious cakes and coffee. Immaculately dressed staff, who were so polite & friendly. Our coffees & cakes were out of this world! Fresh, tasty, and incredibly priced for a such high quality product. If Botham's was in London, I would move in!!! Do not miss this wonderful tea room!

We've walked past this tea room a few times, not knowing what a lovely place it was, as we only saw it as a bakery shop. You have to go upstairs to access the tea room (there's a stair lift too for anyone not able to get up them), and once up there, it's quite worthwhile. As we'd already had lunch earlier, we had tea & cake. Very nicely decorated & plenty of space between the tables. Good selection of speciality teas, coffees & cakes.

Wonderful old fashioned tea room! We were served in a timely manner by very friendly and polite staff in comfortable surroundings. We opted for a light lunch of sandwiches. I can definitely vouch for the chicken, cranberry and brie, which was scrumptious. Overall, it felt like stepping back in time a little. Very much looking forward to visiting again.

We had an amazing Thai night on this restaurant. Din is a very good waiter and was very attentive to all our needs during the night. The chef’s special is definitely something that will make us come back to this restaurant on the next visit to Whitby. Thanks to all the staff yesterday.

Great little restaurant based just inside Whitby station. The food was amazing so full of wonderful flavours. Would give any of our home (Bromley) Thai restaurants a run for their money. Excellent. Would thoroughly recommend well worth a visit if you are in Whitby.

Not easy to spot but found it eventually inside entrance of Train station. Lovely place, helpful staff, nicely decorated and clean. We had Chicken and Beef Pad Thai meals. Love the Tsingtao lager and the complimentary extras. Thank you for your service 😊

We decided to order a takeaway for myself and my husband. The staff were lovely and the wait was long (but it was busy). Sadly the food was disappointing. Both ordered no. 41 (one chicken and one prawn). The portion was all vegetables and hardly any noodles (which were tagliatelle thick style and not standard Thai). Both dishes had only x2-3 pieces of chicken and prawn, so definitely not worth the price. Perhaps it was because it was a takeaway (as the restaurant was so busy) or we were merely tourists but we felt totally ripped off. We’ll not be back.

Beautiful restaurant. I made a mistake with the date of our booking, booking for July instead of June. The owner, Kam, was so understanding and helpful. Although we turned up a month early and the restaurant was already packed out, Kam did everything possible to fit our table of 6 in. He could not have been any more accomodating or kinder. I definitely recommend eating here if in Whitby if you're looking for a nice place to eat out. The food was to die for, absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere and staff were wonderful. They were all so nice and really took care of us, nothing was too much trouble. We wish we lived closer so we could make this a regular place to eat out. Every course was delicious. Recommend the mixed starter. This is a must, and the kind prawn pad thai was perfect! We all enjoyed our visit and had the best evening. So enjoyable. Thanks to all the staff at Kamthai, for making our reservation possible and for making our trip one to remember.

A nice Thai restaurant at the Railway station at the harbour. Everything was nice enough but not great. It's a bit hard trying to provide a reason why it's not worth stars but it's just not, in my opinion. Nothing was wrong or unpleasant, it was just OK. I had the Pla Rad Prik (£19.95) ie. sea bass in a spicey tamarind, garlic and chilli sauce, which was a bit too spicey for me despite it only having 1 chilli on the menu, which should have been mild. The fish was OK but I found a couple of small bones in it and the edge was very crispy. The chilli dip with the Golden Parcel starters (£4.95) was also a bit too hot, but the egg fried rice was lovely, one of the best I've tasted. My friends had the set menu for 2 (£24.95 each) and choose the red curry, which was again, a bit too spicey for one of them. They loved the beef in oyster sauce and mixed vegetables. This is a cash only place so make sure you have enough prior.

Average food I would say and quite expensive. Service was lovely and a nice menu and clean place. Just not quite as good as I've had before but still nice. Coconut pancakes were yummy!

