Haraldshaugen, located 2 km north of downtown Haugesund, is a significant historical site in Norway. It comprises four important monuments: the burial mound, stone cross, church site, and the National Monument (Haraldsstotta), which was unveiled in 1872 to commemorate King Harald Fairhair's unification of Norway.
Very interesting site, well worth a walk to through the pretty back streets. On a beautiful day there is a longer walk along the coast.
Carl B — Google review
Haraldshaugen is located in Haugesund, just beside the city center. It is a historical monument celebrating the unification of Norway as one kingdom. At the top, you will see a nice coastal view. There is also a campsite nearby and trails for walking.
PaFer — Google review
We had a brief stop at the unification memorial on our tour of the city. The monument is prominent, and makes for a good photo stop. Came here on the hop on hop off bus there's a 10 minute photo stop so you don't get long unless you want to wait for the next bus. You could get on the coast pass and have a walk. The view is nice from here
Keith D — Google review
Remember to take a walk to see the goats! The white horses are about a 10-15 min walk down a path up and down! Views are nice!
Craig E — Google review
Very cool to see and some great walks along the water front. Highly recommend the walk as there’s lots of little treats to discover along the way.
Shaun C — Google review
Must visit if you love history. And make sure you take a walk on the coastal path, it’s gorgeous out there.

Norways National Monument. Free to visit. Signifying the unification of Norway. The coastal walk along here is very picturesque with lots of sea craft coming and going, recommend going up to the rising tides sculpture just up the coast from here also.

Haraldshaugen Camping AS is a charming camping site located in a small town, offering proximity to local amenities such as a pocket mall for groceries and dining options. The facilities are meticulously cleaned multiple times a day, ensuring a pleasant environment regardless of the weather. The coastal terrain surrounding the campsite provides ample opportunities for leisurely walks and scenic views. Depending on the season, visitors may even have the chance to interact with a small herd of sheep.
Very pleasant campsite! The camping spots closest to the coastline have a stunning view. In very close proximity of a supermarket and with the city center in walking distance. Surrounded by nature, which allows for nice hikes/walks. Very, very clean sanitary facilities! The cleanest we have encountered so far, even. Kudos to the staff! The staff is very friendly and helpful. If we are ever in the area again, we will certainly stay here a second time.
Kim S — Google review
A fantastic campsite with excellent amenities and very very clean. Reception staff (Adrian) very friendly and helpful. 30 minutes walk into Haugusund Town Centre, which is a must. Norways National Monument is next to the site and a beautiful coastal walk that leads you to The Rising Tide Sculptures is against the campsite via a good safe path.
Diane W — Google review
What a lovely, beautiful campsite! I absolutely loved everything on this place. Very nice welcome, reasonable price where everything was already included. Had a nice quite spot for my tent apart from the caravans. There is a nice cooking space and a lovely dining area/tv room to sit in. Although the campsite was quite full, everyone was calm and quite and respectful. Sunset was incredible! I would definitely come here again!
Franziska — Google review
Easy check-in, a very accommodating team. There is a clean little laundry room and a small kitchen. At the end of the campsite their is a cute little glass box with two tables to enjoy the ocean view and sheep. There is a large community room to eat, play games or meet other friendly campers. We loved the spot and we would definitely stay here again!
Leona G — Google review
Receptionist was nice and welcoming and gave us recommendations for a spot to park our vehicle since it was quite windy on the night we stayed. Slightly expensive and showers included. Toilet and showers were extremely clean with staff cleaning it frequently
Nivetha — Google review
This camping is an example for all campings. Perfect conditions, perfect spot. No fixed amount for electricity, you pay what you use. The coastal path with amazing views is a delight.

Excellent accommodation, helpful reception, reacheabke by phone also, beautiful view and environment close to the sea, nice for a walk.

Very friendly people at the reception, helpful and accommodating. Nice plots, as a solo traveller on a motorbike I got a nice little spot on a small hill, overlooking the rest of the campsite and onto the sea. Some of the cleanest facilities I have ever experienced on a campsite. Grocery shopping can be done within walking distance.

The King Harald I Fairhair statue in Haugesund is a favorite spot for many visitors. Just a 5-minute walk from the city center, it offers a beautiful view of the canal and the city's attractions. The statue is located near a bridge that provides stunning views of the surroundings. Visitors appreciate the lovely statue and enjoy taking in the picturesque scenery from this lookout point.
It's a nice place to visit when you take a walk along the coast.
Myroslava S — Google review
It's okay, a couple of photos, and you are essentially done. Decent walk from the ship though, unless you take the sightseeing bus, which drops you off/picks you up adjacent to the small park and school approx 100 yards away.
Graham D — Google review
A striking tribute to Norway's first king! The King Harald Fairhair statue stands proudly overlooking the sea, and you can really feel the sense of history in the air. It's a peaceful and scenic spot, with great views and a lovely surrounding park. There’s also some informative signage nearby if you want to learn more about Harald Fairhair and his role in uniting Norway. Well worth a visit if you're in Haugesund—both for the photo op and the quiet moment of reflection.
Russell H — Google review
Very nice statue. The view is fantastic as well.
Laguz E — Google review
A pleasant walk from the port to this location. Unfortunately, there's only one bridge crossing from where the cruise ship docks, and that bridge is a little mountain to climb! It's worth the walk, though, as it's a lovely location with great views.

