Ranch
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the picturesque Pyeongchang County, Daegwallyeong Sheep Farm is a charming destination that offers visitors a unique glimpse into sheep farming. Established in 1988, this privately-owned ranch spans an impressive 195 kilometers and is renowned as the only sheep farm in Korea. The farm features expansive walking paths that meander around a circular walkway, allowing guests to enjoy close-up views of the grazing sheep while soaking up the serene atmosphere.
The farm undergoes captivating transformations throughout the seasons. In spring, lush greenery dominates the landscape, while winter brings a snowy, serene atmosphere. Visitors can experience the farm's beauty in different ways depending on the time of year.

If you're ever in Pyeongchang, I highly recommend stopping by. It exceeded my expectations; the lovely ranch scenery and the opportunity to feed the sheep are wonderful for people of all ages. Furthermore, the entrance and feeding fees are quite affordable.
Hye K — Google review
It was an awesome experience My kids loved it ❤️
Abir A — Google review
Avoid this place! The only attraction is sheep, and that's it. They charge a hefty fee at the entrance, and all you'll see are a few sheep grazing. There's nothing more to it. Koreans may visit because sheep are a rare sight in the country (with pork and beef being common, sheep are a rarity), but this is an absolute rip-off. It doesn't deserve the attention or the visitors at all.
JJ — Google review
Came to this place February 2022 (winter). It was bitter cold as expected during that time of the year (plus Daegwallyeong is known to be one of the coldest places in Korea) but the scenery was just astonishing. You get to feed the sheep for a certain fee (it wasn’t expensive if I remember correctly) and the entrance fee was okay too. Just one downside is the transportation going to the area - you need to take either a taxi or drive because the place isn’t quite accessible via public transportation.
B. R — Google review
We went here in early March 2020. It is located in Pyongchang of Gangwon-do, and by car it took around 2.5hours from Seoul. There is plenty of free carpark space and it is around 5 min walk from carpark to the farm entrance. In 2020 we had a rather late snowfall in Korea hence most of the farm area was still covered by snow during our visit. The sheep were put in two houses in winter and you can feed and touch them which was included in the entrance fee. There was no restaurant inside the farm so suggest you either have it outside at the carpark area or bring your own if needed. A very nice place to spend with family. It can also be a half day option if you are skiing in Yongpyong or Alpensia resorts, as the sheep farm is around 30min from these ski resorts!!!
Benjamin Y — Google review
Well taken care of animals. Entrance fee includes some feed for the animals. You can also pet them here. Walj around the 2 trails to see sheep grazing in the fields. Really nice views of mountains in the background
Ben F — Google review
Daegwallyeong has great scenery and a lot of cute sheep. The sheep usually roams out in the fields, but as I went during the cold parts of the year, they were kept in the building. The sheep are very pleasant. They are not intimidating, and they are very soft to touch. All activities inside the ranch are free after the entrance fee. I would definitely recommend visiting this place, if you’re touring around Pyeongchang, or the Gangwon province.

Ranch
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the breathtaking highlands of Pyeongchang, Eco Green Campus, also known as Samyang Ranch, is a sprawling expanse that boasts Asia's largest green pasture. This picturesque ranch offers visitors an opportunity to explore its lush meadows through scenic car and bicycle routes. Families will find it particularly engaging with activities like sheep gathering and animal feeding, making it a delightful experience for children.
"The largest grassland ranch in South Korea, offering stunning scenery." This 19,800,000 square meters ranch is operated by SamYang, famous for producing 'Buldak Bokkeummyeon.'(Spicy food challenge) Along with its excellent natural scenery, it offers various experiences such as feeding sheep, purchasing organic dairy products, and more. Highly recommended are the potato fries made from locally produced and ice cream sold at the ranch's restaurant!
봄동이네봄동이네 — Google review
A pasture run by Sam Yang corp. that is famous for Red chicken stir-fried noodles. Here is so large and can't see all in a day. there is shuttle bus for guests. can see the lovely and peaceful view at East Sea observatory, if weather is clear can see the blue East Sea. also there is a sheep herding show. feed sheep and ostrich. recommend here if wanna feel real Gang Won-Do.
Jamie.B — Google review
Recommend place to visit! Such a pretty view. You can also watch sheepdog how they control sheep and experience feeding them. It would be good for kids and family to visit. They have really good ice cream at the cafe too!
Grace ( — Google review
Very beautiful place, similar to what you’d probably see in Hokkaido during winter… However, since the shuttle bus is not operating during winter if you don’t have a car with you and you plan to visit after lunch DO NOT THINK OF COMING HERE. My friend and I visited on Christmas Eve and we had to climb up from the ticketing booth since we just came via taxi. After climbing for one and a half hour and not reaching the wind mills, we decided to just go down and guess what - no taxis are available because the line of cars coming into the place stretches waaaay back into the main road (approx. 1.5 km). Definitely not visitor/tourist friendly. We had the soft serve ice cream produced by the cows residing inside and it was good; just not sure how big of a difference it is from ones I can get in Seoul.
B. R — Google review
I recommend to rent a car if you want to visit this place because it is hard to find a taxi up there. Luckily, our taxi driver offered to us that he would like to wait for us to take some pictures there. If you cannot find a taxi to go down, the only way to go down is by walking. It is not that far actually. Maybe around 4-5 km. But if you visit during winter, it will be a problem because it is so freezing. Your face might get frozen. I also recommend visiting this place in the morning, because when I went down at around 11.30 am, there was a traffic jam going up. Please dress warmly because it was so freezing. The wind was also strong. We only spent about 30 minutes there because it was so freezing haha.
Ellana A — Google review
I think overall it's a beautiful place. But non-Korean tourists out there who think that you can come here with just a taxi during winter, THINK TWICE!!! We came here in a taxi and were told that by the ticketing staff, there is no shuttle bus during winter and we have to walk the whole way up to the wind turbines and down (not an easy walk, you basically have to hike up the whole way). Our taxi driver is kind enough to drive us all the way to the top, which is the observatory area so we had the privilege to be up here. (we later would regret this because the only way back is to WALK, most of the time on the dirt road that you'll share with the passing cars). I think the view is nice, especially being so close to the wind turbines, there are a lot of people here at the show hills and some even brought sleds to slide down the snow hills. Because it's winter there won't be any animals. Also, you won't get any taxis within the whole compound since it's a private property, we had to walk out to the entrance (took us about 2.5 hours) to be able to hail a taxi via KakaoT (and that also depends on the kindness of your taxi driver who is willing to drive in for 20 mins from Hoenggye town).
Louis L — Google review
The trip was amazing. It started with a short bus ride of 5 minutes to the top of the mountain, where mist was everywhere and it felt mystical amd unreal. You could take a walk down to look at the cows and sheep as well. In the middle of the walk between the sheep enclosure and the peak of the mountain there qas a beautiful tree. There was a performance with sheep and dogs and you could get to feed the sheep. You could then look at the ostriches in the last stop. Finally there was the restaurant where there were burgers and ramen
Yan L — Google review
Fabulous view on the top of the hill, today December 29, 2022 very cold and atrong wind feel like -16 Celsius. No animal can live outside during winter so don't expect activities.

