Hsinchu in 3 days

If you only have 3 days to spend in Hsinchu, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Hsinchu offers a mix of traditional Taiwanese culture and high-tech energy, with its historic Chenghuang (City God) Temple area surrounded by popular street-food stalls and old shophouses. You can walk or cycle along the coast at Nanliao Fishing Harbor, where boardwalks and sea views draw both locals and visitors. The city also has green escapes like Eighteen Peaks Mountain and several parks, plus science- and industry-themed museums that reflect its role as Taiwan’s “Silicon Valley.” Nearby hot springs and countryside in Hsinchu County are easily reached for day trips.
With favorites like Jhulien Temple, 阿城號米粉, and 雅珍號ㄍㄜㄍㄜ羹, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like 小蒙牛頂級麻辣養生鍋 新竹晶品城店 and Thai Town Cuisine - Hsinchu Big City Store so you can get the best taste of Hsinchu while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Hsinchu, also known as Big City, is a bustling hub in the heart of the city. This eight-level mall offers a diverse range of shops and restaurants, including luxury stores, home furnishings, clothing outlets, electronics shops, a movie theater, and grocery stores. Visitors are advised to allocate plenty of time for exploration as 1-2 hours may not suffice. Comfortable footwear is recommended due to the vast area to cover.
I really liked the mall. Beautifully designed. Lots of shops, good food shops too.
Eliya — Google review
The ideal location for shopping and entertainment! Big City is Taiwan's largest retail centre in Hsinchu, with a wide range of brands. Big City is also known for its indoor sports and entertainment facilities. There are movies, bookshops, fitness centres, skating and rollerblading rinks, and so on. There are many more dining alternatives, including a food court that serves foreign cuisine and a variety of theme restaurants with a cosy environment.
Kami B — Google review
Biggest shopping mall in Hsinchu City. The food court here is really nice and has plenty of options. Nice and supportive staffs.
Devanand E — Google review
Just like it's name, this mall is the biggest in Hsinchu city. Their food hall has plenty great selection of food and dessert! And they even have the best Japanese hair cut store as well. You may want to go there when outside is over 33 degree Celsius.
Una F — Google review
The only big entertainment in hsinchu. It's great that it has youbike stations nearby, and it's quite a big mall, basement also have a general store. you will often see dancers near the mall, and some of the restrooms has free water, unfortunately there is no bidet. The food is moderately expensive usually costing 200-400 NT. and for shopping the general idea is to find products you like then buy similar ones online to save money
Qwerty Q — Google review
Very Big Shopping Mall with a lot of stuff. Movie theater, Bowling Alley, Baseball Hall all include. Lots of food to choose. I even brought a bag at porter Taiwan. Can spend 6 hour at the shopping mall. Overall 100% experience

Big mall. I'm not big fan of these but here you can find all you need..
Jon D — Google review
This is one of the most incredible malls I have ever been to. By far the biggest around. 8 floors of shopping and eating. I suggest that if you are in the Hsinchu area, that you take a day and go visit this place. Absolutely amazing to say the least.

The Military Community Museum is a small, well-maintained museum that showcases a variety of historical artifacts related to military history. The exhibits include retro objects from different eras and are displayed across multiple levels. The museum offers free admission and visitors can take pictures of the paintings outside. It's an excellent place to visit with family and friends when time permits. The friendly staff is always ready to assist visitors in making their experience enjoyable, and the museum is definitely worth taking the time to explore.
Highly recommended! In order to understand the importance of Hsinchu to the defence of Taiwan against communist China invasion ever since 1949, it is a must visit! It is also a look of history in a nutshell.. I would start the visit with a look of the Hsinchu city map dotted with lights each marking a military village! They are filling the whole city! And not limited by the air forces at all.. They are all branches of the military services in order to protect Taiwan from military attacks! Our post-war generations cannot appreciated the sacrifices elder generations made without a visit of this museum! 飲水思源! 我大力推薦您來此一遊!I highly recommend a visit of the Hsinchu military community museum when you are in town!

