Who would have thought you can order pizza at a traditional Japanese restaurant in a traditional Japanese onsen town. Well, the pizza is actually very, very good - thin crusty base with very stretchy tasty cheese. The ramen, katsu curry are also very delicious with great depth of flavour. However, the pizza is still the highlight... We wanted to try more dishes and hence we have already re-booked to go back in 2 days time to try the other pizzas.

Very comfortable sitting place, good service they provide kids cutlery for each dishes we need to share with kids. Decent food

Cosy, traditional Japanese restaurant. There is a mix of Japanese and Western style table seating. The menu is also a mix of Japanese and Western food. Ordering is done through a tablet at the table in Japanese or English. Cash or card payment okay.

It is a nice restaurant with good service. The food is not bad, worth a good value of money and it came fast. There is an English menu there. It is good for families. Ordered the pizza, chicken, salad. Overall, it is great!

A lovely little a-la-carte restaurant. The interior is split into an "old pub" style area with tables and a bar, and a small traditional Japanese area for customers to sit on tatami mats. A docile cat lounges at the bar that customers are free to pat. Food is ordered from an iPad (English and Japanese) and service is efficient. Food is brought out as it is ready. This restaurant offers rice/curry dishes, noodle dishes, sides (including salads and fried foods), pizza, drinks, and dessert. Vegetarian options are also available.

the portions are HUGE. the kimchi pizza is the best. have to make reservation if want to have a meal at a decent time.

If you're craving a standard burger along with all the grease and carbs and fat (I mean all of this in a good/ delicious way), then this place is for you. I can see its appeal after a day on the slopes and you just want to satisfy that carb craving. For a burger, it's pretty solidly average. But for a burger on the mountain after a solid day of skiing, it's great. Food takes a while after ordering since they cook the burger fresh. Shop is tiny with a few seats so it might be better to order takeout. Service is great and the guys who run the shop are super friendly.

If you are a little sick of Japanese food, you should really try out this burger place ! The beef patty was amazingly good. I had the YAMABIKO B (DELUXE). Also you need to try the fries. No reservation allow and the place is very small so limited seats.

Nice burger joint jn nozawa. Stumbled across it as we needed something about quick. Guys were prompt in service and atmosphere cosy. Warm and inviting. Burgers pretty good as well. Better than i had expected and worth the rating. We had the yami A and yami B.

We came here for dinner tonight and this place did not disappoint. We ordered the one Genki and Abunai each and they were delicious in their own way with very different flavors. We also ordered a original Loaded Fries and they were delicious and quite filling. The wait time is what it is because these burgers are cooked to order so we were happy to wait. The place is cozy, but there is enough seating and the dinner crowd quickly filled the space. I thought the price was quite reasonable for the freshness and the quality. You get what you pay for. I recommend this for anyone looking for a top notch burger while they’re here and I would revisit again. Also, they have a hot sauce available to try that I haven’t seen before and it has a real kick which mixed nicely to the ketchup.

Nice delicious burger 🍔. We ordered no.1 and 4 from the menu list. No.4 is very delicious, it come with egg and nozawa veg pickles. Limited seat in the small shop, but the burger is delicious, worth the wait.

Genki Burger is defined one of the best burger spot in Japan! We visit every time we are in the area—it never gets old. We love the loaded hot fries—served with chopped up jalapeños. I always go for the veggie burgers. They’re all delicious, but the lotus and fried tofu edge out the mushroom for me. Highly recommend this if you’re in the area.

Convenient little shop with a burger menu where each item is named after the pistes of the snow resort. It's nothing amazing, the burgers rely on sauce to be tasty, so when no sauce is used it's really quite average. The staff are helpful and attentive, it's not a bad restaurant, it has a comfy sort of feel.

My friends and I planned to go to nozawa onsen to snowboard but unfortunately I had an injury and i couldn’t join them, instead I walked around and took a few photos. Saw this nearby the ski resort entrance, i was hesitant at first because it seems all customers are foreigners. But i did go and it was nice. It’s been a long time since I spoke english and it was rough 😂🥲 the staff or owner is a foreigner but can speak Japanese so 日本人でも大丈夫だよ🙆‍♀️ they offer craft beer and a lot of snacks too.

We have been customers of The Craft Room since we began visiting Nozawa Onsen. This is our favorite lunch spot after hitting the slopes. The restaurant is located right near the gondola, which is extremely convenient. When there is snow, you can ski up! My go-to items are the brekkie bagel and chicken pesto panini. If you’re in the area, spot by! We enjoy coming here year after year! Thank you all—great staff!

Great pre ski and après ski spot. Am start with a pirate coffee (late with rum and baileys) and a breaki bagel, sets you up nicely for the day. Super friendly staff has definitely replaced gondula cafe by a country mile.

I haven't been in ski resorts for a decade and I was so surprised and happy that there is a western place like this! You will be craving for this kind of tasty food after skiing with a pint of beer! Chicken wing was good but the taste was a bit strong. I don't like the high chair as I'm not tall enough. There is only one table seat with the normal chair.

