Ranch
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the breathtaking highlands of Pyeongchang, Eco Green Campus, also known as Samyang Ranch, is a sprawling expanse that boasts Asia's largest green pasture. This picturesque ranch offers visitors an opportunity to explore its lush meadows through scenic car and bicycle routes. Families will find it particularly engaging with activities like sheep gathering and animal feeding, making it a delightful experience for children.
"The largest grassland ranch in South Korea, offering stunning scenery." This 19,800,000 square meters ranch is operated by SamYang, famous for producing 'Buldak Bokkeummyeon.'(Spicy food challenge) Along with its excellent natural scenery, it offers various experiences such as feeding sheep, purchasing organic dairy products, and more. Highly recommended are the potato fries made from locally produced and ice cream sold at the ranch's restaurant!

A pasture run by Sam Yang corp. that is famous for Red chicken stir-fried noodles. Here is so large and can't see all in a day. there is shuttle bus for guests. can see the lovely and peaceful view at East Sea observatory, if weather is clear can see the blue East Sea. also there is a sheep herding show. feed sheep and ostrich. recommend here if wanna feel real Gang Won-Do.
Jamie.B — Google review
Recommend place to visit! Such a pretty view. You can also watch sheepdog how they control sheep and experience feeding them. It would be good for kids and family to visit. They have really good ice cream at the cafe too!
Grace ( — Google review
Very beautiful place, similar to what you’d probably see in Hokkaido during winter… However, since the shuttle bus is not operating during winter if you don’t have a car with you and you plan to visit after lunch DO NOT THINK OF COMING HERE. My friend and I visited on Christmas Eve and we had to climb up from the ticketing booth since we just came via taxi. After climbing for one and a half hour and not reaching the wind mills, we decided to just go down and guess what - no taxis are available because the line of cars coming into the place stretches waaaay back into the main road (approx. 1.5 km). Definitely not visitor/tourist friendly. We had the soft serve ice cream produced by the cows residing inside and it was good; just not sure how big of a difference it is from ones I can get in Seoul.
B. R — Google review
I recommend to rent a car if you want to visit this place because it is hard to find a taxi up there. Luckily, our taxi driver offered to us that he would like to wait for us to take some pictures there. If you cannot find a taxi to go down, the only way to go down is by walking. It is not that far actually. Maybe around 4-5 km. But if you visit during winter, it will be a problem because it is so freezing. Your face might get frozen. I also recommend visiting this place in the morning, because when I went down at around 11.30 am, there was a traffic jam going up. Please dress warmly because it was so freezing. The wind was also strong. We only spent about 30 minutes there because it was so freezing haha.
Ellana A — Google review
I think overall it's a beautiful place. But non-Korean tourists out there who think that you can come here with just a taxi during winter, THINK TWICE!!! We came here in a taxi and were told that by the ticketing staff, there is no shuttle bus during winter and we have to walk the whole way up to the wind turbines and down (not an easy walk, you basically have to hike up the whole way). Our taxi driver is kind enough to drive us all the way to the top, which is the observatory area so we had the privilege to be up here. (we later would regret this because the only way back is to WALK, most of the time on the dirt road that you'll share with the passing cars). I think the view is nice, especially being so close to the wind turbines, there are a lot of people here at the show hills and some even brought sleds to slide down the snow hills. Because it's winter there won't be any animals. Also, you won't get any taxis within the whole compound since it's a private property, we had to walk out to the entrance (took us about 2.5 hours) to be able to hail a taxi via KakaoT (and that also depends on the kindness of your taxi driver who is willing to drive in for 20 mins from Hoenggye town).
Louis L — Google review
The trip was amazing. It started with a short bus ride of 5 minutes to the top of the mountain, where mist was everywhere and it felt mystical amd unreal. You could take a walk down to look at the cows and sheep as well. In the middle of the walk between the sheep enclosure and the peak of the mountain there qas a beautiful tree. There was a performance with sheep and dogs and you could get to feed the sheep. You could then look at the ostriches in the last stop. Finally there was the restaurant where there were burgers and ramen
Yan L — Google review
Fabulous view on the top of the hill, today December 29, 2022 very cold and atrong wind feel like -16 Celsius. No animal can live outside during winter so don't expect activities.

Ranch
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the picturesque Pyeongchang County, Daegwallyeong Sheep Farm is a charming destination that offers visitors a unique glimpse into sheep farming. Established in 1988, this privately-owned ranch spans an impressive 195 kilometers and is renowned as the only sheep farm in Korea. The farm features expansive walking paths that meander around a circular walkway, allowing guests to enjoy close-up views of the grazing sheep while soaking up the serene atmosphere.
The farm undergoes captivating transformations throughout the seasons. In spring, lush greenery dominates the landscape, while winter brings a snowy, serene atmosphere. Visitors can experience the farm's beauty in different ways depending on the time of year.
Eman M — Google review
If you're ever in Pyeongchang, I highly recommend stopping by. It exceeded my expectations; the lovely ranch scenery and the opportunity to feed the sheep are wonderful for people of all ages. Furthermore, the entrance and feeding fees are quite affordable.
Hye K — Google review
It was an awesome experience My kids loved it ❤️
Abir A — Google review
Avoid this place! The only attraction is sheep, and that's it. They charge a hefty fee at the entrance, and all you'll see are a few sheep grazing. There's nothing more to it. Koreans may visit because sheep are a rare sight in the country (with pork and beef being common, sheep are a rarity), but this is an absolute rip-off. It doesn't deserve the attention or the visitors at all.
JJ — Google review
Came to this place February 2022 (winter). It was bitter cold as expected during that time of the year (plus Daegwallyeong is known to be one of the coldest places in Korea) but the scenery was just astonishing. You get to feed the sheep for a certain fee (it wasn’t expensive if I remember correctly) and the entrance fee was okay too. Just one downside is the transportation going to the area - you need to take either a taxi or drive because the place isn’t quite accessible via public transportation.
B. R — Google review
We went here in early March 2020. It is located in Pyongchang of Gangwon-do, and by car it took around 2.5hours from Seoul. There is plenty of free carpark space and it is around 5 min walk from carpark to the farm entrance. In 2020 we had a rather late snowfall in Korea hence most of the farm area was still covered by snow during our visit. The sheep were put in two houses in winter and you can feed and touch them which was included in the entrance fee. There was no restaurant inside the farm so suggest you either have it outside at the carpark area or bring your own if needed. A very nice place to spend with family. It can also be a half day option if you are skiing in Yongpyong or Alpensia resorts, as the sheep farm is around 30min from these ski resorts!!!
Benjamin Y — Google review
Well taken care of animals. Entrance fee includes some feed for the animals. You can also pet them here. Walj around the 2 trails to see sheep grazing in the fields. Really nice views of mountains in the background
Ben F — Google review
Daegwallyeong has great scenery and a lot of cute sheep. The sheep usually roams out in the fields, but as I went during the cold parts of the year, they were kept in the building. The sheep are very pleasant. They are not intimidating, and they are very soft to touch. All activities inside the ranch are free after the entrance fee. I would definitely recommend visiting this place, if you’re touring around Pyeongchang, or the Gangwon province.

