Schloss-Arkaden Braunschweig

4.3

Shopping mall
Schloss-Arkaden Braunschweig is a contemporary mall housed within the facade of an old castle, offering a diverse range of shops and dining options. It is conveniently located close to the train and bus station, making it easily accessible. The shopping center features a mix of big and small shops with varied offerings, as well as ample parking. The historical building with modern architectural interventions provides a unique atmosphere for visitors to enjoy shopping and dining.
Built on the original site of the Brunswick Palace, the shopping centre „Schloss-Arkaden“ looks a castle on the outside and modern on the inside. There are plenty of shops to choose from and there is also a food court. On the weekends and during special events it can be quite full, so finding a carpark can be challenging.
Steven F — Google review
Schloss Arkaden is easily one of the most beautiful malls I’ve ever visited. The reconstructed Brunswick Palace facade is stunning, blending 19th-century grandeur with a bright, modern shopping interior. Walking in feels like stepping into history, but with all the convenience of a contemporary mall. Inside, there’s a fantastic mix of around 150 shops spread over three floors — from big names like H&M and Saturn to cozy cafes and bakeries for a coffee break. The open, light-filled design makes it a pleasure to explore, and the spacious castle hall is a real centerpiece. Practicality is on point too: over 1,200 parking spaces, bicycle racks, and excellent tram and bus connections make it easy to get here. Everything was clean, well-maintained, and the atmosphere felt both lively and relaxed. A must-visit if you’re in Braunschweig!

An exclusive mall with premium outlets. Spacious area with good moving place all along. Can access floors from three locations. Paid parking available nearby. Good place to bring kids. They have play zone outside. Main entrance from Schloss end is great.
Konamaneti R — Google review
Very nice Diverse shops, elegant, nice service. I bought my shoe there
Hisham A — Google review
This is a very nice shopping mall. Since they renewed Rewe on the bottom floor it is even better. There is one thing that brings this place down and that is the fact that the possibilities for changing and toilets for anyone with small children are narrow. There is one small room, it is old and quite dirty compared to the rest of this amazing building. There are also no place for children to play and parents to relax on a long shopping day. Weekends are crazy crowded. This mall needs to be enlarged and more places for children to be created. Many other malls around Europe have those possibilities and it makes life so much easier for a lot of people....not only the parents but also the shopper's who doesn't need to listen to restless kids whining 😉 I really hope they make childrens corners of some kind with changing places, playgrounds etc.
Na D — Google review
What a place in a small down. Loved it.
Tariq K — Google review
Miserable, confusing, a lot of roads and parking lots around. No navigation inside - not a single attempt. And I don't even want to mention the architectural crime of butchering the Residenz.

Brunswick Palace, also known as Braunschweiger Schloss or Braunschweiger Residenzschloss, has a rich history dating back to the 18th century when it served as the residence for the Dukes of Brunswick. Despite facing destruction and demolition over the years, it was rebuilt in 2007 and now houses a museum and rooftop terrace. The palace stands as a grand monument in Brunswick's schlossplatz and is admired for its stunning architecture.
It was a wonderful visit, as it is located in the city center, and it was the residence of the dukes from 1753 to November 8, 1918.. Within it is the Schloss commercial complex, which contains a wide range of shops such as clothing, food, restaurants, electronics, cosmetics, and perfumes... It is wonderful. If you visit the city of Braunschweig, do not forget to go there and take souvenir photos
Ahmad H — Google review
Stunning City Palace with a remarkable history. The old home of the Dukes of Braunschweig, the last of whom abdicated in 1918, the Schloss was destroyed twice, first by fire and then of course in the bombing raids of the Second World War. Against massive protests it was demolished in the 1960s and finally rebuilt in the 2000s to cover a shopping mall. You can easily spot the parts that came from the original Schloss. The architecture is beautiful and the site is in the centre of the city so absolutely a must visit when in Braunschweig. There’s a small museum in the left hand wing of the palace that is free, as well as the lifts to see the Quadriga at the very top that’s also free for the time being. The entrance is just to the right of the main entrance.

In Brunswick's schlossplatz stands the stunning building known as Brunswick Palace. When I passed by this majestic monument on the route to Gaussberg Park, I must admit that it was awe-inspiring. Only when I travel to the UK do I see monuments like this. According to what I was told, this palace was constructed sometime in the 18th century and underwent a number of renovations over its existence. I have heard that it once served as a residence for the Brunswick dukes in the 18th century. Wonderful to pass past this building.

Brunswick Cathedral, also known as St. Blasius Cathedral, is a remarkable 12th-century Romanesque architectural gem located in Braunschweig, Germany. Founded by Henry the Lion in 1173 and serving as his final resting place, the cathedral boasts distinctive twin towers and holds significant historical importance in the region's religious and cultural heritage.
A beautiful place in the Center of an incredible Christmas market. An incredible Christmas experience which I would go to again and again.

We should really thankful to those people centuries ago constructed these great structures. Every inch has a history and a story and a voice. Kids should be made to learn about these buildings and the people behind it.