A museum of the Military Dependents Village in Hsinshu City. The museum tells the story of the dependents of the military. Telling the reason of moving here, the lifestyle in the past and displaying the stuff with photos in the past. Showing the environment and history of the Military Dependents Village. Free entry, not crowded on weekdays.
Wai C — Google review
We drove to the museum, the place is hard to parking the car. The museum was fun is shows the old time military villages. Include how do they lived in old what do they eat and what do they for fun. If you are interested to know their old time life it is good to visits there. And there is for free. Not much people going there.

Zhongzhengtai Shopping District

(4479)
Zhongzhengtai Shopping District, located near Dongmen Gate, is a bustling area filled with trendy fashion boutiques offering the latest styles from Korea and Japan. The Zhongzhengtai Trend Boutique Mall is a popular starting point, but exploring the surrounding streets reveals hidden gems in the form of clothing, shoes, and accessories stores. While the night market here may not be ideal for food enthusiasts, it offers an array of fashionable clothing options to try on.
Took awhile to look for this night market as its entrance is actually facing off the road. Its like an "hidden treasure" in disguise. You find another traditional night market in a night market.
Nicholas S — Google review
Definitely not the typical Taiwanese night market that tourists are thinking about, where small stalls are set up on the roads at night offering a variety of food and activities. This is a stretch of road that has small brick and mortar shops opened in the evening selling some fashionwear, claw machines bubble tea and a cinema in the midst of the street.
Kajor K — Google review
The night market does not suit people who are searching for food. As the night market presents a variety of clothes selection, but it does not have much choices in their food stands . Though it is a great place for people to try on the fashionable clothing available.

It’s just a common traditional market which still open till night. You might find clothing and shoes here. There’s no many places for snacking. It’s near the city centre and supermall

J.Piin is a vibrant retail hub that spans four lower and two upper floors, nestled conveniently next to the square in front of Hsinchu station. This shopping destination offers a mix of stores and restaurants, making it an ideal spot for leisurely outings with family or friends. The twelfth floor is particularly popular for its dining options, where visitors can enjoy delicious meals while taking in stunning views from the elevators. Although there are limited escalators, the elevators provide a comfortable ride to higher levels.
Nice place, lots of relaxing areas, comfortable, strategic, supported by good facilities. Close to the shopping Area
Rifki C — Google review
A shopping mall located besides the square infront of the Hsinchu station. nothing much here .
Maryjoy M — Google review
Not a fantastic place to spend time, although the parking space is plenty, lifts are too few to carry people to the floors they want in time. The entire 15 floor building only has about 5 elevators, and no escalators at all. Floor plans arent that smart either; shops are at ground floor to 3rd, and restaurants are on the tops starting from 12th, parking lots are in betweem. Honest to god, who build a building like this? So incompetent.....
Greg L — Google review
I have visited this shopping mall with parents and classmates. I am fond of restaurants on level 12. But there are only few escalators. I still love taking elevators to higher levels. And watch view outside.

Thai Town Cuisine offers a delightful dining experience with its delicious Thai food. The interior decor is reminiscent of Joel Robuchon, adding to the ambiance. Dishes like shrimp pancakes and Tom Yum salad are particularly tasty, while the shrimp fried rice is a standout. Noodle shop
If you're in Taiwan and craving a taste of authentic duck dishes, look no further than Yuan Night Market Duck Noodle. Unlike the more elaborate Peking or Cantonese duck preparations, this eatery focuses on delivering simple yet flavorful dishes that highlight the deliciousness of duck meat. Whether you prefer your duck in a hearty noodle soup or crispy and fried, this place has got you covered. Visitors have praised the cleanliness of the establishment as well as its generous portion sizes at affordable prices.
A vendor who grow up in the area told us not to go to Shu Duck meat shop and insisted on taking us to this store, as it turn out to be very clean and tasty, also generous serving size but inexpensive($510 for 4 girls). Will come again when I am in the area.

First time to try here. The staff were so rude. Order mixed noodles with duck. The noodles were good but only got 3 small pieces of duck bones with barely any meat on it. There is another store nearby try that one instead of this one.

Hsinchu Zoo, the oldest zoo in Taiwan dating back to 1936, is a small yet charming establishment that recently underwent renovations in 2019. With over 300 animals from approximately 100 different species, including endangered species from Asia's tropical rainforests and native Taiwanese wildlife, the zoo attracts around 300,000 visitors annually.
Definitely a zoo and park for everyone , so exciting and satisfying to watch animals in real life, not only in YouTube and Geographic channel🤣😅. So I would recommend you as well to pay a visit your relatives lol. And if you catch hungriness here, a food nearby is affordable and delicious of course.

