At the Site Traditionnel Huron Onhoüa Chetek8e, visitors are warmly greeted by a guide dressed in traditional attire, ready to take you on an immersive journey through a beautifully reconstructed Huron-Wendat village. Here, you'll explore significant structures like a giant teepee and longhouse, as well as essential tools such as the smokehouse and drying racks used for meat preservation.
Highly recommended visit. The guiding tour was very insightful sharing stories in the 1st person to help up understand better the story of this native community. You can’t go around the site on your own you need to join a tour. You finish at the boutique where they have plenty of home made souvenirs.

A must do. A cultural experience quite unlike anything else I’ve ever seen before (I’m European so we don’t have native Americans there). Every staff member we met was very friendly and polite and knew so much about the Huron wendate. We had the nicest guide (a quite short lady with glasses) who had funny stories about life in the ancient tribes and explained everything very well. The site itself although quite remote is really worth visiting and the souvenir shop very nice as well. I highly recommend
Joana M — Google review
A brilliant visit and tour that is well worth the taxi ride. Be sure to book in advance! Our very knowledgeable and witty guide Raphael kept us captivated for the whole tour (in English) and was detailed and patient with answering questions. This is a great adventure about a history that is little known to me as an Englishman. The gift shop is beautiful too and you will be compelled to contribute to the Wendake community.
Tim S — Google review
Loved visiting this place in May of 2024. Learnt lots of information about the Huron people and their history. Everybody there is super friendly and nice. Definitely recommend the short drive over for anybody visiting Quebec City. The gift shop is great too!

The tour is well worth the ticket price. The guides are knowledgeable and passionate about the people and the story through history into the present.

Valuable insights on how the Wendake Forst Nations lived. The first foreign currency in Canada was beaver pelts. The tour covered all aspects of their day to day life and trade.
Tyrone C — Google review
We received great service, the spot is very calm and you can hear the flow from the nearby river. The site is well maintained and honestly impressive. We’ve had a great immersive experience slowly walking around the longhouse. I absolutely recommend visiting the traditional site!

Onhwa' Lumina

Onhwa' Lumina in Quebec City offers couples a unique and romantic escape, providing a night-time light show walk that delves into the myths and traditional life of the Huron-Wendat. This experience allows visitors to immerse themselves in the history, philosophy, and values of the indigenous people of the area. The trail consists of seven different zones featuring various light shows, with each zone located just a few minutes' walk from the others. The approximately 1-1.
Onhwa’ Lumina was by far the most magical experience I’ve had in Canada. It’s honestly hard to put into words how beautiful and moving it was. The whole environment pulls you in—light, sound, and color come together in the most enchanting way. It felt like walking through a living dream. A true celebration of light, nature, and culture. Absolutely unforgettable.
Ella M — Google review
I have done the Lumina series at Whistler Canada and wanted to check this out as well. It was really beautifully done. It’s not the easiest place to get to without a car, especially since this event happens only at night time, so that’s something to keep in mind. But definitely worth checking out. The installations were really amazing and the stories it tells are equally mesmerizing. I spent close to 2 hours in there. I did find the Whistler one to be nicer, more wow factor to it but still recommend checking this concept out once if you haven’t done anything like this before.
Madhurima G — Google review
By far the biggest waste of money, waste of a Saturday night, waste of a drive, activity I ever experienced. It felt like an actual joke, I was waiting for the punch line and someone to tell us we were being pranked. This was so boring. I’m not sure who this is catered to but I felt so scammed. Hands down so so so boring. I was embarrassed the whole time with my boyfriend that this is what we picked to do with our night. The lineup was so long to get in. You wait as people stop and take pictures with a colourful sign. It’s a 30-45min walk to see 4-5 luminous stations. Some lights from Costco here and there. That’s it. We literally paid to take a walk. In line. We were not entertained or impressed by any of it. Never again. Don’t recommend at all. We ran out of there incredulous. The videos attached are the highlights. That’s it. Not even impressed.
Tella H — Google review
They say to get there 10 to 30 minutes before your allocated hour but there is traffic getting into parking. Its not clear what we are suppose to do once we are in the wooded fence area. Do you we go to the cash or straight in line for the entrance? If you already bought your tickets online, you go to the corded line to enter. The light show was beautiful. What ruins it, is other people not respecting the no flash photography or using a flashlight. All in all, its a good family experience.
Cristine G — Google review
This a magnificent experience! We absolutely loved it. The Wendat culture is presented as a fascinating tale, a Gesamtkunstwerk made of light, traditional music, dance, text, imagery and animation - and you can experience this wonder in the midst of a forest! We were really impressed with a level of creativity and pure love that went into this project. We also really enjoyed reading the digital guide - the texts are really well-written and provide in-depth information. Absolutely recommended when in Quebec or Wendake on Fridays and Saturdays. The tickets should be booked online.
Anna K — Google review
If I could give it six stars I would. Such an incredible and deep experience, beautifully set up. We left in awe and it was such a wonderful way to learn about this first nation and their view on world, through beautiful light displays. Is so worth going.
Gerrit B — Google review
This was a very well done production. The lights and sounds all around you are captivating, and the stories are very interesting and educational. We were fortunate with the weather, the rain had just cleared up, and the full moon was on the rise.
Mark S — Google review
The Onhwa’ Lumina experience is visually breathtaking. The lighting design, soundscape, and storytelling are masterfully executed, creating a moving tribute to Wendat heritage. As I walked the trail, I was genuinely captivated by the immersive atmosphere and the beauty of the show itself. However, the magic was often interrupted by the reality of the site. At one point, I came across a large spotlight and expected it to illuminate an exhibit—only to find it highlighting a condo tower under construction. The juxtaposition of ancestral storytelling with active development felt jarring and out of place. Apartment buildings surround the area, and the reserve seems almost swallowed by urban sprawl. It left me wondering: why not preserve the land more intentionally to honor the culture being celebrated? Crowd management was another issue. The sheer number of people admitted at once diluted the intimacy and serenity that the experience could offer. It was hard to feel transported when constantly navigating around other visitors. Driving in, I even questioned whether we were lost—the setting didn’t evoke the sense of wonder I expected. While the show itself is beautiful and well-crafted, the location and logistics detract from its potential to be truly magical.