The food is not the best thing about The Duke of York. It is in probably the best location in Whitby. Don’t get me wrong the food is not bad, the breakfast is especially good, but the location and the staff are even better We stayed one night and dropping off your cases took some planning as it is at the end of a pedestrianised zone. Don’t even try to drive to it when it is busy but it is worth the effort. Lots of pubs and restaurants nearby and great for a walkabout. The room was small but perfectly formed and had breathtaking views over the harbour entrance. It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. We will certainly try to come back

Recommended to have our dinner here. Lovely pub and stunning view if you have a window seat. Great service. Food we both had fish and chips, (very nice indeed) apart from the coldish mushy peas that we had. Also £2 for bread and butter, I was expecting bread and butter for a chip sandwich, but as u can see x1 chip only on 1 slice. So that x1 slice of bread and butter cost me £1. Sorry but never again. £4 for x2 slices of bread🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

Really delicious food (the minted peas are so good) and a really cosy venue with nice atmosphere. If you can get the window seat you have a gorgeous view of the seafront. Only issue is as it’s so small it’s tricky to get a table sometimes!

We stayed here for one night and had a wonderful experience. The room was spotless, with a beautiful view and a very comfortable bed. We also enjoyed a delicious meal in the bar – the food was of a high standard and full of flavour. The staff were professional, attentive, and friendly, which made our stay even more enjoyable. We’ll definitely be returning in the future.

Stayed for one night on a Friday, arrived and lovely welcome at the bar. When we got in to our room, the room was gorgeous and we had a beautiful view as well over the harbour. Would highly recommend and would stay here again.

Stayed here for 1 night. Room was spotlessy clean and the view was beautiful. Spent a few hours in the pub Saturday night to listen to the live music. Was a great atmosphere im there. Had breakfast the Sunday morning was lovely and hot...2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 hash browns, 2 eggs, mushroom and a tomato. There was a selection of cereals, yoghurt too. Juices to choose from and toast. We were told there could be some noise in the rooms from the pub downstairs but this didnt apply to us as we were in the pub ourselves. Would definitely stay here again

Popped in for lunch, didn't book. Luckily, we got a table with a view of the harbour, seated next to the bar. Happy to see that they sold Neck Oil beer, bonus. We had Hand Battered Fish Ciabatta and Steak and Caramelised Onion Ciabatta with sweet potato fries, see photos. They were great. I enjoyed the steak and sweet potato fries and my wife enjoyed her fish. High chairs were a pain to get in and out of, but worth it for the view. Recommended and easy to find at the foot of the famous steps up to Whitby Abbey.

Offered a table near the toilets in a fairly empty restaurant so I then asked for a window seat ,which were kindly given however the table was extremely sticky ,peeling glasses and menus off the table. Staff took ages to serve ..so we left without food and found another restaurant. Clean your tables please and I got the impression the window seat tables were not often used ...just for decor ??? Sorry bad service and bad table given initially.

Beautiful meal in the restaurant last night, all 4 of our party had different meals and each one was very good. Compliments also to the restaurant team who very kindly gave a homeless chap a free coffee and a pizza, who popped his head in asking for a little charity. Very well done it would have been easier to turn him away but they "fed and watered" him. A very nice kind gesture 👍

Went in thinking it was a fish and chip restaurant as most of the signage outside suggests so. When we got inside we learned it was more of a Turkish restaurant with other options? Also the prices/items don't match the signs outside. Menus stuck to table as they were sticky. Didn't get served after 15 minutes (not even drinks orders) despite other tables that came in after us being served...given we felt invisible, we just left and went elsewhere. Seemed to be a pattern as the guy next to us asked for the bill and didn't get it for at least 10 minutes.

Mediterranean pizza missing basil and frah mozzarella, more like a simple cheese pizza. I would say average for UK and kids will eat it. Fish was good. Chicken parmesan doesnt have tomato sauce and is just melted cheese on a chicken cutlet - my fault for not reading the menu description. I didn't really think it goes well without sauce. Service was spotty, one server was okay but another was MIA most of our meal. Hard to get water and drinks. Grills looked good and wish I had tried them instead.

We came here for a meal and it was delicious, my partner said his Steak Burger was the best in whitby, even let our little Chihuahua in which was lovely, The Staff were so nice and friendly, especially the lady who was working, we've booked a table again for to night as we go home Monday morning, Totally recommend this place 👌

We had dinner here it was delicious, it was Turkish food. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Good value for money and a change from fish and chips.

