Monuments & Statues
Haraldshaugen, located 2 km north of downtown Haugesund, is a significant historical site in Norway. It comprises four important monuments: the burial mound, stone cross, church site, and the National Monument (Haraldsstotta), which was unveiled in 1872 to commemorate King Harald Fairhair's unification of Norway.
We had a brief stop at the unification memorial on our tour of the city. The monument is prominent, and makes for a good photo stop. Came here on the hop on hop off bus there's a 10 minute photo stop so you don't get long unless you want to wait for the next bus. You could get on the coast pass and have a walk. The view is nice from here

Haraldshaugen is located in Haugesund, just beside the city center. It is a historical monument celebrating the unification of Norway as one kingdom. At the top, you will see a nice coastal view. There is also a campsite nearby and trails for walking.
PaFer — Google review
Remember to take a walk to see the goats! The white horses are about a 10-15 min walk down a path up and down! Views are nice!
Craig E — Google review
Very cool to see and some great walks along the water front. Highly recommend the walk as there’s lots of little treats to discover along the way.
Shaun C — Google review
Must visit if you love history. And make sure you take a walk on the coastal path, it’s gorgeous out there.

Norways National Monument. Free to visit. Signifying the unification of Norway. The coastal walk along here is very picturesque with lots of sea craft coming and going, recommend going up to the rising tides sculpture just up the coast from here also.

Great site. Long way from thr city centre. Around 1 hour each way but walking on main roads.

The final resting place of Norways first Viking King Harald Hårfagre / Harald Fairhair. 🤴 It says in the Norse books, that he was the one who joined whole of Norway to 1 kingdom in 852 after killing all of the small Viking kings and ruled for 70 years.

Hiking Trails
Djupadalen, located in Haugesund, Norway, offers stunning vistas and a variety of wildlife such as deer, hares, minks, and birds. The hiking trail may be challenging for beginners but the view makes it worth the effort. Eivindsvannet Lake is a peaceful recreation area with trails around the lake and a large car park nearby. The area features beautiful nature walks through forests and biking trails.
Nice trail around the lake with beautiful views along the way. The trail is fairly rocky and narrow in some spots. But it was quiet and peaceful. I passed only a handful of people on the trail coming from the opposite direction. And, best of all, you can take the city bus right to it for only a few dollars equivalent.

Eivindsvannet Lake in Djupadalen, a recreation area, is so peaceful and beautiful. It is located near the centre of Haugesund, Norway. There are many trails including one around the lake. There is a big car park just across the road.

Take a stroll around Haugesund's historic district and you'll come across Vår Frelsers Church, a prominent and easily recognizable landmark that towers over the city skyline. This stunning church, both inside and out, is worth exploring beyond just snapping photos of its exterior. It boasts an elegant Gothic style with well-maintained wooden and brick elements. Erected in 1901, according to the plaque, it exudes peacefulness and grandeur befitting a cathedral.
Busy little church. Free to visit. It has some stunning stained glass. And is just a 13 minute walk from the Cruise terminal.

A beautiful and peaceful church in the heart of Haugesund. Vår Frelsers kirke is a lovely example of traditional Norwegian architecture, with its red brick facade and striking interior details. Whether you're attending a service, enjoying a concert, or just stopping in for a quiet moment, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The stained glass and woodwork inside are truly worth seeing. A calming spot that adds so much charm to the town.