Water park
Water & Amusement Parks
Ocean 700 is a fantastic family water park featuring thrilling mega slides, wave pool, lazy river and sun loungers. It also offers an indoor water park that is perfect for winter activities. Visitors are required to wear swimming caps in the pool but can rent one at 2000 won. The tornado slide, two hot jacuzzis and outdoor hot swimming pool add to the fun experience. Guests can also enjoy the bath pool with water jet massages.
Wow ! Great place to bring your kids !! We came here on a Monday, and it was still crowded !! Life guards on duty ! There are three + ! (They don't sit down. They always stand up and keep a look out ) Food court located ok the dame floor ! 10am~5pm, 7 hours of fun !
Sarang K — Google review
Good experience to enjoy indoor water park with warm water in freaking cold weather as -10C. Its not big water park, but good enough for small kids. But, its better to buy discounted ticket thougj online for price for value.
Paul P — Google review
Awesome indoor water park for a different type of activity during winter time. You need to wear a swimming cap in the pool, so do bring one along, otherwise, you can rent one at 2000 won. The tornado slide is very awesome, there are two hot jacuzzi and an outdoor hot swimming pool! That’s just so fun. There is also a “bath pool” with water jet massages. We have lots of fun here. Towel is provided and you need to purchase/ bring your own shampoo/conditioner/shower gel.
Chan 陈 — Google review
I was quite reluctant to do this because it’s so cold during winter but kids insisted. And as it turns out, it’s amazing experience. It’s like indoor water park with slides and heated pools together with sauna and shower areas where mum and daughter can scrub each other like in Kdramas. Kids love the tornado slides (required min. 120cm height), and I enjoyed the two big heated pools. Note rental of safety jackets (5,000 won each) is a must in this pool but they didn’t enforce swim caps. Best part is coming out of the water park feeling all refreshed (aches from all the skiing) and warm despite the cold winter.
S. C — Google review
It is a water park. Not a big place but there are all facilities like sea wave pool.. Actually this is one of big famous ski resort and this is one of facility in this resort. There will hold 2018 winter Olympics.
김재경 — Google review
It isn't massive. The slides are fun. My only grip is having to wear a life jacket nearly all the time. I understand for those who cannot swim, but for those who can it is rather annoying having to wear a life jacket in 1.3 m water.
Luke R — Google review
Superb! Exciting
HENRY K — Google review
This is one of valuable place to stay and enjoy winter in Korea. It's not terribly crowded during weekdays and has many activities. Skiing and snowboarding is the one and fun snow sled for kids. And also there is a swimming pool where you can have fun in the warm water. This is especially great if you have children under the age of 13. It is more attractive because accommodation and meals are not expensive. The downside is that it is in a remote location.

Mountain cable car
Mt. Balwangsan Cable Car offers a thrilling ride to the top of the mountain, with stunning views along the way. It's recommended to purchase tickets online in advance to avoid long queues and save money. The ride takes about 20 minutes one way, and at the peak, visitors can enjoy a skywalk and breathtaking scenery. However, it's important to dress warmly as temperatures can drop significantly, especially during winter.
This was the highlight of our visit in South Korea. It's so cold during our visit. Additional cold due to strong wind at the top of Mt. Balwangsan. If you loved Skiing, this is your best spot.
Dexter F — Google review
A surprisingly long ride up to the top station. Mid week so not busy. Early May and surprisingly chilly - come prepared with warm kit and windbreakers. Beautiful facilities with restaurants. It must be amazing in the skiing season!
Vincent O — Google review
I recommend buying the ticket online because it's cheaper. The queue took about 2 hours. The ride is about 20 minutes one way. There is a skywalk at the top of the mountain. Unfortunately, because of the strong wind during my visit, they closed it so I just took some photos there. Make sure to dress warmly because it was so freezing there. Maybe it was around -20 degrees celcius during my visit. If you like skiing, you can go down by skiing. The queue for going down is not as long as the queue for going up. The view at the top is so beautiful.
Ellana A — Google review
The Bangwalsan cable car is awesome. The building was huge and had several restaurants, cafes, gift shops, etc. There were a lot of people who wanted to ski. The fee for the round trip was 25,000W. Very expensive. Make sure you explore the area like skywalk and stamp your walkway It took around 30 minutes to reach the peak station. Unfortunately, there was fog and a little rain. We couldn't see much of the scenery.
Norsa'adah — Google review
I suggest you to book ticket in advance before you come here. The cable car ride was quite long, maybe about 10 mins. And I didnt wait at all. I could see lots of people who want to ride this cable car to ski and they have to wait for long time in a long queue on the other side of the door. This cable car will take us to the top where people can enjoy skiing and visitors like me can take photos or just take a walk enjoying the view. Actually, it was super cold with very strong wind that day, and I was not prepared for the severe weather, my mistake, so I couldn't take many pics. 😫
Debs3012 — Google review
Balwangsan Cable Car service starts at Dragon Plaza Food Court on the 2nd level in yongpyong resort in Korea. It is a very popular service and is busy at every time of the day. Luckily for us, it was not too crowded. The cable car travels to a peak which is at an altitude of around 1458m. The cable car travels a distance of about 3km and travels at a speed of 5m/s. The cable car transports you to the top of a mountain where there is a viewing point where at the end of the bridge the floor is made of glass. The summit is a very good place for pictures as the view from the scenery makes for a perfect backdrop. The cable car service ends at 6pm at the base station. The service ends at 6:30pm at the summit. It is the only way off the peak. The cable car ride to the peak is a must visit if you are in pyeong chang as it is probably the best attraction there.

