Port Fairy Lighthouse on Griffiths Island is a historical landmark located at the meeting point of Moyne River and the ocean. The island offers easy one-hour walks, swimming spots, and picturesque landscapes for photography. It also houses a small lighthouse and a protected mutton-bird colony that visits from October to April. Built in 1859, the lighthouse stands 13 meters above sea level and does not allow public access inside.
Beautiful for a wander! On the day we went it was fairly quiet. Quiet and lovely for a wander. I took the shorter easy to walk path. Such a beautiful place. Across from the lighthouse walk is a great park and public toilets. It’s a really well set up area.
Melissa — Google review
Beautiful walk around the island, it takes about 1hr 45 min., very easy to do. You will admire volcanic rocks, white sand that blends with the yellow sand, crystal clear shallow water and powerful ocean waves.
Federica T — Google review
A beautiful walking loop takes you along the beach and leads to the lighthouse. It’s a great spot to take a break. Like all lighthouses, this one is also stunning.
Nurcihan K — Google review
A beautiful flat walk on a wide path will lead you to the lighthouse on Griffiths Island. Absolutely beautiful. I am so pleased we went in this walk. I was surprised by the beautiful scenery and waterholes that we came across. The lighthouse is very photogenic and the area has so much history. Absolutely stunning and well worth a visit! If you are going to continue your way around the island it is important to note that this is not flat. It requires scrambling over rocks and sand dunes while praying you don’t slip! Lots of fun but certainly not for those with mobility issues.
Sandi G — Google review
There are two main paths to the Griffith Island Lighthouse: The left path is the shorter and flatter route. The right path is the scenic route that takes you along the beach. This path requires navigating some boulders, but is otherwise a straightforward and easy walk.
Ziard — Google review
One of the best places to visit around here, peaceful and beautiful. Highly recommend.
Jose R — Google review
Was great but I wish they let you know that you can’t get to it when tide is in unless you take the shorter walkway.
Yvonne R — Google review
Port Fairy Lighthouse is a lovely spot to visit. The walk out to the lighthouse is peaceful with beautiful ocean views all around. It’s a great place to take photos, enjoy the sea breeze, and soak up the history. Well worth the stop if you’re in Port Fairy.

Restaurant
Located on the main fisherman's wharf, The Wharf @ Port Fairy is more than just a typical fish and chip shop. With a focus on sourcing the best local produce, Chef Shaun allows natural flavors to shine in their dishes. While they offer takeaway fish and chips on weekends, it's worth visiting for dinner to try their seafood platter. The restaurant provides both indoor and outdoor dining options, making it suitable for any weather.
Amazing views and the chips are so value for money for the price. The fish are well battered and not fishy at all making it easier to eat. Loved the potato cake that was so crunchy. Outside there is live crayfish that is freshly caught on the day and cooked on the spot - definitely recommend trying!
Vanessa W — Google review
Nice view over the river, friendly staff, comfortable setting. Food was presented well, the steak was great, my squid was over cooked, a crisp Chardonnay worked well with the other fish dishes ordered. Lots of seafood options on menu. Bookings essential but they managed to squeeze us in.
Kristen M — Google review
We were here this afternoon and the experience was very positive. We ordered food for 8 adults and 7 kids. The meals were very yummy, staff fast, professional and very kindy despite our kids were a bit notty. Catch of the day (salmon) with smash potato and fresh greek salad. Beverages were tasty as well. Price a bit expensive (usually the price for 2 kids and 2 adults is around 70-80$ and today we paid 100$. I recommend this place
Alberto M — Google review
We came here few time and always ordered the same thing. Seafood platter for 2. For $154 the platter is generously sized with their big prawns, mussels, calamari, scallops, salmon. The best part were the prawns and mussels. Tasty and juicy for the prawns and delicious slightly spicy tomato sauce for the mussels. The calamari and salmon were perfectly cooked. We had the sticky date pudding for dessert and it was delicious. Staff are friendly and professional as always. Well done guys for surviving Covid ( we came just after Covid but with staff issues only your fish and chips corner was open). You are doing so well. Keep the smile !
Clarisse C — Google review
Great food, great service, friendly staff, great atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed this place. But I do have a question, why do you have Bamboo knives and forks? My husband was having a bit of trouble trying to cut through his steak roll with a Bamboo Knife. And I don't know how many forks he broke. So maybe you need to put a Steak Knife and Fork for those who have the Steak Roll. But we did enjoy our night over there in that beautiful town of Port Fairy. We will be back, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Glenda M — Google review
Price are on the high side and the food is a little disappointed as the pasta is over cooked as it's too soggy. The relaxed ambience of the restaurant is popular and you're able to view the boat docked alongside.
Pi E — Google review
We went there for dinner and they said do you have a booking no we don't they put us outside in the cold inside many tables were empty only a few people they said they are booked but they closed 8 pm on a Monday the food was great tasting price is pretty expensive and the elderly lady was pretty Rude to us even we showed our vaccine status she told me to put my mask on. No way I would just walking to the toilet what a joke she is the rest of the staff are very freindly .fish chips was delicious and the catch of the day And my wife she doesn't need show her bloody license to that elderly staff non of her business what Rude person

