Bayahibe is an incredible island destination that should not be missed. It offers a unique and captivating experience for visitors. While snorkeling may not provide a wide variety of fish, there are still exciting sightings like stingrays and enormous starfish. The island itself is picturesque and inviting, even if amenities such as running toilets are lacking and the drinks can be expensive. The food may not meet high expectations but that doesn't overshadow the overall enjoyment of being there.
The area itself did not feel the safest but we still enjoyed the time in the area. It is worth going here for a boat rental. The area with starfish is amazing. Water is very clear and warm.

Nice boat ride, awesome waters, music is great & so is the atmosphere.
Ruben A — Google review
We visited Isla Saona, and it’s truly a must-see when traveling to the Dominican Republic. The journey starts at the Bayahibe Port, where boats depart for Isla Saona. While the port itself is nothing special, the trip from there to the island is absolutely breathtaking. The entire area between Bayahibe and Isla Saona lies within a National Park and protected marine area, offering stunning views of turquoise waters and untouched nature. Just before reaching the island, there’s a spot known as the Natural Pool — a shallow, crystal-clear lagoon with fine white sand unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It’s simply magical (just take a look at the photos!). Finally, you arrive at Isla Saona, which features the same powdery sand and calm, inviting waters. Most tours include food and drinks, making it a relaxing and memorable day trip. If you’re visiting the Dominican Republic, Isla Saona is an experience you absolutely shouldn’t miss.

Bayahíbe’s port is a paradise for all. Here, sunrises awaken the soul, and sunsets paint the sky in golden dreams. If you seek beauty in its purest form, this is where you’ll find it.
Caroline B — Google review
A nice and busy port with many gift shops, excursion agencies and hawkers selling stuff. This is the main starting point for many tours, specifically the boat/catamaran ride to the Isla Saona, so do come early if you haven't got a booking in advance. Also the traffic around this port is crazy, there are no clear sign to car park, and cars and buses are driving all over the entrance, so it's really messy. Our tour guide kept us waiting and trying one boat after another for almost 2 hours before we finally got into one for Isla Saona, so be careful. Noone speaks English at this place or overall at DR!
Rakesh C — Google review
Nice little town to walk around and get a feel of the local living. We walked around the port and got some empanadas.
Kat R — Google review
I can't comment much on this place it wouldn't be fair because i just went here to sail to Saona Island and back so I didn't really see the place. Seems nice though
Kenesha H — Google review
Its beautiful beware of tour guide the chargers double try to go directly to boat owner they have office near boat $3000 peso is what you should be paying it includes dorado dominican rum (cheap rum) and the food is average chicken, pork chop rice salad the food is not great at all as far as the beach is nice but las terenas samana is nicer this is more the experience of the boat and las saona island

Outdoor Activities
Playa Pública Dominicus is a beautiful beach with white sand and clear waters, holding the prestigious Blue Flag badge. It offers a relaxed atmosphere and is well-maintained. The shoreline features transparent waters and sandy ground, with some areas having fun waves caused by sand banks. While it can get busy, especially on Sundays, it's not overwhelmingly loud. Despite being somewhat touristy, there are affordable accommodation options nearby. However, visitors have noted that amenities like showers and bathrooms may be limited.
Our favourite beach, the water was so warm and the colour was insane. We stayed in the water for hours. It is small part of the beach between hotels and there are stalls with souvenirs. There is a small car par but when it is full over the weekend you can park along the road.
Veronika O — Google review
Excellent beach, can rent chairs, umbrellas etc plus you can order delicious food brought directly to you
Wendy H — Google review
Very beautiful. But very dirty, take 20$ but don't clean the beach. They trimmed the trees to avoid shade, so they could sell more templates and umbrellas. All foto from closed beach.

Beautiful beach with turquoise water and natural sand this it’s your place to go for beach in Dominican Republic: Playa pública Dominicus La Romana. Here in the public area you can enjoy this stunning beach! The ocean it’s so clear that you can see your feet and the sand under the water and plenty of area that you can get in the ocean that it is not deep at all. They have umbrellas with beds for rent or bring your own one with chairs and have a great family and friend time. Food and drinks available for purchase and great variety of souvenirs shops too.
William H — Google review
A Caribbean Dream! Dominicus Beach in Bayahibe is by far the most beautiful place I’ve seen during my trip to the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴. While we stayed in Punta Cana with my family, we were disappointed to find the beaches there (especially Bavaro Beach) covered in sargassum (seaweed), with a strong smell and murky waters—swimming was nearly impossible. Just a couple of kilometers further, Playa Macao had slightly cleaner water, but nothing compares to Bayahibe. This area belongs to the Caribbean Sea, unlike Punta Cana, which faces the Atlantic Ocean. The difference is huge: the water in Bayahibe is crystal clear, calm, and perfect for swimming or snorkeling. Dominicus Beach offers white sand, turquoise sea, and a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere—ideal for couples, families, or anyone wanting to enjoy paradise. If you’re planning a trip to the DR, skip the resorts of Punta Cana and head to Bayahibe. You’ll experience the real Caribbean here.a
Vecchio R — Google review
The beach itself is absolutely beautiful, transparent waters, all sandy ground, on one part with a fun wave caused by a sand bank. The shoreline is quite steep on some parts, so when going in, you're in hip or breast deep water in just a few meters, but it stays like this for a good 50-100m. The sand area is a bit littered, it doesn't seem like the locals keep it very clean, and bordered left and right by two all inclusive hotels who blast their music on the beach, additionally to the locals who love to bring their music boxes and mount a party on the beach. It is a quite crowded beach, due to its good access. So if you're looking for quiet relaxation and few to no other people, you better head further down the beach towards the nature reserve. You can rent two sun loungers + umbrella for 1000 RD$, one plastic chair for 150 and only an umbrella for 500. There is no shade on the front line, only in the access part of the beach are a few trees that provide good shade, if you don't mind the ants on the floor. We haven't seen any food shops, but there is a bar with shadow on the entrance of the beach and a couple tourist shops right on the shore. There's a large parking at the entrance, where you "can pay a fee or not" to the security guy to "watch" your car. There are no public showers or bathrooms. It is not allowed to bring animals. It's a blue flag beach so the water quality is monitored and good. Perfect place to watch the sunset.
Nicole L — Google review
Really clean beach and beautiful water it's a must see if you in Dominicus. You should be there early really crowded in the weekend
Josh G — Google review
honestly one of my best beach experience in DR. no algae and no invading salesman food is good and prices are acceptable. you can rent lounge chairs but table and patio chairs are free if you eat/drink and a fee of 100 pesos for safe parking is more than acceptable :)

Bar
Faro de Bayahibe, also known as the lighthouse of the town, is a must-visit attraction when at Dominicus Beach. It offers a beautiful photo opportunity and can be easily reached by walking along the beach. The lighthouse is located at Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus and is exclusively accessible to guests staying there. It features a full bar serving an array of cocktails, beers, and soft drinks for guests to enjoy while soaking up the sun on the beach.
Such an amazing beach, exclusively for those from the iberostar hotel. Service is amazing as well as location. Drinks are free but staff from the gift shops will scout you and get you to buy their things...
Tanya — Google review
I planned on staying at this beach for the day. Being the only person at the gazebo I found it unnecessary that the life guard would not let me stand there and enjoy the view. So I went to another location and spent a decent amount of money there.

