Rainbow Village

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled just outside Taichung, Rainbow Village is a delightful explosion of color and creativity that captivates visitors of all ages. Once a humble veterans' village constructed to house Chinese soldiers, this charming locale has transformed into an artistic haven thanks to the remarkable efforts of Mr. Huang, one of its last residents. His vibrant murals adorn the walls and streets, showcasing whimsical depictions of animals, dolls, airplanes, and even beloved manga characters.
A beautiful little village full of Taiwan’s history. You can really feel the vibe once you’re there. Whether you stay for 5 minutes or 30, it all depends on your mood and interest. Don’t forget to stop by the lady selling souvenirs at the entrance—her prices are very local and fair! It’s free to enter though. Easy to get here by bus from the city.
JRM D — Google review
Rainbow Village is a tiny spot with a big reputation. I went in with moderate expectations and I think that helped. The entire place is really just a small cluster of brightly painted houses, transformed by the cheerful hand of a former soldier known as Grandpa Rainbow. The colors are vibrant, and the folk-style drawings covering every inch of wall and ground make it feel playful and unique. That said, it’s a very quick stop you can walk through it in about 10 minutes. It’s photogenic, no doubt, and has a sort of whimsical charm, especially if you catch it when it’s not crowded. If you’re nearby or passing through, it’s a fun little detour. But if you’re coming from far just for this, it might feel underwhelming unless paired with other activities. It’s more about the spirit and story than the scale. Good for a few colorful photos and a gentle reminder of how a simple artistic gesture can put a place on the map.
Antonella S — Google review
Love the colourful village, really brighten up the visit. Can be a bit hot sometimes and no much space to rest. Visitors all busy taking Instagramable photos. There's also a talented busker performing, and some activities to keep young kids occupied. There are a lot of interesting artwork and we spent almost 2 hours there, although the place is actually quite small and the visit can be completed in less than 30mins for some.
CF C — Google review
Is such a cheerful little spot, full of colors, art, and stories behind every wall. It’s a bit warm walking around, but the bright murals and cute photo corners totally make up for it. Just take it slow, grab a cold drink nearby, and enjoy the happy vibes! 🌈
Cheiro T — Google review
It's a small area where all the houses and walls were painted with colourful drawings. It's free for admission. There're quite some people as it's a Saturday morning. But it's still not too crowded. You can find space to take pictures easily.
Clare L — Google review
Rainbow village is a must-see for its incredible backstory and unique visual appeal, but manage your expectations regarding its size. It's a short, colorful stop that is best enjoyed when combined with other taichung attractions like Moment Cafe and Wanggaoliao Viewpoint. #gorgeousventure
Ms. P — Google review
The beautiful colors of rainbow village adapts to the mood of people visiting here. I admit I got tired traveling, but seeing these magnificent murals gave me a rewarding feeling that I can still enjoy my vacation no matter how tired I am
Keisuraaa 1 — Google review
Really enjoyed coming to this place, although it is quite a long bus ride away from north district and it is maybe smaller than one would think. I think there's a lot of art to admire, you can also walk along one of the walls to try and find your Chinese zodiac sign which is pretty cool. Additionally, there's a wall where you can leave a special message and hang it there. I enjoyed that concept of leaving something for others to see. If you go, plan in advance while considering bus routes, weather, and while a 711 is somewhat near (north) make sure to bring WATER!

Nestled along the coast of Taichung, the Gaomei Wetlands are a stunning natural haven that captivates visitors with their breathtaking scenery and vibrant wildlife. This picturesque area is renowned for its expansive boardwalk, which invites leisurely strolls while offering spectacular views of migrating birds and the iconic wind turbines that dot the landscape.
Manage to catch the beautiful sunset! Recommended to reach around 5pm, so you can still enjoy the surroundings before the sky goes dark
Zai T — Google review
I was there on a foggy grey day and did not see the sunset. Despite that we still enjoyed ourselves. Get down into the sandbar is highly recommended! First brave the knee deep water that was still icy in springtime. Thanks to our KK day driver and guide for a great day outing!
Haz T — Google review
Sun was hidden behind the clouds 🥲, missed the beautiful sunset view. Great place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. A lot of mini crab and natures.
Alchymist L — Google review
Beautiful place to see the sunset, often crowded with many coming to view the sunset. I recommend wearing shorts and wearing sandals so you can enjoy the cool water and take good photos.

Gaomei Wetland in Taiwan is a hidden gem! The scenic views of the wetlands and the sea are breathtaking. The boardwalks and trails offer a peaceful stroll with nature. The stunning row of wind turbines silhouetted against the horizon are especially gorgeous during sunset when the golden hour lights up the sky. Timing your visit for sunset is a must - the views are simply stunning! 🌅 Afterward, stroll through the nearby shops and indulge in some sweet treats. A must-visit for nature lovers and those looking for a serene escape from the city. 🌿🐦🌊"

As a sunset enthusiast, the scenery was spectacular. I wish I could just stand there and watch the sun set forever while the sea breeze blows my worries away. The moment was spontaneous, yet it felt like a triumph after a long adventure. Suddenly, I wasn’t feeling tired anymore. I can see why this is such a famous place, really. Here are some snapshots. I swear, it’s way better in person.

Such a nice place with a perfect sunset viewing its worth it riding my bicycle from Doulio Yunlin County to here.
Reynan Z — Google review
It's okay. You can see abundance of small crabs. At the end of the path your can thread the water and walk much further on the beach, so bring appropriate footwear

Fengchia Night Market

Mentioned on
3 lists
Night market
Feng Chia Night Market, also known as Wenhua Night Market, is Taichung's largest and most popular night market. Established in 1963, it offers a bustling atmosphere with a variety of vendors selling food, clothing, accessories, and other goods. The market has expanded to include shops along Wen-hua street, Fengjia street, Fushin road, Xian street and more.
The food was delicious & cheap. Kiddos were enjoying the food too much, they didn't complain at all about eating while standing up the whole time. There were too many options to choose from. Although there was a language barrier, we managed just fine to order and purchase all the food.
Karina A — Google review
Tried quite a few things there, quite a variety. Not much game stalls. Most memorable from this night market is the chicken thigh roll that no one was queuing! Sausage frm the famous 大肠包小肠stall was also yummy! Pepper bun was nt bad only despite long queue.. their grape vinegar was nice and refreshing though. Sweet potato balls was ok only too, despite another long queue stall. Master of tea at the start of night market is very good.
Juan J — Google review
First visit, not overly crowded and can shop to your heart content. Things that I feel worth trying out were the fried milk stall (crispy on the outside but soft like tauhu milk filling inside). Huang ji sesame oil chicken soup, the soup was superb but too bad no 🍚 option. Another shop which tickle my tastebud was china street food dried vegetable pancake. Thin slice of pancake stuffed with "mui choy" crispy and savoury.
Lee C — Google review
This is such a well-rounded night market ,it has everything from food stalls, hole in the wall restaurants to clothing/ shoe shops, plus a few carnival and claw machine arcades. I’d recommend going earlier; we arrived around 6 p.m. and didn’t have enough time to see it all. Although it’s busy, the pathway is wider than most, making it easier to move around somewhat lol. There’s even a garbage bag near the front of the market (a rare find, haha). The washroom is located in a nearby plaza — just follow the signs downstairs — but do bring your own tissue paper. I also suggest exploring the area around the night market, as there are plenty of shops and restaurants. We took the HSR to Taichung Station and then an Uber, which took about 25 minutes. Don’t forget to bring cash!
Happy L — Google review
There are tons of famous local snacks around, and one of my favorites is the takoyaki! The grilled chicken chop takes about 18 minutes to cook but honestly tastes pretty average. The Taiwanese sausage wrap (big sausage wrapped around a small one) was super filling, not particularly special in flavor, but I just had to try it since it’s such a classic. The Matsusaka pork was tender and delicious, and the sweet potato balls were so addictive I couldn’t stop popping them one after another! There were still so many yummy things I wanted to try, but my stomach just gave up too soon.
Cheiro T — Google review
Fengchia Night Market in Taichung was super fun! There were so many different foods and snacks to try — everything looked and smelled amazing. It was a bit far from our hotel near Taichung Train Station, and we got a little lost trying to figure out the bus, so we just took an Uber in the end. But honestly, it was totally worth it. Great vibes, great food, and a really fun night overall! ✨
Natasha — Google review
Favourite night market in Taiwan. A wide variety of food and cheap and a lot of things to see also. No need to worry about dirty street as there are rubbish bags along the street which is great improvement against my past experience traveling to Taiwan (back then I need to carry my oily dirty plastic bag with my food waste around since hard to find rubbish bin). Cartain area smells a bit not generally is good.

