Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Nestled at the base of Mount Hodo, Hodosan Shrine is a revered religious site with a rich history dating back to 111. This shrine boasts intricate carvings and a main hall that was reconstructed during the early Meiji Period. It is also famous for its association with the legendary hero Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, who is rumored to have bathed in a nearby pond.
Chasing autumn leaves, arrived around 6 PM. The temple was lighted up and we had the rare pleasure of sharing this with just a few others. Only November!
Celia — Google review
Visited on 6 Nov. Autumn leaves for this year are late, so the shrine is not so pretty. Nevertheless the shrine is still impressive
Cher K — Google review
Surrounded by very tall trees. Parking is easy.
Boon L — Google review
Absolutely worth coming to see the plum blossoms! It was my first time witnessing such beautiful and fragrant plum blossoms – truly delightful. Taking the ropeway round trip costs 600 yen, and if you come by car, parking is 500 yen. I highly recommend coming here to relax; starting from January, you can enjoy the plum blossoms, and they should be in full bloom by February.
Ambrose S — Google review
Beautiful, well-maintained shrine. Momiji making it even better. 10-15 min walk from Nagatoro station, slightly uphill. We went on a Saturday morning a bit earlier than most of the crown. At around 11am as we were departing, more people are pouring in so I think it can get crowded on weekend peak hours.
Xyra N — Google review
A really well cared for, clean and beautiful. Free parking at the bottom of the shrine. Not very stroller friendly because if the stairs and pebbles so baby carry or walking is best.
Danielle M — Google review
Quiet place. The shrine is very beautiful and same with all places in Japan very clean and organize. A lot of parking spots. A quick tour will be sufficient.
Kevin R — Google review
Hodosan shrine enshrines the Emperor Jimmu who founded Japan. I instantly felt an atmosphere, enhanced by the shinto music playing on the grounds, as we approached the torii of the shrine. The benevolence of the shrine is believed to be protection from disasters. It is a common place for hikers to pay homage as one of the three Kami (Gods / Deity) enshrined here is a mountain deity. But it is also because the shrine has a sub branch at the top of Mt Hodo - hikers pray at the base shrine and then climb to the top of Mt Hodo and devote there too. The architecture of the almost 2000 year old shrine is magnificent. The various auxiliary shrines are impressive too. And the grounds are beautiful. It is easily accessible by public transport too, as you can walk up from Nagatoro station in about 10 to 15 minutes.

Coffee shop

Asami Reizou is a bustling dessert shop known for its shaved ice treats topped with a variety of sauces, including squeezed orange and red bean paste. During the hot summer months, this popular spot often sees long lines reminiscent of those at Tokyo Disneyland. The shop offers classic and innovative flavors in a spacious restaurant, but be prepared for potential queues. Visitors recommend arriving early to avoid the wait or enjoying waiting benches and seats if available.
Lovely place :) Apparently they used naturally formed ice!
Martín R — Google review
Most popular shaved ice shop in Nagatoro. Their ice is not made by freezer. They use natural ice. So when you eat it don’t need to bite like as general shaved ice. It will be naturally melt in your mouth. Price is pretty expensive even though just shaved ice. This is only negative point.

Came here on mid September 2022 around noon. We didn't have to wait for long even though there was 4 groups in front of us. Our kakigori came right after we ordered it (less than a minute). IMO overall the kakigori tasted nice but rather pricey.
Eric S — Google review
Worth the detour here on route to Tokyo from Gunma. The Asami’s Super Special with the wasanbon syrup and 3 types of paste - red bean, green bean and white bean, is the one to order. The paste were all so silky smooth and the wasanbon syrup wasn’t too sweet. It felt like I was eating off a snowy peak mountain!

