Wassenaar in 3 days

If you only have 3 days to spend in Wassenaar, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Wassenaar is an affluent coastal town known for its long sandy beaches and extensive dune landscapes, popular for cycling and walking. The nearby Duinrell amusement park and waterpark make it a frequent choice for families. Historic estates and wooded parks give the area a stately, green character, while the town center offers relaxed cafés and boutiques. Its location between The Hague and Leiden also makes it a convenient base for exploring major Dutch cultural sights.
With favorites like Van der Valk Hotel Den Haag - Wassenaar, Pannenkoekenhuis ’s-Gravesande, and Mauritshuis, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Flamingo Paradise and Boerderij Meyendel so you can get the best taste of Wassenaar while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Madurodam is an interactive park featuring miniature models of Dutch buildings, landmarks, and daily life. The park showcases famous attractions such as the Binnenhof/Parliament, Peace Palace, and Noordeinde Palace in a 1:25 scale setting. Visitors can explore replicas of windmills, markets, museums, and even witness a harbor fire being extinguished. With pathways and tram tracks creating a sprawling village atmosphere, Madurodam offers an immersive experience for all ages.
We recently visited Madurodam in The Hague, and our entire family had a fantastic time! It was perfect outing for both the adults and kids. This park is more than just miniature models; it's a interactive and educational experience. Our child loved being able to push buttons, make things move, and participate in the various activities throughout the park. It was a brilliant way to see the Netherlands' history and landmarks come to life in a way that engages younger visitors. For the adults, we appreciated the clever use of technology to make the exhibits feel dynamic. It offers a wonderful, bite-sized overview of the country's highlights. If you're looking for an outing that keeps everyone entertained and teaches them something new, Madurodam is a must-see.

I absolutely loved this place. The simulations were so amazing. I lo ed the historic stories told and the entire set up, is genius. A great place for kids but for adults alike. Its so interesting and there is so much to see, time will pass by and you would have spent almost an entire day. The best time to go is from when they open at 10.

It's a fun place to see the highly detailed miniature Dutch, Amsterdam - cityscapes, buildings, architecture, churches, airports, wind farms, wind mills, Canal systems, functional railway track and different trains running around, traffic vehicles moving on the road, ships, boats moving in the water... It was a fun time.. different big bridges recreated where it feels like a small overpass that you walk on, it's a fun get away

Whatta love place to have meal after a fantastic exploration of the Holland miniature park! I highly recommend this tourist spot in the Netherland, The gardens are beautiful well maintained and well worth it a must to see. Brilliant place I was enjoying every single moment there. Toilets are clean. Staffs are lovely and friendly.

Great experience for adults and kids. Plenty of interactive setups to keep the kids engaged and interested, while admiring the great miniature cities. There are also other experiences scattered within the park. Good - clean - interactive and engaging activities - park for kids and adults - impressive miniature landmarks - facilities (toilets, restaurants, playgrounds)

Madurodam was my favorite experience during my entire trip to the Netherlands. I loved exploring the miniature versions of Dutch cities and landmarks. It felt like traveling through the whole country in just a few hours. My favorite parts were steering the ships through the canals, controlling the helicopter, and interacting with the fun exhibits like attracting the fishes. The park is very well designed, with so many details that bring Dutch history, architecture, and culture to life. It’s both educational and entertaining, making it a great place for families, couples, or solo travelers. I would recommend it as one of the first stops for tourists visiting the Netherlands. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Parking was a little pricey, but that might just be my perspective as a visitor from abroad. Overall, I would definitely like to return and see it again.

Loved it, what a wonderful piece of art, that Is amazing, every zone has its own beauty, moreover nothing is less but plane ✈️ experience inside it is out standing, a must go place to bring you child here. There is also a shall canteen to have some light snacks and a souvenir shop is also there to bring some gifts. Overall a wonderful experience, but remember you must spare enough time to go there because it needs almost half day to complete it properly if you are a detail lover.
ABHISHEK J — Google review
highly recommend a visit, there are several machines you can pay to get miniatures out, we got a tulip pin bash and there is a mini mars bar factory that gives you 2 mini mars bars, they take cash and card. we would definitely visit again, came as part of a bus tour and got 1.5hrs and unfortunately wasn’t long enough to see everything in detail, would definitely visit again

Located on the boulevard of Scheveningen, near the Kurhaus and just a stone's throw away from Circustheater, Grand Cafe - Restaurant Westewind offers a delightful dining experience with a view of the beautiful sea. The restaurant provides an opportunity to bask in the sun on its terrace during summer while enjoying delicious food and drinks. Originally built as a circus venue in 1904, Circustheater has evolved into one of the most renowned theaters in the Netherlands.
The relaxed performance (or prikkelarm in Dutch) was very well organised. I was very pleased that a special event like was organised. The client I was with was totally enthralled by the whole performance. The actors were really great too not letting themselves be distracted by anything happening in the audience. The audience were given some regulations to stick to and this worked generally really well. The ushers were super patient and friendly with everything getting all kinds of things sorted and making sure everything went as smoothly as possible. Kudos and kudos to everyone that made this happen. Also special kudos to those organising the make a wish foundation! Thank you We went a 2nd time and this time to a normal performance. Again kudos to the actors, the orchestra, all the people behind scenes doing hard work, the amazing ushers going the extra mile to help us out with the special walker taking real good care of it. These people this theatre absolutely 100/10 recommend. Shame the show is stopping. Its such a beautiful spectacle

We went here to watch the musical Disney frozen. The environment is very good and the staff is also very kind. There is delicious high tea and coffee during the intermission. The most important thing is that the stage play is very shocking and memorable. It is very close to the beach, and you can go to the beach after watching it. However, the parking fee is too expensive.
J C — Google review
Visited many times already enjoying beautiful musicals and hopefully will enjoy many more. Travel by car is absolutely possible however if you can use the public transport it gives you a lot more ease due to parking spots availability. Friendly staff and well looked after theater. Close to the beach, boulevard and a nice shopping area including a wide choice of restaurants that will give you some lovely options to spend your day.