Update: Came back a few weeks later, and the management really did seem to take my feedback to heart because it seemed better ventilated this time and not as stuffy, even with a crowd of people. Good work! Updating to 5 stars! :) Original review: A fun spot to grab a drink or coffee right at the foot of the gondola. The hot chocolate I had was exactly what I wanted after skiing all day. When we went, it was very crowded, which made it pretty stuffy, so ventilation could be improved. But all in all, the drinks were good and the staff was very nice and spoke English.

I may be biased due to my love for beer, but they had the local Joy Juice on tap...so I was there more than I should. Food was good, staff were cool and there was chill music. Luckily the weather wasn't ideal for skiing the few days in Feb we were there, so the time I spent imbibing was not at the expense of deep powder!

3rd season we went to Akari for breakfast or dinner (~10times in total). Tasty food and pizzas, and good quality for the price. The place is cozy and really good if you want to relax. The staff is really friendly and welcoming !

Fantastic sleeping with the windows open as you can hear the water running through the village. Very peaceful setting.

We ordered take away and I got the order wrong. Instead of just leaving it, the staff identified the issue and contacted me via WhatsApp — amazing service! The pizzas are great. We ordered six to our Karaoke place and they were well received by everyone. Very nice pizza.

Incredible service, location and hosts. Gab (the owner) assisted us immensely when our kids got sick and was so helpful when we needed to get to hospital. Location is so convenient to both the snow and the rest of town. Don’t get me started on the food options. So so great!

I was a local on Nozawa Onsen over the winter and went to Akari numerous times. Love their breakfast and pastries ❣️ In Spring they have a small patio and you can have drinks outside, perfect spot for a sunset. Highly recommended!

We popped in for a last minute dinner here and luckily secured a table for two. Would recommend booking if you have a larger group as the restaurant is on the smaller side. We shared a pizza and dessert and it did not disappoint. The cheesecake was top tier, I wish I took one home. The dessert options were amazing! Pizza was also yummy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Great place!!

Phenomenal restaurant and hotel in the middle of Nozawa. Their unique dinner course of fusion dishes using local ingredients is a must try. Friendly staff and cozy interior. Very popular, so advance reservation is required. Their cafe on the 1st floor offers great coffee, gelato and light meals as well.

Impeccable local style local at the heart of Nozawa Onsen. The hotel comes with its private onsen with bath area for guests to book 1 hour per day per room, which gives us some privacy compare to public onsen. Thy served daily breakfast with amazing home made jam with nozawa spring water. Staff were super friendly and accommodating, look for Misa the main manager. The hotel also served a unique dinner menu, very curated and special. The parmesan risotto is a must! Price - okay Location - great Ambience - great Stafff - great Cleanliness - Great Those jam is a must buy!

Cute and cosy cafe attached to the hotel. Coffee is great, and they have the option of soy milk. The house made ice creams are incredible, with interesting Japanese inspired flavours (think Green tea choc chip, roasted sesame, purple sweet potato for example). Steamed buns available on the street and inside. Sells lots of special jams. Their mulled wine is a lovely treat after a day on the slopes.

Some of the best craft gelato I have ever had anywhere different flavors every day and the coffee is excellent they also sell homemade jams here and other goodies

Cute cafe on the Main Street in Nozawa Onsen. It is mostly tea, coffee, and small meals. They do have a few warm wines and snacks. I tried the Ginger wine and the Ringo bun. Both were tasty and nice after being in the cold all day! The ginger wine wasn't too sweet - which is my preference! This shop also has more open hours than many of the surrounding shops, which makes it a great choice if you're looking for somewhere mid afternoon.

Delicious Matcha ice cream & best coffee in the town , famous steam bun outside few different flavours , lots great souvenirs you can find here including postcards, t shirt , coffee mugs while waiting for your coffee, friendly & chill staff , you could book monkey tour here too.

Very nice modern cafe which specialises in jam made from local produce. There are not a lot of tables but patrons come and go pretty quickly if you are prepared to wait a little. They have a good selection of gelatos and nice expresso coffees. The other highlight is the steam bun store just outside the shop (definitely a must try after a hard day skiing)

Super good quality soda noodles and that delicious soup with pork or prawn tempura! Must try. You can’t make reservation and they have limited dining hours. So please go early !

It was worth the hour in line. I ordered the grated Japanese yam cold soba, regular size. The egg and yam, with the added wasabi dipping sauce was a whole new experience. It coated the soba and made it so silky. I couldn’t get enough of it! I’m not a big eater but I ended up ordering a second soba because it was so good! And also wanted to try the hot soba 😋 got the shrimp tempera and it just hit the spot. Warmed me up so satisfyingly. I did end up preferring the cold soba dish more because the texture of the noodle and it held together better. Very friendly people and the order came quickly. They open at 5:30 - 8pm for dinner and I didn’t get their lunch hours.