Amazing mocha favor with red bean, the shaved ice was given full of the bowl. Mocha taste is really good, also offered condensed milk. Even though a little bit pricey, but it’s a cozy place to take a break and have afternoon tea. Ice bowl price around 1300~1700yen, drinks around 600~800yen.
Hanny C — Google review
About as pricy as Thailand’s “After You” shaved ice, which is a rich flavored decorative one, but this one here gives a different sensation. Natural cave ice made of super soft water provides smooth silky texture I never experienced before. Worth a try.

Scenic spot
Nature & Parks
Geologic Formations
Nagatoro Iwadatami is a stunning forested river canyon with layered rock formations, offering activities like wooden-boat cruises, rafting, and hiking. The 6-km long Nagatoro Valley is designated as a place of scenic beauty and natural monument.
The place is not a day trip from Haneda Airport, but can be reached in less than two hours from Omiya, a city in Saitama Prefecture, or from lodgings in the retro area (by train). The shaved ice here is very famous, but you will have to wait more than 2 hours for your order. The fresh greenery in Saitama can be enjoyed from late April. Summer is very hot and humid. The best time to visit is in May, before the rainy season starts.
The W — Google review
Scenic spot with rock formations and a cool river. You can buy tickets for rafting and riding a boat but the lines are long.
レハ — Google review
When you walk far away enough from the area everyone is in, it is a nice place to relax and watch some frogs. If you move the frogs will bury themselves underground, but if you stay very still, they'll emerge, and they are very cute. It seems you can ride boats here too, but it's just a nice place to walk along the river really.
Hercules W — Google review
A really beautiful place to have a stroll around. Trails are parallel to the river with many spots to sit and have a snack, take pictures and look at the beautiful river view.
Matan K — Google review
Too many tourists. I haven't been out much this past 10 years in Japan. It was a shock. The area is picturesque, and a nice drive, lots of winding roads (if you like that sort of thing). The actual area around the one little rocky outcrop, it's your regular fare of touristy shops. Nothing I would write home about. The boat rides were also busy. I don't really see it as a too relaxing. I think there are better places to enjoy the water and solitude.
MR. R — Google review
It is an unusual terrain with a series of huge rock formations. There are many people near the boat pier, but as you move away from that area, the number of people decreases. It is a very relaxing place rich in nature. The kids enjoyed their rocky adventure. We can find many tadpoles and frogs here. The view of the boats on the river is also beautiful. The boats are very popular and you may have to wait in line for quite a while to get tickets.
Rintaro — Google review
Saitama is quite far, but definitely a unique experience! Its beauty and simplicity makes the place even better. It’s also a great place for adventure, as there are many different things to explore.
Larissa G — Google review
Beautiful place to enjoy the nature. But not really recommended to visit in winters (of course you can just mark it off on the checklist). Preferably go in spring/summer. DON'T do the boat ride. It's so useless. 1000 yen for a 20 minutes ride. They may shorten the ride according to them but will not change the price. NOT WORTH. Other than that, great place to enjoy nature and good food.

Cafe
Asami Reizo is a renowned teahouse and dessert shop in Nagatoro, known for its retro-style ambiance and delicious shaved ice. The establishment boasts a plant-filled garden, adding to its laid-back atmosphere. With a 130-year history, it offers Chichibu specialty shaved ice that melts instantly in your mouth due to its thin shaving technique. The flavors are unique, including roasted green tea, chestnut, and soba-walnut.
All season recommended Japanese luxury shaved ice. All shaved ice costs between ¥1,000 - ¥2,000. Asami Reizo’s shaved ice is very unique. How much you eat it, you would not experience headache because the ice is shaved very thinly, it melts in your mouth instantly. In addition, they use ice blocks naturally made in mountains like Kristoff in a Disney film “Frozen” cut out. Flavor of shaved ice is very unique, too. We ordered roasted-green-tea, chestnut, and soba-walnut shaved ice. They all taste amazing, but our favorite was soba-walnut. I think combination of roasted bitter flavor of soba and creamy walnut are perfect. It is good to eat salted plum, or umeboshi in the middle of eating to refresh taste in your mouth. The inside of shop is Japanese classic house look and so adorable. Every displays are very Japanese and modern. In summer season, there is usually 3-4 hours waiting line, but in early April, there was no line to enter. If you are foreigners, this is a must try food because you would not be able to experience this anywhere on earth, but in certain places in Japan. There are a few branch shops within Nagaroro 長瀞town. I wish there is an English menu.

