Kemere Bridge, a remarkable single-arch structure from the 9th century CE, stands as a testament to Byzantine engineering and history. Spanning the waters that connect Amasra's mainland to Boztepe Island, this bridge offers visitors stunning views of Rabbit Island. Legend has it that passing through a gap in the island’s rocks can bring healing to those who are unwell.
A stunning stone bridge with breathtaking views of Rabbit Island. For the perfect shot, head to the bus terminal and capture the bridge's beauty, especially as the sun dips below the horizon.

A truly beautiful historical landmark, rich with cultural and architectural value. It carries an important legacy that deserves to be preserved for future generations. However, it feels like the government should pay more attention to its upkeep and take stronger measures to protect its originality. Proper preservation and regular maintenance are essential to ensure this heritage site continues to stand with the dignity and authenticity it deserves.

Weeping Tree

Historical landmark
When visiting Boztepe, don't miss the Weeping Tree, a 350-year-old cypress tree located in the eastern part of the island. Named for its ability to collect moisture from the sea and air and release it as raindrops in spring and autumn, this natural wonder offers a serene atmosphere for visitors to enjoy. The tree provides stunning views of the sea from above, making it a refreshing spot to take in nature's beauty.
The place was amazing The sea view from above was refreshing and new The people there has their own small business sell homemade jams, bracelets, scarfs Also what I noticed that the town is filled with weird pots to plant

The Amasra Museum is a small yet significant attraction that offers a glimpse into the historical importance of the city. Renovated and informative, it showcases locally excavated pottery, statues, architectural fragments, and other objects from Greek and Roman times. While the museum's size may be modest, its collection is well-documented in both Turkish and English. Visitors can gain insights into the development of the old city through its exhibits.
Really good museum (both inside and out) worth about an hour of your time. Free with a museum card. No dedicated parking. Signs in English and Turkish. Read up about the history before going.

The Kuş Kayası Yol Anıtı is a remarkable historical monument situated on an ancient Roman Road, requiring a short but rewarding ascent up wooden stairs. Ample parking is available nearby. This unique attraction offers visitors the opportunity to appreciate the stunning green landscape while enjoying a hot beverage and taking a break. The breathtaking sea view from this location showcases the harmonious combination of lush greens and vibrant blues along the cliffside.
It is impressive that as soon as you climb a lot of stairs and ask what this is, it appears in front of you as a huge column. The buried eagle, the arch-like shape that resembles a door and more are a complete cultural heritage. Waiting there silently by herself causes her to increase her majesty.
Metal01 — Google review
Pretty cool place. Hard to imagine it was built almost 2000 years ago! The walk up is steep, but it is short and there are some very well constructed stairs and paver stones for a path.
Noah V — Google review
The headless figure and the headless eagle are not very exciting, but! they are at the side of a real Roman road hacked in the rocks. The few meters that are still there are perfectly walkable and comfortable, hacked in the shape of stairs, with a chanel for water. The road continues into the wood, where it becomes dangerous. You can see that the rock was hacked to make space for the road. There's also a couple of niches and an inscription.
Ana L — Google review
Well worth the 5 minute steep climb up the wooden stairs to be able to see this. It sits on an old Roman Road. Plenty of parking just off of the road. Free to visit.

