Theaters
Nestled in the charming city of Bayreuth, Germany, the Margravial Opera House stands as a magnificent testament to 18th-century Baroque architecture. Constructed between 1745 and 1750 by renowned architect Giuseppe Galli Bibiena and his son Carlo for Margravine Wilhelmine of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, this opera house is celebrated for its opulent interior adorned with exquisite woodwork and breathtaking frescoes.
Beautiful! Beautiful and again Beautiful place! Very affordable, interesting exposition about history of the theater. Really worth visiting. There is WC (you don't have to buy ticket for that). Note, that you can't go with your backpack and it has to be stored so keep 1 euro coin to lock the locker
Evgeniia — Google review
Beautiful opera house and super interesting museum. Kids (10,7,5) loved it. There is a special riddle game for kids to and some interactive pieces in the museum - we spent over 2 hours there.
Katharina S — Google review
From the outside you could mistake it for any other old tenement house. Inside it's the most impressive opera I have ever seen, worthy of UNESCO title for sure. The visit to the Opera is limited to ground floor seats and a view from one of the lounges (unless you go with the guide) after that it's a modern museum, which is also quite interesting and has a miniature scene with which you can play. You can't bring any bags even the smallest ones, cabinets are downstairs for 1euro you get back. I wish someday to visit a play here since it has to be magical.
Maciej P — Google review
The entry ticket was 10€, but IT'S ALL WORTH IT! The Stage was just beautiful, it's like stepping into the past and it makes you wonder how ugly Art in our present day has become.

What a great visit, we had a English tour with Johan she was so helpful, informative and very funny with great anecdotes =) It was a wonderful visit and beautiful Opera hall and historical experience to learn and experience Bayreut =) Highly recommend the visit and tour =)

Beautiful place, and our English language tour guide was a very nice young man.
NZAURUSS — Google review
We visited Bayreuth Opera House with friends from Italy, full of excitement to see this UNESCO World Heritage site. The historical and artistic value of this cultural landmark is very important to us. Unfortunately, our experience was quite negative. While tour groups accompanied by guides were allowed to freely go upstairs and sit in the seats, we – as independent visitors – were repeatedly warned by staff at every step. Even though we did not break any rules, one staff member in particular kept telling us “don’t touch” in an insistent manner, which felt both unnecessary and discriminatory. At the same time, other tourists in the same areas received no such warnings, making it clear that we were treated unequally. We shared our concerns with the staff at the entrance, not only for our own sake but also as important feedback to help improve the visitor experience for such a significant cultural heritage site. Unfortunately, our complaint did not seem to be taken seriously. This attitude is unworthy of such a valuable cultural monument and its visitors. I felt disrespected and singled out, and it ruined the enjoyment of our visit. I sincerely hope that this kind of discriminatory treatment will end, and that all visitors will be treated equally and respectfully.
Merve I — Google review
One of the most charming theatres I’ve yet to visit. They have renovated it in a way that would show original faded colours of the interior. A must see if you’re in Bayreuth.

The Hermitage New Palace, also known as Neues Schloss, is a historical gem left by Wilhelmine in Bayreuth. After the old palace was destroyed by fire in 1753, a more grandiose replacement was constructed while the couple traveled to Italy. Despite financial constraints, this palace stands as a testament to opulence and elegance. The palace and its surrounding park offer an ever-changing spectacle throughout the seasons, making it a delightful destination year-round.
built in the middle of the 18th century as a summer residence for the Margrave couple. im form of a half circle with golden figures and statues. decorated with precious stones and facing a huge fountain, activities for family take place here but its not actually a museum or a castle to visit. its like a gate to the gardens and the old castle. cafes, wc and game rooms are now here.
David A — Google review
The most impressive building in the whole complex. Beautiful architecture, decorated with colorful stones and golden busts. There is also quite a big fountain with beautiful stone sculptures, unfortunately it wasn't working when we were there.

The Hermitage Old Palace in Bayreuth is a historic and extensive complex featuring various water features, artificial ruins, and a magnificent sun temple. Visitors can explore the city's museums, landmarks, parks, and gardens including the Eremitage and the Hofgarten. The guided tour of the palace offers an immersive experience with captivating stories from its past.
I didn't have time to visit the inside, which apparently is also quite amazing. However it is beautifully combined in the park with cascades from the water front. Especially interesting are the sides which look like they are carved from stone.
Maciej P — Google review
the old summer residence for the Magrave famous couple and the local rulers. only visited by guided tour. water game at the beginning and then a series of rooms inside which paintings and antiquities are available to see. in each room an employee tell you the story of the room design but you're free also to discover it alone and take pictures.
David A — Google review
I visited on a rainy Friday morning and walked virtually alone through the vast gardens, awestruck with the beauty of man, nature and time. Among the highlights are striking allees flanked by hornbeam hedges, some quite mature. Beautiful walks, water features, flower plantings, mature tree specimens, linden promenades. Meticulously cultivated and worthy, worthy, worthy of your time.
Paul B — Google review
Perfect attraction for even a difficult traveller. Unfortunately we visited this extremely beautiful place on a raining day but the beauty of it can't stop us unconditionally enjoying our very good time with the nature and manaficent design.
Ngoc N — Google review
The outside green field and garden are beautiful and free. But you must go into the palace. It is a hidden gem.
Angela T — Google review
A beauty. Once must visit. Really nice guides and palace. But visit during June July months to get entry into more rooms of the palace
Aparna U — Google review
You need to get tickets for the tour of the castle and the tour is 1h long, but really worth it. The lady, who was our tour guide was excellent. She really transported us back in time while telling us the important stories of the palace. The 1 hour flew by. The palace is not like your usual palace, but it feels more like a residence / home with hidden secrets. I definately recommend booking a tour (we had the tour in German). It is also not that expensive.