Ski resort
Nestled in the picturesque highlands, Alpensia Ski Resort is a charming destination that caters to both novice and experienced skiers alike. Officially recognized as a venue for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, this resort features an array of facilities essential for winter sports, including specialized centers for biathlon, ski jumping, sliding, and cross-country skiing. The stunning backdrop of mountains enhances its appeal while providing optimal conditions at an elevation of 700 meters above sea level.
Amazing slopes, soft snow, had an amazing time, was able to learn how to snowboard and my instructor was amazing and had great patience with me! Would definitely recommend to family and friends 💪🏽🔥
ASAP C — Google review
We went here just at the start of fall so there's no snow yet but it was already cold. There's a verbena field in front of the ticket booth and it was beautiful for photos. We took the ski lift up and saw you can see the the view down below. There's also another verbena flower farm up there and a cafe. We took the Alpine Coaster going down and it was so fun! I drove the coaster by myself and it can go up to 40km per hour. It was so much fun, I would love to do it again. The coaster is only available before winter. They close it down when the snow starts to fall or when it's raining. I bet this is a beautiful ski resort in the winter and I probably will be back.
Belle — Google review
Alpensia Ski Resort in South Korea was the main venue for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, making it a significant location for winter sports enthusiasts. However, compared to larger ski resorts, Alpensia is relatively small, featuring only three ski lifts and six slopes. While it may not be the best choice for advanced skiers seeking a wide variety of runs, it can be a decent option for beginners and casual skiers looking for a more relaxed experience. One of the resort’s highlights is its thoughtfully designed layout, resembling a small alpine village. It features well-known international hotel chains such as Holiday Inn and InterContinental, providing comfortable accommodation options for visitors. Additionally, there are multiple CU convenience stores scattered around, making it easy to grab quick snacks or essentials. The resort also offers a variety of restaurants, though the dining selection is somewhat limited compared to larger ski destinations. Beyond skiing, Alpensia provides other recreational facilities, including an indoor water park, which is a great option for families or those looking to unwind after a day on the slopes. There’s also a convention center, making the resort a potential venue for events and conferences. Overall, while Alpensia Ski Resort may not be the most expansive ski destination in South Korea, it offers a well-rounded experience with quality accommodations, basic amenities, and a charming village atmosphere. It’s a suitable choice for those looking for a more relaxed ski trip, but those seeking more extensive slopes and advanced skiing terrain may prefer larger resorts like Yongpyong.

Everytime we go to korea we must stay at pyeongchang ski resort. Snow fun is complete there and there are many eateries.
Zie I — Google review
For a tiny little ski resort it's pretty good. It appears to be owned and run by the Holiday Inn hotel chain. The resort itself is very very expensive in regards to restaurants. Most are within the Holiday Inn buildings. The resort is very pretty and the HI have done a great job to keep it Alpine like. As far as the Skiing goes, it's very limited to about 6 runs. Mostly red and one green. Its Jan 22 2024 and there is heaps of snow. The runs are well groomed with minimal queues even at the weekend. The lift prices with HI guest discounts are pretty reasonable. You can't book in advance and have to purchase your lift passes the same day and only 30 mins before each session, morning after and night.
Mr S — Google review
The ski resort has scattered buildings. We were lost, unsure the main entrance. The ski house is the place where you can rent all the equipment for skiing, including clothing. They have skiing instructors and school with different difficulties. We arrived at the resort raining. There were not many people. No snowing on 11 Dec 2023. There are many restaurants, playground for children and convenient store.
Norsa'adah — Google review
It is a really fabulous place. Great for the family. I see lots of foreigners staying there. People are mainly there for the snow. But there is a lack of shops and eateries, not much choices and activities though. Ski lessons are all booked out, so you really have to book in advance if you want to have ski lessons. Luckily the snow sledge was full of fun too. Great place for families with kids.
Keith L — Google review
Beautiful resort and only 2min walk to the ski house entrance. There is a bar, cafe and restaurant inside the resort. Also you can rent movies from their movie library and watch them in the comfort of your room after skiing all day.

