Castles
The Castle of Eger, originally built in the 13th century to defend against Turkish invasion, now houses a history museum. Visitors can explore the renovated dungeons, outer Esplanade, and armoury while imagining the historical figures who once walked its grounds. Nearby attractions include Geza Gardonyis former house turned museum and the city center with its Archbishops Palace and Basilica.
Famous Hungarian castle. It has been renovated and improved in the last few years. There is an extensive audio guide in multiple languages. You can learn a lot about the history and the famous battle against the ottomans. Every day at 15:52 there is a celebration of the 1552 battle with firing an ancient gun (see video). It is to honour the memory of the protectors of the castle.

The castle is so nice with memorable mark in the battle with Ottoman. The lady in the ticket office is super nice. Highly recommend to visit because of beautiful landscape and historical lesson about Hungary.
Hao P — Google review
The historical site was very engaging and fascinating , but we found it to be quite expensive. The family discount didn't help much, and we had to pay extra for some activities that weren't included in the ticket price.
MEYER M — Google review
Very nice place with great view on the town below. Lot of space, not many people. Nicely repaired, with many historical artefacts. Free, clean toilets. Reasonable entry fee. 2 hours to spend easy.
Jack L — Google review
Practicaly it is the heart of the town, the main attraction, a true and viral lesson of history. Make sure you have plenty of time to wonder around and explore every corner and read every information. There are a lot of exhibitions, interactiv panels for smaller kids to enjoy.

The Eger Castle is a very nice place to visit, the castle is very big and most part are in great condition. There is a lot of history there which the Hungarian people can be very proud of. I can recommended to very one who loves castles and their history.

Eger Castle was so beautiful and the scenery from the top was gorgeous. There is alot of history to be seen here and great photography opportunities. There were alot of signs in English which was useful. I will say if you are unable to walk up steps or at an incline it may be difficult for some with accessibility issues. There was a lady at the counter who was a little unfriendly which was a shame but the lady in the gift shop was nice.
Natalie L — Google review
It was a lovely place to explore. We spent a couple of hours there. The admission fee is quite high, though.

Its soaring 40-meter dome and seasonal organ concerts make it a must-see attraction. The basilica's imposing dome and towering spires dominate the city skyline, showcasing its Baroque design masterpiece. Inside, visitors are treated to beautiful paintings, elaborate altars, and towering columns that evoke awe and wonder.
So beautiful inside. Lucky to have the place to ourselves at about 5pm. It is free. Quite unique inside, in that it has a big space to separate the worshippers , i to what looks like 2 separate sections.
Christina L — Google review
Impressive inside and outside as well. It’s worth a visit.

Beautiful building inside and outside. Magnificent. The peace inside is remarkable. The colours, glasses, statues … I felt this place is so unique. I could spend the for hours! Free to visit. With support it is available for all disabilities. I’m not sure about toilets. I’m sure I a going to visit again once in the future! Don’t miss this out!

The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Apostle or more formally Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist, St. Michael and the Immaculate Conception also called Eger CathedralThe Basilica of St. John (Greek: Βασιλική του Αγίου Ιωάννη του Θεολόγου) was a basilica in Ephesus. It was constructed by Justinian I in the 6th century at a site where John the Apostle was said to have been buried. It was modeled after the now-demolished Church of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople.Although Haitian and French immigrants established the Congregation de Saint Jean-Baptiste in the late 1700s, the cornerstone for the present Cathedral of St. John the Baptist was laid on November 19, 1873 by the Right Reverend Ignatius Persico.

The Basilica in Eger is a stunning piece of architecture that boasts of a fascinating history and cultural significance. With its towering size and intricate details, it's a must-visit destination for anyone who loves art and history. Stepping inside its grand interiors is an experience that will definitely astonish you. The scale of the basilica is enough to inspire a sense of reverence and wonder. Visiting the Basilica in Eger is an enriching experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who appreciates the beauty of great architecture. Currently is being renovated.
Piotr A — Google review
The basilica itself is beautiful inside out. The visitor centre was a disappointment. I went there on a Sunday to visit the basilica and saw the board that there are tour guide services available everyday at 11.00. We decided to go back the next day. When we turned up in the visitor centre the person there said they don’t have that service that day as there are masses all day. They should at least put these out on the boards in advance if they know that as that’s what the visitor centre is for, to inform visitors.

Discover the hidden world beneath Eger, Hungary with a visit to the City Under The City. This unique attraction offers guided tours through the expansive cellar network located beneath the town square, featuring impressive volcanic stone and cement arches. Learn about the history of this subterranean space, originally built by Bishop Gyorgy Fenessy in the late 17th century as an alternative residence to Eger Castle.
It was beautiful to visit the tunnels under the city. I do wish that they also showed the wine cellars during the tour apart from the exhibition. The history tour was okay, the guide got a bit carried away with the details. I highly recommend buying advance tickets as the tours are separate for Hungarian and English.
Kalyani C — Google review
The Eger underground wine cellars are a must-see, but plan accordingly. English tours are limited, and while the Hungarian ones are informative, a 45-minute tour would be ideal as the 90-minute option is overly long. You'll journey through history and explore ancient wine storage, but dress warmly as the cellars are chilly. Unfortunately, English information is scarce, making a guided English tour essential.
Ashok G — Google review
As we are really interested in sightseeing the underground cellars we planned visiting the City under the city while being in Eger. Unfortunately the staff rudely informed us that there were no tours in English this day and even though we didn’t really care and wanted to see the cellars anyway this person basically wanted to get rid of us. Pity :((
Ola H — Google review
Interesting place with nice historical story behind, but the tour guide only talk in Hungarian and not English. At the end you can taste a little wine and bread!
Sam V — Google review
I can wholeheartedly recommend this to everyone who's interested in a little bit of history. It's light-hearted, hilarious and the tour guides are awesome!

The English language tour was at 1500, we were the only takers but it was February and the tour went ahead with just the two of us. Our guide a lovely young man had only been learning English for three years but he was informed, witty and eager to please. A thoroughly enjoyable and informative tour.

Dobó István Square, located in the heart of Eger, is a vibrant and lively destination that offers a mix of history, culture, and entertainment. Named after the renowned Hungarian warrior Istvan Dobo, who defended Eger against the Ottoman armies in 1552, this square is a bustling hub with outdoor cafes, a summer fountain, and the Baroque Church of Anthony of Padua. It's a popular social spot for locals and visitors alike.
A beautiful historic square, in summer there are various events, in winter you can find Christmas markets here. Large buildings and distinctive architecture underline the historical importance of the city of Eger, which even today is one of the important places to visit.

Nice places in the downtown of Eger. Plenty of restaurants around the square. On August 2021 we enjoyed Eger wine festival. I'm impressed, next day after festival Square were clear. No plastic cups, broken glasses, empty wine bottles. Well done Eger.

