As for the food, it's hard to find the right words to do it justice. Catering for dietary needs is handled seamlessly and respectfully, with an accommodating food allergy menu that didn't skimp on variety or flavor. The homemade gnocchi with tomato, basil, and buffalo mozzarella was a revelation. Each bite was like a warm embrace, the gnocchi's delicate texture paired exquisitely with the rich sauce.
The tortellini au gratin, boasting a hearty Bolognese ragu and creamy besciamella sauce, was similarly impressive. Meanwhile, the roast beef of melino, served with a refreshing salad of potatoes and parsley, was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful.
Vegetarian options shine as well; the grilled eggplant millefeuille with carasau bread, feta cheese, and mint was an intriguing blend of textures and tastes that delighted the palate.
Their desserts are another story altogether. The Panna "poco" cotta, adorned with fragole al balsamico, was creamy yet light, the balsamic strawberries providing a tangy counterpoint. The Sorbetti di frutta fresca di nostra produzione secondo mercato was the perfect palate cleanser, with its refreshing and vibrant fruit flavors.
The meal culminated with an exquisite cappuccino. Perfectly balanced, the bitter notes of the coffee harmoniously blend with the sweetness of the frothed milk, serving as the ideal full stop to a gastronomic journey.

We're quite picky when it comes to a good cuisine. I'm soo glad that the Google reviews helped us pick a place to eat. I didn't mind staying inside as we didn't book a table on a fairly small terrace. Interior has a nice upper class artsy vibe to it. Service is always a big part of a culinary experience. Each and every person who served us tonight was a professional - friendly attitude and ability to advise. The quality of food served was on a high level. Typical Tuscan rabbit cake, pasta with ragu and also wine. Everything did just simply fit...Hence I'm taking the time to post a review. Thanks to the whole team, we enjoyed every bit of this evening!

The Crusted Artichoke was a bit too mushy throughout, although the rabbit pie was pretty good.
For mains, we had the fried sea food and the leek tart.
The leek tart was good for the first 2 bites, but it was so sweet and overwhelming we simply couldn't continue eating it. The fried sea food was very similar - everything, including the veg, was covered in batter and there was no flavour variation. You were being hit with the same strong and overwhelming flavours on repeat. The problem with both dishes is they had nothing to balance them, no sides of any sort - we thought we may have ordered incorrectly (and missed ordering sides) but both dishes were recommended by the staff as-is.
The restaurant itself created a very nice ambiance and the staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. It's a real shame the food was such a let down.

The staff is very professional, the atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and the service very efficient.
It's a little expensive in comparison to some other options in the area, but it is an absolutely amazing dining experience! If you are slightly interested in having dinner here I would suggest making reservations as soon as possible as it seems to be a very desirable restaurant.
My boyfriend and I spent over one week in Italy, and this was one of our top favorite restaurants. The bolognese was incredible, and the pasta with marinated sea bass was so unique and spectacular. Our waitress Francesca was very sweet and welcoming. We loved Lucca and we will come back here the next time we visit!
Immaculate service in a gorgeous setting in the city. There were free refreshing drinks and a "mouth amuser" included, our kids loved the drink. The food was perfectly cooked and the menu imaginative with creative, modern twists on the classics. Highly recommended, it wasn't too pricey either.

Focaccia 🫓: Absolutely amazing! Crunchy, flavorful, and freshly baked. We loved it so much that we asked for more even after the waiter had already taken the full order… and he kindly brought it anyway!

My family and I adored this little find. We were right at the witching hour (230pm) when we asked if the kitchen was open (after three knock backs) and they were more than welcoming. There is a small outdoor terrace but we ate inside. Classically italian / european interior - tasteful with nothing over the tip. We had a two antipasti (local salumi) and the ceccina and baccala. Then the roasted tuscan chicken and tagliatelle with porcini. My sone had a plate of perfectly cooked spaghetti in ragu (he loved it). Some local red wine and prosecco to start. More than perfect service and All for 100 euros.