We had a lovely, pleasant dinner here, great service, friendly staff. Beautiful views on the water. The mussles cooked in sauce were to die for, left us wanting more although generous serving, so delicious and the good ole fish n chips were yummy, the fish was soft, flakey and fresh. Nice atmosphere too.

Absolutely wonderful meal and service! We also stayed the night at the Merrijig Inn which was fantastic. Beautiful, generous, and full of warmth and character. I can’t wait to come back!!!

To breakfast here again would be reason enough for another visit, though the cosy room with comfy bed and dormer window was its own recommendation. The absence of a TV was welcome (we watched the football on the screen at The Stump).
Otto B — Google review
We couldn’t have enjoyed our meal more at the Merrijig. The T- bone was seasoned and prepared perfectly and the duck fat potatoes were the perfect accompaniment. From amuse bouche to the focaccia and wine selection, our meal was outstanding.
Judith D — Google review
We could see the passion from the chef. The price was high for the amount of food we were served. The staff could have been more attentive, drinks were charged but not received. Water not topped up without asking. I also noticed that serving staff had an extremely soiled bandaid on her thumb that was in very close proximity to my food.
Bernadette S — Google review
We had a wonderful time staying overnight at Merrijig Inn. The food was excellent in the restaurant and all the staff couldn't do enough to accommodate us, we would thoroughly recommend staying at this querky, homely property . A fabulous experience !

Pizza Takeout
Coffin Sally, located at 33 Sackville St in Port Fairy, is a popular spot known for its wood fire pizza and cocktails. The pizzeria has garnered praise from both locals and tourists for its genuine knockout pizza, with the mushroom pizza being a standout dish. The establishment's happening ambiance and friendly crowd make it a favorite Friday night destination for many in Port Fairy.
What a VIBE! Coffin Sally ticked all the boxes for a full sensory dining experience. The open fire, the decor, the music, drinks, food and the staff! Well done team. So many cosy nooks, from the front bar, to the courtyard and the extra dining room that lead on from it were all very welcoming. Great drinks list, couldn’t resist getting the spicy Marg. The roast Veg pizza made without cheese was ridiculously good, and dare I say the gluten free pizza base was just as good or even better than the gluten one?! Excellent job at selecting quality ingredients and options for all. Can’t wait to stop in again on our next trip to Port Fairy.
Lana B — Google review
Located inside a 19th Century former undertaker’s building, Coffin Sally is a local hot spot for quality pizzas, local craft beers and wines. The delicious thin crust pizzas are lovingly made using the finest quality ingredients. We shared 4 pizzas and were very impressed! The atmosphere is upbeat, friendly and the staff are super welcoming and knowledgeable. The earthy design features lots of timber, stone and an eclectic mix of decor including skulls! A not to miss experience if you’re in Port Fairy!

The best pizza I've had and I have had a lot of pizza. I don't say it lightly. Each pizza had a distinct flavor. We had the Mexicana, Mushroom, and Capricciosa. Staff is very nice and accommodating. The decorations are very unique and give off a vibe of their own.

We cant recommend this place enough. If you want take away Pizza grab a drink in the groovey bar hidden behind the Pizza shop while you wait. If you want a few drinks, chill in a rad bar with awesome staff then order a delicious pizza. I'm fructose intolerant and they accommodated perfectly. The garlic prawn pizza can come with no garlic and no tomato sauce. I added ham and white anchovies 🤤. Bloody amazing. Mrs had the FIOR DI SALLY. Delicious. Great bases and fresh toppings. Definitely be back for more. Thank you everyone

Recommend: Mushroom pizza, fijian pizza, chicama chocolate stout Food was incredible!!!! and ambience was very hip, but the table was quite sticky.

Unassuming eatery serving delicious pizza. It’s not your typical pizza spot – there’s a cool, creative vibe that adds to the experience Definitely worth visiting if you’re in Port Fairy
HarmaTime — Google review
The pizzas were very..very..delicious, although the prawn pizza didn't have many prawns on it... The base and pizza sauces were spot on. The menu would benefit from having some thick cut potatoes with rosemary and rock salt. The staff could have also been a little more welcoming and warm. The decor is really cool throughout.