Çakraz Plajı is a lovely and quiet beach with fantastic weather, making it an ideal destination even in October. While the area can get busy, venturing away from the crowds is advised due to occasional sanitation issues. The beach boasts soft sand and clean waters, albeit a bit wavy, as it meets the choppy Black Sea. Visitors can enjoy the sight of a river flowing into the sea. (Translated by Google) We went as a group of 10 people in July 2017. We paid a lot of money and were disgraced with our money. The food did not arrive for an hour. After an hour, the waiter came and said there was no fish left. We told them to bring whatever they had and we waited for almost an hour. (We regretted not getting up and going. We waited so that we wouldn't waste time by going to another place and ordering there) We woke up hungry, they didn't even say sorry, they came off as rude to us with ready-made answers and their belligerent nature ( especially those standing at the counter) welcomed us. Even when we asked why the food had not arrived, those who responded negatively (whether they were employees or business owners). A great place, a terrible business. We heard that the business was closed, so they said they were going to close it down so whoever they screwed would make a profit. It's a good thing it closed, hopefully no one will encounter these people in another business. (Original) 2017 Temmuzda 10 kişilik grup olarak gittik. Başka bir yere gidip de sipariş verip orada da zaman kaybetmeyelim diye bekledik de bekledik) Aç kalktık, kusura bakmayın bile demedikleri gibi bizden yüzlü çıkıp hazır cevaplarla kavgacı yapısılarıyla (özellikle kasada duran) bizi ağırladılar. Yemek neden gelmediği diye sorduğumuzda bile ters cevap verenler (çalışanları mıdır işletme sahipleri midir). Müthiş bir mekan berbat bir işletme. Amasra Fortress stands as a remarkable testament to the rich history of Amasra, nestled in the Bartin Province. This ancient castle, dating back around 3,000 years, has served as a crucial defensive stronghold for various empires including the Byzantines and Ottomans. Originally constructed by the Romans, it was later restored by successive powers such as the Byzantines and Genoese who established trade colonies here after the 4th Crusade.
There was a beautiful view of rabbit island and also the sea. There were cafes and souvenir shops nearby and there were binoculars that you could see through for a minimum of 2 TL only.

It's beautiful historic place to see green nature, history and enjoy sea food. But not forget to full your car tank with gas before coming to Amastra, because there is no gas station in the city. In addition, parking is a big problem in the city . It's difficult to find a spot for your car. Other than that i enjoyed a lot .

Mahmoud A — Google review
Amasra is located within the boundaries of Province of Bartın. After the 4th Crusade in 1204, as a reward for their help, Byzantine Empire was given privilege of trading to Genoeses in Black Sea. Thanks to this, Genoeses founded colonies in Kaffa (Today in Ukraine) and in Amasra in Anatolia. After this period Genoese kept going founding colonies and trading in Black Sea. Amasra Fortress was originally built by the Romans but later it was restored by Byzantines, Genoeses and Ottomans. Especially in the 14th and the 15th centuries, several gates were built and the castle was fortified by Genoeses. Amasra Fortress is composed of two main parts named “Sormagir Castle” and “Zindan Castle”. Sormagir Castle is linked to Amasra by a bridge named “Kemere”. “Büyükliman Gate” stands on the northeast side of Amasra Fortress. While “Küçükliman Gate” takes place on the west side of the Fortress, “Zindan Gate” takes place on the south part. The walls of Amasra Fortress lie along northeast-southeast direction and are 65 meters long. The length of the south wall is 300 meters and there are eight towers standing over this wall. “Genoese Chateau” takes place in the citadel of Amasra Fortress. Genoese coat of arms is accepted as conclusive evidence proving that this building was built by the Genoeses. Among these coats of arms, Duke of Milan Visconti’s serpentine shaped coat of arm and premier Italian families and cities emblems can be seen. After Byzantine Empire lost its control over this area, Genoeses maintained their supremacy for nearly two centuries until 1460.

Amasra Plajı offers both free and paid sections, with the latter providing amenities like showers, changing rooms, and umbrellas for rent. The sandy beach provides a pleasant experience, although parking can be challenging. Visitors can enjoy beautiful sea views along with various dining options. Boat trips to nearby islands are also available, adding to the allure of this charming city by the sea.

Büyük Liman Beach is a stunning destination located near the heart of Amasra, offering visitors a picturesque sandy shoreline and crystal-clear waters that invite you to take a refreshing dip. This beach is perfect for swimming during the southwester winds, making it an ideal spot for sunbathers and water enthusiasts alike. As the sun sets, the atmosphere transforms into a lively scene with locals gathering to share stories and sing songs along the shore.

(Translated by Google) The port is very beautiful. Amasra is very beautiful. The sea was good. But those operators who take control of the beach and think that the beach belongs to them are ruining everything. After 6pm, the men set up tables along the beach and entertain customers. Normal citizens are not allowed to enter. Frankly, I have never seen such nonsense on any other beach before. The municipality needs to find a solution to this. But the municipality's own cafe, located just above the beach, is very nice. The prices are also very affordable. These services should also be appreciated.

