Memorial
The Buchenwald Memorial, located northwest of Weimar, stands as a poignant reminder of the atrocities committed during World War II. This solemn site was once one of the largest Nazi concentration camps in Germany and now serves as a place to honor and remember those who suffered and died there. The memorial features an information center, guided tours, exhibitions, historical documents, and preserved ruins including watchtowers and barracks that confront visitors with the harsh realities of war and dictatorship.
This is such a well done memorial. So sad, so informative, you can spend the entire day here reading, listening to audio stories, wandering the grounds. This is a story that needs to never be forgotten. If you are in the area, make time for this.
Glen M — Google review
Very large memorial site with excellent bookshop, holding titles in 4 languages. The guided tour is worth the small price and is preceded by a 30min documentary giving an overview of the camps history and including survivors memories. Visiting this and the Topf & Sons – Builders of the Auschwitz Ovens Place of Remembrance in Erfurt is well worth it. Give yourself at least half a day, the site is huge and mostly outdoors. The cafe may be closed without notice.
Mighty V — Google review
Everyone needs to see this. I really recommend doing the guided tour as you would never get as much information with the audio guide. A big shout-out to our young guide, who does this beside her studies. She had a very nice voice, was not to emotional and tried to answer every question.
Paul L — Google review
Just like beautiful places in a country i believe visiting places like this is also in the package of visiting and exploring a country. Its heartbreaking especially the crematorium which i started my visit from, It was devastating knowing what people in here have been through and on what historical we are stepping . I recommend visiting Buchenwald .The presentation is clear and engaging.just make sure you are mentally ready and u have some water and food with you .
Sana M — Google review
An overwhelming experience but still very educational
Jolana — Google review
Memorials like this must be preserved as a warning to mankind of how man can turn towards man. This camp is worth visiting also for the excellent museum. If you take a tour guide you will be able to enter the crematorium and get excellent descriptions, moreover all over the remains of the camp there are plaques and photos. Go to the end of the camp where, hidden in the grass and vegetation, there are hundreds of remains of kitchenware, which are as shocking as the rest, but perhaps the most shocking element of this camp are the remains of a zoo for the SS families, just in front of the crematorium, just another metaphor of how blind people can become if not able to think for themselves. Practical information for visiting: there is a parking and a little cafeteria.
Monica P — Google review
Impressive to visit, unfortunately not all buildings are enterable. The scale of the place is breathtaking and the crematorium is the place that makes you want to hold your breath as you cannot image the horrors that took place in Buchenwald.
Jan E — Google review
A good designed memorial. Reminds how far the human cruelty can go. Sad, but a must-go-place to refresh the history in the mind. We had a great tour guide (her name is Franziska, i guess) even answered the most "stupid" or "easy" questions and explained every detail. I appreciated.

Historical place
The Mahnmal (Glockenturm) - Gedenkstätte Buchenwald stands as a poignant reminder of the harrowing history associated with one of Germany's largest concentration camps during World War II. This memorial site pays tribute to the countless individuals who endured unimaginable suffering and loss under the Nazi regime. Visitors can explore various exhibitions, historical documents, and preserved remnants of the camp, including watchtowers and barracks that evoke a deep sense of reflection on past atrocities.
Beautiful DDR memorial for the victims, imposing sculpture! Don’t skip this if u visit the rest of the area! The only problem is that the parking area for the Tower is a 10-12mins walk!
Pieter-Jan E — Google review
Lovely memorial to the nearby concentration camp. Its very GDR inspired, grand. Think bas reliefs. If you go, you'll probably be the only visitor, as most skip it and head straight to the camp. However, you should visit as there is some important events that happened there also, namely big graveyard pits. It offers a nice view over the surroundings also. Parking lot about 100 meters away.
Paul H — Google review
I didn't spend much time in the concentration camp itself (it is a concentration camp) but the memorial is fantastic, huge and worthy of spending time and investigating fully. I enjoyed cycling around the surrounding areas too.
Mgmpw32 — Google review
Massive memorial to those who suffered in the Buchenwald Concentration camp. This memorial is massive in size. Very well done.
Michael M — Google review
The size and scale of this exhibit say it all. The blank walls with no names too. But I feel some sort of info is needed, war stats. There are 3 mass graves, are these the 3 actual sites, estimating how many, why ,etc.
Keith S — Google review
This was a reminder of the atrocities that can happen when those who have voices choose to remain silent. Such a great memorial to symbolize and honor those who died and survived the concentration camp. May history never repeat itself.
Trung N — Google review
It makes the heart heavy to know what has happened here. I feel that the tower stands as a symbol of pain faced by people back then, the struggle for freedom, end of an painful era. I think everyone around has to visit it once to know how fortunate are we to live in such a peaceful environment now.
Katha G — Google review
This place is huge to visit and impressive, just as the crimes it stands for. The contrast between the beauty and the peace of the area and the horror it represents is breathtaking.

The Bauhaus-Museum Weimar is a dedicated space showcasing over 200 exhibits of modernist design, furniture, and art from the influential Bauhaus movement. Situated in a striking modern building at the heart of the city's cultural district, it offers a focus on the movement's early days in Weimar where it was founded in 1919. Visitors can explore works by Walter Gropius and his contemporaries and students.
Must-do in Weimar! Minimum an hour needed to see all the museum has to offer! Great pieces and history explained!
Catalina L — Google review
Love it! Studied art history, but learned so much more about Bauhaus. It is still relevant, and inspiring. A pity it only existed for a short period of time, although the influence remains.
Cindy O — Google review
The Bauhaus Museum Weimar is all about the history and cultural background of Weimar and the Bauhaus movement. If you’re interested in history or want to learn more about how design and architecture developed here, this museum is definitely worth a visit. Personally, I’m not really a history-loving person, but after visiting this museum, I got to learn a lot about Weimar’s past and its importance in art and design. It was an interesting and educational experience overall!
Sai G — Google review
A fantastic museum set in the heart of Weimar. We finished our weekend with a visit to this museum and were not disappointed. The building itself is a great modern block designed to house the collection of original pieces and to tell the story the Bauhaus school. There are three floors in total to see and also a basement level which includes a café and doors out into the park below. I would recommend it to everyone who wants to learn more about Bauhaus or has an interest in design/art.
T F — Google review
The museum is a bit overrated, but still five stars, because if you are in Weimar, you should spend a few hours there. The work of the Bauhaus was formative for various aspects from graphic design to the design of furniture, kitchens and housing estates.
Derik — Google review
Another great Bauhaus Museum. Possibly not quite as impressive as the one in Dessau but nevertheless a fitting tribute to the early years of the Bauhaus School when it was located in Weimar from 1919.
Roger M — Google review
I think the museum was fine. I personally don't think it's the most exciting art, but it was presented nicely and explained well. My main complaint is that one of the ladies downstairs was super rude to me for wanting to bring a small water bottle inside the museum on a hot day. I'm totally fine with not bringing water, but it must be possible to treat people nicely when telling them they have to put their water bottle in the locker.
Ripple E — Google review
The Bauhaus Museum in Weimar is an absolute gem for anyone interested in modern design and architecture. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, showcasing the pioneering works of the Bauhaus movement in a way that is both informative and inspiring. The museum's architecture itself is a nod to the movement's principles, with its clean lines and functional design. The staff are knowledgeable and welcoming, adding to the overall excellent experience. Whether you're a design enthusiast or just curious about the history of modern art, this museum is a must-visit. A true highlight of Weimar! PS. The VR ( Virtual reality) tour ( free of charge) on the basement is highly recommend! Thanks a lot to the team of the museum.

