The Monument of Liberty in Ruse is a significant tourist attraction located in a beautiful park. It was built to commemorate the liberation of Bulgaria and Ruse from the Ottoman Empire's rule in 1877. The statue depicts a woman holding a sword, facing North towards Russia, which is part of the city emblem's design. Initially, it was supposed to have a statue representing Tsar Liberator Alexander II on top, but citizens opted for one symbolizing freedom instead.
Nice monument, very central, seems maintained. Loved the lions.

A very vibrant spot. Landmark in Ruse. Continue walking further down and there'll be plenty of restaurants and shops.

First Time in Eastern Europe – Bulgaria’s Warm Welcome This was my first time experiencing Eastern Europe, and Bulgaria truly surprised me. The city is full of history to explore and learn, from its architecture to its cultural landmarks. But what stood out the most were the people — so kind, welcoming, and friendly. It made the whole experience even more enjoyable. ✨ Final thought: I really enjoyed my time here. Bulgaria has a unique charm, a rich history, and warm-hearted people. Definitely a place worth visiting.

A tidy and modern town square full of cafes and bars to sit and watch the world go by. As you move out if the square you enter the old town of narrow streets and old buildings with a mixture of origins just 500 metres from the River Danube

Went on a Sunday. The parking near the park was allowed on Sunday, so parked there and had coffee and walked around. Later went the river front, which is 10 min walk and came back to the car. You find people chilling around. Nice place for a couple of hours

The Pantheon of National Revival Heroes, also known as Sveta Troitsa, is a significant monument in Bulgaria that commemorates the heroes who fought for the country's liberation. The building, constructed in 1632 below ground level to adhere to Turkish regulations, features an exhibition about Bulgarian heroes and their struggle against the Ottoman Empire. Interactive videos projected on the walls beneath the dome provide a virtual journey through history.
Historical place where you can read for the Rousse revolutionaries, heroes that take part of the Bulgarian revival age.

Undergoes renovation as it, indeed, badly needs it. The building itself seems very interesting, would like to revisit when it's finished. I understand it's an osuary of Bulgarian revolutionaries. The park It's in is not very nice, will probably need some work to make it more attractive

A place to visit to learn about Bulgarian heroes fought against Ottoman Empire . Apart from the guide who tried his best to tell us about this place unfortunately all information was written in Bulgarian. How can you tell your history to the international visitors?
Hakan E — Google review
The building looks good, but when I visited in July 2019 it was being repaired and didn't have the chance to see it from the inside. However if you go there make sure to visit it during the working hours. While there you can enjoy the city parks as well.

National Museum – A Must-See in the City We visited the National Museum today and learned so much about the country’s history and culture. Very informative museum over 2 floors chronicaling the history of the region. From Neolithic to WW2. Majority has English info as well as Bulgarian apart from one display on the 2nd floor. Also has videos with subtitles. Was very peaceful (think I was the only one there). Cost 10 Lev for an adult. Are toilets on site.

For the price of 5 leva you get ti experience a lovely museum with thousands of exhibits, presented in chronological order with descriptions in both Bulgarian and English for close to all the exhibits. I ended up staying two hours here and it was worth every second. The building itself is beautiful from the outside as well as the inside and although an old construction it has been revamped offering a great experience for the visitor. The exhibition is standard Bulgarian regional musuem starting all the way back in the Neolithic and ending up in the modern era. As is typical for such places in Bulgaria, 500 years of Ottoman occupation are non-existent and no mention is made about the communist era