Braunschweig Cathedral is a truly extraordinary place that left a profound impact on me. From the moment I stepped inside, I was transported to a bygone era, overwhelmed by the weight of history that permeates every corner of this majestic structure. The cathedral's architecture is a testament to human creativity and skill. Its soaring spires and intricate details are a sight to behold. The craftsmanship on display is nothing short of remarkable, with each delicate carving and carefully placed stone revealing the dedication and talent of the artisans who brought this architectural masterpiece to life. Every turn brought new surprises, and I found myself lost in admiration, marveling at the sheer grandeur of it all. However, the cathedral's beauty extends far beyond its physical appearance. Its walls reverberate with stories of centuries past, and the sense of timelessness is palpable. It has witnessed historical events, joyous celebrations, and solemn moments of reflection. As I learned about its rich history, I couldn't help but feel a deep reverence for the generations that came before us and the cultural heritage they left behind. Inside the cathedral, I encountered a collection of special sculptures that added an extra layer of fascination. These sculptures, meticulously crafted with exquisite detail, seemed to possess a life of their own. Their expressive forms and captivating presence drew me in, and I was captivated by the stories they told. Each one was a testament to the artistic prowess of the past, reminding me of the power of human creativity and the ability to transform stone into something truly extraordinary. In conclusion, Braunschweig Cathedral is more than just a building. It is a gateway to the past, an architectural wonder, and a repository of history and art. Visiting this remarkable cathedral is an immersive experience that will transport you to ancient times and leave you with a deep appreciation for the enduring legacy of our ancestors. Prepare to be enchanted by its timeless beauty, to marvel at its architectural splendor, and to be moved by the stories it silently whispers.

A long overdue piece , I visited this absolutely beautiful cathedral in April, it was a cloudy morning and I was incidentally in time for Ms.Monika's famed church tour (it was around 11 am ) , and boy was i was amazed. She breathed and lived the cathedral's rich history, dark times and the subsequent restoration. Her impeccable attention to detail and careful explanation bought the cathedral to life. A proficient bi -lingual (German and English) , she did an outstanding job to weave the narrative of the journey of the cathedral from past to present. The tour itself is about an hour and free , the cathedral has stood the test of time and is a testament to faith, history and changing times of the surrounding regions. The architecture (gothic- renaissance) is a splendid remainder of the rich history and cultural heritage of the city itself. The staff and local agencies involved are doing a wonderful job of preserving this splendid piece of architecture, if Braunschweig is not on your radar, give it a try, gems like these won't dissapoint you.

Yazeed A — Google review
An exceptional evening at Staatstheater Braunschweig staging Dvorak's opera Rusalka starring Magdalena Hinterdobler! Beautiful voices of beautiful opera singers making particular efforts to the movement! Interesting stage solutions joined to lighting effects emphasizing the sub-modern design of the scene helps the viewer towards a more philosophical understanding of this old legend... with questionning of ethical aspects of our influence on the surrounding world, bioengineering, and so on... It is however a pity that the solution to the ending is too narrowed (almost "Carmen"-like), associating more with series such as "Tatort" and thus reducing the emotional impact of the performance. It is impossible not to note how harmoniously fit into the performance Joska Lehtinen and Ekaterina Kudryavtseva adding extra touch to the meaning of the piece... Our feeling of love, does it give us ownership of the object of love?

The TU Brunswick Botanical Garden is a must-visit destination in the city, featuring around 4,000 diverse plant species, including unique and endangered ones. Despite some weather-related challenges during certain times of the year, it remains an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts. Conveniently located near the historical center of Braunschweig and free to enter, this garden offers open-air spaces as well as tropical plant-filled greenhouses.
Beautiful place and must try. It is free and people are friendly in here. Find your peace in here. For Kids it is really useful and plant loves ( I am Sure you will Fall in love in this place). Place is very clean and tidy. You can sit and relax too! Highly recommended and must watch spot in Braunschweig.

What a lovely garden it was. Spring would be the best time to visit. I did not expect it to be quite big. Nearly took us 2 hours to roam around. There was even a tropical and dessert area. A small waterfall and benches are located everywhere to sit and chill. Entry is free and is open until 5 pm. Washroom available. Can also buy some pots of flowers and herbs. There were so many varieties of plants, trees and flowers from all over the world. Well maintained and clean place. Highly recommended when in Braunschweig.

