Shopping
The Rotmain Center is a typical two-story shopping mall with a moderate range of well-known stores and casual dining options. It is situated on the western end of Marktplatz, providing a more contemporary shopping experience for those who prefer it. This compact mall serves as a convenient place to find travel gifts and even offers a Covid testing center that is efficient, professional, and friendly.
The Christmas decorations are beautifully done, adding a festive charm to the shopping experience. Overall, it’s an intriguing place to shop in Bayreuth with a good variety of stores and a welcoming atmosphere.

Indoor mall with an American feel. Plenty of shops to choose from. The restaurants are not bad and reasonably priced. It is perfectly located near the town center. The parking garages are very spacious and not overpriced. A wonderful mall.
Britt W — Google review
A medium sized mall with good shopping outlets like Müller, Tchibo, Bijoux Brigette, H and M, C and A, New Yorker and many more.

With a diverse range of restaurants, an abundance of shopping options, and numerous leisure activities, it's a one-stop spot for entertainment and shopping needs. One of the aspects that really stands out is the cleanliness of the center. It's always impeccably maintained, making the shopping experience even more pleasant. Whether you're in for some serious shopping, a casual stroll, or just to grab a bite, Rotmain-Center has something for everyone. It's the perfect blend of variety, convenience, and cleanliness - a true highlight in Bayreuth.

Bayreuth is one of the most I st Beautiful Town as it combines both old and new town centres. The new buildings that incorporates the old architectural structures were belt after the bombing during the Second World War. Rotmain-Centre is therefore the structure of the new buildings. It has the most Fabulous shops in a beautiful shopping mall just opposite the old town. It gives a visitor choice to enjoy both old and new.

Fantastic Brewery! Place is wonderful, with restaurant, shop, Museum.. The food is great and staff is Super friendly. A must if you are in Bayreuth!

Love the GREAT beer Sampler and their food. Cosy, classy in and outdoor interior. Good , attentive service . Def. kids friendly . Maisel has learned their craft lesson in the US: well done Jeff! Cool: the beer shop sells other greats like Schanze, Orca - Chapeau. Only nuisance : the silly park fees !
ChillyHW — Google review
Their beer menu feels as thick like an old phone book…. The exhibition is really worthwhile spanning from historical fun facts to massive displays of old glasses and krugs. The location itself is a treat on its own !

Good food with many food choices for all tastes. The steak was particularly good and cooked exactly as specified. Of course , outstanding beer selection. Beers were high quality. Reasonable price for the area. Lots of space for bicycle parking.

We just finished visiting the brewey tour. This experience raised the bar for future exhibitions for me for multiple reasons-it was only the 2 of us in the exibit and we had to discover it ourselves with the help of the audio guide and most importantly the interactive part in the basement. I would wholehartedly recommed it to anyome visiting Bayeruth and is a fan of beer! 10/10 would recommend.

Fantastic food, the catacombs tour was really interesting, and the beers were great as well. The staff were extremely friendly and made our experience (very large dinner party with more than 14 people) and excellent one! Many individuals spoke English and they had a menu available online in English as well with their entire menu (including beverages).

We had the beer museum tour. It took roughly an hour and the guide explained everything. People who don’t know german get an English transcript. After that we spent some hours in the bar. Quite a happening place. They have a wide variety of food and drinks. We tried 4-5 drinks. All the types were just perfect!

Nice vegetarian restaurant with vegan options. Good flavor and friendly service though menu is not too creative. My vegan friends were very happy with the place, so it’s perfect if u have vegans in the group. Main dish is €9-13 and potion is pretty big.

Cool ambiance, slow service, and flavorless food. The place was almost empty. We sat for 15 minutes before the waitresses came to our table, food took 40 minutes to come. We ordered dessert, and 15 min later, we asked for it, and they claimed it was not on the system. Then it took them 10 minutes to bring the cake. We asked to pay right away and the waiter said he would be back soon but it took him 15 more minutes to come back . Don't waste your afternoon.

Nice place. Lovely staff and accommodating. Just make sure to book a table as they seem to be very busy on weekends. Thanks for a nice experience.

Went for brunch on a Monday, not too crowded. Ordered the butterfly plate which comes with a bread basket, a lot of different jams and spreads, pancakes, fruits, and drinks for two. Prices were fairly cheap. Service was a little slow, but food was super yummy, and definitely enough for two people. Loved the fresh juice as well. The atmosphere is really cool and uniquely decorated. Would recommend!

Oskar - Das Wirtshaus am Markt is a charming eatery located in a 16th-century town hall, offering a showcase of Franconian and regional cuisine. The restaurant provides a relaxed atmosphere for guests to enjoy traditional German and Franconian food. With its outdoor seating, visitors can savor their meals while taking in the historic surroundings. This establishment is known for its solid and substantial German fare, making it a popular choice among locals and tourists alike.
Came in from the street tired, were seated instantly even though the place was quite busy. Ordered a glass of local beer for my wife and Meisel for myself. Drinks arrived fast, the waitress spoke good English. Had a braised pork with a dumpling and sauerkraut, and Wiena schnitzel with salad and potato. Food was delicious, service - excellent and quick. Strongly recommended! 5 out of 5.