I am not a fan of shaved ice, but this is really tasty! I would recommend to eat in, they have special flavours in cafe menu, which are not available for take out, like shaved ice with umeshu! Also the one with black sugar was really nice. The cafe had this very Japanese atmosphere to eat, so if you want to feel like you're in Japan this is the place to visit.

Museums
Saitama Prefectural Museum of Nature offers a diverse collection showcasing local ecosystems, featuring taxidermy specimens, minerals, and dinosaur fossils. The museum provides an educational experience for visitors interested in the natural world. Additionally, Chichibu Onsen Mangan-no-Yu is a nearby day-trip hot spring facility located along the picturesque Hinosawa River. The alkaline hot spring water is known for its skin benefits and therapeutic properties, making it a popular destination for relaxation and rejuvenation.
The megalodon figure that greets you at the entrance is gave me the first life size comparison. The many tactile displays made for a very engaging visit. About 70% of the displays came with English explanation. The museum focuses on geology and fauna in various environments found in Japan. Definitely a good place to visit. Plus, there's also a good macha drink shop to visit within walking distance.

I learned a lot about Saitama and Japan, and I found the geological exhibits really interesting. There was also a showcase of a lot of the animals that roam or have once roamed the area. They have a lot of different fossils of exticlnct animals. I really enjoyed the megalodon. It's only 200 yen (2 bucks ish) if you are in Nagatoro River rafting and want to spend time learning about the area you've just rafted this is the place to go.
SYRI4L — Google review
A small museum but very well done, and really a lot of cool stuff inside. You can even buy some fossils for really cheap and the entry to the museum was like 200 yen. On top of that the museum had the best taxidermy animals I've seen. Also insects, giant fossils, few dinosaurs, plenty of interesting rocks and loads of stuffed animals.

(Translated by Google) I came here based on word of mouth from a friend. 4/12 Came to the store around 1:30pm on Saturday. A tea shop near Kaminagatoro Station A gravel parking lot that can accommodate about 4 cars is located to the left of the front of the store. A shop located a little far from the main street When I arrived, there were already 3 cars parked and there were no customers in front of the restaurant, so I was wondering about the menu. For the matcha latte and hojicha latte, you can choose syrups with different flavors, and you can also choose between soft serve or whipped cream toppings...and there's also a seasonal menu... For now, make a cold classic rich matcha latte with whipped ice and make it 1.5 times thicker. Chocolate sauce and brown rice flakes are free toppings, so of course I asked for them. Matcha latte in a large cup❣️ It's topped with soft serve ice cream and whipped cream, and looks delicious with chocolate sauce and brown rice. The first sip is bittersweet and the matcha is strong!! Deliciousness that is irresistible for matcha lovers!! But as you continue drinking it, the cream gets mixed in and the sweetness of the chocolate melts into it, making it a little sweeter and even more delicious. The brown rice that occasionally pops into your mouth is a nice accent. Of course we also have hot lattes. Hot sandwiches also seem to be a popular item. The hojicha latte was also strong and delicious! The matcha is brewed after receiving your order, so it may take a while for it to be served. But I thought I'd definitely stop by when I came to Nagatoro❣️ (Original)

The soup had a strong dashi aroma, and was rich and flavorful, yet had a clean aftertaste. The pork was tender and not too greasy, making it an excellent match with the soba noodles. The portion was just right, and the delicious flavor soaked into my body after a workout, leaving me very satisfied. The restaurant's interior had a calm, old-fashioned atmosphere, and it felt cozy and nostalgic. However, on the day I visited, the air conditioning was a little old and not very effective, making it a bit hot. Still, the food and atmosphere were appealing enough, and it's a restaurant I'd like to try different soba noodles again if I'm in the area again.

Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant
Kikuka Shokudo is a popular spot known for its delicious cutlet curry and miso katsudon. The crispy, thick cutlet in the curry and the melty miso sauce on top of the katsudon are particularly praised. The shop has a Showa-era feel, and the spice in the curry is refreshing. Visitors also appreciate the rich and delicious miso flavor in their dishes.
Outstanding food. Had the Miso Katsu and the Udon with raw egg. Small family run kitchen, they also brought us some extra tempura!

On November 8, 2020, a reservation was made for Matsutake Mushroom Gozen at the Nagatoro YŪRIN CLUB, a Japanese restaurant. Despite arriving early at 12:05 instead of the scheduled time of 12:30 due to the complete reservation system, entry was granted without any issues. The meal consisted of a small yet delicious matsutake mushroom along with flavorful matsutake mushroom rice and steamed clay pot.

Only customers with reservations are allowed, so you can use it at your leisure. This time I ordered a seasonal autumn meal. This is a set meal centered around matsutake mushroom rice and steamed clay pots. Considering the price of 2,200 yen, it was incredibly filling and delicious. [Added on 2021/04/28] I visited the other day and had the spring meal. It was a really delicious dish made with bamboo shoots. Is the volume okay with just bamboo shoots? I was worried at first, but the volume of the kamameshi at the end made me feel full. When making a reservation, I asked for a hometown tax donation meal ticket, and was informed of the spring meal. However, I would have been happy if they would have informed me of this at the time of booking, as an additional amount was required at the time of checkout. There are table seats in the tatami room and in the back, but the back has the feel of a mountain hut-style restaurant in a summer resort. However, the tea was self-service in paper cups😅. I had decided to try the famous Waraji Katsudon when I arrived in Chichibu, so I ordered it without hesitation. When I opened the lid of the strangely fresh bowl, I found two pieces of waraji cutlet. It's a brown world with no cabbages or anything. It wasn't as oily as it looked and I ate it easily. It's right next to the shrine, so it's probably crowded in the summer. Nature & Parks
Lunar Stone Maple Park is a spacious and picturesque destination featuring stunning maple trees, striking rock formations, and a serene riverside setting. It's an ideal spot to witness the vibrant colors of autumn foliage, especially during November when special illuminations bring out the beauty of the red leaves at night. Despite being popular, the park offers ample space for visitors to capture breathtaking photos and take in panoramic views of the river, sky, and mountains.
Even though this year (2024) color comes late, but the lighting was good. Last year was awesome. This place is always good for hangout with FnF
Iftekhar ( — Google review
The lunar stone was great. It is an excellent place to hang out with family. The river is good! You can take a boat, but it closes at 3 p.m. We tried to ride a boat but could not reach it because it was closed at 3 p.m. If you miss the boat, you can still enjoy the riverside. Throwing the stone into the river can be fun and bring many laughs. Parking is about 400-500 yen per day. The entrance for the lunar festival is about 100 yen. It gets better at night; many local Japanese go there, but not many Westerners. The toilet is the worst in Japan! Dirty and full of garbage. The street is also narrow, so drive it slowly and carefully.

Plan for the trip properly as there are a number of attractions in this area. Coming just for the autumn 🍁 foliage may not be cost effective. There are few flaming reds but the scene was not breathtaking as of the visit on Nov 24, 2024.

Great place for "momiji", lots of color in one place, in the good weather you can get river, sky, mountain, and the maple trees view. Even though it's a little bit crowded but the park is quite big so everyone can get plenty space for taking photos.

The energy of river, rapids and gorge meets the platform here; the station hums with summer laughter, autumn leaves and hikers’ boots. I heard that the outdoor seating area at むらた, a soba noodle shop, allows dogs. To avoid the crowds, I arrived early for lunch and sat in the back of the terrace where there were no ashtrays. Behind my seat, there was space for my dog to relax in the sun while I enjoyed my meal.