Unfortunately, I visited this place in November, so, many of the plants were not in a good state (look at the pictures), because of the bad weather and cold, but I enjoyed this place. 1. It is not that far from the historical center of Braunschweig. You can easily reach it by foot, as we did. 2. It is free of charge to visit this place. 3. There are an open air space and the greenhouses with tropical plants. They were nice and beautiful I would definitely go there again in the summer
Anna N — Google review
Botanical garden is located in centre of the city. It’s free for all to visit but sometimes it’s closed due to maintenance work. There are special rooms for tropical plants to see and experience specially when we not live in such climate conditions to see them naturally. One such plant to my Interest I found is called”touch me not” because if you touch this plant then leaves close immediately giving a sign that it’s shy or doesn’t like it. You can watch the video to experience virtually and might motivate you to visit it once

THE ALCOHOL GIANT’S ADVERTISERS Eintracht Braunschweig revolutionised German football in 1973 as the first club to display a sponsor on their shirts. Although it was allowed in France, Denmark and Austria, it was forbidden in the rest of the footballing world. At least until Eintracht Braunschweig cheated the system. In 1972, five years after the club’s surprising league victory, Eintracht were suffering financially because of the previous year’s bribery scandal in the Bundesliga. The club needed help and started a collaboration with the alcohol giant Jägermeister: in exchange for sponsorship money, the Braunschweig players would display the company logo. In August 1972, this project was given the thumbs down by the German Football Association, which made Jägermeister’s owner Günter Mast and Eintracht’s chairman Ernst Fricke think again. Advertising on the kit may have been forbidden, but perhaps they could do something with the club crest? In January 1973, members of the club voted through a proposal that meant that the club’s red lion was exchanged for the stag’s head of Jägermeister. Furthermore the emblem was given a central position on match shirts. The German Football Association was bewildered – and could do nothing because there were no rules concerning club crests. The only thing they could oppose was the size of the crest, which was not allowed to be bigger than 14 cm (5½ inches), so the referee Franz Wengenmayer measured Braunschweig’s emblem when it was first used, on 24 March, 1973,. When the match kicked off, so began a new era in the history of fooball. Seven months later, approval was given for sponsors’ names and logos to appear on match kits in Germany, and clubs including Hamburg, Eintracht Frankfurt, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Duisburg joined Braunschweig. UEFA took another nine years before approving sponsorship on shirts. CLUB: Braunschweiger Turn- und Sportverein Eintracht von 1895 NICKNAME: Die Löwen (the Lions) FOUNDED: 1895 STADIUM: Eintracht-Stadion, Braunschweig (23,325 capacity) HISTORIC PLAYERS: Werner Thamm, Franz Merkhoffer and Paul Breitner With the Jägermeister brand embedded in the club badge, Eintracht Braunschweig were trailblazers in terms of using the club crest as a means to generate commercial revenue.

The restaurant is located in the old city center next to the castle and cathedral. If you are doing an old city toor this would be a place to stop by and enjoy excellent food and wine. I was there with my daughter for the first time. I chose the BBQ burger and my daughter took the Cheeseburger. We also took fries plus ketchup and mayonnaise on the side and we took drinks of course. It's the worst burger we've ever eaten, especially the cheese it tasted like plastic, the fries were hard and not fresh at all. The meat was not good. I think everything didn't taste fresh even vegetables. The food was not worth the money I paid. We left the food on the plate. The woman who took the order and the payment was nice that's why I gave one star.

Note: this place is inside the mall. Not easily accessible unless you plan to visit the mall. Also parking was expensive. 3euro for one hour. With that said I visited for the breakfast and ended up buying the buffet. I really wanted to try the pancakes and they did not disappoint. The buffet is ok, nothing special but unlimited pancakes and coffee is nice, although probably on the expensive side. My waitress wasn’t very attentive. I got my coffee well after the food arrived. I kept asking her for things that should have been taken care of from the start. Since it’s located in the mall it’s not the best atmosphere but not too bad. I would visit again!

Decent service. Horrible food, overcooked meat and generally bland food, nothing standing out, everything sub-par. A waitress served our drinks and spilled 2 cokes and a water all over us, happens, helped us clean etc., but we were still charged full price for everything, in such a case i think they ought to serve at least thw drinks on the house, considering how much they spilled all over our clothes, shoes etc. Would not recommend.

A nice Asia / Vietnamese Restaurant in the Heart of the City. I tasted crunchy Mango Curry Chicken, it was very delicious and it was a good Deal for it's price! The service was friendly and very quick.

There was no issue other than a bit of slowness; the food was delicious. We had to wait and call the waiter a few times to place our order. It was a bit challenging to communicate with the non-English-speaking waitstaff. Instead of them trying to understand us, we had to try to understand them. We discovered the place during a tourist visit. Nevertheless, it was a positive experience.

I ordered the red curry with chicken, and I was pleasantly surprised by its rich, delicious flavor. The portion was very generous, making it great value for the price. While the service was a bit slow in taking my order, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and a spacious layout, making it a comfortable place to dine. I’ll definitely be back!

Went in and immediately got seated, food was amazing. The servers were extremely nice and helpful. This is one of the best Asian places I've eaten at since a long time! 5★

Nem Grill offers a lovely escape with warm lighting, pops of color, and a casual vibe. They even have outdoor seating, perfect for sunny days! The menu boasts a wide range of Vietnamese dishes. The pho was phenomenal - rich broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and melt-in-your-mouth meat. However, the mango chicken curry, while beautifully presented, lacked depth in flavor. While some dishes might be milder, the friendly staff is happy to add spice with chilies or their house-made sauce. With its variety and focus on fresh ingredients, Nem Grill is a great choice for exploring Vietnamese cuisine. I'll be back to try more!

