Lancaster Castle, a substantial fortress dating back to the 12th century, offers a range of attractions including a museum, guided tours, and activities for children. The John O Gaunt Gatehouse is an impressive feature with semi-octagonal towers rising 20 meters above sloping plinths. The castle has served various purposes throughout history, from a Roman station to a notorious prison.
Until recently a working prison, Lancaster Castle offers an amazing insight into modern and ancient history. Well worth a visit if you're in the area. Wonderful café on site which you can visit without paying an entry fee.

Had a wonderful and interesting tour by Sandra. You do need a tour to see most of the castle, but it was well worth it. Courtyard and businesses inside are free otherwise. Fascinating to be inside both the historic (and only closed recently) prison and the still functioning crown courts. Building is stunning and lovely views from just outside too
George L — Google review
Amazing place to visit we had a coffee and sat in the grounds. You can pay £9 to go on a tour as well. It also has holding cells that are currently used for HM Prison. There are only a few Parking spaces outside that you have to buy a ticket for . Recommended
Wheelz A — Google review
We took the guided tour of the castle, reasonable for £9 per person. Since it used to be a working prison and parts of it are still a working court, you have to take the guided tour to see the full thing. We had a lovely guide, very engaging and informative. The tour lasts about an hour. The castle has a lot of history, quite a lot of it is dark, the tour touches upon these themes too. There is a Prison Museum too. The courtroom is part of the tour, unless it is in session on the day. Photography isn't allowed in those parts of the tour. I would recommend visiting castle, doing the tour and then visiting the Priory at the back of the castle, there are some remains of roman baths too.
Saloni P — Google review
We did the tour as a family and it was really interesting. Great value for money. They give you lots of insight into the history and had a lot of knowledge. Simon made it fun and interesting and kept the whole group engaged. It’s my second time of going and I would go again. Dogs are not allowed but I couldn’t resist getting a snap of our dog there.
Simon M — Google review
We used the Lancaster Park and Ride to get to the castle, the buses were comfortable and the drivers really nice and helpful. The castle itself is large but you cannot visit lots of areas and you cannot photograph in the Civil and Criminal Court areas. Your entry includes a Guided tour that is highly recommended as it is interesting, informative and well delivered. The tour takes you through the castles history, much of it being as a court, prison and place of execution and explains the relationship to various monarchs who have held the Duchy of Lancaster. There is a nice comfortable cafe, with a relaxed atmosphere, toilets are clean and fresh.
Alan H — Google review
Worth a visit the tour is only £9 PP. Lots of history and interesting things to see, from the court rooms, prison cells and torture chamber devices. Must be able bodied, as the castle is old, dark in places and lots of steps.
Alice — Google review
You need to book on a tour to go inside. We arrived at 10am and booked onto the 10.45 tour so had a look round the Pendle Witches exhibition room and part of the police museum first. The tour inside was really interesting and the guide was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and entertaining. It lasted about 80min and was well worth the £9 fee.

Williamson Park, located just outside the bustling city center of Lancaster, covers 54 acres of parkland and offers a serene escape from urban life. The park features woodland walks, play areas, and a domed skyline memorial known as the Ashton Memorial. This Grade 1 listed structure was built in the early 20th century in memory of James Williamson's late wife. Visitors can also enjoy coastal views across Morecambe Bay and Fylde Coast.
Definitely one of the best parks in the UK. It has a mini zoo (with small admission fees) inside with animals kept with care. Our son loved the mini zoo and the butterfly gallery. The view is scenic, and perfect to have your packed lunch. There is also a lovely cafe on top of the hill inside the park (and the coffee is great). Public toilets are also available. If you are planning to visit Lancaster, this place is worth the price and time. There is a direct bus from the city centre (near the station). So, if you don't have a car, the public transport is good enough to make the trip.

A wonderful place to spend a day or a few hours! The park is perfect for walking and relaxing, with beautiful paths, ponds, and even a mini zoo. Families will love the playgrounds, and everyone can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The views from the park are absolutely spectacular, especially around the Ashton Memorial. If you’re visiting Lancaster without a car, it’s easy to reach by taking bus number 18 from the city centre. Highly recommended for a relaxing day out. 🌿✨

It's a lovely space to enjoy. The butterfly house contains all the gorgeous creatures and tropical plants for everyone to admire. There are lovely quiet space to sit and rest to enjoy the views. I moved here alone and Williamson Park is my favourite local comfort venture!

