Free parking, tour takes 70mins, guide gave speech in local language and we had English notes. Nice and cool underground. Above ground limited artefacts to view but very enjoyable. Gift shop and snacks available.

We were just outdoor, but still a worth time we spent there. Kids had fun, there is very good exposition of rocks and minerals. The video for kids is very interesting, however, in slovak only so it has no value for a foreign visitor. Visits to the mines are scheduled every hour.

A bit creepy to be under ground in a place that's dark and dripping and where walking is a bit awkward because of the old mine tracks under your feet. But really well managed, with helmets and raincoats to protect you from too much damage. Unfortunately the tour was only in Slovak but the written English explanation helped. And the extra guide who speaks enough good English to explain what we asked. Great experience!

Nice experience for adults and kids too. Reasonably staffed (helphull ladies at shop/coffee). Wide exterior/ground exposition and intresting mine/undergroud area. Could do with coat exchange (ones you get to protect your clothes)as some are worn down.

Fun experience. But if you are a non Slovak speaker, you will need to pay an extra €20 for an English tour guide, which is I didn't do. But go inside the tunnel is still fun to do.

One of the stop of the tour train. Take this little red train hop on hop off to watch around the old town, joyful to be bumped up and down all the way. The highlight in the town is to visit the ancient underground mine. Different from the salt mines in Poland and Austria, due to the volcanic eruption, the metal mines here are rich in gold, silver and copper, and are narrow, dark and humid. There are running water on both sides of the trail, and sleeping upside-down bats can be seen in the cave, close at hand. There are 14 levels in total, the top two levels are open for visitors, 50 meters deep, 8-9 degrees Celsius, equipped with helmet searchlights, and the whole journey takes 90-100 minutes to walk.

That's a nice castle museum where you can see relics and get info on the historical event around the Osman Turkish invasion. There are printed guides in different languages, the view from here is awesome. The parking lot is not far from here, 2 mimutes walk maybe. The staff is helpful.

Castle showing exhibits relating to the military aspects of the local area and the interaction with the Ottoman Turks. Whilst interesting was quite limited and I felt that more could have been done with the top floor showing how the e land and the locals interaction with it had changed

One of many attractions in Banská Štiavnica. Na Castle was built as defensive and observatory tower during the way with Turkish soldiers during medieval time. That's also the topic for expositions inside the Castle. There are many weapons, pictures and maps explaining this difficult time of the history of this region. There are also wonderful vie from the top. I recommend coming after dark in winter time to see Calvary lit with lights. There is steep path leading towards Castle made of uneven stone which is not good for stroller. There are many stairs inside the Castle which makes it complicated for little children and elderly people. Even though there are many things to see and read about, I don't think you need to reserve more than 45 minutes for your visit. There are no guided tours there, you will be able to ask for paper guide in multiple languages, though.

New Castle, fortification to protect Turkish invasions in medieval times in very important mining town of Banska Stiavnica. Small entrance fee worth coming in. Inside exhibition of wars with Turkish. And amazing views over town itself and nearby Calvary.

Paid parking everywhere in town at outrageous prices but the revenue seems to be more embezzled by the corrupted municipality rather than spent to renovate this castle. The roughcast is falling appart, grass not cut.... Nothing worth the climb.

A 50min tour that includes 20min video, 10min photo shooting in a room with love letters, 15 min in a room with the original book, 5 min that tells you to put your love letter in the bank for 100 euros. The tour costs 12 euros and it's a bit expensive for what is worth. In my opinion you pay only for the photo in the room with love letters. The story is very very plain and short. If you have high expectations or you are short of time, you could avoid this place. You can see the room in the photos here. If you have spare time and you wish to put your names in the love bank for 100 euros then you can go for it. Fun tour to spend your time in this small city.

On march 17 2023 a fire lay waste to several historic building in the centre of the town. As you can see from the photo, the love bank was turned into a pile of rubble and smoking remains…

Sadly this place burned down in 2023. A lot of neighbouring houses were badly damaged as well. In the street is currently a photo exhibition which shows the efforts of the firefighters and of the general public that came to help carry artworks to safety.

Very beautiful place! I absolutely recommend it to anybody. Doesn't matter if you're going there with your partner or group of friends. Wonderful experience of love story between Marína and one of biggest literary personality of Slovakia.

We weren't allowed to go to the shop because we did do the tour. Receptionist said "it would not make sense for us". She looked little slow so I didn't take it personally. I truly hope this is not enforced by the owner.