Our favorite viet restaurant in Braunschweig and honestly one of our absolute favorite places to eat when we’re hungry, fast service, good atmosphere, big portions and reasonable prices… summer rolls and rice dishes are our favs, sushi is excellent and pho is to die for! Highly recommended!

The worst service ever. The last two times I have been there, it took about an hour for us the get our food and they delivered both time the wrong order! Food were okay, however for that price, you can eat in a better place. Atmosphere was more like eating at School Cafeteria than a Restaurant due to crowd and arrangement of the tables

Very decent place to grab a quick meal. Food is perfectly fine, is at your table rather quickly and tastes very well! One of the best places in Braunschweig to grab some quick dinner.

Really nice restaurant!! Very good good quality and abundant. The waiter was super friendly

The ambiance was beautiful and the staff were friendly. We felt the price was on the higher end for the food we ordered; not worth the money. It was a decent experience.

Basic Sushi defines the quality, defenetly delicious, friendly staff and very nice outdoor seating. Worth a visit but on the edge to be overpriced. Miso soup was ok and the fish tasted fresh, I would try something new next time to see if it can get another star...
Na D — Google review
Very disappointing experience. For the price - quality is far from being even good, while it must be excellent. Rice on sushi was falling apart from the roll, miso soup was not that tasty.
Sasha O — Google review
Unfortunately there are no labelled vegan dishes, but if you ask they're happy to help! I was able to get the fried vegetable udon veganised and my friend the veggie sushi platter. The udon were really yummy and savory, i think some sort of tofu or edamame beans would be a great addition. The sushi was also lovely and the avocado was perfect. We had a table at 10pm Friday night and it was busy until 11, when it emptied out. So definitely reserve, it was no problem online.
Micro W — Google review
Friendly staff but prices are high compared to taste of food. We ordered 2 person Sushi and soup.

4.5*. One of the top Japanese restaurants in town (and, unlike my favorite, accepting credit cards). Very good to excellent food for the price, and service to match. Be sure to request your preferred seating area though (excellent ambiance in the back), last time we were seated in the front which apparently still counts as part of the "main area" when reserving but which is significantly less nice.

Modern facility with plenty of parking (free of charge if you buy something at the stores) and a good mix of stores for daily use and food outlets for a quick bite. Usually clean restrooms, though they struggle with vandalism (unfortunately). A bit surprising: Drive-in ATM at the parking entrance, not in the building.

Small collection of shops and restaurants, plenty of car parking space. Pretty quiet but great if you only need to purchase a few items.

Plenty of parking mall with the biggest Edeka of the city inside along with DM, a nail shop, toy store for kids, different cuisines restaurants. and more. Remember to keep the receipt from Edeka to offset the parking fee.

The mall is quite organised, and disposes of not many stores, but all are very big and well equipped. A great point of the mall is the free public toilet, something not so usual in German stores and malls. The restaurants available are all classy and delicious. It also counts with a huge Edeka supermarket, so very nice.
Frederico S — Google review
The large supermarket has a huge variety of different makes of the same stuff. There are hardly any special fruit spreads, but strawberry, peach, apricot, raspberry by almost all notable manufacturers. Save for vodaphone, all other shops feel low key. The restaurants are fine if a bit pricy except the Asian place which I find to be of good quality for your money. The centre itself looks great, if you like that sort of architecture.

The Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum in Braunschweig, Germany, is a treasure trove of Renaissance and Baroque art collected by Anthony Ulrich, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Established in 1754, it holds an impressive array of northern European art from the 16th and 17th centuries, featuring works by renowned artists such as Albrecht Durer, Rembrandt, Vermeer, and more.
Huge museum, make sure to come early because we ended up staying for four hours! So many beautiful art to look at and enjoy.
Sara D — Google review
Lovely collection of everything from everywhere. The museum by itself is in a very good condition, I mostly did like the sculptures, some of the paintings are quite interesting to look at. The overall presented collection is good, but not extremely amazing.
Anastasiia S — Google review
The museum itself is really nice, collection of paintings was well organized and quite impressive. We didn’t have a chance to finish our tour because we were quite rudely pushed out of the museum when it was 17.45 (museum closes at 6pm), some particular worker insisted on us leaving. I mean, I know it’s a museum, but being used to visiting some famous museums, I was quite surprised by this attitude (and a bit of rushed closing procedure). If you really like good art and happened to be in Braunschweig - definitely worth a visit, but I wouldn’t travel here specifically for this museum as we did.
Anton B — Google review
What an amazing place. It is packed full of the most wonderful paintings, sculptures and ceramics. This is just one example of the beautiful paintings. I was not aware of the history of this town but the collection gives any big city gallery a run for its money in quality and size of the collection. A fantastic find and a must go to if you like this type of thing. The gallery was very quiet no fighting to get to see pictures like you sometimes have to in big city galleries. The staff were very helpful and very knowledgeable wanting to share information with us.
Victoria W — Google review
One of the must see sites in Brunswick. We enjoyed the paintings of the masters of the German, Italian and Flemish schools of painting during the Renaissance. Many of the paintings are accompanied by a soundtrack, which creates a unique and pleasant effect.
Alex F — Google review
Great Museum, nice atmosphere, not too crowded, great staff and amazing shop!
Kly — Google review
A really top notch Gemäldegalerie, Schwerpunkt baroque so if you like that you’re in luck, but overall a fabulous collection with some thrilling pieces by Strozzi, Spranger, Bassano, Vouet, Tintoretto, Veronese, Fiorentino, van Heemskerk... I could go on and on! Aside from the paintings the museum itself has had an immaculate renovation and really shines. Bonus: I had the museum essentially to myself for the first four hours it was open, a really sacred experience. Go to Braunschweig JUST to see this. Go tomorrow.
Nathan E — Google review
The museum has a nice paintings collection (xv - xviii century) with a few astounding pieces (Vermeer, Rembrandt, Rubens, Giorgione, Tintoretto, Holbein, Cranach) and a free informative booklet about the collection but it is in urgent need of a new light concept because at the moment it really doesn't work: reflections, shadows, etc. don't allow you to appreciate many of the exhibits. The sculpture and applied art is the true surprise though: very rich and good organized. Overall absolutely worth a visit.