A great restaurant in the pedestrian area in the middle of Bayreuth’s old town. They have beautiful indoor dining areas and terrace seating on the street. They serve mainly traditional Bavarian dishes but we ordered chicken schnitzel and mackerel salad. Both of the were delicious and the foods came fast. The service was friendly but they seem a bit understaffed. On a Saturday afternoon, there was almost no available tables left but we could luckily find one table on the terrace. Reservation recommended.
HJLee — Google review
One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to! Why? Because I loved everything from the seating arrangement (the gap between the dining table and me was perfect), and the food was excellent!! The servers were very polite and friendly people. 😄 The ambience is charming and classy. We had Schäufele and Schweinebraten in Biersöße. Then we saw our server carrying a jar full of strawberry 🍓 juice and talked to him. He said it’s in-house fermented strawberry brew (alcohol free). It was slightly sour and yeasty but also sweet. If you’re in the area looking for a romantic lunch/dinner or a family outing even this is the place for you! 🫶🏻 I’ll definitely visit Oskar again. Once again this is one of the best German restaurants in Bavaria!! 👍🏼

Nestled in the charming city of Bayreuth, Germany, the Margravial Opera House stands as a magnificent testament to 18th-century Baroque architecture. Constructed between 1745 and 1750 by renowned architect Giuseppe Galli Bibiena and his son Carlo for Margravine Wilhelmine of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, this opera house is celebrated for its opulent interior adorned with exquisite woodwork and breathtaking frescoes.
Beautiful! Beautiful and again Beautiful place! Very affordable, interesting exposition about history of the theater. Really worth visiting. There is WC (you don't have to buy ticket for that). Note, that you can't go with your backpack and it has to be stored so keep 1 euro coin to lock the locker
Evgeniia — Google review
Beautiful opera house and super interesting museum. Kids (10,7,5) loved it. There is a special riddle game for kids to and some interactive pieces in the museum - we spent over 2 hours there.
Katharina S — Google review
From the outside you could mistake it for any other old tenement house. Inside it's the most impressive opera I have ever seen, worthy of UNESCO title for sure. The visit to the Opera is limited to ground floor seats and a view from one of the lounges (unless you go with the guide) after that it's a modern museum, which is also quite interesting and has a miniature scene with which you can play. You can't bring any bags even the smallest ones, cabinets are downstairs for 1euro you get back. I wish someday to visit a play here since it has to be magical.

We visited Bayreuth Opera House with friends from Italy, full of excitement to see this UNESCO World Heritage site. The historical and artistic value of this cultural landmark is very important to us. Unfortunately, our experience was quite negative. While tour groups accompanied by guides were allowed to freely go upstairs and sit in the seats, we – as independent visitors – were repeatedly warned by staff at every step. Even though we did not break any rules, one staff member in particular kept telling us “don’t touch” in an insistent manner, which felt both unnecessary and discriminatory. At the same time, other tourists in the same areas received no such warnings, making it clear that we were treated unequally. We shared our concerns with the staff at the entrance, not only for our own sake but also as important feedback to help improve the visitor experience for such a significant cultural heritage site. Unfortunately, our complaint did not seem to be taken seriously. This attitude is unworthy of such a valuable cultural monument and its visitors. I felt disrespected and singled out, and it ruined the enjoyment of our visit. I sincerely hope that this kind of discriminatory treatment will end, and that all visitors will be treated equally and respectfully.

One of the most charming theatres I’ve yet to visit. They have renovated it in a way that would show original faded colours of the interior. A must see if you’re in Bayreuth.

The place itself is super cool, it has a great atmosphere. My husband's steak was amazing, I had the fish which was pretty good. We loved the drinks selection, but it took a while for the server to take our orders. All in all we liked it, would recommend and will be coming back!

You get all the bavarian beer paradise in this place. Also staff is very friendly. You can also visit their store
Ana B — Google review
ATTENTION! You have to pay to park on premise even if you are a guest of the restaurant. If you miss that you will receive a letter with a hefty fine from a contracted company which is never reachable via phone despite "opening" hours mentioned on the fine letter. This is the one-and-only restaurant parking lot that charges its guests that I know and it is not in downtown Munich or Berlin, but in the outskirts of provincial Bayreuth. Out of principle, I will avoid this "unique" place where you are charged parking fees by the bar while tasting a beer or two. Besides: Service very slow, but beers interesting and some very good, food not tasted.
Bernd M — Google review
Great food, lovely dinning area, some staff were very friendly and knowledgeable while others had 0 personality and were un helpful. All in all awesome time. Recommend the brewery tour.
Kaleb L — Google review
The food was so-so. The service was terrible; the waiter preferred to chat with other waiters rather than attend to customers. We waited about 25 minutes for a beer (it wasn't very busy). We waited another 15-20 minutes to pay. The place was generally very nice. We weren't the only ones disappointed with the service. Another customer was also waiting at the bar to order a beer until he pointed out that they weren't doing what they should be doing while at work. Everything was handled with great courtesy. I'll come back just because it's the only place nearby that serves craft beer, but the manager could pay more attention to the people he employs.

We took a group of women and children from our bible study. The owners and staff were AMAZING. The food was fabulous, too! Can't wait to go back!
Aimee M — Google review
My friend and I went to this restaurant this evening with very high expectations. However we got really disappointed. The main course we ordered were: pork steak with potato and vegetables, squid and some kind of kebab meat with rice and vegetables. The pork were made very dry, and the riced not cooked. Potato chips not crispy at all. We asked for free tap water, and were told yes. But in the end they charged us 5.5 euros for a jar of house made sparkling water with not so fresh taste. Besides that, they charged a 1.5 euro for doing some kind of barbecue of 4 pieces of squid and not telling us when they wanted us to choose barbecue or not. When we asked about these two charges, the owner had very BAD attitude, he said the water was always charged and he had this restaurant for thirty years and never had problem, so "It's YOUR PROBLEM!" Never seen an owner runs a business with this manner. Shocked. At the end the bill was 45 euros. Very disappointing experience. I don't recommend this restaurant at all.
Ting Q — Google review
Very good Greek food and super friendly service with personal touch. The food is great, portions are ok and lean on the healthy side of cooking style, which is a refreshing alternative to many Greek restaurants. Sitting outside in the old town is also a plus. Also offered us to keep our food warm while mama was busy with our 1-year old. And brought us a kid seat. Best Greek restaurant in Bayreuth in our opinion.

