Nature & Parks
Ferris Provincial Park, located near Campbellford and just a short drive from Toronto, is a hidden treasure in Northumberland County. The park offers a variety of camping options, including secluded sites deep in the forest and along the park's edges. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque scenery, pedestrian suspension bridge, and well-maintained hiking trails that stretch over 10 kilometers along the river and through the woods.
What a beautiful park in a stunning location. We only stopped here for a few hours but already can't wait to go back for a weekend of camping. The gatehouse staff were super friendly and helpful. The trails are beautiful and well marked. The suspension bring was a real treat with fantastic views of the river. They also have canoe rentals. It's truly a beautiful place to explore.

It is a great campground to spend some time with family and friends in nature. The spot we had #37 had more dirt than grass. The photo on the site showed more grass and might need to be updated to be true . We were able to have a fire, which was nice. The washrooms were clean and well maintained. The reservations are done online, and check-in was easy. They sell firewood on site for $8.

Very nice, clean, friendly park. Ample spacing between sites, so no over crowding. Close to several small towns, lots of sites to see and shopping to do. Several restaurants close by for dine in or takeout. Also, pet friendly, and they have a beautiful dog park in the park!

Our family has been to this park several times over the last 20 years. We just love coming here. SITES: we have found the sites in the lower area vary greatly. There are some huge open sites and some that are more secluded. However, all of them have good separation from your neighbors. The upper campground, valley view I believe it is called, gives spectacular views of the area below. If you can get in when the leaves are changing, I highly recommend space 38 or 39 for the best views of the valley and the changing leaves. However, all of the sites are beautiful in the fall. As you move around the campground, you'll notice remnants of walls from the early settlers of the area. They've done a great job to restore some of these walls and documented in their signs. WALKING TRAILS: there are great trails whether you like to walk along the river's edge or explore the forest nearby, there are several trails to choose from. Many of the trails are not bike friendly but, you can easily get to all of the main locations by bicycle. You can also bicycle into town which is right beside the park and has several of its own beautiful bike paths along the trend Severn waterway. SUSPENSION BRIDGE: The suspension bridge gives you a magnificent view of the river below and the area around it. It also provides a convenient path to go into town by bicycle or walking. Don't forget to look down through the floor of the bridge and you may be lucky enough to see turtles enjoying the sunshine on the rocks below. CANOE OR KAYAK: The park has kayaks to rent or bring your own to enjoy the calm river areas. Of course, stay away from the boat locks just to be safe. FACILITIES: there are three comfort stations; two in the lower campground and one in the upper campground. While they are dated, they serve their purpose. There are only two shower stalls and they are located in the upper campground comfort station. There is also a bike path to get from the upper campground to the lower one and it is a fun ride! PLAYGROUND: there is a playground with new equipment located near the water in the boat launch. My kids were too old to use it but it looks like it is in great shape. BOAT LAUNCH: there is a boat launch area which is downstream from the boat locks. When we were there during the week, this area was not busy at all. DOGS: They have recently added an off-leash area for your four-legged friends. It is near a parking lot so you can easily drive there. AREA: campbellford, town beside the park, is a beautiful town in itself. There is a quaint downtown area with many small shops. There is an outlet for the world's finest chocolate factory (a favorite stop of ours :) there are bike paths along the Trent Severn waterway. There's also a Tim Hortons, Canadian Tire and a no frills for convenience. Don't forget to visit the giant toonie in the park just south of the bridge over the waterway. TRAILER AND RVs: The water fill station and dump station are near the entrance. There is only one fill station and one dump station and they are behind each other so you may have to wait to get to your desired station. We left about 11:00 a.m. and there was nobody in front of us in line so you probably won't have to wait long. Overall, it is a beautiful park and a beautiful area. I know our family will definitely go back!