Situated half way up the cobbled street heading towards the steps. Very old pub possibly dating back to 1600s. Has been many different incarnation over the years including; a brothel, a morgue, a hotel & a spirit warehouse. Very small inside but with a further 2 small rooms towards the back. A traditional old fashioned style pub with tapas type food. Decent pint beer but not a big selection. Friendly staff.

When you want to sit and relax and have a great pint and food this is the one. Not only is the atmosphere traditionally excellent (no blaring music, simply a quality background ambience) the staff are accommodating and friendly. Spent at least four evenings of seven on our stay in Whitby in this Inn. They welcome dogs but the one I was interested in was the black one at the bar - a smooth pint if ever I had one. Brilliant! Thank you Black Horse.

Nice little local pub great service good choice of real ales didn't eat but they do snacks like cheeseboards and ploughman's and apparently let you take in fish and chips from down the road .. brilliant 😁 everyone was friendly and had a chat with locals.. all good

Awesome little pub in the centre of Whitby old town. Very busy, but it was Saturday night. Beer was good, some decent beers on tap. Great atmosphere, and decent music in background. Good place to meet people and chat. Doorman very friendly too 😊

Cracking little boozer. Got a couple of ales on. Very small bar and a back room which isn’t much bigger. It’s in the old town and has character in abundance. Popped in during the day and in the evening. Nice ambience. Good little chatting pub. Serves yapas whatever that is I never asked unfortunately. Dog friendly. Recommended… 🍻 🐕

This little place absolutely fantastic. Food superb. So friendly. Dog friendly too. Must try the Yapas, it's amazing.

Cafe Montmartre feels like it's been plucked from Paris and plonked on the streets of Whitby. Genuinely the closest thing to an authentic Parisien cafe I've found in England. And the cocktails are so much fun. I really enjoyed the sorcière rouge on our visit.

Nice looking place, interesting decor however the quality of the drinks fell short of the price by a long shot. Broken lock on toilet door, no soap in either toilets and nothing to dry hands on. Mentioned no soap to waitress who did nothing to remedy. Place was cold yet closing the door was prohibited. A place with lots of potential but disappointing in it's current form.

Fantastic little place, has a very nice ambiance and the chap serving today was friendly and welcoming. Well worth a visit. (The wife says that was one of the nicest mochas she has had in a while.)

This place used to be absolutely fantastic. The previous staff (Danny & Katie) were always warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming — they created such a positive atmosphere every time we visited. Sadly, I believe the ownership has changed, and with it, so has the entire experience. The new staff are unapproachable, rude, and completely lacking in enthusiasm. There’s no eye contact, no smiles, and conversations are reduced to one-word responses. It still carries the same name, but that’s where the resemblance ends. It’s really disappointing, especially because we have so many fond memories here. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning. Others might still enjoy it, but for us, the charm is gone — it was so much better before.

Third visit but first visit since the previous two people (husband and wife?) ran it. Was fab before but mediocre now. Cocktails pricey for Whitby and tasted very watery. Sad to say we won't go back.

Had an amazing bottomless brunch here today. One server down but still couldn’t fault the service. Food - lasagne and chicken goujons with chips and onion rings - were really tasty and the cocktails were exceptional.

A dream of a visit. Decided to pop in for a much needed drink and some food. We didn’t fancy the normal fish and chip restaurant type food. We had our little dog with us and found a table on the balcony outside overlooking the Endeavour. Cocktails and food were spot on and great value for money. Having plenty of space around us, watching the world go by it was a great end to our day.

Absolutely love this place! The atmosphere is fantastic, and the cocktails are some of the best I’ve ever had. The food is just as delicious, making it the perfect spot for a night out. A special shout-out to Levi and Charlotte – they are incredible in every way and made the experience even better. Couldn’t recommend this place enough!

Came here last year , great service and food , not so great this year , not sure if it's a different chef or not now . The meatballs were very hard and lukewarm, the potato skins nothing like last year , very burnt , almost like they were done in an air fryer . The fries were okay. Drinks were fine , should be better for a £60-£70 spend .

Excellent meal when you're looking for something other than seafood in Whitby! They were friendly and the food was delicious. The menu was fairly limited but what they did was prepared well. Be sure to book ahead - the restaurant is small.

Unreal!!! Don’t be put off by the limited menu. Order the famous 5 and enjoy. Probably best to book in advance as this place is tiny but crammed full of character and incredible food.

