Marugame Castle, also known as Marugame-jo, is a 16th-century hilltop fortress located on Mt. Kameyama in Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture. It is renowned for its well-preserved original wooden donjon and impressive stone walls, with the inner moat featuring a towering wall that stands over 60 meters tall – the tallest of its kind in Japan.
Super cool place. You can walk around the grounds and just enjoy nature. A lot of people outside just enjoying the nature. The view from the top is gorgeous, especially during the sunset. The best time is visit is definitely during the sunset except the castle won't be open sadly. So you kinda have to pick and choose but that's okay.

The castle is small but the location is good in the middle of the city. The view is beautiful when you are at the top, you can also see the long bridge going to Okayama. It's nice to relax at the top, just accompany it with a cold beer, that's ok.
Rimon G — Google review
The park itself is free, including the steep walkway up to the castle (somehow it makes me miss staircases). You only pay to go into the castle, which is also where all the stamps are. The castle itself is small, but the park, the surrounding walls and the gates make for a great experience. Be mindful of the closing time though, as it is fairly early. There's a free parking lot where the museum is (but it was closed today, sadly). Although the parking lot was almost full when I arrived, there was no sign of any tour buses. So I still got an overall quiet experience, which was much appreciated. Don't forget to visit the little gift shop at the bottom of the uphill walkway, as they have a cute little fan shop, as well as some Yadon/Slowpoke merch (mascot of the prefecture).

Visiting Marugame Castle is truly a remarkable experience! Steeped in history, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the past that's unlike any other. I can’t wait to share more about the captivating stories and breathtaking views that make this place so special!

This is a small castle, open from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Even after hours, you can still enter the park (though not the castle tower) to enjoy amazing sunset views
Ka C — Google review
The walkway is absolutely delightful! The walk-up is a little tiring, but the view is perfect! If you walk up just before sunset, you'll have the perfect picture of marugame City!

Castle on a mountain! There is a steep climb up, but the view is amazing! Small tower on top, but it was closed when I arrived (Monday).

One of the 12 original remaining castles in Japan. The castle itself is very small with steep stairs to get up and it's a steep hike to get up to the castle itself, but the view of Marugame and the stone walls are impressive.

Aquarium
Nestled in Kagawa Prefecture, the Shikoku Aquarium is a modern marvel that beautifully showcases the aquatic life of the region. With its themed tanks representing both the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean, visitors can immerse themselves in the unique underwater ecosystems of Shikoku. The aquarium not only highlights diverse marine creatures but also delves into local culture and environmental aspects tied to these waters.
It's a nice experience for us to come to this aquarium. They provide many special performances, like dolphins performance. The sea creatures can be seen were varies. The place also not so crowded even on the weekend so that we can enjoy to see every fish and creatures there.

It is a small aquarium but mighty. Their interior design is impressive! A famous picture spot, indoor and outdoor engagements and super cute hand drawing descriptions. I like their cute merchandises sell in the shop. A highlight activity is you can open shell and get your own pearl with add-on to jewelry or design.

We love aquariums, so we had to visit this place since it’s said to be the largest aquarium in the area. Most people recommend spending about 2 hours here, which feels just right. We spent 3 hours here. What stood out the most to us was the dolphin show—it was the most gentle performance we’ve ever seen. You’ll understand what I mean when you see it for yourself! By the way, this aquarium consists the most beautiful animal drawing ever!!! my video is longer than 30 seconds which means there are more drawings in the aquarium. You should come and see them yourself!
Tik C — Google review
It’s not a really big aquarium, but it is famous for the big round aquarium window. A lot of people take photos there. They also have dolphin shows which is quite short, I think it’s around 10-15 mins.
Shelley L — Google review
The largest aquarium in Shikoku Many sea animals ! Especially u can find otter here. U can buy the ticket easily at the entrance, no need to book online. TBH, the ticket price is a bit expensive. Better check the show schedule before u plan your visit. Since it is not possible to stay in the aquarium whole day to watch all the show. Re-entry is allowed, remember to stamp the stamp provided right next to the exit gate if u would like to go back. Many souvenirs in the shop, u can buy different types of special edition souvenirs there.
Lydia C — Google review
Nice small aquarium to spend a few hours with your family . There is a scheduled dolphin show , the pool is small but you can get very upfront close to the dolphins . We really enjoyed ourself
Ken F — Google review
Not massive, can finish viewing a little bit over hour or so. But very indulgent experience.

As an Aussie we went there with our kids because they love fish ! However seeing those poor dolphins in their tiny enclosure, doing their performances was a little upsetting. $90AUD for two adults and two kids.