The Kethüda Minaret of Eger, also known as the Eger Minaret, is a historic tower that served as part of a mosque during the Ottoman Empire's rule. It stands as one of the oldest surviving minarets in Europe, dating back to the 17th century.
Tourist attraction one can’t miss. Rare occasion to climb the Minaret. But before you decide, make sure you’re able to handle it. 98 steps seem to be an easy task for a fit person but it is not the main challenge. Tower inside is very claustrophobic and steps are steep and narrow. And if you make if to the top, you must go down, which seems to be even more challenging. However, the panorama of the city, from the top. Amazing.
Peter F — Google review
A fascinating piece of history, many people gathered here on a weekend visit. The stairs are challenging to climb as they are very steep and slippery stone stairs and the tower has limited light and air sources.
Regina — Google review
I loved this climb, but if you are claustrophobic you might give it a pass. The views from the top are worth the 98 steps and the 1000Huf.
Kevin S — Google review
Mamma Mia! I thought that it could be fun to hike up to the top of this minaret. I had mixed feelings about as clearly you can see how narrow is them stairs leading to the top. We had about 10-15 minutes wait. The spiral stair are very steep (30 cm at least) and getting smaller and smaller the space as you nearing the top. Once you’re up, another scare stuff awaiting you the waist height handrails. I honestly almost got a heart attack. People was behind me so there’s no stop. I had a full walk around before started my journey down. Good fun, fantastic views on the top, however I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who has fear of heights and claustrophobic. As a bucket list it was a great fun, takes about 15 minutes for the whole experience.
R G — Google review
The only minaret in the world with a cross on top. According to legend, after the end of the Turkish occupation, the oppressed Hungarians wanted to tear down the 40-meter-high building, but even 400 oxen could not pull it down. After the failure, the building was left standing, but a cross was placed on the top above the star and crescent. 97 thick steps lead to its terrace, which can still be visited today. worth visiting if you are in town. Payment only in cash, 1000 Huf / person. The view is stunning from up there.
Alice V — Google review
Breathtaking view (and steps). You can see very well the town and the Keep. Makes you wonder how many have climbed these narrow spiral steps.
Vlad M — Google review
A nice place well worth a visit, but think twice before you climb the tower – the staircase is extremely narrow and may be claustrophobic or inaccessible for some visitors.
Krzysztof Z — Google review
An interesting, unusual sightseeing. The Minaret's staircase and the top deck are rather narrow, so it can make some feel slightly claustrophobic or even anxious. However, the views make up for this! An obligatory item on the 'what-to-see' list when visiting Eger.

The restaurant Főtér Cafe Restaurant is a great place to visit in Eger. The staff are friendly and the food is delicious, at least what was ordered. There is also an excellent atmosphere which makes it a great place to spend an evening.
Great food and big portions, wine is local and absolutely phenomenal. Perfect view on the dobó istván square. They add a tip to the receipt.

Amazing service, very welcoming with non-hungarian speakers. The waiter explained everything to us in detail and with patience. The dishes were amazing. I'm a big eater and I got very satisfied. The prices are fair, better than in Budapest. We ordered the whole pork roast with mushrooms and the pork shank with potatoes. Both were amazing. The marinade on the pork was on point, the crust on the potato very crispy and the inside soft. The sauces were also delicious, the right amount of fat, salt, acid. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Best food ever, great and fast service, the chicken brest was juice and delicious, the beef stew was like a piece of art. The tagliatele with mushrooms were cream and your mouth abunded with mushroom taste. We will definetly coe again

I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant! Apart from the restaurant being a bit overcrowded the service was excellent. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring a pleasant and comfortable visit. The atmosphere added to the overall enjoyment, providing a cozy and inviting setting. The food was truly delicious, with each dish crafted with care and flavorful ingredients. If you're in Eger, I highly recommend a visit to this restaurant.

We ordered tenderloin with sheep curd and tomato salad and grilled ewe-cheese with sweet potatoes. The pork was perfectly prepared. It had a crispy crust and the middle part of the flesh was crumbly. Ewe-cheese was also very tastty and the staff was also very nice 😀

Italian restaurant
Mamma Mia Pizza e Pasta Cucina Italiana is a cozy Italian restaurant located in the heart of Eger, Hungary. It has gained popularity for serving some of the best pizzas in the city, with generous portions and friendly prices. The restaurant offers a friendly vibe and charming decor, creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. While it may be small and fill up quickly, visitors can enjoy authentic Italian dishes made right in front of them at the open kitchen counter.
Unexpected find! Low-key great pizzeria, with some great pizzas. We loved it! The pastas also looked great, maybe we’ll try next time we’re in town. My son, because this is his fixation now, timed the service 🙂 12 minutes with all tables full, fairly impressive.
Bartis E — Google review
We ordered two pizzas: Diavola and Estate. Both were flavourful, not overbaked, ingredients used tasted well and weren't cheap. Mamma Mia is definitely NOT a tourist trap. Pizzas are reasonably priced and the portions are large enough to feed an adult. The restaurant has more than three pages of pizzas to choose from in the menu. Mamma Mia offers pastas and desserts, too.
Michał W — Google review
We got the tuna pizza and carbonara pasta. They were both delicious. We were so full but couldnt stop eating still. The service was very good, the waitress was probably the best we've had in all of Hungary.
May T — Google review
Oh, Momma! We waited outside for close to 1 1/4 hours for our meal! The delivery guy made 3 trips during that time. My wife went inside twice to inquire about the status of our order. We weren’t the only ones losing patience! Three young ladies sat at the adjacent table and they had been there when we arrived and they too hadn’t gotten their food. Due to my wife approaching the pretty blonde waitress we were getting ready to leave we got our food before them! To add insult to injury my pizza’s bottom was burnt and it wasn’t anything great. On the other hand my wife’s salmon salad was outstanding according to her. So it seems that this restaurant is more into pizza home delivery than eating in. My wife recommended due to the delicious salad she had we try them again but forget the pizza and have pasta and salad next time.

If you cant find any stunning restaurants in city center like i could not, go here. but you say "Why pizza in Eger?" Right. somehow this place ended up my favorite Italian restaurant in Hungary 😂 their coffee is also excellent and i think best espresso in Eger. Plus, price is friendly too. btw this is the first restaurant for me in Hungary, which i actually think is GOOD 😎

Really good! Friendly vibe, decoration really lifts the place, and the food is brilliant in great portions! They've no dedicated kitchen, meals are made right in front of you in the "counter" area, so no room for cheating/shortcuts. Will visit again!

The restaurant 1552 Étterem offers a fantastic and delicious gastronomic experience. The dishes are well prepared and the service is great. The only downside might be the temporary lack of drink selection.
Nice atmosphere and located within the Eger castle. Our main dishes were very tasty and so was the dessert. The service was friendly and correct and the price lvl is very much okay too.