Loved the design and the whole concept built around the longest love poem ever written ( official guinness world record). Great place which is still yet to be discovered by many tourists. Definitely this is early stage and the great times of this attraction will come. You should hurry up though, cause the love bank has limited lifetime boxes :)

Interesting castle. The inner keep was originally a (large) church. Nice views over the town. Lots of steep stairs if you want to see everything.

Small old castle with central church and high walls. Walk the walls and climb to the towers for great views of the city and countryside, and peruse a few demonstrations of the local history and people. Worth the small fee.

The old castle boasts really great views of the city, but it does not give you access to them. The tower with the Gothic staircase leads you up only to a closed tower with no viewing platform. The inside of the castle is largely empty, although you can walk the ramparts. Overall, it is overpriced for what you are getting. They should spend more money on the main clock tower itself and allow visitors to go up. Inside, the expositions should have larger explanations as the ones near the statues were too small to read.

One of the most interesting castles I've visited here in Slovakia. Amongst the many things to see within the castle grounds, it houses an exhibition of the famous Zachar Karol clay pipe making workshop, there is a breath taking series of altar paintings/sculptures of the way of the cross, and a beautiful bell tower you can climb. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The castle is only open once every two hours for visitors, and tickets are available for purchase by cash only.

It didn’t feel that safe but I didn’t get hurt and it was very cool it was so old that’s why it was so scary. it’s worth it buying a ticket you should go there.

Very cool visit! Part of the visit (inside of the former church) is with an interesting commentary from the castle guide. The lady is happy to reply to your questions and offers very thorough background info re the castle, its history, the town itself and also re the history of Kalvaria. You can climb up and walk around the walls and go up to the main tower. There are placed the original paintings on wood from Kalvaria. It worth visiting and seeing them. Wear comfortable shoes as some wooden stairs are very steep and small! Toilettes available

Very fun, interactive experience for all ages. Demonstrations of history and mining through videos and props, and an immersive experience going back in time from space to dinosaurs. It's a work in progress but very enjoyable.

I visited the place with my class during our school trip to the town. The owner and the staff was very kind and helpful. The teenagers really enjoyed the attractions very much.

It was amazing historical tourism place. They gave us many information about history of Banská Štiavnica.

We had a great 1 night stay in room No 2. Clean & well equipped room with the best selection of TV channels I have ever seen in Slovakia. Good WiFi. Nice breakfast (including great scrambled eggs) on the terrace. Friendly owner on hand to make sure you have a great stay. 25 minute walk to the centre of town but pavement all the way.

I can not recommend this hotel enough, they have gone out of there way to make our stay awesome. When we told them we were leaving early they even opened the kitchen an hour early to make us breakfast. Just lovely people in a great location.

Very relaxing accomodation with beautiful view over the city. The room was cozy and the terrace in front of it offered a nice view, which was perfect for a warm summer night. My last night in Slovakia. This pension is superb. I had my last meal here too. Everything is great. It's a happy ending of my Slovakia trip.

At first I wanted to rate this guest-house lower, since on a first night I could hear neighboring room's residents talking until really late and I could hear breakfast preparations in the morning. Second night was better though. So what I was pleasantly surprised is the kitchen, the meals are large and taste really good. Also the staff is very nice and attentive, even friendly. Main attraction was the view. It was superb to sit down for a drink after hike and have a bear on the terrace, or have a filling breakfast looking at the scenery. Prices are higher, but that applies for many places we visited in BS, which is just flabbergasting.

My husband and I decided to go to this bar based on a friend's recommendation. There was almost full and we had sits next to toilet. Then we asked waitress and she moved us. We ordered just wine and olives. My husband’s red wine had a disgusting flavor. It wasn’t fresh and new opened bottle. The waitress changed it (she was very attentive) but that glass was charged in price. Of course we didn’t pay that. Otherwise it’s a nice and cozy cafe with beautiful lighting

The spaghetti with mushrooms and black truffle was one of the best Italian dishes that I’ve had. The pasta was freshly made and the overall dish was amazing. The wait staff are very attentive and the drinks, salad were great. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Ruin Bar is the best place in Banská Štiavnica. It always has a pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff, with live music and truly delicious food. I would especially like to highlight the waiters Nazar and Eliška, who welcomed us with a smile and were attentive and kind. The food was served very quickly, and special thanks to the chefs for the incredibly tasty Caesar salad!