Hsinchu Zoo is one of my favorite places to visit from time to time, especially with a lot of green landscape and quite smooth access trails for kids and the elderly. Besides those amazing spots of animals living , there is a fabulous Starbucks coffee shop in the Park area where used to be one of historical buildings in Hsinchu Zoo. However, we found the stairway access to the 2nd floor of Starbucks Coffee Shop was full of SPIDERWEBS almost everywhere , which gave us an astonishing sense of Halloween Decoration Could Hsinchu Zoo Administration Team please make the environment more attractive with tidiness and cleanliness for Zoo visitors a better impression. We really appreciate the friendly atmosphere you create for Zoo Visitors. Thank you so much.

A huge place to explore. It have Hsinchu zoo beside the park, also great place to see cherry blossoms

Hsinchu Park is a place all about creativity and innovation. The park is not just located besides a scenic lake, and it also has Confucius Temple and monument of memorial for great leadership. The glass museum and zoo would be the best choice to spend your time with precious one. After burning some calories you could enjoy a cold brew here too. Worthwhile visiting Hsinchu Park to create memories.

This is a clean, well kept park with a wide range of facilities. A lot of work has been done on this park in the last few years and it shows. Inside the park you’ll find a floodlit running track, some nice shaded areas to walk, open areas for skateboarding etc, and on Sundays a flower market. Although the flower market does sell flowers and plants it also has stalls with food, games, and so on. It’s worth mentioning that the park is also safe and doesn’t seem to have anyone hanging around that would make you uncomfortable even at night (we were just there at 9pm). There is a Starbucks and various cafes, including ones in restored historic buildings. It’s worth mentioning that the city zoo is also located in the park.
Bob C — Google review
Partly connected with zoo, you can see monkeys. Also bugs house is a worth.

nice park to chill, there is weekend market near the park. It is the same vicinity as hsinchu zoo and glass museum. There is a large lake with many ducks, fishes, and turtles. There is also field to do running and doing other sports.
Retnani L — Google review
Beautiful park. The cherry blossoms are the highlight, along with the glass museum and the adjacent glass blowing studio. The overall layout and design reminded me of parks in Japan. The pond with the wooden footbridge and deck were a nice touch. The kids loved viewing the massive koi fish. The day we went, we got to enjoy live music on the deck. Next to the park is a small night market with food vendors and classic games (ring toss, fishing, etc), and a track and field open to the public. The public bathroom by the track is big and relatively clean! Easy walk to and from the backside of the HsinChu train station.

Yin Hsi East Gate, also known as Yingximen, is a well-preserved 2-tiered city gate dating back to the Qing Dynasty. This historic monument stands on a granite base with an arch and offers visitors a glimpse into centuries-old architectural brilliance. It holds great historical significance for Hsinchu, being the only gate standing after the Japanese era.
This gate is such a cool place to see. It comes alive at night. There were people practicing dance moves, bike tricks, and drawing. It’s such a fun place to just hang out.

Nice place to look around briefly. There's an underpass from the river nearby (don't try to cross the roundabout!!). Cool piece of history in the middle of the city. The rivers nearby are also really nice. If your bus is quite late (it probably is let's be real) come check it out!

Nice historical place. Best to see it in the evening.

Nice place to drop by if you're nearby. There is a large underpass where teenagers practice dancing at night, complete with sockets for public use. You can cross the massive roundabout using the underpass instead of having to battle the cars and scooters. A neat historic monument to check out.

Enjoyed watching the sunset near the east gate. Also enjoyed the fashion district and claw machines places.

I like this place, from the photo there's a cheap steak house just above the Giordano store. So many food to choose from, my only complaint is that it has so small room and few table good for couple, and 4-6 group of people. During peak hours you have to wait because theres a long qeue.

