Sainte-Anne in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Sainte-Anne, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Sainte-Anne, at the southern tip of Martinique, is known for some of the island’s most celebrated beaches, including the long, palm-fringed Plage des Salines with its calm, turquoise waters. The area offers excellent swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities, plus coastal hiking trails that lead through dry forest and striking rock formations in the Savane des Pétrifications nature reserve. In the town itself, small shops, seaside restaurants, and a local market give a taste of everyday Creole life and Martinican cuisine. Its relaxed atmosphere and scenic coastline make it a popular base for exploring the island’s sunny south.
With favorites like LA DAURADE, Le Panier a Salade, and Restaurant Pirates Beach, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Restaurant Pirates Beach and LA DAURADE so you can get the best taste of Sainte-Anne while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Nature & Parks
Plage des Salines, located about two miles south of Sainte-Anne in Martinique, is a stunning beach known for its long stretch of fine white sand and clear blue waters. The beach is lined with a shady coconut grove and offers a picturesque setting that attracts both locals and tourists. It can get busy on weekends, but visiting during the week or early in the morning allows for a more tranquil experience.
Wide long beach with typical Caribbean ambience, lots of wildlife too with touloulou crabs and birdlife. I’d say go towards the western end but it’s a matter of opinion really. Can get busy.

One of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Great restaurants and drinks along side. Lots of activities to do- snorkeling, kayak, boating, jetski...

Nice beach. Nothing very special, but nice
Kyle F — Google review
🚨 BEWARE 🚨 - Drive your own/rented car here just as we did. In the case of transport by taxi, local drivers are nasty and can charge as much as 25 Euro. Loooong and famous, sandy Martinique beach with palm trees and no rocks or algae. Just remember one thing to do when the sea tide is low. Otherwise, there won't be any beach left, since the seawater goes all the way up to the trees. Also, generally, restaurants are open just till 3 PM / 15:00.
Mirosław D — Google review
One of the most spectacular beaches on the island. Many spots where you can get a coconut from which you can drink natural coconut water straight from the fruit. One downside, after 5 PM, small flies appear, their bite are not frendly. 🥹However, you can enjoy a stunning sunset from the sunbed.
Loredana L — Google review
This is one of the best beaches in the entire Caribbean. Being on a french island, it doesn't appear in any ranking because most Americans don't end up here. It's a very long, sandy beach with shallow water. Being so big and remote, it never feels busy. You have a big selection of restaurants where you can eat. There's plenty of shade under the trees. If you arrive early, like before 10AM, you can snap some amazing photos.
Dan S — Google review
We visited couple of beaches in Martinique but absolutely recommend this one. It’s Caraibean picture perfect, long enough not to feel crowded and it has showers! Plus some restaurants to eat. All you need is to find a good spot at palm trees shadow and sunscreen.
Andreea M — Google review
A very pretty, Long Beach. It is more crowded than some of the northern and/or less easily accessible beaches. Come early to get a good spot in the shade. The sand gets very hot to the touch at this beach. There are plenty of little snack restaurants/bars, but they close around 16:00. I walked to the end of the beach and continued into the woods. There are some small, more deserted patches of beach along the path, however I should note they have more nudity than the main beach does! Still highly recommend the walk.

The Savanna of Petrifications in Sainte-Anne is a unique and ancient area in Martinique, characterized by its rocky desert terrain. It stands in stark contrast to the island's lush vegetation and sandy beaches. Hiking paths wind through this rock-strewn landscape, offering coastal views and access to secluded beaches and headlands. This mysterious destination is a must-visit for those seeking a different perspective on the natural beauty of Martinique.
Great hike through the flat and rocky terrain, which takes you to a beautiful beach. The walk is about 5km from start to end and back, make sure to bring sunscreen and enough water to stay hydrated 👌
Kenzo M — Google review
Great hiking spot, be warned that Google maps will send you up the wrong road to get here. Go to Grande Anse de Salines and take the road to the end. Trail is an easy hike to the peak of a cliff over looking the ocean and the crashing seas. Bring water, prepare to wade a small oasis to continue the trail. Can get hot. Definitely a must to visit, plus if you have the time, continue the walk to the beach at the end of the trail and be rewarded with a very tropical paradise beach.
Jonathan J — Google review
Fantastic hike. Be prepared to hop on rocks or wave in waist deep water too cross the estuary at times. No elevation gain on this hike. We parked at the beach, which adds 30 minutes to reach it but where there's more parking

Nice walk but not as amazing as others on the island. Very little shadow bring enough to drink!
Phil — Google review
Great walk along the beaches. At certain points you can see some crabs walking around the trees and bushes - sometimes around your foot. After the first half hour, you will see the savane in all its glory: great view at the plateau and at some cliffs. At mostly every point you can rest and go swimming at the beach. It took us about 3 hours to there and back to the car.
Bastian S — Google review
Nice area for a good hiking. Always bring a cap and water because the sun is hitting hard over there. The landscape is amazing, looks like another planet.