Nature & Parks
Nestled in the heart of South Korea, Odaesan National Park is a stunning destination that beckons nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Dominated by the majestic Birobong peak, which soars to 1,563 meters above sea level, this park features five impressive peaks that create a picturesque backdrop. The lush forests and diverse flora and fauna make it an ideal spot for hiking enthusiasts looking to explore scenic trails.
Though by no means one of my favorite national parks in Korea, Odaesan is still a really nice place. The hiking is easier than in many of the other national parks in Korea, but unfortunately that results in views that are just okay. This place might be much more beautiful in fall during peak foliage (or even on a clear day instead of during a snowstorm like when I visited), but if you're looking for amazing views, the nearby National Parks of Taebaeksan, Woraksan, and of course Seoraksan are far better options, in my opinion. Still worth visiting, but if you're pressed for time in Korea, there are other places more deserving of a visit
Gunnar C — Google review
Beautiful park with several temples. Entrance to the park is 6,000 Won for one day. The entrance fee covers everything (parking, access to temples, etc). The hikes here are not difficult and very doable. When you go off the main walkways you won’t be able to push a stroller or wheelchair. In March there is still snow on the ground or slush so make sure you have the appropriate footwear with you!
Gerry G — Google review
We did the 9km hike up the gorge to Sangwongsa temple and were really impressed with the trail, bridges, scenery and general organisation of the park. The national parks in Korea are amazing. ❤️🇰🇷

The place to enjoy early autumn in Korea, the trail is easy to walk a lot of people come here for hiking. Korean people they really love hiking. On the way of hiking you will see some sign to understand the nature.

Odaesan Mountain is a mountain located in the province of Gangwon-do in South Korea. It is part of the Taebaek mountain range and stands at 1,563 meters (5,128 feet) above sea level. Odaesan Mountain is considered one of the most famous and popular mountains for hiking in South Korea due to its natural beauty, cultural significance, and accessibility. The mountain is home to a number of temples and other cultural sites, including Woljeongsa Temple, one of the most important temples in Korea's Jogye Order of Buddhism. The mountain is also a popular destination for those interested in the traditional Korean practice of shamanism, as it is home to several shamanic shrines. The mountain is covered with a dense forest and it's known for its beautiful autumn foliage. The mountain is accessible by public transportation and it's a popular day trip destination from nearby cities like Pyeongchang and Wonju. The Odaesan National Park was established on the mountain in 1971 and it's a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1982.

It was also featured in the Korean drama 'Autumn in Heart.' Visitors can rent skiing equipment and clothing on-site. Amazing snowboarding experience at one of the main venues of the 2018 Winter Olympics Better experience than riding at Mount Norquay located in Banff Alberta. But nothing beats the view of the Rockies, haha. Maybe the Swiss alps. I will most definitely repeat my visit here
James ( — Google review
A more reasonable price skiing resort in Korea. Facilities are a bit old, but the skiing location is next to the hotel and the various condos, very convenient.
Richard S — Google review
Overall I would say it’s a good experience there. There is ski rental, lockers, convenience store, Cafés, buffet, as well as Lotteria (fast food), all the necessary amenities for skiing. The mountain relies on Artificial Snow as it does not snow quite often (probably 3 times a week in mid-Dec) The price of the Snow Park was a little too expensive. There a different types of Ski Pass, including all day (9am to 10pm), 1pm pass as well as well as Night Ski (6-10pm) **closed from 4-6pm for night ski preparation Most staff there speak Korean too (only some speak English) How to get there (from Seoul): Book coach bus/pre book taxi ride/KTX bullet train Recommend KTX bullet train. Only 1h 30min ride from Seoul Station There is a FREE shuttle bus available to and from Phoenix Pyeongchang. Goes around Pyeongchang town which includes KTX Pyeongchang Station as well as Bus Terminal. If you are taking KTX there, you can take the shuttle bus. The only problem with the shuttle is that if you are carrying luggage(s), you may have a hard time because you have to climb up the bus. Also, the official website can be improved. A lot of information cannot be found there. (Ski lift opening hours, price etc.).
Jaren K — Google review
Loved the experience here. My first time learning to ski and the instructor was a young but expert competitive skier from Argentina who taught so well that i was able to do the east slope within a few hours! The place has got flipped for all classes, for skiing out for snowboarding, and it’s quite easy to rent the equipment for all activities.

Since its inception in 2007, the Pyeongchang Trout Festival has become a must-visit winter celebration nestled in Jinbu-myeon, within the picturesque Pyeongchang-gun district. This vibrant festival offers an array of engaging activities that cater to all ages, from traditional folk games like sledding and top spinning to thrilling adventures such as ATV rides and snow rafting.
Really good family fun. We went a few days ago and it wasn’t cold enough for ice so we didn’t get a chance to do ice fishing but we had fun fishing for trout indoors. Each ticket holder gets a trout to take away, whether you end up catching it yourself or if fishing is unsuccessful the employees will scoop one up for you. We took the fish to get cleaned and bbq’d. It was sooooo delicious. Tickets for 2 adults was 30,000 won and to get your fish cleaned and bbq’d or sashimi is 3,000 won each. The biggest draw of the festival is definitely the trout fishing but there were also kiddie rides, sledding, and tubing. We had a lot of fun, even with our wild 2 year old.

Woljeongsa Temple, an ancient Buddhist temple located in the Odaesan National Park, boasts an ornate pagoda and a museum displaying sacred art and artifacts. The temple is surrounded by a beautiful forest filled with fir trees that provide fresh air and moderate temperatures during the summer months. Additionally, visitors can witness the start of the Han river which remains unpolluted unlike other areas in Seoul. The trails leading to this serene location are illuminated at night enabling tourists to visit at any hour.
If you are in Samcheok, it is a must-visit place. Along with the tranquility of the temple, you can experience traditional Korean cultural assets and the surrounding scenery is very beautiful. I strongly recommend you to visit. You can also taste traditional tea at a tea house in Hanok Village nearby.