The most welcoming and warm environment I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. It felt like dinner with friends. The food was exceptional, so much choice and great for sharing. The owner is INCREDIBLE. Such a happy and warm spirit which made the dining experience so much better. If you’re in Whitby you MUST stop here!

Wonderful little restaurant! We enjoyed their huge cheese and charcuterie board along with a lovely bottle of red wine. Amazing range of cold meats, cheeses, and accompaniments. The best thing about this place however, is the super friendly owners who went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. Thank you so much for a memorable evening :)

Super place! Small menu but everything that we had was great. The bottle of house wine was very palatable and the service from the chef and the one server in the whole twenty cover restaurant was warm and friendly. We would definitely recommend this great little restaurant in the heart of Whitby. We will definitely be back. Book a month before you go or you will not get a table.

Amazing. Crocodile opened for us to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was excellent. The atmosphere and music were great. We had a thoroughly wonderful time. It’s only a small restaurant but don’t miss out on this little gem. We enjoyed our hugs as we left too. I forgot to take a photo of the main course but here is a photo of our starter.

Whitby has too many Fish and Chip restaurants, and too few like this place, that offers something a bit different. Great wine, great Tapas, interesting decor, great service. Restaurant area is quite small, which gives Crocodïle a very intimate feel, probably better for couples than large groups.

Trust me, see all other review photos of the cakes on offer, that's what you get. Very appealing and affordable luxury. I only popped in out of the rain for two cups of coffee and was quite shocked at how low priced they were. That's why I did this review. Praise to those who seek to serve.

Just stunning... beautiful cakes, lovely friendly service, cakes boxed with care by Franco, and pretty ribbons on the box. Worth 130 mile round trip!

These cakes are exceptional! All freshly baked, absolutely delicious and obviously made with passion. We are usually strict vegans but have been tempted by these delicious confections and great coffee on our visits to Whitby. The apple parcels and fruit tarts melt in the mouth and the chocolate almond boats have the most amazing flavour and texture. Very friendly and helpful service. Highly recommend! UPDATE: Franco’s now have indoor seating! They have moved into the market square and their new place is great! Try to get there early, they are more popular than ever in their new location and stocks are low later in the day.The coffee and cakes are still the best you will find for miles around! (Apparently Franco bakes everything fresh daily and starts his endeavours at midnight each day.) We also bought some focaccia to take away. Three minutes in the air fryer on bake and they were exceptionally delicious with the soup I made.

The hidden gem of whitby now relocated to a prime retail spot. Franco's produce doesn't just taste amazing, it transport you to a different part of the world. Close your eyes while eating the pistachio cannoli and you'd swear you'd been swept away to the bustling streets of Naples. It's obvious with each baked item, drink or coffee, time and care have been taken to make sure everything is of the highest quality and no corners cut. Combine that with a warm welcome, perfect setting and fantastic service and you've got a recipie for success. Whether it's a glossy rum baba or the deep red velvet cookie, you can taste Franco's burning passion and pursuit of perfection in every single bite.

The best pastries I have ever had! And I'll admit, even better than when I've been to Italy itself. Great service, great food, great people.

amazing sweet treats with friendly service we loved the cookies and the italian sweets are so authentic - don't miss the cannoli! we'd heard great things about their rum babas which are my nan's favourite. they were sold out when we visited but franco went above and beyond to have some ready for us to collect the next day even though the shop was closed. this was so sweet and my nan was delighted! we'll definitely be back next time we're in whitby

After walking around looking for somewhere to eat on a cool April evening we stopped off for a drink and decided to stay for food. Even though it was quite early the earliest we could get a table was 8pm (suggest booking ahead). However, due to a no-show, we were able to eat earlier. Mrs D had pigeon and I had the scallops to start - the scallop dish is definitely one of the best things I’ve eaten this year. For the mains, I had the haddock, which was cooked perfectly, and Mrs D had the cod accompanied by pasta and an amazing tomato based sauce. Overall, an excellent meal, great service and very good value for money.

