Nestled in the stunning Vayots Dzor region, Noravank Monastery is a captivating 13th-century site that showcases remarkable medieval cantilever architecture. Perched on a ledge overlooking a deep gorge formed by the Arpa River, this monastery is surrounded by striking brick-red cliffs that create an awe-inspiring backdrop.
An incredibly beautiful place — peaceful, scenic, and extremely photogenic. The road leading to Noravank is a dream for those who love winding mountain roads, passing through a stunning gorge. There are few people, the atmosphere is calm, and the views are breathtaking. A must-visit destination when traveling in Armenia!
Igor F — Google review
A beautiful monastery among red rocks, especially beautiful at sunset. The main feature is a two-story church with a steep staircase, where everyone climbs for photos. But now you can't climb the stairs. The road is mountainous, the views are beautiful.
P — Google review
This sits on top of my heart for all the things we visited in Armenia. It is the nature, the green and red mountain slopes that surround the monastery. The view from the top was splendid!
Lazar S — Google review
One of the most spectacular churches in Armenia that you should visit on your trip to this country. The beautiful architecture with eye-catching stone carvings also has a small museum. In famous tourist places in Armenia like here, there are machines that sell souvenir coins, if you want to have a collection of them, make sure you buy them wherever you go.
Babak M — Google review
Noravank should be on top of your list when visiting Armenia. The setting, surrounded by beautiful mountains, colorful and still, the atmosphere of the monastery perched on a cliff up above it - it is absolutely mesmerizing! Weekends see a lot of people and school kids, so plan accordingly. Other than your religious fulfillment, there are a ton of photo ops that will make your eye pause... A must visit!
Dessie H — Google review
Noravank is absolutely stunning! The church complex is beautifully preserved and set against breathtaking red cliffs. The road leading there is just as impressive—winding through a dramatic canyon with amazing views the whole way. A peaceful and unforgettable place to visit!
David D — Google review
The Noravank site is our favourite of all these spiritual sites in Armenia. It might not have the same historical importance as others do. But the location as such is the most pristine. Already the access road leading through the gorge is pretty impressive. The site itself, slightly up the slope at the end of the valley, surrounded by the red rocks of the surrounding hills, is impressive.

Location: Amaghu River gorge, near Yeghegnadzor, Vayots Dzor Province, Armenia. Founded: 12th century, flourished mainly during the 13th–14th centuries. Landscape: Surrounded by dramatic red cliffs, making it one of the most picturesque monasteries in Armenia.

Nestled in the heart of Armenia, the Arpa Protected Landscape is a stunning collaboration between three local communities and the World Wildlife Fund. This remarkable area is dedicated to preserving the rich biodiversity of Armenia, safeguarding over 900 plant species and around 525 animal species. Adventurers can explore Vayots Dzor's breathtaking ochre-colored mountains while hiking through its pristine natural sanctuaries.
Amazing for shorter hikes! Turistic trails (marked red) lead around monastery Noravank.

Great view on the nearby canyon and mountains. Be aware that if you're planning to go there by car, then you need a 4x4 and the entrance is closed and you need to contact the ranger to arrange the visit.

Areni-1 Cave, located in Armenia, is an archaeological site that offers a fascinating journey through time. It holds significant historical treasures dating back to the Chalcolithic and Bronze Ages. The cave has revealed remarkable findings such as the world's oldest winery, ancient artifacts including a leather shoe and a straw skirt dating back to 3900 years BCE, jewelry, and the oldest humanoid brain. Photography inside the cave is not allowed due to its historical importance.
Areni-1 cave is absolutely incredible! Walking through it, I felt so proud that Armenia has such an amazing, world-famous evidence of ancient winemaking. It’s truly a place where history comes alive. Our tour guide, Arpine, was very professional and passionate, she made the visit both informative and inspiring. A must-see for anyone visiting Vayots Dzor! 🇦🇲