Park
Eremitage, also known as the Hermitage, is a stunning 18th-century palace surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens located on the outskirts of Bayreuth, Germany. Originally a gift from the margrave to his well-educated princess, it was later expanded by her to include additional fountains, the Temple of the Sun, and an orangery. The palace and its picturesque gardens offer visitors a serene setting for leisurely walks, picnics, and photo opportunities.
Really nice garden for sightseers and pass 3 hours with family. Well maintained, though the water fountains were closed and covered during winter time. There is a big parking for free beside the garden.
Tadib J — Google review
April is not the best time to visit. Fountains are not working. Beautiful garden - bare sticks. Architecture is amazing. Will definitely come here in season.
Svetlana Z — Google review
Sunny spring day. Wonderful views, flowers. Fantastic park. Delicious pastries and coffee on a fair price.
Ana D — Google review
We visited the Eermitage because we love palaces, and especially the gardens surrounding them. Before arriving, we carefully reviewed maps and websites, checking the attractiveness of the place in terms of landscape architecture, both large and small. Upon arrival, we were shocked; what we saw exceeded our expectations and imaginations. I'll start with the convenient and spacious parking lot right at the park entrance. Beyond the gate, a different world begins: a world of paths, water, fountains, and secluded romantic spots. The new palace, the old palace, the Chinese pavilion, the orangery, the dragon's cave, lakes, streams, waterfalls, canals, and many other charming and beautiful places, all nestled among the greenery and miles of park paths. The entire experience captivated us. The park is very extensive, and we got a little lost, traversing some of the paths several times. Although there are information boards and signposts, we felt they were a bit lacking. A brochure with a park map would have been very helpful. The parking lot lacked a designated spot for a camper. We visited the park in May and will definitely return in the fall because it's a beautiful, charming, interesting, and noteworthy place.
Uplander G — Google review
Beautiful grounds a short drive away from Bayreuth. Spend a few hours wandering around very peaceful and serene landscapes and enjoy watching the fountains (be careful with the grotto or else you'll get wet when those fountains start!). There is a cafe on site for food and drink as well. Free entry and also plenty of free parking available.

Luber I — Google review
(Translated by Google) It's a great place to go with friends if you want to have fun in nature. It's not exactly dirty (except for the lake, a little). If you have children aged 3-10, you can let them play at the water playground or other play areas, like the one next door. And if you're staying longer, you can also get an ice cream from the small snack stand. There's also some exercise equipment for teenagers who want to try something new, for example. And you can also go for a walk in the morning, or jog if you live near the park. Or you can even take the kids to see the animals. Why 4 stars? 5 stars would be a bit ambitious. That doesn't mean I don't recommend it. If you fit into one of those categories, you could stop by.

The Margrave Fountain, located in Bayreuth and inaugurated in 1705, is a stunning example of Baroque artistry. The centerpiece features an equestrian statue of Margrave Christian Ernst adorned in magnificent armor. Surrounding the central figure are sculptures symbolizing rivers that originate from the Fichtelgebirge. Additionally, figures representing the four continents known at the time adorn the fountain, creating a harmonious ensemble.

(Translated by Google) The Margrave Fountain in Bayreuth, inaugurated in 1705, features an equestrian statue of Margrave Christian Ernst as its central figure. It is surrounded by four groups of figures that symbolize the rivers that rise in the Fichtelgebirge. The fountain is located on the Residenzplatz in Bayreuth, flanked on both sides by lawns with baroque-style flower beds. Margrave Christian Ernst had this fountain erected as a memorial for his participation in the liberation of Vienna from the siege by the Turks in 1683. He, who is said to have “conquered a Turkish horsetail with his own hand,” returned from the campaign with rich booty and the title of Imperial General of the Cavalry.[1] The sculptor Elias Räntz made the decorative fountain between 1699 and 1705 on behalf of Margrave Christian Ernst. When it was inaugurated, the facility stood in the outer courtyard of the Old Palace and was moved in 1748 to the riding arena, an open space west of the Hofgarten at the gates of the city. The New Castle, which today forms the background of the fountain, was built later. When the fountain was built, no consideration was given to the original orientation of the figures, so that today their position no longer corresponds to the cardinal points that they symbolize.

(Translated by Google) The fountain figures represent the four continents known at the time and also represent the four rivers that rise in the Fichtelgebirge and flow in all four directions. The ensemble is harmonious, the space is mostly quiet. However, you can also play boules on the gravel paths (which is very unusual for the country).

We visited this place with our dog! So dogs are allowed in this place. 🫶🏻 It has a lot of birds like 🦚peacock and different cranes and animals like deer and ram. The ram 🐏 is very friendly and wants to be petted! So a wonderful park if you’re looking to engage with animals. The park has a lot of beautiful trees and a muddy colored small lake. It’s kid friendly as before the animal park starts, there is a big kids playground. This is a nice weekend outing destination if you live in the city and feel like escaping in nature. 🥰 There are also no entrance fees.