Booked here last minute for a Sunday roast whilst on holiday and what a great decision that was! The best Sunday lunch I've ever had at a restaurant - the staff were also very attentive, the music was great and the decor was lovely! Will 1000% be coming back if end up in this neck of the woods again 😊

My wife and I decided at the last minute to have a day out in Whitby and when we arrived we decided to find somewhere to eat. We walked away from the sea front fish and chip shops as we find them overpriced and mediocre food. We stumbled upon The Vault as we were wandering and thought we would take a look. So glad we did. The atmosphere, service, music was great and then the food arrived. Absolutely fantastic probably still doesn't come close. My wife had fish and chips which was cooked perfectly in batter so light it was almost like breadcrumbs. Homemade tartare sauce and some mushy peas finished the dish off nicely. I had the muscles in a slightly spicy sauce with sausage meat in and every one of them was gorgeous. Not one unopened shell. We shared a creme brulee for desert and that was just as yummy. So if you're looking for a great place to eat with fantastic food you should get to The Vault.....you won't be disappointed.

Loved it here. Wasn't too busy but at height of season it's probably best you book. We did. Food was beautiful, service was very good. The duck was amazing. Definitely go back.

Eat here last night after a friends recommendation. The whole meal, was excellent, both mains were delicious, very well presented, and a good size. Having a sweet tooth is well taken care of, the creme brulee, and the coconut rice pudding , was fantastic. The service was excellent, staff friendly and polite. Will definitely be back

First visit to The Vault having visited other Whitby restaurants each year we come on holiday. I have had the most amazing food. Service amazing. Lovely building and atmosphere. I will be back! Duck, Carpet bag, and Burger! Loved the Malbec red wine and white Chard too. Amazing! Thank you all!

Booked here for our first night in Whitby, the lady at our B&B said it was quite new and hadn't heard anything about it. She was quite interested in what we thought the next day. It is a very nice place to eat, it has a new feel to it but I wouldn't have know any different if I hadn't been told. The service is good but not in your face, the food is very good and was nice and hot. The atmosphere was OK, it wasn't completely full but had a nice vibe. I had the king prawns with wasabi for starter, my wife had pork & cheese croquettes. Both are delicious and I would recommend either of these. For our main my wife had the chicken supreme and I had the duck, both come with a version potato and veg. The duck was delicious, exactly as it should be cooked, not tough but easy to cut and eat, if I was being ultra critical, the sauce was very rich and tasty, but I thought they had put more on the dish than was needed, but that's just me, someone else might like a lot of this so that's fair. We had a bottle of wine, it was called pocket watch and its a shiraz. This was reasonably priced and a pleasant drink that went well with the duck. We didn't have dessert as we both felt full as the portion sizes are good. Prices are fair for all food and drink I would happily recommend this place to friends and family without a second thought. Will done all the staff at this place, thoroughly enjoyed it.

From our entrance to exit the service was truly fantastic. We all tried different burgers & we all commented on how good they were. Ordering is easy using the QR code on the table & our drinks & food arrived quickly. Nice to see a varied menu, also with gluten free options. Two of our party are wheelchair users & accessibility wise it was simple & accommodating. We would definitely return.

Lovely, very large, dog friendly restaurant. Bonus of 2 for 1 cocktails on Sunday while we were there. Think it was 2 for £12. Very nice food, staff and good atmosphere. Recommended and will call again.

Lovely café/restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were really friendly and polite, which made the experience even nicer. There’s plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, so it’s easy to find a spot. I loved that they have games available behind the bar—it adds a fun touch. Ordering is convenient too, either directly at the bar or from your table using a QR code.

Just enjoyed Tuesday Tapas. A first for my husband and I and we were really impressed. 6 tapas dishes and garlic bread with a drink £32.25. Absolutely amazing. We really enjoyed it and will definitely have it again.

Couldn't fault anything. The New Zealand girl who served us couldn't do enough to help my disabled partner and myself, she made us so welcome, she put out another table and chairs for us on the terrace as it was all full when we arrived. The nasi goreng was the best we have ever tasted, well done to the chef. Wish we lived nearer we'd be in often, but far to come from Scotland 😂 Thankyou so much the whole experience was wonderful and was the cherry on the cake for our visit to Whitby. Loved the guy singing in the square as well

Perfection! Restaurant is riverside and the decor is lovely both inside and out. Staff and friendly and attentive. The cocktails are were a real highlight, and the restaurant were more than happy to accommodate for vegans. If you’re in the area, it’s a must visit!