The place is 5* in every respect. The cappuccino is delicious and creamy. The lemonades were one of the tastiest and tastiest drinks of our life. Our waitress was very kind, but she did not speak English. But we solved it! The place is fascinating, worth walking around and looking around. You have to see the bathroom too, it's worth it! It is a great place to relax and enjoy the place.

Don’t eat the Tapas! Really, don’t. We tried eight of the dishes. While we did not try the risotto and the spaghetti, you might have better luck with that. But for the Tapas, it was the cheapest ingredients and not well prepared. It’s really hard to save a dish when you don’t even invest in quality produce.

Dirty tables, slow staff (The waitress took a lot of time to take orders and also chaos with it) but good food. I was surprised that the pizza was tasty. Take care of the garlic - they automatically add the garlic to the pizza.

The pizza I ordered cost about €11, but the quality was terrible. The dough didn’t even seem like proper pizza dough, and the ingredients were of disappointingly low quality for that price. There are a few more things I’d like to mention: We couldn’t pay by card. The waitress looked bored and annoyed. However, the area itself is very nice, and I enjoyed the interior with its “mining drift” theme.

Epic fail this place. The prices are the same as in Bratislava but the food and the service is not even remotely close. Pizza is watery and heavy. They don’t even bother serving real Kofola but choose a cheaper variant instead. Maybe to get even bigger margins on already overpriced rubbish food. We should have read the reviews before coming here for lunch. 10euros for a pizza is total rip off. They should visit any pizza place in a bigger town to see what you should charge 10euros for. On top of that they do not accept credit cards. No wonder this place is empty.

If you like ready-made frozen pizza, this place is for you. These are the most flattering words I could find to describe the food in this restaurant. The waiters gave an impression they would prefer not to be there and I definitely shared their sentiment, but as no other restaurant in the city centre could take a group of 18 this was the only option. As regards the atmosphere, the place definitely gave a breath of history, which was strenghtened by the fact that the they only accepted cash.

Pizza was good, nothing special, but a lot of kinds of it and a thin dough. Fast service, big portions even enough for two. Two disadvantages are that you can not pay with card (and they don't warn about that) and that there are absolutely no lights in the WC.

Excellent experience at Pivovar ERB: the goulash was delicious with very tender meat, the steak tartare fresh and seasoned, and the onion rings were perfect and tasty, perfect for pairing with their craft beer. The pork tenderloin, goulash, and chocolate lava cake were all delicious, and the beer on offer was quite good. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, and the service was friendly and attentive. Wasn’t crowded at lunchtime on Saturday, maybe because it’s not cheap 😀 but food was very good, and service efficient, we really enjoyed our meal. We especially recommend their special beer ice cream 😋

I used to visit this restaurant regularly, but my last visit yesterday was a total disappointment. Prices have gone up, while the quality of the food has dropped significantly compared to three years ago. Even the friendly waiter couldn’t make up for the poor quality of what’s being served at such a high price. My son even said his school canteen is better... and, I had to agree. The baked chicken with potato purée was something I could easily make better at home, and certainly not for €25.50 per person. The chicken soup at €5.70 was no exception. Honestly, most people could cook a better one themselves. Final verdict: If you don’t want to throw money out the window for food you could get in your company canteen for €6, skip the meals here. Just have a beer and say adios.

Overall a dissappointment, did not meet our expectations from the reviews/ratings. Large selection of thought out dishes, finish and execution left a lot to be desired (potatoes weren’t properly done, bread was too plain and ordinary, pastry was brittle and “old”) all of the above would be less dissappointing if it were not for the fact that the waitress had made a very negative impression - body language whilst we were handling the bill. Would not visit again nor recommend. Overpriced and dissappointed.

Nice restaurant in the center of the town. They have really tasty pasta there, so if you want pasta, this is only place I recommend. Waitresses are kind and will satisfy your empty stomachs.

I didn t have such a bad food in a long time I ve ordered grilled chicken wings with salad this had nothing to do with grilling .... made plain on oil fried quickly salad was at least two days old nothing could save this including very unpleasent service, this is definetly place to avoid.

The Castle and Museum are an amazing and unexpected gem of historical collections, mainly from the travels and expeditions of Ferdinand I of Belgium, who held this castle in his family and seems to have used it often. However, some of the history goes back even to the 1700s. There are numerous original paintings, photographs, and other artwork, furniture, and other historical items to look at. There is a guided tour in Slovakian with a detailed English written guide. The staff also speak English. I would recommend planning at least two hours for this visit.