Beach
Playa Palmilla is a stunning beach with powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Visitors can enjoy various amenities such as food, drinks, and resting areas. Accessible by boat or catamaran, the island also offers opportunities for kayaking to explore the surrounding areas. While some find the food and native art a bit pricey, the overall experience of this secluded paradise is described as absolutely perfect and a best-ever experience.
Amazingly beautiful beach and waters... honestly so nice and enjoyable. Now about bars and food, don't expect too much in these beaches. Rum coke and sprite..😅😅 and off course some offering coconuts coctails and massage but you have to pay extra to these peaple. If you going with group the food is much better, but don't choose the lobster for my opinion, paid 35 dollars extra for a tiny lobster and 20 dollars for 2 original long island coctails so tasty.

Absolutely amazing experience! You must go ashore if you can… I could have stayed there all afternoon! Xx ❤️❤️

Kviar Show Disco & Casino Bayahibe is a vibrant hotspot for those seeking an exciting night out in the Dominican Republic. This lively venue features a compact yet entertaining casino, offering popular games like Blackjack, three-hand poker, and roulette—both electronic and traditional. The atmosphere comes alive on weekends when locals and tourists alike gather to enjoy the upbeat music spun by talented DJs at the disco.
My fiancé and I had a great time! Its a small casino with big fun! We went on a Sunday and it got packed. They have a good amount of tables. Black Jack, 3 hand poker and roulette. 2 electronic tables of 8 seater roulette. And an actual roulette table. The disco was free, good dj, would definitely return!
Camille J — Google review
Went there super early, it was empty but the staff were nice and friendly. We played a little roulette, won a bit, lost a bit, had a good time, all good!
James J — Google review
Casino was small but had table games and slots, including roulette, the downside is the attached club is all the way at the back and they just charge you and dont even tell you how much the drink was! I got a jack and coke type drink and NO RECEIPT OR ANYTHING stating how much the drink was! Beware!
Irwin J — Google review
Nice small casino and very inexpensive to play.... restaurants and bars in the same complex... minimum bets are RD$100 ( about $2.50 cad )... we play for hours and lose very little....
Daniel I — Google review
No my type of place because the casino suck is very small no too many tables nor machines. I don't think anybody wins there. The atmosphere is weird the music in the club was awful and ultra loud. I probably never come back.
Boston N — Google review
An okay spot for some nighttime fun. This place mainly attracts foreign locals and tourists. The crowd is a mix from 20s to 40s. The music is upbeat and loud. There is a casino in the front of the building and you walk through it to get to the club. It can get busy on weekends or during events.
Idelis C — Google review
Dingy atmosphere and randomly scattered sparse Game Machines and tables. The Disco didn't open on time and then tried to charge us 20 US dollars to get in for a special event that had no one in there. We left
The D — Google review
Staff here is very polite and helpful, you can get drinks from Casino and the prices are moderate. There are parking lots for about 30 vehicles. Place is very close to the beach a 5 or 10 minutes walk. Enjoyed time there.

Bayahibe Beach is a popular destination known for its palm-lined white sand and clear aqua waters, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. There are various accommodation options within walking distance of the beach, offering comfort and tranquility in this charming seaside town. The area also boasts all-inclusive hotels with amenities like outdoor swimming pools, fitness centers, and concierge services.
Excellent beach and town. I was there for one month in June 2024 and a few days of July exploring the country, so I want to share my photos of Bayahibe. I liked the food, drinks and deserts, especially cake. It gets a bit crowded on the weekends but you will never be bored with Dominican people if you speak good Spanish, and even if you don't.
Lejla V — Google review
It's a nice beach but don't recommend on Saturday and Sunday as it gets really busy with locals and there is little space. A lot of shops nearby.
Radek Z — Google review
We love this beach I think it’s beautiful and the water cristal clear. We visited with friends and family and had a great time in the water with literally no waves and warm water and soft sand on the beach. If you are going to eat they will set you a table with chairs and will be included with your purchase. Note: This it’s Bayahibe Beach this doesn’t have the Bayahibe lighthouse very mistaken by others and also it’s one wrong picture posted that doesn’t belong to this part of the beach. The lighthouse it’s located on Dominicus beach!
William H — Google review
Beautiful beach with restaurants along it. I wish they had dominican prices instead of American. It's definitely a tourist trap with people bothering you the entire time. We did eat from the restaurant so we didn't get harassed as much and the food was good. The water was gorgeous and warm

Great Public Beach, But Beware of Hilton Security Lovely beach with calm water and a relaxed vibe. However, if you walk toward the Hilton resort area, be aware that security will block your path along the shoreline, falsely claiming it's private property. All beaches in the Dominican Republic are public up to 60 meters from the waterline, including in front of resorts. If you're stopped, you can politely ask to speak to a manager.
Will C — Google review
A nice sandy beach with clear waters 15 min drive from La Romana. I found the place primarily visited by locals, only a few tourists. There were many locals with picnics or just enjoying with families. There's a large car park close by that charges 200 pesos for the day. However, be aware that it's a rip off for tourists. The touts just flock you from all sides. I was charged US $5 just to use a chair at the beach (though I doubt it was his chair at all) and then US $25 for each pound of fish! So, we just gave up after 30mins and left.

Restaurant
Saona Café is a popular spot located on the main street in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic. Situated right in front of the beach, it offers stunning views and a great ambiance. This restaurant and bar is known for its international cuisine, refreshing drinks, and lively music. It's a perfect place to mingle with people from around the globe while enjoying delicious cocktails and cold beers.
Very laid back restaurant right across the Marina. Staff is extremely friendly. One of the best and BIGGEST fries fish I ever had. Was definitely worth it.
Meyf B — Google review
My partner and I visited Saona Café at least 3 or 4 times during our week long stay in Bayahibe. The food was always fresh and delicious but our favorite drinks were the cappuccino's and the all natural fruit juices (passion fruit for me and mango for him). The view of the marina and the smell of the ocean breeze were absolutely breathtaking. We also had the same waitress whenever we visited, her name was Janet and she was friendly, sweet and super professional. We can't say enough nice things about Saona Café, it would be a sin not to visit them during your stay in Bayahibe.

Such a vibrant and uplifting atmosphere! The prices are a bit expensive! Their beverages are a must-try, especially the Piña Colada—it’s absolutely delightful! They accept visa carde. 🤑

They are nice at first but made errors with our order and even though we refused a drink because it was wrong TWICE, they insisted on charging for it. Really, I had 3 problems while visiting this town and definitely will not waste money here ever again.

Ordered a grilled fish fillet sandwich. It was juicy end, so tasty easily the best meal I’ve had in Bayahíbe. The Mojito was so good and very strong, 2 ounces of rum! The music was fun too, some people were dancing. fun vibe! Will return!