The incredible energy of the dancers, these sensations and emotions, especially coming from the male dancers, cannot be described in words. And this is something you will remember for a long time. Search and enjoy the emotions.

The play is 4/5 I guess it could use some improvements. Staff very organized. Entry and exit procedures very neat and smooth. However, i am rating the theater as a facility. The seats are too bad, condition were ok. But type and style i guess belongs to the 80’s. No much space, for someone to slide in a whole row shall stand to let a person pass. Such efforts made by actors should be rewarded with an up to date theater.
F. M — Google review
We saw The Lion King on Broadway at this theatre over the weekend. The production was absolutely amazing. High quality sound with live orchestra and singing. The seats are typically theatre seats, no drink holders. The staff are Professional and friendly. Book your show as far in advance as possible to select your seating preference.

On the second day of Christmas, we went to the musical Aïda. What was the cast GOOD and extremely talented. With each song, I got goosebumps! Circustheather itself was very nicely decorated for Christmas. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They also have an arrangement with a few parking garages in the surrounding area. For a fixed price, you can park the car there up till 8 hours after driving in. Which is perfect for lunch before a show or dinner after a show. The seats were comfortable, and the temperature inside was nice. However, during the break, you have only 15 minutes to go to the toilet and grab something to drink/eat. The lines were long, and not everybody who wanted something got the chance because the break flies by so quickly. In other venues, they have an arrangement where drinks are already on a table for everyone to take one, perhaps they do this on purpose so you will buy their own break arrangement..

Nature & Parks
Sea Life Scheveningen is a family-friendly aquarium located in The Hague's seaside district. Since its opening in 1991, it has been home to a diverse array of marine species from around the globe, including sharks, rays, sea turtles, and tropical fish. The aquarium features thematic areas representing various marine habitats such as coral reefs, the Atlantic Ocean, and the North Sea.
A very interesting aquatic museum. At the entrance, the little ones receive a map and participate in a mysterious treasure hunt while visiting the museum. In a projection room, they can draw and see how their drawings come to life once they have been scanned.
Oana M — Google review
Very, very impressive. I didn't expect to see such a big variety of fish. Don't hesitate to visit this aquarium. For kids this will be a big waw!
Dumitru D — Google review
A very small sea life . I spent 20 minutes there. I was disappointed. A dozen or so years ago, there were jellyfish, but now there are none. It's a great attraction for small children. As an adult, I felt somewhat dissatisfied.
Queen — Google review
Sea Life in Scheveningen was a fun experience. The aquariums were accompanied with interesting information on the inhabitants and the ecosystems they usually live in. My personal highlight was the otter, I could have spent hours watching that little guy groom, take a swim, relax.
Stephanie P — Google review
Quite interesting for the kids, stylized interior, one can take pictures as souvenirs then printed or as magnets in the souvenir shop at the exit.
Anna M — Google review
It was a great experience with a wide variety of fish and sea creatures. It’s very well presented. A bit small for the ticket price, but still worth a visit.

Fully recommended. I did enjoy my visiting. Super well organized, since the moment they welcome you at the entrance. Every description on the walls is bilingual, the staff as well. They have feeding of the animals every hour at different locations. A huge variety of animals. Well treated. Interactive and not boring at all.

Flamingo Paradise is a delightful dining establishment that offers a set meal for two, consisting of a starter and dessert. The food is not only delicious but also diverse, with a pleasing presentation. The wine selection is excellent as well. While the coziness may be lacking in some areas, there are other parts of the restaurant that provide a more intimate atmosphere. The overall ambiance is beautiful, especially the outdoor area. The attentive staff adds to the wonderful experience, providing great service.
This is really a top notch restaurant with authentic Indonesian food at high standards. Beautiful spacious interior and friendly and professional service. I didn't have to pay, so can't comment on price...

We had Sunday lunch. Food was delicious, better than I expected, as an Indonesian, I'm very picky with Indonesian food here. I was really surprised that the food was as good as original Indonesian food. Service was wonderful. Very friendly and quick service. I will definitely come back.

An amazing dinner experience. It gas been a while since I liked everything in a restaurant from the food, the service & ambiance. The owner and his wife are delightful and the food is splendid. The location of the restaurant is great as it’s only 4 or 5 kilometres from the centre of The Hague yet it feels like it’s away from the hustle and bustle that busy centre. A truly must tray.
Salah A — Google review
I've been eating here for over 40 years, the food, ambience and staff have always been exceptional, my favourite restaurant in the Hague by some margin and I wholeheartedly recommend anyone to try it.

