Castle Combe in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Castle Combe, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Castle Combe is often called one of England’s prettiest villages, with honey-colored stone cottages, a medieval market cross, and a tranquil setting along the Bybrook River. Its remarkably unspoiled appearance has made it a popular filming location, offering visitors the feeling of stepping back in time. You can explore the 13th-century St. Andrew’s Church, stroll over the old stone bridge, and enjoy traditional pubs and tearooms. Surrounded by classic Cotswold countryside, it also serves as a scenic base for walks and drives through nearby villages.
With favorites like St Andrew's Church, White Hart, and The Little Picnic Shop, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like The Old Stables and The Castle Inn so you can get the best taste of Castle Combe while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Castle Combe Circuit is a renowned race track in the Cotswolds, offering thrilling single-seater and sports car driving experiences as well as hosting corporate events. With a track length of nearly 3km, it encircles an old World War II airfield and has been a prominent fixture since its establishment shortly after Silverstone. Over the years, it has attracted legendary names like Stirling Moss and John Surtees.
An unforgettable day out – a true gem for car lovers! Castle Combe is hands down one of the best circuits in the UK. Whether you’re a die-hard motorsport enthusiast or just looking for a fun and adrenaline-filled day out, this place delivers on every front. The track itself is brilliant, fast, flowing, and packed with character. It’s beginner-friendly but still offers a real challenge for more experienced drivers. The facilities are great, the paddock has a welcoming community feel, and the atmosphere is always buzzing with energy. There’s something for everyone here: track days, car shows, food stalls, and even family-friendly events. And let’s not forget the food. It’s surprisingly good! From breakfast baps to proper coffee, they’ve got you covered. The staff and marshals are helpful, professional, and clearly passionate about what they do. Safety is clearly a top priority, but the whole experience still feels relaxed and enjoyable. If you love cars, speed, or just want a brilliant day out with mates or family. Castle Combe should absolutely be on your list.

Wonderful place to travel to, if you’re using public transport would recommend taking the 95 bus from chippenham bus station(£3 for a single). Weekday morning will be the best time to travel.

Had a brilliant time here as a family day out. Lots of stalls to look at. Loads of amazing cars to see My favourite was the drifting cars in the track My partner and son got to go on the track and they loved it

Good day out.. row upon row of cars old and new .. lots of merch and food stalls, timed events drifting, racing ect. Its a huge event and alot of people!! Not a good place for dogs but I don't think i recall seeing any. They have changed to entry to the park.. you now park ya car first then pay to entre so there wasn't a long wait in ya car to get in this time!

Drove a Supercharged Ariel Atom with 6th Gear Experience day. Got taken off Track on my 2nd lap (of 6) for a Bollocking, I spun out driving like a Maniac. I was given the benefit of the doubt and allowed back on track to finish my remaining 4 laps which was nice because the policy rules state that if you spin it's game over. I drove sensibly for the 3rd and 4th lap then the instructor freed the reigns a little bit and allowed me to push again (not quite to the levels prior to the bollocking). In brief I was made aware that "it's an experience day not a track day" which as a grown up (which I'm not really) you have to respect as there are many inexperienced drivers out on track with you and it's not just your life you are putting in danger. Despite all of what I've mentioned I had a phenomenal day and a real buzz, and I know more than ever that I need to purchase an Atom of my own and get out on track days with it, so I can drive it like I stole it without the bollocking's 😂. Would still recommend, it's a well run place with excellent staff

Absolutely awesome day it was the first time I've taken my 10yr old son to a car event he loved it! The best part was the drifting it was superb and very loud! My only complaint which is why I only gave 4 stars not 5 is the prices at the food/ice-cream stalls/vans is way too expensive the average price for a burger is £7! I will definitely be taking sandwiches next time😁 Oh one other thing if you don't get there early enough be prepared to wait in the traffic queue!

Castle Combe Cottages are a collection of charming and historic cottages located on the main street. Dating back hundreds of years, these cottages are considered ancient monuments and offer a glimpse into the past. With no new construction since the 17th century, staying in these cottages feels like stepping back in time. Visitors can enjoy a perfect stopover for a night, experiencing the quaint and picturesque surroundings with their significant other.
Perfect!! Stop over for one night with hubby...couldn't ask for anything more.

Nice for photos. Nothing to keep kids entertained and feels unfriendly (like all these Cotswold villages) full of signs saying keep out or private. I get it, but if you live.in a tourist spot there are going to be tourists. Didn't spend long. Didn't see any shops just two pubs. Nice, quaint, historic, picturesque... but nothing to do but take photos or sketches then go away. Parking a fair hike away from the village. Good luck.