Beautiful beach, not so quiet if you want your privacy. A lot of restaurants and cafe around for cocktails and food. Water is clean and for the first 15 meters not so deep. You can pay and park inside or leave your car somewhere out of the location.

My favorite beach on the island of Martinique! It’s clean and picturesque with calm and relatively shallow water that’s great for swimming and feeling safe. Also available along the beach were kayaks available to rent! The cherry on top was the short drive to the town square with many restaurants and shopping options. A+ for sure!

A MUST when in Ste Anne. Excellent local produce, spices, hand crafts & souvenirs reasonably priced. Plus - many vendors speak & understand English enough to answer questions, etc. The location alone makes this venue delightful.
Martha M — Google review
This market is small and very touristic, but it's possible to find some great typical products, like local fruit, exotic tastes jam and several rhum-based bottled cocktails. It's recommended if you want to bring back some typical product as a souvenir or gift.

The sandbank to wait for the children is not huge but appreciable for an hour. Easy parking, slightly less access. Not suitable for PMRs. Please note, no toilets at the moment but a request is in progress in the Municipality. The Pirates restaurant above is absolutely not helpful in helping out. If you're on the hunt for a delightful dining experience, look no further than Pirates Beach Restaurant. Nestled with stunning views of Anse Caritan and beyond, this eatery is renowned for its mouthwatering burgers, particularly the Black Angus steak burger paired with artisanal bread and Emmental cheese—a true culinary delight. The ambiance is relaxed and inviting, featuring hammocks where you can unwind after your meal or beach beds perfect for soaking in the sunset.
Our favourite spot in st Anne, the service great and the menu is a nice mix of simple very well executed food. The price is reasonable and the views and sea breeze are lovely.
Marc W — Google review
What a wonderful place. From the decor to the food everything is wonderful.
Claudio C — Google review
My wife and I had dinner at Pirates Beach last night. It was awesome, and we are going back tonight. The restaurant overlooks Anse Caritan, with views to St Luce and beyond. One of the best restaurant views in the Caribbean, IMHO. My wife had the steak and I had the Barbe Noire fishburger. The fish was a huge hunk of tuna, seared to perfection and topped with a wonderful sauce. Per the minority opinion expressed in the unfavorable reviews below, you must understand that "seared to perfection" to me and to the hosts means seared, with a cool red center. We hope the owners are very successful. They were quite nice to us and tolerated our Frenglish cheerfully. The restaurant is easily accessibly by wheelchair via the smooth, paved concrete driveway to the front door. The driver can park a few meters away and navigate the rougher road.
Dan C — Google review
This establishment does not serve quality food. Hamburgers tasted like fast food. Tapenade was overly salted. Hamburgers not prepared as requested and we’re inedible. Staff doesn’t seem to care about the diners experience. Worst dining experience in Martinique to date. Our stomachs have not been the same since.
Colleen A — Google review
Do you like the traditional fast food chains? Go there instead because this place will certainly disapoint you. Booked a table in advance, and arrived to an almost empty restaurant. Ordered drinks and food - two beef burgers abd two tuna burgers. Drinks arrived. After almost 50 minutes of wait, still no food... Other tables, arrived well after us received their main courses... Reaching out to the staff and pointing out this fact, but receive the answer "Normal waiting time in Martinique". Finally, after one hour of waiting time for four burgers, they arrive. None of the burgers were hot. The tuna was still frozen in the middle. French fries cold and soggy. Showing this to the staff, they disappeared with the plates only to come back less than a minuten later. Still the same result... The staff mumbles and stating that they have put the plate in the salamander, as if that would help cook the beef patty and make the tuna perfect...? No, the only thing that did, was to make the plate hot and the top of the bun smoke... Totally the worst food experience ever. Avoid this place at all cost. Upon trying to explain that we expect hot food when ordering burgers with fries and having the staff check the temperature of the meat and fish they admit failing and closed the bill on the house. We left hungry but happy not to support a restaurant that even if they admitted serving cold burgers, did not even care of getting it right.
Carl D — Google review
Delicious food for reasonable price, perfect location - you can chill in the hammocks after finishing your meal or chill on the beach beds while watching sunset. You can jump in the water, take shower and get back to your meal. :) The beach is ok, nothing special but good enough to cool down.
Martin H — Google review
I really liked this restaurant. A friendly staff and good food. I had business to do in the bay twice during the course of my visit and both times ate here because it was so convenient. I would go back. it's not unique enough that I would search it out, but it is a great find if you are in the area.