Shopping mall
Located on the northern edge of Weimar's city center, very close to the Bauhaus Museum, the Weimar Atrium is a vibrant shopping center offering a diverse range of stores, services, informal restaurants, and entertainment options. The mall features underground parking for visitors' convenience. Visitors can enjoy a variety of amenities including supermarkets, pharmacies, cinemas, and even a bowling center. The Atrium also boasts an inviting ambiance and friendly staff.
Title: A Charming Shopping Experience in the Heart of Weimar Review: The Atrium Mall in Weimar pleasantly surprised me with its diverse selection of shops, cozy atmosphere, and convenient location. As someone who appreciates both the thrill of shopping and the beauty of Weimar, I found the Atrium to be the perfect blend of both worlds. What sets the Atrium apart is not just its variety of stores, catering to every need from fashion to electronics, but also its inviting ambiance. The mall is well-designed, making it easy to navigate through its array of local and international brands. It’s a refreshing change from the oversized, impersonal shopping centers one might be used to. The food court at the Atrium deserves a special mention. With a selection of eateries offering both traditional German fare and international cuisines, it's a great spot to recharge after some retail therapy. The seating area is spacious and comfortable, allowing for a pleasant dining experience. Another aspect I appreciated was the cleanliness and maintenance of the facility. It’s clear that the management takes pride in providing a welcoming environment for shoppers and diners alike. The staff throughout the mall were friendly and helpful, adding to the overall positive experience. For those who appreciate art and culture, the Atrium occasionally hosts exhibitions and events that reflect Weimar's rich cultural heritage. It’s a nice touch that enriches the shopping experience with a dose of local culture. While the Atrium may not be the largest shopping center around, its charm, convenience, and selection make it a must-visit for anyone in Weimar. Whether you’re a local looking for a leisurely day out or a tourist seeking to indulge in some shopping, the Atrium Mall is a delightful destination.

The parking lot was convenient – I can easily find empty slot and park easily. It was a nice and clean building. The toilet was also clean. This mall has many of my needs such as groceries, fashion, electronics, restaurants etc. Hey they have bank also down on the ground floor.

I'm not a big fan of Malls but it's ok to have one in close proximity. There are many stores inside, all with good quality products, and very friendly and helpful staff. Ideal for a bit of window shopping 😜
Anastasios F — Google review
Everything is sorted and superior. Only thing is that they have to convey few things in english (i know its a Deutschland) because there are many tourists and new students who suffer the linguistic shock many of a time. But overall a worth of a place
Shamantha A — Google review
To be honest I didn't spend hours and hours in the mall, but that wasn't neccessary to notice the unfriendly, arrogant and aggresive workers at the Aldi Market. Not only did the woman in question insult me right in my face with racist comments, furthermore she read personal information of my friend's ID. This was truly unproffesional behaviour and thus I can not give the total a good rating. At best the other employees were pretty normal and not too irritating.

Zum Siechenbräu is an affordable and laid-back eatery that offers a wide range of delectable dishes. The menu primarily features regional favorites, ensuring a true taste of the local cuisine. Diners can enjoy the mouthwatering variation of gulash, which incorporates the Turinger klosse sausage for an added twist. Not to be missed are their flavorful ribs, prepared in the traditional German style.
What everyone else said. The place is atmospheric (ate outside on a balmy summer evening as a very cheeky water fountain played in the square), the food is excellent if a little on the salty side (Mutzbraten 🫠) and the house beer (I had the darker one 💯🉐) is tasty and refreshing. The service is perfect: no fake friendliness but a genuine and efficient welcome and good advice on food and drink. I didn’t have dessert but the house Bierschnaps was divine!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Excellent food, own beers, lovely atmosphere, nice people around! I tried Weimarer Zwiebelfleisch and all sorts of own brewed beer. Meet itself was a bit too much salted, but still perfectly cooked. Salad and Klöse - all perfect 👍🏼 great place
Oleksandr T — Google review
Best Thuringian food (and beer) I have had, it was extremely tasty. The waiter was exceptionally attentive. I fully recommend this place.
Jean-Pierre P — Google review
Most restaurants in this part of Germany that serve local dishes use too much salt in them. Not this place. Here they serve great tasting dishes and, not the smallest accomplishment, they have the best hefe weizen beer i’ve ever tasted: Siechn Weimarer. Go there, try it and you will be convinced. To make it even easier. This place is just one block away from the massive parking of the Weimar Atrium.
Johan G — Google review
Only accepts cash, ungirendly waiter rolling eyes, only 1 menu for 2 people

The food and beer were first rate but what stands out is the service extended to two weary foreigners. I believe it was the owner or manager who took care of us. He and his place are outstanding.

Fantastic Burger! Service was very friendly. Atmosphere is somehow simultaneously relaxed yet upscale. Would like to go back to try a steak next time I'm in Weimar.

The food is great but the chef unfortunately is very annoying. He is scaring away his customers by trying to make a "show" or being extra "nice" and "funny" or "easy cool" when really you just want to eat your food quietly and spend time with your date. Dear chef please stay in the kitchen, this is where you can shine. Very unfortunately

Highly recommended: this tiny but great place is where once you have one of the delicous burgers , you are bound to talk about it at least, and I am sure a second spontaneous visit here would always be nice. located nearly in the center of Weimar we loved the startes in an indian tasteful way and especially the Burgers . Coffee is also a worth to taste and the espresso is great. Recommended! A+

✨ I recently visited a cozy café in Weimar on my friend’s recommendation, and it was totally worth it! The atmosphere was so inviting, perfect for a relaxed morning. We tried a variety of treats, but the almond croissant was the highlight—absolutely delicious. I’m really happy I went, and I’d definitely recommend it. 🌿☕🥐

I‘m an Aussie and I love a good flat white. This is the best coffee I’ve had in all of Germany over the last 10 years, and I’m not exaggerating! Smooth froth, strong, tasteful, and even lovely latte art on top. The baked goods were delicious too! I only wish I lived in Weimar so I could give these people my money more regularly.