Museum
The Viking Planet in Haugesund is a cutting-edge museum that offers an immersive journey through Viking culture using the latest VR and 3D technology. Divided into four zones, the approximately 60-minute experience caters to all ages, with a designated space for young children featuring age-appropriate activities. Visitors can expect friendly and knowledgeable staff who provide guidance on using digital exhibits available in multiple languages.
Visited as part of a boat tour. One hour wasn't long enough to do it justice. 10 mins film shown in a little theatre. Thoroughly enjoyed the short time we were there.
Rose K — Google review
Not very big and no vr, but the interactive screens were really interesting The selfie screen was fun
Robbie M — Google review
Good , informative. Just book direct online instead of any cruise trip operators. Easy to walk to from the port. Maybe smaller than expected. There are toilets and a lift to get to the museum floor.
John R — Google review
It was very small, but lots to see in the museum and some beautiful things to buy in the shop. The highlight is definitely the free AI photo though. Probably the best souvenirs of our holiday 🤣
Ghislaine H — Google review
Great value. My 12 year old really liked the AI to see what he looked like as a viking although small queue. Lots of reading but fun facts went down well. Amazing staff!
Carla G — Google review
Disappointing experience. Not worth the price! For the price of admission, we found it very underwhelming. The experience was limited to essentially one room, which felt overcrowded due to the large number of people in each group. This made it difficult to engage properly with the interactive screens, as there simply wasn’t enough space to enjoy them fully. Most of the information on display could easily be found online, so it didn’t offer anything particularly unique or immersive. There were also not enough headphones for the introductory movie clip, which meant some missed it entirely. The AI picture, which could have been a fun feature, was chaotic. There was no staff present to manage the area, leading to kids messing around and a long, disorganised queue. Overall, our family did not enjoy the experience and felt it was poor value for money. We would not recommend this to others.
Natasha W — Google review
Nice to visit, nice digital things to do, but way overpriced. 42 euro’s for 2 tickets. In comparison , the Guggenheim in New York & the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, where the most famous, valuable and impressive art in the ENTIRE WORLD is displayed , is the same price for an entree ticket 🤣 It’s 2 rooms with printed plates of artifacts located in other museums, but charge the same price as the museum that they are in probably 😜 Feels a bit like a tourist trap, which is sad, because you see the need of tourism for this town. You have to make attractions like this more accessible and a positive experience, for tourists to come back and talk about the museum and their experience.
Y — Google review
The museum is quite small and very dark, there is a vast amount of information on the screens but getting through them can be difficult when other people are reading at different places. The information is very interesting and there is an interactive photo booth that turns you in to a viking

Once Cupcakehuset, Jåblom Bakery AS in Haugesund releases their menu, they will publish it here. In the meantime, you can explore nearby menus or assist by compiling a list of available dishes and drinks. This bakery is known for its delightful selection of flavors and accommodating staff. However, the seating inside is limited. They offer a kinder cupcake that primarily tastes like chocolate with its kinder filling, but it may not fully satisfy your cravings.
We loved Cupcakehuset! We visited off a cruise ship, having walked along the coast path, and had a lovely relaxing break with cups of tea and delicious cakes. I was able to get a lovely gluten free carrot cake, which was much appreciated. The café is beautiful with flowers everywhere and the staff are friendly and helpful. Thanks very much. 😊

Wow! The best cupcakes I have ever tasted. A variety of delicious flavours amongst other things. And very good coffee to wash them down. If in Haugesund I would say Jåblom Bakst is a must!!!