Eighteen Peaks Mountain

Hiking area
Shibajianshan, also known as Eighteen Peaks Mountain, is a forest park located in Hsinchu County. The park features paved walkways and stairs that wind through the forested hillsides, offering beautiful views from observation decks. It spans about 7-8 km and includes a variety of trees providing ample shade for leisurely walks. Visitors can enjoy the lush greenery and easy hiking trails, making it a great place for a relaxing stroll.
I had a few hours in the afternoon to check out the sites and decided to go for a hike at eighteen peaks. It was a really worthwhile experience. I love being in places with super lush greenery and this place didn't disappoint. The forest was thick and green. The hiking is pretty easy, so if you are going to look for a hard workout, this isn't the place for you, but if you want a nice walk, this is definitely worth visiting.
Brig A — Google review
Nice stroll in a relaxed atmosphere through the green forest. Birds, flowers, trees, butterflies and some type of a squirrel. About 2 hours. Water fountains and toilets on the path. Well paved.

A lovely walk through the Eighteen Peaks Mountain Park, located in the middle of the city. It is well-visited on weekends, and there are differences in elevation that are easily navigated via steps and paths. Beautiful views of Hsinchu, pavilions in the middle of the city park.
Manuela ( — Google review
It's not actually hiking at all. Just a nice walk through the park that if you go to the right pavilions you can get a good view of Hsinchu
John F — Google review
Huge place to "hike". You will be walking on a concrete. I don't consider this a hike because I think it is better to call it as walking. Great place to exercise though as there were a lot of pull up bars. Nice place to relax. There were a lot of water dispenser also so better bring your water bottle with you. I love this place and there's a lot of shade to hide you from the sun.
Jericha I — Google review
A very good park. Very close to the Chinchu City. A lots of free parking lots. Covering with a variety of trees 🌳 🌲, letting one can walk on the trails with no confusing with sunshine. Many R.O. water machines are freely provided on the roadside, so one can easily get a drink all the time when one walking or sporting here. The views are good to see the whole Chinchu City. Several toilets inside the park. Many historic bomb shelters exit in the park. Overall speaking, this is a very good city park, just like the Central Park in New York City.
李好命 — Google review
Wide twisting paved paths up a series of small peaks. It's very popular for people doing daily exercise. The flora is beautiful. There are many hand washing stations and drinking water dispensers, with toilets available too. Overall it's great for a pleasant hilly walk.

Great place to go for a morning run while in Hsinchu city. Quiet, safe place with many rest points and also a rest room at the start. Easy to get there by taxi, bus or bike (can use the bike sharing ones) and there are lots of parking available too.

新橋燒肉屋 府後店, located in Hsinchu, is widely regarded as one of the top Korean BBQ establishments in town. This authentic coal-fired Yakiniku restaurant offers an extensive menu with generous portion sizes, especially if you opt for their set menus. The prices are reasonable and the quality of the food is impressive when compared to others in its category. The staff members are friendly and attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience.
Chanced upon this cozy restaurant during a recent holiday. We ordered a set meal for 2 as we were spoilt for choices. The set meal is definitely value for money and portion is more than enough for 2 pax. Loved the wagyu slices most. Restaurant was clean and service was good. Staff were attentive to refill the lettuce and change our grill.

Quite exceptional Yakiniku restaurant. The food is just excellent, the service is good, and it clearly promises to have a good time, with friends or as a couple. But it's easy to spend 600 to 800 TWD per person. Still, every once in a while, it's definitely worth it.

Hand made pizza! Chef is from Brazil! Really nice ambience! The pizza flavor is right for Brazilian taste! Definitely coming back for more in the future for feijoada and stroganoff! Most of his ingredients are imported from Brazil! Really authentic as I’m from Brazil!

There are three sizes of pizza can be chosen, 6, 10, 13 inches. And customers can choose two flavours for the 10 and 13 inches. Beef Sfiha$50, the bread is soft with cheese and slices of beef in it. It's not the same as when I searched for the Sfiha online. Pizza $200, there is a generous cheese. There are 3 types of sources that can be used for dining in, chili flakes, pepper, and Sriracha. The chili flakes are not hot.

The prices at 1010湘 (Hunan) restaurant are a bit high, but the food is fresh and tasty. The air conditioning is very effective and keeps the place cool. They offer a package for four people priced at 2580. The fried rice with bacon has some cartilage in it, but overall the dishes are good. Their soup is especially delicious.