The White Hart, located in Castle Combe, is a charming inn owned by Arkells Brewery since 1878. It offers a brand new accommodation annexe with 24 stylish and contemporary rooms, along with a newly built loft-style breakfast room, restaurant, and function facilities. The rooms feature modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs, free WiFi, and tea/coffee making facilities.
Came in for an evening meal on a friday in this popular little quaint village. Lovely old wibbly wobbly proper old pub. I had my staple burger, Mrs F the harlequin chicken. Both came quite quickly(we were in early doors) My burger was really good and tasty smash type the chips/fries really tasty too, and proper onion rings 😋 Mrs' harlequin chicken, was delicious too, with nice sauted potatoes. Washed mine down with a great, well kept pint of 6X Need to add that we were a group of 6 2 had the haddock n chips, 1 the pulled pork, 1 the camebert melt as a starter no complaints from anyone, all food was well cooked and presented. Thanks to the team here for 6 lovely meals 😁

The gentleman behind the bar was amenable and caring of the work he did. He helped where he could and was knowledgeable about the menu. He was able to guide the wide variety of tourists to select the food they wanted in English only. The food hit the spot, decent taste and decent portions for the price. This place gets a lot of tourists from all nationalities. Be prepared to wait for those who aren’t familiar with English customs or don’t understand the language terribly well. I would suggest bringing some cash as there is a minimum card spend of around £6. There are a lot of reviews saying the staff are rude but this I would say this is frustration more than anything. The staff have to deal with a lot of people who don’t know English customs, can’t speak the language entirely and go through a lot of faff when paying (foreign cards, only large notes). The coffee there is also good, better than a lot of standard coffee from pubs. The milk used had a sweet creaminess to it. The pub is also dog friendly. I stumbled upon this place whilst exploring, I didn’t stay in the hotel.
Dan H — Google review
We visited during the long weekend bank holiday, and the place was very crowded, leaving the staff overwhelmed. We had to wait a minimum of 30 minutes for our dishes. After a long drive from London, we arrived just around lunchtime and were all very hungry and tired. The restaurant serves lunch only until 3 PM and then opens again for dinner at 6 PM. Finally, after our wait, the food that was served was hot, nicely cooked, and tasted great. After enjoying our warm lunch, we had a few cold drinks and felt revitalized for our visit to the village.
Ashish M — Google review
Stay to the beer and chips. Food is below par, and I think the coffee might even be good instant. Friendly enough, and great atmosphere.
Bradley H — Google review
As soon as we told the bartender we didn’t want to order a drink with our meal (which was already 25 pounds), he told us cash only even though there were no posted signs with that policy. We told him we had no cash and he crumpled up our order paper and turned to the next customer. (After reading some of the other reviews about racist experiences with the bartender, I feel that I should also note that I am white but my husband who was with me is Asian and that could have also played a part in our experience).
Rebekah J — Google review
Good ole jacked potato. Typical pub food, comfortable, large tables and friendly service
Cristian G — Google review
⭐☆☆☆☆ Poor Customer Service We visited today for lunch — the food was actually very good, generous portions and great value for the £15.90 lunch menu. Unfortunately, the experience was completely ruined by the rude attitude of one of the staff members, an older lady with short blonde hair. We were a group of three adults and two children and simply tried to move a chair, but she shouted at us in a very aggressive manner, which even scared the kids. Later, while clearing the table, she slammed the plates together, rolled her eyes, and made us feel very uncomfortable. To make things worse, she roughly pushed a pram that was parked neatly near the wall, just because it was slightly in her way. Completely unacceptable behaviour for someone working in customer service. Toilets stinks! The food deserves 4 stars, but the service, especially her attitude, deserves none. We won’t be returning, don’t recommend!

A Wonderful Experience! We had a great time here! The food was excellent — we ordered the omelette and moules, and both were incredibly tasty, especially paired with a pint. The owners were so kind and welcoming, and everything was served quickly and with care. We also loved sitting at a sunny table — it really added to the atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Castle Combe Phone Box

Historical landmark
Castle Combe, often hailed as England's prettiest village, is a picturesque gem in Wiltshire. The medieval Market Cross monument and old village water pump are found at the heart of the village, along with small stone steps used by horse riders. St Andrew's church houses the faceless Castle Combe Clock, believed to be the oldest English medieval clock still in use.
Landmark Phone box in Historical village What makes this particularly nice is that this village has mostly listed building from other centuries, so the 'decalage' with the non-useable phone box today still makes it look great and out of place. We really liked it the red box in the middle of the grey building looked amazing!
Paul V — Google review
This historic village feels quite authentic. Was used as a movie set for War Horse. The mansion manor has a Michelin star restaurant and the walk about the town and gardens is a very nice afternoon.

This quaint village with its picturesque streets, charming cottages and babbling brook create a fairytale-like atmosphere. Tips: visit during summer for lush greenery, arrive early to avoid crowds and if you have a sweet tooth do buy the delicious home made cakes kept outside a cottage beside the church.
Parvathi — Google review
This quaint village was one of my favorite Cotswolds villages I saw during my Cotswolds vacation! It feels like right out of a story book- with its picturesque streets, cobblestone, historic buildings, quiet vibes, charming cottages. Seriously, worth the visit! There is something unique & magical about these tiny Cotswolds villages… We visited mid October. Alllll of the ivy was glowing in its deep red & orange hues against the buildings. It was everywhere. So beautiful. The air was chilly with leaves falling & all the cottages had fireplaces going. SUCH A VIBE TO WITNESS! So much beauty to photograph!
Heather B — Google review
It’s small but so pretty. Parking was £1.10 for 2 hours, can be paid for using online app. It’s a hidden treasure and better when not busy. It’s mainly for pretty pictures unless you want to have cake/coffee or have lunch.