Simple but significant historic & cultural statue in the city centre area. Easy walk providing panoramic views. Not a lot of information provided at site.

Aneta P — Google review
Harald Fairhair statue, a monument dedicated to the first King of Norway. The statue itself is a striking piece of art, capturing the grandeur and legacy of Harald Fairhair. It stands tall and majestic, offering a fitting tribute to a figure of such historical importance. It is 20 minutes walking distance from the national monument, and both should be visited. I was surprised to see that there were no plaques or information boards near the statue, so I looked up the history myself.

Take a stroll around Haugesund's historic district and you'll come across Vår Frelsers Church, a prominent and easily recognizable landmark that towers over the city skyline. This stunning church, both inside and out, is worth exploring beyond just snapping photos of its exterior. It boasts an elegant Gothic style with well-maintained wooden and brick elements. Erected in 1901, according to the plaque, it exudes peacefulness and grandeur befitting a cathedral.
Busy little church. Free to visit. It has some stunning stained glass. And is just a 13 minute walk from the Cruise terminal.

A beautiful and peaceful church in the heart of Haugesund. Vår Frelsers kirke is a lovely example of traditional Norwegian architecture, with its red brick facade and striking interior details. Whether you're attending a service, enjoying a concert, or just stopping in for a quiet moment, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The stained glass and woodwork inside are truly worth seeing. A calming spot that adds so much charm to the town.

Marilyn Monroe Statue

In the Norwegian town of Haugesund, there's an unexpected sight: a statue of Marilyn Monroe. This seemingly random tribute is tied to the fact that Monroe's father hailed from this area before emigrating to the United States. The statue, located near the sea and port, may seem out of place but adds a touch of whimsy to this picturesque town.
While on a cruise we heard there was a statue of Marilyn Monroe in this particular port. Our plan for the day was to take public transportation around the city and walk a bit. Coincidentally our Hostess on the ship had a tattoo of Marilyn on her arm. When she heard we were going to the statue, she also went to see it. The statue is located in a scenic spot (boardwalk) along the river where you can dine and view the statue. A bit nostalgic to see and take photos. We weren’t the only ones taking photos, but only took a few minutes to take our own.
L C — Google review
Well what can I say...... its a statue of what resembles Marilyn Monroe..... I have seen better statues in a £ shop 😂
James E — Google review
A little random... Not sure what the point is, but it's nice to celebrate icons I guess :)...Not something that needs more than a two-minute visit imo
Rob W — Google review
Nice walk to the statue which is in a nice area. Worth the walk from the cruise ship for a photo
Gareth T — Google review
Statue of the famed blonde bombshell via the marina. It is said to be "a tribute to her Norwegian heritage, as her father, a baker, is believed to have emigrated from the area to the USA" according to the web.
Palmer V — Google review
You may wonder why? Why is there a statue of Marilyn Monroe in the middle of Norway? Well, her Dad was a baker in the town and then immigrated to America, and subsequently fathered Norma. A nice little tribute
Oliver B — Google review
This is a lovely place to visit when you are in Haugaund. I visited a few times now and feel I have to touch her foot and make a wish. It's a beautiful place with lovely views. If you are in town I highly recommend visiting Marilyn and saying hello. Fun fact it is believed that her father was from this town.
Kitty P — Google review
Basic statue on the shoreline between a hotel & construction site, is not a glamorous location. The statue itself is OK, even though any link Marilyn had with Haugesund is tenuous at best & it seems likely erroneous. Even so it remains on the tourist sites list.

Djupadalen, located in Haugesund, Norway, offers stunning vistas and a variety of wildlife such as deer, hares, minks, and birds. The hiking trail may be challenging for beginners but the view makes it worth the effort. Eivindsvannet Lake is a peaceful recreation area with trails around the lake and a large car park nearby. The area features beautiful nature walks through forests and biking trails.
Nice trail around the lake with beautiful views along the way. The trail is fairly rocky and narrow in some spots. But it was quiet and peaceful. I passed only a handful of people on the trail coming from the opposite direction. And, best of all, you can take the city bus right to it for only a few dollars equivalent.