Great Mansion and museum inside. Right next to the entrance to English garden you will find a former landlord vila- Sovi Dom (The Owl House), currently being served as accommodation- 3 historical apartments inside (www.sovidom.sk).

Very interesting and well preserved castle. The no-photo policy is absolutely inept. The more pictures taken and shared with family, friends, social networks, the more likely people will come and pay to visit as well.

Surrounding area is really nice. You can visit park which is next to museum. You can cool down there in shadows of threes. Closest parking cost 3€ per day. There is only Slovak guide, but they can give you papers with text to read. Personal is really nice with positive attitude. Hint: take a big circle. Is really nice to see all rooms and chapel. Amazing place. Must visited in Banska Štiavnica. As you go up the path, you come across scenes of Christ and Mary. Although it is a difficult path, you must definitely reach the top and enjoy the view.

Parking under the hill is chargeable at two different spots (one inside the Infocentre area and another on side of the road). You can park further away free of charge and this adds 10min walk. The walk up is probably 20 mins with all photo stops etc. At the first building you can buy entrance to the top church and see the surrounding from better views. Amazing family trip!

A nice historic site. It’s quite the climb, but it’s quick. Nice views of the surrounding area if you pay to go to the top tower. Parking is €4 for two hours at the infocentrum, but there are few spots if it’s a busy day. The best photo options are not at the top, but before you climb or at the hill right beside it. This route place has free parking, but might take a bit longer.

Smallish but pretty gardens. Nice sequoia trees. We tried to drive there but there was absolutely no parking available anywhere. We ended up catching a bus from town which was a much better option. Or you could walk but it’s uphill from town.

Some great trees. The Giant Sequoias are an only 143 years old but will live to be 3500 to 4000.

Botanically beautiful, but the funding is lacking and it starts to show. Little to no upkeep for the infrastructure.

The garden is rather small but very charming! You get to see the mysterious and beautiful sequoias and if you're lucky enough you'll spot some of the squirrels as well.

It's wooden made masterpiece with sceneries of Betlehem, Miner's life, Siege of Banska Stiavnica and daily life ☺️ Entry fee is ONLY 1,5€ and you can also take photos and videos as you can see 😊 It is really useless to add photos or videos, you must see it 🤗 I also bought small Betlehem as an additional support 😊

If you are nearby this is a 'must see' attraction. The room is filled with exquisite carvings telling the stories and tales of the local area. Many of the carvings are animated and you keep on seeing new thing everywhere you look in the room. It is difficult to pull yourself away. It is only a small room a so you feel you cannot stay too long so that others can enjoy the delight of the place.

Incredible piece of art with thousands of hours of work invested into it. a lifetime masterpiece!

Beautiful and definitely place to see when visiting Banská Štiavnica. You won’t spend a lot of time here but the small entrance fee is definitely worth it.

Pretty steep hill up, with beautiful views. We got back another way, going to see the castle ruins and taking adjecent path back to the clearing. As there are multiple parking spot make sure you're going the right way, as it is easy to go wrong way as there aren't a lot of signs along the route.

Very nice walk from Pocuvadlo lake following the blue route/ markings.

Nice and rather short hike (cca 1h following the green marking off the Počuvadlo lake). First half mid-steep very rocky path (parts in water in rainy May), then beautiful meadows and the final part (blue marking) steep, surrounded by tall rocks. The wooden stairs desperately ask for renewal - be careful. The view from the top is magnificent. You can see the entire collapsed mid of the stratovolcano crater. Nearby, you can find ruins of a castle, unavoidable giant transmitter tower (unfortunately). The Andrej Kmeto cottage is in a very poor condition.

Very strange experience, the burgers were good, however the blue dip was awful, we were considering to ask how they make it. The salad was a joke, for 11 euros!!!! Would recommend only as a short pit stop and for burgers only.

The burgers have some unusual flavors, I'll give them that. But they were a total miss for me and my girlfriend. She couldn't finish half of hers, which I am usually happy about because it means more for me, but here it was a struggle. For such a high price (€17 + €3.50 for beer), I expected way more. Totally not worth the visit, in my opinion.

Keep in mind that the kitchen here closes at 20:00, even on a friday night. The gorgonzola burger was very tasty and well prepared in our case, but the unfiltered beer was a total miss. It was sour, probably gone bad, I recommend you to try a bottled beer instead if necessary.

