Nestled among towering trees near Kinomiya Station, Kinomiya Shrine is an ancient and picturesque shrine with a mystical atmosphere. Accessible through a tunnel track, the shrine is home to a revered 2,000-year-old camphor tree and enshrines Isotakeru-no-Mikoto, the deity of forestry. Visitors come to pray in front of this magnificent tree, seeking blessings for longevity and strength in facing life's obstacles.
Came on a Wednesday at 9am and while there were some people there it definitely wasn't crowded like we saw around 1 or 2 pm. It is such a lovely shrine with so many little pathways - there's a path of small tori gates (only like 8), then some stairs to view the river / stream. The shrine is said to bring good fortune and luck. It's well known for its 2000 year old camphor tree, if you walk around the tree it's said to add a year to your life span. We walked around that and the smaller tree for good measure. :)

A temple surrounded by nature. The main attraction are the 2 centuries-old trees. There are also two cafes with outdoor tables where you can enjoy nature while drinking a coffee.

A beautiful shrine with a very old and picturesque camphor tree - walking around it is said to extend your life by one year. There was also a nice cafe on the grounds to get a nice snack or beverage. We parked at a nearby pay lot. You can get parking validated if you buy items from the shrine shop.

Beautiful shrine and kind staff. We started our goshuinmeguri here because we loved the trees and the wooden goshuincho. Even on a very hot day, the shade and trees are cooling. As with other popular shrines, please go early in the day to avoid crowds.

A serene shrine that’s home to a 2000 years old camphor tree which legends says will add one year of age every round you walk around it. What I like is there are phone stands in front of several photo spots for selfies and even a platform that allows people to go up to take pictures with the ancient tree up close, and also a shop for lucky charms which have a lot of different designs.
JoyC — Google review
Huge temple complex with a few different buildings and 2 very old trees (1300 and 2000 years old). There a parking lot to the right of the temple.

What a wonderful, beautiful, traditional shrine. The treat options were great (ice cream and sweet potato chips were absolutely stood delicious), and the staff were all extremely pleasant women. Truly a life-affirming experience 💜
Kay E — Google review
Tranquil temple filled with lush greenery that provided a cool refuge from the summer heat. The sounds of the nearby waterfall added to the serene ambience of the temple. The highlight of the temple is the ancient camphor tree which is said to add a year to your lifespan each time you circle it. What I feel the temple done weel was the inclusion of phone stands that allow visitors to take pictures at photo spots such as the camphor tree. Surprisingly, there are quite a number of modern minimalist structures in the temple, such as the cafe right by the main shrine. The temple is free to enter and was not very crowded on a late weekday afternoon when I visited.

Keio Rail Land is a transportation museum and play area operated by the Japanese company Keio. It offers an inquisitive and fun environment celebrating public transportation, with attractions including a model railroad display, full-scale bus, and various kid-friendly activities. Visitors can experience operating a train in a large-scale simulator, play in a sports course designed like a railroad network, and ride a mini train around old-time train cars displayed outside.
Very fun and immersive experience for young children and their parents. Plenty of hands on opportunities with educational exhibits. If your child gets excited about trains and/or the railway system, this is a great place to visit. There are a few realistic simulators they can try and some cool photo opportunities as well. I would recommend purchasing tickets online ahead of time.
Mark T — Google review
While the place is a great visit for kids who love trains and purarail, it must be noted that strollers have to be parked outside - so bringing babies that need to be in a stroller won't be convenient. Also the tickets at the door are only for entry. Most activity inside requires additional payment and some of those are a limited number of entry tickets per day. Recommend to research the place in advance and plan accordingly.

Get ready for an unforgettable experience at this intriguing two-building museum! Step into the main building, where you'll find convenient ticket machines and a plethora of captivating exhibits. Explore hands-on interactives, jump into creativity at our reservation-only Lego play areas, and engage with fascinating static displays that will spark your imagination! Venture outside to the open-air section, where a world of wonder awaits! Discover more static displays and hop aboard our charming miniature train for a delightful ride. Best of all, you can freely roam between the buildings and the outdoor exhibits, making the exploration truly flexible and fun. When you arrive, you’ll find multilingual automated ticket machines at the entrance, accepting various payment methods for your convenience. Although there aren’t any vending machines inside, fear not! Just a stone's throw away is a handy 7/11 by the ticket gate for snacks and refreshments. Don’t forget to check out the patio dining on the second floor—just bring your own food and enjoy! Beverage vending is also available to keep you refreshed as you discover all the delightful offerings. Plus, the museum is wheelchair accessible, ensuring everyone can join in the adventure! Get ready to dive into a day of excitement and exploration!

It’s the best rail play land for train lover kids! There are trains display, train simulator, train models, play areas with ball pit and playing toy trains etc. It is located right next to HugHug play centre, a big indoor play land for children, and cross the road from Tama Zoological Park. You can easily spend a whole day here with your little ones.
HF C — Google review
Keio Rail-Land offers many attractions, including a large-scale ‘experience simulator’ where visitors can operate a train and learn, touch, and experience how railroads work. Children can also play in complete safety in a special sports course designed in the image of a railroad network. A very popular mini train runs along the perimeter of a fleet old-time train cars displayed outside.

Fun place for kids 2-5. Older kids need more “room” I think. Frankly speaking too small a building for a major public attraction. And for more “room” Tama Zoo is just across the street!:).
Robert — Google review
It’s perfect for kids. They can ride a mini train and also visit old Keio line cars. There is also a scale model of a City and they can drive different trains. Best thing is, it’s right in front of the Tama Zoo!

Kurokawaseiryu Park is a hidden gem nestled along the Tama River, perfect for those seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. This natural park features well-maintained trails that wind through lush forests, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in serene surroundings while listening to the soothing sounds of flowing water. Despite its proximity to urban life, Kurokawaseiryu Park retains its charm with untouched cliffs and refreshing spring waters that provide a cool respite during hot summer days.