🌟 Brotklappe – A Hidden Gem in Weimar That Feels Like France 🇫🇷🥐 We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve visited Brotklappe – and for good reason. Every time something makes me feel happy or deserves a little celebration, this is the first place that comes to mind. It’s not just a bakery; it’s an experience. From the perfectly flaky croissants to the rich, flavorful sourdough and the deliciously herby focaccia, everything here tastes like it was lifted straight out of a Parisian boulangerie. Honestly, aside from Bordeaux and Paris, I haven’t found croissants this good anywhere else in Germany. There’s a certain magic to this place – the kind that makes you slow down, breathe in the aroma of fresh bread, and just smile. I truly love Brotklappe from the heart. It’s more than just a bakery to me – it’s a ritual, a little slice of joy. *If you find almond croissant, Just buy that. It was not available today but that's dman good one here!

Simply fantastic. We absolutely loved it. I lived in Weimar for quite some years and when we visited I had to go there immediately. I have to say it's even better than in the beginning. The buns, the croissants, the focaccia, coffee, chai latte... All extraordinary. The prices are a little bit higher than usual in Weimar, but they explain it very well in the shop and for the quality, it's absolutely worth it

A fine example of German bread culture. All of their breads and the spreads are amazing. Great quality. Vegan friendly options. A little pricey but worth the money. If you want coffee to go then prepare to have your own flask / mug or you need to buy refundable mug from there. And because of its popularity it’s very busy. Prepare to stand in line.

Park an der Ilm, a UNESCO-listed green space in Weimar, was established in 1778 and covers 48 hectares along the river Ilm. It is historically significant and showcases exquisite landscape design from the 18th century. The park features trails, monuments, classical temples, and sculptures designed by Duke Carl August with input from Goethe. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Haus am Horn, a prototype for German single-family homes located on a hill above the park.
Peaceful with no noisy playground, even cyclists are barred from most of it, so a secure place to walk and jog. Quite a few dog-walkers, but didn't see any receptacles for 'poo', so probably pick it up and take it with you..!

The park is wide and wonderful. There is a lot of nature, of wild animals and it is well-kept. There was a nice local food stand by the bridge and, most importantly, you could lose yourself in the green around. Only negative thing was a lack of WC facilities.

Interesting place from history. Very big and give many interesting information inside. In 2026 , they will close for the renovation so when you have a chance. Try it :) ticket costs 13 Euro in 2025

The Goethe museum costs pp € 13 pp. The Wohnung was to us the most interesting part. The other part of the museum contains many objects owned by Goethe among which several portraits. That part of the museum is definitely interesting but also has a somewhat hagiographic nature.

I really enjoyed this experience, especially having the app to lead you through the house was amazing. Genius to have it play when you hold your phone up to your ear! Also, the backyard was extremely beautiful and it really made you feel like you walked in the same house as Goethe, it was beautiful.

Goethe's House, or Goethes Wohnhaus, is a captivating museum that offers an in-depth look into the life of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The museum provides comprehensive insights into Goethe's personal and professional life, with well-curated exhibits that include original manuscripts, personal belongings, and detailed descriptions of his contributions to literature and science. The historical ambiance of the house, combined with the extensive information provided, makes it an enriching experience for visitors. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in German literature and the life of one of its most influential figures.

Very interesting life and he had a big house with many different rooms with specific purposes. Take the audioguide for sure, which is included in the ticket price. 1:30 to 3:00 to complete it depending how fast you go.

Nestled within the serene expanse of the Ilm Park in Weimar, Goethes Gartenhaus is a charming cottage that transports visitors back to the 18th century. This quaint abode served as both a residence and creative sanctuary for the renowned poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who penned several of his famous works here, including 'Erlkönig' and 'An den Mond.'
This dreamy place took me back in time and I loved each second of it! It feels like time has stopped still inside the house. A must-visit place for history lovers. The place is a true representation of Weimar as a cultural city. The blooming garden itself was a sight to behold! Each element of gartenhaus was perfectly maintained and looked after well.
Ramsha T — Google review
I found the place closed the day I had the time to visit and not even the beautiful garden was accessible. What a pity...
Sebastian R — Google review
I am giving 3 stars because: There weren't info about where the entrance was and about the house visit, it took a bit to understand where it was. About the location, initially was difficult to understand what to expect beyond the door, we went isnide and was the same. The cost to get into is pretty high compared to waht you can see and the garden pretty sad, nothing special ! People workign there are very kind !
Diego C — Google review
Audio guide was minimal. Not worth the 7€. Skip it and enjoy the Ilm Park.

Goethes Gartenhaus ist located in a wide park in the greens. Its a really relaxing place with a lot of trees like a park should be. Sad that they want entry for visiting the small house. Close by is a small river too. Everywhere in this park there are different cultural objects hidden like the Gartenhaus or a Shakespeare statue. I can recommend to spend some time there!

Haus am Horn is an experimental steel and concrete cubic house located in Weimar, Germany. Designed by Georg Muche, it is a significant precursor of modern living and a revolutionary representation of Bauhaus ideas. Built for the Bauhaus Werkschau exhibition in 1923, it was the first building to embody Bauhaus design principles, influencing 20th-century architectural and aesthetic thinking.
This Bauhaus house is a fascinating visit. Great value as one of 5 museums to visit on one admission ticket. Bauhaus museum is also on offer so go there for full information then enjoy the real building.

A lot of what you see here has been incorporated into our homes. It’s interesting to see how these Bauhaus design ideas have transformed the way we live 100 years later.

Worth visiting. We walked to the Music Academy, Pushkin monument and turned left to the Ilm Park and than reached Haus Am Horn. Personally fore me, It was stunning to see how Bauhaus School set a trend for such homes shortly after the First World War.
Taras R — Google review
Visited in July, I found it very interesting and worth to visit but a bit overpriced. Quick to visit, few explicatory panels, small house.
Monica P — Google review
I am really disappointed with this place. Very unfriendly staff who made me pay the full ticket only because I forgot my student card ( you could obviously see that I was a student). I had been travelling for ten days in Germany and unluckily forgot my student card at home, but all the places I have visited were very understanding and believed me. The price of the ticket (4,50 euro) wasn't worth the visit of the house. Five small rooms (kitchen, bedrooms, livingroom) all connected with each other and a small garden with some vegetables. Very few descriptions that you could easily read on the internet without paying the entry. The visit lasts from five to ten minutes maximum including reading the explanations. I highly do not recommend this place: Weimar has much better to offer.
Lara T — Google review
A wonderful model or prototype assembly of Bauhaus design, from architecture to furniture, then a modern life. Especially, the gentleman who can speak some Chinese as well at the recepiton was very helpful with the information of ticket and other sites worth visiting in Weimar, and very friendly.

