Gyeongpodae Pavilion

Mentioned on

Heritage building
Gyeongpodae Pavilion, located near Gyeongpo Lake and surrounded by a pine forest, is a historical site with cultural significance. Built in the 13th year of King Chungsuk in the Goryeo period, it houses works by renowned figures such as Yulgok Yi and King Sukjong. The pavilion offers a serene and picturesque setting, especially during spring when cherry blossoms bloom.
This is a heritage site with a view of the lake. Just along the path is a memorial to South Koreas soldiers, which is very well maintained and in its own right beautifully put together catching the light very subtley.
Claire T — Google review
Wasn’t expecting much but it was a nice pavilion. As it’s located close to the lake and slightly elevated, it was windy! Plus you can get a nice view of the lake! We had a nice rest here, chilling with the breeze! Btw, you need to remove your shoes to enter the pavilion!
Rennie L — Google review
It was a pleasant stop on the way to the beach. It was super hot and we could get a rest in the pavillion. There was a fresher breeze than near the lake. The view was amazing too.
Andreia C — Google review
White sand beaches, deep blue oceans, and the refreshing sound of waves—we need them for the perfect beach vacation.
Mijung K — Google review
Not far from the beach so stop by if you're already there! Beautiful view of the lake and a great spot to take photos.
Adrian S — Google review
Peaceful place. Quiet, clean, free entrance. The house has more than 1000 years old. 👌
FERNANDO I — Google review
It’s v popular tourists especially for Koreans. I don’t know how the ugly giant hotel has opened but shockingly disturbing. Other than that, it seems ok to hang out here.
DY K — Google review
Interesting pavilion with raised platforms in the corners. Also has a beautiful view of the lake.

Ojukheon

Specialty Museums
Ojukheon, located in Gangneung, is a historic site that holds great significance as the birthplace of the renowned Confucian scholar Yi Yulgok and his mother, Shin Saimdang. This complex features Munseongsa Temple, an ancestral shrine of Yulgok, Mongryongsil Chamber where he was born, Eoje Pavilion where his relics are kept, Yulgok Memorial Hall, and an exhibition hall of family relics.
Was it in high school or college? I can't quite recall, but I remember the shock I felt upon learning that the "O" in Ojukheon comes from the Chinese character for crow (烏), symbolizing black. Black bamboo—could such a thing even exist? How could bamboo, which I had always associated with the vibrant green, whispering sound of wind brushing through its leaves, be black? That revelation completely reshaped my understanding of the place. From that moment, Ojukheon became a sort of pilgrimage site for me, a place to see this mysterious black bamboo. Now, living in another country and visiting Korea briefly, I find myself returning to Ojukheon with a different sense of appreciation. The historical figures who once lived here—Yulgok Yi I and Shin Saimdang—have long since become static figures in textbooks, their stories no longer growing or evolving. My real curiosity now lies with the black bamboo. How much stronger and more dynamic have they grown since my last visit? And what about the grand old pine trees surrounding the grounds—how much thicker and denser have they become over the years? I walked through Ojukheon with a sense of gratitude, not just for the history the place holds, but for the natural beauty that has continued to flourish here. The bamboo, the pines, and the serene landscape—they all seemed to reflect the quiet strength and resilience of the past while remaining vibrant and alive in the present.
Peter S — Google review
I visited Ojukheon , and it was a really cool experience. It’s a famous historical place, and I liked walking around the old buildings and learning a bit about the history. What stood out the most were the cherry blossom and magnolia trees they were in full bloom and looked amazing. The pink and white flowers made the whole place feel peaceful and beautiful. Spring is definitely the best time to go.