Namgyeong Sikdang offers a delightful experience of Kangwon Province's cuisine, featuring specialties like Kkong Mandu and Makguksu. The restaurant provides a picturesque view of the buckwheat fields through its large windows, making it an ideal spot to visit, especially during winter. Guests can relish the tender and slightly spicy Kkong Mandu along with the trademark chewy texture that sets it apart.
I was stunned by the view through the large windows. Worth visiting, especially in the winter. You can try excellent dumpling soup (Korean traditional) and regional noodle while viewing white snow covered hills. They also have steamed pork, but it wasn't as good as dumpling soup or noodle.

Napjak Sikdang is a must-visit restaurant in Pyeongchang, known for its original Osambulgogi, a delightful combination of grilled squid and pork belly. The generous portions of these savory meats are complemented by an array of hearty side dishes, ensuring a satisfying dining experience. With decades of history and three generations of loyal patrons, this establishment has earned a reputation for serving the best spicy pork belly KBBQ in Korea.
Amazing foot licked to the bone the plates
Robert F — Google review
I’ve been a regular for over 10 years, but it feels like the owner now values the grill more than the customers’ experience. It seems the staff have been scolded harshly, as they seem overly anxious about the grill burning at the table. They’re constantly adjusting the heat and even taking away the tongs. It’s disappointing to see that the owner appears to have lost the passion and care they once had.
Sangjun P — Google review
Many local residents recommend here, but nothing special in taste. It has curt servers, and even the owner does not care about customers. You would not grab a table on a first come first served basis because the owner is reluctant to manage it and just asks customers to compete for it. I suppose the reason for its fame is only due to its age.

Korean beef restaurant
Yongpyeong Hoegwan is a renowned establishment known for its high-quality beef dishes, particularly the exceptional Deungsim (ribeye steak) that boasts an exquisite flavor. While slightly pricey, this place is a must-visit for meat lovers. With 40 years of history, it's an institution offering amazing beef barbecue and flavorful side dishes. The stew options are also highly recommended. The restaurant provides great service and offers a variety of tasteful kimchi.
One of the best Korean beef BBQ place in the area. Both the marinated beef and unmarinated beef are fantastic. The fish soup with tofu is awesome. The unmarinated beef really is hard to find even in Seoul.
Kent M — Google review
This place is an institution, and it’s easy to understand why—the quality of beef barbecue is amazing. The side dishes are also flavorful, and stew options are so yummy that even after you’re completely full, it’s hard to put your spoon down. The only downside is that you have to cook your own beef, which if you’re not good at, you won’t be able to truly appreciate the restaurant. Will return for sure.

Really good food, especially if you want good meat and the service was great! The lady who helped us was very helpful and on the ball! The place has been open for 40 years, so that says a lot. Must try if you're out that side looking to eat some Korean meat

Been there with my family after skiing. Food and side dish was good but if you visited this place at its busy time, you need to wait for the service. Unlike the fast serving korean restaurant, they looked non-professional and slow. My 8 year old son said he felt a headache after the dinner. I think it's partly because he starved to wait for the dinner and the full of smoke at the restaurant. Ventilation needs to be improved. Considering the cost and other things I don't recommend this place especially for the family with young kids.

Nodaji, a restaurant in South Korea, offers a diverse selection of meals within the budget of 60000 KRW or 50 USD per person. Specializing in Korean beef and Makguksu, which is a local delicacy from Gangwon province made with buckwheat noodles, this eatery provides light and flavorful options. The raw beef mixed with rice is exceptionally tender while the Bulgogi hot pot carries an abundance of savory flavors due to the inclusion of small Octopus.
Great place for Korean beef. Lots of condiments and beef quality is great. One of the best places for Korean food near Yongpyung Ski resort. Service is also very friendly. I do not recommend the spicy squid and pork belly bulgogi which is a popular dish in this area. I in fact like squid and pork but did not think the mix was so good. Better to have it separated. Go with the beef or pork.

Meal budget per person (without drinks) Category 1 (under 60000 KRW, 50 USD) The restaurant specializes in Korean beef and Makguksu. Makguksu is a buckwheat noodle and a local specialty of Gangwon province. It is light and tasty. Raw beef mixed with rice is very tender and light. Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Balwangsan Skywalk, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Woljeongsa Temple & Fir Tree Forest. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Observation deck
The Balwangsan Skywalk offers a mesmerizing experience, especially during the winter season when the snowy mountains provide a breathtaking backdrop. Visitors can also enjoy the convenience of a cafe to relax and take in the picturesque views. The destination is family-friendly and provides captivating vistas, making it an ideal spot for a vacation with loved ones. Additionally, visitors can take a 20-minute cable car ride to reach the top of Mount Balwang where they can explore mountain top gardens and various trails.
It has a good observatory deck with beautiful view across the mountains. Enjoyed an easy stroll among the yew trees. Serene and a great spot to recharge in between ski sessions.