Oxe Burger has a special place in our hearts. Ever since we visited this restaurant during our Scandinavian road trip in 2022, we couldn't stop talking about how good the burger tasted and how tender the meat was. It was just as perfect today! The burger (oxe burger) was well baked and the taste was absolutely amazing. Also, the chips on the side were very tasty as well. The restaurant itself is absolutely stunning and the staff is very friendly and they speak English well. Would definitely recommend and we'll definitely visit Oxe Burger again during our next trips!

Top burger place, we discovered this pearl just over 2 years ago on our travels and it was the best burger we have ever tasted! Locally sourced meat is the key here, we returned to this place as our only planned stop in our otherwise unplanned holiday this year. Again the burger was perfect and we learned our lesson; eat it while its hot!
Xander F — Google review
Amazing burger. Juicy and tasty. Totally worth the visit for a burger lover! The service was a bit bad. We got one wrong burger, asked for ketchup and it got forgotten, and it took forever to make milkshakes. We also didn't get any information when they used a lot of time to make the milkshakes, so we thought they had forgotten it. The restaurant was full and they were few cooks so have that in mind if visiting on a busy time.

Totally understand that employees don’t want to encourage freeloaders who wreck the facilities and don’t order anything, but there is a way to interact with paying customers without being downright rude. Really really unpleasant interaction here unfortunately :( Came inside with my family hoping to sit down and order some snacks and drinks after a long walk. Ordered and paid for a drink immediately before even going in to sit down as a show of good faith, and asked to quickly use the bathroom on the way to the outside seating area. The woman unlocking the bathroom immediately became very cagey and rude about only 1 person using the bathroom per purchase, and wouldn’t let up even to allow a young child (10 years old) to use the bathroom alongside me - despite the fact we openly said and signalled that we intended to stay and order more!! Just super rude and unfriendly unfortunately, we left and didn’t wish to ‘inconvenience’ the cafe by using their facilities (again, despite literally ordering and paying for stuff!).

Damien W — Google review
Didn't really like it. I ordered a steak with big horn potatoes which turned out some kind of chips. I asked the waiter to change it and he said that it's gonna cost extra. Anyway I ordered a baked potato which also turned out quite lame to my standards. Steak was supposed to be medium cooked which was medium rare. Altogether it wasn't a good experience.

It was my first (and last time) eating there. It was a really disappointing experience- both service and quality of food. The onion rings looked like they were pulled out of a frozen bag from a store and somehow the dipping sauce it came with was dry?? My steak was chewy and dry. The baked potato was just a potato in aluminium. There was nothing special about this that I would have paid 670kr for. Not to mention the comment the waiter made when he was collecting our plates to my friend who couldn't finish her meal. Something along the lines of finishing her plate and world hunger or something. WEIRD.

Fabulous place do not miss it has 3 floors my favourite was the top floor all exhibitions are fascinating and well worth the small entrance fee. Staff are welcoming there is a lift (elevator) to get you up to all floors for accessibility issues .
Sabrina F — Google review
Really good exibition the English quide booked helped but so much info in Norwegian slowed it down but the equipment looked genuine and a lot of it.
Jim M — Google review
If you already know quite a bit about WWII then this collection will be worth seeing. The museum does not do a thorough job explaining WWII, but it does have an impressive collection of artifacts that gives you an idea of Norway's perspective on the war. There is an exhibit pamphlet that allows you to read about the items that are displayed, and it can be a lot of reading if you want to read everything.

A fantastic time spent there day. Really enjoyed ourselves. Tom was so helpful and told us so much.

Tom’s farm is incredible!! We went for a tour there and had the most amazing time. He fed us apple cake, let us feed his sheep and hold one of the babies!! He told us all about the history of his farm and some things about the area. He was a very knowledgeable man and we appreciated everything he told us/gave us!! Even the walk to the farm itself was beautiful. This is a must see spot if you’re in haugesund!!

Not much to see!! Didn’t stay long to give it much of a review . There are toilets, lovely park opposite. You can buy refreshments and a seating area

A bit of a trek from the cruise terminal (shuttles available do reduce the distance), but what an interesting place. We were lucky to catch the Norwegian traditional clothing exhibition which was most interesting. Coffee available.
Nic F — Google review
A bit mad... in a weirdly hypnotic way. You can visit the local museum in town (which is surprisingly interesting with staff speaking perfect English and a coffee shop) and this on the same ticket. 👍

A bit disappointing. Not enough exhibitors for a large space. Staff very friendly.

Hidden gem of a museum great insights into early Norwegian family life. Excellent guide lovely setting great value also gets you into art museum. However I have s burning question can anyone tell me who the artist is who painted the very large painting behind reception of women working ?
Susan C — Google review
Very good small Museum, very lovely staff that speak good English. They have small cafe area with ready brewed coffee in a thermos flask. Cold drinks from the fridge and a seating area. As we walked in I enquired was there a Viking ship inside as we had thought but we were told unfortunately not. So we decided not to enter the museum hall. Never the less a pleasant pit stop on our travels from the port, this is just over the bridge close to the statue of Kind Harald Fair Hair.