"As ancient as the temple itself, the fir trees gather to form a forest of quiet reverence." Woljeongsa’s fir tree path is lined with centuries-old trees that whisper the passage of time. The walk toward the temple feels like a gentle immersion into nature’s stillness. At the heart of the grounds stands the Nine-Story Stone Pagoda**, built in around 700 years ago**, showcasing the refined stone craftsmanship of Korea’s Buddhist heritage.

Costs about 10,000won from train station to the entrance here. There is an entrance fee to enter if coming with your car. Nice open wide walking trail. No bugs on you because the trail was well made and maintained. Lots of people walking there especially if your buddests. You can walk barefooted which is a trend here. A place to wash your feet is there as well. I would come back again if it weren't 3 hours by car from where I love or 2 1/2 hours by train. The trail is not longer than 1 hour so it would be minus if you think about the money you spend to get there from seoul and other locations. If you keep on going to the last stop on the itx train you get to the beach on the east coast which has more to do and see.

I came here as a volunteer. Stayed in the recently built modern-style accommodations located at the corner of the temple in a building designed for temple-stay programs. Sharing here a few photos of the room assigned to me. Unlike the traditional Korean style temple-stay quarters upstairs, all the rooms in the corridor where this room is located have cool gray floors and bright white walls with no wood features or natural light. The only window in this room points to the back of two very large AC units powering the entire building. The single occupancy rooms have even smaller windows or no windows at all. The air was damp, heavy, and hazardous. Mold was found in the room and my roommate got sick. There is a bathroom attached with no windows and limited air circulation.

This is a fun resort with a very tidy water park that was good fun. It's not a huge one like you find in some western parks but it is pretty well equipped with a wave area, multiple slides (not all functioning though - I think it depends on the season) water jets and hot water pools as well as hot rooms and such (again some not all working). One bad point is the wooden flooring used in the changing areas. It's keeping in with the eastern style but somewhat hazardous as it requires mopping all the time. Other places tend to have textured tiles that are hard to lose grip on even when wet but I almost slipped a few times myself. While I was there a slightly older woman slipped and dislocated her leg and had to go to hospital! So be warned to take care! Note the Korean oddity of using baseball caps as well - so bring one with you - There is an on site shop incase you forget though!

It's been alright. We're a little spoiled from Caribbean bay.... In parts looks little aged, but generally in good shape. We were there on a cold winter day and mostly enjoyed the heated outdoor pool. Entrance fee adult: 55.000 won/day, kids 45.000 won. As usually in Korea, you will need to rent a life jacket if you want to enter(the very tiny) wave pool. You're required to wear a bathing cap(can be purchased for 4.000 won on 1st floor). If you are short of bathers, they rent them at the same store (7.000 won for adults and 5.000 won for kids), but you can certainly always buy new ones as well. The deck chairs need to be rented, too. (I didn't, rather used the stools in the outdoor pool in front of the pool coffee shop)

The water park is very nice and the pools are clean as well as the area but the whole construction on the roof seems to require some renovation and restauration. It's big fun for the kids and a true distraction from the ski slopes.

Country Herb Farm is a vast and magical place that's filled with love, curiosity, and nature. The owners pour their hearts into maintaining the massive garden, which features tall herbs and flowers along with handcrafted miniature statues. The farm has 7 themed gardens and offers a peaceful atmosphere for relaxation. Visitors can enjoy delicious flower salads and the soothing sound of creek water. It serves as a great springboard to explore other local spots, making it an ideal destination for a 3-4 night stay.
I was truly impressed by the immense scale of this place and how they managed to maintain such a massive garden. It felt like it would require hundreds of gardeners to tend to it all. The tall, well-grown herbs and flowers, along with the numerous handcrafted miniature statues, were particularly striking. My admiration goes out to the owners for their dedication. The chalets were also spacious, comfortably accommodating anywhere from 4 to 8 family members.

Sangwonsa is a historic Buddhist temple located in Odaesan National Park, South Korea. It houses the oldest and one of the largest bronze bells in the country, dating back to AD 725. The temple also boasts a 15th-century wooden statue of Munsu, the bodhisattva of wisdom.
This is a temple I stopped by while going to “Wol-jeong Temple”. It took about 10 minutes to drive, but when I arrived, I thought it was a good idea to go there. There was a lot of snow, so it was a little difficult to walk up after getting off the car, but I felt great after arriving. You can also get there by bus, so please check in front of “Wol-jeong Temple"

Serene not too big quite temple with hidden beauty.
Fred S — Google review
This is an historic temple located along one of the major hiking trails in Odaesan National Park. The buildings here are fairly new construction, however the temple does hold the oldest bronze bell in the nation, which happens to be listed as one of Korea's National Treasures. Aside from the historic bell, the temple itself doesn't have much to distinguish it from the many other temples located on mountains in Korea. But since it is on a major hiking trail through the park and a very short walk from the parking lot / bus stop, you might as well stop by for a quick visit
Gunnar C — Google review
The place is very nice. I traveled from Seoul to Jimbo terminal in bullet train KTX, took cab to bus stop and then took bus to Sangwonsa temple. You have to walk to reach to temple and from there if you want trekking, then you can climb to Birobong peak. There are many other treks, you can get the information near bus stop. The place is crowded with only old age people. Nice, beautiful colored trees during autumn season can be seen here. The atmosphere is very calm.