I would get 10 out 10 for the atmosphere but absolutely NOT for the Sunday Roast!! We went there for the first time to try Sunday Roast. I would say "disappointed" due to the skimpy portion and the taste. The taste is average or below, especially the taste of gravy, it was very bland and tasted very salty when it's cold I couldn't finish the whole plate because of the gravy. Additionally, you only got a few bits of vegtables on the plate and there is no any additional sides. (I have my own favorite place for Sunday Roast which they serve vegetables + cauliflower chesse sepearately as a side and their gravy is so rich and tasty). Then, only 2 pieces of roast potatoes, 1 small yorkshire pudding and a stuffing. NO Mash potatoes or else. To be fair, the porchetta was good but couldn't enjoy to the fullest because of tasteless gravy and inadequate sides, particulary vegetables. We paid around £23-25 per dish so food wasn't worth it! (if it's at least taste nice I would not complain at all and welcome to pay!) We also ordered 2 desserts: The chocolate torte - this is the best thing of that meal! the chocolate is very rich and the texture is very good. I love this one. Basque Chesscake - this one didn't taste nice it tasted very eggy. I believe they put too much eggs or overcooking the eggs. We just couldn't taste the cream chesse or the soft cheese at all. I recommeded the chef to look carefully to your recipe. As I said, I love the atmosphrere it's riverside restaurant, the view is gorgeous and the decor is very impressive and thoughtful. We would give it another try for their regurlar dishes but NOT Sunday roast. We will see if their regular dishes will be able to impress us. Thanks.

a beautiful surprise in the whitby seaside area. exceptionally fresh and flavorful food, warm service and a beautiful waterfront location. best restaurant we visited on a weekend trip away, even came back for a second meal!

We had an extremely tasty Sunday lunch in a very pleasant waterside setting. So relaxing. Very attentive young confident staff - lovely to see that. My wife had the roast chicken ( huge pieces) and I had the roast porchetta with baked apple sauce. Accompanied by a good sized portion of roast potatoes,seasonal veg and Yorkshire pudding. Chocolate torte with clotted cream. A memorable French Grenache rose. Recommended.

Absolutely incredible experience! Ordered many dishes off the menu, and every single one of them was exceptionally delicious. Lovely calm and romantic setting, with a beautiful garden and stunning riverside terrace - definitely book ahead for this. Big recommendations for the Picanha steak, the lobster, the Lindisfarne oysters, the barbecued squid & the basque cheesecake. Really solid and well-priced wine & cocktail selection as well to accompany. The nicest meal we’ve had in Yorkshire by a margin!

Whilst the staff were friendly and the food was good, arrival of courses was glacially slow, with approximately 45 minutes required for the starter, and and then the same for the main, to arrive. What made this more frustrating was there seemed to be a great deal of staff hanging about without a great deal to apparently do (presumably the bottleneck was in the kitchen). Toilet facilities were also very wholesome and clean, but extremely limited in quantity. This was a shame because in almost all other aspects the experience was very good indeed.

Highly recommend this place, service is fantastic and the food is outstanding. Really nice to try something different. Wide variety on the main menu and a great special menu too.

Wow, what a fantastic meal went for a Rib Eye Steak and asked for my usual medium pink with no blood, lol . I asked if the Diane sauce was homemade, not packet was homemade, so I ordered Well, it came, and the first cut showed a little under cooked for medium, but it had been rested properly. Wow, what a flavour perfect seasoning, and the sauce made it fantastic. Best steak for a long time. Julie would have loved it, and the homemade chips wonderful. I would recommend this restaurant anytime the pasta and seafood also looked fantastic well worth a trip and a very reasonable price for the quality 😋

Fantastic food. The seafood salad special was great. We found it as we walked round Whitby and liked the look of the menu. Doesn't seem to come up on Google unless you search for it. I booked a table in person, but there was some confusion about the booking, but we got a table near the servery.

Wow what can I say THE BEST chowder ever! Full of flavour, beautifully seasoned woth samphire and a true tribute to the fish from Whitby.

Beautiful food we had garlic mushrooms for starters absolutely delicious. Had steak and bbq chicken burger for mains. My fries weren't very hot when they arrived but they were replaced in minutes with a fresh portion. Didn't have desserts as we were too full. Would definitely recommend booking as this is a very busy restaurant.