Cold and windy, but view is good. Did not manage to go to the trail as it was freezing. The last cable car end at 5pm and visitors need to come down by 5:45pm. It’s a little too dark to go up after 4pm during winter. There is a cafe and souvenir shop.
Young G — Google review
A very nice place. A beautiful scenery. I am a little bit disappointed when I came here today because there was no snowfall for the past few days. So all the snow are slowly showing the sign of melting. No fluffy snow there when I visited.
Fakhurudin R — Google review
Take elevators to the second floor. The girl serving at the elevator was very friendly. Amazing walk with amazing view. Can see through the floor as well. Scary experience. The view depends on the weather. You won't be able to view much if there are cloudy, fogs and rain.
Norsa'adah — Google review
The skywalk need no ticket. If you buy ticket for the cable car, you can go to the skywalk for free, by stairs or by lift. On every corner of the floor, they put a big poster of the dramas that used this place to shoot a scene. It was very windy and super cold when I went here. Couldnt stand for longer time. And we couldnt take pic at the hot spot, at the furthest point of this skywalk. It was closed that day. Maybe it was too dangerous 😳 don't know exactly why. I was expecting frozen kingdom, but it was a bad timing... the snow melted already.
Debs3012 — Google review
Amazing place. 20 Minute Cable Car Ride to the top of the mountain where the Sky Bridge is. Lots of trails to walk through the mountain top gardens. Plan at least for 3 hours on top of the mountain. Only regret is that we came in April so the plants were just beginning to bud. Best times would be Late May-June or Sept-Oct.
JimB B — Google review
The scenery is spectacular! The cable car is system is new and well maintained. The ride to the Skywalk is longer and more exciting than expected. It was quite a way to the top. There's a nice park and lower overhanging decks. The top tier of the observation area on the building gives the most awe inspiring view. The only hitch was trying to find parking. The lot was jam-packed. A little patience and that worked itself out, too. Very affordable, especially if purchased online through Yanolja. I hope you enjoy the view as much as I did.
Peter K — Google review
It is such a great place to visit for both skiers and hikers. Wait time for the cable car could be as long as an hour, but it is worth. The actual trip took about 10mins. We took a ski route called Rainbow Paradise on our way back, which was intermediate level and 5.6km long. I also saw a lot of hikers at the top.

Water & Amusement Parks
Peak Island is a vast and imaginative aquatic playground which boasts both indoor and outdoor pools equipped with large water slides. Additionally, the park features a food court where visitors can indulge in delectable meals. Its expansive nature coupled with its whimsical design portrays it as a fun-filled destination for entertainment seekers of all ages.

This is a fun resort with a very tidy water park that was good fun. It's not a huge one like you find in some western parks but it is pretty well equipped with a wave area, multiple slides (not all functioning though - I think it depends on the season) water jets and hot water pools as well as hot rooms and such (again some not all working). One bad point is the wooden flooring used in the changing areas. It's keeping in with the eastern style but somewhat hazardous as it requires mopping all the time. Other places tend to have textured tiles that are hard to lose grip on even when wet but I almost slipped a few times myself. While I was there a slightly older woman slipped and dislocated her leg and had to go to hospital! So be warned to take care! Note the Korean oddity of using baseball caps as well - so bring one with you - There is an on site shop incase you forget though!

Peak Island offers an idyllic retreat with stunning landscapes and pristine beaches. The crystal-clear waters and diverse marine life make it a paradise for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. The island's tranquil ambiance and friendly locals create a perfect escape from the hustle, ensuring a memorable and rejuvenating experience.

It's been alright. We're a little spoiled from Caribbean bay.... In parts looks little aged, but generally in good shape. We were there on a cold winter day and mostly enjoyed the heated outdoor pool. Entrance fee adult: 55.000 won/day, kids 45.000 won. As usually in Korea, you will need to rent a life jacket if you want to enter(the very tiny) wave pool. You're required to wear a bathing cap(can be purchased for 4.000 won on 1st floor). If you are short of bathers, they rent them at the same store (7.000 won for adults and 5.000 won for kids), but you can certainly always buy new ones as well. The deck chairs need to be rented, too. (I didn't, rather used the stools in the outdoor pool in front of the pool coffee shop)
H. S — Google review
The water park is very nice and the pools are clean as well as the area but the whole construction on the roof seems to require some renovation and restauration. It's big fun for the kids and a true distraction from the ski slopes.

Alpensia Ski Resort

Ski resort
Nestled in the picturesque highlands, Alpensia Ski Resort is a charming destination that caters to both novice and experienced skiers alike. Officially recognized as a venue for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, this resort features an array of facilities essential for winter sports, including specialized centers for biathlon, ski jumping, sliding, and cross-country skiing. The stunning backdrop of mountains enhances its appeal while providing optimal conditions at an elevation of 700 meters above sea level.
Amazing slopes, soft snow, had an amazing time, was able to learn how to snowboard and my instructor was amazing and had great patience with me! Would definitely recommend to family and friends 💪🏽🔥