Gasthaus “Zum Weißen Schwan” is a renowned restaurant with a rich history and a list of distinguished guests. Located next to Goethe's residence at Frauenplan, it offers an elegant ambiance and serves traditional Thuringian dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant has been known to host esteemed state guests visiting the city.
Nowhere else I would rather go for an evening meal in Weimar. Perfect to sit outside on the Frauenplan, the delicious food and wonderful ambience are enhanced only by the staff, who are extremely friendly and welcoming.
Alex C — Google review
Good food for a good price. Also nice to see a larger collection of food. So not just Bavarian, Italian, American, but a nice blend. Drinks are on the expensive side. Service was OK, but not spectacular. The waitress asking me if I could pay was kind of strange. Good location.
Jeroen S — Google review
Situated directly next to Goethe's house, we hoped this historic restaurant would be a good place for a traditional Thuringian meal. Sadly, the goose was tough, stringy and overdone. The potato dumplings, a regional specialty, were soggy and were also overcooked. The service was decent and the decor fine too.
Robert R — Google review
Nice location, directly at Frauenplan/Goethe house, and friendly staff. We were disappointed with the food though. I had Thüringer Klöße (dumplings) with goulash and red cabbage, which should be a nice local meal, but it was bland, salty and overcooked. It felt more like mass-produced ready-to-eat food (especially the sauce) than a restaurant-cooked meal.
Martina — Google review
Great and historic location. The staff is super friendly and does a great job. The food came a bit late but was delicious. They have typical Thuringa dishes and offer other choices as well. All in all a great place to spend an evening.⁸

We enjoyed eating outdoor in the summer here and looking at the people go by, but the inside of the restaurant is not less enjoyable, the food was good and the service friendly. Unluckily we sat too near a manhole from which a bad smell was coming up.

Pizza restaurant
I visited Pizzeria Napoli almost two decades ago when I was backpacking. It remains the most delicious pizza I have ever had. Although I can't recall the specifics of my order, I remember enjoying it alone on a bench in front of Schillers House, creating a cherished memory from that trip. While uncertain if I'll have the opportunity to visit Weimar again, if given a chance, I would definitely return to Pizzeria Napoli.
One of the best place to spend Friday evening with your loved ones
Joshua A — Google review
While the Napoli pizza (anchovies and capers) was quite tasty by nature, the Caprese pizza was very bland. The service was very friendly and we were seated nicely.
Yves P — Google review
The pizza was fine and the size was pretty great, however it lacked a little bit of flavor and spices, for the price of it you can go to Dominos and eat maybe two pizzas that will be just as tasty. Nevertheless it was a great place to have lunch right in the middle of the beautiful city center. The atmosphere is warm and cozy.
Rodolfo Z — Google review
Bland, unsalted food. Restaurant is saving on ingredients like meat & cheese. Carbonara was not creamy. Better go to the other Italian nearby, far better. This restaurant is not run by Italians.
Slava — Google review
I had a very unpleasant experience at this restaurant today. When I waved in a completely normal and polite manner to get the waiter’s attention for ordering, he approached me and lectured me in a serious tone, saying that this gesture is not acceptable in Germany because it supposedly resembles a historically controversial salute. I was honestly shocked — my hand gesture was absolutely innocent and common, not exaggerated or disrespectful in any way. I replied calmly, saying, “I understand, but I think maybe you’re being a little too sensitive.” The waiter then became quite personal and said he’s old enough to be my father, and I shouldn’t speak to him using “du” (the informal “you”), but rather “Sie” (the formal form), because we’re not friends. The conversation became uncomfortable, and I didn’t feel welcome at all. I ended up leaving the restaurant without eating. I couldn’t help but feel that I was treated differently — and worse — because I am a foreigner. It’s deeply disappointing and shows a lack of hospitality and openness, which is especially surprising in a service setting.

Not to much to add Really nice tasty food Just sad that I didn’t come with time as was a short visiting
Pp A — Google review
Only had the pizza here but the woodfire oven made the base of the pizza really good however what was on the pizza was bland. I got the capresse pizza. Which turned out to be extremely bland. The sauce no taste plus the toppings you would usually get such as olive oil, parmesano, salt, pepper and balsamico were not served with our food and when I asked for some it was taken from another table that just finished eating. Also we were only strictly able to order pizza, we arrived an hour before closing

Café-Restaurant ANNO 1900 is a charming eatery located in a former hotel's winter garden dating back to 1890, offering traditional German cuisine. Guests can choose to dine inside the cozy restaurant or enjoy their meal on the leafy patio. The menu features a delightful mix of international and regional dishes, with main courses ranging from grilled salmon and roasted wild boar to gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce.
We arrived unannounced and unbooked after a long day driving across Europe. We were shown table in the middle of a quite, well run and ideal eating area. The menu was brief but the varied choice was excellent. We were not sure on a starter, so the chef improvised for us. Brilliant. We were extremely happy with our gastronomic evening and would recommend and would return again in future. Thank you...☺️ Addition:- We were back here again for Christmas 2024 and nothing has changed. The service impeccable and the menu although brief gives a excellent variation of choice. A decent Italian red was the perfect partner, and we will return - again..!

We went to the restaurant yesterday and the waiter was super rude!!! We asked him if there are any tables we can sit at and he told us "Do you see any???" in a very aggressive tone and left! Cozy lovely place with a short selective Menu. They have some good vegetarian options but sadly no Vegan options. Still the staff helps in customising and putting a vegan meal. I tried Cauliflower cream soup and it was simply divine 🥹 one of the must go places if you find yourself in Weimar.

We’ve been to this place twice already, and it’s absolutely wonderful! 🌟 The omelet with sriracha mayo is a must-try, especially when paired with their sourdough bread — just marvelous, melting in your mouth and unbelievably soft. For desert- basque cheesecake only! Tripple recommended! The coffee is also really good, perfectly rounding out the meal. We loved the sourdough bread so much that we even bought it from the nearby bakery as a little souvenir to enjoy at home for a few more days. Highly recommend this spot — we’ll definitely be coming back!

We ate dinner here with our extended family last weekend (24.09.22). The building is very nicely renovated but the service we experienced was incredibly poor. We waited a very long time for my father-in-law’s meal to arrive and after waiting 10 mins from the time the rest of the plates had been served we alerted a waiter to the missing dish. The waiter disappeared without returning and 5 minutes later we then asked another waiter to investigate what was going on. After some minutes he returned saying the kitchen was very busy the cooks were stressed as the restaurant was full and they only had 6 burners to cook on. The second waiter then tried to appease the situation by apologising and offering other cold alternatives, at which point the first waiter returned with a replacement meal which had been hastily prepared. On inspection my father-in-law found that the liver dish he had ordered was completely raw, the second waiter then examined the plate and agreed it was unacceptable and returned it to the kitchen. As an alternative the waiter then offered my father-in-law a plate of cheese and ham and some bread (which we were subsequently charged 27 Euros for). By the time this cold plate was served half an hour had gone by and the rest of us had already finished our meals. The dishes we ate were all fine, but not particularly special, but you can imagine our collective disappointment at not being able to eat together, as this was meant to be a special occasion. Of course, mistakes happen but Gretchen’s restaurant is pitched as a high-quality venue not Burger King (and in fairness to Burger King I expect they might have handled the situation better). We won't be going back again because we don’t think the restaurant handled the situation professionally. Here's a few suggestions to avoid losing more customers should this happen again: 1. Check all the plates are served and the customers are content with what they ordered within a few minutes of the service being 'complete' (this didn't happen) 2. When a waiter is alerted to a problem, they should report back to the customer immediately (this didn't happen) 3. When the problem is identified, don’t blame your colleagues or the equipment (this did happen) 4. When you try to catch up and get the missing plate out do make sure it is properly cooked (this didn't happen) 5. When you are still flailing around after 30 minutes don't make any further excuses, get the customer anything they want within reason and tell them its on the house (this didn't happen) 6. When you prepare the final bill, try to be generous - even a small reduction or a free glass of wine or two (on a bill of several hundred Euros) would go a long way as an apology (this didn't happen). 7. This is an 'incident' where the manager or front-of-house should have made a formal apology - not just the waiter. (this didn’t happen) Mistakes happen, but it is how you deal with them that counts. Restaurants are not just selling food; they are selling an experience. This was an experience that could have been avoided, at every one of the steps listed above, and is one we would be very happy not to repeat.

