There are two rather large buildings that you can walk through one has a second story with a few exhibits you can read about. There's not that much walking since the museum is quite small. Fees: We paid $1,000 yen per person, but there are discounted rates for children. Food: There are several places for small snacks and light meals outside of the museum. We didn't try any of them and so can't recommend. Parking: There's no parking specific to the museum but there are small parking lots spread around town at the entry. Going rate is $500 yen for a full day.

Good to learn about the history and how the silk manufacturing developed in Japan. Huge machinery retained as exhibits.

Visited last year.. There is free Tomioka Silk Mill app that can be downloaded for the audio tour in various language. It’s an interesting historical place to learn how raw silk was made in the early days.

One of the world Heritage Sites of Japan. Full of its historical remains. Access is really inconvenient, however if you have a car its easy. The walking inside the Silk mill feels like you are living at 18th century. It really feels that you time travel and went back to 18th.

We dropped by Tomioka silk mill after camping just for a fun. It was amazing experience to see the process of making silk and historical house constructed before the war. Especially we are interested in the lifestyle of staff and trainers. We could see the furniture and documents. Highly recommend.

Beautiful shrine in a beautiful location. They have an amazing martial art demonstration festival every year in May. This place is a power spot of Japan!

The shrine was neat. It was the first time where I had to walk down the stairs to visit the shrine instead of walking up a bunch of stairs. Its very small area. Not many people there on a Monday afternoon. The shrine is red. A giant Tori gate is near the entrance.

It's a cool shrine! Very peaceful when it's not New Year's/some big shrine holiday. And it's close to the train station, which is convenient if you have good timing with the train haha.

All information at each exhibit is in Japanese, except the name of the exhibit which is also written in English. The exhibits are very visual so you can get by without reading Japanese. However, the information provided is very interesting and educational. Same with the interactive media - Japanese only. I can read Japanese so I didn't ask, but it maybe worth asking at the reception if they have an English brochure. Parking is a disaster on a busy day. No parking attendents directing the flow. Elevator is concealed - you have to ask to be brought to it from the lower floor. Its visible and accessible from the upper floor. Good value for money. Kids are free in. The kids enjoyed it and learned a lot. Good rainy day location. It gets excellent reviews, but we've been to many museums in Japan and I found it to be just average.

My son absolutely loved the museum! The surrounding park is fantastic, with plenty of space to explore and several amazing play areas for kids to enjoy.

Visited Shorinzan Darumaji Temple today and it was such a meaningful experience. I had the chance to paint my own Daruma doll — the staff explained how to do it very clearly, which made it easy and fun. There’s also a small museum where you can see many Daruma dolls and learn about their history. What made the visit extra special was seeing the monks pray for everyone’s wishes — it felt very peaceful and heartwarming. A perfect place for reflection and a unique cultural experience. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

15 min. Taxi from Takasaki station. Very nice temple with Daruma figures (amulets), which can be prayed upon (Tamashii). It has a More 200+ stairway to main Shrine. There is also a small museum (free entrance).

Shorizan was a 3hours drive from Tokyo. We spent about an hour at the museum looking at all the different Daruma. And spent about another 2 hours visiting the site. The staff at the DIY shop on the lower level were amazing, very friendly.

Went here last year 12/02/2024 and it was incredibly beautiful! I look forward this coming “momiji” and excited to visit again!

The gardens are complete with water courses and ponds. The former buildings and rooms are marked throughout the site.

The temple itself is quite magnificent, and there are some nice cafes and even a museum in the surroundings. Past the temple, the hiking trail to Mount Myogi starts. The main path is a medium level hike (you can choose more demanding routes if that is what you want, with rocky hills and cliff to cross with chains). We did the hike but visiting only the temple was worth coming.