A Historic Gem Steeped in the Legacy of Shin Saimdang and Her Son Yulgok Yi I – Ojukheon, Gangneung Ojukheon is one of Korea’s most treasured historical sites, known as the birthplace of Shin Saimdang—often called the “Mother of Joseon”—and her son, the renowned Confucian scholar Yulgok Yi I. The name “Ojukheon” comes from the black bamboo that grows in the courtyard, adding a poetic charm to this beautifully preserved wooden structure from the mid-Joseon Dynasty. This site offers a rich cultural experience, with well-curated exhibition halls including the Yulgok Memorial Hall, Munseongsa Shrine, and a museum showcasing artifacts and artworks. The walking paths and gardens are serene and beautifully maintained, making it a great destination for families and history lovers alike. I visited during the 2022 WalkintoKorea Fam Tour and was truly moved by Shin Saimdang’s Chochungdo (insect and plant paintings)—seeing them in person was breathtaking. Visitors can also enjoy hanbok experiences and take photos at various scenic spots throughout the grounds. Proudly selected with WalkintoKorea as one of the “Top Cultural Heritage Sites to Visit.”
Daehoon K — Google review
There were many museums and many things to see. Also it was well preserved as it used to be. Me and my son had very good time as Simsaimdang and her son Yiyi.
Jae M — Google review
Ojukheon is a deeply historical site in Gangneung. It is the home of Shim Saimdang, artist, and her son Yi I, a famous Confucian scholar. She is on the 50k won note and he is on the 5k note. The location houses a sprawling garden and several buildings which contain museum exhibits relevant to the area and the former inhabitants. The gardens are well kept and are seeded with native korean plants. You can spend a few nice hours here wandering around and taking photos. There's a money museum as well that has historical Korean notes including from before the Japanese occupation. It was really peaceful and beautiful. If you visit gangneung you should stay closer to the city centre and visit ojukheon. There is a small discount if you go to this location during culture day (final Wednesday of the month).
Celine T — Google review
A peaceful and cultural stop in Gangneung 🏯🍂 Ojukheon is the birthplace of Shin Saimdang and Yulgok Yi I, who appear on the ₩5,000 bill. The traditional hanok buildings and quiet pine tree trail were perfect for a winter walk. Inside, you can see a small currency museum, and there’s also a hanbok experience area for photos. Entry was just 3,000 KRW for adults. Definitely worth a visit if you love Korean history and architecture! 💡 Want to see more photos and a full review? Check out my Instagram: [@blogger_leo]

Gives an insight into this family and its routes, making It quite real. Koreans worship the mother and son it would seem. Worth and hour or two out of your day as this quality of historic building is rare in South Korea would seem
Claire T — Google review
Nestled in the serene landscapes of Gangneung, Ojukheon is a timeless gem that effortlessly transports visitors back in time. Stepping onto its grounds feels like entering a portal to Korea's rich cultural heritage. As a history enthusiast, I was captivated by the exquisite architecture, meticulously preserved artifacts, and the profound stories echoing through its halls. The traditional hanok-style architecture of Ojukheon exudes an aura of elegance and simplicity, reflecting the refined taste of the Joseon Dynasty. Walking through its corridors, I couldn't help but marvel at the craftsmanship of the wooden structures and the intricate details adorning every corner. The highlight of my visit was exploring the birthplace of the renowned scholar, Shin Saimdang, and her son, Yi I. It was a humbling experience to stand in the very rooms where these influential figures once lived and to gain insight into their lives through the carefully curated exhibits. The surrounding gardens, lush with bamboo groves and tranquil ponds, provide the perfect backdrop for contemplation and relaxation. I found myself lost in the tranquility of nature, soaking in the essence of traditional Korean aesthetics. Whether you're a history buff, an art enthusiast, or simply seeking a moment of serenity away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, Ojukheon is a must-visit destination. It's a timeless masterpiece that showcases the beauty of Korea's past and leaves a lasting impression on all who have the privilege of exploring its wonders.

Nestled in the picturesque Gangwon-do Province, Seongyojang House is a stunning example of 18th-century architecture that once belonged to an upper-class family during the Joseon Dynasty. This beautifully preserved traditional Korean house now serves as a museum, offering visitors a glimpse into the elegant lifestyle of Korea's aristocracy.
If you can afford it with time and money, they also have accommodations available. The place is great representation of how Joseon upper class used to leave. For a privately owned property, it is extremely well maintained.