The place is pretty nice. There is a castle where you can visit and pay like 6.5€ (as far as I remember). Inside the castle there is a lot of porcelain. You also get something like a phone and while walking into the castle, you can find more information about the rooms that you are visiting. Also, there is a big park with trees and flowers. Really good for a picnic day. As I noticed, if you are visiting only the park, you don’t have to pay anything. Totally worth it. I gave it 4 stars because inside the castle, there was a lot of “new” porcelain, not everything was authentic. When I planned to go there, I expected to see authentic things, not a porcelain museum.

Was a bit disappointed that a lot of the furniture was not on display, and most of the displays were of glass and china items... I would want to see the kitchen, the batrooms, you know? Intimate moments of their lives that we rarely get to see... But it's overall a very sweet, beautiful "little" castle.

The Museum of Prehistory and Early History of Thuringia, located in Weimar Castle, offers a captivating journey through time, spanning from the Paleolithic Age to the Middle Ages. With an extensive collection of prehistoric human remains, tools, jewelry, and detailed dioramas, this museum provides a comprehensive insight into 400,000 years of history. The exhibition area covers 1000 square meters and is complemented by the Thuringian State Office for Monument Conservation and Archaeology.
Really well done. While the later periods were what made me more interested in the museum, the prehistoric exhibits are top quality and include interesting demonstrations of technological change. The museum has its display text in German though there is also an audioguide in English.

It seems like a great museum - if you speak German. Nothing is in English which I wish I realised beforehand. With google translate, I could still get something from it, but it's hard to want to do this for any length of time.

This is an amazing place. It is a hidden jewel of information, impressions, ideas. It opens the double door into a new/ old timeless space. People are so easy to communicate to. Here you are walking on sacret ground. I coild not make it all. I need to come again. Thank you for opening up such a space for deep insights.

The Duchess Anna Amalia Library, also known as the Historical Library, is located in Weimar's Green Palace, a grand Renaissance building dating back to 1563. As part of the Weimar Classical UNESCO World Heritage Site, this ornate and restored library boasts a significant collection of historic manuscripts, books, and music. It houses over a million books including medieval signatures and some of Europe's earliest printed books.
This was an extremely beautiful part of Weimar that I'd recommend to anyone. You have to reserve a spot beforehand! And make sure you have the Weimar+ app downloaded so you can listen to all the explanations. Also, you'll have to wear slippers over your shoes to protect the floor inside the library, which makes total sense.
Ripple E — Google review
A beautifully restored and maintained library representing the decadence and thirst for knowledge of years past. It’s a great location and not too far away from the main shopping district in the old city. Entry is for a fee of roughly €10 per person and kids are free. You will be required to wear clumsy feeling slippers over your shoes to protect the old floorboards. There are set times when tours take place so maybe check the website before going. The library itself is a wonderful display of craftsmanship and eloquence. There are also many side attractions apart from the main room. The building also plays host to some travelling exhibitions and is also located above the more modern city library. There are small gifts available and plenty informative displays. I wouldn’t recommend small kids as they may get bored and make a lot of noise.
Andrew H — Google review
You have to buy tickets weeks in advance online if you plan to visit. We bought ours about a month in advance since the number of visitors per day is very limited. The visit itself was very disappointing. For the price of 8 euro per person you can only enter the Rococo library which turned out to be very very small. Everything is fenced and you can not go anywhere except walk a few steps further on the main aisle. Upper floor and all other side aisles are not accessible! There is no information regarding the library to read on spot! If you want to learn something, you have to have the Weimar tourist app pre installed on your phone and have headphones. The most ridiculous thing of all was the huge slippers we were given prior to entering. They are all one size (probably size 47-48) and women and kids with smaller feet have a big chance of tripping and falling down. This is absolutely ridiculous for the price of 8 euro! I do not recommend a visit! If you have 8 euro to spare, I recommend a visit to the Neues Weimar Museum instead which is much more interesting.
Maya N — Google review
High entry price for such a small amount of time to be spent there. Also everything is only in German. You don’t see anything more than the main pictures. You can’t go upstairs either. I wouldn’t recommend unless you are a big bibliophile Tickets are timed. I got lucky and got in on the next round since I was solo
Ninette — Google review
The library is worth visiting due to its historical significance and excellent maintenance. However, the front desk receptionist was quite cold and somewhat rude, which was disappointing. It would be great if they could be friendlier, considering it's a public place with many international visitors. While I understand language limitations, it's challenging when the staff doesn't speak English and is reluctant to communicate. In a tourist spot, especially a UNESCO heritage site, having bilingual staff would be beneficial. A warm and welcoming demeanor would also make a big difference.
Kohulan R — Google review
If you like books, art, history and knowledge this place will enchant you. Yes it is small, yes you can’t visit many rooms, yes the libraries in Dublin and Coimbra are more beautiful, yes €8 can seem a lot, still, it is a place of historical importance and if you allow that fact to sink in (Goethe and Schiller both stood there, where you will stand) you’ll be as touched as I was.
Patrice K — Google review
If you are a student in Jena or Weimar don’t miss out on this gem. Use your Thoska card to register and take out books. Not only is it a gorgeous study space, but they have a huge selection of English books too. I do a lot of research on line, however this library has books available that were not available the Thulb in Jena.
Cayly “ — Google review
The room is really beautiful, it's worth seing once in my opinion. Because of the system to buy a ticket for a 30 minutes slot, I thought the amount of people visiting at once would be limited. It was actually very packed so couldn't move around as freely as I would have wished (on a sunday around 11-12h) The employees were all friendly. Maybe a visit is more pleasant during the week days.

Thuringian restaurant
Zum Schwarzen Bären, a restaurant located in a restored 1500s building in Weimar, offers contemporary regional cuisine. Despite limited opening hours, the establishment's waitstaff is commended for their service. The restaurant exudes an antique ambiance due to its rich historical background. Serving local dishes at affordable prices, Zum Schwarzen Bären is known for its generous portion sizes. In April, a young couple took over the restaurant and have successfully maintained its quality and friendliness.
We arrived to Weimar on Sunday eve and one of the not many open places was this bar. Im thankful to waitress that served us food around 9.30pm, as we were hungry as hell. The place itself has centuried history, and this is what brings that special antique vibe into it. Food is super local, tasty and affordable. Beware: size of dishes is massive! my personal recommend: carrot/coconut soup 😌

On a touristy square, but nicely themed and nice interior with yes a lot of bears ;-). Pet friendly, our dogs immediately got a bowl of water. Service was fast. Nice menu, i did not know what to pick! Food was good, typical German :-) We hope to be back on our next visit to Weimar which is already in 2 weeks.