Definitely a must-see! Amazing food, engaging vendors, fun time all around! Bring cash. But everything is very affordable!

Nestled amidst the modern skyline of Taichung, the National Taichung Theater is a stunning architectural marvel that captivates visitors with its unique design and vibrant atmosphere. This contemporary venue, crafted by renowned architect Toyo Ito in collaboration with artist Cecil Balmond, features flowing concrete walls that create an enchanting interior reminiscent of a giant egg. Inside, you'll discover diverse performance spaces hosting an array of shows, alongside art exhibitions and cozy bookstores.
I had a great experience at the National Taichung Theater. The architecture is stunning and very modern—just walking around inside felt like being in a work of art. Even without watching a show, it was worth the visit for the design alone. Definitely a must-see in Taichung!
Nestor C — Google review
Beautiful architecture to explore even if you’re not coming to watch a concert. The shops on the ground floor sell is something to check out if you want to buy a souvenir. Also, there’s a cafe and observation deck on the top floor which has great views of the city.
Samuel T — Google review
Beautiful building and the sky garden was especially lovely to visit in the afternoon. In a very nice part of town. I ak glad to have visited here and hope to return to catch a show sometime in the near future
康安樂 — Google review
Great design and good looking architecture. One of the landmarks and tourist attractions in Taichung. We spent some time inside and at the top, admiring the beauty and elegance of the building.
Patrick X — Google review
I went here for the cafe and it had more to offer than I expected. The coffee was so good. The theater has a art and craft space (I think, IDK how they call it) but they have many high quality wooden miniatures, felt animals, handmade souviners for quite affordable prices. But if you don't drink coffe or buy anything, you can still vosit for free
Nghi H — Google review
Enjoyed the artwork here. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. My friends and specially my daughter enjoyed roaming around and taking pictures.
Joshua C — Google review
"A nice spot to revisit in Taichung. I was here 7 years ago; some of the shops inside have changed, and the place feels less busy than it did back then."

Nice. Don't try to eat the VVG food on the 5th floor. The taste is not good if you're hungry. The view is amazing tho.

Museums
Nestled in the vibrant city of Taichung, Taiwan, the National Museum of Natural Science stands as a premier destination for those curious about the wonders of our planet. This expansive museum features five permanent exhibition halls that cater to visitors of all ages, showcasing everything from fascinating dinosaur fossils to intricate butterfly ecosystems and even the marvels of human anatomy. One highlight is the enchanting 'Bird Garden,' where nearly a hundred bird species can be observed in their simulated habitats—perfect for nature enthusiasts and families alike.
I absolutely loved the Chinese Medicine Room! It was fascinating to explore and learn about the acupuncture points and see the natural herbs used in traditional medicine. The dinosaur exhibit was also a highlight—so lifelike! The interactive displays made it easy to learn, though some didn't have English translations, so I recommend having Google Translate handy. We had a great time, and the kids, who were on their mini tour the same day, loved it just as much! The museum is also very accessible by train or bus. I'd definitely visit again!
Maria R — Google review
This museum was much bigger than I expected and you could easily spend all day here. Probably at least half of the exhibits have English translations, and for the others, google translate camera function worked a treat. We also went to the science theatre to watch a film and they gave us headphones so we could get English audio. Absolutely must visit with kids.
Jade J — Google review
The National Museum of Natural Science is such a fantastic spot! It’s huge, beautifully maintained, and incredibly affordable, just NT$120 for adults and NT$60 for kids under 12. You really get so much value for the price. The exhibits cover so much ground, from dinosaurs and the history of life, to human cultures, science and technology, and even a gorgeous botanical garden with a rainforest greenhouse. Everything feels fresh, well cared for, and thoughtfully presented. The layout is easy to navigate, with clear signs and plenty of space to explore. Even when there are large school groups on field trips, it’s big enough that you can simply wander to another area and enjoy things at your own pace without feeling crowded. The restrooms were spotless, which is always a plus, and the gift shop was excellent, full of unique science-themed items and fun souvenirs for all ages. Overall, it’s the kind of museum you can easily spend hours in without running out of things to see. Clean, spacious, affordable, and full of fascinating displays, definitely worth visiting.
Nai L — Google review
Just spent an entire day exploring the National Museum of Natural Science (國立自然科學博物館) in Taichung, and it was a spectacular journey through time and space! 🤩 This isn't just one museum; it's a massive complex packed with discovery. Every hall offers a world of exploration. We started with the incredible Life Science Hall, where we saw everything from realistic wildlife dioramas like the zebra on the savanna 🦓 to massive whale skulls and fossils that make you feel tiny. It’s an immersive look at evolution and biodiversity. Next up was the Earth Science Hall, where you can gaze up at a glowing, detailed model of the Sun 🔥 and explore models of ancient creatures like the Keichousaurus fossil! It’s mind-blowing to consider how vast and ancient our planet's history is. 🌏🦴 And don't miss the fascinating Human Culture Hall! I loved seeing the detailed models of ancient architecture, like the multi-story wooden pagodas—a true testament to human ingenuity through the ages. The whole place is beautifully designed and highly interactive. Whether you're a science enthusiast, a history buff, or you're just looking for a fantastic family day out, this museum is a must-visit. You’ll need a few hours, minimum, to cover just the highlights! A truly enriching and educational experience. 💯📚
Lifeooferic — Google review
Excellent ‘Earth’s Treasures’ exhibition on minerals! A must visit for any crystal & mineral lovers 💕 3 floors of endless specimen including giant stalagmite & rare meteorites! There are other halls filled with science & historical artifacts as well. Consider to spend half a day to appreciate the spectacular displays put up by the curators, it will sure to take your breath away! 👏👏
Lenny P — Google review
Fascinating dinosaur exhibition. Sounds and movements included. Plus many more sections about the origin and development of the human species. When we arrived just before the ticket gate an older lady approached us telling us that because it was Friday and we appeared to be seniors that it was FREE. She took us to the ticket gate and we were in. Thank you lady you made Taichung proud. Thank you Taichung a city of so many kind and helpful people.
Jean L — Google review
We really enjoyed the various displays and the price to enter is very reasonable. We especially liked the limited time exhibit on drug use, where famous paintings were altered to include drug health effects and paraphernalia. Very well done exhibits.
Mystery P — Google review
I maybe got there at the wrong time as it was packed. You could spend a lot longer there if you have kids, we spent 90 mins and only saw a low percentage of what was on offer. Very educational and you are never to old to learn something new or add to your knowledge.