Museum
The National Longhouse Ekionkiestha is a captivating museum in Quebec City that offers a glimpse into the indigenous culture of the region. Led by guide Dominic Ste-Marie, visitors are transported back in time as they explore the recreated longhouse, surrounded by a protective fence reminiscent of traditional village defenses. This must-see attraction showcases the fascinating story of the Indigenous people through informative exhibits and provides an enriching experience for those interested in learning about this rich cultural heritage.
I got a guided tour, tickets bought at the nearby hotel, which covered the Longhouse, a small museum and the nearby church. We heard a lot of interesting information and got to handle some of the implements the indigenous people used!

Wow! I can’t say enough about this place! The detailed integration of indigenous art and ways of being throughout the complex are tasteful as well as decorative. The museum tour is fantastic. Classes in necklace making and talking sticks are offered. We went to the Myths and Legends which was held around a fire in the longhouse. Everything was top notch. We were in one of the new rooms- one of the first guests in it!

the Wendake historical site advertised itself as a bilingual experience. Yet when my wife and I bought our fairly expensive ticket that included a show, we weren't given any guidance for where to go or when to go there. Each ticket was a sticker that you attach to your shirt, and every sticker looked different depending on whatever level you purchased. Some included a meal and a tour. Others, like ours, appeared to only include the show. It's possible that we could've loped in with a tour, but the one that started after we arrived was only in French--which was fine. What isn't fine is the fact that we weren't given direction for the show. There was nothing posted, no informational brochures, nothing. You just sort of had to figure it out. That's all well and good for something that costs $5, but if you're charging nearly $20 a ticket, please pay attention to your consumer base.

If you're hungry, it will taste barely okay. Food quality 1/5 Some vegetables taste like straight up salt, some taste like water. Cake is average, Burger is average, potatoes are literally solid rocks. Variety 2/5 you have a choice(sorta). Price 2/5 way too expensive for the food quality. Environment 4/5 cozy place with nice decoration. Overall, don't go to this place for your 'typical' travelling, unless if you're out of choice.

Super beautiful hotel. Very comfortable beds and pillows. Service is excellent. The grounds are gorgeous. It's right beside a river and you can hear it from your room....so relaxing. The sitting area at the bar, on the main floor, is a sweet spot to hang out...especially with a fancy coffee. They make the Irish and Spanish coffee like they used to in the 80s, with flames!! Very cool to watch! Andrée-Anne made us delicious coffees.