In winter, the trees turn silvery white and migratory waxwings arrive, attracting many bird-loving photographers. In spring, the new buds are beautiful, but the caterpillars hanging from the trees and frequently getting on our clothes can be a bit of a nuisance. In early summer, in June, the chestnut trees can smell, but the fireflies flying around the large pond are truly moving. In summer, the mosquitoes and hornets can be a nuisance, so we have to walk a little faster, but it's cooler than the surrounding area, and my water-loving dog enjoys walking along the waterway, where we can also observe rhinoceros beetles, stick insects, giant water bugs, and Japanese bush warblers. In autumn, the autumn leaves are particularly beautiful, and the fluffy fallen leaves are a pleasant sensation. I think this is a great park where you can experience nature throughout the four seasons. However, if you have a dog that loves grass, like my own, they may be prone to ticks in warm seasons, so please make sure to check their thin skin, such as behind their ears and around their eyes, after walks. A few years ago, the spring water became cloudy due to construction work on the Proud Apartments. More recently, many trees have been cut down to prevent dieback and the falling of old trees. What used to be just around 10 crows now numbers in large flocks of over 100. I hope that the satoyama-like nature of Kurokawa Spring Water will continue for a long time without being destroyed. Strangely enough, while you don't feel the heat as much when you're in the stream, the heat doesn't change, so it's important to remember to stay hydrated. There are lots of shrimp (crawfish?), but it's quite difficult to catch crayfish or fish. There are also lots of mosquitoes in the overgrown areas where crayfish are likely to be found, so be prepared to get bitten. I watched tiny cherry blossom petals float along the river, and each petal had faced many challenges. It got caught up in clumps of garbage and almost got sucked down a drain (lol). But each petal overcame them all and finally made it to the pond at the edge of the Kurokawa River. At that moment, she said to me, "That's just like our lives." Life in Japan, a foreign country, was a bit tough for us, but I was moved to hear her say that. I hope I can overcome difficulties in my own life and reach my destination safely. Oh, that pond had a name, huh? lol It's called Hyotan Pond. It's making me sad. I can never return to Hino, Toyota, and the memories and time I spent with that person. No one in Hino remembers me anymore. It may be quite sad, but I'll bear it because I've kept it safe in my heart. Kagonoya, a Japanese restaurant, offers a delectable dining experience that may come at a slightly higher price point. You can choose domestic meat for the sukiyaki, and it was tasty. The cream soda was also tasty. There were a lot of ingredients in the cream soda and the ice cream spilled out, so I spilled quite a bit. It's just that Kisoji's customer service system is elegant. In the first place, the prices and customer service systems are different. Kisoji has expensive menu items, but elegant, individual customer service. There's no way that Kagonoya, which has a system where customers self-order using a menu app, can beat Kisoji. Kagonoya's prices are cheaper, so I think it's enough. Personally, I like Kagonoya better than Kisoji because it's easier on the wallet. Original post I guess it's in the high-end category. If you were to compare Japanese food chains by grade, it would be Kisoji 100 → Kagonoya 80 → Aiya 65 → Yumean 50, Tonden 55. The atmosphere (customer service) of the restaurant is not as good as Kisoji. However, the food is quite high-level, so you'll be satisfied.

(Translated by Google) This is a sushi restaurant near Hino Daisan Elementary School. The store is spacious and has many seats. I entered the store by myself around noon on a weekday. Since it was Christmas, there were many customers in the restaurant and the tables were all booked, but the counter seats were empty and we were able to sit down right away. Since I was seated at the counter, I was able to enjoy a glimpse of the showcase and the chef's cooking. I ordered the normal nigiri from the lunch menu, and the toppings were large and filling, so I was full. The fish was very fresh and had a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth flavour. I am very satisfied with the quality, which is beyond average. The miso soup was also very delicious, with plenty of fish (?) and a good dashi stock. Apparently you can have a second helping of miso soup, and it was so delicious that I would have liked to have another if I wasn't full. Both the chef and the staff at the restaurant provided polite and attentive service that made us feel comfortable and had a great time. There was also a parking lot. What surprised me was not only the food, but also the alcohol and wine! There was Tsuchida (4,000 yen/bottle) that was hard to find, so I was kind enough to ask for it. I don't know much about wine, but there were quite a few wines from Yamanashi. Is it related to Chuo Expressway? ? In one word, the food is delicious! If you drink it, you'll only order a roll, so I'd like you to refer to other reviews, but I'm surprised that they serve medina as sashimi. I had heard that winter porgies can be eaten as sashimi, but I never expected to be able to eat them at this restaurant. The squid is sticky and sweet, and the bonito is not overly seared, and you can tell from the first bite that it was prepared raw. Also, Karasumi. Isn't it homemade? I think so. It's moist, smooth, thick, and not too salty. I don't think it cost 2,000 yen either. I thought the sushi would be delicious, but I couldn't eat it after drinking, so I ended up eating it with tekka as usual. The balance of rice and vinegar was delicious. According to my friend, if you were at the counter, they would happily prepare the food for you if you asked. I'm really happy. I even saw the signboard on the train platform on my way home. It's about 5-10 minutes by taxi from the station, so please come by if you have a chance. Thank you for the great meal. Thank you to my friends.

(Translated by Google) It's been a while since I last visited Hino Sushi, a restaurant my family has frequented since I was a child! We went for lunch on a weekday, and the large parking lot was almost full. 🍣 Since the sushi is so delicious I always end up overeating, I ordered the lunch special bowl and a small portion of each nigiri. The salmon and fatty tuna here are super-sized and absolutely satisfying! The lunch chirashi (¥2,000) was a colorful selection, featuring ingredients you won't often find at other restaurants, like surf clam liver and octopus suckers. My favorite sushi of the day was the flounder fin. It has a more refined fat texture than flounder fin, which I definitely prefer. 🐟 And the sushi here is also huge! No matter when I go, this restaurant has a homey and wonderful atmosphere. Thank you for the meal! (Translated by Google) I visited for the first time in about 20 years. This is a long-established sushi restaurant that has been in this area for many years. Since I was a child, this has been my go-to place for special occasions. The sushi is famous for having toppings that are about three times the size of the rice, and the size is still the same today. Even the premium sushi is just over 4,000 yen, but the toppings are large and very satisfying. On the other hand, the a la carte dishes seem a little out of proportion to the price. However, this is a rare sushi restaurant in this area. It was delicious. Tempura donburi restaurant
At the popular tempura donburi restaurant Shihachi Tendon Ajisai, customers can enjoy a delectable shrimp tempura bowl topped with egg. Despite its price of 1,400 yen, the overall value may not be perceived as high. The establishment boasts a long-standing history and an aesthetically pleasing ambiance. While the staff is limited to two members and could be described as reserved and lacking energy, the food itself is undeniably delicious.
Excellent Tempura & Excellent service I will return many times. Great music also. I recommend this restaurant highly.