Miyahara

Confectionery store
Miyahara is a renowned ice cream parlor located in a beautifully restored historic building with a rich past. Once an ophthalmology clinic during the Japanese colonial period, it later served as a health clinic before falling into disrepair. Today, it houses Dawn Cake, famous for its pineapple cakes and sweet treats. The elegant space features original red brick walls and archways, offering specialty ice cream flavors like kumquat lime and Sri Lankan black tea.
They were not just a dessert shop, it’s a full sensory experience. Nestled in a beautifully preserved historic building with a dramatic, almost Harry Potter-like interior, they delivered both visual splendor and culinary delight. The ice cream was a masterpiece in both presentation and taste. Served in a delicate waffle bowl, it came adorned with an array of handmade toppings: mini pineapple cake and a charming butterfly cookie. The gelatos were vibrant and packed with flavor—mango, passion fruit, grape, and pistachio. Each scoop was dense, refreshing, and full of real ingredients. The pineapple cake added a contrast, and the decorative cookie gave a fun crunch. It’s not just dessert, it’s an edible artwork😍
Yasuやす — Google review
Overall, an enjoyable place with delicious ice cream. There is no seating and the ice cream melts quickly when eaten outside. However, to be expected as I’m there at the end of summer. The flavours were very intriguing and many options were available. There is a toppings station next door where you can add toppings of your choice on the ice cream (1 per every scoop). We weren’t offered samples and I believe they don’t do any. While we lingered outside eating, the staff member brought little sample cups of tea and offered them to us. Great service.
Raveen — Google review
What a beautiful place for tourists to buy souvenirs back. The overall concept is interesting where they focused on confectionaries packed in book/CD/nicely drawn design boxes to create the atmosphere of back to the old days. A little pricey for the items but somehow you just have to buy a few back for your friends. We tried a cup of tea which the staff took time to create it. The tea taste was really good with flowery smell and taste. The tapioca pearls were soft. A nice touch to an unsweetened tea. Next visit, will go for the ice cream. Be prepared to stand to savor them.
Sue G — Google review
I always enjoy a nice stop whenever I visit Taichung. Grab yourself an ice cream to cool down in summer. They have lots of really interesting flavors to try, there’s something for everybody. You can also get free toppings when they calm you to get your order. Miyahara itself is an architectural beauty itself too. I stop by just to admire the beauty of the building itself. There’s also lots of nice souvenirs to bring back too. Cookies, fruits, cakes, nuts, candy and much more. The staff are very friendly and can answer all the questions you have.
Eiríkr L — Google review
A Hogwartz-like sweets shop which attracts more visitors than any other shops nearby. It’s pretty cool as you visit but all the items inside are pretty overpriced. There’s a second floor where you can dine in for an afternoon tea or ice cream. Note the minimal spending per person for the sit down restaurant is NT500, including children. We wanted to try the ice cream since that’s what we came for, but the line was wrapped around like you are in Disney. As we were about to give up hope, we heard a staff was walking around the line to offer to-go ice cream tubes (1-serving size). I mean, it is definitely not as fancy as ones you’d get from the counter but we thought for the time we’d saved, it’s worth a try. We got the strawberry, caramel chocolate and mango. They were all delicious! Give it a try if waiting in line isn’t your thing.
E C — Google review
Eye Scream is located behind Miyahara Café, in the same building. The building is right on the riverside, the color is red. Although there was a fairly long line, it moved quickly. As soon as you enter, you pick your ice cream flavors, pay, then choose your toppings — and you’re good to go. The shop looks large from the outside but is actually quite small inside. Ice cream is available in single, double, or triple scoops, and you can also add waffles or a sundae. Toppings are free, but the variety is impressive — not your typical ice cream toppings. There’s a wide selection of ice cream flavors. I went for the Miyahara Special and wanted to try something with coffee. I tried three flavors: • Raisins Mascarpone – This one was good. The raisins added just the right amount of sweetness and tangy taste, and the mascarpone gave it a nice savory balance. Additional NT$10, part of the Miyahara Special. • Honey Cheese – My personal favorite. It had the perfect balance of sweet and salty, making it the tastiest of the three. Additional NT$10, also part of the Miyahara Special. • Tiramisu – This one costs an extra NT$20 and had a strong coffee flavor that made it quite bitter. Personally, I didn’t enjoy it, as I think desserts that are too bitter lose their enjoyment. For toppings, I chose rum raisins and pumpkin seeds. Both were great — the raisins weren’t too dry, and the pumpkin seeds were still crunchy. Despite being free, the toppings were generous. After getting our ice cream, we left right away since there’s no seating available. Unfortunately, you’re not allowed to bring the ice cream into Miyahara Café either — you can only stand about 2–3 meters from the entrance door. For that price, I think they should offer some seating, some benches at terrace/semi-outdoor would make a big diffrence. Especially since ice cream isn’t something you can take home — it has to be eaten right away.
Tessa W — Google review
Miyahara is probably one of the most well known attractions in Taichung. This is a place selling ice cream, tea and merch. There is a flavour for everyone and if you are not interested in eating, you can still get a bubble milk tea.
Aviator C — Google review
Whenever in Taichung, this is a must visit destination. Visited a few times, always enjoyed the experience. From the ice cream parlor to browsing through their souvenir merch to lunches / tea time on the 2nd floor. There's plenty of history here and an immersive experience. The food is actually quite good. Not your typical tourist traps.

Nestled in the heart of Taichung, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts is a vibrant hub for art enthusiasts and families alike. This expansive museum showcases an impressive collection of Taiwanese artworks, emphasizing modern visual arts that reflect the island's unique culture. After undergoing extensive renovations following a devastating earthquake in 1999, it now boasts a stunning interior and exterior design that captivates visitors. The museum features 24 exhibition rooms filled with diverse paintings and sculptures, ensuring there's always something new to discover.
A good, informative, and inspiring collection of artwork. Take your time to explore the different sections of the museum and appreciate the unique pieces on display. Each artwork tells a story—pause, observe, and let it speak to you.

This museum has a huge outdoor space with big installations. So go check out the garden area. The expanse of the building gives a grandeur but modern. The 3rd level was having set up so we didn’t manage to catch the exhibition on one level. No entrance fee so can come in here to enjoy the exhibits.

Really great experience here. Got here about 6pm and went to the cafe. Had the iced peach flavoured fruit tea. Service was great. The tea tasted refreshing and had light peach notes. Once finished, went to the first floor entrance for the art exhibition. It is free entry and it was so nice to walk around and admire the beautiful art on display. I would definitely recommend a visit to this magnificent art museum.

Really nice art museum. Especially the "ROC art competition" they exhibit and host is a really interesting window into the contemporary art scene. The architecture is great and I believe the entry was free. So no reason not to check it out!

I really enjoyed this art museum. The permanent collection takes you on a tour through Taiwanese art, from Chinese influence, to Japanese influence, to western influence, to the unique style. The exhibition space on the first floor was also great. Nice gift shop too!

Great art museum. Definitely worth going in Taichung, especially it’s free. Many works are part of submissions to competitions and are done in various mediums. The art is immensely well done with skill and beauty.
Samuel T — Google review
The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung was a rewarding stop during my trip. The building is large and modern, with generous open spaces and natural light that make it easy to navigate and pleasant to explore. One of the highlights was the Liao Shiou Ping retrospective exhibition, which offered an insightful journey through the works of one of Taiwan’s most influential modern artists. The curation was clean and balanced, with vibrant prints and mixed media pieces that showed the range and depth of his work. It was genuinely interesting and gave context to how Taiwanese contemporary art evolved through global influences. Outside, the sculpture park wraps around the museum in a wide green space, dotted with installations and contemporary pieces. Though not particularly dense, it adds a leisurely dimension to the visit and makes the whole experience feel more relaxed and open. The museum is free to enter and not overly crowded, which made it easy to take my time. It may not have the blockbuster feel of major international galleries, but it holds its own with thoughtful exhibitions and a calm, well-designed setting. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Taichung and enjoy contemporary art.