They've rented most of the beach to private businesses, and in August, they're saying sunbeds and umbrellas cost 600 lira. Showers are 100 lira. In short, it's a terrible place. We decided to take a boat tour. We went to the front of the boat, but the first one ended with a scuffle, so we didn't get on. The same thing happened on the second boat. I asked the manager to form a line, and he said the same thing here. The crowds are at the same standard as the operators. Amasra, which we came to and fell in love with 15 years ago, is over for me. (Translated by Google) It's worthless. The beach is overrun by cafes (two sun loungers and an umbrella cost 700 TL), and there's an unoccupied section, but I've never seen such filthy sand in my life. There are more cigarette butts than grains of sand, not to mention beer caps and broken glass. There are NO municipal services like showers or restrooms in the unoccupied section. The ONLY JOB THE AMASRA MUNICIPALITY DOES IS PARKING LOT MANAGEMENT. There's no difference between the municipality and the municipality. Amasra is very small, and parking is a pain, so the municipality has taken advantage of this opportunity. This is acceptable, but in return, at least a shower and restroom isn't that difficult. Everyone's already complained about the seaweed and jellyfish. The cafes and restaurants are competing with the overpriced Bodrum, but the return is nothing but filthy sea and a dirty beach. We trusted the reviews and weren't disappointed. The mixed breakfast was quite filling. It included hot pişi (a type of flatbread), omelet, sigara böreği (a type of pastry), french fries, and toast. The mixed breakfast for two was 850 TL. (July 27, 2025) We also ordered kuymak (a type of pastry) for an additional 225 TL. The place was quite spacious and hygienic. The sinks and floors were clean. I recommend making a reservation and reserving a seat on the terrace because it offers a stunning sea view. Everyone can choose this place with peace of mind. The atmosphere is nice, it has a classic tavern atmosphere. It was a little more affordable than other places, but there was no big difference. I don't think there was a difference in quality either. Among the fish, red mullet is especially recommended, we also liked the honey yogurt very much. The employees were also attentive and kind.

Their kitchens and cooks are especially very good. Everything we ate was amazing! From shrimp to lakerda, from black-eyed peas to salad, not a single one was bad. It is served with red mullet and whiting caviar, and the sea bass looks like it came out of the sea 1 minute ago. I don't know how much more I can praise it, it's quite reasonable. Yediğimiz her şey muhteşemdi! I don't understand how you can say it is enough for 3 people. And the price is too high for this plate. We left hungry. The salad was nice and the friendly staff was zero. (Translated by Google) Even though I don't do it that way, people go to Amasra for raki, fish and salad rather than for its history. There are many places, and some are absurdly famous. I've eaten at many of them and to be frank, @maviyesilamasra is the one I like the most. First of all, Amasra Salad was the most delicious I have ever eaten. The fish was like delight. I have never eaten softer calamari than this in Amasra. Baked halva has no rival in Amasra; Because Mr. Tuncer made the product more delicious with the additions he made. They collect, sort and roast the walnuts used in their products themselves. The yoghurt was already good and the flower honey on it was better than at other places. The number of appetizers is small and all of them are meticulously prepared. There is also a religious interlude in the evenings. I would definitely recommend it with pleasure.

Not only us, but also other tables like us complained about the service. The drinks were almost coming after the meal was over, but we reminded them and ordered drinks again. The salad with the fish is charged but unfortunately it does not deserve its price. Forget everything, even the worst place serves halva as dessert after the meal at a fish restaurant. There is not even tea here. I came, I saw and ate. I will definitely not make this mistake again. If you go, you will understand what I mean. A very pleasant natural clean sandy beach untouched by tourism in a little village. It was very quite and peaceful. Their is parking and toilets (which were very dirty) , lots of stray dogs, a couple of old boats, plenty of picnic benches under shade of trees and a couple of cafe/restaurants. The sea sloped quickly to get deep and the waves were quite strong. A very nice place worth making a visit to enjoy