Very old camp ground There are accessible campsites. Washroom are not accessible at Bedrock campgeound nor have shower. Only 1 shower for the enitre camp ground The camp grounds trails are very pretty access to the bridge and the falls. See attached pictures. The washroom and campgrounds are very clean. Its a beautiful place full of nature. The staff at the front office are extreamly nice.
Dini W — Google review
Clean sites and mostly spacious. There’s not much to do in the park itself besides some short hikes and the suspension bridge. The roads going into the sites are just soil and gravel so on hot dry days, it’s very dusty. There was a cloud of dust that I thought there was fog that covered the area. It could also be loud and there are no rangers checking in at night. No other shower besides the one in Valley View Campground. And when I say one, there’s literally one shower for men and one for women inside the comfort station itself. water is so dang hot that if they lower the temp, they could probably save money to build proper shower like other Provincial Parks. Staff at the office/store are friendly, though. They get 5 stars from me. As for the rest of the experience, definitely not coming back to this park to camp.
Rhoy P — Google review
Beautiful area. If you're looking to get out and enjoy a beautiful scenery, come here. The trails are well maintained and marked. The views are great. Worth it. Dog friendly, just keep your baby on a leash. Bathrooms weren't open as the park was technically closed still for the season.
Tara T — Google review
Spent a weekend camping at Farris and I enjoyed the experience. The camping is nice and quiet (at least it is in October) and the fall colours started to come through. Did all the hikes which are pretty nice. Short enough that most people can do them. The most scenic part of the park is the river by far. I would have liked to have my mountain bike to do the trail that is designed for mountain biking and hiking. If you're going to bike, know that the trails do have a little bit of rocks and roots to get over. Nothing crazy, but just something to consider if you're used to rail trail. The reason for four stars is because this park is great for camping for a weekend, but I'm not sure that I would go back. Once you see it, I think it's enough. With no swimming, it's not really a great place to keep going back to.

Historical landmark
Trent-Severn Waterway, Locks 11-12 - Ranney Falls Flight Lock is a must-visit gem in Campbellford, situated along the picturesque Trent River. The area offers a relaxing experience with its three levels and stunning views of the river from the Ranney Gorge Suspension bridge. Visitors can enjoy friendly and informative assistance from Parks Canada staff who are eager to explain the lock and waterway system.
Huge shoutout to the wonderful young women who were operating the locks on Aug 4th. We had our kids and their friend with us and we stopped to watch the locks open for a huge boat. The operators took the time to explain how the walls and the water worked to the kids - turned what started as a cool moment into an entire experience and made our kids’ day. Thank you!!
Heather S — Google review
We didn't get to see the locks work but the view was amazing. You can just relax in the grass area and read a book, sip on a cup of coffee and it's simply beautiful watching the river.

When you visit Campbellford, this is a must-visit place. you will have relaxing time there in three levels. The trent river is very beautiful down the Ranney Gorge Suspension bridge. The park canada workers are super friendly and helpful. They will explain you everything you are interested in knowing about the lock and waterway system. Two locks are located one next to the other. If you are lucky, you may see the operation of lowering or lifting the boat. Parking is free and you park very close to the locks.

Hiking area
The Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge in Campbellford is a thrilling attraction open year-round, offering visitors the chance to traverse its 91-meter span over the high-banked walls of Ranney Gorge. The bridge provides interpretive signage detailing its construction in 2003 and offers stunning views of the Trent River and Ranney Falls. While it can get busy, making social distancing a challenge, the experience of feeling the bridge sway and taking in the surrounding natural beauty makes it a must-do activity.
A beautiful suspension bridge with waterfall views. People who love outdoors and love to explore the hidden gems, this is definitely one I would recommend. It’s at the Ferris Provincial Park and has a nice walking trail and camping grounds. Lots of picnic tables and my dog loved his walk in these beautiful trails. Parking is limited. The place is not that crowded therefore, it is nice to have a quiet peaceful walk. The trails are easy and can be accessible for seniors.

Very nice place to start your hike. The view is really nice. There is limited free parking near the bridge, depending on time of day you probably can find a spot. Crossing to the other side is ferris provincial park, hiking trails, water fountain, and lots of nature.

The Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge was a peaceful and relaxing spot, not crowded at all, which made for a quiet and enjoyable walk. Walking across the bridge felt amazing—it offered beautiful views of the river and surrounding trees, perfect for photos. Best of all, it’s completely free to visit!
Raj — Google review
The bridge itself is great. I can say as a mother of a toddler I have no worry letting him walk in it alone because the bridge is enclosed and railings are height enough even for adults. I believe it was well maintain. Honestly, driving all the way there is so satisfying. The scenic view of ups and down road with vibrant colors of trees are food for the soul. I like to commend the local goverment of Campbellford for the making the road safe.I am suprise to see a lot of cautions about speed limit even in the pavement of the road. Amazing.Anyway, back to ranney gorge suspension bridge, there is dog area for pet lovers. And there is also lookout which you can see the full view of the bridge. There are also picnic tables.

Interesting and adventurous. A bit scary when looking down to the water but felt safe. Nice view and love that people are putting locks on it to profess their love.
Manuella P — Google review
The Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge is an absolute hidden gem in Ontario! 🌉 The views of the gorge and river are stunning, especially on a sunny day. The bridge feels safe and sturdy, but still gives you that little thrill when you’re crossing. Perfect spot for photos, a quick walk, or to take in nature. Parking is close by and there are trails if you want to explore more. Definitely worth the visit if you’re anywhere near Campbellford!
Rob P — Google review