Went in on Christmas Eve, no reservation, not crowded at 7:30 pm, no wait time to be seated. Fantastic central location with a view of the pier, cozy and familiar ambience, friendly staff. Asked what their fish specialty was, they explained they are the only ones in the region to prepare the lion fish (due to the spikes which are a pain to deal with). True or not, the fish in its orange/ginger sauce was delicious. The salad on the side was seasoned with a perfectly fresh light dressing. Rice and tostones were superb too. Ah and not to mention the mojito! Fresh, not too sweet, not too heavy on liquor... everything I tried was perfect! Congrats and thanks!

Bella 'Mbriana Bayahibe - Pizzeria Italiana is a delightful culinary haven that captures the essence of authentic Italian dining. With its inviting atmosphere, adorned with lush greenery and soft lighting, it sets the perfect backdrop for a memorable meal. Guests rave about the attentive service provided by staff like Rafael, who expertly guide diners through an enticing menu filled with delicious options.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Bella ’Mbriana Bayahibe - Pizzeria Italiana, and wow—what a delight! From the moment we walked in, we were enchanted by the restaurant’s beautiful and uniquely stylish décor. Our server, Rafael, deserves a special mention—always attentive, patient, and smiling, making us feel truly welcome. His recommendations were spot-on. The lobster pasta absolutely surprised us (and in the best way possible)—not just a few bits, but a whole lobster, paired with an exceptional sauce and top-quality pasta. The Burrata salad was equally impressive: fresh, vibrant ingredients that really make the dish shine. The pizza was baked to perfection, with a high-quality dough that made every bite unforgettable. We trusted Rafael when he suggested the cheesecake for dessert—and oh, was it worth it. Perfectly balanced, creamy, and just the right ending to the meal. And let’s not forget the sangria—cold, dreamy, and exactly what you want to sip in Bayahibe. We left feeling full, happy, and already thinking about our next visit. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Italian flavors and a warm, personal touch in service.

Came here for a lunch. Ambience is wonderful. Servers very attentive. We ordered cheese pizza, fish of the day with potatoes and seafood pasta. Everything was tasty, but nothing exceptional. Pizza was very thin but delicious, I would not consider it a full meal. Prices are expensive for the amount of food. One bottle of water was 250 pesos.

This place is a gem! Our server Rafael was amazing, he was very attentive and helped us with the menu selection, Which were delicious! The pasta angel was a delicious shrimp pasta with pistachio cream sauce. We also ordered the fresh fish of the day branzino which was cooked to perfection, light, tender and juicy. The pizzas were also exquisite , thin and crispy. The atmosphere is also wonderful with dim lights, great smooth music and lush greenery.
Wellington F — Google review
I really wanted to like this place because the atmosphere was beautiful but after a long day, my family was super hungry. We ordered two pizzas and they were paper thin. Don't get wrong. I've had thin pizzas but this was not that. It was honestly the flimsiest I have ever seen or had. It was tasty but we left disappointed.
Jan C — Google review
The ambiance here is stellar. Come in the late afternoon for the breeze, in the evening for the charm. Either way, the wood fired pizza is authentically Italian. Italian wines, red or white, brilliantly complement anything you order. The spacious, but unadorned parking lot belies the beautifully clean, flowering vine strewn dining area, accented with a fountain and pool. It fairly begs you to slow down and be present in this perfect moment. Pizza toppings are generous, crusts are crisp and flawless. You’ll want to return.

We went back twice during our stay, that’s how good it was! The pizza were super good and the owner spiced oil just magic. People were very nice and communicative. Recommend greatly. Nice plate to have for lunch but too expensive for the portion they serve as they are very small. I had a lobster and there were only a few spoons of meat on it. Also we had fish with a few fries. The service was good, the waitress was very attentive. Overall I would not visit again.

NOT trying to overcharge tourists at ALL!!! Used to be run by Paola then Manuel took over ownership and it’s just an overall great place!

Bravo! Although I come to Dominicus often, I finally could come here to try one of their specialties: Crab Linguini. I’m coming back this week for the Prawn Linguini (linguini de langostinos)

Incredible seafood - squid, fish, shrimp, lobster, everything was fresh and tasty. The best we ate during our stay in DR. Huge portions. Prices are very low for the quality. Staff is friendly and helpful. They even saw us waving at mosquitoes and brought us a repellent.

At b.loved, the hotel restaurant at Catalonia Royal in Bayahibe, guests are treated to a delightful culinary experience. The menu boasts a variety of starters and main courses that not only taste incredible but are also beautifully presented. The ambiance is calm and inviting, although the air conditioning can be a bit too cool at times. Attentive and friendly staff members like Yinery and Modesto enhance the dining experience with their warm service. Each dish is crafted uniquely, making every meal memorable.
Probably the best place to eat in the resort. Staff is friendly and attentive. Food is just perfect in both taste and presentation.

Day 2

Off the beaten path
For day 2, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Teeth of the Dog Golf Course, Casa de Campo Resort & Villas. Not quite as popular as Altos de Chavón, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 8 hours.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Altos de Chavón is a recreated 16th-century Mediterranean village situated on the Chavon River in La Romana, Dominican Republic. This cultural center features an archeological museum showcasing Taino artifacts and a Grecian-style amphitheater that has hosted renowned musicians since its opening in 1982. The village boasts cobblestone streets, restaurants, bars, shops, art galleries, and craft workshops.
Need to prepare passport and sign documents before buying tickets to enter the area. The architecture is so interesting here. Every few steps is a cute angle or view of the houses. So pleasant to walk around. There are a lot of stores and restaurants. The village is very small but very interesting. Super cute place.

Historic charm and spectacular views. We spent the day walking around, visiting shops, and tasting food and drink. You may catch a wedding or a concert on any day.

This is a place you have to visit once in your lifetime. An amphitheatre that is carved in the stone, just look at the pictures and judge for yourself, also if you like golf you can enjoy the best golf course in the Caribbean and possibly all Latinoamérica in Casa De Campo as well.
Ramon V — Google review
This place is an oasis. If you are interested in craftsmanship, history and supporting local artisans, this is the place. We absolutely loved the church, the amphitheater, and the museum was the highlight for us. Learning about the local indigenous culture and seeing original artifacts. If you want an experience that’s a little more special… and to find a souvenir that really means something, this is the place. There are small boutiques, and artists studios to visit. We didn’t eat there, but there are restaurants as well.

Beautiful Mediterranean inspired church and village perched on the cliffs overlooking the Chavon River. Even after finding out it was a real estate development project in the 80s, the stone work, landscape, and charm of this spot transports you in time.

