Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Perched atop the town of Morella, Castell de Morella is an ancient fortress with a rich history dating back to the 3rd millennium BC. The large Moorish castle, built in the 13th century on earlier Iberian and Roman foundations, offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and hills. Visitors can explore its steep roads, medieval streets, churches, and walls before hiking up to admire its well-preserved walls and terraces.
We walked up to the castle which was quite a trek, zigzagging up the hill. Once we got past the metal bridge after the modern bull ring I walked along to the left to see the statue of Ramon Cabrera, a guerilla leader in one of the Spanish succession wars and views over the ruined convent of St Francis. Access to the castle from there was blocked so I walked all the way back and carried on up the hill to the main gate. This had obviously been repaired recently but if an attacker even go that far I'd be impressed. The area before the summit contained the governors palace (now housing an exhibition of the town's history) and various admin, storage and living rooms and a prison. The 19th century improvements were very visible with extra walls and batteries due to the capabilities of modern canon, two of which were added to the castle in the 1950s. The top of hill was very windswept and had lots of rooms with information boards but in Spanish only. The views, as you can image, were just fantastic with the lower fortifications, the city walls, the medieval aquaduct and the wider Valencian countryside all layed out.

Wonderful place to visit! Looooots of stares, very nice views, impressive piece of history! Totally it's a visit must!
Victor N — Google review
Wow, climbing up to Morella’s castle felt like stepping into a medieval saga! The steep, winding path had my heart racing, but those jaw-dropping views of the Valencian countryside? Totally worth every step. The fortress, perched at 1,073 meters, is a time capsule did you know it was first built by the Moors in the 900s on Roman ruins? For just €2, you get to explore its ancient walls and towers. Wear comfy shoes, bring a water bottle, and don’t skip the tiny fossil jewelry shop at the exit those pieces glow in the sun! Perfect for history buffs and adventurers alike.
Semen K — Google review
Castell de Morella is a must if you’re chasing history with jaw-dropping views. This ancient fortress, perched on a rocky hill, feels like stepping into a medieval saga. Pro tip: visit early morning when it opens at 11 AM to skip any queues—takes about 5-10 minutes max. Entry is just €5, a steal for the climb to Plaza de Armas, where you’ll snap epic photos of Morella’s red rooftops and the Els Ports mountains. Wear comfy shoes for the steep paths, and don’t miss the Convent de Sant Francesc entrance it’s the only way in
Patrick P — Google review
Ticket costs €5/person. Dogs are allowed. A magnificent castle where can overlook the whole town.
Fang H — Google review
It seems like a very big hill to climb to the top of the castle but it's not too bad, for someone like me who hates hills. Amazing views and information plaquards around, €3.50 entrance fee.
Nicola M — Google review
It's a little town on the hill, with an ancient church building, though small it's very unique worth to explore even though you may have seen many. The castle on the top is a ruine, ancient but nothing much to see. The streets in the middle of the hill are just like any other Spanish town.
Vincent A — Google review
Excellent castle to visit. 3 euros 50 for adults. Dogs allowed. Very very windy today - I don't know if that's always the case.

Good exhibition about dinosaur remains in the area
V O — Google review
Nice exhibition. Good quality fossils in great condition. My son loved the experience. However, it was a shame that there was no English translation of the exhibits. And the staff member was very unfriendly. It was obvious he had no passion to work there. Small tip: it is worth to find the dinosaur footprints outside of Morella. It was very exciting.

(Translated by Google) Museum with dinosaur remains from sites near Morella. It is beautiful and especially if you go with kids you can see it since it can be a fun activity for them. How it improves putting in a classroom, so that the children could enjoy this space more, would be great. I would have liked to see a longer, more up-to-date video (I think the one shown is over six years old). (Translated by Google) Perfect for kids. Calling to reserve the Escape Room is highly recommended. The museum manager assisted us throughout the game. And although he also had to assist arriving visitors, he always had a moment to help us on our adventure. A 10 for the museum staff. In addition, although the space is small, it has many interesting exhibits. Those interested in paleontology will love it.