The beach is wide and sandy. The sea is magnificent, sparkling and the water is at a wonderful temperature, the 3rd week of August. But the interior of the sea is pebbles and stones. It won't bother you if you swim in and out from the shore. The stream and the sea meet in this region. The riverside is wooded. If you arrive early, you can have a relaxing time under the wonderful tree shadows or set up a tent. There were people setting up a few small camping tents. We loved it, we would love to come again. They did not allow you to have a comfortable meal overlooking the beach. -One downside is that it is not very well maintained, there are dilapidated houses, empty lands full of garbage, ruined tables and chairs etc. along the beach. and there is garbage. If these are taken into consideration, this is a paradise bay. Despite its drawbacks, I can still recommend it for caravans and tent makers. Note: The sea is not very safe or shallow for children, they need to enter under the supervision of their parents because it is generally a wavy sea and definitely not shallow. Also, I personally found the people to be quite lazy and insensitive to the place they live in, as they do not clean every evening or anything like that. They drink from morning to evening, but not even one of them sweeps in front of their door. There is no point in misleading anyone. A detached toilet, said to belong to a school, is used outside and unfortunately the cleaning is not good at all. For those who want to stay in the caravan, a double bed is equipped, but if you want to use the bunk beds, there are no pillows, sheets etc. There is a teapot, a few plates, spoons and glasses, but there are no pots and pans. Fortunately, we were prepared because we were on a camping holiday, we used our own pillows, sheets, covers and pots and pans. You can go down to the bay below via a challenging hiking trail through the nature park. The water of the bay where there is no one else is very beautiful, but you need to be careful when swimming in the rocky area. Of course, this descent has its ups and downs. (Translated by Google) Seasonal conditions, food and water have been the primary factors that have caused sieges to end in victory or defeat throughout history. Considering that Amasra still has problems meeting its water needs even today, a water source of extremely strategic importance was worth protecting. Therefore The well is located in the area between the defensive structures known as the Inner Gate and the Outer Gate, in an area that looks like a mini castle surrounded by walls. The floor buttresses and two gates on the walls around the well should also be taken into consideration. If we take it into consideration, the building looks like a multi-storey military facility. It is known that the well was actively used until the 1950s. Nowadays, the well is unusable because it is filled. By chance, I saw a photograph of the well taken in the 1950s, and in the photograph I noticed a container attached to a device standing on three wooden legs with a rope. The name of this mechanism is "Seren or Şaduf". It is a lever used to draw water from the well using a very little force with a balance weight attached to the mechanism. It was first used in Anatolia in 3000 BC. It continued to be used in Amasra in 1950. Perhaps it is one of the inventions in history that has remained valid for the longest time without losing its effect. It is really sad that a building that could have a very beautiful appearance with a small restoration remains idle like this. A little cleanliness, landscaping and lighting are sufficient.

Direkli Kaya is a captivating natural gem that stretches 7 meters long, featuring a unique connection to the sea through a carved stone staircase and a marble pier. Historically constructed by the Genoese for maritime observation and illumination, this site offers visitors serene azure waters and shaded paths nestled among rocks. While it remains open to the public, many pass it by without exploring its potential due to its somewhat neglected state.
Easy to reach from Ankara, it will be more excited if spend the night time there. Is beautiful and enjoyable to see.

For this reason, it is also known among the locals as the "Pool of Amastris." Steps carved into the rock and a pool connected to the sea are among the architectural elements that support this legend. Over time, Direkli Kaya was used both as a lookout point and a natural pool, and today it has become one of the most visited historical structures in Amasra. This structure, bearing traces of both antiquity and the Middle Ages, reveals Amasra's historical layers. Although little remains of its former state, I highly recommend a visit. (Translated by Google) Fish restaurant by the sea, very popular, it is impossible to find a place by the sea on the same day, thanks to Mr. Coşkun who helped us with the place. The view of the restaurant at sunset is magnificent. Sarıkanat and mackerel were delicious as a fish, the octopus salad was quite salty, the shrimp was beautiful in the stew. As for Amasra, you can easily choose. Prices are reasonable. Fiyatlar makul.