A historic buddhist temple with the national treasure bell and distinctive multi-level structures. Since it’s quite up in the mountain, simply being here feels peaceful and otherworldly.
Kyuwon L — Google review
The Bronze Bell of Sangwonsa Temple, located on Odaesan Mountain, was cast in 725 (the 24th year of King Seongdeok’s reign) during the Silla Period. Measuring 1.67 m in height and 0.91 m in diameter (at the rim), this bell is one of only two extant Buddhist bells from Silla together with the Sacred Bell of Great King Seongdeok (National Treasure No. 29).The top of the bell has a hook carved in the shape of a dragon with a large head and strong claws, and beside it there is a hollow tube for controlling the bell’s tone that is decorated with patterns of lotus flowers and vines. Wide bands are placed around the rim and shoulder, while there are four square blocks, each containing embossed designs of lotus flowers, below the shoulder band. The bands and the square blocks are bordered with bead patterns and decorated with scroll designs and several figures playing musical instruments. Sets of two Apsaras (Celestial Maidens), kneeling on clouds and playing musical instruments, are carved around the center. Between the Apsaras, the striking points are decorated with bead and lotus flower designs. It displays brilliant carving skills, and has a convex body with a rim that is narrower than the center. It is the oldest and finest bell existing in Korea, exhibiting all the unique structural features of Korean bells.

The Pyeongchang Ice Fishing Festival is a celebration of the Donggang River's cultural and natural heritage. The festival offers various activities such as rafting, fishing competitions, and cultural performances, making it an ideal opportunity to enjoy outdoor fun while immersing in local traditions. Families can take advantage of the well-managed facilities and even opt for a tent package that includes protection against sun and wind, along with foldable chairs for comfort during ice fishing.
Family friendly, very well managed facility/event. If you plan on ice fishing, recommend getting the tent package (good protection against sun and wind), which also comes with foldable chairs. Note that there is a catch limit of 2 fishes per person. After fishing, bring your catches to the central cafeteria where you can get it grilled (highly recommend), sliced into sashimi, or fried with tempura batter. Aside from fishing, there are also plenty of other fun activities on the ice/snow to keep you and your kids busy for the whole day.

It is also nice with kids whether you get fish or not. There are various ways to get fish like not only fishing but also catching by your hands or fishing place for kids. And you can enjoy snow tubing, sledding, etc.

Its cold. The fish is hard to catch with the mini nets. You have greater chance to catch fish if you have bait. The fish tastes like aalmon and looks like salmon. The entry price with the tents for four people was a bit over a hundred bucks. I THOUGHT IT WAS A WASTE OF MONEY

Gyebangsan, standing proudly at nearly 1,600 meters above sea level, is the fifth-highest mountain in South Korea and a must-visit for hiking enthusiasts. The adventure begins at the Unduryeong Rest Area, which sits at an impressive altitude of around 1,000 meters. This makes it an ideal starting point for novice hikers looking to explore its scenic trails.
Definitely a worth snow trekking. It doesn’t take too much time (about 2 hour) to get to the top from the already-high parking spot. Right weather allowed, you’ll be able to experience the otherworldly white world.

Winter wonderland This is the fifth highest mountain in Korea - 1577m above the sea. I started the trekking from Uduryong pass which is the highest pass in Korea ~ 1000 m above the sea level, which makes the trekking easier. I went there after snowing day and it was quite cold, so we need icy chain to be safe. It was freezing cold and tired to reach the top but totally worth it. The view along the way and from the top were amazing.

Return to starting point Hiking took about 3 hours and 30 minutes, and descent took about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The slope wasn't as steep as it should have been for its height, making it less arduous than expected. The campsite is at an elevation of about 700m, so the climb was only about 800m. The leaves had already fallen, so it was too late to see them. Yew colonies were forming as we went higher, but they weren't very abundant. This suggests a period of yew tree replacement. Judging by the abundance of shade-loving plants, the dense forest would be beautiful in the summer. Because it's a rocky mountain, caution is advised on the descent, as it can be quite impactful. The summit offers a stunning, open view in all directions. The weather was clear, and I could see everything in all directions. The wind was a terrifying roar. Ski resort
Nestled in the picturesque Gangwon Province of South Korea, Hoengseong Welli Hilli Park Ski Resort is a sprawling destination that caters to winter sports enthusiasts and summer adventurers alike. Designed by renowned slope architect Paul Matthews, this resort boasts slopes recognized for their safety and size by the International Ski Federation. Since hosting the 2009 Snowboard World Championships, it has become a hotspot for snowboarders, featuring an exclusive Half Pipe Park dedicated to their craft.
First time experiencing korea and skiing, but the experience of the resort itself is pretty good. Came on off-season 9-10march, so the tickets were cheaper, but the slopes were not as good. Made many mistakes coming here, so here's a general guideline of how to get here directly from ICN airport for an inexperienced tourist like me. 1. Arrive in ICN on a morning flight 2. Take the AREX train from ICN to seoul station (~2,000won) 3. Buy KTX tickets to Dunnae station on the second floor. the earliest train for me was 140pm (~ 18,000) 4. Cab from Dunnae station to resort. I used kakao. (~8,000won) Hotel Pros: Despite language barriers, the receptionist was able to effeciently communicate using translating apps The room was clean and included many household items like cups, plates, bowls, pans, and soju glasses. The heating was good. There was even a room for drying Cons: Limited food options, but that was to be expected This place is confusing for tourists purely because of language. A majority of visitors and staff here only speak korean Slopes: Rental was very cheap on off-season, I think 1/3 of full price. I got a 4 hour ticket and rental for 21,000won and 5,000won respectively Only 1 green, 2 blue, and 1.5 black slopes and 1 half pipe was open, the people there were very friendly Rental skiis felt not bad, but I've never skiied before this It's better to bring your own ski goggles Snow is overly soft and mushy on green slopes, hard and grainy on blue and blacks, but pretty manageable Most people here are intermediate or advanced, I think I only saw a handful of beginners. Everything accounted for as a tourist, this is probably one of the cheapest places to ski in from Southeast Asia

It’s the only ski resort I’ve been to in Asia. Compared to US & EU it’s similar. Of course it has unique qualities. The sub levels were not as modern, yet filled with activities not found in other places. For example I was able to practice archery in their full sized range. The rooms were nice but didn’t have traditional beds like in the US…well at least ours didn’t. Rather the floors were heated and we slept on thick fold out pads. Just different. I suspect that’s a nod to the traditional Korean Hanok (old style house). I love Korean food and I’m experimental…but the food buffet was something I wasn’t fond of. The mountain itself was nice as were the views. These were not the biggest, but still fun. To me they seemed on par with east coast ranges of the US. A gave 4 stars because it was a fun resort with lively hills, interesting activities, and everything was clean. It’s not a very far drive or train ride from Seoul. One last tid bit, a fun side adventure. Try to stop at the various gas stations en route and sample the regional eats in the adjacent food courts. It’s nothing like in the US or EU. Maybe it’s a little like rolling up to a grouping of trendy food trucks. Roll that up into your trip plans and you might add some spice figuratively & literally. South Korea might only be the size of the US state of Indiana, however the experience is huge.