13/09/25 We walked in off the street just looking to get something to eat. Went to Whitby for our 40th wedding anniversary. We hadn't booked but they seated us and we had a great experience. I had the crab starter and it was superb. Followed by the Haddock, my wife had the cod. Again I couldn't fault it and we finished off sharing a chocolate torte with ice cream. The whole meal was wonderful, the girls were attentive , and chatted to us as they were coming and going. The whole experience of having a meal there made our 40th wedding anniversary wknd special, so a big thank you to all the staff, especially the chef, can't wait to come back.

Stayed in Castle Room 10. A very special room! The artwork on the arch is beautiful. The room is a lot bigger than it looks online and is comfortable and quiet. It overlooks the gardens and the Priory. Breakfast was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly. We had the bacon roll one morning (it was huge!) and then full English the next (also plenty of food and great quality). You get offered fruit and yogurt when you sit down and coffee or tea is served also. Fantastic location, easy walk into Whitby and the Yorkshire Moors are a stones throw away. Safe to leave car at the castle, plenty of parking. I think some things could be added to the rooms to make the stay a bit more comfortable - bathroom slippers, mini fridge and room service would have been nice. But overall an amazing stay and would absolutely come back again!

Popped over from the campsite nearby for our Sunday dinner. It is dog friendly in the bar area which was great news for us. Excellent drink choices, lovely set up and a very good menu. We chose from the Sunday menu, beef and pork. Delicious. Everything was cooked to a very high standard. Best cooked parsnip I’ve had. The meat was perfect and the seasonal vegetable selection was excellent. We had no room for dessert when we were finished and left very satisfied customers.

Wonderful stay from start to finish! The staff couldn't have been any more friendly and welcoming, especially Lise. Nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in the Gatekeepers part of the castle and it was perfect. So clean and with tons of outside safe and secure areas for our dogs. The food was second to none and the value superb. Highly recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you to all.

Had a great two night stay here in Castle Suite 10. The room was huge and the castle itself is beautiful, full of charm and character. The location is very convenient, making it easy to explore the surrounding areas - an easy walk into Whitby. The breakfast was great - a large variety of cooked foods and fresh fruit and yogurt offered also. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. A few small improvements could make the stay even better: a mini fridge in the room, slippers for after the shower, and the option of room service would have been great. We enjoyed our time here and would happily come back again!

We was invited to a wedding at Seaton Castle. It was a fantastic magical event. Location is fantastic. Venue wonderful. The staff are very polite, very efficient and made the whole event something magical to remember for everyone. Excellent service, good food and a very friendly atmosphere.

A lovely place to celebrate my mother-in-laws 88th birthday. Staff were lovely, very patient and helpful. The food was delicious, presented beautifully and enjoyed by everyone.

We were here for my daughter's wedding. The place is very grande and the food was top notch. Credit to all the staff, they did a superb job.

Can’t comment on the rooms. We had a lovely meal, the service was good and the seafood platter was delicious and fresh. The lobster Thermidor was amazing, the sauce wasn’t too rich and there was so much meat. The crab linguine and the trout was a bit bland, but plenty of crab meat and pasta was cooked perfectly. Highly recommend for lunch.

Was really looking forward to meal, husband had crab linguini, I had biloubasse, absolutely tasteless, bought to our table in ten minutes after ordering which made me suspicious, billoubasse had three prawns, six mussels and a tiny amount of fish in a tasteless watery sauce with one slice of sourdough bread, had a bottle of Chardonnay between us and Bill cam to £81, I could of cried, I don't mind paying for good food and wine but this was a complete waste of my time and money. I was expecting quality good but should have gone to the Magpie or Abbey wharf far better quality food.

We stopped here for an evening meal. Can't fault the food (delicious) or service. Great cocktails and liqueur coffees. Will definitely visit again next time in Whitby.

Started off really nice with the wine and the starters. But everything fell apart when the main meals came- the lasagne was 3 sheets of cold pasta with 20 whole tomatoes. The chicken supreme was far from supreme and lacked all elements of the dish (also came with 20 tomatoes).