Crismarlyn J — Google review
A Hidden Mediterranean Village in the Heart of the Caribbean. Perched above the winding Chavón River, Altos de Chavón feels like stepping into another world where time slows down and stone-paved streets tell stories of art, music, and culture. Designed in the late 1970s as a tribute to 16th-century Mediterranean villages, this one-of-a-kind place was brought to life by Dominican architect José Antonio Caro and Italian designer Roberto Coppa. Built entirely by local artisans using limestone, handcrafted wood, and wrought iron, every corner of the village carries the warmth and pride of its makers. Visitors enter through the gates of Casa de Campo, the private resort that surrounds Altos de Chavón. Guests of the resort can access the village freely, while outside visitors pay an entry fee that typically ranges from 25 to 50 dollars per person, depending on what’s included. Once inside, you’ll find narrow cobblestone streets lined with artisan shops, galleries, and cafés, along with stunning views of the river valley below. One of the most visited spots is the small but beautiful St. Stanislaus Church, where a relic from the saint himself, ashes sent by Pope John Paul II, rests behind the altar. At the heart of the village is the amphitheater, a 5,000-seat open-air venue carved into the hillside. Since its grand opening concert in 1982 featuring Frank Sinatra, the stage has welcomed some of the world’s biggest performers including Elton John, Andrea Bocelli, Juan Luis Guerra, Sting, Plácido Domingo, Luis Miguel, and Marc Anthony. With its impressive acoustics and dramatic backdrop, the amphitheater offers a unique concert experience under the stars. Altos de Chavón also offers several excellent dining options. Alegría serves a varied menu with breathtaking views of the river, with favorites like lobster rice, croquetas, and perfectly grilled churrasco. Onno’s Café, just steps from the amphitheater, is a laid-back spot popular for cocktails and quick bites. Other notable places include Chilango Taquería for tacos, La Piazzetta for Italian dishes, and Dye Fore Bar for drinks with a panoramic view. It’s important to note that after 5 p.m., non-resort guests are not allowed to dine in the village unless invited by someone staying in Casa de Campo, so plan accordingly if you’re visiting for the day. Parking is simple and close to the entrance, especially near Onno’s. The village is best explored on foot, but wear comfortable shoes, as the cobblestone paths can be uneven. Arriving early in the day allows for a quieter visit and the best photo opportunities, while sunset brings a magical glow over the river valley that’s hard to forget. Altos de Chavón also houses a fascinating archaeological museum with thousands of artifacts from pre-Columbian cultures. For those interested in hands-on experiences, there are art studios offering pottery, weaving, and silkscreen workshops. The village is home to a prestigious design school affiliated with Parsons, making it a creative hub where you’re just as likely to meet students sketching as tourists exploring. On certain weekends, you might stumble upon a local artisan market, with live music and handcrafts adding even more charm to an already special visit. Concert nights bring the village to life, and if you plan ahead, attending a show at the amphitheater is an unforgettable highlight. Altos de Chavón isn’t just a tourist attraction. It’s a carefully crafted escape filled with beauty, history, and inspiration. Whether you’re drawn by the architecture, the art, the music, or the peaceful atmosphere, this hilltop village offers a glimpse into something truly timeless in the heart of the Dominican Republic.

Teeth of the Dog Golf Course, Casa de Campo Resort & Villas

Golf course
The Teeth of the Dog Golf Course, situated in the picturesque Caribbean, is a renowned 18-hole golf course located by the mesmerizing waterfront. It is often regarded as a must-play course in the region and stands out with its stunning ocean-hugging holes that resemble jagged canine teeth. Designed by esteemed golf architect Peter Dye, this championship course is one of three distinct courses within Casa de Campo luxury resort spread across 7,000 acres in La Romana.
AMAZING golf course and experience!! Had a wonderful time, views are spectacular!! I've played Pebble Beach twice and this is more scenic. Course was in great condition. My caddie Javier was also excellent. Will definitely be back.
J. A — Google review
Some golf courses are played with clubs. Others are lived and remembered long after the final putt. Teeth of the Dog, the legendary Pete Dye design at Casa de Campo in La Romana, belongs firmly in that second category. It is not just the top-ranked course in the Caribbean. It is an experience that demands respect and rewards precision, offering one of the most memorable rounds of golf anywhere in the Western Hemisphere. Carved out of coral rock and Dominican coastline in 1971, this course was Pete Dye’s personal favorite. Seven of its holes run so close to the Caribbean Sea that ocean spray sometimes reaches the green. But it is not just about the scenery. Teeth of the Dog is a test of strategy, discipline, and creativity. The layout moves effortlessly between coastal spectacle and quieter inland moments, creating a rhythm that keeps players alert and engaged from the first tee to the eighteenth green. From holes 5 to 8, the course bares its teeth. Hole 5, a par 3 perched beside the waves, punishes indecision. Hole 7 dares players to cut the corner of a dogleg wrapped around the sea. Later in the round, hole 16 presents one of the toughest challenges. It is a long par 4 framed by the ocean on the left and wind that shifts direction without warning. On a breezy afternoon, a par here feels like a small triumph. Course conditions are superb. Fairways are tightly mown and offer excellent roll. Greens are quick, true, and subtly contoured. The bunkers are sharp-edged, clean, and never placed randomly. Every hazard matters. The rough is playable but penal enough to encourage discipline off the tee. Drainage is excellent, even after heavy tropical rain, and signage throughout the course is discreet and clear. Support facilities meet the standards of elite private clubs. The clubhouse has sea views and a relaxed but refined setting for lunch or a drink after the round. The pro shop is well-stocked with top-tier brands and offers excellent service. Practice facilities include a full driving range with natural grass, short-game area, and large putting greens that accurately reflect the speed and texture of the course. Locker rooms are spacious and well-appointed. Caddies are knowledgeable and offer the right balance between guidance and discretion. Currently, the course is undergoing a full restoration led by Jerry Pate Design, scheduled from January through December 2025. The work includes re-grassing the entire course with Dynasty Paspalum, rebuilding bunkers, restoring original green contours, improving drainage with sand-capping, and renewing cart paths with concrete curbing. The project honors Pete Dye’s original design while enhancing long-term playability. Though closed for play as of July 2025, the anticipation for its reopening is high, and deserved. Teeth of the Dog has hosted the Latin America Amateur Championship and other major regional tournaments. Green fees for resort guests are approximately $395, including cart and practice balls. Early tee times are recommended to enjoy calmer winds and a quieter atmosphere. Non-golfers can relax at the Beach Club or explore nearby Altos de Chavón, a replica Mediterranean village offering panoramic views and cultural experiences. The course suits low to mid-handicap players best, though forward tees provide access to the design’s beauty without overwhelming less experienced golfers. From December to April, conditions are ideal. Year-round play is viable thanks to excellent maintenance and thoughtful course engineering. Once your round ends, stop by the 19th Hole Bar for something light and refreshing. It’s the perfect closing ritual, quiet, shaded, and steps from the final green. If you found this review helpful, please consider follow & leaving a like. 😉❤️

Immaculately maintained course with breathtaking views of the sea. It was designed by Pete Dye and it is the only course in the world with seven holes bordering on the Caribbean Sea. They are collectively known as the “holes created by god”. For the most part, the caddies were knowledgeable and helpful with few exceptions. The only real downside is the absolutely outrageous price. For a single who is a hotel guest the cost is $575 Canadian including the $100US mandatory cash tip for caddy service. Club rental adds about $100 on top of that plus 18% mandatory taxes. It all adds up to about $800 Canadian per game. This makes for a crazy expensive golf week on top of the huge accommodations costs. The only other thing worth mentioning is the Pro Shop. We shopped here during the afternoon when it was quiet and although there were few shoppers and three sales clerks, no one was interested in selling anything to us. The women all chatted away to each other in Spanish and basically ignored us. Not cool by any standards let alone at a luxury golf establishment. Given the prices, a little service would have been appreciated.