This is by far the best restaurant in The Hague area, and one of the best I have ever been to. Atmosphere Service And most importantly the quality of the food. Not a single mistake If you get confused on what to order, do like me and let them take care of that :)

Self service restaurant
The restaurant Boerderij Meyendel is tucked away in a quiet corner of the city, and it's easy to see why. Everything about the place is self-service, from taking beer out of the fridge to balancing pancakes on a plastic tray. This can be nice, but it's not enough to make this spot anything special.
Just picked up this delicious summer salad and am thoroughly enjoying the calm and quaint experience this Pannenkoekenboerderij always provides. I’ve been coming here for years, with the children and as a secret escape on my own. It’s always such a treat and the people are super friendly and genuine. Extra insiders tip: check out the back terrace which can be less busy at times. This place is dog-friendly and is a wonderful destination for the whole family, all year round.
Jessica W — Google review
It is an ok place. Self-service. The atmosphere is nice, since you are in the middle of nature. Food is mediocre: pancakes could be better for its price. Dutch people might argue, but I think from a hygienic perspective, I would not like the staff to put the bowl with toppings right away onto the pancake, when they serve the plate.
A B — Google review
Very generous portions! It was huuugeeee! You get a lot for the price. We had the hunter's meal and the bread with eggs, both would have fed the both of us. The bacon is salty. The fries were nice. All in all we enjoy our time here after a long hike.
E. L — Google review
Great place to have a beer and a snack during your beach/dunes day. They have a big menu with pancakes as well.
Diederik D — Google review
Great atmosphere, and the location is great. Lack of other alternatives made the service (self-service) quite bad. Crew walking around, yet seemingly doing nothing at all but talk to one another. Tables not cleaned on time. I mean they could at least take some orders instead. The food was good, nice portions, but it is more of a fast food restaurant quality. The meatball is quite salty, and it comes with two slices of bread instead of a bun. I loved the fries. I don't think any of the things we ordered are made fresh (except the salad side dish), but it was ok.
JP F — Google review
Great place with a good variety of Dutch pancakes, located right in the middle of the dunes. The only drawback is the number of wasps, which can make eating outside a bit stressful
Konstantin K — Google review
Really nice atmosphere, awesome for the kids. Tasteful food. It was just a little too crowded, but maybe we weren't so lucky by going on a sunny springbreak Sunday.

Duinrell is a popular theme park complex in Wassenaar that has been a favorite outing for 80 years. What started as a modest family park with just a restaurant and a few attractions has now grown into a large amusement park with over 40 thrilling rides and the largest water park in the Benelux, Tikibad. This water paradise features an array of attractions including wave pools, whirlpools, lazy rivers, heated outdoor pools, and an impressive 21 water slides.
Fun and enjoyable amusement park with a kind of retro touch. Fun for hours for all ages. Arcade hall is a nice cherry on the top.

A big nice place with lots of rides to hangout for kids. Well enjoyed by adults also, this place gives you an option to stay overnight and there are water pools to enjoy in summers which are at extra cost. The place is well connected with public transport. The place needs slightly more attention towards hygiene. Must visit.
Shivam C — Google review
A nice theme park with a variety of rides to suit all ages. Also, the park has a water park inside it which is what makes it unique. The park itself is not too big and queues are not too long either. A day inside is usually sufficient.
Eli S — Google review
It’s a nice place for children to spend a full day, with lots of attractions and also a water park. You can buy separate tickets for the attractions or the water park, or a combined ticket. I bought the combined tickets. We spent the day from morning until 5:00 in the attractions, then went to the water park. The water park has both indoor and outdoor options, but the indoor one is much more fun. The only downside is the price—I think it’s a bit too high. I paid around €39 per person.

What a cracking day!!! Had fun from start to finish the guy operating the pirate ship was fantastic and went the extra mile. Very clean park not to busy food was ok prices were fine. 9.5/10. My only criticism and again it’s small is the toilets all close early even when the park is very busy.

We have came to duinrell on a number of occasions and every single time it reaches our expectations if not even higher and we will be back for the 6th time in the near future! Duinrell has a fantastic theme park which is suitable for all ages with a variety of different levels of thrill. The tiki bad waterpark is an excellent waterpark with loads of different and unique slides to anywhere else. I like how you can go late at night with the slots. This is perfect for a relaxing evening. The fully equipped park on site is open until really late so if your children want to stay for a little bit longer than they have the opportunity to. The staff are really friendly and you can even hire go karts and bikes. On site there is the superstore and pizza shop and restaurants even with a bowling alley, and bar with entertainment. The accommodation are great with fully working showers and the beds are comfy.

The Pier SkyView, located at the end of the Scheveningen pier, offers breathtaking views of the ocean and coastline. This giant ferris wheel stands 50 meters above sea level and provides an unforgettable experience with its private gondolas for afternoon tea or a romantic SkyDinner. The sunset views from this vantage point are particularly stunning, making it a perfect spot for couples.
Great view and it feels like a little adventure - when you are up and surrounded by the sea. Ride is approx. for 13-14 minutes. Tickets can be bought on the spot, there is a queue but the wait is not long.

Fabulous bird view. Stunning as the sky was clear blue. Magical. Also. Have a stroll on the boulevard and treat yourself to a lovely dinner on the “strip”. Especially when the evening start and lights illuminate the beautiful beach.

We've done similar attractions that were nicer like the one in Montreal and The Eye in London. Felt more professional. This felt a bit like a carnival ride. Nice enough, love that the pods are air conditioned but they could use a cleaning. Othe people may enjoy this event more than we did. Wasn't awful, wast great. The surrounding area is also a bit jersey shore to me. Just not our thing.