Chili scrambled eggs/stinky tofu in a dry pot/bangbang shrimp/cumin ribs are must-order dishes every time we go there. The black sesame sago sauce is the perfect finish!! (Translated by Google) The price is similar to Wa City, a bit more expensive, but the food tastes pretty good. Today I had a set meal for two, including cumin ribs, beef with pine nut rice cake, General Tso's chicken, and Hunan-style cabbage. I chose a lychee-flavored frozen drink. Among them, the beef with pine nut rice cake is very appetizing, the ribs and General Tso's chicken are a bit heavy in taste, the cabbage is a bit too oily, and the drinks are very ordinary. The added pepper preserved eggs are sour and spicy, and the dessert almond tofu is not to my liking. Next I'll come back next time and want to try braised pork, Dong'an chicken and a jar of incense. Visit again: The dishes ordered this time are more appetizing. The braised pork is slightly spicy and goes well with rice. The fermented bean curd and water spinach are quite delicious. The fried chicken with saliva is a bit heavy for me, but my brother likes it very much. The fragrance is very rich in a jar. But it's a little salty for me (Original)

Chophouse restaurant
A CUT Steakhouse, a renowned chophouse restaurant in Taipei with a Michelin Star, offers high-quality meat cooked to perfection. The menu includes a selection of delectable dishes such as Caesar Salad, Clam Chowder, and the option of ribeye or sirloin accompanied by prawns. Indulge in oolong tea ice-cream for dessert and savor mignardises like Madelines along with tea or coffee.
A Cut offers a semi set menu, the first two courses you have many options, you select one of the dishes, the main course you can select from different type and weight of the steak, and of course how you wanted cook. We selected the USDA prime ribeye steak 230 g and cooked to medium rare. Beef tongue (nice thick cut) and beef soup (tasted different than the Tainan beef soup, this one came with a nice chunk of beef) for appetizers, mushrooms sautéed in butter for side dish. The dessert I selected the Corn soufflé and coffee ice cream. The steak was cooked to perfection. We were able to have private room with door and curtains which makes me nice private. Excellent restaurant! The red is located on the 9th floor of the Ambassador Hotel Hsin Chu.

High quality meat cooked to perfection - with a price to match. We went for the Michelin taster meal for two(their Taipei branch has a Michelin Star). It included a Caesar Salad, Clam Chowder, choice of ribeye, or sirloin with prawns, oolong tea ice-cream, mignardies (Madelines) and tea or coffee for 3800+10%. The bread was nice, the salad was fresh, and the chowder forgettable. The highlight of the meal was easily the meat. Despite ordering the cheaper cut it was excellent. It was sealed the a crispy crust and then gently cooked.

Chenghuang Temple Night Market is a bustling market located around the Chenghuang Temple, offering a variety of local delicacies and street food. Known for its lively atmosphere, this market is popular among tourists and locals alike. Visitors can indulge in Taiwanese street food items such as pork balls, spring rolls, and bouncy meatballs. The market's proximity to the temple adds to its vibrant charm, making it a must-visit destination in Hsinchu.
This was my first night market and it's awesome and amazing. Some many people, great food, great treats, and a big sense of community. While waiting at one place (see other reviews for it) a lady the man cook were joking with which other. I laughed too, even tho I have no idea what they are saying. She walked away and came back to give me a Temple Souvenir. Like I said COMMUNITY She is the lady in the picture

Smaller than the famous night markets in Taiwan but it does the job if you like the Taiwanese food. Many small stalls presenting the variety of food. Its clean and hygienic as usual. Nearby places and streets are worth the stroll. Lovely scenes and beautiful locations. Better to rent the YouBike bicycle and roam around, you will fall in love with it.

We ate here en route to 清境农场 (Cingjing a.k.a. Qingjing Farm). Lunch venue was at this shop" 王家蚵仔煎" located in the vicinity of Hsinchu's City God Temple inside sort of an alleyway lined with food stalls selling the city's all-time favourite and old-time flavours such as Hsinchu rice vermicelli (新竹米粉), fish balls and pork balls (魚丸, 贡丸). The duck egg pancakes sold along the streets were also delicious. We bought 4 pieces for NT$30. The jam is home-made; there's chocolate, custard, lemon, red bean and plain as filling options for those pancakes. This night market operates earlier than most other night markets found in Taiwan but the stalls are not as many as the rest.