WOW! After spending two nights in Old Quebec, this was a pleasant change of scenery staying at this STUNNING property. Our room was spacious with beautiful furnishings. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Falling asleep at night with the patio door open and the sounds of the river outside gave me one of the best nights of sleep! The hotel property is laid out well with all rooms having a view! Will definitely stay here again!

Internet could desperately use an upgrade, these speeds are so 1999. The room has so much space for activities. Good sized modern TV. Beautiful lobby, interesting cuisine in the restaurant (not for everyone). Limited parking. Very quite area, making this a really cozy and comfortable get-away stay.

Our stay was five stars from start to finish. The ambiance was luxurious and the service impeccable and non-intrusive. For a hotel of a modest size, it provides guests numerous areas for unwinding, whether it is by the bar, a large window, a fire, the outdoor terrace or the river. The breakfast menu is small but carefully curated to serve different dietary needs while showcasing native flavours. We dined outdoors to the sounds of the rushing Akiawenrahk river before taking a walk through the trail. The museum and longhouse tour was about one and a half hours long with both French and English time slots. I recommend making time for it as it provides important cultural and historical context with many opportunities for asking questions. Our guide was lovely and patient but it was hard at times to hear him clearly. The exhibits in the museum were well executed which allowed us to follow along. The time we spent in the longhouse was incredibly memorable, making this a hotel stay unlike any other.

Everything was excellent, except the museum hours, even during the summer months, are short. It was closed by the time we arrived for check-in and we had to leave the next morning. Would have loved to learn a bit about first nations people, history, and culture. The staff fronting the museum was eager to call it a day.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The room was spacious and had a great view of the surrounding nature. It was super quiet, yet close to Quebéc city. The staff was really nice and helpful. We learned the lot at the museum (our guide was great), and the restaurant served amazing food.

Great hotel with small but nice amenities. Delicious local fare at the attached restaurant, and also has a museum and historic longhouse you can visit. My one gripe is that I had specifically booked adjoining rooms and was assured this was no problem, but subsequent renovations removed adjoining rooms, and no one thought to advise me. We would have picked a less expensive room if we'd known.

Beautiful land and hotel. Stayed and held a small conference here last month. The trails along the river are wonderful and a good way to "get away" from a meeting. Fantastic food and affable staff. Great place!

Restaurant
Located in the Quebec City Region, Restaurant Sagamité stands out as a top choice for experiencing Indigenous cuisine. While offering non-Indigenous options like burgers and pizza, the real stars of the menu are dishes such as La Potence, sagamite soup, and smoked bison short ribs. The restaurant has recently reopened after a 5+ year hiatus due to a fire and continues to impress both locals and visitors with its exquisite menu featuring traditional ingredients like elk, deer, and bison.
Lovely and delicious! This restaurant is an awesome gem. They are a First Nations restaurant, offering a delicious gastronomy by using traditional ingredients from the area. We were extremely lucky that they were able to seat us without a reservation, but I strongly recommend you to make one in advance. We had the traditional Sagamitè soup and the onion one as appetizers. You will have plenty of options to pick your main dish from fish, meat, pasta, and even pizza. Their traditional bread was top-notch, and we ended buying an entire loaf to bring home. Service was great, thanks, Sabrina, and the rest of your team!

The best dining experience in Wendake! From the moment we arrived, our server Robert warmly welcomed us and went above and beyond to ensure we were well taken care of. After learning about our dietary preferences, he thoughtfully suggested meal options and even recommended a white wine to complement our choices. We started with the Smoking Pipe appetizer—melted Calumet cheese that practically melted in our mouths. We were thrilled to learn that both the Walleye and Char were locally sourced. The Walleye fillet was cooked to perfection, topped with a delightful chutney of cranberry, corn, tomato, ginger, and roasted almonds, served on a bed of wild rice with hearty vegetables on the side. The Char, served on a bed of corn chips like nachos, was complemented with sour cream, corn, and cheese, an unexpected and delicious twist. But the highlight of our experience was the beautiful surprise we got for a birthday. Robert and his colleague serenaded us with song and drum, while presenting our dessert—maple pie with a lit candle. It was an unforgettable touch. As we left, we took a moment to explore the restaurant, admiring the space and displaying handicrafts, reflecting on the truly wonderful experience we had.

First time experience with indigenous cuisine. I was very impressed with the quality and tasty food, interior design and the location. Service was great, food for meat lovers and amazing desserts Wine list quite impressive with locally produced wines 🍷 and prices affordable for every budget. Portions very generous.