One of the most beautiful parks in Taichung, it is quite spacious with a lake in the center and various facilities such as restrooms and a playground. There is also a bridge 👍🏻 There are quite a lot of animals here, such as birds, squirrels, and fish 🐹🐦🪿🐶🐱🐟 It is very child-friendly and accessible for people in wheelchairs. One of the recreational spots I highly recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A great park in the heart of the city, within walking distance from Taichung Main Train Station. There are various walkways, making it enjoyable to roam freely among the trees, near the lake, among rest areas and numerous artworks. It feels full of hidden spots and shady areas to relax or hide. You can also easily spot squirrels, which kids will love. The park has clean toilets, and it's also a pleasant place for pet owners to take a walk.

Safe green haven in the frenzy city. Lovely place to chill and relax, possibly tasting some snacks, delicious street food / fried chicken whatever, Taichung has wide choice. Just sit in the shade, feed the birds, look the squirrels, enjoy the lake, read a book, to recover your mood

Free and beautiful park here. Many people picnic and rest here. While there is some live in the evening, nearby the night market. So, worth to walk around to explore here.

After we checked into a nearby hotel and before our dinner, we took a stroll here in the park. It was a weekend and there was an activity going on in the park for kids, it was unusual busy. The park was beautiful.

This place never fails. We usually go to the one at Tianmu but just realized there is the original shop near our hotel. What a treat! We came here for breakfast to try their special breakfast set. I love their hot tea. Simply smooth and warms you up instantly. How I wish I can have the same back home. We ordered our usual, the collage noodles, Dan Dan noodles, shrimp siumai, stir fry sweet potato leaves and tofu skin with enoki. Overall was good. But somehow I prefer ten ren’s dishes. Maybe my taste bud affected due to my flu. It was still a good experience. Am glad we managed to make it here for a nice treat.

Nice decor and plenty of seating when we visited. Would be great if the menu had pictures for non-native speakers. Food came out fast and looked good. Side dishes were tasty, noodles were just okay, but the bubble tea and drinks were really good.

I was very excited to try Bubble Tea at the origin place of its creation and when I arrived to Taichung, it was one of the only places open until later in the evening to visit. I ordered the small classic Bubble Tea, Chili Sesame DanDan Noodles, and the fried Radish Cakes (I was so hungry, I ate them before I could take a picture). The standout dishes were the sesame DanDan noodles and radish cakes. I actually felt quite disappointed in the bubble tea - it is expensive and contains more ice than tea which does not match the price point. I also felt that it had less flavor than the tea I have bought at 50 lab or in the night markets which was only 55NT compared to 120NT. I would recommend clarifying how much ice or sugar you want in advance to ensure that the quality is to your liking. The atmosphere of the restaurant was really peaceful and lively. There were posters depicting the history of the creative tea-making process and guided courses on how to make Bubble Tea at home. I recommend going for the aesthetic and historical experience - do not get your hopes too high for the best boba of your life. Night stalls are the best for this!

Their milk tea is served in pint glasses, as if they are selling beer. As a result, my insulin level had a wild day. They also offer small hot dishes/ snacks that honestly taste better than their milk tea. Minus point for the long queuing time even on a weekday.

Came here around 6pm and had a queue of around 15 minutes wait time. The restaurant itself is quite tidy and if you happen to sit next to the right side of the restaurant. There is some bubble tea trivia which is quite fun to read. As for food, we ordered various dish, all came out quite good. I really like the sesame dandan noodles. Veges and the fried chicken also pretty good. The main star of course is the bubble tea and it has really good flavour and the boba is small size which apparently they kept to the original recipe. It doesnt get stuck in the straw at all. Overall experience very good, we will definitely be back if not this branch, then some other branch.

921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan

Museum
Science museum
The 921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan is a national museum dedicated to preserving the memory of the devastating 7.3 magnitude earthquake that hit central Taiwan in 1999. This earthquake resulted in significant loss of life and property damage, making it one of the worst natural disasters in Taiwan's history. The museum features exhibits and programs that document the impact of the earthquake, showcasing debris from collapsed buildings, fault line shifts, and other remnants from the disaster.
The museum is both informative and overwhelmingly shocking. You’ll get to experience the simulation of the 7.3 magnitude earthquake, and if you have never experienced one, you may be surprised. If you have, then it’s triggering. The museum should definitely include trigger warning, however, you know what you signed up for. You can see the collapsed building from the main road.
Vivian E — Google review
This is a hidden gem ! I’d never heard of the museum before because I live in Taipei. My parents were visiting in August. We were staying at Sun Moon Lake and I was looking for places to go and found it on google maps! It was spectacular! Super interesting! I can’t believe how well they’ve preserved the damaged school and built a museum around it. Amazing. I learned a lot that day. My parents were happy because they got free entry for over 65. Fascinating. The students of the school were so lucky that it occurred in the middle of the night! We also tried the earthquake simulator! Awesome! Thanks for a great day out !!!
Ian S — Google review
It’s a truly eye-opening museum that powerfully illustrates the massive destruction caused along the fault line, particularly evident in the damaged school and its sports field. The exhibition is both educational and engaging, but the highlight is definitely the earthquake simulation. It’s far more impactful than similar experiences offered by major science museums around the world. Definitely worth a visit to better understand earthquakes and their devastating effects.
Martin C — Google review
Great place to learn about the 921 earthquake in Taiwan, and how Taiwan adapted in learning about earthquake preparedness as a result afterwards. The kids had a great time in the earthquake stimulator (which I recommend purchasing the tickets immediately after entering the museum since it sells out quick). If you’re in the area, definitely worth a visit!
E C — Google review
The earthquake Museum had some surprises for me. The earthquake Simulation was for sure the most exciting part because I didn't experience any before. The setup is very simple but it gives you an idea how scary it can become in real life. The whole ground shows an original old school including the schoolyard, that was destroyed by an earthquake in 1999. In different buildings you find a lot information presented in an engaging way for children and adults. It shows the shocking history, the stories of people who helped in 1999, but also how everyone learned from it and improved the desaster prevention. Absolutely worth it. I also loved the pictures in the small gallery. There are 2 entrances. A reservation for the simulation might be necessary on weekend and public holidays. The visit is also very nice in combination with the aboriginal village nearby.
Gunnar L — Google review
Allow yourself time to immerse properly and you'll experience all sorts of emotions. It was scary to see just how traumatic this earthquake would've been for so many people. The experience simulation was interesting, but a lot of the exhibits here are heavily catered to children and school groups so you'll find yourself skipping most of it.
Kiel ( — Google review
Very nice experience. The museum is nice and interesting especially for someone who finds architecture/engineering interesting. Its also suitable for children with alot of games and noob friendly explanations. The earthquake simulation is highly recommended. Entrance Tickets plus simulation is about 70 Taiwanese dollars.
Mohannad E — Google review
Come here to see the preserved aftermath of the 1999 earthquake. Seeing pictures of any devastation is not like seeng a crumpled school building in person. A ways away but interesting. 3/4 of the exhibit was actually in English (by the end of the exhibit, i think the translator gave up, as it was only in Chinese!). Exhibit is mostly in the shade or inside the AC buildings. Plenty of clean restrooms throughout the tour. Note: if you're mapping directions or taking Uber, make sure you're going to the 921 Earthquake museum and not the 921 Earthquake Memorial Park, which is over 20 minutes away.