We visited The Pier SkyView and it was such a special experience. The views over the sea and beach were absolutely stunning, and the cozy cabins made the ride extra comfortable. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a memorable moment by the sea!

Opened in 2016, this is Europe’s first Ferris wheel built over the sea, rising about eight meters above the North Sea. With a height of around 45 meters, it offers sweeping views of the coastline and the city skyline. A ride lasts between 12 and 20 minutes, making it a perfect way to take in the scenery. Sunset is an especially romantic time to enjoy the experience.

Museum
Nestled in The Hague, the Omniversum is a unique IMAX Dome Theatre that promises an extraordinary cinematic adventure. With its massive curved screen that envelops viewers, this theater offers an immersive experience like no other, showcasing stunning nature films and captivating documentaries. The sound quality enhances the realism, making you feel as if you're truly part of the scenes unfolding before you. It's a perfect outing for families and nature enthusiasts alike!
Fun and interactive museum + theatre! Kids will find it fun, as a young adult myself i enjoyed it. The theatre is showing imax film on curved screen (as i uploaded) and the museum changes it sub-themes every couple months: but the main theme remains the same - earth, people, and sustainable feature. Worth the money i’d say

Went to see a really nice movie about fungi and forests. While still impressive, the projection technology seems to be showing its age with rather blurry picture quality and low brightness compared to current day cinema tech. Your eyes do adjust to it if you're used to IMAX theaters. On a 28C day the viewing hall was surprisingly hot with no AC in the hall itself. Luckily we had some hand fans which made it a lot more bearable. The cinema store was cute and the staff while inexperienced were very polite. Had a nice experience, but for 17 euro admission I'd only come back if they improved their tech.

Impressive Experience at Omniversum Den Haag! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Omniversum Den Haag is a must-visit! The dome-style theatre offers a unique and immersive movie-watching experience you won’t find anywhere else. We watched OCEAN, narrated by David Attenborough — a stunning and powerful film. While we had hoped it would fill the entire dome ceiling, it was still an incredible visual journey. The sound and screen quality are top-notch, and the atmosphere really draws you in. Highly recommend for families, tourists, and anyone looking for something special in The Hague!

An unique experience. I didn't realize the dome where you view the movies is in the back of the complex and you have to walk around the entire museum to get to it(see photo). I saw the "Celebration of Pink Floyd’s legendary album Dark side of the Moon." I was expecting a music video or video set to The Dark side of the Moon. However, this was something completely different. This was more like a few artists' take on the album. The songs were remixed and set to very trippy visuals, that is really the only way to describe it. It almost felt like someone had left on the visualizer from an old Microsoft media player at times.

This place is amazing!! I didn't expect it to be this cool. We took a 10am session to see the turtle odyssey and it was beautiful. Smartly only 47 min because my toddler was already at his end. Then I went to the museum because the ticket came together. And oh boy I didn't expect so many interactive and fun things to do! So worth the 17 euros! Other places charge you so much and offer so little. Just some tips: food could have more options and healthier ones. Also some interactive things were not well explained. The session with "men evolution " could have a warning sign. It's quite frightening for a small kid. Other than that had a great time and didn't want to leave!

It was really amazing! The film was just out of this world! We watched animal kingdom and it was really amazing. There's a lot of activities in the museum for the kids and for the adults to enjoy with their kids. Definitely recommend going!

The exhibition is great! The idea of illustrating "sustainable development" is wonderful! But it's not technically well thought out. Young and older children study the questions, but soon they get tired of "thinking through" them and just run around the room, punching holes in a card slot machine without really understanding the topic. It's a bit sad.... Also we enjoyed the film in the cinema! And the museum is connected to the art gallery by a simple glass corridor! So you can simply walk there without going outside, but you'll need to buy other tickets, of course!

We tried Mesmerica in 3D dome. It was music and some 3D shapes. Requested to be there 45min earlier but didn't have any point as we needed to wait on the stairs till they open the door. In general was good to try but by looking at the ticket price didn't have much content.

Pancake restaurant
Pannenkoekenhuis offers an extensive selection of both sweet and savory pancakes, accompanied by a decent beer selection. While the sweet pancakes are highly recommended, the savory options are also available. The location is conveniently situated just outside of Duinrell and surrounded by beautiful tulip pots, providing a picturesque setting for enjoying a meal. Visitors praise the delicious farmer's pancake and appreciate the friendly staff.
We stayed at Duinrell and fancied a change of scenery, enjoyed a delicious meal here as a party of 2 adults and 3 children under 12 years old. The service was exemplary and quick, pancake variety was impressive and they were delicious, and the burger was excellent too. Lovely calm atmosphere in the outdoor seating area of the restaurant and the staff were lovely too.Highly recommended, thank you.