This place get pretty busy at night. On a cold night, waiting outside for a long time was not something I desired. We did go back during lunch and they weren’t as busy. Their soba was good and and portion is quite generous. Everything is reasonably priced.

Simple fuss free meal here for days when I want a light meal. Love the cold soba noodles and the tempura batter was light. Ordered the tororo to dip the cold soba in and it gave a slimy silky eggy texture which was interesting (in a good way!).

Really enjoyed the tempura soba and even more so the cold soba. I thought that was very unique to dip the soba noodles into the broth then eat them. All around it was a very delicious meal and I would go back again. One of the highlights was sitting at the communal table and interacting with locals with limited English. Great experiences!

Zenzaru soba is delicious! Soba is awesome and the tempura is mouth watering! Highly recommended! Tempura soba hot is also very nice. 👍🏿👍🏿

This sushi restaurant unfortunately fell short of expectations. Pros: * Good Service: The Japanese sushi chef was friendly and had a good sense of humor. The waitress speaks fluent English which is a good plus. * Large Portions: The omakaze menus offer copious amounts of food. Cons: * Outdated: The restaurant and kitchen appear outdated and in need of renovation. * Average Sushi: The quality of the sushi was average, and the accompanying starters and side dishes were unremarkable. I even forgot to take a picture of the sushi... * Limited Options: Only two omakaze menus are available, without much room for customization or a-la-carte orders. * Lack of Explanation: Sushi were all served on a platter with little to no explanation of the different pieces. * High Price: The price point seemed high considering the quality of the food and the ambiance. Overall: While the service was pleasant, the outdated decor, average sushi, and high price tag left me disappointed. For a truly exceptional sushi experience in the area, I highly recommend Tengu Sushi instead.

So we were on holidays and booked 2 weeks ahead of time for a special sushi meal. They took our booking for 7:30pm and requested we choose our meal type in advance. We turned up and restaurant was closed for the night. No warning. No notice. Pretty slack.

Average sushi and grossly overpriced. Terrible ambience in the restaurant - we sat at the bar in front of the sushi chef who stood there watching TV to our left for the entire sitting. Don’t be fooled by the “fully booked for today” sign out front, it’s because there are only 9 seats.

Extremely overpriced and lacking in service. I strongly advise against dining here. I made a reservation for this restaurant through our hostel during our stay, and it turned out to be a horrible experience. I want to emphasize that I have great respect for the Japanese people and have visited Japan numerous times (20+), but this was by far the worst dining experience I've ever had. We prebooked the 'Dragon set,' which was supposed to include a hotpot, fried chicken, simmered food, appetizer, 16 sushis, preserved veggies, and a dessert. Firstly, the hotpot arrived, and the waitress seemed clueless about what to do. There was only one waiter serving, and she simply lit the fire and didn't provide any instructions on how to proceed with the hotpot. We sat there for a good 15 minutes before overhearing her telling the next table that the hotpot is ready when the fish is cooked. We had to ask her if our pot was ready and if we could order drinks, to which she replied, "Ah yes, sorry, I forgot about it." The appetizer came AFTER the fried chicken, which is a complete lack of proper sequencing. The waitress hurriedly placed everything on our table while we hadn't even finished our first course. It felt like she was trying to serve all the food at once instead of following a proper order. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, especially considering the high prices they charge. Furthermore, we overheard the waitress serving appetizers to the next table, only to take away one of the dishes and tell the poor customers, "Oh sorry, they're not for you. Some other guests arrived first, so they're theirs." This left us and the other foreigners in complete disbelief. It was truly astonishing. The sushi was far from fresh. Four of the sushi rolls contained only cucumbers, which was quite disappointing and unexpected. The simmered food was served while we were still working on our sushis. Additionally, they were not served hot and lacked flavor. It was a terrible experience overall. The dessert, a chocolate mousse with Japanese pear, was the only redeeming aspect of the meal. It was delicious and exceeded our expectations. The price of the meal per person was a whopping ¥8800. It's evident that this restaurant is targeting tourists. So bad. There should be a reason why this restaurant was totally empty in dinner time. Fish is not fresh, you will get frozen fish, and oden...it was a joke to us. I will rather eat oden from Convini.

A delightful experience- set menu and delicious meal. Charming front of house and authentic sushi chef. Mindful of special diets including gluten free for colic and non- meat eaters. We visited twice and would highly recommend. PS most restaurants in NO have a TV playing. 😊

This was ok...... staff are amazing, but in my opinion the rating is all about the taste and value for money. If you want a healthy meal this is probably for you. If you want Mexican with lots of flavour, cheese and value for money, then probably not. Very expensive for something that is relatively unseasoned. Lovely lovely staff, people and environment but food wasn't super yummy and too expensive for what it is. Not sure if my written review reflects my rating but it isn't worth more then 50% in my opinion, sorry.