Yo, that pork dish you made was straight-up fire! Juicy, tender, and packed with flavor—those spices hit all the right spots. The way it was cooked, it practically melted in my mouth. You nailed the balance, not too heavy but still super satisfying. Gotta say, it’s one of the best I’ve had in a minute. Keep slinging those culinary vibes, chef!
Michael M — Google review
Amazing! We over heard other tourists sitting nearby about an excellent restaurant in the citadel and we’re glad we discovered it! The ambiance is exquisite. Photos don’t do it justice. The decor along with the choice of music is both enticing and relaxing. We were fortunate that we, with the exception of 3 ladies sitting in a corner, were the only ones there. We were warmly greeted and seated by a window as requested. The menu has something for every palate. Not only were the portions satisfying but the quality of our meal was outstanding in both presentation and flavour. The sour cherry beer is a must have. Dining here was a memorable experience indeed. The only drawback is having to pay the entrance fee to the castle each time you go there even if you don’t want to visit the grounds. Which by the way are mostly closed for renovations. So it’s a 7500 ft for two surcharge to the cost of the meal. But with that said, we strongly recommend pushing pass this and indulge yourself to eat at what we think is Eger’s best place to dine. This restaurant accentuates and is infused with the charm of Eger.
NYPTBLUE O — Google review
We had pork knuckle and turkish-hungarian taster. As a starter, it was a huge dish for one person. The knuckle was soft and delicious. The prices are the same as outside lf the castle, very much worth it. I’d recommend it!

The most outstanding gastronomic experience for a while. We tried Hortobágy pancakes as appetizer, duck-duo and game meat stew as main dish and also some dessert. Everything was delicious and the service was also fine despite of the temporary shortage of drink selection.

Beautiful location in the castle on the hill…. Great views of the city from castle hill. Good was excellent and service outstanding! The Father’s chicken stew and watermelon soup ( the soup was a special) were both outstanding! Only my wife’s brownie was disappointing. Prices reasonable. ….A bit of a disaster….! We ordered ‘Lobster’ salad and mixed pickles to share as a starter, and for mains we both ordered fillet tenderloin beef, 1 medium and 1 medium rare. First of all, in a not particularly busy restaurant we waited 45mins for our food to come, and when it did come, our steak mains came out with the starter, so we had to rush through the salad, as to not eat cold meat 🥩 Next; the Lobster turned out to be prawns 🤣(explained as a translation error), and the mixed pickles never arrived. As can be seen in the pics, both steaks came medium-well to well. I mean; medium rare should be mostly pink 😔 but the beef was pretty good, tasted ok 👌 The bill came to €84 inc drinks. When i went inside to pay, the cashier refused to give me the printed itemised bill, he said that was for him, and he couldn’t print another so he made a useless receipt with no details, just lines of ‘SV%’ and a price for each line, so I still don’t know if I paid for the pickles or not! 😅 The young waiter that served us was nice, and spoke good english. I wouldn’t go back 👍

Do you want a tourist trap? This is your place. Soups served in tea cups (200ml) and second course in very small portions. Soup full of artificial food enhancers (Vegeta,Knorr, Maggi etc.) One of the rare ocassions I was still hungry after eating a full menu at the restaurant. Service charge added by default. Nowhere near the usual restaurant experience in Hungary. Pro tip: you won't see too many locals eating there.

When I was in Eger I visited that place twice. For me it was good because it serves Hungarian dishes. For me staff is very good and helpful. Dishes are very tasty also.

Good location and quite good prices but rather average food. Goulash soup so watered down it tasted mostly of salt. Chicken paprikas was quite ok. You can try, but don't expect revelations.

The Valley of the Beautiful Woman, also known as Szepasszonyvolgy, is a charming and picturesque small valley located in one of the country's top wine regions. It is nestled within the Bermuda Triangle of Matra-Eger-Bukk and boasts a wide range of vineyards that contribute to its rich winemaking tradition. The area is steeped in history, with Turkish memories, Baroque splendor, and Hungarian gulags adding to its allure.
48 different cellars to see. Nice walking area and lots of food options for all. Be sure to pace your self. The cellars will be happy to serve you many types of wine. Cellar 2 and 19 were the best that we saw. The location is just great to walk around. We had a ton of fun and the history behind it all is worth understanding before you go.

The location is great, outskirts of Eger - great place for a n after- sightseeing trip. Easy access by car, if you visit there on time you can find car parks. Restaurants, souvenir shops all over and of course at least 48 (I counted 48) private wine cellars. Different makers, different strength and quality. For some reason most of the places’ language is Polish. The only 3 starts (only - it is a massive average rates) are gorge communications in each wineries, the offers, the interior design and of course some extra activities, too. Some places had live music - folklore. Great place to hang out with mates, stag,- and hen parties. Little park facing the wineries what is great for kids.

Must visit if you are in Eger and like wines. There are many cellars to visit, indoor & outdoor areas, you can try different local wines (wide collection), have some snacks, buy wine home with good prices, eat at restaurants, listen some live music etc. About 25min by foot from main square, also possible to take shuttles there, taxi about 2000-3500 forints (about 5-8,50€) depends which part of city we took it or in the night back home.
Micciz — Google review
I wish I enjoyed wine but I don’t. I tried some wine but meh for me. If you like to do wine tasting then this will be great for you. No one we met was doing a forceful in your face selling job so no pressure. Go when you have lots of energy because there are Many places to sample wines. There are restaurants there too. Was it touristy? Yes
Arye B — Google review
Not far from Eger town - an easy 20 minute walk, and you arrive to this area with so many wine cellars. They don’t offer traditional tastings, but all cellars instead sell wine by the 100ml glass, for around 500HUF, so it is very affordable and great to wander, tasting whatever wines sound good. Almost all of the wine is produced in the nearby region, and is really high quality (even with such a low price!) A really nice place to visit for an afternoon.
Sara H — Google review
You must visit it, you can try a lot of different taste vine, and you can buy it aswell. From Eger you can travel there with a small train
Safrany E — Google review
I saw complaints of locals that: - "They don't sell glasses of wine." Now they do. Your complaints worked apparently. - "This is a tourist trap for foreigners." There are quite a few of them, but most of clients speak Hungarian. - "It's so expensive." Yes and no. It's 50% more expensive than an average wine bar where average Hungarians go on a regular basis, but said places are so stupidly cheap, that I still wouldn't call it expensive. Hungarians drink wine like beer, so imagine your pint going from $3 to $5, because your local bar looks now like high key restaurant. - "There are too many people there." Opening hours beg to differ. To spend there whole day you need to start in one place that opens early and move to another that's open until late evening. And if you disagree, go and buy one of cellars with "elado" written on it and make a fortune on endless torrent of Poles brought here by one bus after another. "Gentrification" is a fashionable word these days and many want to join this movement, but the fact is that that all people working in Szépasszonyvölgy was wonderful and very professional for me.