Honestly, I came to the Dominican Republic for Teeth of the Dog. Maybe my expectations were too high, because I felt slightly—just slightly—disappointed. It’s a good course, no doubt, but with so many great options here, I’m not sure it’s top 100 worthy. Still glad I played it.
MAX K — Google review
Played both Teeth of the Dog and The Links. Both amazing courses and the caddies are amazing. Nothing matches up to this in the world, definitely play if you get the chance! The ocean holes are what golf dreams are made of.

Wonderful experience! Well designed beautiful course and breathtaking ocean views. I've played Pebble Beach and this is right up there or better. That's why I played this course often. I never got tired of it. Staff was friendly and cordial. The 19th green with all the free drinks was a great after event to gather all of our scores to wrap up a great day of golf.
Rafael S — Google review
It's one of the most beautiful courses you can play. With spectacular views, challenging holes, and ocean breezes, you can have a round to remember. Course is kept in immaculate shade. Everything is pressed, cut, and groomed to perfection. No wonder it's in the world's top courts. Staff is knowledgeable, polite, and very helpful. You'll pay a little more to play here, but you should have a blast.

Request Rene Division! Teeth of the Dog was under renovation so I played Dye Fore, where Rene Division was my assigned caddie — he was outstanding, and I’ll be requesting him for every round I play moving forward at Casa de Campo!

Minitas Beach Club & Restaurant

Minitas Beach is a picturesque stretch of sand located at Casa de Campo Resort and Villas, covering 7000 acres of Dominican seaside. The resort offers an elegant yet unpretentious atmosphere with a replica Mediterranean Village and Grecian Amphitheater. Visitors can enjoy Mediterranean cuisine in a luxurious yacht club environment with sweeping views of the beach. While the food options may be lacking for some, others find delight in the Spanish cuisine and flavors like paella and Arepas appetizer.
The food was so fresh and yummy! I got the Salmon! The coconut custard and cheesecake were my favorite desserts at the resort! They have vegetarian options which is always a plus! My husband had the pizza and my son had the whole fried fish! Everything was scrumptious!

One of the freshest most delicious calamari I have ever had. Not your regular frozen calamari. You can tell they make it there, and it comes with an amazing black aioli. Signature drinks were unique and different from others as well. Very fair priced with excellent service. Will return.

Minitas Beach Club & Restaurant was delicious! The food was incredible. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was memorable. Highly recommend eating here.
Scott G — Google review
Minitas Beach Club, located within the exclusive Casa de Campo resort in La Romana, is far more than a beachfront restaurant. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed into a relaxed yet refined atmosphere where every detail feels intentional. Few places have made me feel as genuinely cared for. The service is one of the restaurant’s strongest assets, led with grace and professionalism by maître d’ Yosary Sánchez, alongside Service Manager José Doroteo and a remarkable team that includes Yorbel, Natanael, and Yensi. Their attentiveness feels natural, never rehearsed, and their warmth elevates the entire experience. The setting is stunning. With open-air seating just steps from the Caribbean, the space is designed with light woods, neutral tones, and clean lines that blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Whether you’re visiting for lunch under the sun or dinner beneath the stars, the atmosphere is consistently serene. If you’re with an adults-only group, I highly recommend spending time at the oceanfront infinity pool. Reserved exclusively for adults, it offers a calm, elegant space with full service and unobstructed views of the sea. The food reflects a thoughtful blend of international and Caribbean flavors. The tuna tartare with Dominican avocado and citrus emulsion is a standout starter—fresh, vibrant, and well-balanced. The grilled dorado over coconut risotto is perfectly executed, both delicate and flavorful. For a heartier option, the Caribbean-spiced lamb rack is rich and tender, cooked with precision and full of character. The drinks menu also deserves praise. The wine list includes labels from Europe and the Americas, while the cocktails are creative and well-crafted. The Ron Fashioned, made with aged Dominican rum, cinnamon, and cacao bitters, is particularly memorable. Happy hour is offered daily from 5 to 7 p.m., with select cocktails at half price, making it the perfect moment to enjoy the view and a carefully mixed drink. Nearby, several other venues complete the experience. Minitas Market, open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., sells artisanal gifts, beachwear, and local gourmet items. Minitas Deli & Pizza offers wood-fired pizzas and sandwiches from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., with its own happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. Palmita Café is ideal for breakfast or a light snack and is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. On the beach, you’ll also find casual options like Brasa and Massa food trucks, the Squeeze Juice Bar, and Cinco Ice Cream Shop. A little-known fact about Minitas Beach Club is that its current culinary and design direction was inspired by the visit of a well-known Catalan chef in 2018, who encouraged a complete reimagining of the space. Since then, the restaurant has hosted international artists, designers, and celebrities during private events at Casa de Campo, earning a reputation for discretion and quality. Minitas Beach Club is open daily from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m., with bar service starting at 10 a.m. The infinity pool operates from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is reserved for adults. Sunday brunch, from 12 to 4 p.m., features live cooking stations, ambient music, and off-menu specials. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, and dress codes apply: casual by day and resort casual by night. Swimwear is allowed in lounge areas but not in the main dining room. Minitas Beach Club is not just a place to eat. It’s a place to savor the moment, appreciate the setting, and enjoy genuine hospitality at every level. Whether you’re here for a romantic evening, a long lunch with friends, or a peaceful solo escape, it delivers a consistently memorable experience. If you found this review helpful, please consider leaving a like and follow me. 😉❤️

We came here for lunch every day and could not get enough of the food. There are so many amazing bits of Spanish cuisine to try out, including a couple flavors of paella which is traditionally a popular choice. Highly recommend the Arepas appetizer. The main seating area also has a direct ocean view, which makes for a relaxing and scenic atmosphere. The neighboring pool is adults-only, and also has its own bar right next to it.

Beautiful private beach/beach club, a little expensive but its clean and you have all you need. After you pay an entrance fee you can spend as much time as you want there. Food and drinks are of course additionally charged. Calm water and overall enjoyable.

Vibes. Views. Service. Food. This place has it all. Besides the seafood platter and other amazing options, the zucchini fritters are absolutely superb - could have eaten a full meal of just those. A must have snack or starter.
Mikefitzgerald — Google review
The view was great and so is the beach. Relaxing and friendly. It’s a quiet beach, perfect for families. However the only thing that let me down was the food. The choices were not the best and quite lacking and it also took quite a long time for the food to come. I expected from a place like this for the standard to be higher but maybe my standards were too high. Although i would definitely recommend going to the beach for the great views.

Excursions with Mariposa Tours in the Dominican Republic are more than just a wonderful experience, they are adventures. We have taken 4 different excursions with Mariposa, both to inland sites as well as to beautiful nearby islands in the Caribbean Sea. Each of these are full day experiences with multiple sites of interest along the way. The guides are multi-lingual and very knowledgable, able to answer any question you have. We especially appreciate their attention to details of safety. Always very professional, the staff ensures that you also have a lot of fun along the way!