The Caledonian Inn, one of Melbourne's oldest and most renowned pubs, is a must-visit for food enthusiasts. It is famous for its enormous steaks, with a challenge that only one customer has ever conquered. The inn boasts friendly staff, a welcoming atmosphere, and efficient service, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. Additionally, the comfortable rooms provide a pleasant stay with recent renovations and adequate heating.
We came here a few years ago and today it looked like it was recently fitted which made it look nice. The outside beer garden was really nice to relax in. The meals were all very good and we would definitely come back again! Probably the best pub in port fairy!

The Caledonian Inn and "The Stump" Pub are quintessential English style. Great atmosphere in both the Pub and the Restaurant. Log fires going (mid October 2025). Great selection of Beers on tap including local brews. The Pub and Restaurant were quite full, we chatted to a few travellers and locals. Claims to be the "Oldest Licenced Hotel in Victoria", established 1844. We stayed for a few beers. Yes, well recommended. Thank you.
Allen P — Google review
Locals call it The Stump. A very clean and tidy comfortable room overnight at a competitive rate with off street parking Helpful friendly staff with good meals. A stroll from great coffee and breakfast. The cool boutiques in main steet open at 10. Beautiful town
Russell G — Google review
Check-in via the pub is odd especially when it's busy. Fortunately we were there on a Sunday so closing time for the bar was 10pm. Had it been a saturday I can imagine the area would be noisy. Being in the room right next to the garden was fine for us but it could get noisy. Room was ok for one night.
Pinal ( — Google review
We paid but left. No microwave. People sitting drinking on the stool outside our room. Swearing. Loud. Broken privacy blind. Not a safe friendly environment for families. No door latch to keep door securely shut. At first impression it was bad enough to say I will never return to port fairy. I love water environments but this has turned me away from port fairy. Will be telling all my friends of our experience. Went to a more family friendly room at extra cost but it was well worth it.

Enjoyed my meal of pan fried sea bream. The service was great and the atmosphere was awesome. Staff very helpful on choosing the local beers. Walking distance from Southcombe Caravan Park

The Red Hen in Port Fairy offers a delectable range of dishes, including freshly made salads, whole chickens, burgers, fish and chips, schnitzel, and roast packs. The menu provides excellent value for money and the meals are packed with flavor. For takeout, one can order the Schnitzel Creamy Pack which consists of a generous serving of schnitzel accompanied by roast pumpkin, peas, corn, scallop potatoes, and gravy.
Great Portions Size! Definitely will fill you right up! We came and get some takeaway but there are 2 tables and chairs just outside which is convenient! Definitely recommended this spot if you are looking for something to fill you up right!

Ordered a fish burger over the phone. Walked in at 6.15 on a Friday night and it was empty and bit into my burger and disappointed hit when it was crappy frozen fish with no flavor. So disappointing places like these don't use the local produce. On a plus side salad was amazing and generous
Ekt1993 — Google review
The portion is very hefty, you can share a quarter chicken + chips + salad between 2 people! The chicken is juicy but a bit salty (for our taste), and the chips portion is so big that at some point we confuse where the chicken ends and the chips begin!
Ha-Linh Q — Google review
We had lunch here. Well priced and well proportioned. Great value for money. Friendly staff. Food was tasty and fresh. 9/10 We came back 8 mths later. Still awesome. Keep up the good work guys!!

What great value and great tasting meal this was. To take away, I ordered a Schnitzel Creamy Pack, which comprised of a large Schnitzel, roast pumpkin, peas, corn, scallop potatoes and gravy. The meal was large enough for two people. The Red Hen at 41 Sackville St, Port Fairy is right in the heart of town. The staff were quick, friendly and attentive. I placed my order, and the meal was ready in no time. If you want a flavourful meal I could recommend a trip to these guys and gals.

Best fish and chip takeaway in Port Fairy. Really good value, fresh produce, very well cooked, fish was delicious and potato cakes were next level. Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Their salads looked amazing. We will be back!