Gyeongpo Lake, also known as Gunjaho Lake, is a picturesque haven located 6 kilometers northeast of Gangneung. Originally spanning 12 kilometers, the lake has since reduced to 4 kilometers due to sediment buildup. It is renowned for being a stopover for migratory birds and offers stunning sunset views. Gyeongpo Beach, with its white sands and pine tree backdrop facing the Pacific Ocean, is considered one of Korea's finest beaches.
A place where you can exercise or just enjoy the beautiful scenery. Located accross the Gyeongpp Beach. You can visit this place for free

It is huge park...we only had short time to walk around the park...it would be wonderful when the weather is lot warmer. Would definitely come back again.
Danny K — Google review
Took about 1.5 hours to walk the whole thing. Really nice lake. Good spots to view herons. Flat, so easy to walk. There’s also places nearby to rent bicycles.
Sean Q — Google review
A beautiful lake that is so close to a sea beach yet holds its own beauty. There’s a walkway all around this lake that can cover on foot if you like but it would easily take you more than an hour to do that. We did it the easier way by hiring these bikes that can accommodate 4 or more people depending on the size of your group. Two ppl can pedal and control the direction at the same time. And it’s the fastest way to go around the lake without getting exhausted. You have an option to rent the bikes for 1hr or more. You can also stop at various locations around the lake and explore the lanes etc. We visited during Cherry blossom festival and it was gorgeous as ever. The fair was also on the lakeside
Priyanka R — Google review
The lake smells like the ocean. Very salty. It was cool and windy when I visited in the evening in summer. The paths are very flat and easy to walk. I walked about half the lake to a bike shop and rented a single person bike from Green Bike for 5000 won, for one hour. I didn't realise that when you put the kickstand down you need to clamp it together with your hand to lift it up otherwise it won't move so fyi on that. There are statues around the lake perimeter and some weird museums about film history and...Thomas Edison. It's very peaceful and a great cycling spot. Beautiful photo ops.
Celine T — Google review
Public lake where you can walk or rent bike or 4- wheels family/couple bike ride Nice view especially in the evening

Attending the 2018 Winter Olympics at Gangneung Olympic Park was an absolute thrill! This sprawling complex served as the epicenter of the Games, and it did not disappoint. From the moment we stepped foot inside, we were swept away by the electric atmosphere and the sheer magnitude of the event. The park itself is beautifully designed, with modern architecture seamlessly blending into the surrounding natural landscape. Navigating through the various venues was a breeze, thanks to clear signage and helpful staff members who were always on hand to assist. Whether it was the adrenaline-fueled ice hockey matches or the graceful figure skating performances, every moment was filled with excitement and awe. The venues were equipped with top-notch facilities, ensuring that spectators had a comfortable and enjoyable experience throughout. Beyond the sporting events, Gangneung Olympic Park offered plenty of entertainment options for visitors of all ages. From interactive exhibits showcasing the history of the Olympics to cultural performances highlighting Korean heritage, there was never a dull moment. We especially enjoyed exploring the Olympic Plaza, where we could mingle with athletes and fellow fans from around the world. Of course, no visit to Gangneung Olympic Park would be complete without sampling the delicious food offerings. From traditional Korean street food to international cuisines, there was something to satisfy every craving. We particularly loved trying local specialties like bibimbap and hotteok, which provided the perfect fuel for a day of Olympic excitement. Overall, our experience at Gangneung Olympic Park exceeded all expectations. Museums
Chamsori Gramophone Museum and Edison Science Museum is a must-visit for museum enthusiasts. It features an extensive collection of vintage gramophones, Edison-related exhibits, and artifacts. The museum offers a unique experience with its focus on sound and inventions by Thomas Edison. Located in Songjeong-dong, Gangneung City, the museum was established over 30 years ago by curator Sun Chengmu.
10 out of 10. If you like off-beat museums and a lot of artifacts this museum is the place. For the modest price of about $10 USD you can explore two expansive museums. There is the Edison Gramophone museum and the Movie/cinema museum. They were curated by one man who simply loves Edison and movies. It’s amazing. Definitely worth a side-trip. You can make it through both museums in about 45 minutes, but to fully experience plan about 2 hours. Some staff speak English, but most do not. So either speak a little Korean or have good translation apps. The one downside is that photos aren’t allowed in the museums except in specific locations.