Taichung Second Market

Mentioned on
4 lists
Traditional market
Taichung Second Market is an indoor market that has been around since the Japanese Colonial Era, serving as a trading hub for various commodities. Today, it's a popular spot for both locals and tourists to enjoy delicious local food during the day. The market offers a variety of traditional dishes such as Braised Minced Pork Rice, soup noodles, dry noodles, Japanese cuisine, sweet tofu, and tapioca desserts.
Old and dated market with couple souvenir, fruit, clothing, etc… along outside of the market. Most food stalls are in the middle and one side of the market. Good place to eat locals food for great price.
T N — Google review
Personally I like this market. It’s always been a thing for me to visit the local market to have a good feel of their lifestyle. I find the market a unique experience for me. You can find what you would normally find it a market. There’s also plenty of food options available. I’ve tried braised pork rice and sashimi. I think it really got a good CP value. Should I return to Taichung again, I would probably visit this again as well as giving myself more time to explore surrounding neighbourhood.
Evelyn B — Google review
This market is as traditional and authentic as it gets. 😍 This is definitely a one-stop shop for tourists as well as locals to come and get everything they need, from produce and vegetables all the way to good food. The establishments that receive good reviews for their amazing dishes will not disappoint. I think coming here is definitely a pit stop for those who are in Taichung for a short period to indulge in a foodie haven. Explore every nook and cranny you can, and the ones that garner a long queue will not disappoint.

For a rainy a Sunday, it was just ok. Many vendors were closed. The busiest stalls were the food vendors. There is definitely a lot of variety. One area had the heavy smell of urine right by a number of the eateries. It didn’t seem very touristy as the prices were reasonable. Compared to the Sixth Market, this is not a fancy place. Set your expectations as low as possible.
Tony L — Google review
Not your typical night market. More like a traditional market. Can be wet and slippery. It’s a round in case you get lost. There is a beverage stall there that sells red tea and all. The tea may be too sweet for us, non-locals. 😆 can try their kind of breakfast, yam cake with egg. I feel can give it a miss and try other breakfast spots.

One of the better markets with food and retail shops. We love the list of must try food next to the toilet. Lots of things to see and eat. Much better place than Third Market.

Everything from house slippers and clothing, to fresh meats and a good selection of fresh vegetables and fruits from various vendors. Quite a good market to visit for practical necessities, and prices are competitive. Cash only at most places vendor stands. There are also a lot of food stalls where you can order food to eat there, of course, and a public restroom.

Fengchia Night Market

Miyahara

Mentioned on

魯肉飯 Braised Pork Rice = TWD30 (S$1.50) 鼎旺豬腳 Braised Pork Trotters = TWD90 (S$4.00) No Service Charges This is a Michelin Rated Eatery at a Busy Traffic Junction and Officially Opens at 11.00am. As of 10.56am on a Weekday when I was there, there were already at least 6 People in Queue.  Not Tourists mind you, but Locals. Staffs are Very Friendly and Polite.  When I was taking photo of the Order Chit, one of the Staffs even took the Initiative to pass me a Even Bigger Menu that has Pictures of the Actual Dishes on it. 魯肉飯 Braised Pork Rice = TWD30 (S$1.50) 鼎旺豬腳 Braised Pork Trotters = TWD90 (S$4.00) Due to Text Limit Constraints, I won't go into details describing every Ingredient here. If you are interested to know more, come visit my Facebook Food Blog: "A Solo Singaporean's Guide to JB Foods (And More!)" to view the Full Review with Photos. Conclusion and Closing Thoughts At the Price of TWD30 (S$1.50) for the 魯肉飯, it was Affordable, but you need to have Realistic Expectations that the Taste of this Dish is not going to blow you away.  If you break it down, its just a Small Bowl of Rice with 1 Tablespoon of Chopped Up Braised Pork Belly lum with Braised Sauce. In fact, the More I ate 魯肉飯, the More I felt, this probably originated as a Poor People Food.  I can totally see its Origins as People in the Past who couldn't afford to buy alot of Meat, so instead just buying some Cheap Meat Scraps, Braising them and eating just abit of them paired with Rice.  I'm not sure if this is the Exact History of how this Dish came about, but it really sure feels that way due to how little Meat there was. At the Price of TWD90 (S$4.00) for 2 Pieces of 鼎旺豬腳 Pork Trotters, they were Tasty, but I didn't feel it was Particularly Affordable since there were only 2 Pieces of it. As Good and Soft Melt in the Mouth as the Pork Skin, Fat and Meats were, there were not alot of them actually. I thought just 2 Pieces of Trotters felt kindda Expensive for the Price. I like this Place, the Food is Tasty, Staffs are Friendly and Polite and I have Zero Issues with it. I just feel it is really not necessary to take the Time and Effort to really come to this Particular Eatery just to eat it.  I feel this tastes just like any 魯肉飯 out there.  A Good Tasting 魯肉飯, but ultimately still just a Regular 魯肉飯. A definite highlight of our trip to Taichung. Singapore has pig’s trotters as well. Done differently. But the ones here are uniquely delicious. We ordered the trotters, the sliced pork, a noodle and a classic lourou fan. Absolutely delicious. There are so few seats around, but I guess that adds to the vibes. While the exterior has taken a modern, renovated twist, they have managed to retain enough of an old school feel to the place. Would come back just for this.

I ordered pig trotter 便當 and it came with tofu and bamboo shoots. I was about 1.5x the price I tried at another stall in 台中. Taste-wise was alright, not too salty. Rich in collagen.

Tex-Mex restaurant
American restaurant
Smokey Joe’s is a popular American-style barbecue restaurant in Taichung, offering classic dishes like pulled pork, brisket, and ribs along with sides such as coleslaw and mac and cheese. The portions are generous and reasonably priced, making it a favorite among locals and visitors. The casual interior features wooden furniture and vintage decor, creating a laid-back atmosphere. The restaurant is also known for its beautifully designed theme space adorned with vintage bric-a-brac.
Good ambiance and nice food! Smokey Joe’s is a fantastic spot for anyone who loves bold, smoky flavors and hearty portions. From the moment you walk in, the inviting aroma of grilled meats sets the tone for a great dining experience. I tried their grilled meats, and they were absolutely tender, juicy, and packed with rich BBQ flavor. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable for the quality of food you get. The service was also top-notch! The staff was friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations. The ambiance is perfect for both casual hangouts and special occasions. If you’re looking for authentic, smoky, and delicious BBQ in Taichung, Smokey Joe’s is the place to go! #SmokeyJoes #FoodieFavorite

We searched online for a notable place to dine at Taichung and Smokey Joes pop out. When we first entered the restaurant, the service was sharp and swift, however, once we sat at our table for ordering then came the issues. We were quickly rushed to order and i understand that it was supposedly to be the last order but we adhere to the limitations they presented to us (of ordering before 8pm). But the waitress assigned to us kept pestering us and even standing at the table side awaiting our order even though we werent ready, which I think its pretty rude. We also informed her that we would like all onions and parsley to not be mixed into the dishes due to my girlfriend’s dietary restrictions, but she somehow seemed confused by the request. We ordered the corn soup with shrimp, potato and cheese, pulled pork sliders, chicken fajita, squid spaghetti. The corn soup with shrimp and potato & cheese was pretty good. The pulled pork sliders also delivered its flavors however the coleslaw (which came full of onions) that came together was honestly disgusting. The fajita still had parsley sprinkled on top of it, the chicken was good just that the fact that parsley was still added onto it was negligent. THE SQUID INK SPAGHETTI WAS SO BAD. We couldn’t even finish it. There was no taste whatsoever and the squid was way too salty. We were given 90mins to dine but the staff also started clearing everything and cleaning up near our table while we were still dining which was not professional at all. Overall, the dining experience was disappointing.