In April a young couple took over this wonderful restaurant and I must say they are doing a great job of it. Very friendly and if you have an extra request no problem. A menu with local dishes, and best of all local wines and beers. If you are in Weimar don't give this a miss.

Wine bar
Weinbar Weimar is an elegant wine bar located in a modern setting with an accompanying garden. It boasts an extensive selection of over 100 bottles of wine and serves a light cafe menu. The food at this establishment is exceptional, with every dish coming out of the kitchen being flawless. The cheese is the only item not made in-house, but the overall quality of the food more than makes up for it. Despite some considering it expensive, the exceptional quality justifies the price.
The best food, service and atmosphere we have had in Weimar! You can not miss this place if you visit Weimar! The place is busy so be sure to make an reservation.

The selection of wines is fabulous, the food excellent. I love this place!
Sebastian J — Google review
Deserves to be visited for the extremely good food, not to mention the extraordinary wine list which does of course cover the entire wall. I ate there both nights out of the 2 nights I spent in Weimar. I had 3 plates each night and only the cheese was not made in-house. It is extremely rare that every single dish that comes out of the kitchen is faultless, but this is the case here. I would be confident if I ate there tomorrow and tried the small plates I have not yet tried, they would all be good. Some say it is expensive but you get what you pay for. Three small plates with two glasses of wine for 38 euros I consider a bargain for this quality. Absolutely Recommended as a must visit in Weimar.

Mary's American Diner is a delightful gem nestled in Bad Langensalza, where you can savor a slice of American culture right in the heart of Germany. This charming diner boasts an extensive menu filled with classic American favorites like mouthwatering burgers, hearty sandwiches, and succulent steaks that promise to transport your taste buds across the Atlantic. The inviting atmosphere, complete with retro decor reminiscent of the 1950s and lively music, creates a nostalgic dining experience that’s hard to resist.

This is a nice cafe we had chocolate since today was freezing outside chocolate had a very good flavor but it wasn’t hot enough. My husband and I both order chili burgers and were disappointed, the sauce in the burger was overwhelming not so great even though it was spicy. The meat for the burger looked like it was boiled and then grilled. Other than it was a good service the girl who served was friendly and attentive. I would probably go back and try something else.

It gets worse each time I come to this place. The first time, it was great, almost perfect. But the more times I go there, the lazier the waitresses get, and the food... you can forget about it. The portion of fries is less than half (full price), and you can find white hairs everywhere in your food. Absolutely BON APPÉTIT. Never going there again.

McDonald's is a renowned, well-established fast-food franchise recognized for its hamburgers and French fries. While the coffee may not meet everyone's taste preferences, it can be improved by adding sweeteners, which is not typically preferred. However, the menu offers delicious food options. The drive-thru service is prompt and efficient, making it convenient for customers on-the-go. One notable highlight is an excellent double cheeseburger that satisfies cravings.

The manager this morning was unbelievable!! While I was paying at the register her two employees spoke to each other in English and to this she response was completely inappropriate! Saying “hier wird nur Deutsch gesprochen! Wir sind ja in Deutschland!” As someone who works in service I found this completely shameful! You can’t forbid someone from speaking their mother tongue. If she had explained to them that speaking German will help improve their German or that it could make customers uncomfortable I would not have found it offensive but in this situation it seemed much more like an insensitive racist remark. McDonald’s should be ashamed of putting a person in charge that would make comments like that.

Clean and tidy but coffee is as weak as you will find. Customer service not very good being a non german speaker but understood the coffee was "night gut" and just looked at me shaking their heads. F2f course it must just be me. No offer of a new one or a refund so just walked.

The Goethe-Schiller-Denkmal, a striking bronze monument established in 1857, pays homage to two of Germany's most esteemed literary figures, Johann Wolfgang Goethe and Friedrich Schiller. Really wanted to like this place. Took a seat and waited….and waited. Waitress with blond hair was drinking a glass of wine with friends at another table and too busy to serve anyone. I got up to get service inside, after waiting and , as she saw me go inside. she responded in German that she would be there when she was finished. OK, why didn’t you come over whileI waited? Too busy drinking with friends? Drink on your own time! A different waitress approached and started to berate me, in English, claiming her colleague was just talking with friends and not drunk on the job. Really! Ok. Good try. but your “colleague” never came over to serve me at all and you did! She had a wine glass in her hand and was drinking! I don’t care she’s drinking, I just want a drink! Then, the new waitress started complaining and berating me because I I placed the menu she gave me on a wet table after a rainfall . OK, do blame me? Clean the table. It’s your job . Where was I supposed to put the menu? Served my drink by a guy. Third person I saw. Where was my waitress? No tip. No food order. Never come again… Very Disappointed. I was ready to spend a lot of money having a good time but the mood was spoiled. Recommend the management supervise their personnel to make sure they are serving customers instead of drinking.

Very good beer and food. The pulled pork burger came with this nice stretchy cheese and dark, fluffy bun. Packed with flavor. Really recommend the fries with it as well - they were fresh and piping hot. The schnitzel was also good. Overpriced, underwhelming, and lost in translation. Unfortunately, the staff didn’t speak English and my German is… aspirational at best. Communication was a challenge, but sadly, so was the food. What we got was below average – and shockingly expensive. We paid €110 for three meals, and not one of us managed to finish even half the plate. That says something. Definitely not worth it, neither for the taste nor the price. I can’t recommend it.

Haus der Weimarer Republik - Forum für Demokratie, located at the former stage house on Theaterplatz, offers an engaging exploration of the complex history from 1919 to 1933. Visitors can immerse themselves in interactive displays, historical artifacts, and multimedia presentations to gain a comprehensive understanding of this pivotal period in German history. The museum serves as an important site for historical learning and reflection on the achievements and challenges of Germany's first democracy.
This is a great museum. There are English placards under everything. Well worth the €6 per person it is well worth it. Start with a short film then into the other exhibits. Great to learn about the time. Plan for over an hour on your feet.

Very impressive. It was already in 1918 /1919 clear that the Versaille Treaty was too heavy and burden for the German people. But when they amended that, French and Belgium troops occupied the strategic coal reserves in the Ruhrgebiet .....

Great place to learn about German history! I think this is is a very helpful and creative place. Loved the short movie especially, but the rest of the exhibition as well! It’s very good that everything there also has English translation. Highly recommend a visit! I think the interactive part where you are challenged to answer questions/ think about your view on democracy is also a great tool!

I would say that this is one of the most important museums in Germany at the moment. It shows how democracy works and how fragile democracy can be. There are parallels to today and to the rise of right-wing forces within politics. A must for every European citizen who is interested in keeping our freedom and liberty.