Verry nice museum. The history of the evolution of modern technology is so interesting to see. Also the film museum next door is a part of it . It brings old memories alive. It's definitely a visit worth. Not to mention that there are even Dutch articles 😉

Edison Science Museum + Charmsori Music Museum + Gangneung Film Museum First stop on the tour was the Edison Science Museum, where I delved into the world of scientific discovery and innovation. The museum's interactive exhibits and educational displays brought to life the incredible inventions and contributions of Thomas Edison, offering a glimpse into the marvels of electricity, telecommunication, and technology. Next, I stepped into the Charmsori Music Museum, a hidden gem celebrating the artistry and cultural heritage of traditional Korean musical instruments. The knowledgeable guides provided insightful demonstrations, allowing me to appreciate the intricate craftsmanship and the soul-stirring melodies produced by these instruments. Concluding the tour was the Gangneung Film Museum, a treasure trove of cinematic history and creativity. The museum's dedication to preserving and promoting the film industry was evident throughout.

I was pleasantly suprised with my visit to this set of museums. The collection of grammaphones, edison inventions and film material is very large and interesting to see. The staff is very friendly and most of them speak english. One staff member even demonstrated a grammaphone, which was very cool. The price is 15000w for 3 musea and it is definetely worth it. Would recommend

Good for experience if u have not tasted ox head before haha.

Ojukheon is a truly historical and amazing place to visit in Gangneung. If you visit on the final Wednesday of the month, there is a discount for Culture Day. The location has a sprawling and well-maintained garden and a lot of native plants. There are a few buildings - exhibitions about the people who lived there, as well as a few photo ops and a money museum - which is there because Shim Saimdang and her son, Yi I, are both on modern Korean currency (5000 and 50,000 won notes). I had a great time here, it's very beautiful and the local shop has a lot of great souvenirs!

The beach is known for being incredibly clean with staff dedicated to keeping it free of litter. The water is crystal clear and shimmering, making it an ideal spot for swimming. During off-seasons, the place becomes less crowded but still offers a friendly entertainment strip serving fresh seafood.
Super lovely beach that is well lit even through the night. The restaurants lined up on the street along the beach serve until wee hours of the morning. We visited Gangnueng in April first week and it was still cold but not freezing. We could take walks on the beach without feeling the chill . The beach has nice photo locations and has a wooden plank walkway that is well lit for late evening strolls too. The vibe of this beach is awesome Stay at the Skybay hotel next to the beach and you can get great views

a large variety of food selections, some seeing longer snaking queues than others! we tried from 3 different stalls and the food were not bad. but 5 stars for the vibes and the overall market streets! the culture and environment there was nice to walk around and bask in, very fresh experience for someone touring gangneung area :)

Hard to find parking around the area, parts of the market sells fresh vegetables, dried fish and side dishes. Part of it sells street food and snacks with super long queue. Many fried food- fried chicken, tempura style fried prawns and squid, paejeon, croquette, etc. Had the ox head soup with rice, clear taste soup with little meat. Good for experience if u have not tasted ox head before haha.

Loved this local market experience in winter! 🐟🔥 We picked up fresh sashimi and crispy Korean fried chicken for dinner at our stay, and it was such a treat. There are also tons of tasty street snacks—potato bread, sweet rice pancakes, and even handmade tofu dishes. So much fun exploring the stalls and chatting with friendly vendors. Tip: Go hungry—you’ll want to try everything! 💡 Want to see more photos and a full review? Check out my Instagram: [@blogger_leo]

A clean, spacious market with plenty of stalls with good food, drinks, fresh produce, and clothes. It may be due to size of the building, but I wish there was more seating or areas for eating. Overall, friendly staff around the market making for a good time.