Was the third place we tried that said it was open and thank god it was open! We were hungry after snowboarding all day and we were full at the end. We shared a large burrito bowl, a taco and some jalapeño poppers. The sauce was a bit more marinara tasting than Mexican and overall had very western undertones. It lacked Mexican spice and we were charged 200yen for jalepenos on our tacos (there were 5 slices in total). The food came so quick and was for sure pre-made and then microwaved (no hate). Overall it was okay but I wish I let my stomach not get the better of me and had have had more of a look around.

Came here for early dinner with no reservation and we were lucky enough to get a table even though the restaurant was fully booked but we were told to be out before 6. We had to quickly order and I got the chicken rice bowl as well as the nachos. The chicken was yummy although quite dry and I couldn't really taste much flavour overall. I would come back but I would probably order something else. We also got the burrito which was much more worth the price as the serving size is quite large! Staff were friendly and service was great! Lovely ambiance as well despite the restaurant being quite small.

Delicious food and GREAT jalapeño margaritas. I was grateful that all the food was labeled with gf/v for my gluten allergies and being a vegetarian. Such a cute little spot - wish it was a bit bigger because it’s just that great! The staff was super genki and kind even though we had a big group. They care about covid protocols and that made us feel safe. Will hopefully be back!

Yummy Mexican food and delightful margaritas and sangria. The staff speaks English and are very friendly. They have gluten free and vegetarian options. A reservation is recommended on nights when the town is crowded with tourists.

Food wasn't as good as what we make at home on a weeknight, but a lot more expensive. We ordered large portions of nachos and rice bowls, but they didn't look or feel bigger than our friend's regular. Mould on the wall behind me which I only noticed after the food had already arrived. Waiters we're nice but it was far too expensive for the quality of food.

Cute little coffee shop above the ski rental place upstairs for some reason it only brings up the one in town but the one up on the hill is where I went they could use some more seating and chairs in here would make it much nicer and some stools along the bar would be helpful but the snacks were delicious and the coffee was great and very nice mugs

First nights dinner in Nozawa Onsen and we were graced with some delicious food and excellent customer service. This owner run business sure completes a full day on the slopes. They provide a variety of food and large selection of traditional Japanese whiskey's. Highly recommended.

Fantastic,best meal in nozawa onsen so far. Nice and spacious, not hurried, great service and food. The steak and the risotto rate a mention but the dessert was also fabulous. Go there but book.

Shichirohei cafe is one of the best cafes in Nozawa Onsen. I believe the only one which offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great food, great coffee. The roast beef salad is a highlight. They serve alcohol and have happy hour specials. Great views. Very nice style with beautiful wooden floors and tables.

Came in here a few times as the breakfast and lunch was quite good. Great hot and cold drinks and fancy nibblies at a reasonable price. Try the breakfast burger, pancakes and anchovy pizza.

This lovely izakaya is situated in the first floor basement just under the heart of Nozawa Onsen. Everything i ate was delicious and freshly made , and presented with care. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I can easily recommend this as a place to have food and drinks for the night. I didn't rate the atmosphere 5 stars in my review as it happened to be empty at the time , however, that may be because I came on a rainy December day when the ski fields were closed.

Great paced meal - lovely service. Beautifully curated sake specials. The smelt, grilled onigiri, pickles, sashimi, meatballs, chicken yakitori, all just so great. Definitely make a reservation and you can eat and drink slowly and totally enjoy. In a basement but with more seating than anticipated. A really fun and super delicious experience. The butter corn and butter potato were SO good. Ate and drank a lot - 13100 JPY for two of us. Oh and tons of lemon sours were had!

Decent Izakaya at Tsukushinbo Nozawaonsen. A bit more sophisticated than Sakai but still decent pricing. Check out the Grilled Atka Mackerel…

Incredible food in a nondescript location. The Yellowtail was simply one of the best things I ate the entire trip to Japan. Overall a bit too pricey but about half the dishes were well worth it. The French chef behind the bar was very helpful and we enjoyed our conversations with him. This spot is popular with locals and now getting very popular with tourists so best to book a few days ahead.

Good izakaya tucked away in the basement. Our fav dish was the hokke which was perfectly cooked it was almost buttery!

Definitely get a reservation. We showed up around 830 and had luck getting a table after waiting for a bit, but I think we just lucked out. Popping place with a fantastic specials list, delicious food, and great sake list. We over ordered and ate it all. We will definitely go back, our server Yugi was a bad ass with great recommendations. Some things we ordered: octopus Wasabi, chicken skewers, stick cheese, puffer fish skin, all sorts of shashimi, fried chicken, rice balls. Sadly, I didn't get a single photo.. we were enthralled and enjoying too much

Had very high hopes for this place after reading many positive reviews. The staff were great and very friendly, but unfortunately the food spoke to the lower star reviews. The food was mediocre - maybe half as good as other places in town, and almost 8x the price. The portions were small, especially given the price tag, which is fine as long as the food is outstanding. However it was not. Some of the starters were solid. The steak was overcooked and nothing special, the rice portion was tiny. All in all, this place is a tourist trap catering to Australians who want a comfortable teppanyaki experience away from home. I strongly recommend dining at other local spots in town

Love love love! Food was amazing. Great stories and every detail was spot on. Each bite and every course melted in your mouth. All the staff were magnificent attentive. Up with my best meals across Japan this trip. Location is perfect for this town. Will be back soon.