They will not let you ski bike here. They would listen to me or give me a chance to ride and prove myself. They kicked me out of the ski resort after I talked with 7 different employees at once. They said ski bikes were against their policies but it says nothing against it.

Very odd experience. Are all Korean ski resorts like this or is this place particularly weird? While waiting for my kid to finish her lesson by the ski school area, I was told by patrols several times to "get off the snow, since you are not wearing ski gear". I said I was waiting to pick up my child at the instructions of your ski instructor and they said "patrol is a different division from the ski school" (so they don't care). I have never been told that it is wrong to step on snow at a ski resort. Is this normal? When I asked why I couldn't the patrol said he wasn't sure but was just following orders. He speculated that the "clean snow may become dirty". I was not blocking anyone's path, just standing at the ski school meeting place. Also, all lift passes must be purchased on the day (no multi-day passes) and the passes are for 2,4, 6 or 8 hours since the time of purchase. So if you want so ski a whole day and night, you must go to the ticket office twice to buy tickets at least for the night ski. Rentals are another problem - you can only rent up to 2 days max. If you are staying 4 days, you must return all of your gear and then re-rent by standing in line at the ticket office! No feel of a fun resort at all. While employees were friendly, they clearly had no idea what was going on (just following orders blindly). The lifts open at 8:30am and the ticket office (where you have to purchase rental tickets as well) open at 8:20am. The only explanation I could come up with is that they don't care about casual skiiers. They only cater to people who buy season passes and have their own gear. Which perhaps would make sense if the slopes were good - but no... very boring and less than average. Also, if you take lessons at the ski school there, "by policy" no matter if you take 1x1 lessons and are quite advanced, they will not take you up to the top on the gondola. Is it because the slopes are too advanced? Absolutely not. It's "just policy". Food in general at ski resorts is bad in Korea so I think they rank "average". Overall, of all the ski resorts in the world I've been to... it really was the worst experience.

Odaesan Mountain, situated in Korea, is a majestic peak known for its vast natural forest and recognized as the national park on February 1, 1975. This mountain covers an area of 298.5 square kilometers and boasts several prominent peaks like Horyeongbong Peak, Sangwangbong Peak, Dongdaesan Mountain, and Durobong Peak.
Wonderful trip! Great hiking and plenty of places to explore. The trails are generally easy/moderate, expect company when the weather is nice. Buddhist temples along the way with water/places to relax. Keep your eyes peeled for some little friends that might join you if you offer snacks! Recommend bringing some tasty treats/meals to enjoy throughout the journey!

Awesome mountain with some truly spectacular views! Odaesan is part of the Odaesan National Park whose trail starts at the Sangwonsa temple. The ascent is very steep and will challenge you despite being labeled moderate. The peak Birobong stands at 1566 meters above sea level. The other peak Sangwonbong, named for the temple at the base stands at 1499 meters. Absolutely fantastic!