Thai restaurant
Lemongrass Thai in Port Fairy is a popular dining spot known for its consistently excellent Thai cuisine and great service. The restaurant offers a varied menu with options like beef massaman curry, yellow curry with chicken, seafood combination fried rice, and honey duck. The staff is welcoming and efficient, making diners feel at home. It's advisable to book ahead during peak seasons due to its popularity. Additionally, the restaurant also offers takeaway options for those looking to enjoy their delicious food at home.
Very friendly staff who remember a face. Delicious food. Been dining here for many years, highly recommend.
Scarlett — Google review
Massaman beef was horrible, couldn’t eat a single bite. The beef was rock hard, dry and inedible. Roti was crispy and snapped like overcooked pastry. Thai fried rice was ok as was the chicken pad thai. Service was terrible, asked for water, got a bottle with no glasses until we got someones attention and asked. No serving utensils for any dish, empty drink bottles piled up, no one took them away even after they struggled to fit the food onto the table. Would only recommend if nothing else is open.
Karrie D — Google review
Dined in the restaurant 18 months ago and it was one of the best Thai meals we'd had. Returned looking forward to another great meal but they were doing takeaway only even though there was only one couple dining in the whole place. Food was a disappointment this time being very light on ingredients, swimming in sauce. Curry was tasty but more like laksa! The sweet and sour was similarly light on and lacked flavour. Unfortunately, we won't be returning despite friendly and helpful service.
Anna W — Google review
Probably one of the best Thai meals I have had - and a wonderful unexpected treat in beautiful Port Fairy. We found Lemongrass in Bank Street during a walk around the town, and the locals confirmed that it was a great choice. Booking for dinner was important, as the place quickly filled up and there was a constant stream of takeaway orders. The food was excellent and very reasonable in price, and I would recommend the Massuman Curry - great flavour and very tender beef. Staff were lovely and service quick and efficient.
Kim E — Google review
Great little restaurant in Pt Fairy. Excellent service from start to finish. The two front of house girls were efficient and very pleasant and everyone seemed to be enjoying the meals. I had the beef massaman curry and it was delicious. In peak season I would recommend booking as it is very popular. It was full when we were there off peak on a cold and windy night. Great value too.
Disey — Google review
Very happy that we’ve walked far enough on Bank Street and found this restaurant. We were only in town for a night and hadn’t booked anything for dinner. They took us in although the place was packed. We’ve got a table for two right away and were set for our orders in no time. The roasted duck red curry and the Barramundi fish were absolutely delicious, we loved every bite. Highly recommend to come here. Lovely staff and great food for very reasonable prices. Thank you!
Daniel R — Google review
Great value for money. Duck red curry was very tasty. Service was very good. Limited wine selection. Would definitely go back.

We had heard Lemongrass was the best Thai in Port Fairy and overall we were happy with the food. However, we did wait over an hour for the entree to arrive. In fairness, the menu DOES say that there’ll be a wait but, it WAS a long time. The chicken spring rolls were great and I highly recommend them. The chicken green curry was great but, the chicken was a little dry. I still enjoyed the meal overall. I liked the coconut rice which had more flavour than most. The fried fish with 3 sauces was very crispy, and I loved the apple strips with it.

Cafe
Charlies On East is a charming beachfront cafe in Port Fairy, offering homestyle cakes, scones, and hearty cafe staples. The venue provides some of the best coastal views in the area and is dog-friendly, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery with their furry friends. Guests can indulge in delicious food and great coffee while admiring the beautiful surroundings from the covered balcony. Some patrons suggest adding shade umbrellas for outdoor seating.
Amazing restaurant with a beautiful view. All the food was amazing and very well sized! We got salt and pepper squid and a Charlie's burger. The burger was massive! I had to eat it with a knife and fork, as it was too big to hold and eat. Really good selection of food with a kids menu with things that were mainly $10 each. Also very well sized. We got sausages and chips for our little one. Very spacious in the restaurant as well and plenty of room for a pram or two. They also have outdoor seating looking over the beach. Amazing place and extremely friendly and polite staff. Highly recommend. One thing to note for Iced Coffee lovers, I got an iced latte, and it didnt come with cream or icecream, it's just like a cold coffee.

Delicious breakfast. Best creamy porridge ever. Surfbraker fantastic. Both meals were very very filling. Such lovely friendly staff nothing to much trouble. Great views, Good prices. We will be back.

Initially, I went in to see if they still sold their famous hot chips, which I loved when living in the area over a year ago. I was told they no longer have those, so I ended up leaving without eating anything other than ice cream from the front area. However, the staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was as it has always been and of course the view is amazing. Highly recommend this place. Two days later, I actually went back for lunch with a friend. The food was really tasty with lots of choice and reasonable pricing. Just watch out not to sit in front of the sliding door when it's windy or cold as staff use it a lot and the cold blowing in does spoil the dining experience.

We arrived 5mins after the kitchen closed at 2:05pm. The staff obliged to cook our order. The Seafood Chowder was so hearty and delicious and the Garlic Prawns was delicious too. Friendly staff, great food and great views/ambience. Highly recommended 👍

Went in with my family because the food looked nice. We had just missed the breakfast menu. They where still offering eggs on toast on the kids menu and on other items. I asked if I could get just eggs on toast because it was being offered on other items but not by themselves and i was willing to pay extra. I was flatly told no. When I enquired why I was told because the chef said so. I future said that it's being offered on other menu items and it was not like they had to clean a grill or change anything to accommodate me. Was told no again with zero reason. We ended up just leaving. Its like business dont want to take your money these days... the lady who sat us at our table was absolutely lovely and accommodated us very very well.