I hate to give places 1 star but there is no way I could give this place more than 1. Burgers had a very weird taste and we paid 13€ for one burger!! I would also love to taste gorgonzola in a gorgonzola burger and not a ton of onions. The only good thing about this place was the staff- they were friendly and we waited a very short time for our meal. Shame, we were looking forward to this experience.

This is really hard review to write, however quiet simple in the end. Absolutely fantastic and amazing burgers. Hands down one of the Best I have eaten in my life ...All been let down by lady servant. I really don't know what happened to her in her life, however it doesn't give her right to treat people this way. It's not that she was rude per sei, but she was rude and simply wrong person at wrong place ( job position ). Message for owner - replace this lady immediately ... We literally sat at the empty restaurant enjoying amazing burgers and seen young couple to leave after a single interaction with her , they looked discussed.

Very good burger. Meat was properly cooked, juicy and pink in middle. Size of meals are enough and you not leaving place stuffed with food coma. We had 2 burgers, shared one fries and dessert - fresly baked lava cake. Drinks was very good, also coffee. Nice place for lunch or dinner. Staff was nice and friendly

New generation restaurant in a good central location. Really nice service that enhances the ambience, which would otherwise remain somewhat anonymous. The cuisine is intended to be an alternative to the usual Slovak menus without being a classic ethnic cuisine franchise. Plenty of room for improvement, but an excellent starting point.

Excellent restaurant in the heart of Banská Štiavnica. We had the pulled pork burger and 1-2-3 menu with rice, chicken and singapur (peanut) sauce. Both tasted excellent. Good beer. Recommended! We were the only ones in the restaurant, service was good.

We stopped here because we found out they have vegan options (which is hard to find in this region). We wanted to order vegan curry but it wasn't available. Then we chose Vegan burger but after double checking if it's vegan (because allergens labeled weren't suggesting it's vegan) the waitress said it's vegan but in homemade bun is milk...I said that means it's not vegan at all. Honestly, I was shocked they offering a burger named vegan burger and labeling it with vegan symbol but then it's not vegan at all. Definitely not recommended if you have allergies, they don't know what they are labeling...it seems what they're doing is only for business (attract tourists there) and don't realise how much impact it can have for people's health if they serve something which is labeled as vegan but in real life it's not. I have severe allergies and one of them is a milk allergy so I'm glad I double checked. If you are going there definitely double check if food which you ordered contains milk/eggs/animal products or in numerical terms (1-14). 3 = eggs 7= all dairy products, so keep an eye out for those if you're vegan. I would rather avoid next time though. Not worth the risk, especially if you have allergens. Waitress wasn't very nice either and whole atmosphere was very cold (colder than outside)

Despite some other reviews, our experience was really good. The food was tasty and after a long time I ended up eating something new and good. My son had a burger and even he was happy. We will come again if we manage. I certainly recommend the restaurant. One of the reviewers said,that the restaurant was empty. By us as well,but the whole city is abandoned and thank god this restaurant does not give up on people and waits for customers despite the off season situation. If not, we would have to end up in some overpriced 2 star restaurant in the centre. Keep up the good work and do not get discouraged by some reviewers,we were really satisfied!

We had a lovely dinner with great food at a reasonable price and a friendly host who made us feel welcome and took the time to explain (and translate) the menu for us. There is an English menu, but the specials are Slovak. The food was fresh and lovely (especially the peanut sauce) and the lemonade is made by the host's grandmother. There are plenty of vegan options, too.

We had a great experience here, tucked away from the main street. The food was delicious, we had the burger bowl and the special bowl and everything tasted great and was very fresh. Very well priced and nice area for seating outside.

I had veal with potatoes and salad. This was one of my top five meals in Europe. Rusty the owner was very attentive to the guests and cooking the same time. After I was finished Rusty gave me a traditional after meal drink as a thank you. I very highly recommend this restaurant and the people who work there.

We love to visit 4 Sochy for special occasions, because their food is simply amazing, cooked with love and high quality ingrediences. Some meals remind you of lunches at your grandma when you were little, only they're fancier. Thank you for your passionate work!