Had an early dinner here while staying in Duinrell. Arrived at 16.50.we had to wait 10 mins before they would take an order for "after 5pm" items. Food was okay but drinks were very expensive. 7.50 for large Heineken. No tap water and a still bottle of 750ml was 7 euro. They try sell extras on the burgers and asked if I wanted mayo or ketchup with my chips which were included with my burger. Mayo appeared as 1.50 extra on the receipt. Won't be rushing back.
Gar J — Google review
Plenty of different pancake choices - sweet and savoury - and tasted good. Typical Dutch fare and should not be missed.
Ton D — Google review
Massive choice of both savoury and sweet pancakes. Beer choice isn't bad either with a couple of options beyond the basics. In my experience the sweet ones were better than the savoury. We had asked to get the bill and sat waiting for some time and ended up walking inside and going to the cash register directly. I did see someone else paying by card at their table so not sure what the norm is. I overheard staff saying inside seating was pre-booked only, it was 100% empty inside on my visit but they would not allow others to sit there for staffing reasons they said. There is on street parking available opposite.
Daniel M — Google review
Great food here and would recommend. The mini pancakes for dessert were the star. The very small and expensive drinks take this restaurant down a notch. Dutch tap water is perfectly drinkable and so when I’ve already ordered 4x €3.25 200ml soft drinks, asking for some glasses of tap water is reasonable. €7 for 750ml water is something I might accept at a Michelin restaurant in Amsterdam. Not here.

Restaurant
I took a brief pause from my museum visit and quickly ordered coffee, coquette, and sweets at Restaurant Voorlinden. The vegan coquette was delectable, while the lemon cake was both visually appealing and delicious. However, the hall's noise level dampened the experience, possibly exacerbated by poor interior acoustics. The location and price receive a satisfactory rating of 4 for being aligned with restaurants in less picturesque areas.
I have never been to a museum restaurant/ cafe that was actually good and affordable, till now! The food, hot drinks, and cakes were all tasty. And the staff are all so lovely and welcoming.
Quyen P — Google review
The restaurant was very busy and we had to wait to be seated. Yet even though we were a party of six they prepared a table quickly for us. The house used to be inhabited by a (wealthy) British family and has now been turned into a restaurant. The acoustics are not ideal, it can by loud at times, but it does bring some liveliness to place. The food is good, the quantity more than enough. Some of our party had a quiche, others had the mackerel, or the beyond burger or the Caesar salad. We topped that with some seasonal beers and sparkling water. No one regretted their choice :) the desserts were actually not bad at all; some of us had the berry dessert others the lemon meringue cake. We had a nice lunch among friends here!
Patrice K — Google review
We were seated in a drafty side room which looked like an after thought as the main dining room was busy. The staff was friendly and tried to help but was badly trained and informed. We had to collect our own menus, the server didnt clear without us asking, we had to wait to pay etc. They have many options for veggies and vegans but no clue about allergens. Many sandwiches listed as gluten free were listed on the allergen menu as containing gluten. The server said that she "thought" the mayonnaise wasn't gluten free, she "thought" the cake listed gluten free wasn't safe. I decided not to order 🤣
Jantien K — Google review
We went for a really quick break from visiting the museum. The waiter helped us to get our order (coffee, coquette, and sweets) very quickly 👍 Vegan coquette was delicious and the lemon cake was beautiful and tasty. It was very noisy in the hall though, maybe the inside acoustics also did nothing to alleviate that.

We almost skipped this place because of the mixed reviews, but hunger convinced us to give it a try, and I’m so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious, made with great quality ingredients, and very reasonably priced. On top of that, the setting itself is beautiful. Honestly, it’s probably the best food I’ve ever had in a museum
Kinga K — Google review
Unfortunately, we did not enjoy eating there. The food was not convincing at all - it was not tasting good (celery soup & pumpkin sandwitch & banana cake). The soup and sandwitch were missing taste. The cake was full of sugar and not tasting well… On one side, building interior is really nice, on the other side - tables & seats were not very clean (seats covered by crumbs). The service was quite fast, but the waitresses were sometimes making really ugly face expressions when they were leaving guest´s tables… There is definitely a huge potential in this place, but currently offered food & services are poor. :(

For day 3, we recommend exploring the southwest side side of town. Start the day off with Mauritshuis, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Family park Drievliet. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Mauritshuis is a government collection in The Hague, Netherlands, featuring hundreds of Dutch paintings including works by renowned artists like Rembrandt and Vermeer.
A bit crowded, but fantastic collection of Dutch painters. The atmosphere and space is just amazing. The gallery is not that huge, I think you can go through in an hour. I highly recommend to download the app before you go.

Visited Mauritshuis, a very well-known museum located in The Hague, near the Binnenhof. The first interesting thing I learned is that Mauritshuis actually means “Maurits’ house”, which is quite fascinating! However, behind the beauty of the building, the story of how its fortune was built is not entirely pleasant. However I won’t spoil it, because you should visit and find out yourself! This museum is also home to the iconic “Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Johannes Vermeer. Fun fact: we might not even be sure it’s an earring, as it doesn’t appear to be hooked! Another remarkable painting is “View of Delft”, also by Vermeer, which holds a special place in my heart since we live nearby and it carries meaningful memories. We even bought a puzzle of that painting, surprisingly affordable for something sold in such a prestigious museum! During our visit, there was also a live Q&A about painting restoration, where they were working on “The Bull” by Paulus Potter. It was fascinating to see how restoration combines art, material and chemical engineering, ethics, and history. For instance, The Bull was taken during the French occupation of the Netherlands, and at some point, a nail scratch was added to the painting. The big question is: do you fix it, restore it, or keep it as part of history? You decide! You can also download the Mauritshuis app and enjoy a free audio guide directly from your phone. I recommend bringing your own headset for the best experience. Overall, a truly great and thought-provoking experience, so I highly recommended!