Izakaya restaurant
During my recent travels, I stumbled upon Umakabo Sakaide, a delightful izakaya conveniently located near my hotel at Sakaide Kita Inter. This charming eatery quickly became a highlight of my trip! The menu is straightforward and features an array of local specialties, including Kagawa's famous chicken dishes and fresh seafood. I particularly enjoyed the sashimi platter served on ice and the crispy fried items that were hot and flavorful.

(Translated by Google) I was staying at a nearby Route Inn, so my family and I visited for dinner. Good thing I called in advance! The customers who came one after another went home with the seats full. I came into this restaurant by chance, but it turned out to be a popular restaurant! The fish was fresh and the fried food was served hot and delicious. It seems to take some time to be delivered, so it may not be suitable for those who are in a hurry. What surprised me was that even though the four of us drank alcohol and had our fills, it only cost us just over 10,000 yen! It's cheap, isn't it? (Translated by Google) This restaurant has everything from Kagawa's typical dishes to ramen. I visited after 1830 without a reservation on a weekday, and was told that the service would be delayed due to the customers who had reservations at 7pm, but there was no problem. I ordered bone-in chicken, grilled skewers, and grilled offal, but all of them were too salty and I quickly gave up. I think it's a beer hall business that has a strong salty taste, but in the winter it has the opposite effect and I end up buying palate cleansers at convenience stores. It's a shame because the taste isn't bad. (Translated by Google) When I was traveling, I stayed at Route Inn and visited the store with my child because it was a nearby location. Overall it's salty. I chose this restaurant because I wanted to eat chicken with bones, and it also had something that my kids could eat. Adults ordered bone-in chicken and carpaccio, and children ordered pizza and fried rice. When the fried rice was brought to us, we were told that it was made with less salt so that children could eat it, which was a very kind response. It was still salty though... Since it was early, the drinks came right after ordering. Just a bone-in bird. It's quite salty. It was so salty that I couldn't eat it all. I was very disappointed even though I came here for the chicken with bones. The carpaccio was delicious, but I thought it was a little expensive for the amount. A complaining customer came next to me and said, ``We apologize for the inconvenience,'' and asked for a free item. I had a very good impression of customer service when I went there. I was able to order on a tablet, so I was able to take my time and think about it while ordering. Kodawari Menya is a must-visit udon restaurant that offers an incredible dining experience, perfect for both seasoned foodies and casual diners alike. On my recent "udon hopping" adventure, I found myself at this gem where the Kake Udon was a delightful treat. From the entrance, go to the right side and take the tray. Water and tea are also self-serve. There was a line and we stood in a small space. There was oden by the time I ordered the udon. Unfortunately, I passed this time. The price is not high. I ordered cold bukkake udon. You can prepare various types of tempura by yourself. Finally, there's accounting. There were toppings on another table. I sat at the counter and had cold bukkake udon and chikuwa tempura. You can add as many toppings as you like and change the flavor to your liking. The noodles are chewy, but the hardness is easy to eat and delicious. I also liked the taste of the soup. Unfortunately, the inside of the restaurant is small, so the atmosphere isn't very relaxing, and the line to order is cramped, making the people eating at the table next to you uncomfortable. I think if the table had a blindfold or a screen, you could eat without looking at each other. Thank you for the delicious udon noodles. Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Kojima Jeans Street, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Shiromine Temple. All together, your day would be filled with about 9 hours of non-stop fun.

Kojima Jeans Street, located in Okayama, Japan, is a renowned destination for denim enthusiasts and fashion lovers. The street is home to some of the country's top denim brands and manufacturers such as Betty Smith and Japan Blue Jeans. With a history dating back to the 1500s, the area was originally known as Ginza Street before transforming into a hub for Japanese-style stores and modern boutiques.
We thought our shopping time in Japan was over but we were so wrong. It's kinda unassuming in that it's a few small laneways that cris-cross a tiny area in Kojima, but the quality and standard is next level. The denim is varied and all made in Japan, with many stores making everything in Kojima itself up near the train station. Definitely check it out, even if you're not a full on denim fan.

Extremely low key and calm spot but amazing nonetheless. We walked around in all the jeans spots for a couple hours and weren’t bored for a second. The history of all the stores is amazing and the quality of the jeans are incomparable. Beware that the price of the jeans are above average (depending on where you live) the cheapest pair we found was about 18,000 yen and the most expensive was 60,000 yen but if you want you can spend a lot more on a pair if you order and want them fitted.