Areni-1 Cave is a must visit place for everyone interested in ancient history and archaeology. Located in the Vayots Dzor region of Armenia,Walking through the cave, you can feel connected to the ancient civilizations. The site is well maintained, and the guides telling the lifestyle and culture. Seeing the ancient tools, pottery, and the remnants of winemaking is a unique experience that adds depth to understanding human history. The surrounding landscape is beautiful. If you’re in Armenia, don’t miss the chance to visit Areni-1 Cave it’s a gem 💎.
UMI S — Google review
The cave is for archeology enthusiasts, a staircase has been built to make it easy to access the cave, and there is good information in the cave for those interested. It is one of the oldest, or perhaps the oldest, places where wine was discovered.
Babak M — Google review
Areni Cave is a place where the oldest leather shoes in the world and the remains of an ancient winery were found. The tour is short, about 20 minutes, it is cool and quite dark inside. It is interesting to look at, but does not leave much of an impression. If you are passing by, you can go in, but it is not worth a special trip. There are many swallows' nests at the entrance.
P — Google review
The history and age of the findings is impressive but the actual site visit is not that dynamic or interesting. Only if here in the area for other visits is this a worthwhile stop, but not a special trip for these archiological diggings.

On the way to Noravank it worths a stop. As many times with prehistoric sites, it is not so immediate and easy to decifrare and understand, but the history of the oldest shoe in the world is fantastic. Interesting the traces of the first vinifications.

Church
Holy Mother of God Church is a small and cozy monastery located in the center of the village Areni. The interior features arched pendentives supporting a magnificent dome adorned with high-relief carvings of mythical creatures. Small windows around the drum and at each facade allow natural light to illuminate the main floor below. Additionally, there is a semi-circular apse at the eastern wall and adjacent prayer rooms.
Truly a hidden gem. The road to the church is currently being repaired but you can easily walk there and you will have amazing views over the village, mountains, and the whole wine valley. A really charming place, mostly in the morning or evening.

High-relief carvings of mythical creatures adorn each of the four stone panels between the pendentives and base of the drum. Small vertical windows around the drum as well as small windows at each of the four façades let light into the main floor below. A semi-circular apse is located at the eastern wall of the structure and small "studies" or prayer rooms are adjacent on either side. The arched window above the apse is divided by a single column for decorative and structural purposes.

A beautiful place... It will take some 25 minutes to get there from the main road... Just go the center of the village Areni. Turn left and go towards the huge rocks... Ask the villagers to help you with the way. The monastery is a small, cozy one... It looks like Noravank.. But the details differ... A beautiful scenery awaits if you get there...

Areni Wine Winery, established in 1994, is one of the oldest wineries in the village. Visitors can take a tour of the complex, witness the wine aging process in large oak casks, and indulge in a tasting session featuring a variety of exquisite Vyots Dzor wines. It's important to distinguish this winery from others with similar names nearby.
I had a couple of wine tasting in Armenia. But this time, I was blown away. The wine tasting experience was really informative, very detailed and specific, and have full of substance. Noro, the son of owner, did the tour and hosted the wine tasting. They are also so accommodating and an amazing host. THANK YOU!! Highly recommended.🙌🏼👍🏻⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It was the last day for our group visiting Armenia for a friends wedding and Areni Wine Winery really made it a grand finale. The beautiful scenery in the mountains, the food & wine, the lovely hospitality. Superb. This will last in our memories and heart.