Nice ambience and friendly staff. But dining time is an issue. Before we finish our meal they are rushing to close and start sweeping the floor. Nevertheless, the varieties of food is wide and has many choices. Some recipe is concocted and may not be the truly traditional European recipe. Overall quite enjoyable meal.

Out of all the American–Mexican restaurants we’ve been to in Taichung, this one’s among the more authentic ones. The essentials — sour cream, salsa, tortillas, and quesadillas — were all solid, and the pasta and pizza leaned more American-style. Service was quick, and we appreciated that the food didn’t leave us feeling dehydrated, which suggests they don’t overuse MSG. The only major downside was the presence of some small mosquitoes. On the bright side, the staff spoke English, which was a nice surprise. 😇

With such a diverse food scene that Taichung has to offer, Smokey Joe’s definitely tops the list of must have visits! The staff was so friendly and welcoming and the menu choice offered lots of variety from vegetarian to amazing gourmet burgers! As a returning customer, I can’t wait to visit you guys again soon! Thanks for your service! ☺️

Had the 2-person set: Fruit sparkler & Orange tea were nice. Chicken quesadilla was crunchy, but very little contents inside. Taste 7/10, value 4/10. Spaghetti w/pulled pork had nice smokey flavor 8/10. The pulled pork meat itself was just OK. Mushroom risotto didn't have as much flavor as the spaghetti., but was still alright 6/10. Brownie w/ large scoop of ice cream was nice 7/10. Overall, bill was just under 1500 for the set, after 10% service charge. Definitely could eat better around the city for the price. Wanted to try it out based on curiosity and photos of place. If you're from the U.S., there is nothing special about the experience or food. Can get better food for less price. But if you want to give your local friends, especially a group, a decent taste of American type food and fun decor for photo taking, with slightly discounted meal set prices, this would be worth it once.

We each had a burger, with a Banana Chocolate milkshake. Good burger, fries were great and quite full after dinner.

Simply amazing decor. Food was great. The mozzarella burger was great and filling. The iced coffee, while expensive, was delicious. Chocolate cake was amazing, and the sea salt accentuates the dark chocolate. All in all, this is now one of, if not my favorite, restaurant in Taichung. Also, a great place if you have kids.

BeMo's is a casual eatery that offers a diverse selection of wraps from around the world, along with soups and salads. It's an ideal choice for those craving comforting Mexican-style food, as they offer a wide variety of wraps with international flavors. The ingredients used in their fillings are fresh and well-prepared, ensuring high-quality and flavorful dishes. Customers can enjoy options like Greek, Thai, Mexican, Masala, BBQ Pork, Mediterranean wraps and more.
I prefer eating burrito rather than eating taco. Fillings, condiments and garnish might spread out or even scattered all over the place while eating taco. Damn, I love their burritos so much, premium taste and quality❤️💯👍

wow indian burrito was amazing 9/10 this mediterranean burrito was so so bad like 3/10 - me and my roommate josh had it and we both thought it was disgusting josh said "this was the worst meal i had in taiwan" - we've lived here for 50 days almost 150 meals - this was the ONLY bad food we had truly please do not order the Mediterranean wrap. PLEASE DO ORDER THE INDIAN WRAP - the indian wrap was actually good. I would love to support this business and come again to try the Indian wrap.

I am not from a country that has a history with Mexican food but I really enjoyed my wrap and did my husband who is from America and is tremendously fussy about his Mexican food. We both enjoyed our wraps. The wraps were were healthy and made with fresh produce. It is challenging to find quality Mexican food in Taiwan but this is definitely worth it. Also my husband who has a hearty appetite was satisfied from one serving and I was famished.

Kent M — Google review
The first time I went, last week, I had the Caesar wrap, tomato soup, chicken soup, and Greek salad. The salad was really to my liking so I practically inhaled it. The wrap was delish too. I didn't like the tomato soup as there was a strong tomato paste flavor and the spices really clashed with each other. I liked the chicken soup though, but TBH it tasted like Campbell's chicken soup; perhaps the broth was from a can or was from a bouillon but I'm pretty sure that the macaroni & veggies were homemade. I liked the food so much that visited several days later. Unfortunately, I really didn't like the Greek wrap that I ordered the second time. The chicken was extremely dry, there weren't enough sauce, and the flavors really didn't go well together. I had the homemade chocolate chip cookies today. They didn't taste like they were made from scratch; they tasted rather "generic", they actually tasted really similar to the ones I sometimes make from a Marie Calendar pouch ~ just saying... A small Caesar wrap costs around $110, it's pretty small and not filling while a large Greek wrap costs about $180. A small soup can be purchased for about $45 and a small homemade drink can be purchased for about $20. So an average, not too filling, meal will cost about $175.

Jerry's House 澳洲經典料理 offers a delightful dining experience for brunch, lunch, or dinner. The restaurant serves up Australian fusion cuisine with a diverse menu featuring crispy chicken and burgers cooked to order. Despite its unassuming exterior, the interior reveals a spacious restaurant with chic decor. Guests can expect friendly staff and delicious dishes such as the finger-licking peanut butter beef burger, which may sound unusual but delivers an amazing taste.
Everything we ordered was awesome!! Taste, quantity, quality…just awesome! Especially the avocado bacon pancake, it’s totally spot on!!

Restaurant: Jerry’s House I have been fancying this brunch store for a while and today I had a chance to check it out. FOOD: My friend and I ordered: 1) Jerry’s Omelette: It comes with French Fries. This was my friend’s dish and I had a bite and I did like it. There are a lot of flavours in it: like some sweet potatoes and spicy. My friend didn’t like it, but I did. 2) Jerry’s Steak Sandwich: It was amazing with avocado, cheese, beef and the bread was crunch. It also comes with French Fries. 3) 冰拿鐵和紅茶: Both nothing special. 4) Banana Bread and Ice Cream: There were also banana and strawberries. It was good because not too sweet but definitely an unique dessert. MENU: They have English and Chinese Menu. But Chinese menu is better because there are some pictures which help us to choose better. I even changed my mind after looking the picture in the Chinese Menu. SERVICE: Average. PRICE: 1066 NTD - 兩位 EXTRA POINTS: 1) You can see the kitchen and all the staff preparing your meal. That’s cool. 2) Even if you go during weekdays, book a table in advanced. And I went today on Wednesday noon and it had a small line.

October 3, 2020: I came for another meal and it was equally creative, fun, and yummy as the previous times. I had the Salmon, Avocado, and Cheese Burger served with crispy chips and it was excellent. The service is friendly and the ambience relaxing and inviting.

Overpriced brunch place, just like any other brunch cafes in the Shizheng area. Food was good, I especially like their pancakes. Skip the sundae, it was recommended but it couldn't have been more ordinary. I also don't see how an eggs benedict is "Australian" (or any of the sets we have ordered, for that matter). Was it the ingredient? The layout? The decor? I dunno. Maybe the toilet, it did smell a little outback, ha! Service was quick and good, even cleaning up was lightning fast. We didn't even have a fork left to finish our leftover salad, lol. But the staff were more than happy to serve us more cutleries. Was pretty crowded during lunchtime, advance booking is recommended.