We went here just at the start of fall so there's no snow yet but it was already cold. There's a verbena field in front of the ticket booth and it was beautiful for photos. We took the ski lift up and saw you can see the the view down below. There's also another verbena flower farm up there and a cafe. We took the Alpine Coaster going down and it was so fun! I drove the coaster by myself and it can go up to 40km per hour. It was so much fun, I would love to do it again. The coaster is only available before winter. They close it down when the snow starts to fall or when it's raining. I bet this is a beautiful ski resort in the winter and I probably will be back.
Belle — Google review
Alpensia Ski Resort in South Korea was the main venue for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, making it a significant location for winter sports enthusiasts. However, compared to larger ski resorts, Alpensia is relatively small, featuring only three ski lifts and six slopes. While it may not be the best choice for advanced skiers seeking a wide variety of runs, it can be a decent option for beginners and casual skiers looking for a more relaxed experience. One of the resort’s highlights is its thoughtfully designed layout, resembling a small alpine village. It features well-known international hotel chains such as Holiday Inn and InterContinental, providing comfortable accommodation options for visitors. Additionally, there are multiple CU convenience stores scattered around, making it easy to grab quick snacks or essentials. The resort also offers a variety of restaurants, though the dining selection is somewhat limited compared to larger ski destinations. Beyond skiing, Alpensia provides other recreational facilities, including an indoor water park, which is a great option for families or those looking to unwind after a day on the slopes. There’s also a convention center, making the resort a potential venue for events and conferences. Overall, while Alpensia Ski Resort may not be the most expansive ski destination in South Korea, it offers a well-rounded experience with quality accommodations, basic amenities, and a charming village atmosphere. It’s a suitable choice for those looking for a more relaxed ski trip, but those seeking more extensive slopes and advanced skiing terrain may prefer larger resorts like Yongpyong.

For a tiny little ski resort it's pretty good. It appears to be owned and run by the Holiday Inn hotel chain. The resort itself is very very expensive in regards to restaurants. Most are within the Holiday Inn buildings. The resort is very pretty and the HI have done a great job to keep it Alpine like. As far as the Skiing goes, it's very limited to about 6 runs. Mostly red and one green. Its Jan 22 2024 and there is heaps of snow. The runs are well groomed with minimal queues even at the weekend. The lift prices with HI guest discounts are pretty reasonable. You can't book in advance and have to purchase your lift passes the same day and only 30 mins before each session, morning after and night.

The ski resort has scattered buildings. We were lost, unsure the main entrance. The ski house is the place where you can rent all the equipment for skiing, including clothing. They have skiing instructors and school with different difficulties. We arrived at the resort raining. There were not many people. No snowing on 11 Dec 2023. There are many restaurants, playground for children and convenient store.
Norsa'adah — Google review
It is a really fabulous place. Great for the family. I see lots of foreigners staying there. People are mainly there for the snow. But there is a lack of shops and eateries, not much choices and activities though. Ski lessons are all booked out, so you really have to book in advance if you want to have ski lessons. Luckily the snow sledge was full of fun too. Great place for families with kids.

Woljeongsa Temple, an ancient Buddhist temple located in the Odaesan National Park, boasts an ornate pagoda and a museum displaying sacred art and artifacts. The temple is surrounded by a beautiful forest filled with fir trees that provide fresh air and moderate temperatures during the summer months. Additionally, visitors can witness the start of the Han river which remains unpolluted unlike other areas in Seoul. The trails leading to this serene location are illuminated at night enabling tourists to visit at any hour.
If you are in Samcheok, it is a must-visit place. Along with the tranquility of the temple, you can experience traditional Korean cultural assets and the surrounding scenery is very beautiful. I strongly recommend you to visit. You can also taste traditional tea at a tea house in Hanok Village nearby.

"As ancient as the temple itself, the fir trees gather to form a forest of quiet reverence." Woljeongsa’s fir tree path is lined with centuries-old trees that whisper the passage of time. The walk toward the temple feels like a gentle immersion into nature’s stillness. At the heart of the grounds stands the Nine-Story Stone Pagoda**, built in around 700 years ago**, showcasing the refined stone craftsmanship of Korea’s Buddhist heritage.

Costs about 10,000won from train station to the entrance here. There is an entrance fee to enter if coming with your car. Nice open wide walking trail. No bugs on you because the trail was well made and maintained. Lots of people walking there especially if your buddests. You can walk barefooted which is a trend here. A place to wash your feet is there as well. I would come back again if it weren't 3 hours by car from where I love or 2 1/2 hours by train. The trail is not longer than 1 hour so it would be minus if you think about the money you spend to get there from seoul and other locations. If you keep on going to the last stop on the itx train you get to the beach on the east coast which has more to do and see.

I came here as a volunteer. Stayed in the recently built modern-style accommodations located at the corner of the temple in a building designed for temple-stay programs. Sharing here a few photos of the room assigned to me. Unlike the traditional Korean style temple-stay quarters upstairs, all the rooms in the corridor where this room is located have cool gray floors and bright white walls with no wood features or natural light. The only window in this room points to the back of two very large AC units powering the entire building. The single occupancy rooms have even smaller windows or no windows at all. The air was damp, heavy, and hazardous. Mold was found in the room and my roommate got sick. There is a bathroom attached with no windows and limited air circulation.

Ari Hills Resort Skywalk Observatory is a hidden gem in Korea that offers a truly magnificent view of nature. The peninsula formed by the Dangang River resembles the Korean Peninsula, adding to the beauty of the landscape. Accessible by car, bus, or an hour-long walk, this spot provides a great sense of the surrounding mountains and hills. There are three viewing areas nearby, each offering unique perspectives worth exploring.
Korea has many hidden wonders that a person should experience at least once in your life. This place is one of those gems. By itself, the view is truly magnificent and a jewel of nature. Add to that, that the peninsula formed by the Dangang River forms a shape nearly identical to the Korean Peninsula. My description can do no justice to the majesty of this view. You must make it part of your Korea travel journey. One bit if warning however, getting to the vantage point requires climbing alot of stairs, and is not handicap accessible. This place will add yet one more amazing memory to your experience in this incredible country.