It was cold when it was served, but both the katsu and miso pork were tender and delicious. The rice was soaked in the sauce, which made it a delicious meal on its own, and the side dishes of konjac and pickled Chinese cabbage really brought out the Chichibu flavor. Soba noodle shop
The soba noodle shop, known as "そば処 うちだ," situated near Nagatoro Station, attracts numerous tourists on Sundays, making it a challenge to find seating. However, Kami Nagatoro Station located nearby offers a more tranquil atmosphere. One can indulge in their delectable soba noodles accompanied by an abundance of mushrooms at the establishment nestled amidst three other soba restaurants across from the station.
(Translated by Google) I came to this restaurant because I wanted to eat walnut sauce. The soba noodles were also handmade and delicious. The tempura was freshly prepared, and I was particularly satisfied with the maitake mushroom tempura. There are a few seats inside the restaurant, but since I came here during lunch on a holiday, it was quite crowded, but I was served politely. There is also a parking lot next door. However, payment is only in cash. I want to come again. It's so close that you can see it from Kaminagatoro Station, and there's a parking lot for about 10 cars, so it's easy to get to by train or car. The inside of the store is spacious and has table seats, counter seats, and tatami seats. The restroom is also spacious and has handrails, so it seems easy for people in wheelchairs and with children to use it. Before the soba noodles came out, we first had miso oden. The piping hot konjac and rich miso are sure to be delicious! I regret coming by car. You'll want to have a drink. I had the soba noodles served in a tempura sauce and an additional walnut soup. Soba noodles are whitish and fragrant. The walnut soup is not a mushy type, but is smooth and full of walnut flavor and aroma. The lemon that comes with it does a nice job. This is delicious! Hodosan Zoo

Zoo
Hodosan Zoo is a budget-friendly attraction with a picturesque view of Nagatoro. The zoo houses various animals such as goats, rabbits, monkeys, deer, tanuki, and pigs. While some visitors find the zoo to be unremarkable compared to others and note that the cages could be cleaner and greener for the animals' well-being, they appreciate the friendly staff and reasonable pricing.
tiny but cute place. There're not a lot of people as it's in a tiny town that is quite hard to reach. And the zoo itself is up on the mountain, you can either hike up or take a ropeway up. The ticket price is reasonable as well as the feed for the animals. If you love feeding these little furry creatures, we recommend the limited-quantity bucket, it's much more worth it than buying the smaller 100-yen bowls. The events like the walk of guinea pigs and ducks are really cute and can bring smiles to your faces.