We celebrated our Wedding by having a small, intimate meal at The Old Rectory Pop Up Tearoom in Castle Combe. Anna was fantastic throughout the booking and on the day. She provided good communication and made the booking easy. On the day, it was easy to find and the parking was a great bonus in such a busy place. As we walked in, the whole room was beautifully decorated with the food laid out on the table looking wonderful! Anna was the perfect host as we arrived and ensured we had everything necessary, before leaving us to it. Everything from the background music to the food was perfect for our special day! We absolutely recommend the lovely tearoom, especially for special occasions.

What an amazing experience. The hall was beautifully decorated along with the table heaving under the absolutely delicate china ware. The savoury eats were just right, however, the scones, preserve and cream were the absolute highlight. Such a lovely place to celebrate a special occasion. I can highly recommend.

I don't normally write reviews but the owner requested us to do so if we had a good time. We felt the service, food and ambiance at this beautiful tearoom in Castle Combe warranted a write up. I visited today with a good friend of mine and we had a cream tea. Probably one of the best we've ever tasted. Anna, the owner also told us that you could hire the tearoom for a private party and she was a photographer and offered photo-shoot parties. We really enjoyed our visit and were made to feel so welcome. Well worth a visit . Will definitely come back again and recommend to friends.

I have been a couple of times and can only recommend it to every one wanting a first class experience. Anna, the host, is very warm and welcoming. Her tea is meticulously prepared and I have yet to manage to eat everything put in front of me! The place itself is beautifully presented and full of little quirky thing that she has lovingly collected over the years. If you want great afternoon tea, this is THE place to go!

Nestled in the charming village of Castle Combe, The Little Picnic Shop is a delightful gem offering a range of freshly made sandwiches, pastries, and beverages for a perfect grab-and-go picnic. It's the ideal spot to pick up a ready-made picnic with an array of goodies. Visitors rave about the wonderful food and the adorable picnic setup that adds to the delightful experience.
Don’t even think twice, book a picnic box from here! Anna was AMAZING to work with. She is able to accommodate all dietary needs. I got a gluten free and dairy free box and it was one of the best meals I had while I was in England. SO much food and SO much flavor. The price was perfect and it was sooooooo good!!!!! Her shop is beautiful on the outside too for pictures! My friend got a traditional box with no allergies and it was delicious too. Absolutely brilliant!!

The lunch box provided here is simply fantastic. Just make sure you pre-order it. There is a nice lawn behind the shop where you can do a picnic.

Fantastic experience from Anna! Castle Combe was very busy and we were grateful to have our picnic ordered ahead. We had the vegan picnic and everything was absolutely delicious. The sandwich was on a fresh baguette and had a lovely cranberry sauce with some greens. The pastries were all unique and tasty, there was even a piece of a pear pie. She provided recommendations on where to sit. Highly suggest ordering ahead if you’re planning a trip to the town!
Renee L — Google review
Lovely little picnic box of delights! More than enough for the two of us. Presented so beautifully too!
Rob P — Google review
For my partners birthday I ordered two picnic boxes and hired a hamper for the day, which comes with a basket, blanket, crockery and utensils etc. Anna was lovely and I’d been emailing her for a while to organise it, as I wanted it be really special. We collected it late morning before heading to Dyrham national trust park. Unfortunately I’d never been to Castle Combe before and hadn’t thought the logistics through (my fault!) The village seems to get busy early. My advice is plan ahead, and collect your picnic as early as possible. Parking is extremely limited. Other than this, we enjoyed our picnic and the contents were delicious. Sadly I wouldn’t return as we found collection was just too difficult and stressful due to the location. Hopefully others will enjoy!
Georgek117 — Google review
Note: location shown on maps is wrong, it is above water lane, at point tagged as old tearoom, on the main street. That what a proper business and marketing mindset would be like. In a place that no one else thought providing something what tourists would want, a ready picnic set! There is some trouble otherwise finding food in Castle Combe. Woman running this home business is extremely helpful and trying to serve you well. For 22 pound (during my visit) you will get a nice box with two ciabatta sandwiches with a choice of cheese, egg, tuna or ham, plus chutney, cream, waffle, cake, cookie, little meat pie, tea and few items else. Super fresh, prepared locally and amazingly tasty🤤 You can even get a picnic blanket and tea crockery for free. Products were nut free as we asked. You can share 1 box with 2 adults, but maybe stay a bit hungry and not enjoy it fully.

Had a lovely picnic surprise for my boyfriend! I had emailed Anna to put in my order. On arrival I gave her my name and collected the boxes of food and the blanket with the basket. She recommended the park near by. We had a lovely little tea party in the park. Would highly recommend and come again if I am in the area. Super cute and yummy 😍😋

"The Old Stables" is a charming village with plenty of attractions to explore, including Bath Abbey, The Roman Baths, and The Royal Crescent. Visitors can also enjoy the local village pubs and cafes that come highly recommended by both locals and tourists. While some visitors found the service a bit unusual, others praised the homemade cake and good coffee at this quaint spot. The atmosphere is described as relaxed and friendly, making it a great place to stop and unwind.
Holy moly. There are no words to describe how good the carrot cake is. I mean it is literally the BEST carrot cake I have ever eaten. Nowhere will even come close to making carrot cake this good. The iced lattes are top notch as well.