Gabriel is very kind and cares about your tour from the beginning. He should improve the service by having all the information about every different tour when chatting over WhatsApp because sometimes you just want all the information of a particular tour in text in your WhatsApp and not get the information through a phone call. We did the Saona tour in speed boat (round trip) and we loved it, very punctual, we visited nice beaches away from the crowd. The food was ok. They run out of rum at the end, it would be better to have an extra bottle just in case.

L' Ombelico Del Mundo is a restaurant in the heart of La Romana offering delectable cuisine. Their appetizer, the seafood mix, and their entree, the whole fried fish, are both mouthwatering options. However, it's important to note that the service can be slow at times, even when there are only three occupied tables. The passion fruit juice may not be as fresh as expected.

I had a beer and a Hamburger with fries, dine in. It wasn't busy, 3 maybe 4 tables were occupied, one couple just had wine. I waited 30 or 40 minutes for a so-so burger that was under cooked inside. I brought it to the attention of the cook as he was outside on his phone. Sorry I have to be honest, it won't take much to improve. Pizza seems popular.

Delicious meals: Seafood mix (appetizer) and whole fried fish (entrée). Service was pretty slow (only 3 tables occupied at the time, we were the first out the 3 to sit and order), so maybe not the best if in a rush. “Fresh” passion fruit juice was okay. (Not really “that” fresh)

Nature & Parks
Saona Island, located in the southeastern side of the Dominican Republic, is a popular destination known for its serene beaches and coral reefs, making it a favorite among divers and snorkelers. The island is surrounded by lush natural beauty and offers stunning views across the sea. With approximately 2,000 visitors daily, it's evident that Saona Island is a beloved spot for both locals and foreigners alike.
Visiting Saona Island was one of the highlights of my trip to the Dominican Republic! This place truly feels like a tropical paradise, with its crystal-clear turquoise waters, soft white sand, and swaying palm trees. It’s exactly what you picture when you think of the Caribbean! The boat ride to the island was an adventure in itself—starting with a speedboat ride and a stop at the famous Natural Pool, where we waded in waist-deep, warm waters surrounded by starfish. On the way back, we took a catamaran cruise, which was a relaxing and fun experience, with music, dancing, and drinks included. Once on the island, the scenery was breathtaking. The beach was pristine, the water was perfect for swimming, and there were plenty of lounge chairs to relax under the sun. The tour included a buffet lunch, which was pretty good, and drinks were available throughout the stay. The only downside was that it can get crowded, especially around lunchtime, since many tours visit at the same time. However, if you walk a bit further down the beach, you can find quieter spots to enjoy the beauty of the island. Overall, Saona Island is a must-visit if you're in Punta Cana or nearby! The stunning landscapes and relaxing atmosphere make it a perfect day trip to escape and soak in the Caribbean vibes. Highly recommended! 🌊☀️

Most beautiful island I’ve ever seen which such lovely people on the island, great buffet lunch fresh and lovely (included in our excursion). You also see cute grabs scattering about. Though If you’ve booked an excursion with open bar and buffet- this excursion is a bit manic as it’s not very organised in timings. We only got 1.45 hour on the island when originally we were told 3. So make sure you pick a good provider with good reviews. Also be prepared to pay a load of money if they take your photos..

The most magical and stunning beach (island) I ever visited in my entire life. Words are not enough to express my feelings toward this island…
Hardik P — Google review
Isla Saona is absolutely stunning, a bounty island. The sea and the island are breathtaking and the natural pool stop is awesome (children can stand in the water, but please leave the animals alone). Fast boats are worth the extra cost: a slow boat wastes time and you’ll just get sunburned; for young people, the party-boat option is a lot more fun. Drinks sold on the beach can be expensive — try one and share, but bring your own drinks and sandwiches (pancakes and fruit from breakfast work great) to be safe, because on the boat trip they will asume you’re meat lover meat and/or pork. Not enough fruit and veggies for vegans and vegatarians! Bring a big hat and reapply sunscreen constantly — 10–20 times if you don’t want to come back like a red lobster. This goes for skin types white to brown. Bring you own musicbox and create youw own vibe. The view is magnificent either way and well worth the trip. This is a must see Island!

Isla Saona: Nature’s VIP Lounge — Five Stars, Zero Complaints If you’re ever in the Dominican Republic and don’t take a trip to Isla Saona, did you really even go? Because let me tell you, this island isn’t just beautiful — it’s a living screensaver, but with actual sea breezes, giant starfish, and zero Wi-Fi (which is honestly part of the magic). Getting There: We arrived on the island like explorers of old — except with sunscreen, sunglasses, and a boat full of excited tourists and reggaeton beats. The boat ride itself was a highlight: blue skies, turquoise waters, and that feeling that you’re slowly leaving reality behind. (Pro tip: don’t sit near the speakers unless you want your ribcage massaged by bass.) Nature Up Close and Personal: Once we landed, it felt like stepping into a postcard. Nature doesn’t just “surround” you on Isla Saona — it basically hugs you. Palm trees lean casually over the beach like they own the place (and honestly, they do), while the soft white sand welcomes you like a powdered donut made of dreams. Yes, there are some seaweed patches washed ashore, but they’re not the nasty kind — they just kind of vibe there, like nature’s beach towels. Nothing smelly or gross, just authentic seaside realism. Think of it as seasoning for your Instagram photos. The Water & Underwater Wonderland: Now let’s talk water. Crystal clear, bathtub warm, and shimmering like liquid turquoise. The kind of water that makes you rethink your entire life and wonder why you don’t live on a beach full-time. Whatever you do: BRING YOUR SNORKEL AND MASK. I’m not kidding. This is not a drill. The underwater life is next-level. We saw giant seashells (the kind you could hear the ocean from... probably because it was literally still in the ocean), and massive starfish that looked like they were training for the Sea Olympics. It’s like swimming in an aquarium, but without the glass or judgmental fish. Turtle Rescue Station (aka: The Surprise Gem of the Island): In a little village on the island, we stumbled upon a sea turtle rescue center — yes, really! Not only was it fascinating, it was heartwarming to see locals working to protect these ancient, flippered creatures. We learned a lot (and possibly got a little emotional, but let’s blame the saltwater). A great stop if you want a dash of education with your sunburn. Final Verdict: Isla Saona is paradise with personality. You get untouched nature, pristine beaches, epic snorkeling, and even a feel-good turtle experience. It’s the kind of place where your soul exhales — and where your phone battery dies, but in the best possible way. Five stars. Ten if I could. Just go. And don’t forget your snorkel — or your awe.

Definitely a must visit if you go to DR! This island is so pretty! Clear water, good vibes, and relaxing views. I joined a day tour, and even though there were many tourists, you can easily walk 5-10 minutes and find almost empty spots. Love it!

Magical place. True tropical paradise. Visited in May 2025 and the amount of boats and people on the island was probably 20x more than when I visited in 2019. Shame really. But I presume it’s getting more and more popular based on 11m tourists per year visiting Dominican Republic. It’s still definitely worth doing a trip to the island. I booked a speedboat - saona - catameran trip via Trip Advisor. Cost $119 dollars for two Including coach transfers from hotel etc.