(Translated by Google) Very fun and educational, very suitable for going with little ones. The bad thing is the parking, you have to park on the outskirts of the town, since it is walled and small there are no parking spaces available, but a step away from the center you have a public parking that is only paid on some occasions, we went on a Saturday in November and pay 2 euros for almost 3 hours. In the museum they show you a video that is very good, few people visit it, so you see it in a moment. It also has discounts for large families, it is economical.

Restaurant
Mediterranean restaurant
Restaurante Casa Roque is a traditional restaurant with a 40-year history, offering a menu focused on traditional recipes using locally sourced ingredients. Some recommended dishes include migas, croquetas morellanas, sopa morellana, and cuajada for dessert. For a special experience, guests can opt for the traditional menu. The restaurant is known for its attentive service and lovely setting.
This is lovely "Fine Dining" -quality lunch at a great "Menu del Dia" price, especially for Morella. Local ingredients and cooking styles. The refreshing Ensalada de Codornices set the tone, and the mains Timbal de Cordero and Holjadre Rellenos were both top notch. We ordered for 2 and fed 4. The decor is classic w chunky furniture, framed photographs + a strange / unexplained interest in hook rugs (?!) Service is warm and helpful for english speakers. Washrooms are down 2 flights of stairs, FYI.
Brett N — Google review
Really nice restaurant, very spacious, with a good offer to eat lunch and dinner. We chose to have the daily menu and it was enough to taste different things, like their migas or the carrillera. The desserts, chocolate mouse and lemon in our case, were also tasty. I could recommend this as a good option if you are exploring around Morella.
Ricardo V — Google review
This is a 5-stars meal for a 3/4 stars price. Casa Roque is located in the heart of Morella, the ambience is classical and quaint. We had the €24 menu: 4 entrées (starters, hors d'oeuvres), a main dish and a dessert. Every dish is thoughtfully designed to include local and regional ingredients. Service is warm and helpful.
Manuel A — Google review
Chanced upon this restaurant for lunch. A wide choice of interesting traditional dishes on the menu. Excellent service and delicious food. Highly recommended
Louise — Google review
We went here after looking at favourable reviews only to be disappointed by the food. The staff and the atmosphere were good, the waitress explaining the menu very well as we only have limited Spanish vocabulary. We opted for meal of the day, what a disappointment. All of the courses were very bland in taste. Maybe if we’d opted to pick off the al a carte menu then we may have faired better. We were in Spain for a week and this by far was our worst meal.
Carl M — Google review
Ok. Our appetizer was good, but the main course a mixed bag. My stuffed pork tasted like the instant gravy that smothered it. The curried chicken on the other hand was very good. Desserts were packaged fare. Seems like it caters to the elderly tour bus crowd and the chef phones it in. That said, the service was very friendly.
Carol A — Google review
Service was great, but we were quite disappointed with the food... We ordered from the regular menu and apart from the croquetas morellanas the main dishes were subpar (lamb chops dry and overcooked, seabass too bland, and all of the mains came the the exact same sides). Maybe it’s a different story with the tasting menu, but our experience did not convince us to go back.
Adam A — Google review
It is definitely a good option to try local food, very tasty and reasonably price.

Porta de Sant Miquel is the main entrance to the old city of Morella, a heavily-fortified town with a rich history. The gate's stunning twin towers and old architecture make it an excellent spot for taking pictures and exploring. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, charming shops, cozy terraces, and reasonable dining options in this beautiful Spanish village. The gate offers fantastic views and serves as a wonderful starting point for walking around the town's walls.
Awesome place to visit. Great place to take pictures. Eating out is also very reasonable.
Stephen J — Google review
The tourist information office just inside the main gate sold a combined castle/church/gatehouse/dinosaur museum ticket for €11 so we took advantage of that and then visited the Gate of St Michael. The steps inside linking each floor were very steep and there were various artifacts inside but descriptions were only in Spanish, as were the descriptions and plans of each of the city wall towers. There were impressive views from the roof although the wind was rather strong!