Castle
Schlossmuseum Braunschweig is a reconstructed historic palace with a Neoclassical exterior and a museum showcasing furniture, paintings, and the lifestyle of the House of Welf. The museum, located in the reconstructed first floor of the northern wing, offers an authentic glimpse into the personalities of the dukes of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel and their families through original art and furniture displays. Visitors can enjoy free entry until September and avail themselves of a complimentary audioguide.
Truly lovely place and well worth a visit for people interested in history. Located in the Schloss at the left hand side, it’s free to enter until the end of September and also a free audioguide. They ask if you have your own earphones but if not they can give you some. The museum itself is not that big, only a few rooms. Lots of information and the audioguide is very informative. There’s information on the Schloss history with an interesting documentary in both German and English, and the audioguide explains the history of all the artwork and rooms. It’s interesting to learn about the various Dukes of Brunswick, and when learning about the last Duke; Ernst August, I strongly recommend listening to the interview of his wife, Victoria Louise. The story of what happened in 1918, first hand from the Duchess and only daughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II is fascinating. There are about three or so recreated rooms with original furniture and artwork which are very pretty, culminating in the magnificent throne room. The throne room is a beautiful, though smaller recreation of the west original, but the throne itself is original. Fascinating to learn about the history and detail of the furniture and artwork, this is where the audioguide comes in handy. As some other reviews have mentioned, the staff inside are very friendly and helpful. The lovely lady at the front desk explained exactly how to move through the museum and even pointed me in the direction of the Quadriga. Truly professional good at their job, they are an asset to the museum and make visitors feel very welcome!
Alex B — Google review
Limited viewing to four rooms, furnished in style. The entire building was demolished after WW II and rebuilt. Some history of the original building and grounds as they were in the early 18th century. Another section is dedicated to the last duchess that lived there before the war: Princess Louise Victoria daughter of Wilhelm II is highlighted in interviews with people who knew her.
Cynthia L — Google review
Worth a visit - lots of background knowledge and especially the throne room was very impressive

The Museum was good, but the behavior of the woman behind the desk near of door of Museum, was not good and that was very weak. I came from England for tour to Germany but, unfortunately it was a bad memorie for me. I am so sorry , but it's the reality.

Worst experience from this restaurant and I will never come back. Poor service from the waiters. I had to keep getting the attention of my waiter to place my order. Eventually when I did order, I ordered a Thai curry which was served to me very salty and there was no coconut milk in it. The gravy was very thick. Eventually when I got the attention of my waitress , she asked me how was the food and I told her I could not eat it as it is too salty. She just said sorry. So I asked for a box and my bill as I needed to leave, to take the food away (I was going to add my own cream to it). She gave me a box and put the food inside however, they donot provide bags to keep the leftovers in. She also did not bring the bill and I needed to leave. As I was waking up to pay the bill, the food fell on my brand new white sneakers. I asked to speak to the manager and I was told that there's no one available. The service was really poor , i had to pay full price for a meal that I barely ate and I did not get a replacement or a proper apology. Totally disgusted. The tables and floors were also quite dirty.
Priyanta S — Google review
I´ve been the first one in the morning for breakfast. The food is really good, but the table, the chair and the floor were very dirty. So nobody cleaned this since yesterday. That is no place for me to feel good, even if the food is tasty. You never know how dirty the kitchen is, when you see the degree of cleanliness outside...

I was there for my morning coffee and also order some bubble waffles 🧇! The atmosphere was also great!

An agreeable, relaxing place to have breakfast or a morning coffee. Ideal for that splendid German invention, the "second breakfast": pleasantly breaks up that morning trip into town. And it's dog-friendly, too. Two things I didn't care for. Vegan "bacon" is not for me, an irredeemably peculiar flavour reminiscent, to my palate, of burning tyres. Otherwise though the food is fine, and the Vietnamese drip-coffee excellent. If you pay with a foreign card, their bank's card-machine levies an automatic handling charge (which does not, it should be noted, go to the café). Didn't like that either. These grumbles aside, The Makery gets a thumbs up.