- recommended - This italian restaurant, placed in the centre of Bayreuth, is not only worth taking a glance at as the exterior and the interior are well-groomed but also worth talking a seat at. The place is also suitable for disabled people, vegetarians and business people. The menue offers a great deal of starters, such as bruscettas with various toppings. In comparison the possibilities for the main course are a bit limited but still very special (homemade green, normal or black gnocchi with wine-sauce combined with salmon, various kinds of spaghetti,...). Desserts are available as well. The cooking-skills and decor-skills are unbelievable! Spices are well picked and the portions are appropriate. The waiters are very welcoming and caring as they continuously make sure everything is alright. The prices are acceptable: a starter costs ~ (sometimes 3.50€) 7.50€ - 9.00€ a menue costs ~ 11.00€ - 18.00€ All in all it's definitely worth a visit!

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Eremitage, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Wilhelminenaue. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Eremitage, also known as the Hermitage, is a stunning 18th-century palace surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens located on the outskirts of Bayreuth, Germany. Originally a gift from the margrave to his well-educated princess, it was later expanded by her to include additional fountains, the Temple of the Sun, and an orangery. The palace and its picturesque gardens offer visitors a serene setting for leisurely walks, picnics, and photo opportunities.
Really nice garden for sightseers and pass 3 hours with family. Well maintained, though the water fountains were closed and covered during winter time. There is a big parking for free beside the garden.

April is not the best time to visit. Fountains are not working. Beautiful garden - bare sticks. Architecture is amazing. Will definitely come here in season.

Sunny spring day. Wonderful views, flowers. Fantastic park. Delicious pastries and coffee on a fair price.
Ana D — Google review
We visited the Eermitage because we love palaces, and especially the gardens surrounding them. Before arriving, we carefully reviewed maps and websites, checking the attractiveness of the place in terms of landscape architecture, both large and small. Upon arrival, we were shocked; what we saw exceeded our expectations and imaginations. I'll start with the convenient and spacious parking lot right at the park entrance. Beyond the gate, a different world begins: a world of paths, water, fountains, and secluded romantic spots. The new palace, the old palace, the Chinese pavilion, the orangery, the dragon's cave, lakes, streams, waterfalls, canals, and many other charming and beautiful places, all nestled among the greenery and miles of park paths. The entire experience captivated us. The park is very extensive, and we got a little lost, traversing some of the paths several times. Although there are information boards and signposts, we felt they were a bit lacking. A brochure with a park map would have been very helpful. The parking lot lacked a designated spot for a camper. We visited the park in May and will definitely return in the fall because it's a beautiful, charming, interesting, and noteworthy place.
Uplander G — Google review
Beautiful grounds a short drive away from Bayreuth. Spend a few hours wandering around very peaceful and serene landscapes and enjoy watching the fountains (be careful with the grotto or else you'll get wet when those fountains start!). There is a cafe on site for food and drink as well. Free entry and also plenty of free parking available.

The Hermitage Old Palace in Bayreuth is a historic and extensive complex featuring various water features, artificial ruins, and a magnificent sun temple. The guided tour of the palace offers an immersive experience with captivating stories from its past.
I didn't have time to visit the inside, which apparently is also quite amazing. However it is beautifully combined in the park with cascades from the water front. Especially interesting are the sides which look like they are carved from stone.

I visited on a rainy Friday morning and walked virtually alone through the vast gardens, awestruck with the beauty of man, nature and time. Among the highlights are striking allees flanked by hornbeam hedges, some quite mature. Beautiful walks, water features, flower plantings, mature tree specimens, linden promenades. Meticulously cultivated and worthy, worthy, worthy of your time.

Perfect attraction for even a difficult traveller. Unfortunately we visited this extremely beautiful place on a raining day but the beauty of it can't stop us unconditionally enjoying our very good time with the nature and manaficent design.

You need to get tickets for the tour of the castle and the tour is 1h long, but really worth it. The lady, who was our tour guide was excellent. She really transported us back in time while telling us the important stories of the palace. The 1 hour flew by. The palace is not like your usual palace, but it feels more like a residence / home with hidden secrets. I definately recommend booking a tour (we had the tour in German). It is also not that expensive.

Very nice restaurant! Real German food, very tasty. Friendly staff.

A cozy yet elegant brewpub on the edge of the Altstadt. Clearly a family run operation with some history. Several beer options vom fass and I chose the Shinnerla, their house beer and Helles lager. Great traditional dishes and seasonal options. The bärlauchcremesuppe was delicious! Also enjoyed the jägerkrüstchen as the main dish. A warm, friendly place for couples, groups, and families.
Matthew G — Google review
I can only recommend this kitchen which serves typical Bavarian food but with a little revisiting. The service is smiling and effective, the portions are ample. On the way from old city centre to Haus Wahnfried, you will and should not miss it.
Christian K — Google review
Though this is no longer a brewery, their beer is contract brewed elsewhere and still quite good. It's dry and fruity. The pub is bit kitschy but from what I read, the food sounds good. We stopped in for last call after eating (and drinking) at still brewing Becher-Bräu on the outskirts of town. I'd eat here next time and have more than one beer, too.
Beer W — Google review
Menu, setting and the beer all looked promising as I passed this pub on the way to the museums, and I also read the notice at the door saying that Sunday closing was 1400 hours, with last food orders at 1330. Cutting short my time at one of the museums, to be sure of gettting served, at 1315 I entered the half-empty restaurant, to be firmly turned away. Probably this is a good place to eat: certainly I missed out owing to poor customer service.

a large venue with a nice outdoor area where we enjoyed sitting. In general, wasn’t anything special, but it met our expectations overall.