Good food at a cheap price. Not many seats, so it’s definitely the kind of place you eat and then leave right away. Their ticket machine only takes 1000 yen bills and coins, just FYI.

(Translated by Google) There isn't much sauce in the tempura bowl, so I think it would have been more delicious if there was a little more sauce. Also, it's quite crowded, and you can get your own water, so when you stop by for the first time, you may find the service to be a little unfriendly. I had been curious about it for a while, so I ate the high-priced Blissful Tendon, but I think it would have been closer to Bliss if it had been topped with a little more sauce, or if it had been placed on the table for you to put the sauce on yourself like Tenya-san did. Perhaps the low-priced menu was better value for money, and I might have been able to feel the charm of the restaurant. If I have a chance to eat there again, I will choose the popular menu that many people choose rather than the more expensive menu.

On the menu, we had conger eel tempura bowl and shrimp tempura bowl. The rice was firm, the sauce was not too sweet, the batter was crispy, the shrimp had plenty of moisture, the lotus root was soft and fluffy, and the conger eel was average. The price was reasonable and it was delicious. However, I don't know if it was the batter itself or the frying oil, but I felt that the batter had an unpleasant taste (egg?), so the oil felt persistent, and the progress of chopsticks was slightly slower in the second half. Tokyo Racecourse, also known as Fuchu Racecourse, is a must-visit for those seeking an exhilarating modern experience. It is Japan's largest horse racing venue and hosts prestigious races like the Japan Cup. Established in 1933, the racecourse underwent extensive renovations and reopened in 2007 with state-of-the-art facilities. The lively venue offers impressive grandstands, top-notch amenities, food stalls, and a playground for kids.
A great place to experience horse racing. You will see families with babies and children coming here as weekend excursion/outing. This place is family friendly, you will be surprised! Lotsnof food outlets here too. Spacious, great for picnic too!

Too bad it was only open on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays! Park
Keiō Mogusaen is a serene traditional Japanese garden located on a hill, boasting native plants, a pond, and an 18th-century ambiance. The garden is home to 500 plum trees that bloom in February and March, creating a beautiful sight. Visitors can explore a traditional thatched-roof house and monuments dedicated to Japanese literary figures like Matsuo Basho and Bokusui Wakayama. Bird watchers will appreciate the variety of wild birds found in the garden.
The place is worst to go. The beauty of the garden is changing during the whole year. In winter season (End of February) is a mood of cold, calm of ume flower.

Beautiful garden with a nice pond in the middle on a hill overlooking the valley. In a good day you can see Mount Fuji To get there leave from the south exit of the station , turn right to the Main Street and then just follow the signs. The garden was built in 1715 as a temple garden. In the Meiji period it is known for the poet Wakayama Bokusui who wrote some of his famous short poems after being inspired by the garden. There’s a memorial for him including some of his poems (beautiful ones actually). Admission is 300 JPY foe adult and 100 JPY for children.

There is also a large tent that is about half the size of a soccer field, so you can play even in the rain. It's going to get hot from now on, so I think it's good for shade and cooling off. We also have play equipment and health play equipment. There are also toilets and drinking fountains. It's a bit difficult to find as it's next to a very wide road reserved for garbage trucks, but there is an entrance near the back of the toilets, and a large plaza on the other side of the bridge. It's a lawn, so you can play to your heart's content. There is also a well. There is also a parking lot for those who come by car. However, there is a charge. It's 100 yen for 1 hour. (Translated by Google) Perhaps due to the coronavirus, on weekday mornings you'll see university-like people practicing in the netted sports field where ball games can be played, small children playing on the playground equipment, dogs walking, and walking paths. There are very few people there. Occasionally, groups of children from kindergartens or nursery schools come to visit. In the afternoon, it becomes lively with children of elementary school age. On Saturdays and Sundays, there are many people who park at nearby coin parking lots. There is no shade, so it gets quite hot in midsummer. Since there is a well water assembly device, children can enjoy playing in the water. If you go there after the weekend, it's usually vandalized. It's cold in winter because the wind blows a lot, probably because the road and river are close. The children who are playing probably don't mind it, but it's quite a pain to accompany them. The management takes care of it every weekday, and I think it's kept very clean. I'm thankful for this, but there are often people smoking in the back of the warehouse near the horizontal bar play equipment, so I don't like it if I'm traveling with young children.

I was surprised at how many staff members have good customer service when I went on weekends and holidays during peak hours. The young girls are energetic and reliable, but the older ladies seem to be all worn out. Weekdays are really bad lol. Even when I hear someone entering the store, the male staff members turn their backs to the entrance and don't even look at me. I waited for two minutes and no one came, so I sat down on my own, but they should have at least said "Please take an empty seat" lol. There was one hall staff member there, right...? Recently, I enjoyed a lovely dinner there with my husband, indulging in appetizers like two types of vegetables, crispy fried chicken, and various pasta options. Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Tama Zoological Park, nestled in the picturesque Tama Hills, is a sprawling zoo that offers free shuttles and showcases a diverse range of local and international animals in their natural habitats. Spanning 52 hectares, this park boasts three major ecological areas - the Asiatic Garden, the African Garden, and the Australian Garden - along with a vast Insectarium.
I was very doubtful of zoos coming to Japan, since I’ve heard their standards are low compared to AZA credited zoos in North America, but overall, the Tama Zoo is incredibly well maintained, and each animal got, in my opinion, a great size enclosure. The staff were kind and it was a very lively experience. I did go during Golden Week and on their free day due to their grand opening anniversary, so it was packed with families. It was really awesome though. 10/10 without the crowds, so as long as you go on a weekday not during golden week you’ll be fine, but I’d give it a 8.5 from the business.

Excellent zoo. Cheap entry. This zoo is huge. Be prepared for walking a ridiculous amount. If you want to see the whole zoo, bring food and drinks and realize it will take 4+ hours. You can get on the free bus and just ride it around but you can't really see the animals well that way. Removed a star due to the ridiculous lion bus where they designed it so you can't see the lions without paying extra to take a bus through the isolated enclosure.