Budnamu Brewery

Beer store
Budnamu Brewery is a popular American brewpub located on Korea's east coast. The industrial-style decor, complete with fermentation tanks and a southern-style smoker outside, creates a unique atmosphere. The outdoor patio adorned with string lights adds to the charm. Visitors praise the excellent service and mention that the staff even provided chili flakes and olive oil for their pizza, which was a pleasant surprise.
The friendly staff helped us as we entered the rustic eatery brewery place. They helped us in English which was a boon. For first timers, the beer sampler is a great introduction to their craft beers. Their flavours were brought out by the superb thin crust pizza, beer battered fish and to finish off a subtle savoury sweet brie cheese and 3 nuts.
Jamie C — Google review
Fantastic meal. Really delicious craft beer made straight there, and a unique cola they also made themselves which was delicious. Service was super friendly and they were kind to foreigners. Had the ribs which were simply divine, the meat came right off the bone. Definitely worth the visit. One note to the owner= there is a white truck that makes the entrance to the brewery a bit hard to find.

Service was fantastic, wait staff spoke English clearly and were very friendly. Food was AMAZING! We really liked all of the beers in the sampler and bought some to go too. Absolutely worth a drive from Seoul.

Pretty cool American brewpub on Korea’s east coast. Came here to find it packed on Easter Monday evening. The place is decorated industrial style with fermentation tanks and southern style smoker outside with an outdoor patio covered in string lights. We ordered the mushroom pizza, which was good, and the sausage, which was not as good. Service was excellent as they kept our table cleared and brews coming. The server even brought us chilli flakes and olive oil for our pizza which I have not yet seen in Korea. They had 6 regular beers and 2 seasonals on tap. Go for the beer flight and work your way through the lineup from there. Would heartily recommend for people in the area for the ambiance alone.
Alexander T — Google review
Good local beers, plenty of choice and well described. Really accessible even for foreigners since everything is in English too. Best burger in Korea so far!
Ulrich S — Google review
Some of the best beer in the world. The double IPA is worth the trip alone. If that was it, I'd still love this place, but they also have amazing food. The bbq was cooked perfectly, while the pizza was the best I've had in a while. Then the vibe... the building is a converted factory with all exposed wood, there's an indoor tropical garden, and a huge patio out back. Can't beat this place.
Joe P — Google review
“There is some really good brew at Budnamu ...” We stopped by this place to give it a try and overall the food was good, but the beer, Sungeut Citra Sour, we had was one of the best I have had in a long time. I would go back just for the beer. The Pros: We had the Kimchii pizza, the steak sandwich and the lasagna Mac and cheese. All items that we had were tasty. The steak sandwich was the best of the three items we selected and had some Asian flare as the sandwich had daikon radish as a topping. The fries that it was served with were very good. I did not feel that the kimchi mixed well with the other flavors of the pizza, but I was in the minority at our table. However, the pizza tasted good the next morning when it was cold. The Mac and cheese lasagna was tasty. The Cons: The seating arrangements were not optimal as the tables were small. The day we were there, there was a lot of flies in the restaurant as they had the doors open to the outdoor seating area. Overall, the beer was great, the staff was helpful and attentive, the food was good. Not a bad place to stop by and spend some time sipping and “supping”.