We came to the Tesla charger. We usually don’t expect much of the places/gas stations around it in terms of food. I was quite surprised with this place. Nice building/decoration inside, large, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. We ate the pinsa Avocado Amore, a salad and kid’s pasta. Everything was very tasty 👌
Carolina C — Google review
Waiter was overwhelmed but sweet Food was mediocre This is my 3rd time I went there and it was my last if I can prevent it. The fries are really good, I will say that much. The chili cheese sauce has never in her life seen any chili. It was cheese sauce and a ready made one as well. The patty of my burger was ok the bun dry. We were a huge group so some delays and messed up ordees are to be expected but if you only put ONE waiter alone there to take orders of roughly 55 people.... that's ridiculous. He was understandably totally overwhelmed. Food came fast.,..if it came without reminding them. It could be a really nice place but for the price tag I expect a more organised place and honestly....better food.
Sonja — Google review
I love going there. People are very friendly and always willing to help. The food is great for a good price.
Melissa O — Google review
We had lunch here while charging our car and it was certainly one of the best "charging lunches" that we have had. Tasty food, excellent mango ice tea, friendly service and chilled, friendly atmosphere.
Caroline R — Google review
We visited the place on a Saturday morning for the breakfast buffet. It was quite cold inside and the tables haven't been cleaned properly (there was ham and butter sticking to one of the chairs...). The buffet food was okay but nothing extraordinary for the price, drinks not included. Tiny plates so that you would have to take several trips to the buffet bar if you wanted a decent portion.
Vero B — Google review
It's ok... Well the Cafe is located directly next to the street so the traffic gets noticed pretty easily. But the design of the Café makes it very comfortable because it's very well decorated and cleaned with lots of space (interior & exterior). Toilets are also clean. The offer of food & drinks is big (American specialities, Thai kitchen, German food,...) and the prizes aren't as high (food around 10-15€, drinks around 3-5€). But during my visit, the staff was so unorganized and chaotic that my first offer got ignored so I sadly didn't get anything served for long. The food tasted good, the portions are normal sized. As it came to payment, the staff member made a mistake in counting all my offers, another staff member couldn't communicate with me because of lack in German language (which isn't appropriate as a waiter) and another employee had difficulties in remembering the table-numbers as he served the wrong food to the wrong guests multiple times so I'm disappointed in the service. Free WiFi and online menus available. All in all its worth a visit, minded that the service and location aren't as enjoyable.

Walking distance from the opera and even though all tables were booked , the service was very quick and correct. In addition the carpaccio was delicious and the same for the other dishes we ordered. Lovely tables under the stars on a warm summer night. Incredibly well organized to attend to each guest efficiently and in a friendly way. Mille Grazie Maurizio!

Nice and lovely atmosphere. I ordered Angus stake and a pizza. All was tasty. Water costs 6 euro. Stake was around of 28. Pizza kinder 7 euro.
Ahmad H — Google review
Fish is not recommended. A waitress tried to bone the sea-bass by bringing a separate table and failed heavily. We asked to give it just like that. Fish tasted not special, and luke warm. For such prices, one should only take guests for pizza and antipasti, since the location and terrace is wonderful.
Pederdelsolar — Google review
The food was delicious indeed, the surrounding is lovely, with a tranquil terrace on the edge if the town. It is quite a pity that for reasons unknown to the stuff was not quite up to the task. I wonder if their objection was me not looking like an opera singer or at least a mayor of some middle sized town, but their friendliness was limited to the absolute minimum. Also, they forgot to take our order for the main course. Would be fine for a small diner, but hey, this is supposed to be one if the fancy restaurants in town. And it isn't cheap.
Imre — Google review
Nice outdoor location, great surroundings, probably the fastest delivery of my order in a restaurant ever (~3min?). Downsite: Very process oriented and for my personal taste still too much Covid oriented (Mid of July). Which brings a lack of coziness. The biggest downside: Food is mediocre, slightly above fast food. Probably related to the delivery time. The meat tastes like frozen twice, and waiting for me all day long in the sun. Not saying it’s the case, but - I don’t know how say, soggy? Vegetables ok, juice with too much water? Would I come again? Maybe, enjoy a drink in the sun. Ignore the staff und no food.

We visited this place with our dog! So dogs are allowed in this place. 🫶🏻 It has a lot of birds like 🦚peacock and different cranes and animals like deer and ram. The ram 🐏 is very friendly and wants to be petted! So a wonderful park if you’re looking to engage with animals. The park has a lot of beautiful trees and a muddy colored small lake. It’s kid friendly as before the animal park starts, there is a big kids playground. This is a nice weekend outing destination if you live in the city and feel like escaping in nature. 🥰 There are also no entrance fees.