The Astronomical Museum and Camera Obscura is a fascinating attraction located within the university building in Eger. Visitors can explore an array of astronomical instruments, including solar clocks and old telescopes. The highlight is the Camera Obscura, installed in 1779 by astronomer Miksa Hell, making it the oldest working equipment of its kind in the world. Climbing to the top of the tower offers breathtaking views and a peek at this historical marvel.
The camera obscura is worth climbing nine flights of stairs, but works best on a bright sunny day. Note that the demonstration occurs on the half hour, but you can kill time enjoying the observation deck. Buy the camera obscura ticket only if you want to skip the museum.

One star is to much, It's like an 80's failed science fair. Most of the display is out of order or just poorly planned. NOT recommended in the summer!!! No AC or fan. Very Very HOT!!! can't say if the ticket was worth it...

You should definitely visit the place if you like physics experiments. The interactive room is fun and immersive for adults and children.
Evgeniy B — Google review
We visited the museum in June and were very impressed by the dedication and expertise of the guides – who explained everything in English for us. The tower is a fairly magical place. My favorite was the camera obscura, but just seeing the astronomical exhibition or the Foucault pendulum would have made the visit worthwhile. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to experience everything.
Brad H — Google review
The astronomical exhibition has some very old telescopes. But the real attraction is the camera obscura at top of the tower. Unfortunately the people in the museum bonoy talks in Hungarian, but there are some written guides for foreign visitors. The view from the top terrace is really nice.

Fantastic place, you feel the history while walking in the building. kind hosts, and beautiful view of Eger.

A must have experience. The building is also home to the local university and it is beautiful. There are multiple exhibitions with an interactive physics demonstration, an optical museum and an astronomical museum. The astronomical museum was especially interesting and there were old telescopes. The camera obscura is found az the top of the tower and was a great experience. The view is amazing from the top of the building. The demonstrations were all in Hungarian.
Gergely M — Google review
I visited the museum with my elder parents earlier today. Although we were told that the presentation of the camera obscura was in English, we went all the way up to the 9th floor to be told that we were not enough in number to have a few things explained to us in English. This was the first rude experience that we have had visiting Hungary so far. At least, when we complained on our way down to the reception, we were given our money back.

Agria Park Shopping Center, located in Eger, is a popular shopping destination offering a wide range of stores and architectural attractions. Opened in 2008, the complex houses renowned brand outlets, a multiplex movie theatre, fitness center, plaza library and more within its air-conditioned interior. The former tobacco factory site also features the preserved Water Tower of Royal Tobacco Factory and a themed fountain in the courtyard.
This mall is located close to the old town area with the main sights, basilica and the castle of Eger. The mall is the main shopping center that has some affordable brand names but don't expect exclusive luxury items. Food court is limited but there are some good confectioneries and coffee shop options.

A fantastic museum created and hosted by enthusiasts who've been gathering artifacts related to The Beatles for 45 years. It's awesome and interesting for both fans as well as newbies who only know a few songs. The museum allows all visitors to follow The Beatles' path from the very beginning. With more than two thousand artifacts, some being interactive, this is one of the most incredible places I've seen. Definitely a must-see when visiting Eger!

Butykos Kisvendéglő is a restaurant that has received positive feedback from customers. The food, particularly the palacinka with meat and gulash, is said to be delicious and worth returning for. The limonades are refreshing, especially when enjoyed outside while waiting for the meal. Even during busy times, the wait for food was not too long. It is located in Szepasszonyvolgy and offers good wines alongside their tasty dishes.
Wonderful experience and the staff were very kind. The selection of food is amazing and very filling for what it's worth, so choosing our dishes was difficult even in retrospect. Highly recommend having a soup and a main dish at least!

Set in the picturesque heart of a vineyard valley, this charming eatery offers an authentic taste of traditional Hungarian cuisine. The service was both polite and prompt, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. The dishes were well-crafted, showcasing the rich flavors of the region. While the prices are slightly above average, the quality of the food and the stunning location provide excellent value. Highly recommended for those looking to savor genuine Hungarian dishes in a beautiful setting!

We came here for the good ratings, but were majorly disappointed and will never return. The food was extremely salty, and also poor quality. I had the catfish stew, but it had a rather peculiar overly intense taste that indicated it was something else, much cheaper and lesser quality. And to top it all up, sadly when I asked whether the service was included , they said no, although it was. So we ended up having to pay the tip twice. There are a lot of great places around, I do not recommend this one at all.
Bernadett K — Google review
Popularity of this restaurant is probably because it's close to vinary. A lot of people, drunk people, aside, not having high expectations. - Food - Food was at its best - medium. Smth close to Goulash was ok, but nothing special. But fried mushrooms was defintely unfrozen just before being prepared, nothing stresh. They were serve with mediocre cheese inside Restaurant was almost empty, but we waited for our dishes for about 30 minutes. - Service - Well, the waiters was kind to us, but that's not the case. The was a drunk man inside, sleeping on the table. They had no problem with that, they were laughing to him. When he finally arised, while he was walking to the toilet, they started recording him, and then they showed this video to other stuff. They were also eating smth during service with licking fingers, same fingers they were servicing. Yeah.
Paweł M — Google review
Very good restaurant with reasonable prices. It doesn't add extra service fees unlike the other restaurants in the Szépasszony-völgy. Portions are large enough to feed an adult, ingredients used are high quality and there's a wide range of meals to choose from, including traditional Hungarian cuisine. Staff is friendly and helpful. In my opinion, Butykos Kisvendégiö is the best restaurant in the Szépasszony-völgy!
Michał W — Google review
Food was pretty ok, but piece of advice if I may: 1. If meat boils, like 100C boils, its tissue is ripped by water inside being boiled. Buy some slow cooker or put it in the oven for low temp long time. 2. Microwave is fine, but please, reduce the power and give it more time.

Piggy Fanny Restaurant & Cafe is a decent establishment that offers a variety of dishes, including the Germknodel dessert. Although it may not be the best in town, it is good enough considering Hungarian cuisine is not their specialty. The staff are friendly and the prices are affordable, although the interior has a canteen-like atmosphere. The food is delicious and portion sizes are generous, making it highly recommended for those looking for tasty meals.
We spent 5 days in Eger, and from the first day till the last we went there for lunch and dinner. The food was always delicious and they had so many choices. The price was good and the portions were big. We found a new favourite dessert there, gőzgombóc. Unbelievably yummy. We will definitely come back here when we visit Eger again.

Good food az affordable prices. Big portions as well. Try the steamed dumplings! (Gőzgombóc) Be warned though: it's the size of a main course. As a dessert, you could easily split it within a typical family.

I tried stuffed cabbage here since I was keen on that however it was not the best I have ever tried. But their service was nice and they are really helpful since I speak in Hungarian. We tried their cakes as well and they were amazing. The price for foods anyway is really affordable, even for cakes, it was quite cheap. Overall nice place to sit down and eat, hope they can improve their stuffed cabbage.