Wonderful restaurant with a great atmosphere created by a nice fireplace, artwork from local artist and a glass wall to the kitchen enabling the guests to see the magic happen. We managed to get a table although we didn't do a reservation (I recommend calling ahead as places are limited) and had an amazing meal. Ingredients are seasonal and mostly locally sourced (obviously hake doesn't come from Slovakia 🙃) and the menu is limited to 5 - 6 options, which makes sure all are made to perfection. We ordered quail on beetroot risotto and hake in mustard honey sauce with baked potatoes. For appetizers we had bruschetta with salmon and egg. Best mustard honey sauce I've ever tried, quail was succulent and hake amazing. My personal preference would be a slightly more softer rice in the risotto, but I respect the chef's choice. We ended the dinner with crème brûlée which was excellent, with a perfect sugar crust. We had two glasses of wine dinner and although it was a bit pricey, it was well worth it. Excellent service and will be back for sure.

Nice restaurant, We sat in the patio which was very beautiful. The service was good but a little too pushy, we felt like they are rushing us. Unfortunately the food wasn't good as it looked, We ordered a tuna steak which was cold and served on a cold salad/sauce and I didn't think that combination worked well. We also had the risotto and the rice was not cooked enough. But we really enjoyed the burrata bruschetta! ❤️

Very good restaurant. I think best in Banská Štiavnica (for my gf best in Slovakia). Food is amazing, sometimes you think "nothing special" according to what is written on menu but when it comes on your table you change your mind. It's à la carte restaurant so menu is limited (changing, don't know how often) and a bit pricey but we think it's worth the visit. On top if this they have very nice inner yard with lot of green plants and also they own coffe room which we didn't try yet. On busy days reservation is recommended.

I must say whilst the decor of this hotel is historic and pleasant the management is unpleasant and not accommodating. They are a pet friendly hotel which is good . But you must keep in mind that their checkout requirement of 10am is very early , non accommodating and rigid ! Their excuse is that they are understaffed and cannot turn rooms around for 4 hours . In most places are pubs the world check out is 11 am or noon and most hotels can give a grace of 30 minutes to an hour if asked nicely but clearly not on this case . Therefore , I would NOT stay here again or recommend this to hotel to anyone who wishes to stay . Slovakia has lots of lovely inns or hotels where the Managment and most are very welcoming and warm to foreign guests but sadly not in this one !

This is the most traditional Slovak accommodation as it can get. This entire place has traditional looking furniture, murals on the walls and there is even a little souvenir store with local products. Breakfast was nice and still rich even though we eat only vegetarian. Our only issue was that rooms above the restaurant were incredibly hot even though it was only 20 degrees outside ( can’t imagine how it feels during hot summer days) and the kitchen smell is all the time in your room despite constantly opened windows. Overall a good stay! I recommend booking a room in the second part of the house ( away from the kitchen).

Great atmosphere, clean place, they even got a soap for the toilet seat (a heaven for me XD). Fast service and delicious meals (we had grilled lamb leg and meat "pirohy" these vere truly great). Very friendly staff. The good food quality corresponds with a fairly higher price.

Very nice environment and good food. Garlic soup as well as "dendele" and "sulance" were great. "Liptovske dzgance" (gnocchi with sheep cheese) had plain taste - not salty and the sheep cheese was not strong enough. We ordered 6 teas and we got a bunch of teabags, one of each sorts they have. To get two bags of green tea was a bit confusing for the waitress. Parking nearby, possibility of accomodation upstairs. I recommend during summer, when the sheep cheese has the strong pungent taste.

Traditional food, reasonable prices, you can pay with credit card, the restaurant is really nice, the waiters understand English, they have dedicated parking space. Totally recommended, try it.

I like the hotel and resort—they’re good for kids—but they have a strong dislike for ski-tourers and the employees of the ski areal are just rude! This is the third time I’ve had some issue. Once, they threw me out, while I was going up (empty sloper) claiming it was prohibited to go up the side of the slope, without offering any explanation. Another time, I was simply pulling my 2-year-old on flat ground teaching her to ski, and they told me it wasn’t allowed and that I should hire an instructor—even though the instructors told me they don’t take children that young. Most recently, I went on the slope after it was closed at 5pm, and a guy jumped out of a snowcat, yelling like a madman, saying I was disrupting his work and asking why I was on the part he had just finished grooming. He was incredibly angry and completely unreasonable. Overall, a terrible experience.

This ski resort is small and easy for beginners and family with kids. Nearby is also ice skating place and hotel with restaurant. On top of the hill is nice view over the town Banska Stiavnica 😏

What a great time with the World Gold Panning event at the Salamandra Resort. Bit difficult to communicate, their English is not very good.