Neues Schloss, also known as the New Palace, is a magnificent 18th-century palace located in Bayreuth. Once the residence of the Margraves of Bayreuth, it now stands as a symbol of the town's rich history and culture. The palace boasts stunning Rococo interiors and houses impressive collections of porcelain and paintings. Surrounding the palace is a beautiful court garden with a picturesque park, offering visitors an ideal spot for relaxation.
We visited on a cold, wet afternoon so didn't spend much time in the extensive gardens and grounds, but the interior was well worth the entrance fee. The rooms are beautifully decorated, it is easy to get around on both upper and lower floors, although there are some parts you can only visit on one of the regular guided tours. There is a small shop and museum, and a gallery of pictures on the ground floor.
Lesly H — Google review
I really felt hospitality here at the Schloss today. I came by today because I liked my walk at sunset out at the Schlosspark last visit. Wasn’t expecting anything as I walked in and the gentleman at the Kasse was too warm and happy not to talk to. I got the ticket and was informed of a guided tour at the gallery. But the good vibe at the Kasse waS only the beginning. We ran into a friendly staff who accompanied us to the restroom, and the guided tour lady was full of passion on the topic of the Schloss history. You see joy and spark in her eyes and she tells the stories. I had such an entertaining walk with all the details she gave. Luckily we were there in the early morning. So we ended up having an exclusive guided tour! I can probably also keep telling the story I learned today for quite a while among my friends. Recommend, you will have fun interacting with the people here and if time permits, visit the opera house too. To summarize, come early, no need to buy beforehand, interact, have a walk at the park at sunset. Park your car behind the opera house. In May this place is not crowded.

Really enjoyed visiting this palace! There were 2 part to explore. Italian palace with guided tour. The tour is always only in German, however, they provided printed brochure on different languages. And the 2nd floor was for exploring by yourself. Printed brochure was also provided. Female and male wings. Beautiful and elegant interiors. Every room is different and interesting on its own.
Alyona K — Google review
The palace is open to the public for tours and is a popular tourist destination. Visitors can explore the State Apartments, the Margravine's private chambers, the Court Theatre, and the Orangery.
Amy — Google review
The palace in itself is downright beautiful and worth a visit. There are incredibly interesting details in each room and you can quite understand the atmosphere of the time and the changes throughout the years. The guidance can be improved, though. Mainly because, in spite of remarkably kind personel, there are no audio-guides and the tours are only in german (the guide was truly kind and did her best, but you can tell you are missing details and even jokes). I'm grateful in any case. Truest complaint: I don't quite understand the full ban on taking pictures (with or without flash) and 5,50€ seems a bit much. Would definitely recommend.

Wahnfried is the former residence of the renowned composer Richard Wagner, now part of the Bayreuth Richard Wagner Museum. The museum focuses on Wagner's life, work, and legacy. It showcases detailed exhibits including his scripts, the opera house he built, and costumes from his works. Additionally, visitors can explore the place where Wagner lived and learn about his history and family.
Very impressed by the modern, well-balanced, elegant setup of this museum. A cool haven on a hot day. Take your time to sit down and listen to Wagner music while contemplating a subterranean zen garden. Admire intricate paper dioramas of opera decors.

David A — Google review
A museum dedicated to Richard Wagner, but you will learn only odd bits of information about him here. Perhaps there is an assumption that the people who visit are all Wagner devotees who know everything about him. It is worth seeing the rooms on the ground floor of the house, which have been restored to look as they did when Wagner lived there, but many items are covered up and unable to be seen. The upper floor which is supposed to describe his life is organised in a series of rooms, each of which deals with a certain period. Fine in principle, but there is no indication of where you should go to in what order. Some years appeared to be missing altogether. The actual content is scant - facsimiles of scores, copies of photos etc. Some limited information is given about Wagner on a sign in each room, but we are never told how he came to be given a house by the king of Bavaria. Or how he came to be so rich that he could have portraits and sculptures of himself and his family made by top artists, when for long periods of his life he had to move frequently because he was so poor. So much about him is left out. How was he able to build his own opera house? You won't find out here. The information on the main signs in each room is in both German and English, but the English is so poor (google translate?) that it is at times laughable. So many people come to Bayreuth for the Wagner Festival paying so much money - is it really too much to ask that some of that money could have been spent on having proper English translations? And don't bother with the audio guide. There's hardly anything on it.

A really in-depth museum that does great justice to Wagner! It did a good job of covering his life and gave lots of interesting insights to him and his family. Occasionally there was info only in German, and I wish there were English translations for all the info boards, but it’s still super enjoyable for a Wagner fan regardless of your language. I think the entry price is fair when compared to other museums I’ve visited around Europe so far. This was my favourite day of my Europe trip and I’m very glad I got to visit

Great place to visit and learn more about Wagner. But ONLY if you're interested in Wagner. Basicly it's 3 museums. Wahnfried, where he lived is about where he lived and his life. Then the house next to it where his son Siegfried lived with his wife Winnifred, showing the darker side of the Wagner family history. Then there is the latest modern addition which houses an exhibition of custumes of the Wagner operas and temporary exhibitions. There is also a silent movie made for his 100th birthday. All in all very interesting and informative.
Michiel F — Google review
Enjoyed walking around Wagner's house, there was an English translation if you want one. One of the gentlemen who worked there gave me a mini personal tour in German, which was lovely. He also informed me that the Listz's house was next door. The coffee shop was good with some yummy cakes.
Matt T — Google review
Way above my anticipation! I was gonna visit the liszt museum but RWM was on the way, in the end this one trumpped Liszt museum from a non-German speaker, non-Wagner fan's viewpoint. To start with, impressive collections of costumes and opera set design down the -1 floor, with helpful staff who gave me an informative explanation when my tour guide stopped working. (sidenote: its a bit sad to see the conductor wall swarming with nothing but white men) The museum buildings have been renovated in recent years in a fancy but not extravagant way. And they have the most comfortable sofa seat of all the museums that Ive been. P4 is Wagner's study/workplace, what a view!

Guests rave about the fantastic fresh ingredients used in their dishes, particularly during chanterelle season when flavors are at their peak.
Beautiful sit down restaurant with outside seating avaliable. Food was absolutely amazing. Staff was friendly. Prices are in the range of €10-€30 and, absolutely worth it for authentic Bavarian food!