This temple is definitely on the list of place to visit if you are traveling to discover Hsinchu. Despite being old and full of history, this temple has interesting design and it's usually quite lively. But the surrounding scene, full of local restaurants, just a few steps away from the main altar, is surprisingly funny. It's like a "Let's pray for whatever we believe or expect, and then, let's enjoy some local food speciality to celebrate it".
Martin M — Google review
This is one of the must-see attractions if you are in Hsinchu, which is not saying much. It is much like a night market except it only sells food, closes early, and has a temple attached.....But there are stands, small eateries and sitting spaces and the vibe is similar if you catch my drift. It is a very cultural experience. They sometimes have events there like a Hakka pig butchering or a lion dance. It's wonderful and you can smell the sweet incense from the mall. The toilets are back there and they are clean enough as far as night market bathrooms go. You can get all the Hsinchu staples here, vermicelli, pork balls, squid soup, oyster pancakes, and crystal meat balls stamped with different red shapes depending on the stall or flavors. They also have other specialty foods like fried black water caltrop, fried taro balls, fresh herbal tea. Highly recommend!

The Hsinchu City God Temple, a busy temple complex established in 1747, is a significant historic site and religious center in Hsinchu. 🌟 "Where Ancient Prayers Meet Street Food Magic!" 🛕🍜 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you're visiting Hsinchu, don’t miss the soul of the city—Chenghuang Temple (City God Temple)! Nestled in the heart of Hsinchu’s bustling downtown, this 18th-century temple isn't just a place of worship—it’s a living museum, cultural hub, and local foodie paradise all rolled into one. 🧧✨ --- 🏛️ Spiritual Serenity in the City Built in 1748, this temple is one of the oldest and most respected City God temples in Taiwan. It’s not just a temple—it’s a historical landmark. The architectural beauty blew me away—the intricate dragon carvings, vivid wall paintings, and the octagonal ceiling in the main hall are must-see. 😍🐉 The incense, prayers, and peaceful energy inside truly make you pause and reflect. This isn’t just for tourists—it’s an active temple where locals still come to pray for justice, health, and protection. 🙏 You’ll find a blend of tradition and devotion that’s humbling and powerful. --- 🎭 Cultural Richness & Festivals If you happen to visit during the Ghost Festival (around July–August), you’re in for a treat! A massive procession with drums, costumes, and offerings takes over the streets, starting right from this temple. 🥁👹 It’s a cultural explosion—locals believe the City God leads spirits back peacefully, keeping the city safe. Plus, don’t miss the Lantern Festival and the City God's birthday (Lunar Nov 29)—it’s lit with glowing lanterns, performances, and spiritual energy you can’t explain, only feel. 🎇🕯️ --- 🍱 Foodie Heaven Just Outside Right outside the temple is a vibrant street food market that smells as divine as the temple feels! 😋 🔥 Must-Try Bites: Rice vermicelli (a Hsinchu specialty) Oyster omelette Braised pork rice Plum flower egg cakes 🍳🌸 (local favorite!) What an interesting place! Very busy, lively and vibrant. The temple is found amidst foodstalls, hidden away from the outside roads. Easy to navigate but intriguing in its design and atmosphere. There was a religious ceremony in process when I was there so I couldn't enter the inside of the temple, but it was fascinating to watch.
Ivo N — Google review
The Hsinchu God Temple on New Year's Day was extremely busy and crowded. There were a lot of people there to pray and make offerings, which made it difficult to move around. The smoke from incense added to the festive atmosphere, but also made it a bit overwhelming for those sensitive to smoke. Overall, the temple is a must-visit during the New Year celebrations and is a great place to experience traditional Taiwanese culture.
JIA H — Google review
The most powerful City God in Taiwan. I particularly like this temple due to its business and all the food venders at the front area. A temple not to be missed visiting temples in Taiwan.
Paul G — Google review
This temple within the Hsinchu city with the many food vendors and shops is a throwback to the past. Lots of food choices for those hungry to try different Taiwanese local delicacies. The temple is historic, one of the oldest in Hsinchu and one of the most visited.