ANIMAL CRUELTY!!!!!!!! DONT GO HERE!!!! Only go here if you want to cry from sadness at how badly the animals are treated here. The sheep was STARVED, the fox was depressed, the turtle was DEAD, the rabbits were confined to tiny cages and one of them had NO WATER IN 35 DEGREE HEAT!!! The monkeys had no trees and had metal poles to play with that burnt their feet because of the heat. There is no enrichment for the animals. They are all sad and depressed, locked in a tiny cage. Some of them exhibited severe neurological damage due to the confinement - walking around in circles and pacing nonstop. This is so heartbreaking. SHAME ON THIS PLACE!!! It should be shut down immediately!!!
EMILY D — Google review
It's fun but... Cages are dirty, not enough green inside the cages. I felt bad for the animals (but this might just be me). Staff are very nice, price is very good. I would actually be okay to pay more. I also liked feeding the animals! I'm not sure but I think this zoo has rescue animals and that's great.
Karla S — Google review
You can pet the rabbits and goats in this mini zoo but the places where the other animals lived were dirty and seems the staffs didn’t take care of them such as cleaning their stables and cages! The entrance fee is quite expensive as well!
Chris ( — Google review
It was very upsetting to visit this zoo and I don't recommend bringing sensitive children here. One of mine cried when she saw the condition of the animals, particularly the three legged deer (pictured) who is on its own and can do nothing but sit or stand. Some of the Japanese monkeys fought constantly and some, including a baby, had scars and/or fresh bloody wounds. Many of the rabbits have eye infections. It was a really horrendous experience. However, the young staff we talked to were very nice and I hope they can work to make the zoo a better place for the animals. Also, they have signs up to say they are improving some of the enclosures. And I give it two stars instead of one with the hope that the animals came to the zoo injured and that their injuries aren't from lack of care. With the Japanese monkeys who had fresh bloody wounds: maybe this happens in the wild too?
Lynda ( — Google review
This is a cute zoo that is normal for Japanese standards, but quite upsetting for Westerners. The animal enclosures were small and dirty. The giant tortoises were kept on cobblestones with barely any space. There is a fox near the middle who looks to be neglected and constantly looking for people to interact with. The monkeys were fighting all the time, with baby monkeys and adults getting into conflict. If you believe in animal rights, do not visit. If you are looking for a place to gape and gawk at monkeys fighting, make the hike to Hodosan Zoo.
Victor — Google review
my 1st time here.. & I enjoyed 😉
Pola R — Google review
The most depressing zoo I have ever visited in my life. Pens are mostly mud and cobblestone with no grass, animals look sick and filthy (damaged feathers, discolored fur, eye infections, a deer was missing a hoof), a tortoise had such a tiny cobblestone enclosure it could barely turn and there was no drinking water.

Mountains
Hodosan, also known as Chichibus Mt. Hodosan, is a 1,631-ft. mountain in Nagatoro area that offers a variety of attractions for visitors. The mountain features a colorful shrine and is famous for its beautiful flowers, including wintersweet, plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, and azaleas. Visitors can take an aerial tramway to the summit to enjoy the stunning views and vibrant blooms.
Gorgeous autumn colors and there were groves of plum (ume) trees on the top of the mountain so spring would be lovely, too! Highly recommend it.
Joelle K — Google review
A colorful shrine, mountain hiking, richly flavored mushroom soup (at the entrance to the cable car), and a cable car ride to the top to see the plum blossoms. This early in the season (end of February) it’s mainly the yellow plum blossoms, but by mid-March the pink, red, and white blossoms should be in full bloom. Have a bowl of fresh mushroom soup before riding the cable car and if you’re still hungry there is charcoal roasted ayu (a river fish similar to trout). Or, wait till you get to the top of the mountain and have a bowl of soba, udon, or ramen. Access by car (about 90 minutes north of Tokyo in Saitama Prefecture) or by train (free shuttle from the train station to the cable car base). Makes for a nice day trip, plenty of outdoor open space, and if you have youngsters they’ll enjoy the cable car ride).

The journey to Mt. Hodo Ropeway Rest House proved delightful, as the scenery was breathtaking and the rest area pleasantly uncrowded. Sights & Landmarks
Historic Sites
Former Arai Family Residence is a historic site dating back to the Edo period, once belonging to the village headman. The building features chestnut boards and a shingled roof, offering visitors a glimpse into traditional architecture. Designated as a nationally important cultural property, it was constructed during the era of the 8th Shogun Yoshimune and relocated in 1975. The residence requires an admission fee for entry and is located near Nagatoro Town Local Museum.
The Former Arai Family Residence is a beautiful and well-maintained silkworm raising farmhouse (古民家 kominka). It’s very worthwhile to get a guided tour, which is free as long as the museum staff have time to take you around. It’s ¥200 entry and located behind the Nagatoro Town Museum which is included in the price. There is parking right outside which is shared with Nagatorogura, the sake brewery which is across the carpark. This farmhouse was originally located on the other side of town closer to Nogami I believe, but was donated to the town and moved to this location for public display. When the authorities discovered the Arai farmhouse had been renovated three times they restored it to its original condition. The Arai family were silkworm farmers and the history is fascinating. Imagine the whole first floor covered in silkworms munching away at a whole bunch of leaves! During this period the family slept upstairs. The farmhouse looks out over an aspect of farmland and has a stand of bamboo next to it, so it’s very natural and serene. In spring the farmland is dotted with cherry trees in bloom between the fields. See if you you find where the hidden newlyweds bedroom is - let’s just say that the door that looks like a cupboard well, it’s not a cupboard! Well worth a visit.