Great geological experience for the whole family. First, there was an "scientific" intro about Štiavnica strato vulcano and some safety instructions done by funny guide/owner. Then we walker to the Quartz quarry, where there was enough time to dig and colect Quartz cristals. There are 'tons' of it, everyone was happy with findings. Ideal time for cristal looking - come as a first group after rain :) .

This is an exceptionally well-curated museum. It provides a comprehensive overview of the development and technical tools of mining. If someone doesn't speak Slovak, they definitely need a translation program because practically everything is in Slovak, which is a drawback, but it can be overcome and is truly worth it. We spent 2-3 hours inside and finally got answers to many of our questions about mining. It's a fantastic program, absolutely worth checking out!

Interesting museum describing the rich centuries long history of mining in Banska Stiav., and of Slovakia.

Terrific museum: many interesting old photographs and devices, as well as beautifully made intricate models. The exhibit is in slovakian, but photo captions are also in english, and there is a good free english audiotour as well.

Detska dielnicka at Kammerhof is a dream of every parent.. very friendly mentors, very creative activities.. one must be lucky to be in Banska on the days Dielnicky are being organized..

Nice walk underground and you get to see some interesting mining history. Like most Slovak museums, it would be so nice if the tour guide could speak English. There were two Slovak visitors in a group of 15, so the guide’s explanations were lost on most of us

The only downside is the pricetag. I loved the presentation alongside the excursion. The staff were lovely. Not great for students considering the 9€ entry and no student discount.

This is very nice tour. You crawl complete under the main Street of city in old and authentic mine path. With the coat, helmet nad hand light ...and very refreshing in hot summer ..must go.

Above expectations experience. Walk through old underground mining was awesome. Guide man speak history in the interesting way.

A really bad experience. First time we came, we found a small paper saying there is a lunch break (only in Slovak). Second time we came, we found another small Slovak paper on the door saying "I will be back in 5 mins". We tried opening the door and turns out the person was there, so he opened for us. We asked about the hiking paths and the man was rude and unhelpful and in the end tried to sell us stuff.

I went to the information centre to find out about thermal spas in the nearby towns - One of the most popular tourist attractions in the area. I have never seen anyone as disinterested in providing information as the lady behind the counter to whom I spoke. It seemed like she hated her job and especially tourists, and only gave one-word replies if possible. All she would tell me was in which towns the spas were. She couldn't provide any information about what was on offer or prices. When I asked if she could tell me how to get there by bus she shrugged and said "Humph... I'd have to look that up on the internet", but couldn't be bothered to actually do so. Staff in tourist information centres need to be knowledgeable, enthusiastic about their town and surrounds and eager to help people.

Today we visited restaurant couse we wanted to have some drinks and some snacks. Terrace was totally empty. It was 5 of us plus baby. We sat at table for 4 people. And they started to make a problem for us that we should move for table for 5 but I wanted to have my baby close to me so we preferred to sit at table for 4 couse it was smaller and more cosy. Later on waiter (male) was very rude to us when I ordered frech fries. I was shocked couse we didn't do anything bad.. He said how he should work, couse we are blocking his way, ect ..ect.. I was really shocked how come someone working at the restaurant can treat the customers this way. My experience was very disappointing. Expecially restaurant was completely empty. Next table 2 people with kid came, but after this incident they decided to leave. Also 1 more thing, I ordered 1 glass of prosecco, they brought me Frizzante, fair enough, but when I asked where is it at the menu, they said is not written there. They said they are serving it but is not mentioned at the menu.

It's nice for this price. There was a delicious breakfast.(but it's better to start breakfast earlier for better choice). The room is OK, clean, quiet, warm; old furniture but it's not a disadvantage , it has its own charm. The room's trash bin was broken. Also I would like to have a cattle in the room, but maybe it is not equal to 3-stars Hotel.

Hi...I can highly recommended this place...we have had recently a celebration of my mother's 85th birthday there and everything was just perfect. The table was nicely set up, the food excellent and stuff friendly and professional...they even prepared vases for flowers and did not bother about my three years old grandson, running around and trying to communicate with them. Despite we were not guests staying for night, they let us park our cars in the yard because of my mum walking problems. We spent a lovely time there and definitely we will come there again.

Friendly staff, act pro-actively & service minded (which is not typical in Eastern Europe) and the food was really good. Five stars in comparison to other venues visited in Slovakia.