(Translated by Google) Most hikes on Odaesan Mountain begin at Sangwonsa Temple and follow a clockwise route, starting from Jeokmyeolbogung, Birobong Peak, Sangwangbong Peak, Bukdaesamgeori, and returning to Sangwonsa Temple. The trail passing Jungdaesajaam Hermitage is much better, so after Jungdaesajaam Hermitage, you'll reach Jeokmyeolbogung in less than an hour, following a path paved with marble. The trail from Jeokmyeolbogung to the summit of Birobong Peak is a standard hike, taking less than an hour, but it's a steep climb with no breaks. From Birobong Peak, you can expect to see nearly every mountain in Gangwon Province. The 30-minute hike to Sangwangbong Peak is lined with yew groves, making the hike worthwhile. However, the descent from Sangwangbong Peak toward Bukdaesamgeori is a tedious and long forest road with virtually no views. Unless you're planning to hike the entire Odaesan route, including Duroryeong Pass and Durobong Peak, this route is not worthwhile. It's wiser to simply return the way you came from Sangwangbong Peak. Gariwangsan is a stunning mountain that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and outdoor adventure. Nestled within a lush forest recreation area, it boasts an array of hiking trails and ski slopes for enthusiasts to explore. The Shortest Course trail begins with a steep ascent through dense woods, leading to the Mahangchi Pass where hikers can take a breather on stone paths adorned with stairs.
(Translated by Google) The start of the hiking trail is a small trail next to a temple called Balsimsa Temple. First of all, the road to Balsimsa Temple is almost like a small forest road. The entrance to Balsimsa Temple is the famous Jangjeon Valley and Jangjeon Village. As you continue entering this valley, there is Balsimsa Temple at the end of the road. You need to be careful when driving, and crossing the street can be difficult, so yielding to driving is a good idea. There is no special parking lot and you have to park on the side of the road, which is limited. Next to the road leading up to Balsimsa Temple, there is a nice sign indicating the trailhead. You can go up here. The first kilometer is a fairly steep climb, and this climb continues until the Majangchi intersection. At Majangchi Intersection, you must go up the stairs where you can see the Wild Ginseng Consecration Pagoda. From here the climb continues, although not as steeply, to the top. There are no signposts at all until the 3km mark on Mt. Gariwang. If you don't turn off onto another road from Majangchi, just follow the road. After passing the two peaks, the summit is a place that looks like a transmission tower in the distance. It's a climb up to the top and the view from the top is truly spectacular. I think the sunrise will be beautiful too. The unobstructed view from the summit is fantastic. It is not a difficult mountain if you control your strength only on the first climb. The view from the top is so good that I would choose it as a mountain I would like to visit again. The view from the observatory before reaching the summit is also nice. I highly recommend you go up there. It seems like a 3-hour round trip would be good, it's comfortable because it's not a rocky mountain, and there aren't many stairs. Personally, I recommend climbing up from Janggumoki, which is well maintained and allows you to enjoy the beauty of the moss valley. After passing through a valley full of ferns, you come to an alpine area with huge yew trees. Perhaps because the soil is so good and there is so much water, there are so many large trees that you can't get a good view of the other mountains until you reach the top. Still, from the top, you can get a good view of the surrounding large mountains such as Odaesan Mountain, Seoraksan Mountain, and Balwangsan Mountain. On the Habong side, the Alpine Stadium and forest road that were built during the Winter Olympics still remain. If you follow the forest road, you can go down to Gariwangsan Mountain Natural Recreation Forest. It would be difficult to take the mountain road from Habong without going to the forest road, but since there is nothing to see on Habong, I recommend just going down from Jungbong to the recreation forest. It is a mountain that gives the feeling of the primordial nature stirring. Mountain peak
Baegunsan is a captivating forested peak that beckons hikers with its stunning trails and diverse plant life. Nestled alongside the picturesque Donggang River, this mountain offers breathtaking views, especially from its summit. While the hike can be challenging—particularly the steep ascent after an easy start—the journey rewards adventurers with enchanting landscapes and a sense of tranquility.
(Translated by Google) The route up from Baekunsanbang or Baekryong Cave Exploration Center parking lot is the fastest course and is chosen by many people. The reason why this course is good is that the view of the beautiful Donggang River flowing from the entrance road is impressive. It is about 2.2 kilometers from the Baekryong Cave Exploration Center to the summit. The first 400 meters are easy, but you have to climb up the slope for the next 1 kilometer. The sign also shows that the steep slope is 1.1 km and the gentle slope is 3.6 km. From here the incline begins and you have to continue climbing for 600 meters. Afterwards, if you take a breather on the ridge and slowly descend, you will reach the summit. There is no summit view and there is little wind. On the contrary, it can be said that the wind blows very strongly in winter. Although it is said to be a steep slope, it is not that difficult.

Buses depart from Woljeongsa every 10 to 20 minutes every hour. The advantage of using the descent route from Sangwonsa Temple to Woljeongsa Temple is that it requires less physical strength since the route is downhill. There are not as many ups and downs as expected, so the level of difficulty is not high. There are not enough benches or shaded rest areas and there are many stone paths, so caution is required. At the ski resort, you'll find a convenient shuttle service that makes getting around a breeze. They offer an extensive rental selection, including costumes, helmets, ski shoes, and sticks to ensure you're fully equipped for your snowy adventure. The staff is incredibly helpful and ready to assist you with any needs. However, if you're vegetarian, it might be wise to bring your own food as options can be limited. Plus, there's a locker room available for storing your belongings while you hit the slopes!

Awesome indoor water park for a different type of activity during winter time. You need to wear a swimming cap in the pool, so do bring one along, otherwise, you can rent one at 2000 won. The tornado slide is very awesome, there are two hot jacuzzi and an outdoor hot swimming pool! That’s just so fun. There is also a “bath pool” with water jet massages. We have lots of fun here. Towel is provided and you need to purchase/ bring your own shampoo/conditioner/shower gel.

I was quite reluctant to do this because it’s so cold during winter but kids insisted. And as it turns out, it’s amazing experience. It’s like indoor water park with slides and heated pools together with sauna and shower areas where mum and daughter can scrub each other like in Kdramas. Kids love the tornado slides (required min. 120cm height), and I enjoyed the two big heated pools. Note rental of safety jackets (5,000 won each) is a must in this pool but they didn’t enforce swim caps. Best part is coming out of the water park feeling all refreshed (aches from all the skiing) and warm despite the cold winter.

This is one of valuable place to stay and enjoy winter in Korea. It's not terribly crowded during weekdays and has many activities. Skiing and snowboarding is the one and fun snow sled for kids. And also there is a swimming pool where you can have fun in the warm water. This is especially great if you have children under the age of 13. It is more attractive because accommodation and meals are not expensive. The downside is that it is in a remote location.