My partner and I had an absolutely fantastic time at Sagamité! We came for a special occasion and opted for the five-service meal, and we were blown away by the entire experience. The food was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. Every course was a delightful surprise, showcasing the unique flavors of Indigenous cuisine. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome and well-cared for from the moment we walked in. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfect for a romantic evening. We truly had a memorable night out and can't wait to come back. Highly recommend!

Great experience overall. We loved the food and ambiance! We had the potence des trois panaches, which gives you the opportunity to try many types of meat. The server was very friendly and welcoming.

This place SUCKS!!! I came here with some friends and the first few pizzas were edible enough to be eaten but then my pizza was RAW and not edible at all I had to ask a waiter to return it and also everything is extremely expensive better off going to Domino's because at least I will enjoy their pizza.

Wonderful experience overall. We had the three-meats tower (Potence des Trois Panaches) with the accompanying menu. Everything was delicious, from the pastry to the soup, from the meat with side dishes to the delicious pecan pie for dessert. Service was fabulous. Make sure you have plenty of time on your hands, our dinner took 2 and a half hours.

Lovely gem! We parked at a parking lot near a children's playground and walked over to the pathway. Well built structures...and the path continues further on. Viewing platform for falls. It is interesting to see relics of old mills. There are information placards that are needed nicely posted. Mid week visit was quiet. About 6-8 passerby on trails.

Church
Nestled in the heart of Wendake, Quebec, the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette Church stands as a remarkable testament to history and spirituality. Established in 1697, with its current structure dating back to 1730, this charming church draws inspiration from Italy's Santa Casa de Loreto. Its picturesque setting makes it a must-visit year-round; whether you're admiring its beauty during summer or winter, each season offers a unique charm.
I went on a guided tour (bought ticket at the Hôtel - Musée Premières Nations hotel nearby) and we were taken to the Longhouse, small Museum, and this church was unlocked especially for us. It is entrancing how so many items of importance to the indigenous peoples are here in the church. Also, there is a rare

Native American restaurant
La Traite is a restaurant located at the Hotel-Musee Premieres Nations in Wendake, Quebec. The establishment focuses on showcasing indigenous culture and traditions, offering unique dishes that incorporate ingredients like birch syrup, oak leaf, and wild berries to enhance the flavors of game, fish, and vegetable dishes. Visitors can also enjoy traditional flatbread known as bannock along with local cheeses, smoked fish, and housemade jams served at brunch.
A wonderful experience with thoughtful menu choices. I enjoyed the generous wild mushroom appetizer. I chose arctic char -- delicious main course. The dessert offerings are wonderfully prepared.
Grace M — Google review
Bannock bread is amazing, out of this world. It’s worth going just for the bread hahaha! Food is very different, but good. We arrived for lunch but the kitchen was closed for mains and we had to order platters (it closed at 2:30). Tried the fish platter and the signature platter, both were very good. I loved the bread and salmon jerky. Very unique and tasteful selection of toppings (the sauces served on the side). Good service, very kind waiters that offer you a more private experience by not hanging around the table as much and sort of going about their own thing. They will come quickly when you call, though, and are always at your disposition! The place has a wonderful atmosphere with many beautiful paintings and well-made taxidermies. Loved the bison and the moose; both are impressive! The view from the window side tables is marvellous too. Wide range of seating options, clean bathrooms, and nice music (very quiet and out of your way, allows for conversation). In conclusion, a solid restaurant!

We went to visit the museum and decided to eat at the restaurant. We chose to sit outside, it was a gorgeous summer day and the atmosphere overall was great. We had a nice service, ordered Native sourced beers, the smoked wild boar sandwich which was delicious and the trout, which was so-so. The whole experience was fine but as soon as the restaurant started packing, service got delayed a bit. Nothing that caused stress or disappointment. The bannock was really good and in the end, we did a little walk by the riverside to enjoy the calming waters. Very nice place indeed.

We stayed at the hotel and visited for dinner and breakfast - very different experiences, but only breakfast would be recommended! For dinner, we tried the Discovery Menu, which was just fine - not worth the high price point (~$220 USD). Portions, while on the smaller side, were filling and tasty. I wish there was more storytelling that came along with these dishes given the restaurant's First Nations theme, but perhaps we missed out on this due to only speaking English. On the other hand, we greatly enjoyed breakfast on the lovely patio - prices seemed fairer, service faster, and every dish was delicious! Note that we were told the restaurant is reservation only - while the restaurant was fairly empty, service was a bit stretched thin and we had to wait for quite some time between our courses.