Stopped off here and I had the pistachio cupcake and a latte. Oh my it was pretty special. Lovely little place, friendly staff and amazing cakes! Will definitely be back if we ever get a cruise stop at the same port again. Highly recommend
Simon H — Google review
After getting off the cruise ship, we walked through the shopping street and found Cupcakehuset. It looked nice from the outside, so we decided to stop – and we’re glad we did. The café is really beautiful, with lots of flowers and a calm, relaxed atmosphere. I had a cappuccino and a cupcake – both were excellent. The cupcake looked amazing and tasted even better. The staff was super friendly and helpful. If you’re in the area, take the time to stop by. Totally worth it.
Mathias H — Google review
Dangerous place 😎 And most difficult to pick something. Been here 4 years ago and it's great to see the place growing and thriving. The cupcakes with berries are crazy good. In fact, everything so far was delicious. 60Nok for a single piece is not cheap, but totally worth it. Better get a 4 or 6 pack and safe (just not on calories).
Sascha W — Google review
Visited the town on a cruise, happened upon this beautiful little cake shop, and im so glad I did! Genuinely think it was the best cupcake I've ever had! Wish I'd bought more! If I was ever in town again I'd rush straight here!
Charlotte C — Google review
Excellent coffee, double espresso americano. If heaven has raspberry cheesecake it will taste like this. Great service, unable to sit in the cafe as it was so busy. Sat on table outside. Highly recommend a visit.
Jeffrey A — Google review
During a recent visit, I was served a cupcake with a visible strand of hair embedded in the frosting (photo attached). This is not only off-putting, but a serious lapse in food safety and quality control. Presentation matters — and so does cleanliness. A single hair in food is a glaring sign of poor kitchen practices. It ruined what could have been an enjoyable review of their product. I expect better from any bakery serving the public, especially one that positions itself as a boutique cupcakery. Until proper hygiene protocols are clearly in place, I cannot in good faith recommend The Cupcake House to my readers or followers I was excited to try their cupcakes, but when I opened the box and took a closer look, there was a long hair baked right into the frosting. Absolutely unacceptable and beyond disgusting. It’s clear there is no proper hygiene or quality control in their kitchen. I lost my appetite completely and couldn’t even take a bite after seeing that hair stuck in the frosting. For a place that charges premium prices for their “artisanal” cupcakes, I expected much, much better. I won’t be returning, and I cannot recommend this place to anyone who values basic cleanliness in their food. As a food critic with over 300,000 followers who regularly engage with my reviews and photos, I feel it’s important to be transparent when a dining experience falls drastically below standard.

The statue is located near a bridge that provides stunning views of the surroundings. Visitors appreciate the lovely statue and enjoy taking in the picturesque scenery from this lookout point.
It's a nice place to visit when you take a walk along the coast.

It's okay, a couple of photos, and you are essentially done. Decent walk from the ship though, unless you take the sightseeing bus, which drops you off/picks you up adjacent to the small park and school approx 100 yards away.
Graham D — Google review
A striking tribute to Norway's first king! The King Harald Fairhair statue stands proudly overlooking the sea, and you can really feel the sense of history in the air. It's a peaceful and scenic spot, with great views and a lovely surrounding park. There’s also some informative signage nearby if you want to learn more about Harald Fairhair and his role in uniting Norway. Well worth a visit if you're in Haugesund—both for the photo op and the quiet moment of reflection.

A pleasant walk from the port to this location. Unfortunately, there's only one bridge crossing from where the cruise ship docks, and that bridge is a little mountain to climb! It's worth the walk, though, as it's a lovely location with great views.

Harald Fairhair statue, a monument dedicated to the first King of Norway. The statue itself is a striking piece of art, capturing the grandeur and legacy of Harald Fairhair. It stands tall and majestic, offering a fitting tribute to a figure of such historical importance. It is 20 minutes walking distance from the national monument, and both should be visited. I was surprised to see that there were no plaques or information boards near the statue, so I looked up the history myself.

In the Norwegian town of Haugesund, there's an unexpected sight: a statue of Marilyn Monroe. This seemingly random tribute is tied to the fact that Monroe's father hailed from this area before emigrating to the United States. The statue, located near the sea and port, may seem out of place but adds a touch of whimsy to this picturesque town.
While on a cruise we heard there was a statue of Marilyn Monroe in this particular port. Our plan for the day was to take public transportation around the city and walk a bit. Coincidentally our Hostess on the ship had a tattoo of Marilyn on her arm. When she heard we were going to the statue, she also went to see it. The statue is located in a scenic spot (boardwalk) along the river where you can dine and view the statue. A bit nostalgic to see and take photos. We weren’t the only ones taking photos, but only took a few minutes to take our own.
L C — Google review

Rob W — Google review

Gareth T — Google review
Statue of the famed blonde bombshell via the marina. It is said to be "a tribute to her Norwegian heritage, as her father, a baker, is believed to have emigrated from the area to the USA" according to the web.
Palmer V — Google review
You may wonder why? Why is there a statue of Marilyn Monroe in the middle of Norway? Well, her Dad was a baker in the town and then immigrated to America, and subsequently fathered Norma. A nice little tribute
Oliver B — Google review
This is a lovely place to visit when you are in Haugaund. I visited a few times now and feel I have to touch her foot and make a wish. It's a beautiful place with lovely views. If you are in town I highly recommend visiting Marilyn and saying hello. Fun fact it is believed that her father was from this town.
Kitty P — Google review
Basic statue on the shoreline between a hotel & construction site, is not a glamorous location. The statue itself is OK, even though any link Marilyn had with Haugesund is tenuous at best & it seems likely erroneous. Even so it remains on the tourist sites list.