The Old Stables Café in Castle Combe was a pleasant stop for lunch. The café is dog-friendly, which is always a bonus. I had the soup and a cappuccino—both were good and hit the spot. I visited on 28th September 2025 between 2-3pm and accidentally left behind a small black leather bag with a silver chain. The bag contained a power bank, Apple AirPods, two lip glosses, and one lipstick (to the best of my recollection, possibly more items). I have called twice to follow up. Each time I was told there are no cameras and that my bag was not found. I was also told the matter would be discussed with other staff and that I would receive a call back, but no one has contacted me. The response so far has felt dismissive, and I would appreciate a more thorough follow-up.

Nothing beats a warm scone with clotted cream and a cup of steaming coffee on a rainy day. The young ladies behind the counter greet you with warm smiles and were busy as bees preparing the non-stop flow of orders. What a lovely surprise to an already memorable visit.

We went for a delicious meal for our wedding anniversary a couple of days ago. Very nice menu with lots of options. The sourdough, lamb belly, beef short rib and chicken Kiev were all delicious and presented very well. The desserts were also incredible. We had the Eton mess panna cotta and lemon meringue bomb. Good beer selection and wine list too. Would highly recommend and we are looking forward to coming again soon!

I was disappointed by my visit to The Castle Inn on this occasion. I have been many times and used to love it. When we entered it was 11.50am and we were told the lunch service hadn't started. We said that was fine, we were happy to wait. The staff member told us that we weren't allowed to sit down until lunch service had started. He said it in quite a rude manner and was very unaccommodating. We really didn't see why us sitting at a table quietly for 10 minutes was an issue. When we came back, the food itself was quite nice however there were lots of flies constantly landing on our food, which was less than ideal. Understandable if we had been sitting outside, but we were sat inside near the bar. On a positive note, there were 2 staff members who were fantastic. We didn't catch their names unfortunately, but a lovely lady and guy who took our order and served our food. They were extremely friendly and welcoming. The first staff member who turned us away would do well to learn from them.

We were really looking forward to dining here after reading the rave reviews and awards — but left completely disappointed. Despite booking days in advance, our table felt like an afterthought, and service was chaotic, with three different staff attending us during a very slow and disjointed three-hour dinner. We collected glasses and bottles but they were not cleared particularly throughout the evening. The food was far below expectations. The burger was the only dish that felt safe. The fish was barely edible, and the chicken Kiev arrived with the filling missing — as if it had been left behind in the kitchen. Every dish lacked finesse and flavour. We hoped dessert might redeem the evening, but the sticky toffee pudding was dry and dense, with a tiny amount of overheated sauce that couldn’t save it. A real shame — Castle Combe deserves better. This place has the accolades but not the delivery. Wouldn’t return. The 250gbp for four in a pub setting has taken us a lot further in both quality and enjoyment in our tour of the UK

It was a very nice stay! The room was quite comfortable, and the staff was very nice. We generally had no issues during our stay, though the service could get a little slow (during breakfast, for example). Regardless, we really enjoyed our stay. Thanks!

I rarely leave reviews, but my experience at this pub was so utterly appalling that I feel compelled to warn others. No family should have to endure what mine did. I’ll start by saying that I am genuinely astonished that this pub is still in business, let alone holds a license to operate. The most innocuous part of our experience was the food, which was overpriced, bland, and below average at best. Definitely a disappointment. Then there was the service, which was disgraceful. From the moment we arrived, staff acted as though we were an inconvenience rather than valued guests. We booked in advance and had specifically requested a high chair, but one wasn’t provided for the first twenty minutes. When one was finally delivered, it had a broken safety harness. When we asked for a replacement as that one was unsafe for our infant to sit in, very politely and apologetically I might add as we were already made feel like they were doing us a favour simply by acknowledging our presence, the waitress responded with visible annoyance, walked away without saying a word, and returned with another chair. Again, no apology, no acknowledgment. And then came the truly appalling part of the whole experience: we were harassed by another patron. That would have been a bad and traumatic enough experience on its own, but to make matters worse, when we reported it to one of the wait staff, they didn’t ask the aggressors to leave, failing to take reasonable steps to prevent continued harassment and to fulfil their duty of care to ensure that all patrons are kept reasonably safe while on the premises. Not only that, but they didn’t even offer an apology or log our complaint. Their silence and inaction made it clear they preferred to ignore harassment rather than protect their guests. I subsequently raised the issue with the manager, hoping at a minimum for an apology or acknowledgment of the horrid experience we had endured. Should I even be surprised at this point that there was none? The manager’s indifference perfectly reflected the wider culture of this establishment: dismissive, careless, and utterly disrespectful towards their customers. This was not just a bad meal—it was an unsafe and deeply unpleasant experience. Between the poor food, hostile service, unsafe environment for children, and total disregard for customer safety, this pub is a disgrace. Castle Combe visitors beware and avoid this place at all costs! TL;DR: Overpriced food, hostile service, unsafe environment for children, and inaction when we were harassed by another guest. Management was indifferent. Absolutely not family-friendly—avoid at all costs.