Wonderful experience! Arrived close to closing and welcomed. Mushrooms were the star but ribeye, pork, potatoes and spaetzle were all a close second. Highly recommended.

Thai restaurant
Located in Bayreuth's Southeastern Inner City, Hua Hin is a Thai restaurant that offers patrons the opportunity to indulge in authentic Thai cuisine. Although it may not be accessible for individuals with limited mobility due to its lack of wheelchair accessibility, Hua Hin provides a diverse menu filled with delectable dishes from Thailand.
It was an amazing experience. The starters (satay, spring rolls and calamari) were heavenly. The three duck dishes we ordered were worth the cost. The platters were so full, the duck crispy and/or juicy. Furthermore, the ambience of the restaurant was just right. I never knew such a place existed just off the beaten track in this small town. I have to thank my daughter for the inspiration.
Ngozi E — Google review
We visited on a cold, wet night in March, so there were not many people about, and the restaurant was fairly empty. There were six of us, so we had plenty of space. Service was helpful and friendly and the food was very good (in my limited experience of Thai food). I had a soup to start and then sweet and sour style prawns, which was very tasty and not overly sweet, as in some Chinese restaurants. The wine was good value in 1L bottles, although not the highest quality (you get what you pay for) - but drinkable. As we struggled to find anywhere open that had space, we were very pleased to be accommodated in this warm, nicely decorated space.
Lesly H — Google review
A very good Thai restaurant. The meals were very delicious and the cocktails equally good. HOWEVER the service is very terrible. Specifically, the main employee is rude, never smiles, and acts angry every time we visit. We wish she was friendly and more welcoming as the food is so good.
JK M — Google review
A generous two stars here because this establishment typically has decent food (for Bayreuth -important caveat). But whatever you do, don’t get fried rice. The rice was pretty mushy and kind of salty. Fried rice 101 failed. My dining companions did mostly have decent food, I must admit. But one thing we all agreed on was the egregious service. And some of it definitely seemed racially motivated. They would fawn over and hover near the white customers and have zero patience with us. Also, if they had multiple plates of food, they would literally bypass our table and then return. Bizarre to watch in practice. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.
J A — Google review
I really had a great time. The food was good, and I really loved the bamboo aesthetic.

I ordered Mittagsmenu 2, €8.90. I didn't know the name of this meal, but tasted like Pho Xao (Vietnamese meal) rather than Thai taste... And staffs were not very friendly. If you expect whatever Asian taste not genuin Thai, it can be a good place, especially the interior was quite South-east Asia taste.

was crowdy at Saturday but they have found a table for us. So for sure it is better to book a table. We like Thai food but here we found Tom Yam not so spicy but salty. Our 9 year old daughter was happy to eat this change. We May ordered a wrong article and need to try it again. A rice with schrimps was very tasty. Jasmin tea was served in a small nice teapot. The decert with ananases was also good and our son was happy to see ice cream inside. Atmosphere is fine.

Wagaya Bayreuth is a contemporary restaurant offering a variety of Japanese dishes such as ramen noodles, gyoza, sushi platters, and sake. The restaurant has a terrace for outdoor dining. It is known for its great and innovative sushi offerings. The menu also includes vegan-friendly options inspired by classic French, Italian, and Nordic cuisine.
Really good food! Im a vegetarian, and sometimes it's a bit difficult to find something thats tasty here, but this is a must go to place for vegetarians . Their sushi is really good! They have the best soya sauce as well. I also ordered a vegetarian Kape & it was really good. The plate size is big, it comes with salad & rice. I have also tried the Japanese version of a Lassi & it's so refreshing & good! Their prices are ok, not too expensive nor cheap. I recommend it ☺️
Hanin A — Google review
The food was perfect—the quality and the taste. The restaurant was very busy and noisy. At the beginning, we waited 10 minutes, even though we had a reservation.
Sona P — Google review
Went here because of the high rating on Google maps and wasn’t disappointed given expectations. The sushi (nigiri) were giant, with 3x the rice as normal, so the balance was quite off. The salmon was of very good quality but sadly not the tuna maguro. I was pleasantly surprised that they had kanpyo maki though. That said, the main problem with the sushi rice was that it was just a giant lump of rice and not seasoned as it should (so it’s not quite Shari). We also had tori karaage (fried chicken) and dumplings. The karaage was fine, fried very well and not oily. The other more “innovative” rolls and sushi were, however, a disappointment. Overall, the salmon was great, the maki rolls and fried chicken were nice and the rest were not so good.

Service was nice albeit illogical. Food first, then plates much later. Bottles first, then glasses later. Food preparation was quick, but tasted rather bland. Sushi was o.k. Ramen was disappointing. Decor and atmosphere were both cool.

Went there because of excellent reviews. After visiting the place I’m quite surprised where all those 5-star reviews are coming from. Very average pasta made with canned tomato sauce and only 5 pastas in menu seems quite odd for an Italian restaurant. They didn’t even bring pepper, salt or olive oil, not even talking about bread. Too overpriced for very average food.

Food was good, but the service ruined the experience. Our server was dismissive, ignored us most of the time, and never mentioned the kitchen was closing until we tried to order dessert. Poor communication and attitude made the visit disappointing.