Visited on Monday and had an amazing time, lovely staff and great history. Would definitely recommend the guided tour. Impeccable value for money.

The girls who gave the viewing of the houses were amazing. We got to literally go back in time over 200 years. The kids loved it too. Lots to do for them. They even had an art center. Where the kids could make boats 🚢 very cheep too only 14 euro for a family

We really enjoyed this. Madeline did a guided tour at midday, which was funny and informative. It really brought the experience to life. Highly recommended.

Divided into four zones, the approximately 60-minute experience caters to all ages, with a designated space for young children featuring age-appropriate activities. Visitors can expect friendly and knowledgeable staff who provide guidance on using digital exhibits available in multiple languages.
Visited as part of a boat tour. One hour wasn't long enough to do it justice. 10 mins film shown in a little theatre. Thoroughly enjoyed the short time we were there.
Rose K — Google review
Not very big and no vr, but the interactive screens were really interesting The selfie screen was fun
Robbie M — Google review
Good , informative. Just book direct online instead of any cruise trip operators. Easy to walk to from the port. Maybe smaller than expected. There are toilets and a lift to get to the museum floor.
John R — Google review
It was very small, but lots to see in the museum and some beautiful things to buy in the shop. The highlight is definitely the free AI photo though. Probably the best souvenirs of our holiday 🤣
Ghislaine H — Google review
Great value. My 12 year old really liked the AI to see what he looked like as a viking although small queue. Lots of reading but fun facts went down well. Amazing staff!
Carla G — Google review
Disappointing experience. Not worth the price! For the price of admission, we found it very underwhelming. The experience was limited to essentially one room, which felt overcrowded due to the large number of people in each group. This made it difficult to engage properly with the interactive screens, as there simply wasn’t enough space to enjoy them fully. Most of the information on display could easily be found online, so it didn’t offer anything particularly unique or immersive. There were also not enough headphones for the introductory movie clip, which meant some missed it entirely. The AI picture, which could have been a fun feature, was chaotic. There was no staff present to manage the area, leading to kids messing around and a long, disorganised queue. Overall, our family did not enjoy the experience and felt it was poor value for money. We would not recommend this to others.
Natasha W — Google review
Nice to visit, nice digital things to do, but way overpriced. 42 euro’s for 2 tickets. In comparison , the Guggenheim in New York & the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, where the most famous, valuable and impressive art in the ENTIRE WORLD is displayed , is the same price for an entree ticket 🤣 It’s 2 rooms with printed plates of artifacts located in other museums, but charge the same price as the museum that they are in probably 😜 Feels a bit like a tourist trap, which is sad, because you see the need of tourism for this town. You have to make attractions like this more accessible and a positive experience, for tourists to come back and talk about the museum and their experience.
Y — Google review
The museum is quite small and very dark, there is a vast amount of information on the screens but getting through them can be difficult when other people are reading at different places. The information is very interesting and there is an interactive photo booth that turns you in to a viking

Dattera til Lothe is a restaurant in Haugesund, Norway, offering both lunch and dinner menus. It features a beautiful garden with its own herb garden and apple trees, providing an excellent outdoor dining experience. The restaurant serves a variety of local foods, including freshly caught seafood options. We were wanting Norwegian food instead of the pizza and Asian food that seem to be often on offer in the port cities while on our cruise. The food was incredible and restaurant has great ambience. I would recommend the seafood soup and moulea frites. Even the espresso was quite good. Very happy with our visit here.

We stopped here for lunch whilst we were exploring Haugesund. It’s a lovely restaurant serving a range of local foods including freshly caught seafood options. We ordered the Fish Soup which was so good we asked if we could have the recipe to share back home. The restaurant is located just off the main bridge from the cruise port so if you are visiting the area as part of a Norwegian fjord cruise this place is well worth a visit.
Jack F — Google review
Beautiful flavours, fresh and delicious. Just what you need when you get off the cruise ship.
Natalie F — Google review
We had visited here back in May, whilst docked up with IONA; and we made a 'bee-line' here once again. The first time we visited, we were unsure how to enter the place, but this time we were well versed. We had a couple of drinks, whilst we watched the world go by. A fantastic place to 'people watch. Next time, we will try some food. Nice and quiet upon arrival, but soon started to get busy. Very friendly and warm staff. 10/10.👍🔥

Very poor service. Waiters do not even bother to answer when called (are they deaf?) Waiters do not even bother to clean the table from previous customers.

This Korean restaurant is a favorite! Everything I’ve tried is amazing, but the sweet and spicy chicken is unbeatable—crispy, saucy, and just right. The taro boba is my go-to drink. Honestly, if I don’t eat here at least twice or thrice a month, I might just turn into a beast!