We visited Tama Zoological Park in Tokyo, and it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable days of my trip! The zoo is huge, green, and peaceful — it doesn’t feel crowded or commercial like some other places. The layout is divided into Asian, African, and Australian zones, and each area is designed to feel natural for the animals. The Lion Bus Safari was definitely the highlight — getting to see lions up close through the bus windows was thrilling! I also loved the koalas, elephants, and snow leopards. The butterfly house inside the insectarium was magical — a must-see for both kids and adults. The entire park is clean, well-organized, and easy to explore. There are vending machines, benches, and shaded areas all around, so it’s comfortable to spend the whole day. The staff were kind and helpful, and English signs made everything easy to understand. If you want a relaxing escape from Tokyo’s busy streets, Tama Zoo is perfect. It’s educational, fun, and surrounded by nature. Highly recommended for families, couples, or anyone who loves animals!

It's a wonderful zoo but it is quite large and could take some time to see everything. You may want to map things out a bit. If you go through the week, you cannot book the Lion Bus tickets in advance, you need to go there right away to get them and they are timed. You must also get there 10 minutes before the time on the tickets. The staff are very nice and helpful but I didn't encounter anyone who spoke English. Through the week is also typically when a lot of schools visit so it may be a bit crowded with children.

Of course! Here’s a shorter, Google-review-friendly version 👇 ⸻ This zoo is huge and beautifully spacious, with some steep slopes. Many say strollers aren’t recommended, but I think bringing one is helpful if your child can’t walk long distances (you can rent one at the entrance). There are free shuttle buses, but distances are still quite far. Not many restaurants inside, so bringing your own food is a good idea — there are lots of nice picnic areas. A great place to spend the whole day! Parking fills up fast but smaller lots are available nearby. There’s even an indoor amusement park across the street for more fun after the zoo.
Cerise — Google review
You can visit this zoo mostly guilt-free. I usually avoid zoos in Japan because of the poor conditions for animals, but a friend convinced me to try the Tama zoo. I was surprised and relieved! Most animals have a large enclosure with space to roam and I only saw two with signs of stress (pacing, plucking). There are no animal shows, thank goodness. Most animals can hide and take a break from viewing if they want. A few enclosures are too small, but it seems like they are renovating. A huge new enclosure for the endangered Japanese Toki is set to be completed in 2026. In particular I was impressed by the huge walkthrough aviary, butterfly insectarium, and vast climbing structures for the orangutans. Because of the large enclosures, it is a big zoo. It can take a whole day to visit, and some animal viewings stop at 4PM, so I recommend coming early. For those that tire easily or with small kids, there is a free shuttle bus that goes up the biggest "hill". There are many picnic spots, but there are many vending machines and some snack counters too. I appreciate their efforts to switch to compostable utensils. In May 2025 it costs only 600円 to visit the zoo. If you plan to do the Lion Bus (500円) on a busy day, I recommend purchasing the tickets online (QR code) in advance, otherwise you have to wait in line and can't choose the boarding time (no online purchases the day of) or risk the tickets running out. If you can't purchase online, then I recommend coming at opening and immediately buying the Lion Bus tickets.

I’ve been living in Japan for 3 years and have already visited Tama Zoo at least three times. I’m probably one of the rare adults who comes here without kids. (゜_゜) But honestly, every time I visit, there’s only one stop for me: the koala house.🐨 Before I met Kirara✨️, I had no idea a koala could look so… human. Those unbelievable double eyelids are unlike anything I’ve ever seen! Until then, I didn’t even know koalas could have double eyelids. Sometimes I wonder if I’m here to watch animals… or if I’m basically attending my idol’s fan meeting.🥹 If you visit Tokyo and don’t know where to go, just come to Tama Zoo and meet Kirara, the koala with the most stunning eyes.✨️ You might end up spending half the day staring like a true fan.🫶 日本語: きららはコアラ界の北川景子だと思います。

The overall experience was good. The zoo is about 1.5 hour away from central Tokyo, but the travel was easy. We went on a Tuesday in November, so there were almost no people aside from some Japanese couples and a few elementary school classes. Some of the enclosures were old or being renovated, but fare more of them here new and very well kept. Most animals had a lot of room and were entertained, but some of them (like the snow leopard) had little to no entertainment or coverage (no trees or bushes). A lot if nice picnic areas to enjoy lunch, coffee or a treat. Saw no tourist at our visit. The staff at the shops spoke little to no English, but were very friendly. Definitely recommend it for tourists :)

Sculpture
The Statue of Toshizo Hijikata is located in Takahata Fudo, a significant temple associated with the Shinsengumi, an Edo period police force. The colossal Joroku Fudo Sanson sculpture at this temple is considered the largest of its kind in Japan and has been designated as an important cultural property. The statue depicts Toshizo Hijikata wearing traditional attire and is a must-visit for fans of the Shinsengumi.
The statue is inside the property of one of three well known Kanto Fudo temples in Tokyo. Hino city is Hijikata's birthplace and if you are a fan of him and or Shinsengumi, this is a place you might want to visit.
Ryo F — Google review
This is a must visit for any Shinsengumi fans in Tokyo. Hino is a bit far from the city center, but there are plenty of museums in the vicinity that make the journey worth it. Near this statue, you will find a few stalls with souvenirs and snacks. There is a small temple museum and various shrines, including a few fox shrines. I believe they hold services fairly regularly, so you might be able to hear some monks chanting as well. You can't get an original stamp for your goshuincho, but you can recieve a paper one. This is is the second time I've visited, and it was during a festival, so there was a bit more than usual. May is a great time to experience hustle and bustle! In general though, for casual viewers, don't expect too much. This is a place for fans to appreciate. Don't forget to buy some Shinsengumi themed sweets before you go! There are plently of small shops across the street to visit.