Incredibly good degustation ceremony with great lecture on how to taste wine. I liked young wines and fruit ones the most. Fruit wines were really fruity, I have never tasted anything like that. At leat, they are not your supermarket-grade fruit wines. At that time fruit and young wines cost about 2k dram, and 2016 and 2014 dry reds were 5k and 7k respectively. Many thanks to the owner and his son for captivating stories in Russian.
Xobotun — Google review
Excellent wine tasting experience. We tried 6 wines and bought 4 bottles of cherry, blackberry, orange and semi-sweet wines which we loved. Shame we couldn't take more due to the luggage limitations. The wine tasting was very informative and interesting. We also had dinner in the new restaurant next door that belongs to the same owners where we had a delicious vegetarian dinner. Lovely people, lovely wine, lovely food. I absolutely recommend this place.
Jay D — Google review
My first time in Armenia and one of the first places I visited during the tour. This is where I get the chance to taste all their wine range. The Blueberry wine was the best tasting ones.
Brian ( — Google review
A real wholesome and pleasent experience. You can visit the winery in the cellar, the new restaurant or if you are a group and book in advance they can set up a dinner between in the vineyard. The food is amazing and they mostly use free ingredients from the area.
David G — Google review
There is lot of confusion among wine travelers in the Areni area because numerous wineries in close proximity to each other have similar names. Even some of the reviews and photos are associated with the wrong place. In preparing for my visit, I was told to avoid the commercial wineries situated along the highway and seek out Areni Wine LLC as the top priority (along with Zorah in Rind). That turned out to be the correct advice. The highway wineries are decent, but in essence they are tourist traps. Areni Wine LLC is completely different. It is a true boutique winery that preserves its commitment to traditional production methods and family spirit, and the quality of the wine reflects this commitment. The wine tasting (free) covers a range of eight different bottles -- three dry reds (of which two were opened right on the spot), a semi-sweet, three fruit wines (of which the sour cherry was the most memorable), and and a Glintwine. Anyone who appreciates wine on more than a merely casual level should make this a stop on their wine journey and not bother with the wineries by the side of the highway.
Amir A — Google review
Probably best wine stop in Areni. Delicious sweet wines as well as 6 dry wines, 4 fruit vodkas and a brandy to sample (all for free and with knowledgeable English speaking host). Also this family business sells a range of herbal teas and dried fruits gathered from the local area and their 5ha of vineyards and orchards. It's a wonder they make any money, given their generous provision of wine to sample!

The service at Full Tray Areni is excellent, with quick and friendly staff. The food is delicious, particularly the salad Gratage, which is outstanding when paired with lavash. The meat dishes are flavorful and fresh, although some customers found the pork to be a bit too fatty. Overall, the dining experience was enjoyable and this restaurant comes highly recommended. It's worth noting that they accept credit cards for easy payment.

By far the best restaurant in Areni. The food and service is exemplary. The Pork khorovats was sublimely delicious, likewise the chicken kebab. The fried cheese was awesome, the salad fresh and Peach and Cherry compot soothed our thirst. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!!

Areni Wine Factory is located in the charming wine village of Areni, nestled in the Vayots Dzor region of Armenia. The factory is renowned for its craftsmanship and tradition in producing some of the finest wines in the area. Visitors can enjoy a tour of the facilities led by professional guides, gaining insight into the winemaking process from grape to glass.
Excellent experience! The staff speaks English very well, which made the whole visit smooth and enjoyable. The guided tour of the wine cellar was completely free and included tastings of 3 different wines and even a sample of their house-made vodka. The cellar itself is atmospheric and gives a great insight into the local winemaking tradition. For those wanting more, a full tasting of 10 wines is available for just 1000 AMD – an amazing value for the quality and quantity offered. The wines were diverse and well-presented, and we never felt rushed. A must-visit spot for wine lovers looking for an authentic and affordable experience in the region.

A fun little-ish local winery that offers tours and wine degustations. Our driver-guide suggested to visit it on the way back from Noravanq. We tried 4 glasses of wine each (wine can be replaced with a shot of local cognac). It’s a fun and tasty experience: to sip different types of wine before finally giving in into temptation to buy a bottle. The owners were very pleasant and also offered us some coffee, that we enjoyed atop of a terrace with a wonderful mountain view after a short tour. The tour guide gave us info about the ways of their wine and drink’s production in general, showed us the cellar, bottles and barrels. Prices are fair, they have a wide selection of drinks and souvenirs. We left very satisfied.

Areni Winery is a beautiful place to visit. They offer free wine tasting and a guided tour that explains the winemaking process in detail. The staff are enthusiastic, friendly, and make the experience enjoyable. It was a bit crowded when we visited, maybe because of the free wine tasting, but still well worth it.
Gokul D — Google review
The staff speaks good English and will give you a free tour of the winemaking process. After that, if you are interested, you can buy from the winemakers after tasting. In general, the prices of wine and other alcoholic beverages in Arne Hill are low and of good quality. I suggest you make your purchases here if you wish. Apart from shops and factories like this, there are vendors who sell quality handmade alcohol.