A peaceful spot for a night of walking and heartfelt conversation with a good friend.

A quiet park where you can walk across stepping stones on the water or admire the scenery. It's nice but small, and not much else to do but walk and maybe look at the fish and turtles. No playgrounds or kids area, but a nice stroll overall when you're wandering the area. Leads to the East Gate of Hsinchu.

Hsinchu is a youngish city with lots of tall buildings and wind canyons but the Moat gardens are a welcome break from the cityscape. Green and shady with the river flowing slowly through a nice break from the sun too. There is a lot of different wildlife, birds turtles and fish to spot and in the evenings they run a market too. An interesting feature is the Yiin Hsi East Gate now in the middle of a busy roundabout but a little oasis of interest and calm.
Ian S — Google review
It’s probably nicer at night but during the day the kids had fun going back and forth.
Kelvin F — Google review
A strip of greenery running through 5he city, with a canal in the middle. Fish, birds and turtles call this place home. Nothing much to do, just relax and enjoy. Passes through the site of the old city East gate.

Warehouse store
A.mart Big City Store is a convenient supermarket located in the bustling Big City shopping mall, easily accessible from Basement 1 or Basement 3. While it may not be massive, it offers a solid selection of everyday groceries including fresh produce, meats, and an array of wines and beers. Shoppers can also find household items and some furniture here. Although it's not the place for luxury goods—CitySuper caters to that crowd on B1—A.
Always keeps coming back here because all i need and want was here ❤️,My recent visit was yesterday and there's a lot of people because it's holiday 10-10. Love it 🤩
Ma. A — Google review
Situated at 4th ground floor, at Big City. Not very big, but still you can find, almost everthing related to groceries. If you are visiting Big City, then you can visit a.mart. You can buy fruits vegetables also there. But not recommended for special visit, if you want to buy groceries. It's a little big version of PX Mart. Parking is not at issue, as it is at Big City.
Kabul S — Google review
If purchased refrigerated or frozen items, you can take your receipt to the service counter after checkout to request an ice pack to keep them cold. Your purchase can also be used to validate parking.

This is one of the better supermarkets in Hsinchu city....almost all things are available in this shop...nice to shop

DO NOT RECOMMEND. BEWARE OF THEIR SALES! My mom went there to purchase some underwear. A female sale came to assist, but placed an extra item in her shopping basket behind her back. My mom found out at the check out as they scanning through her items. How disgraceful! I was so disgusted. Is this how Taiwanese sales handle their customer?
Kuang T — Google review
It’s a supermarket in a shopping mall, large but not massive. Access is from Basement 1 or basement 3, but the supermarket is in B3. It’s a very normal supermarket with normal prices (if you want luxury or imported items CitySuper is on B1). The there is a good choice of fresh meat, fruit etc A wide range of wine and beer. Plus a small selection of furniture and household appliances. A convenient and affordable place to get groceries when you’ve been shopping.
Bob C — Google review
The music and announcements are too loud. It is a health risk to come to this store. Why not keep the volume lower, why do we have to almost scream to hear ourselves in some parts of the store?

Always satisfied with a mart. However, is they increase the varities of cheese, european style sausages and some simple indian spices in powder form it will be great. Thanks.

Located in the bustling hawker center near City Deity Temple, 雅珍號ㄍㄜㄍㄜ羹 is a cozy 5-seater eatery renowned for its unique flavors. Despite its small size, this gem offers a succinct yet impressive menu that overcomes language barriers for foreign visitors. The must-try thick soup brims with delicious ingredients and pairs perfectly with their renowned meatballs.

(Translated by Google) The shop isn't big, but it has air conditioning. The owner is very welcoming 👍 and the environment is clean. I ordered the pork balls (scallion and pork flavor) today, but unfortunately they were out of the taro flavor. The meatball skin is a bit thick. The simmered soup is a must-try! It's delicious and full of ingredients! The dry noodles are also a huge bowl! The meatball soup is also very good! 2025/09/27

(Translated by Google) Yuanzulin (the entire row of stalls around the corner are from the same company) is listed as Yazhenhao on Google Maps. For this area's snack bar scene, the dining environment is relatively comfortable and bright, and the wait staff are very attentive. The food wasn't very good... The soup was as thick as cold grass jelly, just like the name... The ingredients, both the meat and fish soup, were very powdery! The meatballs had thick skin and little toppings, and the sauce was sweet and garlicky...