A place for denim pilgrims to pay respect to numerous makers such as Big John on one end to Japan Blue Jeans on the other. Best go on days when business is open and enjoy a leisurely walk to peruse the many design offerings. There is likely something for every denim lover.
Joseph H — Google review
Five stars if you are a lover of denim but otherwise Kojima itself is not an attractive town and there is little else to see. Jeans Street is in fact spread over two streets, a map is available at the station, and has around thirty shops selling denim. Most are small boutiques and, in terms of style, some sell a broad range including Big John; some are aimed at a more older and conservative demographic, and a few are fashion-forward such as Japan Blue Jean, and Momotaro. None are street wise, and ultra-hip, and there are no stores selling pre-worn clothing. Nor is this a place for cheap prices. It's not an outlet street.
GMT — Google review
For jeans lovers definitely worth a trip. Apart from the jeans shops, nothing much to see in Kojima. Don't go there on a Monday, a lot of stores are closed, best time to go is the weekend, so I heard. Staff is very friendly in all the shops, most of them don't speak much English though. Not in all but in most shops, they will give you a tax free.
Jimmy T — Google review
If you're looking to buy or have a pair of jeans made, this is the place for you. If not and you have no other reason for visiting Kojima, then I wouldn't make the trip. That said, it is a nice area to stroll around with lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from and it's only a 15 minute walk from the train station. If you're driving, then park for free in the Happy Town mall and walk five minutes. Kojima can be a short stop en route from Kurashiki to Washuzan.

Sculpture
Red Pumpkin is a striking contemporary art installation by Yayoi Kusama, located near the main port of Naoshima. Similar to the iconic Yellow Pumpkin on the island, this massive spotty sculpture allows visitors to walk inside and even poke their heads out of its polka-dot holes. At night, it illuminates beautifully.
A beautiful and distinctive sculpture. When I was looking at what people were doing around the statue, I thought to myself that it was actually a playground for adults. It's nice that art can bring out the playfulness in people.

Seeing this in person was surreal. It was beautiful and with backdrop of the sea it was so lovely. Love how people can just freely take a picture with it.

Always so much joy and fun to see the wonderful Yayoi Kusama pieces ❤️🖤💛🖤🧚 See the pumpkin when it gets dark, its a hell of a pumpkin 🎃 Visit the yellow pumpkin on the other side of Naoshima, enjoy the beautiful beach there. The local bus will take your from one pumpkin to another:D

Both Yayoi Kusama and ginger ale are very special to me and so it was a pleasure to enjoy my favourite beverage in front of my favourite artist. I haven’t seen the pumpkins in person before and so it was wonderful to see while drinking simulated gourd in the form of the melon flavoured ginger ale. Spectacular experience

Travelled from Okayama Station. takes about 1.5hr in total. If you have a tight schedule like me cos I reserved tickets at Chichu Museum, suggest you keep to the right of the ferry at disembarkation so you can make it to the town bus stop quickly especially if it's a crowded day. The bus is small and I had to take the 2nd bus as it was crowded. The red pumpkin is at the ferry terminal whilst the yellow pumpkin is at the last stop on the town bus - Tsutsuji-so.
AH Y — Google review
Upon arrival on the island, it's the first artwork you'll spot! Often, it has a crowd trying to take photos with it. If you're patient, let those crowd finish first while you look at other things. I promise by then you can almost have the whole pumpkin to yourself!
Wong F — Google review
Kind of like the “home base” piece of art on the island, being by the boat pier and all. Still, very iconic and a must visit, especially as it’s the easiest to get to. Be sure to catch this place at sunset, it’s beautiful!

Nature & Parks
A while back, I visited Bannosu Park during my work trip. The atmosphere was serene, possibly due to the recent rain in the evening. The park appeared deserted but offered a delightful stroll in the fresh air, cleansed by the rain. Although not many flowers were in bloom at that time of year, scattered roses and other blossoms added beauty to the surroundings. This spacious and comfortable park left a positive impression, making me eager to return when all the flowers are in full bloom.

They were blooming in clusters and were cute. The yellow weeds? They were blooming together and looked nice. It was my first time here, but there were roses, hydrangeas and other flowers planted, so it seems even better depending on the season. There were also posters called "birthday trees," and it was fun to try to find out what flower my child was. There was also a large parking lot, so I felt at ease. (Translated by Google) This famous temple was chosen by Emperor Sutoku as the final resting place. The emperor's tomb is located within the grounds, creating a pious atmosphere. Even before that, it was a sacred site for Kobo Daishi, and is rich in cultural assets. Nestled in the mountains of Goshikidai, it's surrounded by nature throughout the four seasons, yet is easily accessible, with a wide road running right up to the temple. It's also the setting for a dramatic piece of history: before Emperor Meiji fought against the former shogunate forces, after 700 years, the spirit of Emperor Sutoku was welcomed from this place to the capital in order to secure the Meiji government's support. Even if you're not interested in making the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, we recommend a visit. It's quite high, requiring a short climb from the plains, making it a challenging stop for seasoned hikers. However, the lush trees and cool air along the way make the climb less monotonous. The main deity is the Thousand-Armed Avalokitesvara. The main hall is majestic, and the grounds are spacious. The grounds are lined with towering ancient trees, and stone steps and lanterns stretch all the way to the front of the hall, giving the walk a truly ancient temple atmosphere. Akira udon is bukkake udon with a sweet sauce, and is eaten by adding wasabi and mixing it in. The wasabi rounds out the sweetness of the sauce, and it has just the right amount of seasoning, making it easy to eat with your chopsticks. This is a good restaurant where the taste and texture of the noodles are impressive.