Very informative museum on the Weimar Republic and the history of Germany in the years between the two wars. They have a film and some pretty good exhibits detailing life in that period, the disgruntlement after the end of the first world war and the lead up to the second world war which is great to get an insight into that era. It all feels a little cramped though with too much information in one room. It would probably have been better to spread out the exhibits a bit, take up a little bit more space and make the experience easier to read and enjoy for the public.
Arani D — Google review
I just happened to notice this building as I was walking along the street and I'm so glad I did. I think I must have spent about three hours here. It provides a fabulous, informative and honest account of how the Weimar Republic came to be and then how it eventually met its demise. The regular exhibition is housed in a large hall that takes visitors clockwise around the room, with each section generally dedicated to a particular time period or category of events in chronological order. It provided really deep insights into the ambitions, political/social climates/contexts, etc of those times, and provides some amazing photos and video footage. It's very heavy on text but you can skip bits and pieces along the timeline if it's too much and you'll still probably have obtained some key insights. I read almost every bit, and I think I wore myself out! Every single bit of German text is accompanied by well written English translation and the videos have English subtitles where necessary so you absolutely get the same picture even if you can't read German. I exited the building feeling well informed. Best wishes!

What a stunning experience! This is one place not to be missed when visiting Weimar. Creative, succinct, informative, and using the latest techniques to inform us about the history of Weimar. Children will find this entertaining too. The gift shop is a gem! I found the best mug ever here.

I love the Museum experience here. Was there as the sole visitor that day. At first I was a bit afraid something would jump out but turns out the whole tour makes me understand history of Weimar with Goethe as a guide...that was an awesome memory! I will bring more friends next time 😁 Worth a visit definitely

Great for history enthusiasts interested in the Weimar Republic. Lots of information that could use a bit more space. Plenty of interesting tidbits of information too, like the cause of President Ebert's untimely death and Wolfgang Kapp's death mask along with his gruesome cause of death.

I learned everything I know about Weimar from this place lol! For someone who was ignorant of Weimars importance, history and it's influential figures the little 'walk through Weimar's history' was enlightening and fun! Nice souvenirs as well!

Nestled in the heart of historic Weimar, the Watzdorfer Geleitschenke is a delightful restaurant housed in a charming half-timbered building dating back to 1547. This inviting eatery offers an authentic taste of Thuringian cuisine, where guests can savor traditional German dishes amidst an ambiance filled with creaking wooden beams and jazz instruments. The on-site brewery provides fresh beer, while a diverse cocktail menu ensures that every palate is catered to.
A fantastic traditional Thüringen restaurant, tucked away in the centre of old Weimar. Plenty of seating inside and out and plenty of room for larger families and groups. The building has a stunning exterior with the old wooden framework and this is continued inside. The interior, the service and naturally the food were of highest merit and we would definitely go again. Everybody commented how good the food was, and there were no empty plates at the end! If you're in Weimar and want a special place to enjoy the finest local cuisine, then you can't go wrong here!

We had the opportunity to spend two nights here on our trip across Germany. The room was super spacious and the whole building was historical. Food was amazing with local dishes, great beer and friendly staff. Museums and sights within walking distance. 5/5 experience
Juha K — Google review
Excellent experience of traditional house with modern facilities. But the printed paintings in the room could have better taste. Weimar has such rich history resources and there are countless great fine arts in Goethe's Museum, what a pity.

Horrible restaurant service. I went for the first time, the restaurant was empty. We sat outside and waited for 15 minutes and no one came to serve us or bring a menu. We just got up and left. Tried again today as a group of 5 and was even worse. The waitress gave us 1 menu and didn't even clean our table (there were dirty glasses there from previous customers). We had to go inside to get more menus by ourselves when more friends arrived since the waitress never came back to our table. Then after sitting and waiting for 15 minutes with no sign of waiters coming outside to get our orders we just decided to leave again. If you value your time just avoid this place.

Wonderful located in an ancient half-timbered house in the center of Weimar, this restaurant offers a tasty cuisine with the best regional products. The Rinderrouladen (beef rolls) and the dumplings are amazing. The service is friendly and professional.
Simonpietro C — Google review
I found this lovely place walking in the old town of Weimar. The timber building was beautiful and several floors were available. It must be a fun place in the evening when it is full of people. I had lunch sitting outside. Service was prompt and the food was fresh and delicious. The waitress was very nice and attentive. The beer was good, so I had two.
B S — Google review
This is an excellent bar and restaurant with a good range of Thuringia regional dishes. The beef roulade is excellent and if dumplings are not your thing then you can substitute other forms of potatoes. The staff are friendly and efficient. Their beer is also excellent. The venue is a stunning and well restored building. WiFi is available inside. Recommended.

Nice location, but the saltiest food i ever had in my life. Also, the waitress was quite rude, she seemed to be annoyed by every single question i made. This may be a German thing, as it had happened over and over in different cities and restaurants, but still...

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Weimar, Pomodoro is an Italian gem that consistently impresses. This charming restaurant boasts a welcoming atmosphere, where friendly staff cater to your every need. Food was amazing, tried the dishes of the day: tagliatelle oktopus and pizza messina. Tiramisu is pretty decent, perfect for chocolate lovers. They were really nice and served us food after 10 pm. 10/10

Pomodoro is a nice Italian restaurant located in the heart of Weimar. Sitting outside watching the plaza is a great experience. I started with the Caprese Bruschetta which was tasty, I wish there was more mozzarella on it however. For the entree I had the Pennete Rigate Corte d Assisi which was very good. Nothing really blew me away but the service was good and the location is superb. I had a cappuccino at the end of the meal which was well made.

Pizza was really good and wine was much above expectations. The food preparation time is really fast and you can directly see your pizza being baked in a stone oven. Little drawback - the number of waiters and working experience of some of them could be better. But overall - very good 😊
W T — Google review
Delicious pizza and pasta. Pasta was already brought to the table 10 minutes before the pizza. The young man who helped us was the hardest worker of all employees but what was he grumpy. At least a lot of chairs on the terrace were obsolete, due a full terrace, some customers were very uncomfortable because there were no good chair's left.

Tiefurt Mansion and Park, once a summer residence, was transformed into an intellectual salon by Duchess Anna Amalia for the Weimar literature society. The 23-hectare garden is adorned with memorials like the Herderstein, the Temple of the Thinkers, and the Tea Room. While access to the castle may be restricted due to COVID-19, visitors can still enjoy biking through the expansive and picturesque park. The park also provides access to Schloss Kromsdorf.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t explore the castle due to covid restrictions but nevertheless I enjoyed riding a bike in the park. It’s big and very beautiful. You can also get to Schloss Kromsdorf trough this park which is also worth visiting :)

Evangelical church
St. Jacob's Church, located in Weimar, Germany, is a remarkable example of late Gothic architecture. The church and its surrounding small cemetery are among the oldest places in the area. Visitors can climb to the top of the church tower for a fantastic view, although the steep and narrow wooden staircase may be challenging for some. The cemetery features interesting graves, including those of Goethe's wife and Lucas Cranach the Elder.
Quaint wooden church with access to the watchman's appartment en route when climbing the tower. It is a way's up but worth it for views in all directions. Sadly the organ is non functional but I am looking forward to hearing music performed in this space. Don't forget to visit the grave of Lucas Cranach the elder in the beautiful garden like cemetery.