(It seems that high windows were added after the renovation) It has a very old-fashioned appearance, with a shingle roof covered with stones. It is possible to take a stroll around the building except for the Okunodee (Okuma) and the second floor. Although the roofs and scales are different, I felt that there were many places with similar structures, such as the chaya Honjin near Gunma Yokogawa, where there was a stable inside the house and the location of the bath. From the deck, you can see the bamboo forest outside, which gives it a nice atmosphere. Visited this place on Monday, May 26th 2025, around noon time. It was cloudy and cool. Nice place to stroll, walk your dog, enjoy the fresh air and beautiful flowers. There are garden benches where you can sit, enjoy the view, or take pictures. Two years ago I came here when it was sunny. A nice old man taught me where and how to take good pictures. He was a professional photographer and he volunteered to help visitors enjoy this flower garden. The entrance ticket is 300 yen. It was a nice place to sit and enjoy the fresh air.

(Translated by Google) I had been interested in this place for a while, so I went to see it the other day. At first, the garden was larger than I expected, and part of the way through, the ground became uneven, so it may be a bit difficult for wheelchair users. (Personally, it felt like walking through a field.) I think that sneakers are less likely to get dirty and less likely to get injured than high heels. The paths in the garden are wide enough for two people, so I think it's fine to move around in a single line. From here on, I will give my impressions. Personally, I felt that the place's pros and cons depend on the weather and the number of tourists. I thought that the best time to visit is when there are relatively few tourists and the weather is stable. And the fields of poppies blooming all over the place are very beautiful and it's a very relaxing place. Sit on a bench with a cup of coffee and relax while the cool breeze blows. Or, you can spend a blissful time walking around the garden admiring the flowers with your family or partner. The parking lot is large, and it is easy to access by car or on foot.

Arakawa Line Kudari, Saitama

4.1
(409)
Arakawa Line Kudari in Saitama offers boating trips along the Arakawa River, providing stunning views of cherry blossoms and fall colors. The boat is well-equipped with amenities like kotatsu to ensure a comfortable ride, while expert boatmen navigate the rocky waters. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Hodosan Shrine, Nagatoro Iwadatami, and Saitama Prefectural Museum of Nature.
Fun activity for all ages but you do need to be able to climb in and out of the raft. Wildlife and beautiful scenery. Staff explained some fun facts along the way, however in Japanese only. The ride takes about 30 min, but you might want to add another 30 min in case you are on the next scheduled ride, and another 15 min for its shuttle bus from and to the sites. Came on a weekday in late November and it's still busy. You may want to reserve your seat online on popular dates and seasons, or if you are on a tight schedule. Free parking on site if you are a customer. Recommended on a beautiful day such as ours.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Although we did not speak much Japanese, we were able to book a ticket for the boat ride. A bus transfer was included to bring you to the departure point for the boat ride. We visited during winter the tourist center told us that this was the only operator opened during the low season. The boat is well equipped with a kotatsu (炬燵) and it made the ride very comfortable. The boatman expertly navigated the boat in the rocky waters. A few times, it looked like we narrowly escaped collision with a large rock, but trust the boatmen. They knew what they were doing. One of them provided a live commentary along the way. Although I couldn't understand a word, the ride was still very enjoyable nevertheless.

Friendly management and friendly tourists, we had a thrilling trip to nagataro and Saitama ken bushes during year 2002. Short yet wonderful boat ride. Round white stones and extremely cold water, what a lovely feel. In the midst of a thick forest, it was nice to avail services of crossing in relatively rough river.