Nestled in the heart of Ruse, Bulgaria, Happy Bar & Grill is a vibrant dining destination that promises an enjoyable culinary adventure. Known for its delectable seafood offerings, guests rave about the fried seafood platter that perfectly balances crispy textures with tender flavors. The freshness of the ingredients shines through in every bite, showcasing the chefs' expertise. With a welcoming atmosphere and attentive staff, diners can expect prompt service—often receiving their meals within just ten minutes!
I recently had an amazing culinary experience at Happy Bar & Grill, and I genuinely can’t stop thinking about how delicious everything was! From start to finish, the meal was a delight – both in flavor and presentation. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and each one stood out in its own way. We started with appetizers: the tzatziki, fish roe spread (icre), and the cream cheese with sun-dried tomatoes were absolutely delicious – fresh, flavorful, and perfect for dipping with warm bread. The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside, soft inside, and nicely seasoned. For mains, we had an incredible selection: the grilled octopus was tender and perfectly charred, full of flavor without being chewy. The sushi platter was beautifully presented and fresh – truly impressive for a non-specialized sushi place. The grilled fish was juicy and well-seasoned, served with a refreshing tomato and cheese salad that reminded me of summer in the Mediterranean. One of my favorite dishes was their version of traditional meatballs (kiufte) – perfectly spiced and grilled, full of authentic Balkan flavor. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and was clearly made with quality ingredients. The portion sizes were generous, and the balance of flavors in each dish showed real attention to detail. It’s rare to find a restaurant with such a diverse menu where every single item is prepared so well. The service was also excellent – fast, friendly, and knowledgeable. The staff made us feel welcome and helped with great suggestions. Happy Bar & Grill truly lives up to its name – great food, great vibe, and a happy experience from start to finish. I’ll definitely be returning to try even more from their menu!

Ruse City Center – Lamb Dreams and Mango Lemonade So we wandered into this local restaurant in the center of Ruse, and honestly… what a win. I ordered the lamb on mashed potatoes and wow — tender, juicy, full of flavor. Basically comfort food with style. For the kids, we kept it simple: chicken and fries. No complaints there — plates were clean in minutes (which is the ultimate 5-star kid review). Drinks? I went for a latte, and we also tried a mango lemonade that just screamed summer. Super refreshing, super good. 💶 The bill? Totally reasonable. Nothing to complain about, which is rare when you travel with kids and order half the menu. Final thought: If you’re in Ruse and hungry, just go here. Order the lamb. Thank me later.

Taking a pit stop in Ruse, on our way to Sunny Beach. We were told that Ruse was boring , but we DISAGREE. This restaurant is very nice. On a side street of the walking street, it offers an extensive menu. Starters, burgers, fish, chicken dishes and all we ate was wonderful. Highly recommended! We ate a starter, meal and (several each ) drinks for ca160/85euro. Would definitely eat here again.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Happy – Rousse First time trying this European chain, and overall it was a decent experience. Prices felt a bit high for the quality, and drinks were definitely overpriced. On the plus side, portion sizes are huge — my wife and I shared plates and still left very full. Taste-wise, the dishes we ordered were good, nothing spectacular but enjoyable. Atmosphere was nice, and I appreciated the outdoor seating, even though the rain made our table wet (staff did warn us, so no complaints there). Fun surprise: they even have their own version of sushi, which made us all laugh — very creative recipes for sure! Overall, I’d go back, but next time I’ll be more careful about what and how much I order.

I found a cockroach in my Caesar salad. Luckily, the waitress was very nice - she offered to take the salad off my bill and gave me dessert. The staff at Happy is great, but the hygiene in the kitchen is beyond reproach... I had heard of similar stories before, and now I have seen it for myself. I am attaching photos:

Nice place, awful food. Maybe we were unlucky, but the grilled pork ribs smelled very bad and couldn't be eaten. "Fresh French fries" - I used double quotes because it was an exact citation of waiter's description - were not fresh, but frozen instead, McDonalds -like fried potatos. However, coca cola and espresso were ok, as expected (Joke). The waiter-girl was helpful and kind, but she cannot replace Chef's work.

We dined in last Sunday around lunch time. The food was not bad at all, but the service was horrible. We waited for about 1 hour for just some pizzas. On top of that, we ordered some ketchup and an extra bottle of water, which were never brought. Also, they did not have any of the desserts from the menu. And they had just one toilet for the entire restaurant (which at that time was full), for men and women combined.