The baroque, single-nave church was built in 1713 on the orders of Duke Wilhelm Ernst. The neoclassical furnishings of the galleries and the sarcophagus of the English painter Charles Gore are interesting. The small cemetery outside the church contains the graves of the painter Lucas Cranach the Elder, the writer Musäus, and Goethe's wife Christiane. Friedrich Schiller was buried in the pavilion known as the Kassengewölbe (cash vault) in 1805. From the tower, you can enjoy the most beautiful view of the city. La Tarte is a French restaurant located in Weimar, Germany, offering classic French dishes such as tartes flambées and steak frites. The restaurant is known for its cozy terrace in the backyard and friendly service. Customers have praised the delicious food, with one reviewer mentioning that dining at La Tarte felt like being in a restaurant in Paris. The restaurant's interior is suitably furnished and typically French decorated, providing a charming ambiance for diners.

It was very nice experience at the restaurant. The steak was perfectly cooked. The freshly handmade fries were delicious. I couldn’t take pictures as it was too good to wait for a photo. The dessert was absolutely perfect. Amazing service. Will definitely be coming back
Anwar A — Google review
A bit disappointed, I came here for 6 years and somehow the experience slowly decreased in satisfaction mainly regarding the service: 1st of all the menu is full of french orthographic mistakes, which I think is REALLY sad for a french restaurant... Pretending that Chorizo is french is surprising. My last experience was definitely the worse: I ordered the "panier de poissons", which was extremely salty, Cutlery was broken and nobody seem to care. At the desert time I even experienced that some food was missing in my plate compared to what was announced in the menu, the waiter pretended I was wrong and that was not on the menu without either checking the menu. How come waiters cannot even know what is written of the 2 pages menu of the restaurant they work for? I am sad to write that is definitely not an experience you could have in any restaurant of this range in France
Emilie C — Google review
One of the big disadvantages of living in Germany is the pervasive ignorance of l'onglet -- aka hanging tender, aka butchers' cut. In my view, it's the best steak. I had to try it at La Tarte when visiting Weimar. At first glance, I was underwhelmed; the meat looked overcooked and the servings of haricot verts and gratin potatoes were less than ample. But OMG! Everything was SO delicious. The onglet, while not as pink as I thought I wanted, was perhaps the most tender I've ever tasted. The gratin was a perfect balance of cheese and potato; the haricot verts, the thinnest I've ever seen, were perfectly cooked and salted. I may have to move to Weimar.

This is a very beautiful restaurant in the middle of a historical place and beautiful nature; The chef and staff are super friendly and inviting, food is great, the portion is big, the atmosphere is designed nice and warm. It's a historical beautiful place, if you want to be in nature, or don't want to go back at night after the party downstairs; Good choice if you stay one or two nights macimum, with shared bathroom and kitchen for several rooms. It has long stairs and you better not to take heavy luggages. the nature around is so beautiful and the restaurant is so elegant, but it clised some days, so better to check before you go. the bus stop is within 4 minutes walk.

This is the second time I have been to this restaurant and it is my favourite place in all of Weimar. It was recommended to me by some locals - and quite right. I went to 10-15 venues in and around Weimar and this is our clear favourite. Absolutely stunning setting (Tiefurt and the river are gorgeous - worth the walk from Weimar) and the food is truly fabulous. We are vegetarians and I would strongly recommend the (vegan) curry and the tagliatelle are amazing. I would also like to mention how friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming the team are, most notably Eugene. I would recommend this restaurant to all our friends and family. Definitely one of not the best restaurant within the Weimar region. Also outstanding value. Eugene - thank you. We will back soon

Cozy warm place for great German food and beer. They have a big variety of Thüringer Kloß. I was really impressed by the flavors. Congrats to the chef!

Probably in my top five best dishes I ever ate in Germany, after being here 10 years. I had the Rostbrätel and potatoes, and it went beyond my expectations, absolutely delicious. The service was also extremely friendly and polite, and English speaking as well. I will definitely make this my place to go to when I come visit Weimar!

I loved the place! Food was great, portions very generous (too large for myself and kids and even for my hubby - he said although managed it 😉 staff couldn't speak English but compensated very well with politeness and friendliness. Decor and music were definitely my cup of tea. Couldn't pay with a card and it was a bit pricey (hence 4 stars) but overall very happy with what we got :)

friendly service but we have a feeling that the prepared food was mainly frozen? it was nice food but not the best :-/

Nestled in the heart of Weimar, directly across from the majestic castle, lies ACC Cafe Galerie—a charming eatery housed within a historic 400-year-old Renaissance building. This artistic café is part of the vibrant cultural center known as ACC and offers an enticing array of vegetarian and vegan dishes. From roasted flatbread topped with arugula-olive cream and goat cheese to a warming carrot-ginger soup perfect for a light bite, there's something for everyone.
delicious, hearty, local and creative dishes are coming your way. Quality - price very good & most definitely a lot of originality and thoughtfulness in setting up the menu. Cosy inside and nice staff - ate twice, once we has to wait a bit for the food but it was totally worth it. Coffee also great. Wholesome place in Weimar.

Lovely food, people and atmosphere. I tried carrot ginger soup and Pesto Pasta. Both were good. And the Vegan Pumpkin cake was delicious.

We've found this restaurant from Google Maps and interested to check in here because of many good reviews. And I've found those many good reviews were right. If you’re looking for a nice and friendly place to have a good discussion and good dinner surrounded by heritage atmosphere, served by a very nice waiter with plenty of good food and good coffee blends, clean toilet and reasonable price, this is it, I would recommend this place to you. Me and my wife had dinner here from around 5pm up until 10pm. We discussed from A to Z, back to A again and to Z again and again..

Really liked this for lunch. Worth a visit! The service was good and so was the food. Nice to sit outside. Had dish of the day. It seems like a place the locals steps by. It was gourmet but either was the price.

The staff is very friendly and the food is very good. The cakes from the Aviv Koriat Kuchenmanufaktur are excelent, and they even has bio-vines. Go and see the exhibition in the gallery also.

New favorite spot in Weimar. Their rabarber lemonade is the best. Cheap to eat the delicious dish of the day. Can’t wait to go back.

The best part about this place, besides the fact that it serves the biggest hot chocolate in Weimar, is that it is student friendly. So you don't have to worry that they'll ask you to leave if you start doing your homework there. Also, they have an outdoors seating area.

We went here on our team off-site event for dinner. The food was good but not mind blowing. The service wasn't tue fastest and they gave me a half empty bottle of water but quickly rectified their mistake. I would probably look for another place to eat next time I'm in Weimar but not because of the food or service, only because I like variety.