Udon noodle restaurant
If you're on the hunt for a delightful dining experience, look no further than Machikawa! This charming eatery specializes in Sanuki udon, offering an impressive quantity at remarkably affordable prices. With a cozy atmosphere that feels like home, you can enjoy their Kake Udon starting at just 260 yen for a small bowl and 330 yen for a large one—where the latter boasts about three servings! The noodles are perfectly cooked to achieve that ideal balance of softness and elasticity.
(Translated by Google) Delicious, cheap, and the local Sanuki udon! This is the kind of restaurant you'll find here. They've been around for a long time, and while the small bowl of udon is 1.5 servings like other restaurants, the large bowl is 3 servings, and the Kake Udon is 260 yen for a small bowl and 330 yen for a large bowl! The restaurant has a homey atmosphere, and the oden has a traditional taste. They also serve rice balls, and the recommended dish is the Kayaku Gohan! This is just as delicious as the udon. The large Tengu Udon is very filling, and although it's a little different from Shitoku Udon, the sweet broth was delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for the meal 😋 (Original)

As rumored, the amount of noodles was more than average at other restaurants! Be careful when ordering. The noodles were chewy and the broth was slightly sweet and delicious! I'd love to visit again!

The restaurant actively incorporates locally sourced ingredients and boasts the "Tengu Series," of which the "Miso Tengu" is highly regarded as a uniquely Machikawa flavor. ✨ The restaurant has a relaxed, homey atmosphere, with both table seating and tatami rooms available. Of course, the regular menu is available, but I found one dish that really caught my eye! 👀✨✨ I was having a hard time deciding, but this is what I ended up ordering! 👋 "Miso Tengu" (Miso Tengu) 550 yen After a short wait, the bowl arrived. The gorgeous, lavish appearance, packed with ingredients, was truly impressive. 🤩 The colorful toppings include red carrots, red sweet potatoes, Chinese cabbage, and shiitake mushrooms, and the mochi (white rice cakes) add a warming texture. Let's get started! ️ The udon noodles have a supple, smooth texture and are easy to swallow. They have just the right amount of firmness and a rich flavor. 😋✨✨ There's quite a lot of red carrots 🥕 cut into the shape of a tengu 👺. By the way, this udon is topped with tengu and 10 other ingredients! 🤭🤭🤭 The ingredients change depending on the season, but it's a hearty, hearty, and delicious bowl of udon featuring a wide variety of ingredients. 😍 It's perfect for the cold season, but it's also a hearty warming treat any time of the day. Machikawa's udon, which preserves the traditions of Sanuki udon while incorporating local flavors and ideas, is sure to leave a lasting impression on visitors. Please give it a try! ️ I said hello to them on my way out and presented them with a NO NOODLE, NO LIFE. sticker. 😊 It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. (Translated by Google) I received chilled udon. The store is a general store and they will also bring you water. The noodles were medium-thin and served cold, so they were chewy and chewy. The quantity was also good. However, the amount of dipping sauce was small compared to the amount, so I think it would have been better if there was a little more. But the price was good for the quantity. It was delicious. (Translated by Google) The portions of udon are large. The regular-sized bowl comes with two bowls, so it's quite filling. The first time I went, I ordered a large bowl and couldn't finish it, so you should be careful. I had the chilled udon, which was nicely cold and the noodles had a nice firm texture, making it delicious.

(Translated by Google) The portion of udon is generous. The udon is of normal thickness and firm. The dipping sauce has a slightly strong soy sauce flavor. It's cheap despite being a full-service restaurant. I'm interested in the champon udon.

(Translated by Google) Even if it's small, the amount of noodles is a lot, and if it's large, it's about 3 balls of noodles at other restaurants. The noodles are soft but have the necessary elasticity. Nowadays, the prices of many things are going up and we can't afford to live anymore, but surprisingly, as far as I know, prices haven't increased in over 10 years. Combined with the large quantity, the cost performance in terms of quantity is considerable. Tengu udon, which can be said to be a specialty of this restaurant, comes in two types: miso soup stock and soy sauce soup stock. The soy sauce tengu has a rather sweet flavor, and is similar to udon noodles at the end of sukiyaki. Personally, I prefer miso soup. The inside of the store is a small general store, and it gets very crowded at lunchtime, making it uncomfortable. Sharing a table with strangers is common. There are about 6 parking spaces in front of the store, but many people park their cars in the space reserved for the lane expansion. The road in front of the store will eventually be made into four lanes, so parking will likely become quite inconvenient.