This place is beautiful but only in spring and autumn!! Summer is really hot and no many activities to do here. I visited in summer found nothing interesting and too long from tokyo. Views are good on the way.

Perhaps the most exciting activity in the area, this 'Line Kudari' (river cruise) takes you down the Arakawa River on a wooden boat. It only lasts about 20 minutes and the rapids are not that hair-raising, but it's super fun with exquisite scenery.

According to the restaurant's pamphlet, Yurin Pork Rice Bowl is renowned for its specialty dish - the pork miso rice bowl, which is considered Chichibu's soul food. Customers can conveniently order their meals through a self-service vending machine. The menu consists of one dish available in three different sizes: small, regular, and large. This particular meal features a delectable combination of tender pork meat and flavorful rice that perfectly blend with the miso sauce.
The place pamphlet says this is the home of Chichibu's soul food - the pork miso rice bowl. All ordering is self service from a vending machine and there is only one dish in 3 sizes - small, regular and large. This is seriously good pork rice ball! Very soft meat and tasty rice that blend amazingly with the miso. If you want pork - that's a great place to sample.

A very pleasant surprise. They only serve one thing here in 3 difference sizes: S, M, L Miso bbq pork slice bowls. Every set comes with pickles and soup. Great to scarf down after rafting! They don’t have seating for more than 4 ppl so if you have a big party, you either sit separately or get lucky and have two 4 seater tables nearby. Cash only.

we ate here yesterday and wait a little longer because there is a lot of people eating in this place and the space is small. the food is excellent the pork is very tasty. The one thing that i dont want is the service in here. they will call the number and you have to go in front to get your food. My friend have two orders. One for her and the other is for my sister. She came back holding one order of food. And she said that someone says to her that she only have one order but she’s holding a two ticket. and my sister talk to that old lady and the lady said that there is a mistake someone’s got the food. and it is the two lady beside us. this is so unrespectful because they get the food from the lady who is starting eating. and give to my friend and she start eating and came back if she wants to heat again the food. My god. it is automatic to replace the food it is not hard because there is only one menu in here. That is very rude for me.

Soba Dokoro Tajima is a popular spot in Nagatoro known for its delicious soba and tempura. Visitors often have to wait for a table, but the food is worth it. The staff's service spirit is amazing, and if you run out of water even a little, they'll refill it right away, just like wanko soba. lol As for the food, as others have said, the volume is about 1.5 times what you would expect. I don't think it would be a problem for adult men, but it may be difficult for people who eat little or children to finish it all. The taste is very delicious. 寳 -TERAS- is a popular restaurant known for its signature dish, the roasted pork bowl (Buta don), which is praised for its juicy and tender pork. Despite the portion size not being large, the reasonable pricing makes it worth trying. Another recommended dish is the Miso Potato, a local favorite in Nagatoro. The restaurant offers indoor and terrace seating options and operates with a ticket vending system where customers wait for their order number to be called.

Ordered warajikatsu-don with miso potato, konjac, and shaved ice. The warajikatsu WAS SUPERB. It was soft, crunchy, and a little bit salty (the feeling was different from tonkatsu). If you are a huge eater, I suggest you order a big portion of rice since the rice medium portion is quite small.. imo. Miso potato and konjac was really good for side dish, and the shaved ice was spectacular. I have never eaten a shaved ice like this before, it is really different from the usual shaved ice that you see often during summer festival. 100 points!!

The cutlet and the grilled pork slices are both immensely good. The grilled pork is tender and has a tantalising smoky flavour. The miso pork cutlet is fried to perfectly has a subtle miso flavour. We also tried one of their desserts which is shavings of frozen strawberries with condensed milk, love this creative dessert. Price is also reasonable. Because of low manpower. You can come in and seat yourself and order from the tablet on your table. Your food will be served by a delivery robot and you can also subsequently checked yourself out at the checked out machine by scanning the code on your receipt. The food is a must try. And there isn't a lot of options in nagotoro at night. So finding this place is a god sent.