We had a very disappointing stay on Sunday for our wedding anniversary. The positive was our room, which was large, nicely fitted and decorated and clean - no complaints. The starters were fine, but my steak main was very tough and totally overpowered and ruined by the huge amount of blue cheese sauce. My wife's monkfish was massively overcooked. We barely started our mains and opted against risking a dessert. Bread was very dry (stale). Service for this meal was friendly. Breakfast took 45 minutes to arrive from ordering, by which time we had long finished our tea and coffee- no more was offered. We were asked to leave our bags next to the side entrance when we parked our car. This was not a seperate room and was not monitored, it was right next to the open door to the pavement. We had nice drinks in the Manor House and with hindsight, should probably have eaten there instead. A rather expensive, huge disappointment. I'm sure there is sufficient daily footfall, to not worry about repeat trade, or reputation and that's exactly how it felt.

Started off with a beautiful pub experience but later after getting our drinks when we asked the server to paid, she told us to pay later so we sat out, as we headed with our drinks in hand for some fresh air, she ran behind us shouting at us to pay- as if we were running away ? Very poor treatment where we paid full price for being treated like thieves. The attitude of the waitress was appalling!
Gracy — Google review
Upon arrival, whilst we parked, we were told to put our luggage in an unattended area, adjacent to an open door which opened straight onto the street. Not a good start. Check-in was fine, it felt somewhat of an inconvenience, but was efficient. Our room was large, characterful, well decorated with a clean, modern bathroom and we had petit fours with a welcome note, which was a nice touch. I have no issue with the room, my problem is with the quality of food at dinner and service at breakfast. We ordered pork puffs and bread as nibbles - the bread was dry/stale and the pork puffs had no seasoning. Our starters were fine, but our main courses were a disaster. The steak was tough and dominated by excessive blue cheese, the chips were dreadful, dry and appeared to have been reheated rather than freshly fried, the monkfish curry was inedible, raw tasting spices in the curry sauce, very overcooked monkfish and an unpleasant fishy smell. I ate virtually nothing of my main course. When asked by the friendly waiter if everything was OK with our meal, I gently explained that my main course was disappointing. We were given a 50% discount on the monkfish dish. We were so unimpressed that we didn't have a dessert. Breakfast was a service disaster. We sat down at our table and ordered our food quickly. There is a continental choice, well presented, so I opted for fruit and an apple juice. The fresh apple juice was clearly out of date as it had started to become fizzy and tasted slightly odd. We waited for 45 minutes for our main breakfast, at no point did the waitress offer us more tea or coffee, we had to ask if we could please have our toast whilst we waited and just as we were about to leave, we were told that chef had an issue with the eggs, hence the delay. Bizarre! There we three tables of guests, 6 people in total (plus a toddler) and every table had to wait for similar amounts of time. There was literally no interaction with the waitress until, 40 minutes after waiting, I asked how much longer our breakfast would be. More training is definitely required. We had drinks in the Manor House, earlier in the evening before our dinner, which was lovely, so we should definitely have eaten and probably should have stayed there. The Castle Inn very clearly relies on the constant flow of tourists and has little regard for the possibility of returning guests. The location is beautiful, the Manor House seemed lovely, but the Castle Inn was nowhere near being a 'Top 50 Gastropub'. The accommodation and menu prices are in line with the luxury hotel they claim to be, the reality is far from that. It's extremely overpriced and a huge disappointment, so sadly we will not be returning.

St Andrew's Church in Castle Combe is a historic gem dating back to the 13th century, with additions made during the town's prosperous wool trading era in the 15th century. The church boasts a faceless clock, considered one of Britain's oldest working clocks, and a monument of Sir Walter de Dunstanville, a Norman knight who participated in medieval crusades. The church underwent remodeling in the 1850s after falling into disrepair.
We visit in a lovely sunny day in august, noy crowded , also a bit of normand history lesson. Defo a must visit while in Cotswolds.

Very picturesque church from the outside. We had a wander round inside. It's free to get in, but with a suggested £1 donation which is reasonable. There's a faceless clock inside which I've never seen before!

St andrews Church is set in the beautiful village of Castle combe. Parking for the village at the top of a hill and would be difficult for those of limited mobility. If you do get down to the village , the church is well worth a visit. It has some lovely architecture , stained glass windows, and tombs. It's a wonderful place and well worth a visit.

The village is so beautiful. I’m glad I could made it. Only a few tourists visiting this place in 2018. I think in the future will have more tourists visiting because the town itself so uniques. I feel like I walked in the village in legend :) wanna comeback again with my family.

Beautiful looking medieval church in the very picturesque village of Castle Combe. Door to church was open and inside on a table were lots of tourist gifts, key rings, fridge magnets, pens, guide books all on display and priced. You leave money in collection box. Beautiful church. Well worth seeking out. Parking at top of village, all very well signposted, and walk down into village. Can't miss the church. Totally recommend a visit here.

Afternoon Tea at The Manor House - Castle Combe

Indulge in a delightful afternoon tea experience at The Manor House in Castle Combe, a charming village just a few miles off the M4 motorway. This picturesque location offers traditional Cotswold holiday cottages and stately homes for accommodation, making it an ideal excursion from nearby cities like Cardiff, London, Bristol, or Southampton.
Had an absolutely delightful afternoon tea experience at The Manor House. The setting was stunning, with elegant decor and a cozy ambiance that made it perfect for a relaxing afternoon. The tea selection was extensive, and each blend was served to perfection. The sandwiches, scones, and pastries were not only beautifully presented but also incredibly delicious, especially the freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam. The staff were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make our visit special. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to indulge in a classic afternoon tea experience.
Mashhhour Z — Google review
I have to be honest when I say that I expected better. Service was slow and considering we were told that there were unlimited tea/coffee refills, no member of staff approached us to ask if we wanted a refill. In fact, I sent my daughter to ask for more tea. When it came, the waiter dropped one of the tea strainer and dishes on the floor, picked it up and put it on our table to use! The cream tea itself was delicious- the wild garlic scone with sciracha butter was amazing. Was it worth what my daughters paid? No. Staff were nice, decor lovely, just lacking in the detail.