A well kept secret in Lancashire!! A beautiful and well kept 54 acres park, so wonderful in the outskirts of Lancaster and so close to the university. The Ashton memorial is magnificent! The little zoo and butterfly house are a delight. A small fee to access the former and a parking fee for a whole day parking. Pack a picnic bag, take your friends, your pet, your loved ones, it will be a well spent day in this gorgeous place. A

We had a great time at the park. We climbed the steps to the tower, enjoyed a nice coffee at the kiosk and went on a forest walk. An absolute delight

Such a beautiful park. Visited this park in January and had great views from the top of the hill, breathtaking views out towards Morecambe Bay. Lovely cafe with plenty of seating. Perfect for a Sunday morning walk.

Nestled in the charming seaside town of Morecambe, the Lancaster Grand Theatre is a historic gem that has been captivating audiences since its inception in 1782. Designed by the renowned Frank Matcham, this Grade II listed venue showcases a blend of amateur drama, music, dance, and professional performances. With its rich heritage and stunning architecture, it stands as one of England's oldest theatres and continues to play a vital role in Lancaster's cultural scene.
I'm ashamed to say that we lived in Lancaster for five years in the 80s and did not know about this theatre..... We came back for a visit to the fantastic music Festival and did the Grand Theatre Tour. It was absolutely wonderful. Our guide gave us a half-hour fascinating talk about the history of theatre in England and the history of this theatre in particular and then we got to stand on the stage and see all the riggings and stage stuff, and then the dressing rooms which have been populated by so many famous actors and comedians over the years. A lovely break for coffee and biscuits (chocolate hob-nobs - yum!) was followed by a look at the prop store which was also fascinating! A great hour and a half and worth £5 of anybody's money! Thanks to the theatre tour guides and staff. We had a wonderful visit. Jon
Jon T — Google review
A nice little theatre, in desperate need of a new foyer, as it can get quite tight when punters start mingling. The toilets and bars are pretty satisfactory, but the seats can be a bit uncomfortable for the larger, and longer legged audience member.
Sam A — Google review
Great fun at Northern Live Do I Love You last night. Danced at the side of the seating all night! Highly recommended stalls seating 17 & 18 if you want to dance!!
Liz — Google review
Great small venue. Friendly and helpful staff. View from our upper level seats was fine. Drinks and snacks not as overpriced as in many venues. Plenty of parking in that area of town. Rather small circulation spaces outside the auditorium make the interval and arrival less relaxed than in other venues and the toilet facilities could do with an update. That said, it's a venue we'd happily return to
Anthony H — Google review
Went to see The Overtones on May 12th. Staff were friendly helpful and the theatre is amazing and comfortable. The show was awesome..
Sarah M — Google review
It's a lovely little theatre with a lot of history. I've seen many shows here over the years. It's just the right size to be part of an enthusiastic audience but not be too crowded. Seating is a little cramped, or cosy, depending on your point of view.

Happy Mount Park in Morecambe is a delightful destination that promises an unforgettable day for families and nature lovers alike. This traditional park boasts an impressive adventure playground, perfect for children to explore and enjoy. Visitors can also take advantage of the summer splash area, where kids can cool off while having fun. The park features various sports pitches, making it ideal for those looking to engage in some friendly competition.
Great family fun day out! We went to Happy Mount to use the water zone and it was fantastic. The price has gone up from £1 to £4 per child and £1 per adult spectator, but still well worth the money for the hour of fun my boys had. No dogs are allowed in the splash area but we took him around the gardens and the kids outdoor play park. The Cafe is great and the staff even made me a Gluten Free tuna sandwich. Which was a relief. Prices were reasonable and they even do a Mr Whippy too.Great little pitch n put and kept us all busy for an hour and the swinging boats were a hit at only £2 per child. A fabulous afternoon out with ample parking below the Golf Club on the main road car park. A great afternoon outing for all the family.
Sharon H — Google review
So this review is based from a family with two grand children with special needs A lovely laid out park, various interesting areas Limited toilet facilities albeit clean The cafe is very noisy due to the play area being placed inside and the prices are a little steep too but there is quite a broad food menu to choose from Great coffee though👌🙂 The paths are poorly maintained in places for pushing wheelchairs on. The play area is in a nice sheltered area, it is well set out and the pine needles add a soft covering to the ground. (Some parts of the ground were muddy though) The zip wire is placed way too low and restricts its use for the heavier child Overall OK.
Stephen A — Google review
We visited Happy Mount Park form the first time yesterday. We spent the afternoon in the park with our two children's Nd had a jolly good time. Plenty to do, could easily have spent a full day at the park. The splash park was a great hit with our 4 and 7 year old. The free play area was a bit basic and the other issue was that a lot of the things were cash only. Some sort of pay once for everything would have been handy too.
Tom B — Google review
A really nice park with plenty of activities for everyone. We visited Sunday 3rd August 2025 and found that the Kirby Lonsdale Brass Band were playing. It was a really fabulous afternoon with plenty of people sitting listening.