Visited Makery for a breakfast on the busy weekend and got a free table luckily as a people walked in exactly after us had to go it was full. So may be reservation is a must. Went with a buffet breakfast, though the prices are tad bit high (47 for two) - quality of the food is top notch. The breads, the vegan beetroot spread, meat options, cheese variety, fresh fruits, decadent chocolate brownies, and tea - everything was high standard and a courteous and pleasant staff made the overall experience even better. As for the weekend, it was buzzing with a crowd and Energy all around us. Would visit again next time.
Nilesh B — Google review
The place looks nice and is well located, but what a disappointment… Prices are really excessive compared to the limited selection. What shocked me the most: the espresso is charged extra, because the included coffee is filter only. Honestly, never seen that anywhere else! And to make matters worse, even though I’m not vegan, you still have to pay a surcharge for certain options, even though the place is already 100% vegetarian. What a joke… It really feels like everything is designed to inflate the bill without offering the quality or variety to match. In the end, the experience is not worth the price. Too bad, because the concept had potential, but I won’t be coming back.

A perfect place to relax at Braunschweig. The cafe is simple and lovely. They offer outside and indoor seating. I tried their chocolate cheesecake (5 euros) and iced macchiato (3.5 euros). The service lady was really sweet. Chocolate cheesecake: 4.5/5 Iced macchiato: 3.5/5 I would definitely come there again .

Makery is just great, the staff is super friendly, their coffee choices are vast and delicious plus their waffles and cake choices are yummy. I can totally recommend this place although you have to be lucky to get a table. I suggest you either give them a call before you get there or be flexible with the table offering. The interieur is amazing, too. As a student you can study here for hours :)

Really Perfect!! The menu does not have a very wide range of options but the quality of meals are really good. Most of the time the meats are not so tasty and not get good marrinated but here the meats prepared very well and have a very good taste. The location of restaurant is so nice, close to main station with parking and can say eating food close to sky. We called ahead to book a table for my mother’s 70th birthday, specifically requesting the best view for the occasion. The waiter assured us it was arranged. Upon arrival, the “manager” Bastian informed us the only option was a high bar table by the entrance, facing the noisy open kitchen — nothing like what was promised. When I reminded him of our booking and the special request, he dismissed it, blamed the staff, and acted as though no note had been made. Completely unacceptable. We walked out and found a much better restaurant that actually valued its guests.

I had to cut 2 stars for the food, it wasn’t yummy at all. Otherwise the ambience is really good, the team is also amazing. Their hospitality was really good, friendly, respectful, in time, very polite and helpful. They allowed me to choose table and i could reserve a place an hour before visiting. Food looked beautiful as well, just if it was yummy as well. It would have been a 5 star experience. Looking forward to going again and ordering something else, maybe till then they read my review and do whats needed.

Honestly a maximum 5/10. Got seated at the bar first for an apéritif before our table was ready but took ages for them to take the order so ended up having the drinks at the table. Service was kind of sloppy and food was just okay. The bread was dry and the french salted butter wasn’t even salted, and also served too cold to even manipulate. The noodles were too heavy to eat and the sauce was too much. Lots of room for improvement definitely.

Place to be avoided . Despicable experience . I showed up at 19:12 p.m without a reservation as I’m alone . They tell me « sorry no place , all booked » . I went to the toilet and I checked online that if there is indeed no tables anymore …. And… surprise , 6 tables available ! I therefore booked online for 19:30 . I show up again at 19:19 with my reservation , and here out of a sudden, confusion …. « Ah some people canceled we are sorry » adding « that’s normal business » … when I told him that I find it very weird … he was about to « kick me out » . Ridiculous don’t kill thank god …. Message to the restaurant : the customer experience is not only having a nice high end place and nice food . It is most certainly taking care of your customers . Last time I spent my money there

Visitors can enjoy delicious meals while taking in the beautiful surroundings. Customers have praised the friendly and efficient service as well as the diverse menu offering tasty and well-portioned dishes.
It was my first time at a block house and I would go there again: comfy, warm, amazing smells, friendly and fast service, very professional and the food was unbelievably good. Meat was on point in four different orders, entrees and Salat very fresh and soft, and the main course was amazing: Scottish beef. Overall a 5/5 experience if not more.

The steak is juicy and greatly made as was requested. Also loved how nicely they „maintain“ the look of the steak. Surely recommend.

It was ok. Nothing extraordinary, nothing bad. Edit after owner answer: I would prefer more options, more meat cuts to be available, for example I did not find Tomahawk. Roasting was not perfect on one of my visits, I asked medium and it was a little more than medium towards well. Also the taste was ok, but not the best I've tasted.