Aqüeducte de Santa Llúcia Morella is a stunning medieval historical site that includes the viaduct built in 1318 and the Morella Castillo from the 1200s. The area is particularly beautiful during almond tree blooming season, creating a picturesque pink landscape. The Arabic fortress from the 1300s adds to its ancient charm, showcasing impressive engineering for its time. While not entirely intact, it still stands as a remarkable piece of history.

Restaurante Daluan is a must-visit dining spot in Morella, known for its unique blend of traditional and avant-garde cuisine. The restaurant has garnered praise for its excellent service and delicious dishes, offering a culinary experience that beautifully showcases local ingredients. With a focus on seasonal products and distinctive flavors, diners can expect to indulge in creatively crafted dishes that highlight the region's gastronomic heritage.
Amazing food and presentation! 13 course tasting menu was amazing. Nothing was bad and everything was bad. All the main dishes had the most tender meat ever. Plan on taking your time. Not a good place for gluten free or lactose free food needs. They do the best they can, but not a lot of options.
Judith W — Google review
A unique restaurant in the heart of Morella. Every dish is an experience. The solomillo is to die for, croquetas de Morella, the explosion of flavors is incredible.
Rodrigo R — Google review
Beautifully executed food. Shared 2 starters and one main between 2 of us. Very well presented . Amuse buche along with bread and olive oil was a nice beginning. Very professional service. Menu in English was provided. Very good value for high end quality food.
Shona H — Google review
The food was very good, but towards the end of the meal the service got very bad. While other diners were offered a digestif to finish off the meal, I was not offered one, and when I asked for one the waitress brushed off my request. We were then ignored for 15 minutes until we finally asked for the check. While the food was great, this experience at the end left us with a very bad impression.
Eric H — Google review
Probably the best croquetas and arroz meloso with locally sourced lamb (con cordero de la zona) I’ve tried in my life!
Chris A — Google review
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here. The carpaccio of smoked tuna was really good and the Venison sirloin was delicious. They even declined a tip as not needed

Best restaurant in the area. I will just say that once, we took a trip to Culla and made a reservation (because we had been to Morella previously and loved the restaurant and dining experience) which meant having to drive for an hour to and from. Worth it. We always try to get a table here whenever we are staying around (even if it means driving for an hour!).

New Gastro Bar in Morella, had dinner here with 9 others, all the dishes were excellent. Some tapas, ensaladas , a good selection of Hamburgers & Totadas as main course.Only thing to note is all almost all tables are outside on the terrazzo, staff were excellent, but then again the other 9 diners with me are from Morella, so that might have some influence!

(Translated by Google) We have gone to eat. For starters, bravas potatoes and caprese salad. Perhaps the only but, that the caprese could have a little more tomato 🍅 with the same cheese. It was super tasty. For the main thing, we tried the truffle burger, which was super tasty, and the goat cheese burger. Both had very good meat, and were very complete. The attention of the youngest waiter has been super good, and it was a pleasure to see how he moved and how good he was. (Original) Hemos ido a comer. Horrible restaurant. NOT recommended!!! We were in a group and while half of us had received their starters and dirinks the rest were still waiting to order. The drinks arrived long after the starters, for which we didn't even receive plates, so we had to eat shared salads on napkins. The food was really bad. We ordered a lamb dish and it was mainly fat with bones. Besides, there is no vegetarian option and when I asked the waitress if they could make something simple like an omelette she rudely replies that it wasn't her problem. So, unless you are happy with cheap but rubbish food and terrible treatment, avoid this place.