Pay for near enough everything. £2.50 parking. Playground £1.50. Trampolines £2 for 6 minutes. Train around the playground, not sure how much as we’d stopped paying. Toilet was 40p. We won’t be visiting again. Total rip off. No wonder Morecambe is still declining.

Shopping
The Arndale Shopping Centre is visited by me approximately every two weeks. It consistently maintains cleanliness and a well-kept appearance. There are a few benches available for sitting, while security guards diligently oversee the premises. In case of any inquiries or issues, the staff is friendly and readily offers assistance. Ample bins are conveniently placed for disposing of rubbish, and both entrance and exit doors display signage regarding face masks, social distancing, etc., accompanied by a hand sanitizer station.
Has Poundland bon marche. Pound stretcher. Boots. Greg's. Iceland. a couple of charity shops. And a couple I can't remember. Small and clean.
Borajayne — Google review
I didn’t actually realise any Arndale Centres still existed, other than the big one in Manchester. I know they used to be a regional chain, but had assumed those days lay far in their past. Anyway, here indeed is an Arndale Centre – it’s very small and, visually, very much stuck in the 1960s. A single low mall with a 90 degree turn at the midpoint – the shops inside are uninspiring – you have your Poundland etc. Useful if you’re here for your shopping, of less interest to the tourist. Nothing really here to keep you occupied for more than, at most, 10 minutes. There seems to be outrage in some other reviews at the lack of toilets – did malls this small ever offer public toilets? Where would they go – it’s not a very big place… Burger King at one end, but it turns its back upon the mall and the connecting door was firmly locked – given the toilet was at that end of the shop, this is probably to keep out those other reviewers who spend their time hunting for one.. 😃

Don't bother people. Morecambe is going down rapidly. It's about time the council stepped in and threw money into making Morecambe a great seaside town to visit just like it was year's ago!!!
Sonic — Google review
Used to be a very nice place when I was little, now there hardly any shops in here because of the high prices to have a shop in thier. Only worth going in to get a Greg's
James F — Google review
Could be a great shopping centre with the right investment, but the owners clearly don’t want to invest any money into it and would rather let it rot
Rafia D — Google review
Oh dear.... Poor old Morecambe town centre, sad as it seems, if it wasn't for this 70's lump in the middle it would have completely died! In fairness to the centre it's reasonably full of shops, but Iceland, Poundland, and other such high end stores. The centre was well maintained and clean, maybe a good place to take shelter if the weather turns?

Burger King is a renowned fast-food chain that specializes in delicious grilled burgers, crispy fries, and creamy shakes. Wow. This place is so unbelievably bad. I was peckish and just wanted a bacon butty and a latte. It took over 10 minutes to make, the bacon looked rank and was really dry, and the coffee was the worst I've tasted. Avoid like the plague

I don’t think they want to serve customers. I’ve been in, wanted to pay with cash, there was no one queueing, just two member of staff behind the counter. I’ve approached them and asked that I’d like two chicken royale. They immediately pointed that I would have to order at the self ordering screens (which accept just card payments). I’ve pointed to them I am paying cash but then they said I still need to order there and get the receipt and go back to the counter with that receipt in order to pay cash. Ermmm whaaaat?? Couldn’t you just take my order without a fuss??? So here I am gone in second 2 without ordering a thing. It’s mad now days that some folk are so robotised and common sense doesn’t work no more….

Absolutely disgusted out of the whole order I only ordered 1 thing and surprise surprise wasn’t bagged up with the rest of the order, phone the restaurant to a smart arse employee refused for the food to picked back up because basically I didn’t have want it and just said they’d refund the money for the missing item, not good enough to me really plus the same excuse is used all the time there really busy short staffed etc and most places these days but they always manage to get an order right, waste of money foods gone in the bin and I’ll never be ordering from there again.