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and it was such an amazing experience. The food was to die for and the atmosphere was so intimate and comforting. Also caters to any group, we had a group of friends a family and another couple. Definitely worth the lengthy reservation time.

A magical place - possibly THE BEST steak EVER! A must-visit for anyone traveling to Nozawa. Our whole family are huge fans. My favorite - the Wagyu - absolute perfection. Add in the wine pairing - incredible!

The WORST teppanyaki in my entire life! Beef was over-cooked, chewy as hell. It is disrespectful for the wagyu. It is not even 10% of the Japanese standard but charging way higher than surrounding restaurants. We stayed for 4 nights and tried 4 restaurants and this one was the most disappointing and expensive one. I have been to Japan over 30 times and I can tell this is definitely not a Japanese-owned restaurant and if you want to experience a tourist trap, go for it!

My daughter has a slight cough so I thought it would be polite to not bring her with the family in such an intimate setting. We were still charged full price for both her and myself. There was no offer for the food to be taken home nor was it made clear that being polite would incur the full fee. Very disappointing experience. The lesson is - If you have a sick child make sure you take them and ruin everyone else’s meal.

First time trying nozawana on top of pizza and omg it works so well definitely recommend it!!!

I haven’t tried everything on the menu here, but I tend to stick with my favorites—and honestly, they never disappoint. Every visit leaves me with a smile. The hearty Nozawana dish with pork and cheese hits the spot, especially after a few hours out in the snow. It's warm, comforting, and full of flavor. The French Toast? Absolute perfection. Light, fluffy, and just the right amount of indulgent—it’s almost too good to share (Don’t!). Pro tip: get there early. This place fills up fast, and for good reason.

The staff or administration does absolutely nothing against the seat-saving culture that plagues this place. I had a plate of food purchased and walked around for 20 minutes like an idiot looking for a table. Tables that I could have sat down to eat my food were being "reserved" by other people who haven't even ordered food yet. So you'll find many tables full of ski gear but otherwise vacant. Customers already with food should have priority, not the other way around. I ended up putting away my plate of UNTOUCHED food on the dishwashing racks.

One of the “flagship” eateries in Nozawaonsen Ski Resort, located nearby Nagasaka gondola top station. Tasty, broad selection of food and drinks, crowded as expected on a ski resort.

This place just keeps getting better over the years. With the new gondola station, the first floor has been converted to a large seating area and pizza is served on the first floor while everything else is available on the second floor. Seating used to be a problem during lunch time but with expanded seating it’s much better now. The food is delicious but if you had to try one thing, go for the garlic steak rice. It’s the most popular item for good reason.

Come here if you’re hungry and every other place in town is fully booked. To be fair, did not try every vendor there but ordered food from 3 different ones and it was very mid. Not bad. Just not really good either. Had to spit out 2 of the oysters we ordered.

We had one of our best Japanese local experience here last year on a warm sunny evening in June, with the sun setting behind the hills. We very much enjoyed the food and our drink here with our kids. They had a great time playing and running around with the local kids. The atmosphere was relaxed and joyful.

A new place in Nozawa city where various restaurants unite together serving takoyaki, french fried, steak, udon, soba, juice, alcohol, and etc. The price is a little bit high compre to the portion we get but the taste is fine. Most staff speak English and they are really polite. They also have darts.

Came here for dinner when all the restaurants in the village were fully booked as our friend recommended this place. Free seating and there is also upstairs seating available. There are a few stalls mainly serving Thai, noodles or fried food. I ordered from the Thai stall and I got the Gapao rice. It was actually really delicious as I had never tried it before although it took over 40 minutes to arrive.

The pork katsu don is not bad, the vegetable tempura is also good. The fried chicken wings is really delicious too, although a little bit salty.

Plenty of options for everyone, great food & lively atmosphere! Good for groups… you would want to get there early though!

Nice place to sit down and get a good drink if you have a group larger than 2 people. However, their toilet is absolutely disgusting. Mixed boys and girls, smells of urine, overflowing trash can two days in a row. Needs a total overhaul and then to be maintained each night. Also, karaoke should be free if you are spending money on drinks in a place all night!

Worst beer in Japan. The two girls behind the bar obviously do not like each other, one looked liked she hadn’t showered or brushed her hair in several days, and both were eating, drinking and using their phones behind the bar, totally ignoring their customers. It’s about as far away from Heaven as you can get in Nozawa!

We have friends who are regular visitors to Nozawaonsen so we knew what to expect from Kaze no Ie and they didn't disappoint, including turning away people when we were the only guests seated, and bringing out each dish one at a time with a 20 min gap to the next one and we loved it. The food was amazing, but we will go again simply for the entertainment provided by the 1-star reviewers.