This was the most disappointing thing I've had in Bulgaria. I ordered the veal shank. The middle was cold inside hot outside and rubbery. The rice was hard, like hard hard, couldn't even chew it. Probably microwaved. Don't come here for things other than drinks or breakfast. EDIT: I forgot to mention, this was 30 leva, which is a LOT for Bulgaria, most restaurants charge 15-20 for this and have done an amazing job with it, no idea why this place was 30 leva, but I learned my lesson.

This establishment, known as Механа "Чифлика," is an extraordinary place. Each dish that was ordered received a perfect score of 10/10. The ambience reflects the authentic Bulgarian style and is impeccable. It's a wonderful venue to showcase the beautiful culture of Bulgaria. The food itself is exceptionally flavorful, and we were pleasantly surprised by the careful preparation of each meal. We give it another solid 10/10! We highly recommend this establishment.
Delicious traditional food and delightful atmosphere. The portions are big, and everything we tried was delightful - I really recommend the liver with mushrooms and the fishes. The decor makes you feel like you are back in time - I especially like the little veggie shop at the entrance. The restaurant is spacious and perfect for big celebrations. The service could be improved- the waitresses are impolite.

The traditional Bulgarian food!!! Everything was so tasty! Loved the yogurt soup. Good for summer, very refreshing. The grilled plate was also yummy. The tomato & cheese salad was so tasty! Great service, good atmosphere. Bulgarian taste of setting. Very satisfied.

Recommended place for traditional Bulgarian cuisine, atmosphere, service. Live music with classic old hits, folklore songs and smiling people who came for this. Can't recommend it for vegans/vegetarians. Portions were not as big as I expected, and the home bread is quite different from the usual pita suggestion. I also couldn't get a traditional tarator (Bg yogurt soup) that surprised me, as I love it. Otherwise ingredients were fresh and dishes - well prepared, so I'd still recommend it.

I went to this place on a Saturday evening without a reservation and I had no trouble finding a table. Prices seemed a bit high at first but they are very good for the size of portions. I had some pork and a Caesar salad and both dishes were clearly superior. They even gave me some complementary roe salad, also very tasty. Staff is exceptional, not only very polite but you feel they actually care about you and want you to feel good; and they also speak good English. There is an English menu as well. 5 stars experience!

I give 2 starts because the restaurant is very bad, hotel is 4 stars, but the restaurant is 0 star! - the hotel is very new and modern - very big room and bathroom - all clean - comfortable bed - friendly receptionists - air conditioning worked well - hotel is recommended but don't dare use the restaurant! - hotel is nice but the restaurant is totally horrible and not recommended - breakfast was not so nice - we got margarine instead of butter for sandwiches and there was margarine in my scrambled eggs too, tasted bad, there was small choice of drinks for breakfast - only espresso from coffee or chamomile tea from tea, I don't think it's much more expensive or problem to offer cappuccino or black tea. bad bread for breakfast, seems it's the cheapest one from supermarket which can last for 3 days or more. the restaurant looks modern, is clean and has nice design but the food is horrible. for dinner I ordered Margarita Pizza and I am sure the pizza I ordered was made from frozen ready pizza (I have big experience in eating it before I went on a diet:-)), my husband got meat which was small with cold potatoes, it was not cheap eighter. It says it's a family restaurant, I expected sth much better, fresh and local. The waitress was also a bit lost, but it's not her fault, it seems the owner doesn't train the workers well and doesn't provide with info and good products. This bad restaurant really lowers the hotel's rating.

Not clean bathroom-need to be cleaned, broken handles of doors and windows. Location is great, service at the reception is very kind.

The hotel's location is great, just 100 m from the city center. The room have a terrace but unfortunatly there is no chair and no table there so this makes it unuseable. The most annoying thing was that the breakfast is announced ro be served between 8:30 and 10:00 but it is starting more like 9:00. You lose all your morning for some coffe... My advise, don't book with breakfast included.

It is a lovely restaurant with always a good service, and quite charming for a romantic or casual dining experience.

Great experience, very friendly waiters, excellent cuisine, high standing, correct prices. The best restaurant in Ruse for me (after eating at the well-rated ones).

Nice place with nice atmosphere and service. The food was excellent but we found the menu quite short.