Great and autehntic local food with a great price/value Ratio. We found the Restaurant Walking by late May, off-season. Le Panier a Salade is a beachside restaurant in Sainte-Anne, offering great value for fresh and quality food. Despite some wait time for service, the meals are promptly served and delicious, often fresh from the grill. Guests may enjoy complimentary pre-meal rum and affordable prices. While there may be flies around, it's not a major issue for most diners. The restaurant also offers menu options including chicken or langousta with drinks and dessert at reasonable prices.
We had some lunch here after the beach. Friendly people ,good acras and and chicken. Don't expect some amazing decoration on the plates or in the restaurant, they are just make some good traditional food in a taverna behind the beach and it is good enough!

Also not sure of the overall low rating on Google (2.8 when I submitted mine). Service was friendly, quick, and reasonably priced. We ordered accras, fries, a sausage sandwich in a baguette and two sodas for 26 euros.

Chicken boucané was dry, not that tasty, French fries excessively fried and oily, overall disappointed. Must say the waitress was adorable and very nice.

I think it was fine. You can have menu for 16 (chicken leg) or 20 (langousta) euros. Comes with drink and desert. Portions are medium.

I'm giving this place two stars because I ordered the Menu and was never served the cocktail and the dessert was not available. In addition some fritters came with sauce and some didn't, on a dirty plate. The piece of chicken tasted fine. The sides left more to be desired. Lastly my friend got a vegetarian plate that was just three piles that consisted of shredded cabbage, carrots and cucumber. Odd it was advertised this way.
Care D — Google review
What a mistake to go there without checking ratings before.. Guests are teased by a lady around the restaurant. Accras de Morue completely without taste. As a main course we had red snapper which has obviously drained in oil. The cocktail included in the menu was served in a paper cup. Definitely NOT recommended.

For very very patient and relaxed people only. We ordered 3x pork ribs with salad. Drinking beers by table so far. After more than 1 hour we finally received 3x ribs. With french fries and in the plastic box to take away. No more comments.

They lure you in with a free cocktail. It's not worth it. The service is awful. You wait for an hour before you get your starter. They are not organised at all, coming back to the table to check what you've ordered. The main dish is huge, but not particularly tasty.

Le New Touloulou is a renovated establishment that offers a taste of typical Martinican and international cuisine. With over 40 years of experience, the restaurant provides a professional dining experience, although prices may be slightly high. The Sunday buffet, recommended by the waiter Eric, offers an extensive selection of dishes including appetizers, main courses, grilled items, and desserts along with rum drinks and wine.
Beautiful location. We had coffee and lunch. Excellent thon fillet and acras. Waiter Eric is a good man , smiling and asking about the food We will come back again.

Good service, good food, well presented. Good price for the location near the Club Med Beach. Try the menu of the day.

Mediocre food that’s still not cheap, waitress was alright but not really friendly. The whole place was basically in chaos when we were eating lunch here, I noticed a few other people complaining to one of the other waitresses. It was just overwhelmed by all of the visitors and they clearly couldn’t handle it. Multiple things on the menu weren’t available. Looks of the plays aren’t nice, not hideous either. Wouldn’t recommend anyone to go here, I could cook myself a nicer lunch at home for a lot less money (and I’m not even a good cook).

Appalling towards any English speaking people "please avoid " Disgusting bathroom facilities with no toilet paper filthy stay away
Mark E — Google review
Our waiter, Eric, suggested the Sunday buffet at 40 Euro/person. He took us to the buffet stations and described the food. There was a first course station containing 20 or more choices, the main course station containing meats, fish, poultry and about 10 side dishes. There was the grill station, for grilled meat , poultry and fish and a dessert station. Rum drinks and wine are includedin the cost of the buffet. Thank you, Eric, for recommending the buffet. It was excellent, we were not disappointed. Everything my husband and I tried was delicious. We each had 3 glasses of wine, in adfition, my husband tried 2 local dark rums. This was worrh more than 40 Euro/person. We will return to The New Touloulou to try more of the items offered at the buffet.

The most unfriendly place ever, and paranoid about security, to the extent the staff behaves like police and not like hospitality or restaurateurs. If you want a nice holiday, run away, cause you won’t see a smile there, but rather get a prisoner treatment.