First of all, we had no idea this was a vegan restaurant, but leaving the bistro we were very satisfied! The atmosphere is very cozy, we managed to get a window table and enjoyed the city atmosphere. Menu is very diverse, don’t expect any typical Slovak dishes. But you will get to choose from various asian, eastern-european and caucassian meals. All of them being VERY tasty! We started with Tom-Yum full of mushrooms mildly spicy, then I went for Plov (Uzbekistan) and ate it whole which I believed won’t be possible after the soup, but it was amazing. Finally someone who can bake garlic propperly!! Then we ended the session with deep-fried banana. Just yummy! Looking forward to our next visit 🙃

The best food in Banska Stiavnica, without a doubt! I wish they had a branch in Bratislava too, as there isn't a comparable restaurant yet. The cuisine is imaginative and includes dishes from all over the world. The wine and lemonade are amazing, and the service is lovely. We love the interior design and sitting in the window seats that have the best view. Whenever we're in Stiavnica, we only eat here, sometimes even twice a day. Keep up the great work! 💚

We arrived with 2 dogs because we saw the restaurant is dog friendly so it was not a question. Really nice atmosphere the waitresses were super kind and helpful. Lot of choices from the menu. I had the ceburek and my fianceé had the chinkali. No words just wow! Amazing!

Amazing food and great service. So nice and helpful waitresses. Delicious, we were here many times and you have to try not just main dishes but their “Krémeš” (a vegan version of traditional cake). Definitely coming back when around.

Nice and modern interior. Menu is vegan with meals from all around the world. We had very tasty homemade udon noodles and tom yam soup - perfect. We vame back next day for the Kremes dessert and you could not miss it - awesome. Portions was enough for us and we was glad for it. Food was not very good, it was edible, but way too much spice Rissoto had a garlic sauce on top of it, couldn't taste anything else just garlic. Meat, wayyy too much black pepper to a point where it was spicy. Waitress look overwhelmed, like she could use some help. 3/10 overall.

We ordered risotto with herbs and mozzarela and this is what we got. Dry rice with a yoghurt based sauce and a bit of grated "mozzarella" on top. It was inedible. The service was also very slow and unprofessional. The only good thing was that they didn't charge us for the dish since we didn't even touch it.

We have taken decision to visit this place without seeing the ranking, entered the place, which was really very simple snd then we went to google ranking. We were thinking to leave but finally gave a chance them. Food was ready in about 15 minutes, taste was really good and team of restaurant with very friendly approach. So don’t expect fancy environment, but service and food are definitely better than current ranking. I would suggest to owner to invest very tiny money to new tables and chairs. Rest is there. Black M is the best place in Banská Štiavnica. Very friendly staff, tasty food and lovely surroundings in historical city centre. We were working in city for live broadcasting of International cycling race and we worked till late night. Owner is very caring and we felt like at home. Thank you! We recommend this tasty place😉

Visited the location under Kalvaria in August 2023. After sitting at a table for 25 minutes, unnoticed by any of the staff, I gave up and left. Noticed that other guests had the same problem. Last year, all tables featured a sign that asked guests to order at the bar inside; this year the signs have been missing. As I understand, the restaurant is under new management this year, so I assumed there was table service now, but it's possible the staff just forgot to distribute the signs onto the tables. Edit, to add more information in relation to the restaurant's response: Based on my timestamp of photos from Kalvaria, my visit occurred on August 10, 2023. It was after a downpour, because we went to sit outside under the big umbrellas, and some of the benches were wet. I was sitting while my kids were playing, and I remember two more occupied tables (may have been more, but I noticed only two): At one, a couple was sitting and watching their kid, at another a family was playing cards. When the order came the glass was broken which one might hurt and it must be their responsibility for the customers safety. Then the most disgusting thing was that the spoon was so dirty which clearly its not a very clean place as even the table cloth was dirty and it was stained giving me the vibe that someone was on the table before us and it wasn’t clean. The last thing was that the toilets were full of cob webs and had some spiders too. I don’t recommend it at all !!!

The employees can't speak english, but that wasn't the biggest problem. We were there with a big group, and all of our meals were literally uneatable. Avoid this place.

Below average. We got garlic soup with a bowl with cheese and croutons with it for all four of us. Halusky were good but not excellent. Service - not good, but if you ate in Slovakia, it will feel average . All foods in the menu are offered with bouillon soup - no idea why. Would recommend only if price is a factor.

We had such a great dinner here. We didn’t have much expectations regarding the food and we were very pleasantly surprised, everything we ordered was really delicious.