If you are curious about the original taste of Gamja Ongsimi in Gangneung, this restaurant is the place for you. A house with over 40 years of history. The light anchovy broth is neatly brewed without any odor and has a savory taste, and the sesame seeds add a nutty flavor. Ongsimi thinks that this house is a true original type of potato Ongsim. Soft and chewy. The kalguksu noodles are served slightly overcooked, but the degree of doneness is high so they are quite soft. It is non-spicy and non-irritating, so everyone from children to adults can enjoy it. Seokbakji and cabbage kimchi are provided. The cabbage kimchi is slightly ripened from the outer pancake, and although the stone pakji has a sweet taste, it has a refreshing taste, so it is suitable to eat with Ongsimi or Ongsimi kalguksu. (Translated by Google) Ah...what a waste of money. First of all, it's completely tasteless. It's too bland to be considered protein-rich, and the ongsimi is hard rather than chewy. As other reviews have mentioned, sigh~~sanitation... what a mess. After cleaning up another table, I stuffed the tissue deep into the trash can, then, with the same hand, I filled the water container with water, leaving the lid open, and carried it to another table. There was no spoon holder on the table, so spoons were served on the food tray, and I grabbed a handful of scattered spoons with that same hand and dropped them on our table. Ugh... I clutched the tissue I used to wipe the table and grabbed the water container, and the tissue touched the spout. I was debating whether I should really eat this. But since it's a restaurant that's been filmed countless times by broadcasting stations, I figured I'd be fooled, and ate it, but... The taste was just as bad as the hygiene. Damn... It's my first meal on my first day of vacation... I'm writing this, the longest review of my life, in the hopes that others won't have to go through what I did... Hamburger restaurant
Cafe Paul & Mary is a charming spot overlooking Gyungpo Beach in Gangneung, offering a variety of tasty burgers such as Bacon Mozzarella, Hawaiian, and Chili Mozzarella. The prices are reasonable, around 10,000 won for a full meal. While the exterior may not be impressive, the interior has unique details. Some visitors found the burgers delicious with generous toppings but noted that they were messy to eat and quite large. The service is friendly and efficient.
Delicious meal! Strongly recommend juices as well
Lucia C — Google review
The place is very nice and the food looks great. The burger looks huge when you get it, but not much meat so the ratio seems off when you eat it (the meat-vegetable-bun ratio seems off). I like the sauce, but a little too much. Even though the meat itself is hot, it seems cold because of all the cold vegetables. The fries, however, are very good. They come out hot and fresh.

The food was just okay. The view from the restaurant was really great. I didn't have a choice in choosing restaurants because of my pets, so I opted for this place since it's pet-friendly. However, you can find better places in Seoul if you're looking for 매밀 Noodle.
YJ — Google review
After seeing the pictures of the burgers full with cheeseI wanted to try it. The burger was delicious. For me it was the perfect ratio of meat and vegetables. The bun was okay. The only problem was that it was super hard to eat without making a mess. The restaurants doesn't look like much from outside and the inside is not special excision except for some unique details. Still worth a visit for a nice burger
Natalie ( — Google review
Topping, colors and shapes are great. But the meat patty itself is not good enough. The prices are relatively lower than the other restaurants’ near the place.
이호준 — Google review
The price is not bad and the service is nice. The burger I had was tasty but I think it would have been better with less sauce (which is kind of a shame because the patty itself was fabulous). Also, these burgers are so large that you cannot eat them without cutting them up first. Eat-in and takeout are both available and the beachfront location makes this a nice spot to visit.

Recommend getting the "초당 명품밥상" where you can taste everything they offer at the restaurant. Tofu was good, and "두부삼합" was interesting. Also, the soup wasn't too spicy. There is an option to get the soup without the spice, just mention it when ordering.

I tried various drip coffees at the cafe and they were all high quality. The venue is a very modern industrial style building. There is a shop which sells their coffee and other merchandise. There is also a restaurant which I didn’t visit but it looks good! Guided tours of the factory happen every hour but it gets busy so be prepared to wait a bit.

The taste of each coffee is very different. The Ethiopian was delicious, but their own branding was ordinary. The atmosphere of the cafe is good, but there are a lot of people, so it's noisy.