Palmera Turistica Saona

Beach
Palmera Turistica Saona, located on Saona Island, is renowned for its stunning pink sand beaches and rich marine life. One of the most famous spots, Playa del Gato, offers pristine conditions and an abundance of sea creatures. Visitors can explore various beautiful beaches on the island. The sand is white and the water is clear with a heavier consistency that keeps it less murky when disturbed. The shallow waters extend far from the shore, making it safe for children to play in.
They call this "The Pisina Natural." You take a boat ride to the middle of the ocean, and the water does not pass your waist in depth. From there, they take you on the beach to enjoy an authentic Dominican lunch, drinks, massage, and more. From there you get on another boat for a party. They have 2 photographers depending on the size of the group on excursion, so you don't have to worry about taking photos. Great excursion.

A beautiful beach with BLUE water and white sand. Our catamaran trip was well worth it. The buffet was very good.
Denise L — Google review
This place is possibly the most beautiful island I have ever seen. There isn't much to add to this. The sand is white and the water is clear. The sand has a heavier consistency which means the water is less murky when the sand is disturbed. The water is shallow for several feet away from shore. My children, 11 and 9 yrs old, and I were able to venture out nearly 300m from shore and the water still came only to the chest of my 9 yr old. In short, the beach is like an enormous pool. My only issue is the the water is filled with rock that can cause real damage to unsuspecting toes. Be extremely careful when walking or wear water shoes that have a rubber sole. Also, patrons on the island try to sell you everything. Women will approach you and begin massaging your back to entice you to a massage. Nothing sexual. They just want you to accept the invitation for a massage. They don't discriminate. They approach men, women, and children.

Saona is BEAUTIFUL! The pink sand is so soft, there are seashells everywhere on the beach. We were served a simple but delicious lunch. We took a party boat from Bayahibe which was a blast, and then stopped by the "natural pool" and found starfish! It was so much fun, we highly recommend going!

The Excursion to Isla Saona in Catamaran Colonial Tour and Travel offers this tour to Isla Saona, which is the most sold tour in the Dominican Republic, starting from the hotels of Punta Cana-Bavaro, La Romana-Bayahibe. Juan Dolio, Boca Chica or Santo Domingo at 7:00 am in comfortable buses with air conditioning and bathrooms if they are large buses until you reach the picturesque town of Bayahibe at 9:00 am. From the beach of Bayahibe we will embark on a beautiful catamaran with all the security measures and accompanied by expert guides in all languages. During the trajectory towards Isla Saona on the catamaran you can enjoy snacks and national alcoholic beverages and water, soft drinks as well as try the delicious tropical fruits. Immediately you will enjoy the beautiful views of the true Caribbean and its transparent waters with white sands like salt until you reach the famous Saona Island at around 11:00 am. It is the custom of hikers to bring some candies to give to the children of the small fishing villages that live on the Island. There will be time to take a delicious bath in its clean and crystal clear waters of the beaches of the island where we have a special area reserved for customers with chaise-longues while some people enjoy entertainment and classes of Merengue and Salsa with our staff of animators and others will be collecting snails or taking pictures of the beach. But ... they are close to 1:30 p.m. and hunger attacks us. In a restaurant area covered with beautiful palapas and palm trees we will have a delicious buffet based on lobster spaghetti, fish, chops, grilled chicken, green and Russian salads, white rice and legumes, tropical vegetables and fruits, coffee and drink local included. We will rest that magnificent lunch taking the soft breeze of the Island and talking with the hospitable islanders or we will nap on the beach. At 2:30 pm, we will return by comfortable and safe speedboats and it is almost mandatory to visit the beautiful mangroves, attached to the Catuano Canal, which separates Saona Island from the mainland. Where we will see a school of fish of all colors that approach the boats waiting for us to throw them and piece of bread. Then we continue to the largest sandbar in the area, where there are many marine species, especially starfish. The largest pool in the world, named for its shallow depth of 1 meter, crystal clear water, sandbank and 400 meters from the coast in the middle of the sea. It is there where the most charming toast is made, a true dream of the Caribbean

Our trip to Saona was amazing with this group. Great atmosphere and the people working want you to have an amazing time. They hit the mark on everything and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Danny (¡Chupi Chupi!) was a fantastic host that made sure everyone was safe and taken care of. Unlimited drinks and a very nice Dominican Buffett was waiting for us on Saona Island. Rafael (sorry if not spelled correctly) was also a top tier worker who went out of his way to make sure my wife and I were taken care of and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. He was also our photographer on this trip that took fantastic pictures; I highly suggest finding him to take your pictures! I see a bright future for this young man and I wish I could personally thank him (again) for his hospitality. If you are taking a tour to Saona, don’t hesitate to go with these guys, you won’t be disappointed. A++ experience that everyone coming to the Dominican Republic should witness for their own benefit!

Beach
Playa Dominicus, also known as Dominicus Beach, is a stunning coastal gem located on the south coast of the Dominican Republic. This Blue Flag Beach boasts clear and warm waters with minimal undertow, making it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The area offers soft white sand, palm-fringed shores, and beachside bars where visitors can savor the Caribbean charm. Playa Dominicus is also home to vendors selling food and water toys, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of this picturesque beach.
beautiful beach, of course a bit touristy and also more for snobs 😀 But even here you can find very nice living under $ 50 a night for 2 people, so it's not so bad. Still better of beaches in Bavaro in Punta Cana.

Playa Dominicus is a true Caribbean paradise, where crystal-clear waters meet soft, white sands in perfect harmony. The gentle sea breeze, the soothing sound of the waves, and the endless horizon create a scene of pure tranquility. Whether you seek relaxation or adventure, this breathtaking beach welcomes you with its natural beauty and serene charm.

They say that all beaches in the Dominican Republic are public but it's just not true in practice. This is one of the few public beaches that haven't been grabbed by the resorts and corded off. The parking is fine and it's a short walk to the beach, the water is calm and the sand is wonderful, but because it's the only public place nearby they squeeze everyone into a tiny space and I've never seen such a crowded beach ever. There are security people guarding the resort areas and you have to just stick in the small space they give you. There's a lot of music and dancing going on, and tourist stalls selling stuff like rings and towels and whatever. We walked along it and left without getting in the water. I don't think there was free space! I wouldn't go back.

It is hard to find the entrance since the is no sign (at least 2 entrances to the beach have a rocky road, without any care). As soon as you get to the sand there is a sign warning that "you ever a notsurethename hotel property... the public part where your can stay is really small and has no shade. You can see how well the private part is comparing to the locals stores on the other side, who don't even have a portion of sand.

Bayahibe, a charming Caribbean town in the Dominican Republic, is a paradise for snorkeling enthusiasts. The area boasts stunning beaches and an impressive local artisan scene. Visitors can explore nearby Taino cave systems and enjoy the low-key vibe of the town. With its long stretches of white sandy beaches, Bayahibe offers a perfect setting for relaxation and beach activities. The town is near multiple resorts, providing access to various amenities such as dance classes and cocktail bars.
Pristine nature in an area that is for now not as developed. There is a beautiful State Park in the area well worth visiting. Breathtaking sunsets.