(Translated by Google) Hino City designated historic site Monument to Kondo Isami and Hijikata Toshizo Designated on October 1, 1961 This monument records the achievements of Kondo Isami and Hijikata Toshizo, who were born in the Tama region and played an active role as the head and vice-head of the Shinsengumi during the late Edo period. The text was written by Otsuki Iwakei, a former Confucian scholar from the Sendai domain, the calligraphy was by Matsumoto Jun, a former Shogunate official medical officer and medical school director, and the inscription was by Matsudaira Katamori, a former Kyoto protector. Matsumoto initially asked Tokugawa Yoshinobu to write the inscription, but Yoshinobu simply shed tears and did not reply, so it is known that he instead asked Matsudaira Katamori to do the work. In 1874, the Meiji government gave permission to enshrine the spirits of those who died fighting on the enemy side in the Boshin War, and as a result, monuments of remembrance, memorialization, and commemoration were erected in various places. In the same year, in the Tama region, the head priest of Kongo-ji Temple, Kenga Kazuo, conspired with relatives of Kondo and Hijikata, such as Sato Toshimasa, Kasuya Ryojun, Honda Reiwa, Hashimoto Masanao, Kondo Yugoro, and Kojima Tamemasa, as well as supporters of the Tennen Rishin-ryu school, to prepare for the erection of a monument to commemorate the sacrifice of the two heroes, Kondo and Hijikata. Permission to erect the monument was granted in the 15th year, but construction was delayed due to the rise of the Freedom and People's Rights Movement by wealthy farmers, and it was finally completed in July of the 21st year, more than ten years after the idea was conceived, in the grounds of Takahatayama Kongo-ji Temple. Takahata Fudoson is a serene Buddhist temple complex located in Tokyo's western suburbs. The temple grounds feature buildings from different eras and host cultural events and classes. On the 3rd Sunday of each month, a flea market with around 120 vendors takes place along the shrine road leading to the magnificent complex, offering a quaint, rustic ambiance reminiscent of an old-time market.
I was very impressed and so grateful to have the opportunity to visit here. It is much larger than I had imagined it to be. The temple buildings are well maintained and the connection to Hijikata Toshizo made it even more amazing😯

Beautiful hydrangea, and not too many people compared to some of the more central hydrangea festivals in Tokyo. Lots of space to walk around and spend a few hours exploring.

Beautiful temple at any season, but best to visit during autumn or hydrangea blooms. Wear good shoes as you'll be "hiking" most of the areas to see. There's also a quiet prayer hall under the pagoda.

I visited this temple for the Ajisai Matsuri. I was really impressed with the walking trails. There are 88 stone statues around the trails, it feel like a small hike with beautiful green and flowers around . You can even climb up to the observatory spot to have a city view. Will definitely come back in autumn for koyo.

We went to this place for the flea market, didn't know how big or beautiful the temple was going to be. We were so pleasantly impressed, the temple area is reall big and it is extremely beautiful. We are planning to go again to see more of the temple, 2 hrs of flea market and site seeing were not enough

Such an relaxing place. Every time when I visit Tokyo, I stop by here and take a walk around this area. It's near Takahata station and you can find lots of places to eat and rest as well. This temple associates Shinsengumi, it was a family temple of Toshizo Hijikata. He and his friends use to gather at the temple before they departing to Kyoto. Its history is quite old. It says it's originally built around 8th century, and reconstructed in 14th century. So some materials are possibly placed in 14th century.

Coffee shop
Restaurant
Cafe De Dango is a charming cafe situated in suburban Tokyo, founded by an owner with a passion for exploring unique coffee traditions from around the world. The menu features "coffee from all over the world," including the intriguing African "coffee ceremony" that involves adding salt and butter to your coffee.
This place really cares about their coffee, which was surprising for a cafe whose whole theme seems to be dango. We got the “miracle cafe au lait,” which uses specialty milk from Hokkaido, and it was delicious. We had the coffee jelly which was ok but didn’t pair well with coffee. Would have tried the dango but we were too full from lunch, hopefully I’ll have a chance to visit again.

A unique cafe located in the suburban Tokyo. The owner opened the cafe after spending a long journey through many countries, looking for unique "drinking coffee tradition". I recommend you to try the "coffee from all over the world" menu. The one from Africa was very unique, "coffee ceremony". You'll be served with a jar, a smaller cup, salt, and butter! Yes, add salt and butter to your coffee ! Other than coffee, you can also enjoy dango, a sweet made from rice-flour, usually served in a skewer. There are about 50's (I think) variant, from the most authentic ones to the modern ones :)

Gourmet coffee meets Japanese dango (rice balls). In addition to traditional flavors, they have dango decorated with untraditional toppings such as tiramisu and cream soda. Their cold press coffee is excellent. Stop by on the way to the temple.

I really used to like that place, but last time I went there they had a traffic jam background sound (not from the streets, it's an artificial from a sound box). We asked 3 times to lower the sound and they keep it. It doesn't make any sense, it's pretty annoying and anticlimactic. I don't think I would go back. :(

I heard at work that some of the flavors are too authentically French and not to my liking, but I think it's delicious. Chain flavors are too popular and boring. And at 550 yen, it's comparable to other stores, so it's actually a good deal for the quality. It was a bit disappointing that we couldn't eat in, since it would be a bit of a hassle to carry. I was torn between two options, and after I asked the staff for a cake, I decided, "Maybe I should have made the right choice," but when I tasted them, they were exactly what I wanted. 😳✨️ Both were delicious. For me, this is the place to go when I want cake. lol They also have croissants and other breads, which is a plus. They also have baked goods, so the selection is surprisingly diverse. (Translated by Google) This was my first time coming here after I started looking at a lot of things, but the first thing I noticed when I saw Gateau in the showcase was how cheap it was for such a well-regarded store. I felt that this price, including tax, was very well thought out. The staff in charge of sales responded in a gentle and natural manner without making me feel like I was being overly concerned. The wording of Gateau was easy to understand, so I decided on it without much hesitation. This time, I chose three items: Tarte Bagnille (550 yen), Tranche Noisette (500 yen), and Fujiu (720 yen). Tarte bagnille...A mousseline with a firm texture and a strong buttery flavor, with a strong vanilla flavor that spreads afterwards. The consistency of the tart dough at the bottom is not too hard, the flavor of the flour and butter is natural, and the entire gateau is pleasant to eat. Tranchenoisette... Even though it is a firm batakuri, it melts in the mouth smoothly and has a very sharp taste. The flavor of the noisette that goes with it is also very fragrant, and when combined with the batakuri, it becomes 1+1=3 instead of 1+1=2. If this is 500 yen, buy it! Fujiu...I had high expectations since the gateau was named after the restaurant, but I thought the gateau had a flavor that matched those expectations. Despite the moderate sweetness, it has a strong cacao bean flavor. Due to recent price hikes, they seem to have no choice but to use Fuji Oil chocolate, but that didn't make it seem like they were discounting it that much. It had the flavor of the gateau that gives the restaurant its name.