Very good Italian food and wonderful service. I'm glad we ignored the 1 star reviews because the food was delicious, the wine list was well thought out, and the service was excellent. I can imagine if it were busier, some people could get frustrated because it seems it is just the local couple doing everything. However, i think anyone who adjusts expectations for speed of service will have an excellent experience.

I enjoyed the food and service. Knowing that pizza could be a tad bit slow I ordered bruschetta as appetizer. It was loaded with fresh cherry tomatoes and very tasty. Being seated at the counter wasn't my first choice but actually OK as they try to accommodate larger groups at the tables. It was easy to get a seat even on a peak season Saturday night. Service was friendly - perhaps me speaking Japanese helped. They take credit card via Square. The mixed reviews likely stem from different expectations. This ain't Pizza Hut - it's a locally run restaurant. For pizza especially, expectations are so different (go chase me with a Chicago depends dish "pie"), that's its best to look at the photos.

Small place, great value for a good steak, well seasoned, great drinks options from beers, mocktails, gins, whisky. Tried the Black Angus beef, was delish! Cooked medium well and made with perfect charred lines :) There are only 3 tables inside which seats four each, however there is a bar section as well for extra seats. English menu and English speaking staff were really helpful. Would recommend this place for steak lovers.

Disappointing. We had been looking forward to this for a few days. Booked a table for four 3 days out having heard it was popular, only to be seated at a “bar” upstairs. Turns out it wasn’t a bar, but a dish cleaning station, so we had to endure that throughout our meal. (Turns out they had a bigger booking come along so had obviously bumped us). The service was rushed, the food was ok but certainly not great and definitely over priced. The ¥5000 steak said it came with vegetables- I counted 9 corn kernels, 1 carrot slice, and a piece of broccoli the size I used to feed my toddlers. I mean come on? We never mind paying money for good value food or service, but this was neither. Please take this feedback onboard and do better for your customers.

Came here for Ramen as it was one of the better ones in the area. Wasnt that impressed to be honest. Noodles felt instant noodle like. Soup ok but agree with others its probably the best in nozawa.

Very possibly one of the best ramen I've ever had. The standard pork ramen was only 800 yen, the broth was complex and delicate. Service was warm and friendly. Atmosphere was perfect fit for the no-nonsense vibe of the place.

The ramen was pretty good the Fried Chicken was good and the gyoza were excellent it's downstairs kind of in a basement but when all the other restaurants are closed these people were open so we were very happy about that

It was okay ramen in Nozawa but not the best in Japan, perhaps the best in Nozawa but I didn't try enough to compare. Never had butter ramen before but I don't think it added too much to the flavour. Very welcoming and nice owners. Best to book a reservation before going.

Huge portions here. Owner has pictures of his friend who won gold in 1998 ski championships. One of the few places open for lunch and we will definitely be back. We found the shoyu based ramen (corn and wantan) too salty but loved the spicy miso and the Nozawana ramen.

Good selection of ramen and some appetizers. We ordered the original ramen, miso ramen and the spicy Nozawa ramen. Honestly, the original ramen was the most tasty. The spicy ramen has some kick to it with a hint of sourness. The price is reasonable ~¥700-1000. Best make a reservation as it fills up quite quickly.

By far the best ramen in Nozawa. They cater to allergies too, just let them know at the time of ordering. Prices are very fair for what you get. 1 dumpling set and ramen will absolutely stuff you unless you're a land whale that inhales humans for dinner. Not being mean to land whale, we all gotta eat man! Restaurant is in the basement of the building, if you're struggling to find it, just ask the locals.

This was an excellent experience! I loved how much cat stuff there was. There were cat magazines and books and stuff, and I was looking at a phrase book with photos of cats, which was helping me with my kanji practice... The atmosphere was just absolutely lovely, and the service was nice too. I had an ontama curry and cafe latte, both of which were brilliant. The curry had a very unique flavour, and a bit of a kick without being spicy. It also came with soup, which was nice too. The coffee has a very soft texture and a taste which was the perfect middle, not too strong, not too weak. Great place, would recommend!

A delightful, heartwarming cafe in Nozawa Onsen serving some very good baked curry rice with cheese & egg. We also enjoyed their affogato. Vibrant ambiance and very courteous service. A pleasant culinary memory to take back with us to Hawaii!

Lovely Cafe. I find espresso based coffees ( latte, flat white etc) very hit and miss in Japan. So I was especially happy when the latte i ordered tasted delicious. The drip coffee, as well as the baked curry were also nice. The apple cheesecake was so-so.

There was much to look at in this small cozy cafe. V cute place decorated with old toys of the owner and pictures of Nozawa back in the days - like a mini museum. Drinks options were good with several adult friendly options e.g. hot choc with alcohol).

A very cosy izakaya with a great selection of drinks and food. Loved the grilled salted wings and pork stew (motsuni). Yakitori was okay. Service was impeccable, extremely impressive considering how busy they were over the long weekend. The waitress was nice and helpful and the owners are very warm and welcoming. Highly recommend to book unless you don’t mind a late dinner (8pm onwards). Will be back!