One of best and cozy brunch restaurant in Taichung. Owner got certificates of Le Cordon Bleu which proven the food will be great. We tried beef burger and lemon seafood pasta. Both were excellent flavor especially pasta. Perfect Fryed with lemon flavor was super matching. Service is slightly above average but they don't charge service fee. So, can't expect more. Price is very reasonable based on this quality. Overall, I love this restaurant and love to come back more often. If you think my review is useful, please give me a like or following me.

Yakiniku restaurant
Restaurant
"俺達の肉屋 日本和牛燒肉店" is a renowned restaurant that specializes in serving freshly cut wagyu beef and traditional Japanese dishes, complemented by a selection of beer and wine. The establishment is known for offering high-quality cuts of meat that are tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Guests have the option to choose set meals or seek recommendations from the attentive servers based on their preferences for leaner or more marbled cuts.
The rice bowl, drinks, high quality cuts of meat and the beef soup finish. We loved it all. There’s no good way to describe the experience that will do this restaurant justice. We ate at a popular steakhouse in Taipei the night before and this experience came across more memorable. Each bite is perfectly curated and expertly cooked table side by the staff. We had an amazing experience where the conversation felt like we were among friends. Our servers were happy to provide recommendations of Taichung and share their own preferences for the meal. My mandarin is at an elementary vocabulary level but they were extremely patient and attempted to describe each cut and the ideal pairing before eating it. The drinks were a nice reminder of our trips to Japan where we could order highballs or shochu sours in different flavors. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and I hope we get to experience this again.

The atmosphere is great, and meat quality is good, there’s a waitress with professional skill of barbecue and served you everything, need to try once when you in Taichung.
Chris C — Google review
The dining experience here is quite questionable, and I think it is overrated. The quality of the meat seems great, without a doubt, but it was not as good as they claim; it was only good for picture ,not for taste. It was flavorless, quite oily, and even a bit sour for the soup. We expected more from a place that was awarded by Michelin. It was hard to appreciate the texture and layers of the meat, and the arrangement of the dishes made the experience even worse, easily getting full because of too much oil and feeling tired of continuing this meal. It was a wise decision to serve such small portions, as it's hard to develop a desire for more bites. The seats here are small and limited, which is understandable, but since it's a barbecue place, it makes air circulation difficult. The servers are good, but it seems not all of them are well trained. There were a few times they did not introduce the dish to us without our asking, and they seemed don’t have much enthusiasm for this job. I have had a few experiences of having Japanese barbecue at this price in Taiwan and even in a few countries. As the place is recognized by Michelin, we had high expectations and had been looking forward to it for a while. However, after this meal, we felt lost and empty, confused about what we had been eating and why we were here. Overall, it was quite disappointing, and I would recommend going to another place at this price to gain a better, more exclusive experience. It's just not worth it here!
Kn — Google review
Great cuts. Tender, juicy, full of flavor. The cuts are presented first then prepared after your camera takes the first bite. Do the set meals if you're not sure what to order or tell the servers what type of cuts you prefer (leaner/more marbled, etc). Service was phenomenal. Each time providing what cut they're cooking at the moment, texture, flavor profile and suggested dipping sauce. What stood out the most was noticing my friend didn't eat all of the meat from some of the cuts due to the thick tendon. They apologized in the end and provided other cuts free of charge.

Really impressed with the experience. The meat cuts were carefully chosen and thoughtfully prepared. The staff were friendly and explained clearly in English where each cut came from and its origins. We left feeling satisfied and full.

This way exceeds my expectation. 1 star Michelin. The shop is nicely renovated and we got seated at level 1, right next to the kitchen. The staff will explain how to order, either set for 2x or ala carte. Ordered the set since this is my first time and the staff will grill on behalf. Food: 1. 5/5 First came the 2 assorted starters which are the marinated/preserved veg. It’s nice on its own. 2. 5/5 raw beef with egg 3. 3/5 kurobuta fats mix with rice with raw egg 4. 5/5 beef tongue (thin cut). This is seriously good with just pinch of lemon and without sauces. The boss explained the cut and how he adapt to asians liking. Not chewy and very tender. 5. 5/5 5 cuts. One of the cut texture is like aburi toro. Fatty and textured. 6. 5/5 assorted veg. Seriously juicy and very fresh. 7. 5/5 fillet mignon. The way they prepared, searing it twice and wrapping in aluminium foil to let the internal cook, it’s beautifully cooked. It’s served with salt marinated pepper seed. Crazy good. 8. 5/5 soup. The soup is beefy and clears the oil in the mouth. The small piece of tongue meat is so tender. Overall, this has to be my best Yakiniku experience, both the quality of the food as well as how the boss and staff will explain and expertly cook the meats. This truly deserves a one star.
Isaac H — Google review
To sum up: Food and service are ok. However, this is ruined. The atmosphere is terrible, it’s extremely loud, the table and setting are very small and overall it’s just really uncomfortable. I would not go here anymore.

Japanese Wagyu beef, often touted as the epitome of culinary excellence, is a gastronomic treasure that transcends ordinary beef. With its unparalleled marbling, melt-in-your-mouth texture, and rich umami flavor, it's a dining experience that leaves an indelible mark on the palate and the soul. The defining characteristic of Japanese Wagyu is its mesmerizing marbling pattern. The intricate web of fine fat veins that crisscross through the meat is a testament to the meticulous care and breeding that goes into producing this delicacy. It's this marbling that sets Japanese Wagyu apart from any other beef in the world. As the beef cooks, these fat veins slowly render, infusing the meat with an unrivaled succulence and flavor. When it comes to texture, Japanese Wagyu is a revelation. Each bite is an exquisite journey as your teeth effortlessly glide through the meat, releasing a cascade of flavors. The meat practically dissolves in your mouth, leaving behind a buttery sensation that's unlike anything you've ever experienced with beef. This remarkable tenderness is the result of the high fat content distributed throughout the muscle fibers, creating a velvety texture that is second to none. But it's not just the texture that elevates Japanese Wagyu; it's the flavor profile that truly sets it apart. Wagyu beef is renowned for its intense umami, the fifth taste sensation often described as savory and mouthwatering. Every morsel of Japanese Wagyu is a symphony of flavors, a harmonious blend of savory, sweet, and nutty notes. It's a flavor that lingers on the palate, beckoning you to savor each bite and relish the complexity of the experience. The cooking process itself is a crucial part of the Wagyu journey. Many purists believe that the best way to prepare this delicacy is to keep it simple. A light seasoning of salt and pepper is often all that's required to enhance the natural flavors of the beef. Whether seared in a hot skillet, grilled over open flames, or cooked to perfection sous-vide, the goal is to preserve the inherent qualities of the meat while achieving the desired level of doneness. Japanese Wagyu's versatility in the kitchen is another reason for its popularity. While it's a true delight when enjoyed in its purest form, it also shines in a variety of culinary applications. Thinly sliced, it's ideal for sukiyaki or shabu-shabu, where the beef is briefly swirled in simmering broth, allowing its flavors to meld with the surrounding ingredients. It's also a star in sushi and sashimi, where its delicate texture and marbling make for an unforgettable sushi experience. When it comes to dining on Japanese Wagyu, the experience is not just about the meal itself; it's a journey into the heart of Japanese culinary culture. It's a reflection of the Japanese dedication to precision and craftsmanship, as well as a deep respect for the ingredients and their natural flavors. Dining on Japanese Wagyu is an opportunity to appreciate the artistry of the country's ranchers and chefs, who work tirelessly to produce and prepare this exceptional beef. Japanese Wagyu beef is a culinary masterpiece that transcends the boundaries of ordinary dining. Its marbling, texture, and flavor are unparalleled, offering a sensory experience that lingers in the memory long after the last bite. When you savor Japanese Wagyu, you're not just enjoying a meal; you're embarking on a gastronomic journey that celebrates the artistry and craftsmanship of Japan's culinary heritage. It's a testament to the idea that food can be not just sustenance but a profound and unforgettable experience for the senses.