A small but nice museum with a collection of beautiful paintings. I went there to see the Girl with the Pearl Earring. It was interesting to watch experts clean up one of the paintings. Staff are friendly & helpful, the museum & facilities are clean and the shop has nice souvenirs. You can buy your tickets at the reception as well as leave your coat and bags.

On a per square foot basis, this relatively small museum in the Hague might be the very best art museum in the world. The number of amazing masterpieces from the Dutch is nothing short of stunning. The ability to get close to them is even more wonderful, although people have to abuse this privilege by trying to vandalize the paintings with desserts and other terrible things. From start to finish, we were absolutely stunned by the quality and intimacy of this place. That someone who doesn’t even love art all that much, I fell in love with it.
David S — Google review
We were iffy about going here but saw it listed as maybe the top attraction in den Haag we ponied up and I enjoyed the very impressive detail of so many paintings from around 1600s then seeing Rubens and Rembrandt I was able to see what made them different and special - luminescence and stuff so that was interesting. To save walking up the steps there is a lift but the trick is the button is on top of the post outside not on the wall so if you’re looking on the wall you’ll never find the button for the lift.
Ultimobile — Google review
The Mauritshuis is a beautifully curated museum with an exceptional collection, including several world-famous paintings like Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring and Rembrandt’s The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp. The galleries are intimate and thoughtfully arranged, which makes it easy to appreciate each masterpiece up close. However, the museum is quite small, and the ticket price feels a bit high for the amount of time you can comfortably spend inside. Even so, the quality of the artwork and the elegance of the building make it a memorable and worthwhile visit.

We spent a Saturday evening here, 2hours before closing! It was the perfect amount of time we needed for our weekend in The Hague! What a showstopper museum!! Gorgeous building, and the art is just marvellous 🤩 The girl with the pearl earring was just the icing on the cake! The display of the restoration of one of the pieces was very enjoyable! Thank you 🙏🏾 Highly recommended!

"Escher in the Palace" is a permanent exhibition located in the former royal winter palace on Lange Voorhout in The Hague. This grand building now showcases the graphic artworks of M.C. Escher, a renowned Dutch artist known for his precise and bewildering works. The exhibition features a comprehensive collection of Escher's woodcuts, lithographs, and other pieces from various stages of his career, offering insight into his unique blending of different perspectives and mathematical rules with artistic subject matter.
An absolutely fascinating museum! The presentation of Escher’s work is outstanding — each piece is worth your time and your thoughts. Highlights include Metamorphosis III, an extraordinary 7-meter-long masterpiece that flows seamlessly from one image to another, and the mesmerizing Circle Limit series, where Escher’s genius for blending art and mathematics truly shines. The illusions room is a delight, letting you step into the kind of visual paradoxes that made Escher world-famous. A perfect blend of art, geometry, and imagination — not to be missed when in The Hague.

Amazing artworks told and explained very well. I especially enjoyed the method which documented Escher's life and work - very elegant. The decision to display his works in the palace was well made, the architecture is splendid and wonderous.

If you're into architectural signs, you'll be amazed—it's like stepping into this museum! Truly stunning and beyond your wildest dreams. I spent two hours there, but honestly, it wasn’t enough to take in all the amazing creativity. It’s absolutely fantastic!

I personally find the designs inspirational and so different from other art. The intricate carving of wood for the prints is amazing and must have taken so much time and effort to achieve that I find his designs awe-inspiring and beautifully detailed. The museum, housed in the mansion of Queen Emma of the Netherlands is interesting in it's own right and worth seeing, so you get 2 for the price of 1! Definitely worth a visit!

This place bends your brain in the best way possible. It’s M.C. Escher, so yes, the famous “stairs that go nowhere” are here, along with loads of other works (including some I’d never seen before). Honestly, I half expected to walk out of the museum upside down. The ticket price is refreshingly reasonable (rare in The Hague, where even a coffee can feel like modern art). I’d definitely go again. Tip: go in the morning, there’s so much to see that if you arrive late, your head will be spinning from illusions and from fatigue. Bring curiosity, maybe a coffee, and prepare to wonder if the gift shop exit is actually the entrance.
Teunis S — Google review
Beautiful museum! Extensive collection and enjoyed the interactive parts at the end on the top floor. They have free lockers for your bags, a cafe downstairs, and clean bathrooms.

All round good exhibit in an historic house. Who doesn't love Escher? If you don't, this isn't for you. If you do you'll find lots of prints and background. Many of the prints are marked "eigen druk" which means "my own print." Would have been nice if they'd cracked a few windows... Lockers are in basement and use fake coins they hand out. Bathroom was decent.

The museum is located in a former palace. During your visit, you can not only view an exceptional collection of Escher’s works, but also learn more about the royal family and their way of life. The exhibition display is well thought out.