Authentic pub-style Izakaya. Light pour on the Calpis, but the food and service was great. Of course prices are not as friendly in Nozawa Onsen, but the food is quality. We ordered pretty much one of everything on the menu (table of 7)... Recommended. Usually a booking is required, but we walked in. There is no English outside, which we think gave us a chance to walk in without a booking!

A reservation-only izakaya with a wide variety of food offerings. It's a small establishment dedicated to providing the best possible experience for their customers as places are very limited. Service moves at a steady pace as food is freshly prepared upon ordering. Do order their skewered dishes and fish dishes!

Hospitable proprietress and a good range of reasonably priced izakaya style food. We had ramen, yakitori don, more yakitori, chicken Skin, tsukune, chicken wings and onigiri. Halfway-through, smoke from the grill kind of overcame us but the staff managed to get that under control after a bit. You will come out of there smelling like bbq though ...

Absolutely love the experience here. The lovely lady and her husband cook up every menu item as it’s ordered. Proper traditional Izakaya style. Clams in sake are my personal favourite but we have visited 5 or 6 times over 3 trips and it never disappoints!

The flavour was really nice, we enjoyed everything we ordered. However, we were shocked how tiny the 450 yen worth of kimchi it was. We all loved the taste but it was like one bite. Usually restaurant would give you the free kimchis and it would be bigger than that. All the serving sizes were quite small, that's probably the only complaint we had. It was popular, we got lucky to walk in and instantly got a table.

took 40 minutes for the food to arrive and that is AFTER we asked. we also had to ask multiple times. (we were patient, we waited till the table near us sat down after us got their food first when they order after us to request check up for first time). not even rice and appetisers (pre cooked) arrived. no apologies whatsoever, just says “it’s coming”. by the time our food arrive and we finish cooking it’s already towards the end of our reservation (tot 1.5 hrs long). so yep, spent more than half of the time waiting for food (arrive + cook) when the table near us that arrived later than us gets food around faster than us. imagine you just finished a day long of ski and is tired and you just need to sit there and do nothing for 45 mins staring at the grill when your empty stomach is calling for help. oh also their ventilation doesn’t really work so the whole place is full of smoke. (at least the alcohol arrive very quickly)

The meat was well seasoned, and prices were reasonable. The layout of the restaurant was very simple but functional. Good for big groups gathering. Orders can be made through the qr code and food came quickly. The only thing is be prepared to smell like smoke as there is no exhaust to remove the smoke as you cook.

Simialr to the other comments, heard that its the only Yakiniku in Nozawa. However, It's not good as I imagined and I dont think it deserves a 4.1 rating. Food quality is below average (nothing special). This restaurant has really heavy oil fumes and the inside environment is really normal.

A warm and cosy restaurant offering a good variety of noodle and rice dishes. They specialise in their soba dishes but definitely give their udons and donburis a try too. Prices are reasonable and owners are very pleasant.

Cute restaurant with a mix of Table and Tatami seating. Walked in early (6pm) with no problem but the place was full by the time we left. Big servings and really well priced. The Katsudon and the Soba were delicious! English menus are available as well.

We went here two years ago and couldn't wait to get back. The soba here is something else. Must be the broth. The price is great. I still haven't tried the viper sake or the wasp sake in the jars on the counter. Not a lot of English spoken here and they love it if you can order in Japanese though you will get a great meal either way. Thank you once again for your excellent hospitality.

The pizzas are good but be prepared to smell like oil after leaving the place. My fav pizza is the ramen pizza and I love the crispy squid. It's a must order! Definitely worth trying when you are staying at nozawaonsen!

This is great pizza. Last month we had pizza marumo in Tokyo which was named top 10 in the world. This is the same level. Staff was all really awesome as well. Only wish they were open for lunch too.

Superb pizzas! The owner said they ferment their dough for 3 days, probably why the crust was so delicious. Fantastic creative toppings - the cauliflower, blue cheese, and pine nut pizza was outstanding. The salmon and winter greens salad was also excellent. Wine list is well chosen and good value. Great vibe, great food.

This was our best meal in Nozawa Onsen! They have plenty of vegetarian pizzas on their menu. Option for vegan cheese too. We had the Kinoko and Nasu pizza, both vegetarian pizzas. We really enjoyed the Nasu pizza which had a Japanese twist to it. The spring onions on that pizza 👌🏽. Loved the crust and crust dips! Be sure to come really early (we came at 4:50pm before opening) or make a reservation, to not be disappointed.

Great restaurant in Nozawa! We went here twice during our stay. The pizzas are excellent - we tried quite a few but our favorite was the pepperoni. We did the set meal through our hotel. We loved the limoncello when we arrived! Service was excellent -t he staff were so kind and accommodating. The cocktails were great as well - my favorite was the Panama. Definitely recommend!