As a 25-year-experienced interior architect, I was really looking forward to visiting such a beautiful place, but it’s disappointing that it’s now somewhere to avoid because of the shockingly rude staff. The moment you walk in, you’re left struggling to find anyone to help. Then, this really rude blonde staff member just says, ‘Go to the bar; someone there will help you,’ and waves you off. In another part, another staff member is just as uninterested, and in the end, you leave without having had a single drink or bite to eat. Managers and supervisors in places like this really need to keep an eye on their staff. If they’re allowing customers to be treated this way, maybe they need a rethink, too.

Afternoon tea was so fun here! It was all decorated for Christmas which made it extra special. Great way to experience the manor and the food if you don't want to spend the money on the Michelin star restaurant. All the food was super yummy and very fresh. Tea was great too. Love it!!

Came for afternoon tea, the food and drink was pretty good - sweet treats especially. The service was extremely professional and polite. The room was a tad awkward being silent and full of old people but not bad vibes. It was a good experience but wouldn't do it twice as 100 quid is a bit dear for a couple scones/sandwiches and tea

Restaurant
The Bybrook in Castle Combe is a charming restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience. The village itself is described as atmospheric, with a picturesque route leading through a tunnel of trees and past the Old Museum. The history of the area dates back to the time when the Bybrook, which supplied water for the mills, began to dry up, leading to a decline in prosperity. As a result, the cloth trade moved away and many houses fell into disrepair.
Visited prior to Christmas, an impromptu visit as had been in the area. My children loved the grounds and really enjoyed the food. The team serving were really friendly, helpful and made the children feel welcomed too. Owen was a member of staff who was a real credit to the hotel, who showed my children to a box of games and seated us in great space for them to enjoy the visit too. Definitely plan to return, I often visit Woolley Grange as it's so family friendly but my children would also love to explore more of the manor grounds in the sunnier months.

Went to this lovely Michelin one star restaurant to celebrate my birthday! We ordered tasting menu with wine pairing to have a full experience! Food was exceptional but what was particularly amazing was the wine pairing!!! We went to a fair number of fine dining restaurants and whenever we do wine pairing it was mostly hit or miss but this place makes serious effort in making really great wine pairs with their dishes!!! My partner is not a huge wine drinker unlike me but even he told me that the wine pairing is amazing and he sees the point of doing wine pairing! We are defo gonna revisit but next time we will stay at their hotel to make sure both of us can enjoy lots of wines in this place!!!! Oh and their bread is amaaaaaaazingggg! It beat bread from our favorite Michelin restaurant in Portugal 😂

This 1 star Michelin restaurant is located in Manor House, a gorgeous place in Castle Combe. It serves 8 courses tasting menu. They are all elegantly presented. The dishes are cooked with distinct flavors and very delicious. Apart from the pickle carrot in main dish is a bit too sour for me, all is perfect. This place is well deserved for 1 Star Michelin Award.

We dined here for a 30th Birthday Celebration and left very full and satisfied! I give the food a 4/5 as I didn’t really enjoy the seaweed custard as it didn’t taste of anything, just like a plain cold custard. This was the only disappointing dish on the menu and I appreciate the skill of the dish, even though the flavour was lacking. The best dish for us was the dessert as it was unbelievable and ticked every box! We also loved the Cod, full of flavour!

Had a fantastic six course tasting menu meal here as part of our hotel stay. Every course was delicious and presented to our table with a smile and at the appropriate time so we didn't feel rushed at all. There were a couple of standout dishes but every one was really good. As its a tasting menu some of the dishes were just a mouthful and in the words of Gregg Wallace I could of eaten a bucketful. Lovely service and lovely menu, dread to think how long chef and his brigade were working to create a truly special dunner thank you 😊

Historical landmark
The Market Cross in Castle Combe is a historic landmark located at the heart of the village where its three main streets intersect. Dating back to the 14th century, it serves as a reminder of the village's prosperous history when it was granted the right to hold a weekly market by King Henry VI in 1440. This unique cross features a roof and intricate carvings, including shields and roses on its columns.
A charming and enchanting 14th-century village, Castle Combe is a true step back in time. Market Crosses like the one here were common in Medieval England, serving as hubs for trade and social gatherings. The village’s picturesque beauty even earned it a spot in the film “War Horse”. It’s a perfect place to unwind, with its timeless streets and photogenic buildings offering a peaceful escape and relax. Parking can be a bit tricky when it’s busy, but it’s worth the stop. There’s free parking by the market area, though it’s limited. A short walk will lead you to a beautiful water spot- truly a joy for the eyes and the soul.