Roasted chestnut Mont Blanc and cream on top of a soufflé roll. I really liked this Mont Blanc. The Mont Blanc cream is quite rich and you can really feel the chestnut flavor. The point of this store is that even children and people who don't like alcohol can buy with confidence, as the alcohol-free information is clearly visible at a glance. There were quite a variety of baked goods that I was interested in, but I gave up because I was also planning on going to the next shop. If I come to this place again, I definitely want to visit this shop. (I also took a photo later♪ The chants of “Shin Sen Gumi”, “Izumi no Kami”, and “Enomoto Takeaki” are the best😃) The inside is small, but the outside is decorated with things like Inari Shrine, hand-planted bamboo, and a wooden sword used for Tennen Rishin-ryu training, so you can actually swing it (it's very heavy!!) A number of artifacts are on display inside the building, and items are also sold here. (Please take off your shoes and come up!) Once a certain number of people had gathered, Ms. Ai began her explanation, and everyone listened intently. Clafans are also being held to protect these many items! It is also a collaboration with the game Touken Ranbu, and there are stand panels of Kane in some places. Although it was only for a short time, I felt like I was able to receive a piece of Toshizo-san, who has transcended his time, and I headed home excited. (Translated by Google) Visit date: 2024/11/08 Arrived at "Hinojuku Honjin". An explanation board near the entrance gate. It is the former home of Hikogoro Sato, a supporter of the Shinsengumi, and also appears to be one of the largest post stations on the Koshu Highway. Let's go in anyway. Since I had brought a hiking map with me from the station, the admission fee was also waived as a bonus. lucky! At the same time, I was given a piece of paper titled ``Key Points for Visiting Hinojuku.'' Should I look at buildings according to this? At the very beginning, I read the column that says, ``Hino-juku is one of the most prestigious places on the Koshu Highway.'' Apparently, Hino-shuku Honjin has all the necessary facilities for Honjin and Wakihonjin (both meaning VIP hotels). First, the gate. I went through the gate first. Apparently it was even more beautiful before it was destroyed in a fire. Second, the ceremony stand. When you take off your shoes and enter the room, you can see the low wooden floor. The VIP entrance is the ceremony stand. Third, the size of the building. Although it is difficult to compare it with modern hotels, we have to admit that it is quite large considering that it has nearly 10 rooms and even has a garden. Other points of interest. Although it doesn't seem to be directly related to the style, the Chinese poems and ink paintings on the sliding doors are also beautiful. I got an explanation sheet for Chinese poetry. (I read it later. I thought it was a Chinese poem, but it seems to be about Japanese warlords and battles.) There are also bats and rabbits that appear in kugigakure (decoration to hide the nails used to fix beams), and although the pillars are less conspicuous, there are also quite a few animal decorations, such as carp carvings. To conclude the tour, he mentioned the connection between this building and the Shinsengumi. The head of the Honjin family, Hikogoro Sato, is the brother-in-law of Toshizo Hijikata, a master of the Tennen Rishin-ryu swordsmanship. According to Hikogoro's diary, members of the Shinsengumi visited this place about 150 years ago. Then he loses the battle. Were they preoccupied with the battle at the time? If that's the case, I might be able to say that I was observing the room better today than they were.

If you have time, a volunteer guide will give you a 20-minute historical explanation, and if you have time, they will also explain the room for about the same amount. This was very helpful. (Translated by Google) This is a Japanese family restaurant near Manganji Station on the Tama Monorail on the Hino side of Ishida Ohashi Bridge. This is a popular restaurant where the parking lot is full and there is a long queue on holidays. Personally, I'm disappointed that the actual quantity is extremely small compared to the price and menu photo, and I wonder why the tea in the tea dispenser is hot enough to burn you, but the food is lukewarm. This time, I received 3.5 balls of Yumero Udon, which is Skylark Group's large serving menu. The special chicken, pork, and seafood soup was punchy and delicious, but the cabbage and bean toppings were almost raw, and the udon noodles were disappointing because they were limp and could be torn into pieces when lifted. My stomach was full after eating all the soup, but my heart felt empty. Also, the staff at this restaurant are generally rude in serving the food, and don't care if the soup spills. I use the Skylark app's birth month coupon for 99 yen for brown sugar jelly and matcha mousse, so I use it once a year, but I always feel disappointed. > Fun meal, small❗ > Weekday lunchtime is a huge success with the parking lot full. The clerk at this time was friendly and courteous. It's been a long time since I visited Yumean. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say it's been about 5 years. Yumean is a family restaurant in the Skylark chain that focuses on Japanese cuisine. I chose curry udon from a variety of menus including soba, tempura bowl, and motsu nabe. Yumean's curry udon was delicious! The price is over 1,000 yen, so I thought it was expensive for the food alone, but considering the free large portion service, customer service, hygiene, free hot tea, and spacious sofa table seats, I thought it was reasonable, or even more! The tofu salad was also delicious! I love that it contains seaweed! It's been a while since I last visited Yumean, and it was really nice! This restaurant is a little different from other shabu-shabu specialty restaurants, and there are many customers around enjoying the regular Yume-an menu, so you can enjoy a slightly more relaxed atmosphere. The food is of consistent quality, as you would expect from Yume-an, and the side dishes, such as seiro soba and seiro donburi, are all-you-can-eat with the same flavor, which is a nice point. Meat and vegetables are ordered from a touch panel, but it seemed to take a little longer to be served than in a buffet format. However, there was a wide variety, so it was fun to choose. As for the meat, the pork was a little thin and unsatisfying. The chicken was of a good size, but the skin was a little rough, and some of the dishes had a high proportion of skin, which was disappointing. I think that if this were improved, the satisfaction would be higher. A unique feature is the system where desserts and some menu items can be enjoyed at half price or for an additional 100 yen. Rather than making everything all-you-can-eat and increasing the price, the fact that you can add more as needed was very convenient for families and groups of different ages. The time limit is 120 minutes, so you can relax and enjoy your meal. The staff are cheerful and friendly, and are polite when speaking to you. Yume An's all-you-can-eat buffet is recommended for those who want to enjoy shabu-shabu casually in a quiet atmosphere. It's especially great that it feels like a hidden gem, as there are only a limited number of restaurants that offer it. In the early morning, Matsuya's restaurant welcomes customers with its modern and trendy interior. However, there is some hesitation about whether it caters to a wide range of clientele, as opinions vary. During late-night visits, service can be below expectations, with staff seeming unapproachable and unfriendly when asked questions. (Translated by Google) Visited on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. The inside of the store is small, with 14 seats at the counter. The restrooms are on the second floor, so I thought there would be seating for customers, but it was only for office staff. This is a system that is common at Matsuya restaurants these days, where you purchase a meal ticket and are called by a number. I ordered the kimchi beef rice standard size 530 yen. The good thing about Matsuya is that it comes with miso soup. It's a slightly spicy beef bowl, and the rice is also covered in spicy sauce. It's usually delicious.

