Le Diamant in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Le Diamant, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Le Diamant is best known for its long, wild beach facing the striking offshore Diamond Rock, a historic landmark once used as a British naval stronghold. The town offers a relaxed seaside atmosphere with swimming, surfing and snorkeling opportunities along its Atlantic coast. Nearby viewpoints, such as Morne Larcher, provide sweeping panoramas of the bay and surrounding hills. Visitors can also explore local history at the Cap 110 memorial and enjoy Creole cuisine in small beachfront restaurants.
With favorites like La Voile Blanche, Le Jardin du Diamant, and XO Bistro, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like XO Bistro and LITTLE ROCK so you can get the best taste of Le Diamant while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

History Museums
La Savane des Esclaves is a historical museum located in Les Trois-Ilets, Martinique. The site features a re-created 'free' village of former enslaved people from around 1800. Gilbert Larose, the creator, has a deep fascination with his ancestors who were 'Neg'Marrons,' enslaved individuals who escaped plantations to live freely off the land.
We loved our visit though it was intense. The site is so beautiful and it does truth telling of the ugly colonial past. The message of the founder is one of reconciliation. As a visitor to Martinique it really helped me connect with the deeper layers of its history.
Samantha S — Google review
We left the exhibition a bit underwhelmed. While we can appreciate the work that was put in, the visit was a bit disappointing, and lacked sufficient details. The gardens were lovely though, but very steep and didn't offer much shade. We also noticed that they were no benches to sit on. Overall, we feel like the price may be too high for what you actually get. (12 euros/ person)
William F — Google review
Though staying much further north, we visited this museum on the recommendation of our hotelier. It was a moving and very informative visit, and I was surprised the tranquility in the gardens. The introductory video is a must. Presented by the founder of the museum, it provides a clear explanation of the history of the people and immigrants who came to Martinique, the history of slavery and life after slavery. In fact, it is a foundation for everything that follows. Everything is presented in French and English, including very clear subtitles on the video. Give yourself at least 90 minutes to visit here. Walk around the site brings the video to life, and the gardens themselves are beautiful. Very welcoming staff. Don't miss this experience!! Thank you.
Caroline W — Google review
Amazing museum to visit, with great history lessons. Friendly and professional staffs, the owner is outgoing, friendly and professional.
Tania C — Google review
A must have for those who want to know the history of Martinique. We spent here 2,5 hours. I recommend you start with a video which is shown every 15-20 min. It will give you a good overview as well as the context. It was much easier to later explore the expositions, knowing what part of history it was related to. Definitely read all those billboards. They have fascinating facts, really interesting. Be aware, that there's no internet connection. Their WiFi is not working, as well as there's no cellular data. Both of my SIM cards (local and a foreign one) had no connection. So if you come with someone else, agree on the meeting point. PS: All info is available in both French and English languages. Video is in French, but has English subtitles.
Inna G — Google review
We totally recommend this place. La Savane des Esclaves is very beautiful and well maintained place. It combines slavery museum with tropical garden and village of Carib Indians and houses used after abolition of slavery. You will gain a lot of information and you will be amazed by beautiful nature. Don't forget to get a drink from fresh fruits. Check the opening hours and enjoy the beautiful road here as well.
Martina J — Google review
Nice place to visit and know about Martinique first inhabitants and slaves. I think the introduction video could be a bit shorter and more interactive. Otherwise, great place, nice flora, the ice creams are good.

Really good, nice place of Martinique history. There is a video in the beginning about Martinique, plantage etc…alot of exhibitions- the housing, gardens, medical garden etc. We had a chance to see one traditional performance, dance in the place aswell.

Marché du Diamant, located near the church in Central Le Diamant, is a bustling local produce and craft market open from Monday to Saturday, 6 am to 1 pm. The covered market is the hub of the town's commerce, offering an array of fresh fruits, vegetables, spices, and locally made crafts. It's a great place to immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture and pick up some authentic souvenirs.