First Impressions Castle Combe is a picture-perfect Cotswold village with honey-coloured stone cottages, narrow winding lanes, and a peaceful, historic atmosphere. Walking into the village feels like stepping back in time, making it ideal for photography and a relaxing stroll. What to Do • Strolling & Photography: Explore the lanes, admire the cottages, and take in the serene scenery. • Relaxing Stops: Sit by the river or enjoy a coffee/tea at a local café if available. • Short Visit: Most visitors spend 1–2 hours soaking in the atmosphere — it’s perfect for a brief but memorable stop. Things to Keep in Mind • Crowds & Parking: The village can get busy, especially on weekends, and parking is limited. • Limited Amenities: Shops, restaurants, and activities are minimal, so don’t expect a bustling village experience. Recommendation Castle Combe is worth visiting for its charm and historic character, especially as part of a relaxed day in the Cotswolds. For the best experience, try to visit early in the morning or on a weekday to enjoy the scenery with fewer crowds.

Nice historical place. Really preserved well and very scenic. There’s a parking area right before you enter the road going to the village centre. Cottage core vibes, and it’s spotless. We must be careful since cars also pass the village and have narrow streets. If you hike from the parking area to the town, you’re going downhill, and if you’re from the village going to the parking area, it’s uphill, so you need to wear comfortable shoes. There's a coffee shop and independent sellers around the area if you feel Danish.

The walking route from the free car park to the market place is awesome, please don’t miss that. I recommend that walk through the village highly as you would not regret. Every house has a different story to tell, alongside a unique beauty they are holding. Every narrow road welcome you with curiosity and beauty of nature. The market place has it’s own story with a long timeline. The way to the bridge is nice as well, you get to sit down there and enjoy fresh air, bird song and the water sound. If you prefer you can enjoy drinks from the castle inn which has its own historical past. Enjoy 😉

Fairy tale like English village. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw it. Best is to walk down from the car park. Best be early though since car parks fill up quick and street parking is limited. I saw a parking warden handing out parking tickets for cars on double yellow lines. Every building is different. Down the bottom of the hill you can cross the bridge and then sit down by the river.

Scenic, dreamy, beautiful place, almost hidden away. Coffee and delicious home baked cakes available and reasonable prices. We had a great experience, visited on a weekday, it was decently crowded. It could be difficult to find a parking spot especially, on weekends. Nevertheless, I recommend this place. And just eat the cakes!!

Idyllic spot at the centre of one of the UK's prettiest villages, and an ideal photo location. Can get very busy in summer, so would advise visiting out of season if you prefer to miss the crowds. Well worth a walk down the road and a look in the church while in the area. The cottages down the road are another superb photo location. Ample free parking is available at Dunns Lane, a short walk up the road from the village.

The Manor House Golf Club, situated near Castle Combe, offers a championship golf course with breathtaking views of the countryside. The course provides an enjoyable yet challenging game for golf enthusiasts. Visitors praise the beautiful scenery and well-maintained course, despite some recent work on the greens. The club's facilities and staff receive high praise, making it a great destination for both golf and leisure.
I went for a private function and 18 holes of golf. Incredible course with amazing views. Quite a long course with several steep slopes up and down. I used a push along trolley but a golf buggy would be very handy for those who think they’d struggle going up steep hills. Facilities are fantastic. Surroundings idyllic. Food was of good quality. Price quite expensive as one would expect- £40 for one round if going with a member.
Hammad P — Google review
The course is in fantastic condition and lived up to what we remembered, lovely to play. We had a couple of stray balls with no shout of fore which was poor given how off line they were. Had one ball actually hit my trolley and had my playing partner not shouted would have hit me. However, we weren’t overly impressed with the club house and food. We had a late morning breakfast and both of us found a hair in our food. The clubhouse didn’t have the best feeling and felt a little tired, staff were similar.

Lovely vourse although the fairways were a bit firm causes some unpredictable bounces. Would recommend hiring a buggy due to the terrain, some of the drops and elevations are severe! Nice clubhouse but service wasn't quick and there was limited draught options after we finished our round. Practice range was ok but the Practice putting green was like crazy golf with the severe slopes and will not help you improve your putting.

Beautiful course. Very well kept. Tough. If you play well, you can somewhat master all but 3 holes that are ultra tough (on the mind atleast). Some photo credits to a friend on course.

A wonderful golf course set in the heart of the By Brook valley close to one of the prettiest villages in England, Castle Combe. Myself and my daughter got a tee time at short notice: we chose it as the drainage was good due to it being built on limestone. After the recent rain it was good to see the course, and especially the greens, were in great condition for the time of year (late November). The course itself isn’t particularly long, but it represents a fair challenge and is one of those courses where even years from now and having only played it once, I could talk you through the round. Highlight holes: the drop hole par 3 2nd over the brook. The par 5 7th through the avenue of trees. The huge drop hole par 4 8th. The strategic 12th (don’t go long off the tee unless you’re very long!). And the 17th is a lot of fun too! The clubhouse is welcoming as are the members - we played with 2 ladies who were very friendly and helped us navigate the course. The halfway house is a Airstream caravan serving drinks and hot and cold snacks. There was a good selection of snacks and sandwiches in the clubhouse restaurant (and full meals but we only had a sandwich). Why the one star less? The course has a lot of up and downs - most people were in carts just for this purpose. We walked and it was manageable but any warmer and it’s have been a struggle. The “carts sticking to the cart path” rule makes sense, but meant the pace of play was fairly brutal. Just bare this in mind when booking. As for us - we will be back for sure. I’m looking forward to playing it when it’s drier and the balls are running a bit (and you can drive carts on the fairway).