The Bayreuth Festival Theatre is a 19th-century venue with a grand stage specifically designed for the works of composer Richard Wagner. It hosts the annual Bayreuth Festival, a renowned opera celebration that attracts visitors from around the world. The city also offers a vibrant culinary scene, featuring traditional Bavarian eateries, trendy cafes, and craft beer breweries. Notable landmarks in Bayreuth include the Margrave's Opera House, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Bayreuther Festspielhaus is for all Opera enthusiasts and culture lovers. This place is worth a longer visit. Ofcourse especially for the Wagner Opera weeks in summer. It might just a bit tricky to get tickets, just be pacient. Here are also a few very disappointing things. First of all… parking is 10€ to be paid in cash (just be aware). Also you are not allowed to bring in bags bigger than a small handbag, also sitting pillows are not any longer allowed to bring in - you need to get them inside (if you are lucky). One last thing, a small Mineral Water (0,25l) is 5,50€. - Just a pity they take such an advantage out of their guests.

Had a nice stroll along the theater - located on a hill - and in the park in front of it. We didn't go inside, but from the outside, it does have a nice view!

Attending the Bayreuth Festival is an indelible experience for all Wagner fans and also for anyone who loves our is interested in Western culture. The productions can be uneven because of the German love of theatrical deconstructionism (Regietheater), but the music making and all the craziness surrounding the festival itself is truly something to be experienced at least once in one's life.
Carl E — Google review
Beautiful opera house with amazing acoustics. The only downside is the lack of translation of the libretto… I know, many would say: ‘that’s how Wagner left it’🥹 Summer 2025: Tristan and Isolde had fabulous musical performance and Meistersinger had beautiful staging.
Gabriel B — Google review
Really enjoyed my evening here. The sound in the opera hall is really great. With every seat sold the theater was really fully packed, but even though the place was so crowded, the politeness and hospitality of the attendees and the staffs at the various venues lent to a very enjoyable and stress-free evening. I would recommend anyone to attend this venue. I watched Tristan and Isolde, the Performances, the staging, and choreography especially between the orchestra and the singers was unmatched, as this is one of the most difficult operas to coordinate. It was excellently done and a pleasure to experience.
Swede S — Google review
Just got back from seeing the entire Ring Cycle last week. If you are lucky enough to get tickets, go without hesitation. We were sat in the mittleloge (bottom row of boxes) and had an excellent view of the stage despite being the back row because the rake is excellent. The seats were cushioned & very comfy (nothing like the "hard wooden" description I was expecting! The stalls seats are less padded though from appearance, but you can borrow cushions from the theatre if necessary). Yes the direction/set was a bit whacky (so if you're a purist this may not be your cup of tea), but the sound is like nothing else you'll ever experience - world class singers, world class orchestra, perfect balance (due to the orchestra being under the stage), could hear every word (not that I understood it but no matter if you know the story the acting and music will be enough). Tasty bratwurst for the intervals, no dress code (although a lot of people dress up, I'd say don't go in your jeans!). Excellent all round.
Helen C — Google review
A Must-Visit in Bayreuth - Amazing and Classy Experience An amazing and classy experience! The best music and a great opera house with the best acoustics. Bayreuth is a must-visit at least once in a lifetime. And the festival - don’t miss this experience if you have the chance!
Razvan D — Google review
I have waited more than 10 years for tickets to the Wagner Festspiel, and it was well worth the wait. I was concerned that the opera house does not have AC and the seats are uncomfortable, but it really was quite bearable. The dress is formal, and the audience remained still as a mouse for the entire two and a half hours of the performance of Das Rheingod that I saw. There are no surtitles so you need to do your homework. The singing is world-class and the orchestra perfect in all regards. The sound from the Wagner orchestra pit lives up to all the hype. The orchestra, including the brass, can play at full volume, but they never cover the singers, and every word can be understood. Amazing! A word about the Bayreuth productions, they have been described as avant guard. They certainly may not be to everyone's taste, but it is, after all, part of the Festspiel "experience." If you are fortunate to get tickets to this unique venue, give it a try. There is nothing else like it in the world.

Follow the painted white line on the floor from room to room as your guide around this boutique museum and you do not need to understand German. Japanese restaurant
Miss Vietnam in Bayreuth is a charming restaurant that offers a successful combination of Vietnamese cuisine and sushi. In a modern setting, guests can immerse themselves in the world of Asian flavors and indulge in healthy, vegan, and vegetarian dishes. The weekly sushi buffet is highly recommended for those looking to explore the diversity of Japanese cuisine.
Our family of two adults and two young kids ate an early dinner here a couple weeks ago and we were very impressed! The staff is very friendly and kind, very patient with our kiddos. The food was also delicious! We had sushi and the fried noodles with tofu. So good. We will definitely be back again!

This restaurant is amazing the food is spectacular. The items marked spicy are truly spicy but sooooo good. I would give them 6 stars if I could. We had Pho and a bento box everything was fresh and very flavorful. You definitely need to stop here and try the food.

We stopped over at the this place while traveling south. We had simple soup, fried rice and rice noodles. Food was great and tasty. However the service was not that great. It felt as if they were not interested in serving us and annoyed. When asked for child high chair answer was “It there in some corner”. Hence the just 2 stars for service.

Unfriendly, and the noodle was too salty and a very important point is not so clean.

First of all, it is not possible to pay with a card. We left our belongings and went out of the restaurant to withdraw money. We didn't sit at a nice table because we didn't make a reservation. That was our mistake. The taste of the chicken in the noodle was bad, so I added plenty of sweet chili sauce. But the sushi was good

The service is top-notch—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making you feel like a valued guest from the moment you step in. Their Italian wine selection is excellent and the staff really knows their wine and all their recommendations are excellent. This is a must do if you’re in Bayreuth!

Had a reservation for 8:30 pm and didn’t get seated until 20 minutes later when the kitchen closes at 9 pm, we didn’t end up ordering until about 9:30 pm thankfully we were able to get food since we had a reservation for before and they didn’t have a table ready for us before, otherwise service was okay one lady was very kind and friendly to us but our server was quite dismissive and seemed very annoyed with all the whole night. Food was alright I would recommend for more of an aperitif more than dinner but setting is very cute and it’s a nice outside seating and in a very accessible area. I would go back for drinks but maybe not food.