Room was lovely with a brilliant view, excellent location, food was good too. The only downside I can think of is that we drove past it the first time, would be good if there was a sign facing the road. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Cant comment on the rooms as we only went for a meal. We were not impressed. Overpriced and trying to be something the kitchen team just cant achieve. Firstly ordered 2 mojitos, they were sent back as they just tasted of tonic water (£13 each). We then both had the scallop starter, this was nothing more than Ok, had better for alot less, the scallops were overpowered by the pea puree. The crab linguine main was very meh and the sole my wife had even less so. The mojitos were removed from the bill, we ordered rum+pepsi and a amerreto+pepsi plus the 2 courses each £100. Ridiculous. Save your money and go for fish and chips. 1/3 of the cost and you leave full and satisfied. Rather than leaving, feeling like yoube been mugged.

Had a starter of Gravalax and a main of sea trout. Both dishes were delicious and cooked superbly. Can not fault the food or service, top notch, highly recommended 👍

Automatically add a tip to the bill claiming that most customers want this?! Absolute rubbish. It's a devious way to make more money off customers. Staff rushed through the payment without asking if you wanted to pay it. And they took payment before they served you anything so who would tip before you get any service?! As it happens the service was slow and only one staff member could muster even a smile, the others moody. The coffee was ok, nothing special. Good views are the main highlight. Only one toilet for the whole premises and even though it was very quiet on our visit, still had a lengthy queue. I wouldn't want to come on a busy evening with alcohol!

Friendly staff, nice cocktails but fairly expensive, we must have spent at least £100 on our two visits just on drinks! Note: they automatically add a 5% tip to your bill, which isn't good, but you can ask not to have this. Also there is only one toilet on the premises which is for both males and females, so not nice and causes a queue through the bar.

I read Gareth Jones review and took his advice, and glad I did. Food excellent, service excellent, loved the interior decor and you could sit outside in a shack if you chose to. Dogs are allowed inside and they did make a fuss of ours. The girl behind the counter worked non stop.

Not really sure why I was charged £8.92 for drinks that sound have cost £8.50 ( 2 x cans @£2.50 and a cappuccino at £3.50). No wonder the waitress wouldn’t let me see the card machine!

Worth The Journey! Yes, you will have to walk past many fish and chip emporiums, but wait! Keep walking, and right by the beach you will find the Fishermans Shack selling fantastic quality fish and chips at unbeatable prices. We were there on a Saturday, a group of 6, and the town was rammed, with queues everywhere. But we bagged a 'cabin with a view' and were promptly served by cheerful staff. The meals were cooked to order, and generously sized. Nothing more to add. Go there! Its worth it!

Lovely pub by the sea, plenty seating some in bar, side garden and rear garden, with limited spaces for cars. Food fantastic and good size portions. The fish is massive. Good selection of wines and beer. Had pint glass cod bites, calamari, scampi, fries and sweet potato fries. Sat outside as pub was heaving. Would recommend booking a table.

Very, very tasty, large portions, we couldn't eat it all, the food is served beautifully presented and hot. I recommend everyone to visit this place, it's just great!

A short walk from where I was staying. I ate here both nights during my stay. The food was fabulous and sensibly priced. Particularly enjoyed the "Pint Pot Menu" Friendly, welcoming staff and dog friendly too! Definitely recommend.

We appreciated the pleasant outside bar and seating area, which was lovely for both us and our dog. My husband enjoyed the succulent and tasty Scampi while I found your Crab Salad to be quite tempting. However, my experience plummeted when I discovered a piece of plastic in my coleslaw. Until that point I had been enjoying my lunch. I must commend the staff for their promptness; the lady working the outside bar apologised and said she was take the matter to a colleague. Although it was appreciated I believe a personal apology from the Duty Manager would have been nice.

Nice pub, lovely staff 👍 Whilst meals are probably on the more expensive side you get your monies worth; tasty, homemade and lots of it. They've also got draft Black Sheep, which is worth a few stars on its own 👍🍺

A great pub in Sandsend. Friendly and helpful staff, very quick service and masses of outdoor seating at the front and in the garden. Food was standard pub grub supplemented with various seafood options and specials., It arrived very quickly with huge portions.

Great pub very friendly service Good selection of beers very good food. Not the cheapest but can't fault the quality. Would definitely go back and recommend to everyone love this place