Beautiful beach. No public restrooms. Can get a bit crowded depending on the time of day you decide to go. Water was gorgeous.
Anjulee S — Google review
This place was near multiple resorts, so naturally has a lot of people. Public access is really weird but if you stay in the resort each part of the beach is “roped” off according to the resort you are staying at. Some have a dance class right in front and some have a cocktail bar. The place is a little crowded but a very nice walk on the sand and no one would bat an eye if you are there.
Kelly D — Google review
It's the public area of the beach. That being said, they keep it clean and the beach invites you to get in, as the sand under your feet feels like silk (really). There are a couple of places to eat (the fried fish is good) and they also take good care of the clients. The area is not crowded early in the morning, but after noon you may find a good deal of groups and families taking advantage of the beach, so keep it in mind.

Scubacaribe - Dreams Dominicus La Romana offers an incredible opportunity to explore the vibrant underwater world of the Caribbean Sea. With nearly ten diving clubs at your disposal, you can dive into stunning coral reefs and encounter a diverse array of marine life, including colorful fish, turtles, and more. Whether you're a novice or an experienced diver, there's something for everyone.
My wife and I took the ScubaCaribe trip to Saona Island today. It was an extreme pleasure from beginning to end. The staff were all friendly, and informational when examining the islands history. The food/drinks once on the Island were perfect, and the few hours of relaxation on the island was a nice break from the rush of the Resort. We took a giant Catamaran on our way back, and my wife and I laid on the front netting area which was amazing. Staff got some dance music going, and they were great at getting everyone involved in dancing, teaching those who didn't know, the dances to certain songs. Highly highly recommend this adventure to anyone who goes to Dreams La Romana, as it was probably the most fun, yet relaxation we've had our on entire trip so far. Andy and his team are all amazing. *cheers*

Submarino no recommendo… We wanted a short snorkeling trip from our resort and this “submarino” was really the only option - for about fifty bucks per person. Unfortunately, it did not go well. It seems like this is something they outsource and it was a gong show from the pick up at the reception area. The bus/van that was picking us up was not marked with a ScubaCaribe logo or anything and there was no signage or anything. After waiting 5 minutes past the scheduled departure, the driver eventually came up to us and asked if we were waiting for the Submarino (he spoke no English) and then was exasperated when I said “yes” - I assume because he had been waiting for us - not really sure - as we were standing with the other 7 people who were also going. Anyhow, once we arrived at the beach in Bayahibe, we were shuttled out to the “Yellow Submarine”. It took two shuttle trips to get all of the people out to the Submarino - about 40 people. After a longer than expected wait, we were guided to go to the underwater part of the boat which has seats and windows for viewing under water. The motor/transmission was making some ominous grinding noises as it started up and we moved only at a snails pace. The promise was that we would be trolling past some coral reef where one of the crew members would be diving and feeding the fish to enhance the viewing experience. Following this, we would be viewing a sunken ship. We saw none of that. After bobbing around in the water for 20 minutes, barely moving and seeing nothing but the sandy bottom, people started getting sick. It was very hot on the lower deck and the rocking without much forward movement was extremely nauseating. Everyone eventually evacuated back to the upper deck. After floating around in our own exhaust fumes for another 40 minutes or so, we eventually returned to where we started at which point we were able to snorkel for an hour. The Snorkeling was okay. Not what was expected again, though. There were a few coral mounds and a decent collection of fish. A few people had begun throwing up by this time but that’s likely largely due to the choppy conditions. I’m pretty sure that the main problem was mechanical malfunction. This boat does not look well-maintained. Only one of the two outboard motors was operating and the housing of that one was covered in duct tape (see photos). After everyone was eventually shuttled back to shore, we couldn’t find the driver that originally dropped us off. Eventually at taxi showed up with just enough capacity to take us all back to the resort. Overall, a pretty disappointing experience. The staff on the boat were courteous and reasonably friendly but they were certainly not set up for success.
Brent F — Google review
The friendly “beach salesman” did exaggerate a few aspects of the excursion, so it’s a good idea to ask detailed questions in advance. That said, for the price, it was an excellent outing. The crew was exceptionally friendly and polite, and overall it was a pleasant and memorable experience.

This was my second time diving with Scuba Caribe at Dreams Dominicus, and once again, they exceeded all expectations. I completed both my Open Water and Advanced Open Water PADI certifications with them, and every experience has been nothing short of incredible. A special thank you to Pavel, who went above and beyond during my training. He made sure I fully understood each step, corrected me when needed, and gave me invaluable tips to become a better diver and underwater photographer. He even recommended great places to find quality gear at fair prices. The entire staff at the dive center are amazing—knowledgeable, friendly, and always accommodating. Besides my training dives, I also booked recreational dives, and every site we visited was absolutely stunning with fantastic guides leading the way. One highlight was booking the Catalina Island snorkeling and diving excursion for my family. The team took such great care to ensure even the non-swimmers and our little one could enjoy snorkeling safely, while I had the unforgettable chance to dive alongside my son. It’s an experience we’ll cherish forever, and I’m so grateful to the staff for making it possible. Scuba Caribe has earned my trust and loyalty—I look forward to diving with them again, wherever in the world they have a center. Highly recommended for anyone looking for safe, fun, and professional diving in the Dominican Republic!

Disappointing unhelpful. As the on-site watersports centre for Dreams Dominicus I expected the same friendliness and hospitality as the rest of the resort. But not only were the staff unhelpful they told us that snorkeling off the beach was poor and we should pay 90USD pp to go on a "proper" snorkeling tour. A little upselling is expected but this was lazy customer service. The one Hobie cat they have was fully booked for today and tomorrow and you can only book it a day in advance, so I'll try again tomorrow.
Andrew C — Google review
I didn't stay at one of the main hotels, and booked the "Catalina Island Snorkel" package the night before we did it. It sounded a bit too good to be true. Although it technically doesn't open until 9, we were supposed to show up at 8:30, but they managed to get us on a boat anyway. They took us to "the wall" which was coral teeming with all kinds of fish, then to Catalina island where they had an open bar (rum with your choice of coke, sprite, or a beer) and souvenirs for sale. Then there was an opportunity to enjoy the beach, or go to the outdoor "aquarium" which had sting rays, starfish, and a sea turtle. They then served a pretty hearty meal, with plenty of food for seconds. The view of the beach was beautiful, then on the way back they had more rum and coke on the boat, and took us a bit inside the Chavón River which was really neat. A great experience and I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

Siwichi is a delightful dining destination that promises an exceptional culinary experience. The menu, while limited each night, showcases outstanding quality that keeps guests coming back for more. Diners rave about the delicious octopus and the fantastic starters, complemented by attentive and friendly service from the staff. Although one fruit option for dessert may have been slightly off, it certainly doesn't overshadow the overall enjoyment of a meal at Siwichi.

This place gave me and my boyfriend food poisoning on our third day of our holiday and enforced us to write a good review at the end of our meal (which I have since deleted). I did write a review about it before but it seems to have disappeared. Also after talking to other people at the hire. Looks like a reoccurring thing at this hotel that people get food poisoning, not sure we met one party of people where someone didn’t get food poising from this hotel.