PAUL Hsinchu Big City Branch is a newly opened French restaurant that offers pleasant dining experiences. The menu features delicious French dishes, including fish and chips and quiche. The patisserie section offers delectable treats like the strawberry cake with yellow cream and sliced strawberries, as well as eclairs and pastries. While the service may be a bit mixed at times, the overall dining experience is enjoyable. Additionally, they offer complimentary birthday cakes for celebrants.
This is so nice🥺✨ Im like the real Emily in Paris🤣🤣🤣

This is the newly opened branch of Paul’s - French food at a price. Everything we had was pleasant especially the fish and chips that my niece ordered. The service was a bit mixed with things coming at different times, but that might be the odd of what’s an appetiser and what is a main (fish and chips was a appetiser, as was my side portion of fries?). Unfortunately we didn’t eat dessert which looked nice. Overall a nice environment with pleasant food, I wasn’t wowed by anything and it was slightly expensive, but overall a good experience.

They have very tasty strawberry cake. It is a kind of patisseries with yellow cream and sliced strawberries. Three combination is very good, it feels like out side of cake is crispy but middle layer is vey soft, sweet creams. Once you try it, you will love it. Highly recommended to try. One of the best cake in Hsinchu area.

Hot pot restaurant
This casual Chinese eatery, 海底撈火鍋 新竹店, allows customers to customize their own hot pot meals. Alongside their main offerings, they also serve ice cream and fruit for dessert. The restaurant is highly regarded and known for its professional, considerate, and friendly servers. The hot pot soup is rich in flavor and made from scratch with a choice of four different flavors. The shrimp paste is exceptional - perfectly seasoned, firm, and exceptionally fresh.

OH MY GOSH, is these words tell you enough then you need to visit. The staff is super helpful and made many great suggestions which were spot on. I can't wait to go back because I didn't really take any pictures lol. When they a phone holder you know you're in for treat. Where to start keep it simple. Meat and veggies to start build from there. Be mindful how long some items take vs others. Ask if you are not sure but have a local friend really helps. Insider's tip. Maybe I will see you there

A hotpot chain store from China. No doubt of their service. Explain details and suggestion dishes. Also chief’s special. You can choose up to four different soups. Waiters been trained to come ask and serve all the time. Feel a little embarrassing and disturbing. Come with noodle swing and change face show. Rest and wait area with snacks and drinks to serve. Also provide kids room/ nail salon. The quality is fine and $$$ quite high price.

Luxury hotpot with amazing service, very fresh ingredients and prices to match. We loved this restaurant and their attention to detail. When you sit down you’re given an apron, finger wipes and if you’re wearing glasses a lens cleaner. Is that kind of place with that kind of attentiveness (I was thirsty and so my glass was immediately changed for a bigger one). Onto the food we ordered the tomato and the sichuan hot pot soup base - both were delicious. The meat was excellent and could be ordered as a whole or half place. Be aware that it’s an expense place - in terms of value for money the pork was the best meat The portions for the string mushrooms were very generous. I’d also recommend the cucumber (yes in a hotpot) and the fresh noodles, not because you get many but because they were so good. As well as the dishes you order you’re given unlimited cold noodles with carrot, edamame beans, and seaweed. Hai Di Lao is up there with Din Tai Fung - places that taste great but are only for special occasions. Part of what you would normally be paying for is the art of marking fresh noodles at your table and the extra services (getting your nails done, shoes cleaned etc). This can’t happen now because of Covid-19. So be aware of this before you go.
Bob C — Google review
It’s one of my favorite restaurants. Our server: 范羽辰 was the most professional, thoughtful and friendly waitress I’ve ever met. Hot pot soup was flavorful and made from scratch- we chose four flavors. Shrimp paste was incredible- seasoned to perfection, firm and very fresh. So was Haidiao Style Sliced Beef- lean yet soft. Our server helped us choose the most popular and tasty dishes- she was very kind, knowledgeable and helpful. We also got free dessert- delicious Fried Sliver Thread Buns. Incredible experience, delicious fresh food and outstanding service. That’s why we keep coming back.