McDonald's is a well-known fast-food chain famous for its burgers and fries. Customers have experienced varying levels of service at different locations, with some encountering quick and friendly service while others faced longer wait times and missing items in their orders. Despite these mixed experiences, the food quality was generally as expected, although there were occasional issues such as missing ice cream or items being left out of orders.
ok.. Why 5 stars? Well, unlike many other macdonald's I've driven through, the order was correct without missing items or sundries. So, the food was exactly how I would expect, and for once, I didn't have to check the bag before driving off. Best one I've been to for a while. Must have taken some of the earlier reviews to heart and done something about it.

Ordered a special treat for grandchildren. Never again was a waste of almost £30. Food cold, wrong items and added ingredients we had asked to be left off. Customer service didn't want to know, just said it was delivered in a reasonable time, that wasn't the issue the food was clearly sat waiting and cold when it left restaurant.
Julie Q — Google review
Visited early Saturday night. Food took a long time to come in a not very busy restaurant. They seem to have a strange process where the food gets put in the bags and lined up at the front, but the 2 members of staff who are doing the drinks are just stood around and constantly having behind chased by managers who look through the order and tell them what to get. Resulting in the order taking a long time because the food is sat there, but then the employee who’s just been stood there chatting to his co worker about what shifts they’re on, then gets told by a manager to get 2 orange juiced, then they realise the fridge isn’t stocked and have to go and get a stack from the back fridge. Anyway, my order, mcchicken sandwich barely had any lettuce in, wrap was so burnt on the inside it was black, and after ordering it with no bacon it came with 1 piece of bacon in.
James — Google review
Since they reopened they've been crap! Due to being able to see over the counter properly now it's constant employees stood doing nothing and having a piss about. Took 40 mins to get food for two people when it was empty inside. Ridiculous

Morecambe. Dreadful experience! We ordered our food over the speaker and the server yawned. We asked for salt and napkins and received neither. We were told to park up and wait, the car park was full although the restaurant was empty and there was no queue at the drive-thru, probably because everyone was also waiting for their orders. We waited over 15 minutes and when the food arrived it was cold. We didn't even receive straws for our drinks.

Service was fine but got all the way home after requesting no cheese on my burger to find cheese on my burger. What’s the point in having that option if they just do it anyway? Chips were also over cooked. Wishing I’d bothered to check it before leaving

Staff are useless, I did a drive through order they asked me to wait in the car park, wrote my licence plate down wrong for the order, I asked the staff member that maybe my order just to get told "na don't think so it's for BJ not PJ" and walked around the car park twice. Waited and had to go in just to have the order remade because it was stone cold

Waited ages for food whilst watching staff looking at their phone laughing. Saw my food sitting on tray for 5 minutes until drinks made, so chips were cold and burgers luke warm. Service was awful.

The family restaurant Cottams Field Brewers Fayre is a laid-back chain serving classic dishes and international favourites. There are several locations across the UK, each with its own unique atmosphere and charm.
Lovely family environment with good portion sizes. Staff were attentive without being overbearing, and everything tasted fresh. Great value for money, will definitely be back for another visit soon.

Well I am sorry but there is calamari and BURNT calamari. I ordered calamari on 05/06 at 19.00 hrs, complained it was burned and told that is how the restaurant does it. Avoid it like the plague, dreadful. They knew it was not good but the managed Mac charged me anyway. They did offer to replace it but it would be the same. Hey ho, life nowadays, accept second best.

Affordable, cheerful, and family-friendly. Loved the variety on the menu and the service was quick. Kids had a great time, and it’s somewhere we’ll happily come back to again.

Great place for a relaxed family meal. The food came out hot, well-cooked, and the staff were really welcoming. Kids enjoyed the play area, making it a stress-free evening.

We were pleasantly surprised after reading some previous reviews, so glad that we gave it a chance here. We were welcomed as soon as we arrived and shown to our table . The staff were all really friendly and welcoming and our food was lovely. They also have a great play area for the kids and although we arrived half an hour before the play area closed they were happy to let our 7 year old join in.

Reasonably priced and very kid friendly. Plenty of seats and space for the kids to run around in the play area. Food was ok, as to be expected for the price and location. It's close to a hotel and similar other restaurants so worth a visit. Staff were helpful.

Nice casual dining spot. The food arrived promptly, tasted fresh, and the team were polite and helpful. Family-friendly atmosphere makes it ideal for an easy night out with kids.
Stella H — Google review
Great experience from start to finish. The menu is varied, food was tasty, and portion sizes were filling. Staff seemed genuinely happy to help, making the visit very enjoyable.