The place was a little further out than I expected but it was totally worth it. Spent almost 3 hours walking through the different spaces and talking pictures with different art installations. Already bought my ticket to go back in a month. Buying their open ticket in advance is slightly cheaper than buying on site

This museum is fairly remote (away from large cities) but it is huge! You will spend more time than you think you will at a museum here as there's many rooms and installations. What's best is really it's large structures, which evoke a unique experiential sense for the museum. Actual artworks like paintings are not that appealing or blue chip level, more like fillers amidst the installations and structures.

First, a disclaimer: My wife and I enjoy art and art museums quite a bit. Still, this place was well worth the visit. 15,000KRW per person (12,000KRW if you book in advance online!) for 6 or 7 absolutely fabulous exhibits and an equal amount of just great ones might seem a little bit much, but you gotta remember the scale. These installations are HUGE. All of the big ones are front loaded, which actually works out well. By the time you get to the smaller, cuter installations, you are primed to enjoy them. Add to the cool exhibits the fact that you are free to literally climb around in one of them-a giant crab made from ropes suspended high up in a steel cage that is itself raised well above the ground-and you have a very cool art museum. This is definitely worth a visit!

A gem in Youngwol !!! Huge space, open view, large scale sculpture, showing Korean masterpieces including those of Choi Ok-yong. The whole visit will need around 1.5 hours, and entrance fee was KRW15,000 as per year 2020. There is also a nice cafe to rest your mind after the visit ~ please beware that half of the visit will be outdoor and you need warm clothes and glove to stay outside for long enough.

Front desk service was nice and friendly. Some of them were able to understand simple English. The cleanliness of the rooms can be better. There were hairs on the floor, towel and pillow and you can tell there were some incomplete cleaning in the room as well as stains on the cushions and crumbs. There was a foul smell in the first room we were in and we requested to change to another room. When we were resting in the room, a room service came into our room to take one of the cushion away which was a shock to us as we were already in the room. The ski was a great experience but I don’t think we will come back to this resort again.

We decided to stay at this place as my father in law lives in pyeongchang. The room we booked the sky suite family which was fairly spacious. The room had the largest TV i have ever seen in a hotel however thats about the only good thing I have to say about this place. The bathrooms still had hair in there from previous guests. We had booked for 3 adults as my father in law stayed with us. This resort doesnt yeven supply you with enough towels for everyone to however with. We had to call each day for additional towels just for us to dry ourselves after a shower. Also where my wife and I slept, it wasn't even in a room. It was in an open space next to the living room area. Not only was there no wall or door for us to close, you dont even get a curtain for privacy. As we were here mid autumn, not the ski season, quite alot of the outdoor attractions did not operate everyday which ruined some of our plans. We did go to the aquatic centre where almost the entire outdoor area closed off, including all water slides. I wouldn't come back to this place again. Dirty rooms, you need to arrange towels before you shower with the staff and most amenities aren't even open

Check-in is proceeding in Blue building but had to wait more than 1 hour since there are too many people waiting over there. Pyeongchang Ice Fishing Festival

3.4
(1078)
Festival
The Pyeongchang Ice Fishing Festival is a celebration of the Donggang River's cultural and natural heritage. The festival offers various activities such as rafting, fishing competitions, and cultural performances, making it an ideal opportunity to enjoy outdoor fun while immersing in local traditions. Families can take advantage of the well-managed facilities and even opt for a tent package that includes protection against sun and wind, along with foldable chairs for comfort during ice fishing.
Family friendly, very well managed facility/event. If you plan on ice fishing, recommend getting the tent package (good protection against sun and wind), which also comes with foldable chairs. Note that there is a catch limit of 2 fishes per person. After fishing, bring your catches to the central cafeteria where you can get it grilled (highly recommend), sliced into sashimi, or fried with tempura batter. Aside from fishing, there are also plenty of other fun activities on the ice/snow to keep you and your kids busy for the whole day.
DD — Google review
It is also nice with kids whether you get fish or not. There are various ways to get fish like not only fishing but also catching by your hands or fishing place for kids. And you can enjoy snow tubing, sledding, etc.
Moko — Google review
Its cold. The fish is hard to catch with the mini nets. You have greater chance to catch fish if you have bait. The fish tastes like aalmon and looks like salmon. The entry price with the tents for four people was a bit over a hundred bucks. I THOUGHT IT WAS A WASTE OF MONEY

Auraji, located in Gangwon-do, is a serene and culturally rich destination that appeals to nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike. The area boasts a tranquil atmosphere with beautiful natural scenery, including two rivers meeting at the 'Reincarnation Bridge.' Visitors can enjoy the calming ambiance of the white bridge adorned with a huge moon crescent while taking in the picturesque rock formations along the river. Additionally, Auraji features traditional buildings and modern bridges set against stunning mountain views.

Beautiful scenic area with some hiking trails. There is no fee. The main parking area on the north side of the park appears to be under development.
El P — Google review
The locals named it as the "Reincarnation Bridge". Perhaps it was cold, there is not many people visiting this place. On the white bridge with the huge moon crescent, continuous chanting can be heard (played continuously). The scenery was calming and peaceful. At the bottom of the bridge, there are rock placements on the river which is perfect for taking fun pictures.

It a nice renovated attraction. There are two beautiful modern bridges and a stepping-stone with wonderful mountain scenery. A short circle trail surround the river. You can enjoy to follow this trail and also can drink and eat at a Korean traditional theme of pub in the middle of trail.
Minsu K — Google review
It was a little cloudy when I went. The water was quite cold and overflew the stone steps, so I had to walk barefoot (quite slippery). The view is nice and the air is fresh. There are some traditional buildings on the other side which are maintained in a rather poor quality. The view from the pavilion was pretty though. I hope to visit again one day when the weather is better.