Favorite restaurant so far in Lucca! Located inside the walls, around the corner from Hotel Ilaria, the food, service and ambience were all great. Loved the chicken with melt in your mouth roasted potatoes and the branzino. The pear, walnut and Parm salad with a drizzle of honey was the best we've ever eaten! We are sure to return this week! Grazie mille ai nostri camerieri.
This was the best dinner we had during our stay in Lucca. The food was excellent and they had a great selection of wonderful wines, a lot of them local to the region. We sat outside, which was lovely. It seemed to take them a little while to warm up to us, but the service was quite quick and attentive. Make sure to make a reservation!

Another wonderful experience at this fabulous restaurant in Lucca! We had a gathering here the night before our wedding in 2017 and it was so perfect we had to come back and visit again. We had a beautiful meal on the outdoor terrace as the sun set and the evening light is stunning. It was wonderful to see the lovely Simona again, which made our evening even more special. ❤️
A random choice as I wrapped up visiting the botanical garden and was hungry. Noticed the lovely spot as I was walking along the wall and decided to give it a try. I ordered 2 antipasti items for my lunch and they were both incredible! The roasted heirloom carrots with fresh herbs and cream sauce was insanely good. Top notch. And the fried pecorino with pear, honey and cinnamon coulis was decadent yet not heavy. Wish I was visiting Lucca longer as I would love to return for dinner!
We had drinks and wanted to have lunch but the lady staff is not that welcome us to order food except pizza with funny reasons. Then when our drinks were served, the man waiter spilled my drink on the table and knocked our chips bowl so hard until the chip fell out with little expression of ‘sorry’ and not even bother to pick up that chip!!! Not recommended this place at all. Pity that its such a nice setting.

Lovely establishment on the wall, while a family can dine on Pizza outside, the interior is reserved for more upscale dining. Food was very nicely presentes and tasted. delicious.
We came in hoping to enjoy a few drinks and a good time. While we were promptly seated, the staff then completely ignored us for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, tables that arrived after us received immediate attention. It genuinely felt like if you're American, you're welcome, but if you're European, you're invisible. Another example of a beautiful Italian location with very poor staff and service. Very disappointing. We won’t be coming back.

Also don’t be fooled, kids will love it and the owners are amazing and can accomodate to make sure everyone is happy.
It could be easy to miss this restaurant as it’s quite a small place with just a few tables. The menu is concise but there’s something to suit everyone. The ravioli of the day was simple yet perfect. Dessert was homemade plum cake served with ice cream, just enough to leave you wanting more.
I would definitely recommend a visit here if you like fresh home cooked traditional food. Loved it

We were staying just outside the city walls, and saw the great reviews. In a town of tourists, it's charm is that it ISNT touristy. We arrived early (1900) w a toddler and sat outside in the shade. The restaurant was not busy and the service was impeccable. The menu isn't expansive, but every dish is one of kind, made on the spot and the chef only uses fresh ingredients.
Charming little ‘hole in the wall’ with great wine list, a few cocktails and well made, straightforward Italian food. Great place for aperitivo or just hanging out in the calmer part of central Lucca.
This cozy, warm and welcoming restaurant is worth the wait. The staff were super nice, attentive, and know how to prepare food. I wanted some comfort food, and that's exactly what I received. The burger was seasoned and cooked perfectly, served with a small side salad, and potatoes. The burger bun was soft and light and had cheese, onions, and tomato. The salad was dressed with a light oil and came with tomatoes and carrot shavings. The fries were delicious and not oily or heavy. All the menu items were reasonably priced. A very satisfying dinner, comfortable atmosphere, and delicious food -- the perfect ending to a day of travel and the beginning of our stay in Lucca.

The girl with me chose this place that doesn't impress me so much; in my opinion it miss of personality. The waitress was nice, kind and efficient. The food was really good with high quality of the ingredients; we really loved "crocchette di Alici" that were gorgeous, something that deserve to be eaten. Anyway the price was too high and the portions were small.

Great outdoor seating next to the wall. Fantastic „tapas style“ menu. Anchovies and butter, foies Gras, tartare and many more. Food was excellent and on a very high level, reasonably priced and portion was not too small. I went for the wine recommendations from the waitress and was not disappointed. Got a nice orange white wine and fruity red wine to my dishes.
VERY friendly staff, who really try their best to make you feel appreciated and welcome. Also explained the menu to me and took their time to recommend a wine.