Great course, apart from the first the fairways were in good condition (no irrigation on the first due to planning) the rest of the course was in good condition.

We went for a mix of beef and lamb with veggies. Cheese coliflour and beef were the stars of the meal. Thanks Charlie for being kind!

Fantastic dinner at the inn. The inn itself was beautiful and had a tonne of charm. Delicious pub food and lovely service. Went with the pork chop with black pudding rosti and hake fillet.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. The town is like something out of a fairy tale. This little restaurant/pub was very accommodating and the food was delicious. They even had a great little dessert I could eat that was low sugar, dairy and gluten free. I think it was called "sticky toffee pudding."

We had a wonderful Sunday roast here (2 people). The food and service were both was great. Staff were friendly, attentive, with quick service. The atmosphere was very cozy. I recommend booking in advance as all tables were full.

Absolutely Amazing Food! Had Hummus, cheesy garlic bread, pizza, ravioli and veg burger. The quality of bread is very good. The best Ravioli I have ever had! Will definitely visit again!

The winner of the weekend. Such a good restaurant with amazing menu, spacious seating, that good ole traditional pub atmosphere, parking spots, dog friendly and great beers. What else can you ask for?

Rather a disappointing visit unfortunately. My partner and I booked in for a Sunday roast and had a pleasant drive out to this country pub and were welcomed with a smile. Table wasn't ready but not an issue as we sat at the bar and had a drink. When we were shown to our table it was a very small table situated near the toilets against the wall. The table was so small that we could only just get our legs under and the table legs so close together that the chair would not fit under it. Not a big issue but not the best seating position to enjoy a meal. Once we had ordered the meal took 35 mins to arrive which was fine however, many of the other guests seated after us were served before us. The food was OK and what you would expect for a Sunday roast in a country pub. The noise level was very high and we struggled to hear each other at times which was a little off putting when you're trying to enjoy a relaxed meal. All in all the experience wasn't the best but mainly due to the location of our table, at times it just felt as though we had isle seats on a plane with people constantly passing to use the toilets. Worth a visit but I would reccomend requesting a table away from the toilets when booking.

The White Hart Inn offers a classic English pub experience in a tranquil countryside setting. The inn welcomes canine companions in the bar and garden, making it an ideal spot for dog lovers. Guests can enjoy fantastic walks that start and end at the pub. The establishment prides itself on its craft beer, modern cuisine made with fresh ingredients, and a carefully curated wine list.
I absolutely loved this pub! The cozy atmosphere and beautiful garden made it a perfect place to relax. The food was delicious, and the service was outstanding — friendly, attentive, and professional. What started as a simple family lunch turned into a truly delightful celebration. Highly recommend!

Had a meal here with a friend a few weeks ago. One of us had a food intolerance and staff were super attentive and went out of their way to check ingredients lists, and even to provide alternative options. Good was also delicious. Thank you! We'll definitely be coming again with our families. Please can improve the lighting in the car park area, it's a little spooky late at night!

We decided to stop for lunch when driving nearby and OMG I am so glad about that. By far THE BEST pub food I’ve had. Staff were super friendly and helpful when recommending food. We had a meat dish to be shared between two people, with a delicious blue cheese sauce, chips, on the vine tomatoes and salad / broccoli. For dessert a brownie with some fruit sauce - I’m not a fan and ate it all. I haven’t stopped thinking about it yet 😅. Honestly, super good experience and I can’t wait to come back!!

I stayed here with my family for one night, very close to Castle Combe. Lovely rooms, a beautiful and delicious restaurant, and a charming location — overall super cozy, well-kept, authentic and typical... I truly loved it! Only one suggestion for the lady hotel manager: a smile or two more for the guests wouldn’t hurt! The 17-year-old girl who served us dinner was absolutely lovely.

Our stay at the White Hart Ford was lovely! Quaint, charming, and quiet location for our three-night stay. The staff was welcoming and helpful. Nikki helped us arrange an early AM taxi to the airport when Uber was not available. The Sunday roast was amazing! Overall, wonderful time and happy to have gotten to experience this adorable place.

A fantastic pub with a great history. Tucked away in the town of Ford, we arrived by car and there is plenty of space in the car. We only came here for a drink and some lunch, but want to visit again already for an evening meal. Just a 30 minute drive from Bristol too! Food and service was fantastic, and the pub is very well decorated and welcoming!

Another gem in this region. The Cotswolds aren’t short of lovely places to eat and stay and the White Hart is no exception. It’s a lovely old stone inn on a river bank. Decent pub and a great restaurant. Food was great from a large menu catering for all tastes. The room was lovely, though a bit chilly but a heater is provided. Staff were ace, and very friendly. I’ll probably be back

I stayed for one night and the room was lovely and cosy. Everything was great quality and they did their best to accommodate our requests. The pub itself is beautiful, in a stunning location. The food was amazing, and really good value for money. Most importantly the staff were wonderful. Really helpful and really friendly. This is also a great place to stay if you're visiting the nearby villages.