While it is rare for me to award five stars, when I do, the establishment truly merits it. 부림식당 offers an unparalleled experience of genuine and immaculate home-style Korean cuisine that is challenging to surpass. Every dish exudes a sense of locality as if the ingredients were personally cultivated nearby, resulting in a discernible disparity in taste. The assortment of wild vegetables and soybean soup is exceptional and highly recommended for those visiting the area.
Should absolutely come to eat local Korean food.

Had the wild vegetable banchan (sidedish) table for one which was KRW10,000. Total 18 side dishes with one Jjigae (soup) and most of them are vegetarian except just two fish banchan! You can ask for as many refills as you want. Even the rice. The owners are not too friendly and banchans were mostly a bit too salty and over spicy.

(Translated by Google) It's a bit... a clean restaurant and I recommend it to people who don't like spicy food. Parking is available for about 3 cars, and the taste is about 7.5(?) out of 10. This is a taste evaluation based on my standards. If I remember it in passing, I will never hear it again. However, it is not enough to go out and eat it on purpose. P.S. The difference between a full meal and a set meal is the presence or absence of 3 to 4 core side dishes. Darae Korean Beef offers affordable yet excellent beef options, starting at only 13,000 per person. The food is of top-notch quality, with one of the sides being macaroni salad. The service is remarkably friendly and attentive, making customers feel like friends. The owner's daughter stands out by speaking impeccable English. Additionally, the restaurant provides high-quality Korean beef and service overall. The owner goes above and beyond by offering a convenient drive from the hotel to the establishment.
Had a wonderful Christmas Eve family dinner after a fantastic stay at Phoenix snow park. Complimentary ride from resort to and fro. Beef top notch grade 2++. Beef tartar special mention. Buddhist temple
Hiking area
Sangwonsa is a historic Buddhist temple located in Odaesan National Park, South Korea. It houses the oldest and one of the largest bronze bells in the country, dating back to AD 725. The temple also boasts a 15th-century wooden statue of Munsu, the bodhisattva of wisdom.
This is a temple I stopped by while going to “Wol-jeong Temple”. It took about 10 minutes to drive, but when I arrived, I thought it was a good idea to go there. There was a lot of snow, so it was a little difficult to walk up after getting off the car, but I felt great after arriving. You can also get there by bus, so please check in front of “Wol-jeong Temple"

This is an historic temple located along one of the major hiking trails in Odaesan National Park. The buildings here are fairly new construction, however the temple does hold the oldest bronze bell in the nation, which happens to be listed as one of Korea's National Treasures. Aside from the historic bell, the temple itself doesn't have much to distinguish it from the many other temples located on mountains in Korea. But since it is on a major hiking trail through the park and a very short walk from the parking lot / bus stop, you might as well stop by for a quick visit

The place is very nice. I traveled from Seoul to Jimbo terminal in bullet train KTX, took cab to bus stop and then took bus to Sangwonsa temple. You have to walk to reach to temple and from there if you want trekking, then you can climb to Birobong peak. There are many other treks, you can get the information near bus stop. The place is crowded with only old age people. Nice, beautiful colored trees during autumn season can be seen here. The atmosphere is very calm.

A historic buddhist temple with the national treasure bell and distinctive multi-level structures. Since it’s quite up in the mountain, simply being here feels peaceful and otherworldly.
Kyuwon L — Google review
The Bronze Bell of Sangwonsa Temple, located on Odaesan Mountain, was cast in 725 (the 24th year of King Seongdeok’s reign) during the Silla Period. Measuring 1.67 m in height and 0.91 m in diameter (at the rim), this bell is one of only two extant Buddhist bells from Silla together with the Sacred Bell of Great King Seongdeok (National Treasure No. 29).The top of the bell has a hook carved in the shape of a dragon with a large head and strong claws, and beside it there is a hollow tube for controlling the bell’s tone that is decorated with patterns of lotus flowers and vines. Wide bands are placed around the rim and shoulder, while there are four square blocks, each containing embossed designs of lotus flowers, below the shoulder band. The bands and the square blocks are bordered with bead patterns and decorated with scroll designs and several figures playing musical instruments. Sets of two Apsaras (Celestial Maidens), kneeling on clouds and playing musical instruments, are carved around the center. Between the Apsaras, the striking points are decorated with bead and lotus flower designs. It displays brilliant carving skills, and has a convex body with a rim that is narrower than the center. It is the oldest and finest bell existing in Korea, exhibiting all the unique structural features of Korean bells.

The Daegwallyeong Ski Museum is a must-visit, especially with the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics. The museum offers a fascinating insight into the history of winter sports, including skiing in Korean culture. Visitors can enjoy a free and informative tour, exploring various interesting items on display. One highlight is the ski jumping towers, which offer amazing views over Alpensia and Yong Pyong. The UFO-looking cafe at the top adds to the unique experience.

This place will become important for the 2018 Winter Olympics, and a lot of construction is going on before that, so check opening times and availability. I really like the ski jumping towers, with the ufo-looking café at the top. Amazing views over Alpensia, Yong Pyong and the surrounding area from the tower, and you go there by a small hill railway. A guide will take you up in the elevator and also show you the view from the actual start position of the highest hill. The ski jumping center below contains a small museum about cross-country and ski jumping in Korea, and a couple of cafe's where you can get coffee and lunch.