Really great to get such a good value for money meal that filled the whole family in the centre of Eger . For foreigners like me the process was confusing at first but you simply: - line up - identify the option you want while waiting. It is not mix and match like we are use to at home. There is a price per plate determined by the option you choose. - don’t worry about price. Cheaper than anywhere else you are likely to eat.

The food is very good and close to homecooked-like and the prices are low, this way you leave the restaurant very satisfied. Not necessarily fancy, but that's the way I like it, generous amount of nutricious food for cheap. The staff is very kind and we were able to order in English.

Szmrecsányi Lajos Kert, a spacious park in Eger known as the Archbishops Garden, was initially a hunting area for bishops but has been open to the public for over a century. Spread across 12 hectares, it features a central fountain, tree-lined paths, and a playground. Visitors can also explore remnants of the previous French and English gardens, including fountains and a man-made lake crossed by a stone bridge.
This chestnut alley must look breathtaking in Spring.

Best bit of Eger for families. Large playground in a middle of a small forest. The central of the town is 10mins walk. On west side of the park there is a small ice cream place they sell a very good ice cream. Large free parking place just opposite the road. Kids just love that place..... But there is few down side as well. The park is dirty.Full of rubish empty bottles paper and plastic bags. Probably during nights youngsters using the park as a party place so they leaving a lot of sh@t behind.....shame The playgrounds toys just in a very bad condition. One of the slide's stairs just braking down. Swings are very used. I sure is'cos the park is very busy every day but the place just look like it has no owner.... Thas it belong to the town of Eger? I don't know....but is a shame!!

Very nice infrastructure, couple of pools with water with different temperature. Nice for kids and adults. Nice gastronomy and all.

Crowdy and dirty. The showers next to the pools didn't work. The tiles were coming away in some places.

Gorgeous strand with botanical trees in a lovely nature.
BlanShina B — Google review
With their newly built slides and upgraded facilities this aquapark is a modern, nice place, we had a lot of fun here. It is family friendly, there were a lot of children, but the park was large enough for all. The hot water soaking pools were a blessing. Make sure you look around before buying food, although they are all cheap, some of the food outlets are much better than others.
Judit M — Google review
Like outdoor pools? Well you can't go wrong here. It manages to cater for three distinct groups well. 'Serious' swimmers, who want to get some lengths in. Families, with space for games with the children and slides. And, those who want a 'Spa-like' experience (for the full experience I recommend going to the excellent Turkish Baths next door which include entry to the outdoor facilities). For adults, don't worry, the space is big enough for the raucous activities of children to be away from the more relaxed pools.
Anthony C — Google review
Spent two days here with the family - tis a great place to go, lots of warm pools great price - couple of places to eat on site too or take a picnic - it will be worth it, as a good day can be spent here. Only negative is that been here two years on the trot and central feature in kids pool is still closed?
Pine R — Google review
Great place to splash in the water in the middle of Eger. No 5 stars because there is no restrictions on the number of visitors, so summer and spring weekends are too crowded, making the experience not as perfect as it could be.

Turkish Bath

When in Eger, a visit to the Turkish Bathhouse is a must for those interested in immersing themselves in the city's rich history. This relic from the Ottoman era offers a glimpse into the lavishness and architectural brilliance of Turkish design. The Torok Furdo, built at the beginning of the 17th century, is the only surviving bathhouse from that period and has been renovated while still maintaining its original Turkish-style pools.
Great płace to visit, particularly in winter. 6 pools with different water temperatures plus 4 saunas. Dry sauna had mint essential oil scent and wet sauna had lavender. Quite nice. For the price you pay, you get 2.5 hours. It is more than enough to experience the benefits of this place.
Peter F — Google review
I visited this place on Tuesday. Inside you will have two finish sauna wit different temperature, infra sauna, steam sauna. One big thermal water bath and five smaller baths with different water temperature. Your ticket for 2 and half hour. Good place to relax.
Juri M — Google review
Even better than thermal baths nearby. There are six pools (two of them were hot, around 34-36°C, the rest were colder - about 30°C). The pools are rather medium-sized, but the views completely make up for it. There are also three saunas inside the building, but they were disappointing (aroma sauna had no aroma whatsoever and the wet sauna was stinky). Although there is not much to do there (2 hours is absolutely enough since there are no jet douches or anything), the place is not crowded nor too loud. Bathrooms, showers and dressing rooms could use some renovations though
Jakub P — Google review
Nice Turkish bath, however a swimming suit drier would be nice to have.
Cloud R — Google review
Great place to relax in the morning. There's the main big pool with 3 smaller tubs that have varying temperatures to its left. I really enjoyed the sauna and steam room however. As the hottest pool seemed to be only 36 +-2C Was funny reading the English description and it saying something among the lines of radioactive water.
POtato C — Google review
A very nice spa. I visited it in the evening during the week and there weren't many people there. No crowds anywhere and everything was quite spacious. It was a very pleasant visit, and the price was reasonable too.
Lukáš U — Google review
Very nice place, the inside is very nice, the service is friendly, I admit that the water was actually warm in only one pool, in the rest it was just lukewarm and after some time it seemed even cool, I suspect that it was due to saving expensive electricity, because some lights were also turned off, which in my opinion gave a nice dark atmosphere. The price is so low that you can't complain :)
Kamila D — Google review
A lovely experience on a Saturday morning. The dressing rooms area is rather small but in the morning it was not busy at all. Your basic entry comes in a very good price and entitles you to 2.5 hours for the pools and the various sauna chambers. Visiting the external pools is included in the price. I would definitely return.

Architectural Buildings
The Eger Archiepiscopal Palace Turistical and Visitor Centre is a remarkable 18th-century building that houses religious artwork, decorative objects, and a beautifully adorned chapel. A friendly lady provided informative explanations in English about the cellar tours, which are only available with a guide in Hungarian. However, she also provided written material for visitors to peruse at their leisure. Upstairs, visitors can explore the palace independently for a small fee and even take photographs.
The small coffee shop is excellent. You don't need to pay to go in there. Professional staff. Excellent coffee and hot chocolate at very good prices for Eger. A good selection of cakes. Very pleasant place. Good, clean toilets. Disabled access is OK.
Damian M — Google review
Very nice and enthusiastic lady explained very well in English that for visiting cellars only a guided tour is possible in Hungarian, but she had a written explanation to take a long. Upstairs was also the palace and there you could walk atoms on yourself with a small fee for taking photos. Well it's worth it if you are in Eger. It's the biggest underground location in the area.

Like all the places of interest in Eger, very well organised. OMG the Bishops had some fabulous palaces. Great to see all the artefacts displayed so well. Enjoyed the place for a couple of hours and then had coffee in their cafe.
Robert K — Google review
Cool experience, though a guided tour is a must as there is very little signage throughout the building. We went with a group and had a great guide though, I truly recommend visiting here!
Wessel D — Google review
A must see when you are in Eger and have interest for historic sites. This still active bishop's palace has a great collection a proper English audio tour and is very well maintained. The very 'non-commercial' attitude is refreshing. The museum café under the arches serves very affordable good espresso.