The second perfect Italian place that I have found in Bayreuth. The atmosfere let me fell like I'm in Italy. They offer a Great selection of Italian products but you can also find German products. The location is amazing! Perfect place for brunch... Or Aperitivo !!

Very nice place with Italian food and wines. When we got there, it was already late at night and they didn't have warm dishes anymore, just a set of cold cuts and cheese. We got a big one and it was well served. Also, despite being super busy, the staff was really nice.

Imre — Google review
The three stars I'm giving here are entirely for the service and absolutely not for the food, which was utterly disappointing. I was really hoping to have some great Italian food for lunch today, and it was mediocre at best, absolutely inedible at worst. I first ordered the "Tagliatelle with deer ragout made with wine". It was indeed inedible. So salty I could barely even swallow it. And how can you mess up minced deer with wine? Somehow they managed to do it - aside from the massive salt attack, it was actually quite flavourless somehow, it was just the strangest thing. I mentioned to the server that the dish was simply not what I expected, and I normally love Italian food no matter which region it comes from. So I asked them to simply replace the dish with a simple tomato sauce and spaghetti dish - how can anyone mess up something so basic, right? Once again a totally flavourless sauce aside from the huge amounts of Parmigiano I had to dump into it just to give it a little umph. It was worse than anything I could make myself at home, that's for sure, this type of dish is not the reason I go out and pay for Italian once in a while. The only thing done right was they cooked the pasta correctly, but even I can do that. At least I could actually get down the second dish, unlike the first one, but it was really nothing special and actually quite forgettable. I don't know if I made a mistake by ordering pasta here and instead should have ordered something else, but let's just say I really didn't expect unspectacular to downright inedible food. I will never return again.

(Translated by Google) It's just way too expensive. Despite the coupon in the app that I downloaded especially for the one-time visit, I paid EUR 13.90 for a burger, cold and sometimes hard fries, 6-pack of nuggets and a small Pepsi. The best thing was the mayo, it was really very good. Didn't know there was a curry sauce on the burger, thought it would be like the long chicken at MC. The staff were friendly. The burger was fresh and hot. The nuggets were also somehow hard and lukewarm, at least not freshly prepared. For that price you can eat at Oskar and there a few houses away.

Great service, the waiter was REALLY nice! The food is good. They make a great pizza (5/5), they have a great dough. My Caesar salad was ok, just something was missing, bud the vegetable was fresh (4/5) and the chicken was tasty and not dry. Italian salad was ok but they used low quality ham in slices and it looked horrible and tasted like a ham from a plastic cover (3/5). Overall I liked the restaurant and I recommend to go there.

(Translated by Google) How nice that, as an actor, my p* was touched in a certain way during rehearsal. No objections from either side, despite loud "Ahhhs," silence. Director Hoppe had decisively granted power: a gay actor from Cologne (like him) was allowed to position us for the first time, something that never happened again. The director had just initiated personal contact (a younger heterosexual student) over beer, and despite disturbing after-effects, showed no criticism, just more concentration. The list of those present at the annual performance was half a million, only more pretense back then. Museum
If you're intrigued by the world of classical music, a visit to the Richard Wagner Museum is an absolute must! Nestled in Bayreuth, this expansive museum comprises three distinct buildings that delve into the life and legacy of the legendary composer Richard Wagner. Here, you can explore permanent exhibitions showcasing his works and influence, alongside a special exhibition area enriched by research from the Richard Wagner Foundation. The museum's mission is to safeguard Wagner's artistic heritage for future generations, particularly inspiring young artists.
Michiel F — Google review
two floors of exhibitions. the underground is for wagner's operas costumes and the actors who played the roles in history along side replicas from the opera theatre. the ground floor is in a form of educational about the life path and the life stages of the composer. the ticket also allows you to enter the Wahnfriedhaus and the small garden house.
David A — Google review
Enjoyed walking around Wagner's house, there was an English translation if you want one. One of the gentlemen who worked there gave me a mini personal tour in German, which was lovely. He also informed me that the Listz's house was next door. The coffee shop was good with some yummy cakes.
Matt T — Google review
Nice audioguide. Comprehensive music recording archive to listen to with headphones of great quality. Love the decoration style and interior design of the museum — they go well with the Wagnerian culture with a “theatrical effect” itself. Staff is considerate and gentle.
Wang 诗 — Google review
Good, small museum. Well documented perspective on his life and works. Including some of the dark side (not his gruesome writings though?). Quiet, serene, tasteful.
Michiel B — Google review
T Z — Google review

(Translated by Google) I had ordered sandwiches for a celebration. During the very friendly preliminary discussion, all wishes were taken into account; we were given sausage, vegetarian and vegan. The vegan spreads were all homemade and absolutely excellent! Everyone present was thrilled, the taste was really outstanding. Very varied and extraordinary. I can recommend it without reservation!

(Translated by Google) The Lang Bakery provided us with delicious baked goods (snacks and various sheet cakes) for our coffee at our wedding and created our wedding cake. It was simply delicious, and our guests loved the wide selection. Thanks to the smaller portions, they were able to sample as many different things as they wanted. The Zimmer family was always very warm and friendly, providing competent advice, and everything went smoothly and easily on the wedding day, including delivery. The wedding cake was incredibly fresh and exquisite, made to our exact taste and decoration. The price/performance ratio is absolutely perfect – we thank you very much for the wonderful desserts and say see you next time!