Panorama Mesdag is an art museum showcasing the impressive panoramic beach painting by 19th-century artist Hendrik Mesdag. The circular painting offers a naturalistic depiction of the beach at Scheveningen as it appeared in 1881, skillfully capturing lighting and perspective. Visitors can appreciate the work from a central viewing platform. Additionally, nearby at the Mesdag Collection, more of Mesdag's land- and seascapes are on display, providing further insight into his artistic prowess.
It's a surreal experience to see a life-like panoramic painting from the view point (hut) supposedly on a sanddune in a beach overlooking beach and sea on one side and old Den Haag city on the other side. From the viewpoint, the cealing of the painting is not visible at the top and the bottom of the painting smoothly transitions and merges into the beach sanddune setting around the viewing spot... So we don't see where the painting actually stops and the actual sand begins... unless we squint. And the natural lighting makes it all the more realistic, and the painting is at optimal distance that we barely feel any parallax, at the same time we don't see any brush strokes, making it very much real.
Gautham V — Google review
The 360 painting mixed with real objects give you such a surreal experience. Spend your time to take a look at the painting. The details on the painting is amazing. We are looking it wasn't busy so we get to really see the whole thing. Personally I do think its worth the 16 just to see this painting. Don't forget there are also other exhibition on ground floor. The place is not big though.
Yiqiang X — Google review
Panorama Mesdag is the largest painting in the Netherlands. The museum's collection includes the works of Mr. and Mrs. Mesdag, both painters. One hall is allocated to temporary exhibitions. The panorama is beautiful and realistic, you feel like you actually live in the 19th century. Definitely recommended.
Banu D — Google review
This is a really interesting art museum. The Panorama painting is vast and the setup where the viewer is in a kind of beach lookout hut which looks out over real sand and beach props which cleverly stretch out to trick the eye into thinking you're shortage actually in the painting for real

Located in The Hague, Family park Drievliet is a popular destination for families seeking a day of thrilling rides and delightful attractions. From heart-pounding roller coasters to gentle rides suitable for young children, the park offers a wide range of entertainment options. In addition to the exciting rides, visitors can also enjoy entertaining shows such as the Jungle Show and pirate spectacle at the Parktheater.
A very nice family friendly park with attraction for all ages. As soon as your kid is 100 cm it can try almost all attractions together with a grown-up. Just a very few are from 140 cm on. Great park to visit with children in different ages.

Overall, we had an enjoyable day. I visited with my 3-year-old son (under 1 meter tall), and there were enough attractions suitable for his age group. The park is well thought out for small children. A few practical notes: The lockers weren’t working, and the park is quite large. If you’re coming with extra belongings, I recommend bringing something to help you carry them easily, a stroller can be very helpful, even if you think your child won’t need it much. The women’s toilets near the restaurant area were insufficient; it’s better to use the ones in other parts of the park. I suggest arriving early in the morning and starting from the far end of the park, going against the general flow. That way, you’ll avoid long queues at the first attractions.

Drievliet is a fun and well-organized amusement park, especially ideal for families with children. While I personally enjoyed the visit, most of the rides and attractions are clearly designed with younger kids in mind. It’s a great place for a relaxed day out, but adults seeking thrill rides might find the options limited. That said, there are still a few exciting rides for older visitors, like the fast roller coaster Formule X, the wild mouse-style ride Kopermijn, the spinning coaster Twistrix, and the powered coaster Dynamite Express. Additionally, adults can enjoy rides like Nautilus, a swinging and spinning attraction, and Draaikolk, a fast-turning ride. As a whole, it’s a highly recommended destination for families with kids.

Great place to spend a day with the little ones. I really apreciated that most of the atractions were spitale for my 3.5 yo. And the ones for the older children were truely enjoyable. Also I loved the fact that the park is quite compact and don't spend a lot of time walking between the atractions, and thus we managed to enjoy almost all the atractions during one day, some even more times. Another plus was that there were no big ques (we spent maximum 10-15 minutes for the most atractive, although we went in full vacation sezon). All in all, a perfect alternative to biserica and more famous atraction parks in The Netherlands and around.

We went as a group of 8 people, including 2 toddlers, and we loved it. The size of the park is just the right size, not too big, not too small. Perfect for families with children (as the name suggests, familypark). There are enough rides for children (in our case, toddlers) to enjoy. We especially appreciated the water play park. The only minus thing is the food, there were not enough choices, and very expensive. So, I would suggest bringing your own food and snacks!

Overall we had an okay day, but that was only because I am someone who's glass is always half full! Because what happend? . Me and my daughter got stuck in the owl 🦉 ride, our car suddenly started smoking really bad and the machinist truly was not able to handle correct in that moment. I was able to put my daughter (4y) out of the car and let her wait with my oldest.. as soon as I knew they were save, I focused on the women next to me. Who was in a panic attack. With some breath work and guidance, I was able to calm her down. 2) after this, I made the decision to calm down with some food! 3 sodas and 3 sandwishes were €30. Crazy! And it wasn't even good, had to throw away the sandwich with cheese. 3) other malfunctioning attractions were also part of our experience. Which did not make us feel safe. Conclusion, we had fun. But I would not go back, as it is clearly not a safe park to go to. Be careful.

Suppose this last weekends was Halloween 🎃 celebration but they have nothing. Barely banners of Halloween and a 2 things related to Halloween. We came specially to celebrate. But not worth it. The atracciones look old or need manteinace and some paint , for the price I find there are better pret parks. And for Halloween this is not the place.

We went there on Sunday 13/7 10:45 and it was amazing! Not busy at all, jumping in every game almost instantly! There are plenty of games for all tastes, fast and slow, high and low. There are also enough tables to sit and enjoy a lunch from home or from the snack bar over there. In general it’s highly recommended especially if the kids are taller than 130cm.