We had brunch there... Sorta - bread and coffee (winter soltice blend).. Not too bad. Love the place as we sipped our coffees. Perhaps its winter, the roastery/museum portion of the place was not opened. Low in staff too so no one approached us on it either. The cafe, gift shop and restuarant was open. Quite a big place.. With a compound for hens and geese to walk around. The only down side was its location. My kakao T couldnt work, perhaps cuz im a foreigner with a foreign mobile no. (not sure).. We could only wait and hop onto any random cab that comes all the way in. The bus... Technically non-existent. Lol.

too many tourists but still worth it. i think the traffic was bigger due to holidays but it feels like the mecca of korean coffee shops...hahaha. definitely a worthwhile visit for first timers and if u are in town(gangneung).
Yj K — Google review
I'll start this out by saying the coffee itself was good, but the experience completely detracted from that. I drove 40 minutes to come to the coffee museum, and they were not at all foreigner friendly. We paid 12,000 each for our ticket to do the tour, and we stood to the side so my boyfriend could translate what the tour guide was saying to me. The tour guide got very upset with him and told him to stop speaking, even though he explained he was simply translating his words to me so I could understand. We were not bring loud or disruptive at all, I was simply very interested and excited to view the museum and after that the tour guide made us very uncomfortable for the rest of it. Not only that, but the tour was very lacking of any real purpose. Considering it was part of a coffee factory I had assumed there would be some kind of interactive aspect to it to make up for the ticket being so expensive, but there was nothing except looking through windows. At one point he let us smell the green beans, and I thought he would continue down and let us smell the beans in a roasting progression, he did not. They have an opportunity to offer a really interesting experience and instead I felt very uncomfortable and un welcomed. I did not ask for any special treatment from them, simply to experience the tour with my boyfriend. I feel like if they're trying to be open to foreign visitors they need to train their staff better.
Lauren T — Google review
We tried both, restaurant and coffee shop. The food in the restaurant was good, not that pricy if you think in the beautiful place and great atmosphere. There is not many options in the menu, but all we tried was good. Service was also fine. The coffee shop was totally full. We had to wait a lot just to order, and same to receive our coffee. At least the quality of the coffee was good so it worth it. Just for the waiting I'm giving 4 of 5 stars.

The wait here is long, come early to get the queue number. They are known for their Jamsoon which is Jampong Soontofu, what a great combination. The spicy seafood broth and the soft and creamy tofu are perfect pairing. It's definitely worth the long wait.

Their specialty is the 짬뽕순두부 - combination of 짬뽕 soup with soft tofu. What a brilliant idea! This area (초당동) is originally famous for their soft tofu, but it wasn't too popular because, in the end, it's just a soft tofu. However, such invention helped gather people from all over the place. We went there on a Friday morning at 1130am, and we had to wait for about 35 minutes. Super delicious (and somewhat spicy!) at a very reasonable price. The parking is limited so try to go by taxi or walk if you can :) I would definitely recommend this place! would love to go again.

Tuul_ A — Google review
Waited over an hour telling myself "This better be worth it" and worrying it wouldn't be because everyone else with me was thinking the same thing. It was worth it. Order the 초두부(초당 순두부 백반) [Plain soft tofu meal] & the 원조짬순 [spicy seafood soft tofu] together. You get more side dishes this way. The 초두부(초당 순두부) [Plain soft tofu] was good but it was the broth of the 원조짬순 [spicy seafood soft tofu] that makes an impact. The 원조짬순 [spicy seafood soft tofu] was spicy without being ridiculous and had a slight flamed taste. For those with a weak stomach for spicey food, order both and add the plain soft tofu to the spicy seafood soft tofu. Another big plus were the side dishes that came with the 초두부(초당 순두부 백반) [Plain soft tofu meal]. There weren't many, but they were good. The mung bean paste soup and the ground bean gruel were good enough to be sold on their own. • 원조짬순 [spicy seafood soft tofu]: Really good • 초두부(초당 순두부 백반) [plain soft tofu]: good [but even more worthwhile for the extra side dishes]