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
ZOO BRAUNSCHWEIG "Noah's Ark" Uwe Wilhelm GmbH is a compact zoo that has been redesigned to provide its animals with more space. While it may have fewer species than larger city zoos, the 50 different species housed here, including cheetahs, Siberian tigers, South American bears, barbary apes and Golden-headed lion tamarins live in near-natural enclosures.
I really liked the zoo its not too big and its very clean and the animals are well taken care of
Sara D — Google review
Love this zoo!! The animals are very friendly and looks so happy and well taken care of! Love the fact that you can buy food at the zoo and feed to some of the animals, perfect for kids and animal lovers in general! Definitely worth a visit! Next time we’re in the area again, we will pay this zoo a visit again!
Rikke J — Google review
Half of the animals can be fed. enclosures look voluptuous and designed according to tastes of f the residents, plenty of dog visitors. You get a bag of treats with your ticket
Vasillisa ש — Google review
Wonderful Zoo. Territory is not so big, but very green with a lot of shadow. Which is extremely helpful in hot day with more than 30° temperature outside. Interesting birds and animals, some of them people can be touched. They have a lot of places where people can sit and rest. Two playing yards for children. Places where people can eat. So very good and comfortable place where people can spend time with their children, friends, family or other.
Anastasiia H — Google review
A very good place to hang out if you like animals. It is the best when you are looking for a place to spend a Sunday afternoon, with your family and especially kids. The variety is pretty good and some animals are pretty unique. If you just want to take a quick tour of the place, it takes around 1 to 1.5 hours depending on you. If you come with your kids, there are loads of recreational activities for them. Overall, it was a very good visit and a fun experience!
Mitesh K — Google review
I just visited a week or so ago from Florida (I have family who live in Braunschweig), and found that the place was well shaded, and beautifully landscaped. The dining areas and restrooms were kept clean. There's lots of fun play areas for the kids. I hope to go for another visit on a future trip to Braunschweig.
Christine T — Google review
The first time that I sawthe name "Arc Noah",I thought I found a big Zoo with different kind of wild animals. But here is not so big and there is a limited amount of Animals. The worst point for the zoo is absebce of Lion in the city where mostly used Lion as a symbol. On the otherhand, allowance of feeding camels and others is so interesting. Have close contact with goats and sheeps also is so wonderful exprience. Eating option is also limited.
Amir S — Google review
Small and green with plenty for young kids to do and happy-looking tigers, cheetahs, raccoons and chipmunks. We brought a 2 1/2 year old on a beautiful fall day and had a great time. Plenty of places for adults to relax and enjoy a coffee or snack as well.

Braunschweiger Löwe

The Braunschweiger Löwe, also known as the Brunswick Lion, is a significant symbol of the city with deep historical roots. Originally commissioned by Duke Heinrich der Lo in 1166 to represent his power and presence, this iconic statue stands as a testament to the rich history of Braunschweig. Despite being heavily damaged during World War II, visitors can still admire a replica of the lion on Burgplatz and explore its significance at Dankwarderode Castle.
This is a beautiful square, with a lot of historical meaning. A must see in Braunschweig

Steg-Haus, located in Braunschweig, is a charming and inviting restaurant that remains beautiful and welcoming throughout the year. Its decorations are captivating and its cuisine offers a delightful variety of fresh, seasonal dishes. The cocktails and drinks served are also incredibly tasty. The staff at Steg-Haus is known for their friendly demeanor and willingness to accommodate guests with allergies or special requests.
This is one of the gems of Braunschweig, doesn't matter the season of the year, it is always beautiful and cozy, I love the decor! The food is delicious, variated and seasonal, which speaks for freshness. The cocktails and drinks also are quite tasty. The staff is friendly and always happy to assist you in case of allergies or other kind of requests. I can just recommend it!
Jani M — Google review
It pains me to have to do this, but the most recent meal I had at the Steg-Haus was so downright appalling, I cannot in all conscience any longer recommend it. In November 2021 I wrote: "Worth visiting for a pleasant night out, this [is an] attractive riverside restaurant on the edge of Braunschweig's central district... It's the first time I've seen Coq Au Vin on a restaurant menu in three decades. And how lovely it was to be reacquainted with an excellent example of this long-forgotten staple. A good quality corn-fed bird cooked in a properly rich and winey sauce..." I gave it an appreciative three stars. How things have changed - for the worse. I am sad to report that the Steg-Haus's deeply unimaginative summer menu dispenses with any such item. It's all grill stuff: steaks and burgers and Caesar salads with the odd bit of chicken or vegetarian platter thrown in. Dull, dull, and for the life of me I don't know what makes this heavy fare any more "seasonal" than what was on offer before. In fact there's a marked absence of seasonal produce. Still, we'd booked; but we ended up very much wishing we hadn't. The tapas starter we shared was passable, but after that everything was awful. Not least because everything arrived at the table barely lukewarm -- even the fried onions, hideously! My rib eye steak was dreadful, overcooked way beyond what I had asked for, and with a streak of gristle running through it. And cold. My baked potato was, paradoxically, only just "done", instead of steaming and fluffy as it should be. And cold. My wife's burger was cold. Ditto her chips (pommes) - cold. Of course, I ate the steak, gristle and all. I was hungry. I didn't finish the potato. The only bit I enjoyed was the corn on the cob. This was one of the worst meals out I have recently endured. Sorry, but there it is. And it'll take a lot to get me back in there. Which is a great shame.
Christopher T — Google review
Extremely well placed restaurant, with a stunning view on the river below, this hidden gem of Braunschweig should definitely be visited on the warm summer evenings. The only reason it gets 4 stars and not 5 is that the serving took quite a long time (not their fault, they had to go up and down the stairs a lot)
Andrei S — Google review

One of the worst services I ever had in my life. We stayed one hour in the place and haven’t eat anything, since they delayed 20 minutes to approach us to the order and in 40 minutes couldn’t bring the breakfasts. The only thing that came to us were the coffees and the sugaries we ordered. They also didn’t pay attention to us the whole time we were there. Terrible, don’t go.