Sushi restaurant
The noodles at Mr. Sushi are delicious, but I wouldn't suggest trying the fried rice, miso soup, or tom yum soup. The service was satisfactory overall, although there were some mistakes made with part of the order. This sushi restaurant is highly recommended and receives high praise from customers. It offers a perfect dining experience that shouldn't be missed.
We visited for lunch on a Sunday with a group of five. We were lucky to get a table as the place is quite small and it was busy, a reservation is recommended. We tasted a wide variety of starters and had tonkatsu that we liked a lot. We would return!
Máté M — Google review
Never had to write a review before but here we go… I felt very unwelcomed as I can’t speak Hungarian and the waitress seemed to be rather not too impressed by it… the service was probably the worst I’ve ever experienced in my life. A family of 4 arrived 10 minutes after me and my partner did, and they got their food first and finished eating way before I got my food. (the place was not packed at all). I probably could’ve looked up a tutorial on YouTube on how to make the burger I ordered, went into the kitchen and cooked it myself and finished eating it before they could’ve served me my food. I was waiting approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes and had to ask if they forgot about me, and was told “just a few minutes”. It’s beyond me how a place could hire a waitress that seems to always be in a bad mood, treating customers poorly, and not being able to speak English. In Germany we call this a Saftladen. If you’re speaking English, don’t even bother communicating with the woman wearing glasses it’s absolutely not worth it. Would’ve rather taken a train to Austria and eaten there where people give u proper service.

Delicious food and amazing atmosphere. The mouse of white chocolate is incredible. I recommend it. Thank you so much, Chef, and all staff.

I ordered a soup and a sushi. It did not got delivered for 2 hours and i called them multiple times.Every time they told me that it is going to be delivered in 10 minutes. And they did not speak proper english they just cut it short. At the end of 2 and a half hours, they said the delivery guy left the food at some other apartment door and they can’t help me. I want out looking for my delivery but i could not find it.When i called them back, they never picked up.
Ecem T — Google review
Visited this restaurant thrice, so far, and loved I loved it. When in Eger, one simply cannot miss out this 'Mr Sushi'.
Rahul J — Google review
I have ordered two Sushi rolls and a soup for pick up for about 35€. The soup they gave me was ice cold and served in a sealed soda cup??? I mean obviously I wasn’t from here so the chances I was staying in a hotel with no access to a microwave were pretty high and yet they decided to give me an ice cold soup without even mentioning that to me when I was picking up my food. That’s terrible customer service. Also the spicy tuna roll ist way too spicy, most of it is inedible. And I do eat very spicy and have a high pain tolerance. The little pieces of tuna are covered in some sort of chilli paste and some pieces more than the others so half of it was edible with my mouth burning but it was not enjoyable anymore. Nobody can tell me that they enjoy this level of spicy. Also, a warning on the menu would have been nice that this is the spicy tuna roll from hell, not a normal one. The other sushi roll was good. I am mainly disappointed about the soup, the tuna roll was just the cherry on top.
Laura J — Google review
The food was OK, we took the ramen. The broth was bit blend, but the pork was formidable. The pork was full of flavor and very tender. But you have to wait pretty long for the food.
Betoye D — Google review
Wow - simply the worst sushi ever! I’d have done better to buy it at the Lidl (which is also terrible). The sushi for 2 is enough for 1 and almost everything was smothered in sauce. The ‘sült mister tekercs’ is awful as the whole thing is warm including the raw fish inside. Avoid! The photos speak for themselves

Trifla Ivó és Konyha offers generous portions of delicious food at reasonable prices, making it a pleasant surprise for visitors. The old-fashioned eatery exudes charm with its low-key atmosphere and attentive service from the professional staff. While some patrons noted issues with the drinks, the menu features indulgent Hungarian cuisine, including crispy pork knuckles and flavorful beef tripe with mushroom sauce.
Great food and generous portions. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Friend recommended this restaurant and we weren't dissapointed! Great location in the centre of the city, perfect friendly and funny service and food was just great. We had bruschetta with bone marrow paté, deer perkelt, tripe stew, beef with porcini souca and pork knee, all cooked to perfection and portions were huge. Good variety of palinka too, overall we had great time and would come back!

Absolutely the best place we dined in Hungary. We travelled from Australia and spent two weeks eating out breakfast, lunch dinner from Sopron to Tihany to Budapest (and Eger, of course). The food was by far the best at Trifla; a month later we are still talking about it. Highly recommended. We only wish we could eat through the entire menu. May be one day...

Their menu choices will let you indulge in the rich Hungarian cuisine! Large portions at reasonable prices. Wonderful ambiance in the beautiful walking street. Immaculate surroundings! Received very friendly service. Indoor and outdoor dining is available.

Fred Flintstone size portions! See photo! Pictures don’t lie! The food was tasty and presented well. Also priced right with something for all palates. Very pleasant surprise! The atmosphere was low key old fashioned eatery but very charming. The young waiter (with glasses) was professional and attentive to all patrons. Only gave lower rating due to flat Coke used in Cuba Libre and bottle of mineral water was also flat also. New menus are needed. The ones provided were in bad shape and falling apart. Not exactly the best impression. Otherwise all was fine. Yes, we recommend eating here and plan to do so again in the future.

We came twice again this year and it was great. Food is delicious, but Trifla please bring the half duck in oranges back, or at least any duck in oranges :)
Remigiusz Ł — Google review
I did not have huge expectations coming here because always when I see one restaurant's huge menu with 100 positions including pizza, seafood, pastas and all local things (i mean absolute mix of everything) I expect it to be a typical tourist restaurant with average food. Prices were average, service was suprisingly fast. Advantage of places like this are huge plates so you will never leave hungry. All in all, nothing special but satysfying.

We visited for dinner on a Friday with a reservation. The place got packed quite quickly. In spite of this we got our orders on a timely manner. We were satisfied with the starter bruschetta and snails. The beef cheek was marvelous, simply a must. The red wine recommended by the waiter was much of my liking. We liked the chicken kiev, the crumbs was especially good. The pannacotta was ok. This is an outstanding place, we would return any time.