The high ceilings of the dining room create a sense of spaciousness, adorned with pottery and sculptures by renowned masters. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow natural light to fill the space, providing views of pine trees outside. The restaurant features new seasonal dishes and offers private dining rooms on the second floor for business banquets or large gatherings with friends and family.
Can’t fault anything here to be honest, food, service and the environment are all 5 out of 5. The highlight for us was the duck - crispy skin ( no meat) wrapped in thin pancake with the hoisin sauce and battens of cucumber and spring onion whites, it’s top quality! The remaining meat was chopped and served separately, duck carcass was made into a soup dish with taro and rice vermicelli- delicious! Service was attentive and elegant. Better than starred restaurant. Highly recommend.

Having been to many Cantonese restaurants in various cities (outside of Taiwan), this one is good but not stellar, and I feel doesn't justify the very high price. The Peking duck was good. The chef paid detailed attention when carving it up, and even carved away the thin layer of fat underneath the skin. I have not seen that done in other restaurants. So that's a plus. Vegetables, as you can see, is just... A plate of vegetables. No plating or presentation here. The jellyfish cold starter dish we ordered was the same. Looked like it came off a buffet table. Diced beef dish was good. Very tender. Service was attentive. But we were given the bill without having asked for it, which seemed brash. When we inquired, we were also told there is no dessert on the house, not even a red bean soup, which is common in even mid range Cantonese restaurants. The restaurant and atmosphere itself was nice. This restaurant seems to cater to wedding banquets, company dinners, and otherwise big spenders who prefer a nice atmosphere, but not to those who truly care about having the best food.
Jason Y — Google review
Service was subpar in my opinion when it says it is a “頂級” (top) restaurant. We were just given the bill when we still had food on the table. We were NOT asked if we wanted dessert, NOT asked if we need to pack anything away. Lastly, we need to go to the reception area to pay for the bill if we need to pay by credit card. Food was very average (it’s ok if you crave for Cantonese food but it is nowhere near a top notched quality restaurant). Roast duck was ok but the one we had at Yilan was better. It cost over $2300 TWD for the duck. This was just an average quality Peking duck that we could have at home but at a higher price. We ordered a jellyfish appetizer, veggie dish and diced beef dish. The presentation of two dishes (veggie and jellyfish) looked like food court style where they just scoop out the food and place on the dish (see pictures). I even took a screenshot of what they show on their menu for the jellyfish dish. Also, we were charged for tea $60 NTD person which I never experienced at a Cantonese restaurant unless it was for lunch. Do not recommend this place.

Just one word, perfect. The restaurant is well placed and deserved with a car parking. Decoration is nice with a good mix of contenporan and traditional, what a great introduction of what will come next in the plates. Then the menu offers cantonese food perfectly cooked. Been there a few times and the food presentation and the service is always perfect. However, it’s on a very pricy side. Flavour wise can be hit and miss. Some great some not so great. Used to love their 稻草西施牛 with a hint of grassy taste. Yet this time it doesn’t seem to have incorporated the flavour enough … Duck is amazing but single duck won’t get you many pieces. Unlike other places they will reserve the remaining meat and no 鴨鬆 to order.

Good enough that I went twice in two weeks! An upscale and modern interpretation of classic Cantonese dishes. Must order dishes include XO醬白花油條、roast duck, and the wonton chicken soup. Dim sum dishes are all exquisitely executed. Be sure to book early for dinner but if you’re planning to go for lunch, there usually isn’t a max rush for tables.

The airport is known for its friendly staff and a range of free services at the help desk, including umbrellas, weather updates, and transportation arrangements. Despite being small and compact, the airport is well-maintained and provides a pleasant experience for visitors.
A great experience every time. From the parking lot attendant (extremely welcoming and friendly, opened the gate for me immediately and the cost is only NT20 per day for scooters or NT100 per day for cars. The Uni Air staff was extraordinarily friendly, accommodating, informative, and helpful with every request. There's a help desk which offers a staggering number of free services (free umbrellas if needed, weather and fight updates, arrangements for transportation, etc.). The security checkpoint is handled in a very professional manner, and very efficiently. The safety and security is outstanding, with triple checks of identity and boarding passes. Taichung International Airport

International airport
Transportation
Taichung International Airport is located in a city with a population of 2.8 million, making it the third largest in Taiwan. To reach the airport from Taoyuan International Airport, passengers can take a shuttle bus to THSR Taoyuan Station, then transfer to THSR Taichung Station and finally take Nantou Bus to Qingjing Farm. The journey takes approximately 2 hours and costs around NT$262 per person.
⭐⭐⭐I have taken a flight to Kinmen once before. The airport in Taichung has domestic and international flights✈️✈️✈️. Most of them take international flights to the outer islands of Taiwan and the international terminal. The airport lobby is clean and bright, and you can feel the care taken by the airport staff in maintaining it. To get to the bus station or take a taxi, you need to walk to the parking lot outside the terminal. The currency exchange bank, ambulance station and other facilities next to the lobby are quite complete. There are restaurants and convenience stores inside such as Laerfu, so there are not many choices for the whole family. 🏝️🏝️🏝️ At present, the routes of Taichung Airport are gradually expanding, and the ticket counters of international airlines have even been moved to the side of domestic flights. More routes and flights should be added in the future. However, the current external transportation at the airport is not convenient. In addition to driving, picking up and dropping off, and taking taxis, the only public transportation is buses, and it is far from the city. It may not improve until the MRT is opened in the future.

This was my first visit to Taichung International Airport. It wasn’t a huge airport like Taoyuan but it was bright, clean, functional as well as spacious. There were lots of seats for waiting passengers. Counters were near and information boards were always updated with flight details promptly. There were 2 atriums, one for Domestic flights and the other for International flights. We were taking Uniair to Kinmen and counters were very neat. Counter staff were also very polite and experienced. Washrooms were spotless, spacious.

It is a convenient and compact airport with free wifi . There is only one restaurant/café once you go through customs and a few duty free shops. There's also a play area for kids and a few nice spots to sit down while waiting for boarding.

Too many luxurious duty free in the transit zone and too few eateries, no convenience store. However, there are plenty of AC and USB sockets for charging, nice WiFi, functional restrooms. And most importantly, it's clean.

Nice new international terminal, the domestic one is very dated, but has more food options. Small size and efficient staff means it's easy to use, and for Taichung residents the convenience is worth it. Also a viable option for foreign tourists if there are cheaper flights into Taichung, with airlines like Tigerair, T'Way and VietJet starting RMQ flights this year. There are new airport express buses running through the city (King Bus 國光客運 A1, A, A3, 100NTD) as well as the cheaper 302 from Taichung Train Station down the express lane on Taiwan Blvd. The international departures area has good duty free shopping, rest areas, and play areas and library for kids. But there is only one restaurant. The food is good but would have expected much more.

Nice airport, not too crowded. It is very convenient to travel from 台灣大道 by the 302 bus.

I arrived here on Feb 20, 2017 and departed here on Feb 24, 2017. I paid the cheapest fare from Hong Kong to Taiwan if I landed here. Although the airport looks nice, there is no rail link and public buses to city centre or railway stations run infrequently!