Nestled in the heart of Braunschweig, Ristorante Il Sorriso is a modern dining gem that invites you to indulge in authentic Italian cuisine. With a charming terrace perfect for al fresco dining, this restaurant offers an array of classic dishes ranging from delectable antipasti and fresh pasta to crispy pizzas. It's not just about traditional fare; vegetarians and health-conscious diners will find plenty of delightful options as well.
It was so good I didn't even think about taking pictures. :) The place is in the city centre, it's classy, cozy and very pleasant. The staff is amazingly friendly - even with the full restaurant, they still take time to explain offer, they are nice to you and smile. A lot of restaurants should follow their example. They have a wide range of meals, for me - gluten free person - this place is a heaven! They offer gluten free pasta and pizza and they automatically bring you a gluten free bruschetta as an appetizer. It melted my heart, seriously. Last but not least, the meals are delicious! We went twice, therefore I tried both pasta and pizza and I don't remember the last time I was so happy about food. Wine is great as well. I strongly recommend this place to everyone, not only GF people.

Food Quality: in general i would say quite good. Some dishes were not as good as expected, but decent food. Portions: good quantity of food. I was full before the main course. Drinks: plenty of options from soft-drinks, beer, wine, cocktails, to the typical hot beverages such as tea and coffee Price: $$$-$$$$ very expensive in some items that are not supposed to be. Pizzas and drinks too expensive, and main dishes also a bit over priced. Service: very friendly and always ready to assist. The food was quite slow to come out, but i would like to believe it was due to us being in a large group. Atmosphere: big restaurant. Good for meeting people in groups and celebrations. Highlights: good food. Things to improve: prices definitely too high. Payment Method: cash, cc

It was a nice and calm location to have dinner. The restaurant was not crowded and there was ample seatings for a drop in. We went during the weekday, but I have seen it a little crowded over the weekend. Reservations recommended, if over a weekend. The dishes and the service was good. A good experience. The only disappointment was the risotto was too salty for my taste buds, not sure if it is always prepared as salty.

From france 🇫🇷 Title: A Taste of Italy's Finest: Gnocchis and Perfectly Crafted Coffee! Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Stars Today i had the pleasure of eating at this incredible Italian restaurant, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy atmosphere that instantly transported me to the heart of Italy. Let's talk about the star of the show: the gnocchis. Oh my goodness! They were nothing short of phenomenal. Each delicate morsel melted in my mouth, revealing a perfect balance of softness and slight chewiness. The accompanying sauce was a masterpiece in itself, bursting with rich flavors that danced on my taste buds. It was evident that the chef had put their heart and soul into crafting this culinary marvel. As a coffee aficionado, I am always on the lookout for the perfect cup of joe, and this restaurant exceeded all expectations. The barista's expertise was evident in every sip of the perfectly crafted coffee I enjoyed after my meal. The aroma alone was intoxicating, and the taste was nothing short of exceptional. It was smooth, robust, and had just the right amount of acidity. I couldn't have asked for a better way to end my dining experience. Beyond the delectable food and drink, the staff at this restaurant were attentive and knowledgeable. They took the time to explain the menu, offering valuable suggestions based on their expertise. Their genuine passion for the cuisine and dedication to providing exceptional service made my visit truly memorable. The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall experience. Soft, dimmed lighting, tasteful decor, and soothing background Italian music created an intimate and romantic setting. It was the perfect place for a cozy dinner or a relaxed evening with friends and family. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Whether you're a food enthusiast, a lover of Italian cuisine, or simply looking for a memorable dining experience, this establishment will undoubtedly leave you satisfied. Don't miss the opportunity to savor their heavenly gnocchis and indulge in their meticulously prepared coffee. It's a gastronomic journey that you won't soon forget. We come back next week ! Hadrien

A cosy Italian restaurant offering quality food. The buffalo mozzarella starter and the chocolate lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream really stood out! I expected a bit more from the saffron lachs (or salmon fish) which didn’t have any notable note of saffron. The accompanying vegetables were quite oily and were a little bit oversalted. The presentation itself could have been better too. All in all, it was a good experience.

Nice Italian restaurant with great atmosphere and probably the best Italian restaurant in Braunschweig! It’s a very quite location and can be recommended for business and private events. The quality of the food is really good although the portions could be slightly bigger (that’s why we only give 4 stars) the wine and grappa selection is really good, too. The staff is very friendly and competent.