A rare blend of luxury and thoughtful design—especially the vanity space, which felt like a private beauty lounge. I stayed in one of the Executive rooms for a birthday stay-cation, and I was genuinely impressed. The entire space felt calm, luxurious, and incredibly well-designed—but the bathroom was the true standout. It featured a beautiful rain shower, a freestanding soaking tub, and something I rarely see in hotels: a dedicated vanity space separate from the sink area. As someone who enjoys getting ready slowly and with intention, this was such a thoughtful and elegant touch. The lighting was perfect, the layout spacious, and it felt like having my own little dressing room. Beyond the bathroom, the room itself was equally impressive—king-size bed, walk-in closet, coffee and tea setup, and a lovely terrace for morning air. Every detail felt intentional and indulgent. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind in a space that feels both luxurious and personal.

Lovely hotel with great decor. We had the family room with 2 separate bedrooms and that really suited us. Breakfast is amazing; choice of sausages, eggs, bacon, omelettes made whilst you wait, croissants, fruit, yogurt and of course continental options. Even sparkling wine. A 24 hour shop next to reception is really handy.

Our stay at the hotel was absolutely perfect! Our room was beautiful, clean, and had all of the amenities we could have hoped for! We stayed for two nights and everything went perfectly! The hotel itself was beautiful, clean, well decorated and calm. The breakfast buffet had all we could have hoped for, and we booked the Saturday night buffet which was also excellent! The food was delicious and the service was excellent! A special mention for Mandy, our waitress, who was sweet, helpful, and professional! All in all we had an amazing stay and will definitely be staying here next time we come to Den Haag! Five stars all the way! - William and Charlize

A Disastrous Experience – Avoid at All Costs We booked a one-night stay at Van der Valk Hotel Den Haag - Wassenaar due to our daughter's exam in a nearby town. Regrettably, this turned out to be the most appalling hotel experience we've had in years. Room Deception The room we received bore no resemblance to the images advertised. It was outdated, poorly maintained, and emitted a persistent odor of cigarette smoke. The furnishings were worn, and the overall cleanliness was questionable. Abysmal Service The service was virtually non-existent. During dinner, despite multiple polite attempts to get the attention of the waitstaff, we were blatantly ignored. It was as if we were invisible. At breakfast, there was no staff present to assist. I had to walk to the reception to request basic items like coffee and water. The staff present were more interested in their phones and personal conversations than attending to guests. When approached, they feigned ignorance of English, German, or any language we tried, despite our multilingual capabilities. Unprofessional Conduct The overall demeanor of the staff was unprofessional and dismissive. There was a complete lack of hospitality, and any concerns raised were met with indifference. The hotel's management seems to have no interest in guest satisfaction or maintaining basic service standards. Conclusion This establishment fails on every level – from false advertising and substandard accommodations to appalling service and unprofessional staff behavior. It stands as a stark contrast to the hospitality standards we have come to expect in the Netherlands. We strongly advise against staying at this hotel.

We absolutely love this hotel, the rooms, especially the ones facing the forest, the breakfast, the restaurant and lounge for drinks and food anytime of day. As crowded as the hotel was our last stay, we never heard a peep at night. Highly recommended.

The only hotel in the world kicked out the guests who had paid for the room in the deep night!!! My experience at the Van der Valk Hotel Den Haag on 16th Aug 2025 was utterly awful! The service was simply the worst!!! The receptionist, Soyiam, showed absolutely no respect for customers and behaved extremely unprofessionally. We booked an executive room (40 square meters, almost twice the size of a standard room) for two days with our two 8-year-old children because there were no family rooms available. When we arrived at 10 PM with our two tired children, instead of a warm welcome, the two receptionists arrogantly refused to check us in. Their excuse was that we hadn't entered two children's information on our reservation. I patiently explained that there were no family rooms and that we could only book a large room with two adults, and I said I could pay for an extra bed. Furthermore, their booking website clearly states that children are welcome, kids above 12 considered as adults (please find the detailed hotel policies on booking.com) However, they coldly refused to check us in unless we booked additional damaged room. This was unacceptable to us. Who wants to stay in a damaged room? I then asked to check in for 2 person, and 2 others will stay in a private hotel nearby, but they rejected further. HOW CAN I NOT BE CHEKED IN for 2 persons as my reservation? I have already paid for 2 nights including breakfast, but they insisted to kick us out. So, we requested a refund for the €440 I had paid in advance for the executive room for two days, but they coldly refused as well! This kind of predatory behavior is unbelievable! I've traveled the world for business and private, and have stayed in countless luxury hotels. This is my first time staying at a Van der Valk hotel, and I've never seen such a disregard for the interests and feelings of their customers. I'll never set foot in a Van der Valk hotel again! Credit to the hotel's front desk staffs, Sonia and Iris (when I asked to talk to their supervisor for further discussion, they wrote down their names and said they were the supervisors at that moment!!!)

Enjoyed an overnight stay here in the Beach suite with my partner - loved the room and the roof terrace. Rented e-bikes and spent a few hours exploring Den Haag.

Edit: the hotel was very responsive and refunded the parking money. Amazing service, and I'm happy I can now change the review to 5 stars which the place rightly deserves! Great hotel and overall definitely recommended. The only unfortunate part is that we had issues with the parking which cost us extra 28 EUR (due to which I can't give 5 stars) - this seemed to be related to a new system being implemented recently, I hope this will be improved to avoid any issues in the future. The parking ticket says that it needs to be scanned by reception for free parking, but the text is only in Dutch and we still had the issue of having to pay for parking after checking with reception and them scanning our ticket. Apart from that, strong recommendation for the hotel - great atmosphere, great breakfast and great value as well