5/5 restaurant, deserving even more start. Such a wonderful restaurant, exceptional service and outstanding outstanding food, and dish presentation. Their food is incredible, a jewel to your palate. Their flavors reminded me of the incredible gifts of our planet. Everything tasted so fresh and exquis! I would love to come back, we had a prefix menu. The waiter, explained the dishes and let us know that everything season the menu changes. This restaurant is the BEST, le meilleur restaurant dans lequel j'ai été de ma vie. Merci beaucoup de nous avoir régalés avec votre délicieuse cuisine et votre service incroyable. ☺️

When we're done the visit at the wendat museum. Our first time this place. My meals: smoked salmon oshata, somethings creamy scallops with salmon and a main dish I forgot what's call it. Exquisite flavors on my palette, the joyful staffs with heck a humor and the relaxing ambient with some modernes native musics.

Food was amazing. We did a 4 course with char and deer as the main. Very different than the comfort Indigenous food I grew up with in Southern US. Anne-Julie was our server, very nice and kind! She had a very rude table near us and handled it like a champ. This was a great experience and hope to come back!
Justin T — Google review
Although the food was very expensive, the experience was worth it since it was beautifully decorated in the inside. The bannock was delicious. The candied salmon was delicious in an unexpected but in a good way since the curing elevates the flavor of the salmon. The deer hearts and the pan-fried arctic were also delicious. The Three Sisters Style Cream soup tasted like broccoli cheese soup and was only okay. The desserts were delicious. Overall, it's worth going at least once while in the Québec City area.

Located in Quebec, the Musée Huron-Wendat is a must-visit museum that celebrates and preserves the history and heritage of the Huron-Wendat Nation. It offers guided tours providing insights into the people's journey from Georgian Bay to Wendake. The museum features small exhibits showcasing their life and culture, along with traditional structures like the longhouse, Maison Tsawenhohi, and Mission Notre Dame-de-Lorette.
Incredible! The private guided tour was a mix of facts and powerful personal stories of culture and experience by our guide Robert Williams. Wish we had of known about the hotel and restaurant. Would have definitely stayed to enjoy the river, walking trails and gardens. Life time kmpactful experience. Will go again.

Super cool. Loved the life sized portraits. I almost missed the longhouse because it is hidden behind the palisades. Lots of interactive features. And a beautiful space.

Such a jewel. A museum, hotel, restaurant, and bar area. A small gift shop and an entrepreneurial town beside it. Amazing.
Sherri P — Google review
We confused this place with another museum in the same place and were a bit disappointed. There wasn't as much to see as we had hoped. Nice long house though. The village with shops and restaurant is really nice and idyllic.
Sandra P — Google review
The museum was tiny and I felt like they could do a better job of relaying the stories they could tell. I mostly went to see how Kondiaronk, one of their past chief, was presented. I've read about him in a book, which told fascinating accounts. But here I could only find generic info of him. I feel like they could tell such rich stories of their people rather than showing old pieces of clothing and pottery. I did like the creation myth but even that could be told better.
Jung K — Google review
Although the museum was smaller than expected, the exhibits related to Wendat people were quite interesting especially the way how they lived. There was also a longhouse right outside of the museum to go inside.
Travis T — Google review
Absolutely amazing experience! Incredible place documenting an incredible history. We did the guided tour and our guide was fantastic. Best museum experience I’ve ever had by far. She was a story teller and keeper of the fire. Sitting by the fire in the longhouse, walking down to the church…hearing about the town was deeply meaningful. Highly recommend the experience!
Brent H — Google review
The tour of the site was fun but a little short. This is not a day/half a day experience but maybe an hour, two tops if you stop at the gift shop. I absolutely recommend visiting the traditional site right next to the museum, you can’t go there and miss that! Truly the star of the show.

An aweful way to receive clients, condescending madam behind the stove...We saw her treat people like I've rarely seen (they were looking at the wrong menu it seems which was exactly the same as the other one, how about you remove it you dont want people looking at it...) they were in the alley (as we were) looking at the menu and she called them out but not us). Maybe/clearly a bad day for her, but wow... unfortunately for them the family (maybe their money was no good to her)left, and I should I followed as the poutine is average if not subpar... find a better place