The restaurant Excalibur Középkori Lovagi Étterem is a great place to eat in Eger. The wooden plates and clay cups are beautiful, and the service is wonderful. The food is delicious, but it may feel a little like a lower class restaurant due to the fact that they serve meats. Overall, this place is definitely worth checking out if you're visiting Eger!
Update: a year later this place is still fantastic! Middle ages vibes and mood with tasty food and great service. There are candles on the tables. Everything was clean and neat. The gladiator feast was so big we could not eat it. They packed it for us.
Tamas M — Google review
The food was great and the waiting staff were very polite. Only a 4 because the atmosphere was a little empty and there were too many fruit flies around our table. I imagine atmosphere would be much better during season so would still still recommend this place.
Gregory F — Google review
Food was good, the service was fun, good atmosphere. While I felt bad for the waiters having to dress up like tavern workers, it was funny to watch them walk around with cardboard? Swords. I can't say the food was amazing, but it was definitely somewhat tasty. Have a drink, some soup, a main and a dessert. Somewhat big portions and too much potato. But a good experience nevertheless. 7.2/10

Lovely place and amazing food. With a really fun atmosphere. Irish folk music playing and everything is dedicated to the theme. The only detractor is there wasn't any English on the menu (though there may have been one I didn't ask as I was with Hungarians) and I'm not sure the wait staff spoke English. As is their right of course but if you're a tourist it may be a consideration.

Nestled in the charming city of Eger, Macok Bistro stands out as a must-visit dining destination that beautifully marries modern Hungarian cuisine with European influences. This vibrant and elegant bistro offers an inviting atmosphere where guests can indulge in upscale comfort food, such as confit duck leg paired with cabbage-flavored pasta and risotto enriched with porcini mushrooms. The menu also features delightful options like roasted duck breast and lamb burgers, all crafted from high-quality ingredients and presented with flair.
A full five star experience in Macok Bistro 👌🏼 The service was attentive, prompt and kind. We first wanted to sit outside but as it was getting chillier and more windy, they kindly let us move inside, and made a new table for us there. The food was amazing! We were a party of five and we all took the 4 course menu. We had duck liver brulee, fish and cucumber, a choice of beef or duck, and a choice of cheese or chocolate cake. Everything was so good! They were all my favorite dishes. And a special shout out for the cheese selection. The best cheese selection dish I've ever had. It was an actual sweet dessert, but still fresh and not overly sweet. We will definitely be back whenever visiting Eger!
Snowbird . — Google review
Good service and atmosphere. Food was partially my fault for ordering but also seemed a bit lacking 😕. I ordered the bistro meat plate, which was just your average Spar refrigerator meat selection. The duck liver or pate? Was a bit too salty for my liking. Wish it had more pickles or even some cheese to go with the soft baguette slices. The rabbit in my opinion was dreadful, it somehow felt like I was eating American canned chicken breast. It certainly didn't have the rabbit flavor and texture I had while in Prague, U.S.A or even St. Petersburg. The fried potato and duck liver balls were tasty. Dessert was definitely the highlight with the cottage cheese dumplings being sweet and savory highly recommended. 5/10

Couldn't find any fault for this restaurant. Worth the visit. Well deserved Michelin status. The food was well-cooked, presented and tasted better. The portion were also generous. I thought the food in Budapest was good, This was better.

The restaurant is really a hidden gem of Eger. If u are looking for a high quality meal - this is your place. Interior is cozy, modern and welcoming. Menu is versatile. The food was very good with sophisticated plating, however I wouldn’t say it was a wow for me. I ordered venison and it was really lacking seasoning. Duck breast was good, nice crust on the skin and medium in the middle. It would score 4.5 from. However service have let the place down a bit. The waiter that was serving us looked like our arrival have shuttered his peace :) he perked up a bit towards the end, but still

Great food, nice service, very cute patio with a great atmosphere. We were super happy with our food, they were perfectly balanced in flavor, fresh and very nicely plated. I have known the place forever, but this was the first time we managed to visit it. I’m sure that not the last one. 😊
Judit W — Google review
We booked a table for lunch and enjoyed a great meal that included an appetizer, soup, two main dishes, two desserts, and a few glasses of wine. The food was excellent, and the flavors were impressive. However, our experience was marred by a few notable issues. The service was quite slow, which was surprising given that the restaurant wasn't busy and it's a bistro where you'd expect a quicker pace. We also encountered a cracked glass and a rotten grape, which was a disappointment. Overall, while the food was great, the service and a lack of attention to detail kept our experience from being truly exceptional.
Alex G — Google review
The restaurant is very quaint and lovely. The food is amazing. We had Lunch and dinner here. The lunch service was ok, our server was inattentive and almost unpleasant at times. He needs to be better trained for customer service. Our dinner service was a very friendly and super helpful woman. She was knowledgeable about GF issues she was able to help with a menu selection. The food is delicious and very nicely presented. Definitely recommend if you love good food.

De La Motte Castle Noszvaj is a charming Baroque manor house dating back to the 18th century. Despite being damaged during World War II and subsequently abandoned, it has undergone extensive renovations and now operates as a museum open to the public. The castle features five furnished rooms with age-appropriate furniture and stunning Rococo frescos adorning the walls.
Built in the late 18th century and only 5 rooms can be visited in the main wing on the first floor facing the garden. The entrance on the ground floor is very nice with its wall paintings. You definitely must drop in if you happen to be in Noszvaj!

Yesterday, we went for a guided tour. 3500huf/head. The tour started with 30 mins delay. They gave us a 10% discount to the hotel's restaurant. The prices in the restaurant are expensive, even with 10% don't reach the normal level. After paying that price for the ticket I didn't feel I wanted to leave more money there. I don't like those compensation when they want more money out of your pocket. It's not compensation, it's an insult. I felt a bit fed up. I assume people would have appreciated a cheaper ticket instead of a 10% discount. The 2 lady was doing a good job but if you pay the cheaper ticket (not guided tour) and you walk around them, you hear the same.
Anita N — Google review
It was closed to public eventhough the lights were on in the main hall and there were cars parked in front. According to the timings it was supposed to be open. Castle has seen much better days. It looks like a ruin rom the outside.

Loved it. The opening hours are not updated on their website (opening at 11:00 instead of 10:30). The printed description what they gave me at the beginning of the tour is not updated (e.g. the printed paper is referring to a hunting chamber full with weapons and hunting trophies and in the reality the chamber is full with paintings of young arristocrats of the past).

Nice small castle. Definitely worth to visit. Cash only (at least when we were there).
Viktória K — Google review
The De la Motte castle in Noszvaj was built in the late Baroque, plaited style at the end of the 18th century. Its special interest lies in its 5 rooms with intact rococo wall paintings, original shutters, period stoves and chandeliers. The castle is surrounded by a 25-acre park with a stone wall. Entry through the hotel next to it. Recepcionist was not friendly.
Bernadette A — Google review
It is not worth the price of admission. There are 4 small rooms upstairs, 1 bigger room and 2 very small rooms downstairs .All the pictures are on the website, there is NOTHING more to see. The tour is like 5 minutes at best. The garden is just a park without any flowers or water features. Your city park probably looks better. I stayed at the horrible hotel next door, so I've got a free ticket, but if I had to pay separately for this, I would have gotten a nervous breakdown.
George A — Google review
Lovely small castle with a garden full of huge, old trees. Every visitor receives a paper based, detailed description about every hall and room of the small castle, including the staircase, so we can get a lot of historical and architectural facts about the castle. Most of the decorations are nicely renovated wall paintings, frescos, but few furniture is also available in each and every room. In the garden some specific, old trees are marked with little information tables. Within 1 hour both the castle and the garden can be visited comfortably.