(Translated by Google) The Diamant market is worth the detour, especially to meet Chichina, an adorable saleswoman full of good advice, whether for fruits and vegetables, punch and even jams. She was able to guide us with a smile throughout our stay, a real gem! On the other hand, it’s a shame that the welcome from the rest of the sellers, whether for fruits, vegetables or clothes, is much less warm. The general atmosphere of the market would benefit from being more friendly.

4.6
(2013)
Historical landmark
Mémorial Cap 110 – Mémorial de l’Anse Cafard is a haunting and beautiful modern sculpture installation by Laurent Valere, serving as a memorial to the local victims of the slave trade. The grassy headland overlooking the sea features 15 formless stone figures reminiscent of Easter Island statues, with heads hung in mourning.
This is a neat place to stop and checkout. Parking was easy, and the views are gorgeous. Interesting part of Martinique’s history.

Free to enter Somber memorial to a wrecked slave ship. Beautiful view over the bay and provoking sculpture well worth a visit if driving past. Bilingual explanations make it an easy to understand experience
Graeme R — Google review
A very moving memorial commemorating the death of dozens of slaves off the coast. The bodies were buried on those very same grounds where the sculptures are laid.
Simon G — Google review
Easy to park, beautiful view on memorial and Diamant's rock at the same time. Cool beach bar a mile before (Chill), few lovely beaches and few shops/roots bars on the way.

This is a must-visit. I've had the pleasure of visiting this location multiple times with the artist Laurent Valère. With the help of Martinique Tourism and Toni Morrison Society. The slaves that were killed below the cliff, when their captives ship crashed. Are buried here. There is little parking but this is a free experience.

Bistro atmosphere, yes, but the chef out back is a genius... The staff are wonderful, but the food is exceptional. My only issue with the atmosphere is the bizarre and unexplainable fascination that the French have with cigarettes. Such amazing food and wine, but they smoke right through dinner. They should just go to McDonald's and let the rest of us enjoy a good meal...

The food was very bad. I found pieces of paper between my fries. The fries tasted like they were sitting in the deep fryer for hours, completely soggy and brown. The pokebowl didn't have any taste. There was just some soysauce that came with it. I would never go there again.

(Translated by Google) Magical place but inevitably quite noisy because it's on the beach where the waves break. Very good dishes, nothing to complain about on that side (starter: scallops: sublime sauce and main course: fresh fish tartare: excellent!). On the other hand, prices are a little high in my opinion (we pay for the place!). We have a gourmet coffee for dessert: we are told that the long coffee will be extra for the normal coffee! I have never seen that (even in Paris...). Otherwise, the service was very good.

The menu features delectable items such as risotto with onions pickled in orange juice-syrup and mouth-watering burgers. Visitors also appreciate the stunning views from the restaurant.
Charming place right on the water. Service was great. This was my first time having plantains paired with aioli. Delicious combination. And I tried chorizo-crusted manta ray wing for the first time. It’s a nice, smooth white fish that slides right off the spines.

Was honestly not expecting this place to be this good. When you first go check out this restaurant you’d think that it would just be some small establishment by the street. That’s not at all the case as you walk in you’ll continue down until you reach an open terrace that is overlooking the beach. The food was fantastic, probably the best Gnocchi I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend this restaurant, a true hidden gem in Diamant.

Nestled just steps away from the picturesque Canal de l'Ourcq, Chez Ernest stands out as a vibrant hub that seamlessly blends dining, culture, and community support. This expansive bar and restaurant boasts an industrial-chic decor with wooden accents that create a warm atmosphere. What makes Chez Ernest truly special is its commitment to social responsibility; all profits are directed towards food aid programs, including meal distribution for those in need within the neighborhood.
Probably the best restaurant in Martinique. The most charismatic owner (Ernest and I) the most beautiful location, always cool because of the ocean and honest food. My wife had the crab cake which she said had more crab in them than she had ever had before, I had the grilled red Snapper. The complementary shots of rum after the meal is Caribbean history much forgotten elsewhere. Have two shots!