Krosshaugen is a significant historical site in Norway, featuring a stone cross dating back to around 1000 AD. It served as a Parliament site and is believed to commemorate the farmers who embraced Christianity during parliamentary sessions. Before the construction of churches, it's thought that Christian masses were conducted near these stone crosses. The location offers stunning views and is part of a picturesque coastal walk, making it an interesting stop for those exploring the area.

If you already know quite a bit about WWII then this collection will be worth seeing. The museum does not do a thorough job explaining WWII, but it does have an impressive collection of artifacts that gives you an idea of Norway's perspective on the war. Located by Lake Skeisvatnet and within walking distance of the center of Haugesund lies a gem of a festival area that has lain fallow since the legendary Vise - and the Lyric Festival gathered an incredible 18,000 people here in 1972. The festival was held for the first time in August 2017, as a one-day music festival for a festival-hungry local population. Despite a Westland cloudburst of epic proportions, the crowd came, setting the stage for an extended festival in 2018 - three days of fantastic artists, good food and plenty of drink. Both the rain and the audience showed up, but this time the audience was in the majority, demonstrating that life was made for The Festival in Vangen. Haraldsvang Nature Park The area is bounded in the north by Skeisvoldsveien (county road), in the east by Arkavatnet, in the west by Skeisvatnet and in the south by Haraldshallen/Haraldsvang school. The area consists of many hiking trails, varied vegetation with many large trees, a swimming area with a diving tower, a cafe, a party area and a playground. (Translated by Google) The statue "Fiskerne" which was given to the city over 100 years ago by Consul B. Stolt-Nielsen in honor of the city of Haugesund and is today a well-known landmark in Haugesund. On Monday 22 December 1919, Consul B. Stolt-Nielsen declared that he would give the statue "The Fishermen" as a gift to the city. The statue, created by artist Sofus Madsen, is to this day perhaps the center of Haugesund's most famous landmark and meeting place, and in 2020 turned 100 years old. Today, it may be obvious to many that this is where the statue belongs, but Madsen originally made the statue 8-10 years before it was exhibited in Haugesund. The plan was for the statue to stand in Bergen, but the city fire in Bergen led to such projects taking a back seat. On 14 December 1919, Madsen opened an exhibition in Haugesund, where a miniature of the "Fishermen" was one of the statues on display. In conversation with Haugesund Dagblad, the possibility of erecting the statue in Haugesund was brought up. The artist immediately took an interest in the proposal, as did Consul B. Stolt-Nielsen, who was then a parliamentary representative in Oslo. When he read about the proposal in Haugesund's Dagblad, he immediately contacted the editor and informed them that he was willing to pay the full sum for the erection of the statue, and asked them to get started "as quickly as possible" (Haugesund's Dagblad 1919). The fishermen cost Stolt-Nielsen 31,000, which corresponds to over 400,000 today (Eilertsen 2000). The plan was to unveil the statue on 17 May 1920, but when the plaster cast was ready in February of the same year, it turned out that no Norwegian foundries were able to cast it in bronze by the given time. The assignment ended in Copenhagen, at Jensen's broce støberi. They set themselves the goal of having the statue ready before 17 May 1920. In itself, this was an ambitious schedule, but then the Danish government unexpectedly resigned, which led to a general strike in the country and the casting was delayed by several weeks. It ended with the unveiling in Torgbakken taking place on 2 Whitsunday 1920. Text borrowed from Haugesund Library. Fiskerne kostet Stolt-Nielsen 31 000, noe som tilsvarer over 400 000 i dag (Eilertsen 2000).