Wineries & Vineyards
Bolyki Pincészet and Vineyards is situated in the heart of Eger, within Bolyki Valley. The winery was established on the grounds of an abandoned stone quarry in 1998 and has since been transformed into a unique winery and event venue by Janos Bolyki, a first-generation winemaker. Visitors have praised the comfortable cave-like structure of the winery, providing respite from hot weather.
I made a last minute booking for a tasting at the end of November 2024. They were super accommodating and I really enjoyed getting a 1:1 experience while tasting 6 different wines. I was able to tour the event spaces and the fermentation room. I highly recommend coming here for a few hours to relax and enjoy some local wines.
Chris B — Google review
Went for a tasting & tour, and contacted the place the day before to ensure that happens. Was told that places closes at 4pm so arrived shortly after 2.30pm hoping to experience it, but was immediately "greated" with that we can only do it at the bar, so immediately "the experience" wasn't as nice as the person who welcomed us wasn't in the mood or just was very "short". Anyhow we were allowed to walk the vineyard ourselves which was truly superb so place deserves 5/5, interiors too, wine bottle designs as well 5/5, wines themselves 4/5 as were just OK (except brut which was 5/5), customer service 3/5 - done to be done, so overall has to be 4/5. Would I do it again, maybe, but there's too many vineyards around to take another chance... Work to be done folks! Leaving 4 as you have the potential here!!!
Marcel S — Google review
It was truly a delightful experience. I booked from Italy after reading many positive reviews online, and I must say the location is stunning, the wines were a pleasant surprise, and the pizzas were very good. We would have enjoyed exploring the area as well, but I understand that Sundays have shorter opening hours. Still, it’s an experience I wholeheartedly recommend.
Giulia T — Google review
Relaxed afternoon wine tasting and tour with Chubby. Definetly recommend visiting. I booked online and they were ready to welcome us to try the wines.
Serena P — Google review
We have visited vineyards in many countries on many continents but didn't know a lot about wine from Hungary. So when we visited, we knew we needed to try it. Bolyki was a great experience in terms of the wine and the winery itself. The winery is dug into the earth like a cave. It was very comfortable when it was hot outside. The wine was just fabulous. Both white and red, we found some we just had to bring home. It's affordable too which might not always be the case if the region gets recognized more. From Budapest to Eger, it is a short 2 hr bus/train ride. Make a day trip or stay the night. Worth the visit.
Tim W — Google review
My husband and I and our small dog all had an amazing time at Bolyki winery. The scenery and winery is absolutely beautiful with a great view of Eger from it as well as spectacular stone cliffs that make up the building. If we weren’t already married, it would be an amazing place to have a wedding. Great conversation and history as we drank heavy pours of phenomenal wines on our tasting. The wine is super delicious and we bought several bottles to consume later. Highly recommend!
Lila C — Google review
My friend from London and I (based in Budapest) had great time at Bolyki winery, though we had a very stressful start! On the way to Bolyki, google map guided us to a narrow unpaved road. Due to the rain, our car got stucked in the mud. So unless you have a 4x4, don't drive in from Egri út side, drive from Kistályai út. Big big thanks to Csaba from the winery, his excellent hospitality made us feel comfortable, cozy and relaxed, so we could enjoy the delish wine and food for the rest of the day! He and the owner of the winery also offered help to get our car out of the mud while still raining, so my friend could catch the flight back and end our weekend trip perfectly. As a foreigner, I couldn't thank more for their warm-heart and kindness. The winery itself is a hidden gem. Its unique scenery is very much suitable for wedding party or company event. I will recommend all my friends to pay a visit while in Eger.
Xiaoxi D — Google review
Incredible afternoon of tasting and learning. Stumbled across the winery on google maps and knew I had to go. Took the train from Budapest and a very easy 25 minute walk from eger station through the picturesque neighbourhoods. Felt very much ‘off the beaten track’ but was immediately welcomed in like it was someone’s home We had a very personal tour of the wine making facilities covering this incredible history of the vineyard. The tasting was great and incredible value for what we got - the wines were phenomenal and I learned so much about the different grape varieties. Great communication beforehand too after emailing to book a time. All in all, would thoroughly recommend if visiting Budapest and you want to escape to eger and taste some amazing wine

If you think about it, it truly is an amazing exhibition of art and craft mastery. But you have to think about it carefully, because on face value, it's quite a small exhibition and can seem deceptively ordinary.

It's unbelievable how those works of art are made from marzipan. The detailing and size of some "statues" are ridiculous. There are ones of traditional hungarian pillows, the minaret, from folk stories and much more. It's 1000 Ft for adults, 500 Ft for students.

Bar Italia is a popular Italian restaurant known for its welcoming and attentive service. The staff is praised for their friendly and accommodating attitude, going out of their way to ensure a pleasant dining experience. Located at the main square, the restaurant offers generous portions of delicious Italian dishes at reasonable prices. Guests have raved about the pasta dishes, such as tagliatelle and gnocchi, which are generously garnished and full of flavor.
This lovely Italian restaurant in the small Hungarian town of Eger shocked me, in the best way. I had such great service by my smiling server, and I was the only tourist in there in November. They have large portions and plenty of variety with cold seafood appetizers, pasta, and pizza.

Unfortunately… two attempts were not successful due to not nice staff :/ On Friday evening, around 8pm some people were leaving a table and wanted to pass it to us but we were asked to not take it without any reason.. I wanted to do reservation for next evening but without checking the calendar I was said that there is no places. In fact in the evening many spots were available 🤨

Amazing Italian food with generous portions and reasonable prices. Staff was kind enough to explain everything English. It’s located right at the main square, friendly service - I had the tagliatelle which was garnished generously with Parmesan, while my partner had Gorgonzola risotto with duck - both displayed excellently and full of taste. The tiramisu with pistachio was die for. Highly recommended!

One of the best waiter attitudes, and good pastas! The pizza was good but nothing special, but the pasta was really good! We will return to try other pastas as well. We have arrived at a very busy hour and took our seats inside. We asked the waiter wether we could sit outside if some seats would become free, and 5 minutes later he came back telling us that he had reorganised the seats and made us some space outside. This welcoming attitude remained throughout the night and from all waiters. One of them forgot that I ordered a lemonade so when I asked again about 10 minutes later he told me it was on the house for arriving late. They were the most kind!

I ordered way above their minimal limit for delivery and they called me that this amount is not valid anymore I should add more to the order for their "minimal" which is about ~7K HUF. That's a nasty trick to get more money for their "service". In other food delivery platforms they have 2K as minimum for this exact restaurant and even on the official restaurant website they say 2K. Sometimes they change it whenever they think could steal more. I don't recommend it and won't be ordering from there again.