It is an 11km round trip, so be sure to climb the trail in the reverse direction. The forward direction is on a forest road and there is no view of the surrounding area. The reverse direction feels like trekking, starting from the sheep ranch and walking along the valley. Anyway, I didn't know there were so many people backpacking. Everyone, please make sure to stop by. Chinese restaurant
The Chinese restaurant Jintaewon offers delightful dishes, although it requires some patience even if one is seated. Among their menu options, Tangsooyook stands out as a remarkable choice and is highly recommended over Jjambong. The flavors are truly exceptional, particularly the sour pork dish. However, due to its popularity and high demand, customers may have to endure a longer waiting time.
Taste good but you need to be patience even if you have a seat. Especially, Tangsooyook is the best and recommend to eat Jjambong than Jajangmyeon.

Simple Korean style Chinese restaurant. The building is pretty run down so don’t expect anything fancy. Best known for jjiampong (spicy noodles) and tangsuyuk (fried pork with sweet sauce), and they’re both good, but it wasn’t anything exceptional. I gather the long wait is from word of mouth and the fact that there aren’t many Chinese places nearby. Worth trying once if in the area and if there isn’t a wait.

(Translated by Google) Honestly, it just feels like a healthy Chinese restaurant :) There was no wait, so I was able to get in right away. Of course, after that, they kept telling me there were no seats left, so there was a wait. It takes a long time to cook, so the turnover is slow. I'm not dissatisfied, but the amount of sweet and sour pork is just so-so for the price. And the fried meat was a bit overcooked. The jjajang jjambbong really felt healthy.

Water & Amusement Parks
Phoenix Pyeongchang Blue Canyon is a versatile destination in Gangwondo, offering a hotel, plaza, restaurant, water park, ski park, and English ski and snowboarding lessons. The water park features various pools including wave pool, massage pool, children's pool, outdoor jacuzzi pool and indoor warm jacuzzi pool. Although the slide is closed during winter, lifeguards are attentive to ensure safety.
A wonderfully situated swimming pool next to the ski resort. There are a few different pools available for different needs. There is the waves pool, massage pool, children pool, outdoor jaccuzzi pool and an indoor warm jaccuzzi pool. The slide is not in operation as it is winter. The lifeguards on duty are very vigilant. Whistles were blown a few times as we were playing with the snow and climbing out of the pool onto the outdoor pool deck to walk in the snow. With their presence, we were assured our safety. A big thank you to the life guards on duty. So sorry for making you guys worry. We were so engrossed that we did not take any photos of this place.

It's a nice water park with indoor warm water that you can enjoy at Winter time. You can flow on the water tunnel to the outdoor area to feel the snowy weather and watch the stars. It's kind of romantic. The swimsuits in there are very expensive especially on the ladies'. Be reminded to bring your own Swimsuit to there. There is onsen at the side of the changing room. Be reminded to spend a good time there as well!

I visited yesterday with 3 kids including a 12month old. The employee at the entrance said i need to show them a proof of something which shows that the baby is under 36month. Seriously? You can't get an employee who can tell the difference between an infant and 3yr olds?? So i told the employee that i don't carry baby's passport to waterpark(i don't know if i can even call this place water park. It was about 1/10 of great wolf lodge-size wise- in anaheim california.). Long story short. 1. I think the management should hire employees with some common sense. 2. This place is pathetic. Sososo tiny, shame on yourselves that you call this place water park. 3. Water was so dirty, my kids immediately got atopic dermatitis. 4.I Do not recommend to ANYONE * adding some more info.-renting the life vest was (mas o menos)6dollars. We weren't informed that it was mandatory (even for grown-ups). Hey manangement! If you want to make it mandatory, it has to be free of charge just like great wolf lodge. *also smelly restrooms. Smells smells smells!!!

Country Herb Farm is a vast and magical place that's filled with love, curiosity, and nature. The owners pour their hearts into maintaining the massive garden, which features tall herbs and flowers along with handcrafted miniature statues. The farm has 7 themed gardens and offers a peaceful atmosphere for relaxation. Visitors can enjoy delicious flower salads and the soothing sound of creek water. It serves as a great springboard to explore other local spots, making it an ideal destination for a 3-4 night stay.
I was truly impressed by the immense scale of this place and how they managed to maintain such a massive garden. It felt like it would require hundreds of gardeners to tend to it all. The tall, well-grown herbs and flowers, along with the numerous handcrafted miniature statues, were particularly striking. My admiration goes out to the owners for their dedication. The chalets were also spacious, comfortably accommodating anywhere from 4 to 8 family members.

It’s a cute place to visit and the entrance bridge has nice mountain views. The best sights were in the front after said bridge. The rest of the facility is quite small and dated. It felt very built in the 90’s. For the price of 8,000w per person, it’s too steep for what it is. I respect the hard work and effort of the gardeners but I wish they would update and create a better aesthetic for visitors.

(Translated by Google) The Tadari buckwheat noodles are a bit bland, but they're seasoned with vinegar, so they're not quite as sweet as regular noodles. They're bland, but they're still bland. Grinding buckwheat flour like pepper and adding more of it enhances the crispy texture. The broth is also a bit sweet. The Tadari buckwheat bibim noodles are best enjoyed with a little salt added to the broth. The more ground buckwheat you add, the more crispy the texture becomes. The more ground buckwheat you add, the better the flavor. I like it a bit bland, but the sweetness is strong... Adding more ground buckwheat helps to tone it down a bit. The potato dumplings aren't something you necessarily want to eat; they're familiar. The potato skin is a bit unusual, but it doesn't make much of a difference. The potato rice cakes have a nice color, but the taste is just okay. Slightly sweet with a rice cake flavor. I wanted to try the pancakes, but even though it was morning when I went, they said they couldn't order pancakes. I went to the store next door, so there were a lot of people waiting. Plenty. The parking lot is reasonably large, so it's not overly crowded. Because it's a noodle restaurant, turnover isn't too slow. There are still some spots available, though.