(Translated by Google) I came to Matsuya to have a breakfast set meal. This time, I added a mini beef plate to the egg-cooked rice that you can choose from at W, and decided to order a beef bowl? I thoroughly enjoyed the feeling. It's been a while since I came to Matsuya, and the free miso soup seems to have gotten better. Miso soup can be served for a fee, so I would like the soup stock to be more effective. When I went there for the first time in a while, the Hino store had installed free Wi-Fi. There are some people who think so, so I can't say that the customer base is good. (This time and late night) Customer service is slightly below average. When I asked a question, they said, ``Don't ask me questions!'' They weren't very friendly. The taste was like the beef's fat spread with water, and it wasn't the quality typical of Matsuya. Yamatoya Hino is a ramen restaurant that offers enticing features on the first day of each month. For an affordable price of 500 yen, customers can enjoy their normal ramen and also receive coupons. Additionally, rice is complimentary and guests have the option to enhance their ramen's flavor with doubanjiang and various seasonings available at every seat. Holy shit the floor is so slippery. I slipped after buying a ticket but luckily regained my balance. That became more memorable than the ramen. I had the Shio ramen that was ¥1090 and it was good. Rich and creamy, super filling and the portion was enough for me, but not a lot.

(Translated by Google) I had a half-day off due to a filling machine replacement, so I searched for a place that I'd recently visited and decided to check it out. I left work by car a little after 10:00 and arrived a little after 11:00. The coin parking lot beyond the restaurant seemed to be an affiliated lot, but unfortunately it was full (lol). I searched the area and found an available coin parking lot, parked in one, and visited! Even though it was after 11:00 on a weekday, the restaurant was almost full! I thought the system where everything is done at the ticket machine was great. And even if you think the amount is a little low, you can order individual toppings later, which is a great system! Choose the amount of ramen → number of meat → other toppings (paid) → free toppings → vegetables → oil → garlic, etc. I think you pay by tapping the touch screen in that order. I ordered two slices of meat → regular vegetables → extra garlic and oil, and tapped! A receipt comes out, which you hand to the staff. It's a beginner-friendly system because you don't have to chant any spells. I sat down at a barely empty seat and waited. It was placed on the counter after about 6-7 minutes, so I took it down. Looking at it, I realized that the regular amount of vegetables was not enough. I added garlic, but I thought it was not enough. Well, since it was my first visit, I decided to have it as is. The amount of vegetables is so small that I could turn the bowl over without adding any. I continued eating a little, but there was not enough garlic, so it lacked punch, so I added more! It's free. I wondered whether to add more vegetables, but I didn't want to water down the soup, so I continued eating as is. The flavor is a very well-balanced Jiro-style soup and is delicious. The noodles are also the chewy, extra-thick noodles typical of Jiro-style noodles, and are boiled just right! However, the meat was tough and not very fatty, which was a shame. Personally, I would have had no complaints if the meat was more tender and fall apart... Since they don't serve ramen in batches, I think this is a good Jiro-style ramen that you can eat quickly without having to wait. It was delicious.

(Translated by Google) It was just before 3 in the afternoon, and I was excited to find a Jiro-style ramen shop in a space that hadn't been used by a family restaurant (I've been there a few times in other cities). It had a scary image, but Tada wasn't intimidating, so I went right in. There were three of us, the leader and two part-timers. They accepted PayPay, so I added a slice of roast pork to my mini ramen. I also topped my quail with a boiled egg. I handed all the tickets I got from the ticket machine to the female part-timer and sat down. I noticed a sign on the partition that said you could get free toppings by registering as a LINE friend, so I quickly registered, showed it to the part-timer, and when she asked me which topping I wanted, I replied, "Nori, please!" and spent a few minutes in excitement. The bowl arrived, "Huh..." There was a single layer of nori seaweed, and two scraps of roast pork... The roast pork was disappointing. I was expecting it to be soft and kamaboko-style, so of all things, it was the size and silhouette of the two pieces on either end. Wow!! One thing you can't overlook is that single sheet of seaweed... It only made it seem even more cheap. I double-checked the toppings sign and my LINE friends page, and it definitely said five sheets of seaweed. No doubt about it! Gathering up my courage, I asked the female part-timer, "Excuse me, is it just one sheet of seaweed?" and she immediately replied, "Yes." I checked the sign and my LINE friends page again and said, "It says five sheets..." and she said, "Please wait a moment," went to the back, and after a while, brought five sheets in a bowl. No apologizing or anything. Time just passed by, like a routine. And their attitude was just like that. This is what they call a cold response! Perhaps they were tired after the peak hours, But as a former ramen shop owner, I wonder how it's doing! I finished the rest of my meal the usual way at Jiro. The first time is an important time to build up an image and lead to the next time. This time, it was disappointing. It can't be helped since they just opened, but I probably won't be going back for a while. I'll try again when they're a little more experienced.

Train station
Takahatafudō Station is a convenient stop for travelers, especially those using the limited express. It provides easy access to Tama Zoological Park and features a delicious Takahata soba eatery inside the ticket gate. Additionally, visitors can explore the famous Takahata Fudoson and its approach nearby. The station also serves as a connecting point to Tama Monorail, offering access to various suburban areas in Tama.
I just want to say a big thank you to the staff here. They held my baby’s bag, which contained our passports, which I lost it in one of their train cars. They were lifesavers.

Temple town serenity meets commuter practicality—Takahata Fudo Temple's sacred presence shapes neighborhood character even as train schedules govern daily rhythms. Stone steps climb toward spiritual heritage while platforms propel toward secular destinations. Elderly residents maintain traditional values here; temple festivals still gather genuine community rather than tourist cameras. This station knows how to honor both Buddha and punctuality. Tourist Tip: Express and local trains stop. Takahata Fudo Temple nearby offers authentic temple experience without tourist crowds. Transfer possible to Keio Dobutsuen Line for Tama Zoo. Good balance of spirituality and convenience.