Salads and appetizers were good, fried calamari was bad, I would have given it 5 stars if I hadn't gone at a normal time and ordered fried calamari. The prices are the same as in Istanbul, the bill I paid in Samatya was the same. This is THE BEST seafood restaurant in Amasra by far. We had shrimp, calamari, mussels, salad, and baked halva for dessert. They were fresh and delicious. We finished every bite! The service was amazing. We went there twice during our trip. We would go back again!

I visited here with my fiancé (who is Turkish) a few weekends ago - we ate here two evenings in a row because the food was THAT good! On the first evening, we were seated outside. They provided blankets if we got cold. The sunset was incredible, our food choices were delicious (you must get the Amasra salad), the wine we chose was really lovely, and the atmosphere was calm and romantic. Even though there were huge queues of people waiting outside of the restaurant nearby, we barely noticed and felt able to eat our food in peace and in our own time. Importantly, our waiter was such a lovely and considerate man. We didn't get his name, but he is pictured in the exterior photo connected to this review (with moustache, standing outside the restaurant, with a woman above on a balcony). He made the night really special and put us at total ease. On the second night, we were seated inside the restaurant and we had a different experience. Positively, we were given a four/six-seated table for just two of us, so we felt very accommodated even when it was busy. The only downside was our waiter unfortunately - he was very rude to us and at times didn't even speak. Our salad was given to us without tongs, as they had done the night before. When we gently requested this, he didn't speak but had an angry expression. No eye contact. He gave them to us without speaking. Whether he was annoyed at us or at his staff we are not sure, but he left us very uncomfortable which was disappointing from a restaurant with such a brilliant reputation. We saw that the waiter was very friendly to the tables next to us, so we felt unfairly targeted and it affected our time there. If we'd only visited one night, then we would have given 5 stars for everything - our first server outdoors was 5*; our indoor server on the second night would be a 1* or 2* sadly. All in all - food was delicious, most waiters were very kind and clean (we watched some of the younger waiters clean their hands regularly and were very impressed) and the building has a lot of character. It is in an UTTERLY GORGEOUS location, especially as the sun sets. Just one person put us off our second night. We still highly recommend and just hope the waiter was having an 'off' night! Thanks for a brilliant time otherwise.

The restaurant surely has a nice view and I appreciate how clean everything is, from the tables to the WC. However, the food was quite plain and really didn’t live up to the expectations. For the price, it feels overrated and not worth it. With better flavors, it could actually be a much better experience.

Mustafa Amcanın Yeri has been around since 1945, now proudly run by the third generation. The place is truly wonderful — delicious food, a beautiful setting, and an unforgettable sunset view. The mezes are incredibly fresh and flavorful, and we especially loved the hamsi (Black Sea anchovies). Service is attentive and welcoming, adding to the overall experience. It’s a charming spot with a rich history, and we enjoyed every moment. Highly recommended!
Esin B — Google review
This is a nice restaurant with a spectacular view of the sunset (ask to sit near the windows or on the terrace). Food is good but ask for what kind of fish is fresh and what are the catches of the day. You need to know that mezgit are fresh from 1. September, not before, because only from 1. September they can catch it in the sea. Service is fast and good, but prices are too high. I understand inflation, but prices didn’t follow the inflation. If you paid 50€ for 4 people then (2 years ago), now you pay 70-90€ for the same amount of food, so it went more expensive.

We are from Switzerland and had the best experience with of our very nice waiter Özgür. He took very good care of us and helped us chose the best fish. We loved the grilled Gilt head bream and the yoghurt with nuts and honey. The setting with the sunset is priceless. Thank you Mr. Özgur

Breath taking location. Seafood restaurant located on the rooftop was the stand out. Everything is close by - within walking distance.

The best location to stay in Amarsa. The only rooms worth getting are their Sea View suites on the third floor. The other rooms are very standard. We have stayed here twice and will probably stay again. The service was an improvement (there was a bell boy who spoke some English)

They leave the menu and leave, then there is no one to look after us, we literally struggled to order. We ordered but this time it took 15 minutes for the ice cream to arrive. We had ice cream in a cone, the cone was literally stale. Even two glasses of tea came after we reminded them for the third time.