Mountain cable car
Mt. Balwangsan Cable Car offers a thrilling ride to the top of the mountain, with stunning views along the way. It's recommended to purchase tickets online in advance to avoid long queues and save money. The ride takes about 20 minutes one way, and at the peak, visitors can enjoy a skywalk and breathtaking scenery. However, it's important to dress warmly as temperatures can drop significantly, especially during winter.
This was the highlight of our visit in South Korea. It's so cold during our visit. Additional cold due to strong wind at the top of Mt. Balwangsan. If you loved Skiing, this is your best spot.
Dexter F — Google review
A surprisingly long ride up to the top station. Mid week so not busy. Early May and surprisingly chilly - come prepared with warm kit and windbreakers. Beautiful facilities with restaurants. It must be amazing in the skiing season!
Vincent O — Google review
I recommend buying the ticket online because it's cheaper. The queue took about 2 hours. The ride is about 20 minutes one way. There is a skywalk at the top of the mountain. Unfortunately, because of the strong wind during my visit, they closed it so I just took some photos there. Make sure to dress warmly because it was so freezing there. Maybe it was around -20 degrees celcius during my visit. If you like skiing, you can go down by skiing. The queue for going down is not as long as the queue for going up. The view at the top is so beautiful.
Ellana A — Google review
The Bangwalsan cable car is awesome. The building was huge and had several restaurants, cafes, gift shops, etc. There were a lot of people who wanted to ski. The fee for the round trip was 25,000W. Very expensive. Make sure you explore the area like skywalk and stamp your walkway It took around 30 minutes to reach the peak station. Unfortunately, there was fog and a little rain. We couldn't see much of the scenery.
Norsa'adah — Google review
I suggest you to book ticket in advance before you come here. The cable car ride was quite long, maybe about 10 mins. And I didnt wait at all. I could see lots of people who want to ride this cable car to ski and they have to wait for long time in a long queue on the other side of the door. This cable car will take us to the top where people can enjoy skiing and visitors like me can take photos or just take a walk enjoying the view. Actually, it was super cold with very strong wind that day, and I was not prepared for the severe weather, my mistake, so I couldn't take many pics. 😫
Debs3012 — Google review
Balwangsan Cable Car service starts at Dragon Plaza Food Court on the 2nd level in yongpyong resort in Korea. It is a very popular service and is busy at every time of the day. Luckily for us, it was not too crowded. The cable car travels to a peak which is at an altitude of around 1458m. The cable car travels a distance of about 3km and travels at a speed of 5m/s. The cable car transports you to the top of a mountain where there is a viewing point where at the end of the bridge the floor is made of glass. The summit is a very good place for pictures as the view from the scenery makes for a perfect backdrop. The cable car service ends at 6pm at the base station. The service ends at 6:30pm at the summit. It is the only way off the peak. The cable car ride to the peak is a must visit if you are in pyeong chang as it is probably the best attraction there.

(Translated by Google) The indoor garden appears to have been a cafe in the past, but I was disappointed to see that it now seems to be only minimally maintained. When you purchase an admission ticket, you will receive a 6,000 won cafe drink coupon. You can actually think of it as being able to see the vast garden by drinking a drink. The interior of the cafe was very clean, spacious and comfortable with its antique interior. The grass outside seemed to be well maintained and the children loved it because they could run around and play. When you leave the cafe door, you can see the mountains in the distance, and the scenery is amazing. There isn't much to see, so it's not recommended to go there on purpose. There is a prop shop and a cafe on the upper floor, so the view is good.

Water & Amusement Parks
Phoenix Pyeongchang Blue Canyon is a versatile destination in Gangwondo, offering a hotel, plaza, restaurant, water park, ski park, and English ski and snowboarding lessons. The water park features various pools including wave pool, massage pool, children's pool, outdoor jacuzzi pool and indoor warm jacuzzi pool. Although the slide is closed during winter, lifeguards are attentive to ensure safety.
A wonderfully situated swimming pool next to the ski resort. There are a few different pools available for different needs. There is the waves pool, massage pool, children pool, outdoor jaccuzzi pool and an indoor warm jaccuzzi pool. The slide is not in operation as it is winter. The lifeguards on duty are very vigilant. Whistles were blown a few times as we were playing with the snow and climbing out of the pool onto the outdoor pool deck to walk in the snow. With their presence, we were assured our safety. A big thank you to the life guards on duty. So sorry for making you guys worry. We were so engrossed that we did not take any photos of this place.

It's a nice water park with indoor warm water that you can enjoy at Winter time. You can flow on the water tunnel to the outdoor area to feel the snowy weather and watch the stars. It's kind of romantic. The swimsuits in there are very expensive especially on the ladies'. Be reminded to bring your own Swimsuit to there. There is onsen at the side of the changing room. Be reminded to spend a good time there as well!

I visited yesterday with 3 kids including a 12month old. The employee at the entrance said i need to show them a proof of something which shows that the baby is under 36month. Seriously? You can't get an employee who can tell the difference between an infant and 3yr olds?? So i told the employee that i don't carry baby's passport to waterpark(i don't know if i can even call this place water park. It was about 1/10 of great wolf lodge-size wise- in anaheim california.). Long story short. 1. I think the management should hire employees with some common sense. 2. This place is pathetic. Sososo tiny, shame on yourselves that you call this place water park. 3. Water was so dirty, my kids immediately got atopic dermatitis. 4.I Do not recommend to ANYONE * adding some more info.-renting the life vest was (mas o menos)6dollars. We weren't informed that it was mandatory (even for grown-ups). Hey manangement! If you want to make it mandatory, it has to be free of charge just like great wolf lodge. *also smelly restrooms. Noinbong Peak, located in Odaesan National Park, can be accessed via the shortest route from Jingogae Rest Area. The trail starts at a free parking area with the last restroom available near the parking lot. Although the hike is gentle, spanning about 4.1 km and taking approximately 2 hours for beginners, it's important to bring crampons due to snowy conditions.

(Translated by Google) Visit in August 2022, with lush greenery. (Jingogae – Noinbong – Nakyeong Falls – Guryong Falls course) * Jingogae -> Noinbong: The hiking trail is well-maintained and not difficult to climb, but there is not much to see compared to the way down. * Noinbong -> Nakyeong Falls: This course has a very steep slope, making it more difficult for people with bad knees to go down. The Noinbong Shelter, located a short distance from Noinbong towards Nakyeong Falls, has a restroom (which is not very clean, so I would recommend using it only in times of crisis) and allows cooking using open flames such as burners. * Nakyeong Falls -> Guryong Falls: There was the most things to see. The strangely shaped cliffs, reminiscent of the Cheonbuldong Valley of Seoraksan Mountain, and the valley water flowing between large rock crevices create a spectacular view. (Original) 2022년, 녹음이 짙은 8월 방문.