We spent a week in Nozawa Onsen and this was our favourite spot for lunch! Great food, good service and awesome views. They have a little drying cabinet for gloves and a place for helmets and jackets. We loved our lunches here

From Hikage gondola, you ride down Paradise (green), stay to the right side, you’ll see a bunch of houses. This place has two floors of seating. The bathroom is located in the basement and there’s one on the 2nd floor. We got their beef udon with salad and beef udon with rice. We got a combo coffee with whipped cream and crepe layered cake which was super good. Great place to rest before hitting the slopes!

Pretty good lunch spot on the mountain, with a great view. The kimchi-don was solid, and the udon was nice too. The coffee is hot and strong. The staff was friendly and accommodating, with fast service. Check this place out.

Best hot chocolate in Nozowa make sure yiu get the whipped cream on top. May have to wait but the food, service and drinks is worth the wait. Fast service too, and same price range as everything else on the mountain. Curry udon and hot chocolate :)

Situated halfway down Paradise, Buna has perfected the combination of good quality food and good views. On a blue sunny day, you can enjoy dining with beautiful scenery. On a windy snowy day, you can appreciate coddling in the heat and enjoying a hot bowl of miso soup. Would recommend getting the Nachos (kids’ favourite) and the Nimono (Japanese soup with stewed vegetables).

Very good food and spot! Only place we found with chairs outside up on the mountain (April). In this weather, some sun lounger chairs would have made us stay the entire day!

Great cafe, great location next to the gondola and beginner slope. Plenty of tables, many by windows. Service staff are quick and lovely. Very reasonable prices. Tea or coffee and slice for 700yen was my favourite. Water for the table brought out without asking.

Location was perfect being ski-in-out location right near chairlifts and near the end of a few runs. We elected half board and the food was delicious. Having a kids play area was a bonus when our kids needed a break or while they waited for the adults to finish up dinner. An on-site onsen and outdoor jacuzzi was amazing after a long day out. Onsite rentals with quality gear was great. Courteous and friendly staff who go out of their way to assist, especially the owner, made the whole experience enjoyable. Will be back again!

One of the best ski hotel that I had ever been. Hotel is simple but clean. Owner and Staffs are Super nice and helpful. The osen is a real natural one and you will definitely enjoy it after the whole day in snow. We booked a western style room with dinner and breakfast. Every meals are so tasty and fresh. I am sure they have the best cook in Japan! I love the hotel so much and I enjoy every meals they made for us.

Cute Japanese restaurant that sells affordable Japanese meals like noodles or curry right after the escalator o-yu road. Most affordable ski rental next to the slopes! They also have lockers and ski lockers down stairs by the rental. They also have some bilingual staff speaking English, Japanese and Spanish.

Awesome oyakudon and katsu curry. Been coming here for over a decade and never fails to impress. Fast service, hearty food, good price not much more to it. Make sure you come around 11:30-45 on a busy day to beat the rush. 👊

The service here is always great even if the restaurant is very busy. We love coming here year after year—always a delicious lunch we can count on. My husband loves getting the chicken and chips, but my favorite is the vegan coconut curry. Delicious! You can also get a side of Nozawana, which you have to try if you’re in the area.

Tasty lunch after a morning of skiing! You order on a ticket machine (which translates to English), which makes things very easy and accessible! We enjoyed the Korean rice bowl and the Japanese curry with cutlet. Both hit the spot! The room had a variety of different size tables to accommodate different party sizes. They also had sizable windows - this was great for us as we got to watch the snow fall!

Vegan options here!!!! The vegan soy mince with rice is delicious! They also have vegan soba and a curry

Great place to have lunch while skiing. They have a gluten free vegan curry for those with special diets! It's like a Thai style coconut curry. This is made-to-order, so they'll give you a number and bring it to you, so be prepared to tell them around where you'll be sitting. For those without allergies, they have Japanese style katsu curry. The staff is really nice and the service is quick. It gets crowded during the lunch rush, so it's best to go off-hours if possible. The menu items are listed in English too. They are also okay with dogs inside.

Nice place just on the bottom of ski lifts. The best for me is they have Vegan curry which taste super delicious, kinda Thai curry. For meat eaters they have a wide range of other meals. Good amount of food for reasonable price, very yummy!!! Staff speaks English, they are very friendly and even alright to slightly change menu for kids. Cakes are looking great too. Arigatou for great service and yummy food!

It was a most friendly place of stay ever. The humble owners and staff work hard and offering great stay to guests. The hotel location is near to ski lifts so that we could have made early start without stress everyday. Great gratitude to team of Pension Schnee, that added so much more to our first nozawa skiing experience!!

A really cosy ski in/ out place with delicious food. Warm and friendly staff especially Mr Lee and an amazing wine collection in the middle of the ski slopes of Japan. We had a wonderful time with our family of 6. Miki was also very responsive to our queries through email.

Best Ski-in and Ski-our Resort in Nozawa. The location is great and the food blew us away. Breakfast and dinner were included in the price which was such a steal considering how delicious the dinners were. The decor was also super adorable and there was plenty of room for our large group to hang out in the restaurant/bar. The hosts were also super gracious and helpful. I would stay here again and again!