This is the stop for Takahata-Fudoson, which is only 5 mins away from the station. It is also a connecting station to Tama Monorail which runs a north-south suburban route in Tama area. It isn't a large station relatively speaking but there are plenty of chain restaurants in the station building and a few locally owned good finds around it. The Takahata temple has a statue for Hijikata who was a skilled swordsman that resisted the Meiji Restoration.

The restaurant has been renovated and all seats are now non-smoking. By eliminating the smoking area, the seating area has become wider and more open. The number of seats remains unchanged at 15 two-person tables and 5 long tables. This makes it easier for even one person to use it. Gyudon restaurant
Matsuya, an excellent spot for a fast bite to eat, is known for its round-the-clock availability and reasonably priced menu. This gyudon establishment boasts delectable dishes without breaking the bank.
Great place for a quick meal! Always open, food is good and not expensive.

(Translated by Google) The store is clean, everything is self-service, and the butter chicken curry is delicious. It's self-service, but there are two ticket vending machines, and you can eat tonkatsu from 5am. The slope of the entrance is dangerous unless corrected. The new menu item, Tamagodon, really only has eggs, so at 380 yen, I can't say it's cheap. This was a bad menu.

(Translated by Google) The Truth About Chilled Curry No One Tells You My Curry Shokudo generally seems to have a small curry roux. The same was true for the chilled curry I had this time. Likes and ratings on posts encourage me to comment more in the future! Thanks in advance 🙇 However, I'd been imagining what chilled curry would be like all day, so I was really looking forward to it. Given the name, I was wondering whether the rice would be hot or cold! The correct answer is warm rice and cold curry. This was so delicious it could become a summer staple.

I was a little worried that the water was lukewarm. (Additional note 1) Ordered hamburger omelet curry. The hamburger was juicy and delicious. (Additional note 2) Ordered green curry. The rice seems to be a little small. The roux is mild and delicious. This time I went for the first time in a while, and before I knew it, I had to pay by myself, so I was a little confused. However, compared to premium beef rice, regular beef rice is a little lacking in taste... Still, I'm glad that miso soup comes with the default menu, and I think it's a good value for money that the lunch menu includes a set of beef rice, miso soup, raw vegetable salad, and raw egg for just one coin (500 yen). (Translated by Google) Like Matsuya, you can purchase meal tickets from the ticket vending machine at the entrance. Let's go back to basics and make the "loin cutlet curry" 550 yen! 550 yen is cheap! There are 5 levels of spiciness, ranging from mild to extremely spicy. The menu ranges from the basic to the more original. The toppings are also carefully selected. The inside of the store is brand new, clean and refreshing, but it does feel cheap in places. When you hand over your meal ticket, the number will be displayed on a monitor on the wall. I'll go get it when it's called. Spoons and seasonings are all in one place, so it's like a food court. The curry came out relatively quickly! \🍛Pon! / oh! Looks simple and delicious! I was surprised that this cost 550 yen! yeah? Wait! ? Could this be the same as Matsunoya's cutlet curry? I'll compare it to what I ate before. Ah, I wonder if it's a little different...the feel of the cutlet is different, and the color of the curry is also a little different. I wonder if it's the lighting. The size of the cutlet is completely different. Well, the plates are the same. It's Matsuya's curry, so I guess the basics are the same. I'll have it right away! Hmm! The base is Matsuya's curry, but it's deeper, spicy, and delicious! I chose the spiciness in the middle, but if I were to say it would be about 1 spiciness, it wasn't spicy at all. With rice. Hmm! Matsuya's curry, or rather, My Curry Shokudo's curry is delicious! The taste is also unique. I'm glad you can eat this easily! Add curry to the cutlet. Hmm, the batter looks nice and crispy! The meat is a little dry, but I think it's okay with a light taste. It's totally fine. When soaked in curry, it becomes moist and just right! This looks junky again! Matsuya curry is delicious. A level of deliciousness that Sukiya or Yoshinoya could not achieve. Is My Curry Shokudo's location close to the curry stand inside the station? Like C&C. Kokoichi is expensive and you will be disappointed. It feels a little lighter than that. There is no doubt that the frequency of use will increase because of the low hurdles! sketch.audio (Original)

Conveyor belt sushi restaurant
Hamazushi is a must-visit conveyor sushi restaurant that offers an exceptional dining experience, characterized by its cleanliness and vibrant atmosphere. The restaurant attracts a large crowd, which adds to the lively vibe. Diners can indulge in a wide variety of delicious sushi dishes served on small conveyor belts, all while enjoying the assurance of hygiene maintained by attentive staff.
Really great place and very tasty sushi... I had a great time with my friends here... We ate to our stomach full and the final bill for each was less than 1000 yen ... Dishes served over small conveyor belts... Definitely try the place if you love sushi...

Hamazushi is a popular conveyor sushi restaurant known for its cleanliness and the bustling atmosphere due to the large number of customers it attracts. The overall dining experience at this restaurant is quite enjoyable. Firstly, the cleanliness of the restaurant stands out. The staff maintains a clean and well-organized environment, ensuring that diners can enjoy their meal in a hygienic setting. You'll find the seating area and conveyor belt clean and tidy, giving a sense of comfort as you dine. Secondly, one of the highlights of Hamazushi is the freshness of their fish. The sushi prepared here boasts fresh flavors that are satisfying and delightful. The selection of fish is varied, providing plenty of options to cater to different preferences. It's evident that the restaurant takes pride in sourcing high-quality fish for their customers. Lastly, the sea urchin at Hamazushi is a must-try. Despite being our favorite, it's worth mentioning that the same restaurant in another branch may offer an even better sea urchin. However, even at this particular branch, the sea urchin is still exceptional and worth ordering. The taste is rich, smooth, and flavorsome, offering a unique and delicious experience. Overall, Hamazushi makes for an enjoyable dining experience. The clean environment, fresh fish, and delectable sea urchin make it a go-to option for sushi lovers. While the sea urchin might be even better at another branch, it's still one of the standout dishes at this location. Whether you visit alone or with friends, Hamazushi is a reliable choice for a satisfying conveyor sushi experience.