This former prison, dating back to the 16th century, offers an intriguing glimpse into the judicial and penal history of the region. The prison is located on the ground floor of the Morella Town Hall, in the historic center of the city. The cells and common areas have been preserved in their original state, allowing visitors to imagine what prison life was like centuries ago. It is especially impressive to see the inscriptions that former prisoners left on the walls of the cells, a true time capsule. The place has an exhibition that offers information about the history of the prison and its role in the context of justice and society in the past. Although small, the exhibition is interesting and presented in a clear and accessible way. Despite its compact size, Morella Prison is steeped in history and offers an educational and moving experience. You can spend about an hour exploring the cells and reading about the history of the prison and those who were confined there. A possible area of improvement would be signage and the availability of information in more languages. This would help international visitors better understand the history of the place. In short, Morella Prison is a must-see for history lovers in the area. It will transport you back in time and give you a unique insight into the life and times of those who were locked within its walls.

Casa Pere - Taperia Restaurant is a long-established, family-run establishment that has been serving tapas and desserts since 1905. It offers a cozy ambiance for patrons to enjoy their meals. However, during lunchtime in small towns like Morella, finding a place to eat can be challenging as many restaurants may already be fully booked by 2pm.
Lunch time can be a challenge in small towns. If you arrive around 2pm be aware that many restaurants are already booked. If you walk around, you can find a good "menu" with appetizer, entrée, desert, and a drink for a reasonable price. When we arrived to Morella for the first time, we were looking for Morella Jewish Quarter to place the relevant point in Google Maps. Before searching, we had lunch here. The menu was great and the second floor room was very nice. This is one restaurant to come back. Caldo Morellano and local "embutidos" and cheese were great.

We went for the local menu at lunchtime, which gave us three starters, a main course and a desert. The food was good and it was value for money. We weren't big fans of the cheese with honey desert, but that was the only "low" point of the meal. We were eating outside and were a little disappointed with the number of cars driving past (authorized cars only). Such a shame in an historic town like this.

Restaurant
Mesón Del Pastor is a Michelin Guide restaurant that offers creative dishes like cured deer carpaccio with goat cheese ice cream and ginger oil. Other restaurants in the area, such as Vinatea and Daluan, also serve bold dishes using local ingredients, such as steak tartare with fried egg cream and duck fillet with wine-soaked peaches.
Fantastic gem in a beautiful medieval mountain town. The restaurant has a beautiful classic decor which adds the authentic feel of the whole experience. They were very kind and accommodating for vegetarians and made traditional foods without the meat. The flavors were great and the quality of the ingredients seemed very high. The service and great, everyone was knowledgeable and kind. I highly recommend this place!

We were expecting something a bit different considering that it is a Michelin restaurant. The food was good but not spectacular... The service was very good, we were served gluten-free bread without additional charge which was very nice and the 'menu de la casa' includes a whole bottle of wine which did surprise us because in most of the places it is just a glass of wine, not the whole bottle :) overall experience is good but could be better in terms of food variety even in a simple menu.

A great child-friendly restaurant that serves traditional food in generous portions and which is fantastic value for money. We went for the 19€ menu which includes a starter (delicious croquetas), salad, 2 courses, bread, drinks and pudding. Best cuajada I've ever had! A must! What a great town too.

We tried to come for three years and this time we were lucky. The restaurant is nicely decorated, you feel home and the service was very kind and focused. Now to the best : the food ! Simply fantastic and delicious. We had the Savor De Ruta and every dish was a great discovery.

The best cooked lamb shoulder I’ve ever had. Wine from a variety of Spanish locations curated to the tee. Well studied menus that carefully incorporate vegetables and meat. All of this at one of the most honest and favourable price to quality ratios I’ve encountered.

One of the best meals we had on our trip through Spain. It is what you hope for when visiting the small villages.. We had lunch menu.. Iberian ham cheeses.. Roast lamb perfect.. Wine and a desert similar to semolina... Simple.. but the flavour was fantastic.. The service was excellent... Friendly. Good natured patient while we got translations...this place restored our faith after being in many average places on our travels.. A real gem

Really delicious food. We had the €21 lunch menu. Superb. Very welcoming and friendly waitresses. Busy and we were lucky to get a table.

Menu del dia 21€ including wine. Embutidos were some of the best we've tasted. Really well cooked food, delicious flavours and, overall, excellent value for money.