Ar Areni Restaurant is a charming establishment operated by a friendly local family. It features an intimate winery where their wine is carefully aged in oak barrels and clay amphoras. Guests are invited to sample the wines from the cellar before making a purchase, and they offer reasonable prices for their offerings. In contrast to other wineries in the area, Ar Areni Restaurant opts for glass bottles instead of plastic, adding an extra touch of class.
Small family owned restaurant. We had an excellent lentil and beef soup, scrambled eggs and fried beans. All very tasty. Others had the BBQ there which also looked to be very tasty.

The hospitality is unbeatable and the food is no doubt one of the best I've tried in Armenia. I was very lucky to come across one owner's family birthday party. They kindly invited me for some wine tasting and share some of the fresh grilled rabbit meat. The wine here are very unique and smell different from many wine I have ever taste (coming from someone who tried decent amount of wine from different countries). I recommend this place and I recommend purchasing wine from here over the wine factory next door because it's a small family business wine maker with small production, while you can purchase the wine from wine factory next door in many other places.

The Hin Areni winery, located in the heart of the village, boasts a sizable structure. Visitors have the opportunity to sample their local wine and partake in guided tours offered within this renowned wine region. The tasting experience covers a variety of wines, excluding the Reserve selection, with offerings including White, Rose, and Classic options. Additionally, an assortment of cheese is provided alongside the tastings.
Great wine tasting it comes with crackers and bits of cheese too! The tour could have been better, the tour started with bottle making and packing before the actual making of wine from the grapes. There could have also been photos or illustrations of how the vineyard looks like during the tour. But otherwise everything is good and understandable with the new winery.

I had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful winery and was treated to a fantastic experience. From taking a short tour through their production process to sampling their best wines, every moment was truly delightful. The staff was knowledgeable and passionate about their craft, making the tour both informative and engaging. Had an informative visit of the winery before tasting and all that for about 1,000 per person which is worth it. The wine is still young but interestingly only made with local grape. We also bought some bottles to bring them back. Bottles are expensive compared to the same price v. quality in Europe but still quite unique to have Armenian wine.

A Hidden Gem in Areni – Truly Unforgettable! I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Areni Wine Cellar B&B, and it was a truly delightful experience. Run by the warm and hospitable Ms. Anna, this charming guesthouse is the perfect place for a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature’s beauty. The rooms are exceptionally neat and clean, with a cozy, home-like feel that instantly makes you feel at ease. You can tell how much care and attention Anna puts into every detail – from the well-maintained interiors to the spotless facilities. What sets this place apart, besides its beautiful natural surroundings and serene vibe, is the incredible food. Every meal served was homemade, fresh, and absolutely delicious. You can truly taste the love and tradition in each bite – a highlight of the stay! And of course, I can’t forget to mention the most adorable and responsible dog on the property. This loyal companion seems to keep a watchful eye over everything and adds a unique charm to the whole experience. It’s clear that he takes his “duties” seriously, and he made the stay even more memorable. Whether you’re stopping by for a night or looking for a quiet weekend escape, I highly recommend the Areni Wine Cellar B&B. It’s a peaceful haven with wonderful hospitality that you won’t forget.

I stayed here for 2 nights in Aug2025. It's an excellent B&B with a wine cellar. The area is quiet and peaceful. The breakfasts with homemade cheese, jams, and locally grown vegetables/fruit were great, same for dinners. The rooms (with bathrooms) are clean. The wines are quite good but the homemade spirits (I've tried orange and mint/anise flavours) were fantastic, this is a must. The owners were accommodating and truly generous hosts. Overall, I loved it here and give it my highest recommendation.

We had a wonderful stay! The room was spotless and comfortable, the people were incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. The food was fresh, delicious, and full of local flavors, perfectly paired with fantastic wine and brandy. Highly recommended!

Super nice and helpful owner. Clean rooms with hot shower, but the walls are super tiny and you hear all talking from the neighbours rooms what is annoying. Delicious, home made breakfast and great wine tasting. Recommend!

The place was really nice and comfortable, rooms on a very decent level and owner was welcoming, open and really took care of our needs also letting us do a very savoury and interesting wine tasting adapting to our schedule. Breakfast was abundant, good with the local products This was short but very pleasant stay. Thank you.

This place is amazing! The private room was big and warm, and the food is soooo good! The host makes everything in her kitchen (homemade Lavash and wine!) And was always happy to help with anything. A really pleasant stay, I'll start here next time I'm in Areni for sure :)