Vinarkia Della Pavona is a vintage-glam wine bar and shop that offers a wide selection of Italian wines and zingy cocktails. The cozy interior with heavily beamed ceilings and glossy dark-wood booths creates a welcoming atmosphere, while the outdoor areas are perfect for enjoying drinks in pleasant weather. The owners, Nicola and Rebecca, provide excellent service and are happy to make recommendations.
We quite enjoyed this small but cozy wine bar and restaurant. Small outdoor seating, cozy bar area, a few inside tables, and some garden-like outdoor seating. Friendly staff and several good wine options for under €10 per glass. Also, beer on tap. The food menu is small with only a limited number of options. It get more crowded as it gets later! Of course!

Cozy outdoor terrace restaurant with excellent food and local charm
A hidden gem in the old town. I had the Eggplant Parmigiana and it was absolutely delicious, full of flavour and perfectly prepared. The recommended red wine from the region paired wonderfully with the dish, and I finished with a refreshing Limoncello.
The outdoor terrace was peaceful and inviting; the atmosphere was relaxed. Service was warm and attentive throughout.
Price-performance is excellent, especially for such a central location. I would happily come back!

We absolutely loved this place. We went there almost every evening while in Lucca and we fell in love with the beautiful atmosphere, the romantic garden in the back but most of all with the staff. They made us feel so welcome and we laughed a lot. The cocktails were surprising and delicious, with the Santa Maria and Pomelo Negroni being our favorites. We had the vegetarian board and they were very accommodating to one of us eating vegan. This is a must go when you are in Lucca!

I took a vegetarian “tagliere” with a selection of grilled veggies and cheeses, a cauliflower flan and tiramisu as dessert. Everything was superb. I come here every time I’m in Lucca and I’ll keep coming :)
Smallest wine pour ever! I paid 15 euro for less than a 4 oz. pour. I said something and they talked to me like I've never ordered a nice glass of wine! Very demeaning and rude. I was ready to stay for drinking and eating for the evening but I let my feet do my talking. I left without spending another penny. This place was completely disappointing! There are too many amazing places in Lucca to waste my time on a place trying to screw their clientele!
We chose Vinarkia fairly spontaneously, but were so glad we did after two hours of wonderful service and fantastic drinks.
The team are both welcoming and informed, so if you're coming to take advantage of their wine credentials you won't be disappointed. We were there for a couple of spritz before dinner, and honestly one you've had a couple here you'll realise the difference with the many others you'll be served around town... these are people who care about the drinks they serve.
It's also just a brilliant vibe. Great playlist, and lots of opportunity for people watching. The charcuterie boards looked delicious from a distance as well.
Were we not here for only a night, we'd be back straight away.

The place is really beautiful and cozy, there are books and board games, the menu is pretty interesting, food and coffee tasty.
However, I found the pricing a bit weird. After we took a place and got ready to order, we found out that there are 2 types of coffee - veloce (fast) and relax, and both types are basically the same, the difference (x2 in price!) is about where do you sit or how fast you drink (it was not really clear). Even though we had to pay two times more for the coffee, we also still had to pay for service. When it comes for service - firstly I got cappuccino instead of double espresso, then they forgot about the cinnamon - not a big issue, but for this price I’d expect something really perfect and relaxing.
I appreciate a bowl of water for my dog, however the bowl was pretty dirty, would be nice to get a clean one without something floating in it. Also, a waiter made a sharp movement towards my dog so that my dog got irritated - I’m pretty sure he did it for a reason, looked like he wanted to annoy the dog and laugh. Not funny at all. I understand maybe he didn’t mean anything bad, but why do you have to make another creature to feel bad and anxious, why do you have to cause bad emotions for someone? And if you have to - please use someone else for it, not my dog.
Overall, probably it’s still a nice place to relax and have a drink and some food. Maybe I just didn’t have the best experience. Despite everything, the service was friendly. I’d advice to make pricing more clear to avoid confusion.
Absolutely loved spending time at H&G. Our group enjoyed it so much, in fact, we came back the next day for breakfast again! Great people, beautiful atmosphere, and yummy food.
